Personal Description:
My name is Oliver and I am a 22-year-old student at the University of Warwick, where I study German & History joint honours. I have recently returned from my year abroad in Germany, where I studied not only German language and literature, but also history and French language at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I would describe myself as enthusiastic and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

Between January and June 2012 I volunteered through Warwick Volunteers at a school in Coventry, where I acted as a teaching assistant in a Year 8 French class. I furthermore tutored a then first-year student at the University of Warwick during this time period. She was interested in improving her German language from GCSE-level and so we met for an hour every week in the university library. During the lessons we not only focused on grammar, but also on texts which I provided to widen vocabulary and to understand sentence structure in a real context.

Tutoring Approach:

For me it is important that the tutoring can either be as relaxed or as focused as the student wants it to be. We all have our own individual ways of learning and retaining information, so it is key to understand best how the student learns when approaching a topic. It is also good when students think for themselves, rather than simply soaking up information, and so I tend to encourage this kind of self-sufficiency in learning. I encourage debate and get students to justifying their reasoning and thought, skills which are not only useful for the future but also are more engaging for students.

Personal Description:
I have recently moved to Eastbourne following six years in West Yorkshire where I worked as a a self-employed independent education consultant, and also as a School Improvement Partner and Link Officer for Calderdale MBC. I have over thirty years teaching experience in primary, junior and middle schools.I have always loved teaching children and feel that I can help them develop self-esteem and confidence.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide background experience in teaching and education, having taught in five different schools in five different English education authorities, before becoming a School Link Officer / School Improvement Partner. I have held posts in large and small schools, with management experience in each, and I have taught children in all age-groups of primary, junior and 8-12 middle schools. I have, at one time or another, held particular responsibility for Curriculum Development, Maths, English, Science, Technology, ICT, PE, Art, French and Special Needs. I was Deputy Headteacher at two widely differing schools before becoming Headteacher of a small primary school. I maintained a teaching commitment of two to three days per week throughout my time as Headteacher of the school.

Tutoring Approach:

I base my approach to tutoring on an understanding of the individual needs of each student. I firmly believe that all children are capable of success. It is the tutor's role to find the most effective way of teaching for each individual child and to have an understanding of each child's preferred learning style. I always begin with an initial diagnosis based on discussion with the parents and an analysis of the student's current ability. Further sessions will concentrate on developing the skills of the student in line with a planned programme of work and targets, which has been agreed with the parents and student. I have a relaxed and friendly style with students but also have high expectations of their progress.

Personal Description:
My name is Nina, I am 22 years old and currently living in Birmingham and working part time as a Dietetic Assistant at Wycombe Hospital.

I have just completed an MSc in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Public Health at the University of Bristol and graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a 2.1 in BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science. I have studied German up to A-level and completed a German course at B1 level at University as an addition to my course. I am half Swiss and have spoken Swiss-German from a young age.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching people and helping them achieve their goals. I have acted as a mentor for first and second year students during my final year at University to help students with any issues they had and to support them as required. This has included proof reading assignments and suggesting ways to improve pieces of work.

I have many coaching qualifications, including level ones in football, tennis, netball, hockey and tchoukball. Through these qualifications I have knowledge of a wide variety of sports and can apply nutrition, biomechanics, psychology and physiology to these sports. My strengths are in nutrition and psychology but have knowledge of biomechanics and physiology.

I have interest in sports performance although my last year was tailored more towards health, looking at improving people's well-being within the realms of sport science. My dissertation looked into the effects of socioeconomic status on obesity.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in the field of practical teaching, from people as young as 5 to 18 years. Every year during the summer I work with children, this year I worked at an international camp coaching a wide variety of sports while also teaching English.

Regularly I volunteer at a variety of sports, which have included Tennis, Goalball and Netball because I am dedicated to helping other people in any way I can. I am very good at time management and organisation, so am always good at reaching deadlines.

Tutoring Approach:

I am willing to travel within reason or tutor online, to ensure that the tutee is in their favourite and best environment to learn. I will do my best to make the tutoring enjoyable but also informative and increase understanding. I have plenty of experience of exams and assignments, including dissertations as I have been there before and so know the importance of proof reading work and applying knowledge to specific assignments.

I can support you by proof reading work, checking grammar, punctuation, spelling, paragraph structure etc. but also in exam preparation and answering any questions you may have. I will aim to assist you in any way I can.

Personal Description:
I am a second year BA German student at the University of Leeds. I have been studying German now for about 7 years, with an A at GCSE and a 7 in International Baccalaureate (equivalent to an A at A Level) I got a high 2:1 average in my first year of university. I have been to Germany 4 times and to Austria once, so I have knowledge not only of the language but of the culture and history, and even a couple of dialects. I am very interested in languages in general, and I have studied Spanish for 2 years and am now learning Italian. My particular interest is in grammar and structures of languages.

Teaching Experience:

I spent the summer in 2011 in Austria working as an Au-Pair for 6 year old twins, to whom I taught some English, and even a little Spanish. I spent a week in a monastery orphanage in China teaching children, ranging from 5 to 15, English and Sport, for which there was very positive feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very friendly and approachable, and my enthusiasm for the language is very contagious! I prefer to teach in interactive ways, I dislike just talking at people. Because learning a language is such a constant experience, I would encourage tutees to turn their every day activities into opportunities to practice, so keeping up with the language isn't stressful. I understand that foreign languages can be very daunting, but I believe that there is a way to make it easy for anyone.

Personal Description:
I live in Central Scotland with my husband and two daughters, ages 9 and 5.

I graduated from the University of Stirling with BA (Hons) in German and History. During my time at University I worked as an Au-Pair in Bavaria, Germany looking after two young children in their home. I also spent a semester at the Univerity of Cologne which was required for my degree. After graduating I worked for IBM Germany in Greenock and then IBM Austria, working closely with IBM business partners in these countries and using my German language skills on a daily basis. I have also had the opportunity to travel in Austria.

Since secondary school, the German language has fascinated me and I thoroughly enjoy speaking, reading and listening to it. I loved the time I spent in both Germany and Austria and am always keen to return. It is a wonderful experience to able to learn about another county's people, their culture, the history and geography etc.

I am keen to inspire others to share my passion which has derived from being able to learn and use another language.

I currently work as a childminder and am a consultant with The Pampered Chef. These career choices enable me to be at home for my family.

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience working with children. As well as having 2 children of my own and working as a childminder, I help out at the local Brownie unit and coach the primary school Netball team. I understand the importance of patience with children of all ages and I have good listening skills. I treat every child as an individual and use praise and encouragement at all times.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring will provide me with the opportunity to combine my love of German with my passion for teaching children (and adults if they are keen). I am happy to teach younger children and to help prepare older children for their standard grade and higher exams. I have a wide range of teaching resources at my disposal to be able to reinforce what is being taught at school. I will concentrate on all aspects of oral and written German paying particular attention to grammar, punctuation, pronunciation and spelling. I believe variety is important and will change topics and themes accordingly to engage the student and hold their interest and enthusiasm. Student feedback will be sought regularly and used to help me plan the best way to meet their needs during their time with me.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old mum and I have a Master's Degree in English Studies/ English Linguistics, History and Economic Sciences. I graduated in 2010 in Germany. Born in Poland and growing up in Germany I am bilingual in Polish and German and also fluent in English since I have lived in Northern Ireland since 2007. I am very interested in languages and linguistics and would like to use this knowledge to help others, especially children.

Teaching Experience:

I used to give private English lessons to a student aged 11-12 in Germany when I was a student myself. Within weeks his grades started to improve and thus after a few months he did not need any more tutoring.
Apart from this one I do not have any teaching experience, however, I was an assistant manager in a restaurant in my previous job through which I gained a lot of confidence being in a leading/ teaching position.

Tutoring Approach:

Because of my own interest in languages and linguistics I would like to work as a language teacher and fascinate and inspire others to learn different languages or simply help them to improve their language skills. My personal background as well as my degree provide an excellent basis for this.

Personal Description:
I am currently a primary school teacher in a london school. I have a passion for teaching children and have been graded outstanding on my observations. I have a calm and patient persona and pride myself on being friendly, happy and outgoing.

Teaching Experience:

4 years BA QTS teacher training in liverpool
1 year teaching in a london primary school currently entering my second year. I have had experience teaching many stages of the primary curriculum from nursery right up to year 4.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow a concrete, pictorial, abstract approach to teaching. It is important to lay foundations and have a approach which the child is confident with before tackling different complicated questions with less support. I aim to do this by trying out as many different approaches as possible with them first and gently guiding them through the techniques needed to solve problems.

I am an energetic, bubbly and friendly person who is passionate about languages. In my spare time I enjoy going to the theatre and visiting exhibitions. I also swim regularly and play badminton. Having spent most of my life living and studying abroad I love to travel and am fascinated by different languages and cultures.

I am a very family orientated person and always make time for my little niece and regularly babysit for friends and neighbours.

Teaching Experience:

While doing my A-Levels in the UK I assisted the German teacher with the GCSE classes at my school and also gave private tuition to some of the students.

I have spent 6 months in Honduras teaching English as a Foreign Language to children from the ages of 5-15 and worked as an English teacher in the public and private sector in France teaching pupils aged 10 to adult.

Recently I have helped GCSE students with the preparation for their oral exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a fun approach to teaching and feel that variety is important. When learning a language all aspects need to be worked on i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking through different exercises. I am friendly and always like to have a thorough talk with a pupil before starting any lessons to understand what their weaknesses and strengths are and what they may/ may not enjoy.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a first class honors degree in composition and attained my MA in musicology with Distinction from the University of Bristol.

My first instrument is piano and I am currently working towards a ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance. I also sing, play acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar and am currently learning the viola da gamba and drum kit.

I'm a native bilingual German and English speaker and am happy to teach in either language. I also offer separate German lessons.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes music workshop leadership at primary school as well as one-to-one tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of music performance (i.e. piano and singing) I like to take a holistic approach that includes relaxation techniques, breathing and posture, playing technique, theory and aural skills that will aid improvisation, as well as classical training.

For music theory and history it depends very much what your background is - for GCSE and A-Level students the lessons will be built around the curriculum of the relevant examining body. For students who are preparing for auditions or interviews at conservatoires I will be working towards expected grades. With students who want to gain a broader general knowledge of music theory and history I will be looking at a range of issues including aesthetics and ethnomusicology.

As far as German is concerned, again it depends on your level of German. There will be significant focus on conversation and gaining a feeling for the language, as well as essential grammar.
