Personal Description:
I am a qualified Art Tutor, teaching to all ages, with long experience in various subjects of Fine Arts, such as, Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, and Craft techniques. Being native Greek I can also offer Greek tutorials (modern Greek) although it's a secondary subject in my tutorial experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2-year experience (2000-2002) working as Drawing and Painting freelance tutor for students in higher education. During these 2 years I delivered art tutorials to students preparing for Art College examinations and working towards a completion of art portfolio. During 2004 I collaborated in a 6-month extra curriculum workshop for primary school children. It involved arts and crafts activities such us collage, mask making, group painting on given themes, painting techniques, understanding of colours, and painting through examples of 20th c painters. I was also accepted for participating at the "Cumbria Arts and Archives project 2007" for Cumbrian schools, the applications were sent to schools participating at the project and students themselves took part in the selection process.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every person has individual needs in learning a subject (especially Art subjects) and I try to give priority to this pedagogical stream of tutoring, in particular when it concerns younger ages. I believe tutoring should be contacted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and the whole experience should be interactive, educational and enriching for both the tutor and the student.

Personal Description:
I began the study of Latin and Ancient Greek (language and literature) when I was 13 years old in Italy. In Rome I took my degree in Classical Archaeology and I completed my education at the University of Messina with a PhD mainly focused on Roman history.
I plan to live permanently in the wonderful capital of Scotland and I hope to be useful to its people by my work in Classics.

Teaching Experience:

During the summer I taught Latin (at intermediate level) in the University of Edinburgh, where I had a beautiful and stimulating experience with both young and adult students. I shall give tutorials in Latin, Ancient History (Greek and Roman) and Classical Archaeology in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology of the University of Edinburgh during the academic year 2008/2009. I have an extensive experience of teaching in my country at virtually every level. I taught Latin and Ancient Greek (beginning, intermediate, advanced level) for many years in high schools (Classical Lyceum) at the beginning of my academic career in Italy. Subsequently, I taught Classics in several universities, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. My teaching is very flexible, especially in responding to the needs of both young students and adults. I can teach Italian, Latin and Ancient Greek (language and literature) at all levels.

Tutoring Approach:

It is not possible to use the same tutoring/teaching method with any student. I think it has to be differentiated specifically. The main target of this work is to help a child to develope his/her thinking, his/her critic approach to the life. Classics are very helpful in this aim.

Personal Description:
I have experience playing and composing music especially with my guitar and keyboard. I am primarily qualified as a music producer with many skills in mixing and mastering. I have been involved in many professional productions across the north e.g. in Dance City, and The Rheged Centre fashion show for Debenhams and Mercedes to name a few. I am an enthusiastic, creative and motivated person with a keen interest to teach. I am a highly effective linguist with great academic, technical, teaching and professional background.

I am a native speaker of Greek and English, bilingual in all modes. Educated in both Greece and England I have an advantage in understanding the culture and concept of each language, therefore making me able to specialize and understand the difficulties between an English student wanting to learn Greek or vice versa. I find teaching extremely rewarding particularly when contributing to the learners' development by passing on my passion for language and culture with an outstanding approach to lessons.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to international students across a range of ages and levels both in the UK and in Athens. In Athens I was employed as a private English tutor and trusted by many families to provide good results for their children as well as adult learners.
Qualifications

Tutoring Approach:

After been a student for many years, I have obtained a knowledge for efficient studying, aiding students whatever the level, to achieve their full potential in Greek, English, or Music Production.

My teaching experience ranges from children to adults with extremely positive results. Greek is a challenging language however with my passion for teaching it, achieving fluency is possible for anyone that truly wants to learn. I am very flexible and very patient with a high understanding of the students' needs.

My lessons are designed to cater for students' individual needs. The materials used focus on real communication for a real purpose. I encourage students to make mistakes but also teach them to learn from them. I have always believed in the communicative approach for teaching, which ensures that students seize the structural aspects of a language or subject. This method shows a particular advance for my language students in becoming fluent speakers.

I also incorporate the use of modern technology in my lessons (used by NASA). It is a vital part of our everyday lives and I feel it is essential to the learning process. Regular sessions in the language subjects each week, would ensure full potential and maximize student results, as they need to frequently exercise what they have learned. Hard work and repetition is essential, but my experience over the years has taught me to make it fun and rewarding.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name's Ed, I just graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Classics, and I am now on a two year Professional Acting Course at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Teaching Experience:

Since graduating from university I've been involved in all sorts of areas, tutoring Oxbridge applicants as well as students at both school and university level. The work I've done with my tutees has varied widely; I've assisted some specifically in translating school or university texts; I've introduced others, who wished to explore beyond their prescribed syllabus, to new areas of literature; and with others I've worked on developing ways in which one might go about analyzing literature or indeed approach translating a given text.

I've also taken up a part-time teaching post at Clifton College, which primarily involves coaching their prospective candidates for Oxford and Cambridge.

During my time at university, too, I participated in a number of theatre tours that actively involved taking workshops and running classes in the schools and the universities at which we performed, venues ranging from M.I.T. in Boston, to state universities in Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia, right through to schools in Switzerland, France and Belgium.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's impossible to pin down a sure-fire method of effective tutoring for any given person. People are different, and different methods work with different people.

That said, I am a firm believer that you cannot simply speak at someone. Learning has to be an active process, and I think there has to be involvement from both sides for things to sink in. In this light, I do try to make things enjoyable and also to limit shortcuts; I'm of the view that it's far better to invest the time in getting firmly to grips with a subject, be it an instance of grammar or literary concept. In the long run that is a shortcut in itself.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year-old Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. I have lived in Cambridge since August 2009. Most recently I have lived in Edinburgh for 3 years and in Oxford where I studied for 6 years. I enjoy meeting people, learning with them and opening up new horizons for my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

Cambridge University, Supvervisor, 2009-
Edinburgh University, Tutor and Lecturer, 2007-2009
Oxford University, Tutor in Latin, 2005-2006
The Tutors Group, Tutor in Theology, Classics, Ethics and English, 2005 to present
Private Tuition, Latin, 1998 to present

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching and learning have shaped my daily experience of life for as long as I can remember. I consistently find the process of receiving and passing on knowledge and understanding both enriching and fun. The process can be difficult at times. Perhaps a pupil will find a particular area of learning a tough battle. I find these occasions all the more significant because I know that the pupil will remember them as milestones from which she or he can draw strength and encouragement. The core of Classics, English and Religious Studies act as a gateway for entry into the most wonderful array of language, literature, culture and human experience. Attention to grammatical detail combined with a breadth and depth of understanding of the world within which the language and thought-forms operate will smooth the path of each student. To act as a gatekeeper and guide on the way is a pleasure which, though sometimes hard-going, is always worth attaining.

On a more personal level, I enjoy spending time with students of whatever age, getting to know how they learn best and how I can serve them in their education. I have taught ten year olds, teenagers and undergraduates and can confidently say that all students will have some similar challenges to face and strengths to deploy; but all students will also have their own particular obstacles and ways of overcoming them. Understanding these elements of a person's character and educational DNA, working with them and setting them meaningfully within the context of other curricular and extra-curricular activities is one of the most exciting and important ventures we can undertake.

Personal Description:
I have experience teaching various subject. I was born and lived in France with Greek parents, I have the ability and the experience teaching French and Greek. I have been living in the Uk for the last 7 years, where I did a degree in Art where I graduated 4 years ago. Since then I have been enjoying teaching, and creating.
I was lucky to learn two languages from an early age. I believe this made me realize the beauty of a language and how it reflects its culture. This is a reason why I enjoy so much teaching that knowledge of a language

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching French to children and adults.
I have taught French to children from 3 years old to 14 years old in nurseries and privately.
As for the adults, I have been teaching private tuitions from a very academic approach to a more creative one.

I also have experience as filmmaker facilitator and Tutor to children and adults, working as a freelance in schools and privately.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the actual experience of teaching any subject is a very important part to the learning progress.
Whether I teach Art, Film or French, I always create this positive environment, and I always
make sure the student stays active in the lesson which I believe is important. Also I intend to give
exercises for the next lesson as it allows the student to stay focus, again I do this for any subject I teach.
It keeps the student excited and willing to always learn more.

About the French lessons, for any student, before starting a lesson, I create a friendly relation with
them, which I believe is very important for successfull learning, specially as some
people find speaking another language intimidating.
I always plan a lesson depending on the individuals hobbies and interests in order to make the
lesson more pleasant, original and appealing to them.
Finally, I ask them why they want to learn French, whether they intend to go
to a French speaking country, if it is for business purposes or exams or just a love for that language?

I have a lot of experience working with children so when I teach them I always make the lesson creative and fun.

I let the learner use their full potential and learn how to use information rather than providing all the information to them, This technique gives the learners the skills of understanding how to get information, analyse it and also find the solution to a problem.

With my work experience I can also show the students what is needed to be successful in the real world. I can teach in different environments and have experienced students from varied background and cultures and always try to approach each individual according to their own learning capability. I can advice individuals who are looking to move into IT field by offering practical training that can help them in achieving their first job in the Information Technology.

Personal Description:
I am a young tutor who is very eager to help others get to grips with the principles of English/Latin/Ancient Greek grammar and syntax. I also teach philosophy (which I studied at Oxford) and have published material in this area.

I am a friendly person, and as a recent Oxford graduate I am familiar with serious academic work and discipline. I believe that I am very good at making complex subject matter comprehensible to other people. I am also passionate about the subjects I have studied and believe I can inspire this passion in others.

Teaching Experience:

I have a CELTA qualification in teaching English as a foreign language. I have taught to non-native speakers from many different backgrounds. I love being able to help others improve their grasp of English.

I have also tutored in Ancient Greek (one-to-one) for Westminster Tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is serious but patient; I understand the difficulty of the subjects I propose to teach. I also take seriously my responsibility to instruct and enlighten. But I believe in adapting to the needs of each student and that means developing personal relationships as well as academic ones. I find that learning takes place most effectively when teacher and student get on well together. And so I try to get to know the people I teach.

Personal Description:
I am a mature woman with lots of life experience and a grown up family. I love teaching one to one!
I would describe my temperament as patient and kind, but I am also quietly but seriously determined to do the very best I can for my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 20 years experience teaching English in a state secondary school, from working with pupils with special needs including dyslexia and learning difficulties, to 'A' level English Literature with very gifted students. I also taught E.F.L. in Greece for some years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and understanding approach, and am flexible to the needs of each individual student. I tend to spend quite some time planning and putting together lessons to give the maximum benefit in the time available, and am usually happy to monitor 'homework' via e-mail between contact time. I do expect reciprocal commitment, however.

Hi, my name is Thomas. I'm a recent Classics graduate of Cambridge, now living in Bristol and training as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

I've studied Latin since I was 10 and Greek since I was 12, so I have a very good handle on the linguistic structures and vocabulary of both languages, as well as being widely read in the literature. Any Classics student grappling with unseen translations, reading of set texts, or having difficulty with grammar and constructions would therefore be an ideal tutee for me.

As an actor I am extremely well versed in the plays of Shakespeare, and this along with my English A-level and a keen love of literature makes me think I could be useful to any English students struggling with their set-texts and literary criticism.

Similarly I have a strong handle on Maths of all standards up to A-level and am confident I can be helpful to students who struggle with their trigonometry, calculus, matrices, algebra and other of the mathematical disciplines.

Teaching Experience:

In my final year at university, I tutored an A-Level student in Latin, helping her particularly with unseen translations, but also reading and discussing with her the set-text (Aeneid II).

This past year I helped a Theology student who wished to learn Greek. She was interested in reading the New Testament in Greek so I taught her the alphabet and the first principles of the language and its linguistic structures.

Also, more informally, I have helped a couple of my friends who struggled at University, particularly those who were encountering Greek for the first time at age 18.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm very personable and patient, so the most important thing to me is that everyone feels comfortable. It's impossible to learn anything in an environment where you feel too afraid to speak, worried you might get something wrong or say something stupid (I've had those experiences). People often find they know more than they think they do if they're allowed to offer an opinion, so I do my best as a tutor to keep the atmosphere open and forgiving.

Personal Description:
I have travelled and lived in different countries and I am lucky to have friends from all over the world. I love learning new languages and teaching other people what I know. I have studied English, Philosophy and Film and have taken a variety of jobs including teacher, bar tender, ambulance driver and cabin crew! I am currently studying French, German and Spanish and have made Bristol my home.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English of all levels privately and in schools for over 12 years. I have a lot of experience teaching English to people who come from different backgrounds. Usually, most of my students plan to move to the UK in order to study or work and a lot of the times they have to take an exam (such as the IELTS, the TOEFL or Cambridge Certificate). I can also help people brush up on their old knowledge or teach them what they need to know to use English in a business environment. I have recently started teaching Greek (which is my native language), applying afresh all I have learnt about language teaching all these years I have been teaching English.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach each person in a different way and I always make sure they don't feel embarrassed even when asking the most silly question. I am flexible with my style and time and I always adjust lessons to meet the person's needs and moods. I have a lot of experience in identifying students' weak points and helping them turn them into strong ones, building their confidence. I tend to use real material like newspaper clippings or poems or material from their work and generally avoid coursebooks, but I am flexible. I have a deep understanding of the learning process, both from the teacher's and the learner's point of view and I truly enjoy teaching!
