Personal Description:
My name is Oliver and I am a 22-year-old student at the University of Warwick, where I study German & History joint honours. I have recently returned from my year abroad in Germany, where I studied not only German language and literature, but also history and French language at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I would describe myself as enthusiastic and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

Between January and June 2012 I volunteered through Warwick Volunteers at a school in Coventry, where I acted as a teaching assistant in a Year 8 French class. I furthermore tutored a then first-year student at the University of Warwick during this time period. She was interested in improving her German language from GCSE-level and so we met for an hour every week in the university library. During the lessons we not only focused on grammar, but also on texts which I provided to widen vocabulary and to understand sentence structure in a real context.

Tutoring Approach:

For me it is important that the tutoring can either be as relaxed or as focused as the student wants it to be. We all have our own individual ways of learning and retaining information, so it is key to understand best how the student learns when approaching a topic. It is also good when students think for themselves, rather than simply soaking up information, and so I tend to encourage this kind of self-sufficiency in learning. I encourage debate and get students to justifying their reasoning and thought, skills which are not only useful for the future but also are more engaging for students.

Personal Description:
Recently returned to the UK to live near my family after teaching abroad for many years. I have 2 teenagers who no longer need my constant attention. I enjoy speaking other languages and love teaching, especially one to one teaching, where I can focus all my attention on the individual.

Teaching Experience:

1976-1987 EFL teaching in the UK and abroad. 6th form, secondary and adult. Also some ESL and home teaching.

1988- 2008. Primary teaching 3-12 year olds. I am trained in Early Years teaching. For 9 years I was the English Language Support coordinator in a large international school. My responsibilities included assessing children's needs, planning and teaching English as an additional language throughout the Infant and Junior school, improving reading skills and helping train other staff in the above. I have regularly tutored individuals and small groups of children after school.
I have recently completed a course in "Big Writing" with Ros Wilson of Andrell Education, focusing on improving writing skills from KS1 to KS3

2009- present. Nursery teacher and part time Modern languages/ Supply teacher in KS2

Tutoring Approach:

Each person's needs are different and my first job is to develop a trusting relationship so that I can quickly assess the priorities. Building confidence in prior knowledge comes next. It's important to pace the lesson so that there is just enough pressure but no stress. I like to work on all 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) whatever the goal of the class, and to that end use a variety of resources; books, cards, games, music, computer. I am a very good listener and have unlimited patience. I constantly make students aware of the progress they are making which builds confidence and speeds up learning. I set very high but reachable standards.

Personal Description:
Hello.
My name is Leonor. I am from Spain and 38 years old.

I am a teacher of Spanish and teach standard, Castilian Spanish, the official language of modern Spain. I love my profession and find teaching more a pleasure than a job. I have discovered that teaching is a two way experience where the teacher often learns as much from the students as the students learn from the teacher. For me, teaching languages is a very rewarding experience. I work with a couple of colleagues online, so we can offer more languages tuition, such as English (British English), French, German, Portuguese and Entrance Exams. All of us are native, qualified and experienced.

I am especially passionate about my native language, Spanish. I love not only the expressive beauty of the written Spanish, but the enchanting, musical sound and rhythm of spoken Spanish. The magic of the language of Cervantes is one of the reasons I have dedicated my life to the study of languages, especially Spanish.

Besides a passion for languages and linguistics, I also enjoy traveling and tracing the roots of human history and civilization. I am especially fascinated by ancient history.

Teaching Experience:

1. Bachelor Degree in Teaching English. University of Cadiz, in Spain.

2. Master Degree in Spanish Expertise. University of Leon (Castilla Leon), in Spain.

Several courses about teaching languages methods.

I am a member of ELE Congress (Spanish as a Foreign Language).

Several years of experience as a teacher of modern languages (Spanish, English and Italian) from children to adults, and all cases with really good results (available to show in case of need).

Two years of experience by teaching languages via Internet.

Tutoring Approach:

Based on the Direct Method, I use a technique of teaching a foreign languages without reference to the students native language. This method of total immersion has been proven to be the most effective means of rapidly developing real language skills. It is recognized as one of the best methods for language instruction and currently used around the world. With this method, students quickly develop the ability to think in their new language. This approach is both easy and satisfying. Student progress is quite rapid. Students progress at their own pace in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. With my method, students will begin speaking their new foreign language from the very first lesson (guaranteed), even if they have never spoken a word of their new language before.

Tired with boring memorization? Do you find formal grammars tiresome and less than effective? COME AND TRY MY METHOD, THE DIRECT METHOD!

Teaching Experience:

I have a wealth of experience of teaching Modern Langauges over the past 30 years to students of all ages and abilities in a variety of educational establishments and more recently have tutored privately on a one to one basis.
My clients include those wishing to learn for fun/holidays, those studying for examinations ( GCSE, A/S level, A level, IB, and undergraduate and postgraduate students),people wishing to be able to use a foreign language for business purposes and those who wish to relocate abroad.
I have been a Head of Modern Langauges department and examiner for GCSE and A level and so am fully up to date with the current requirements of all the exam. boards and can help you with the best way to get the maximum result from your knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that anyone can learn a language given the right teacher.
I tailor the sessions to suit your individual requirements whether you want to learn for business, pleasure, travel, examinations... or just for fun!
A FREE no- obligation introductory session allows us to look together at your particular requirements and to plan your success in language learning. This allows you to discuss what your exact needs are and lets me show you how I can go about helping you to achieve your goals.
I also strongly recommend that you contact a couple of my former and current students( all are happy for me to let you have their contact details) and have an informal chat with them before coming to a final decision. It's quite easy to match you up with someone who has either had or is currently having from me the kind of tuition you are looking for.You can then ask them how they got on or are getting on.
I do hope you will get in touch and look forward to being able to make a start with helping you.

Personal Description:
I'm 19 and in my first year of undergraduate study at Edinburgh university. I take English lit currently but i also have A levels in both German and Maths. I enjoy riding bikes, being with friends, reading (obviously) and other normal things like listening to music etc. I am also a trained barber so if u need a haircut with your tuition I'm your guy.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring my younger brother and cousins for years for various exams, however, i haven't taken money for any of this. Therefore, i do have references but from relatives only. Is this acceptable?

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find out the prior knowledge and understanding, then establish the most successful learning styles of the students. I use appropriate visual, spoken or even practical resources to cater for different students.
We then build from the basics and underlying principals, using questioning and written exercises to ensure that understanding is secure. I try to start by recapping the previous session and introduce progressively more challenging material as the students develop their confidence, which will help them to be able to apply the knowledge in unfamiliar contexts.

Personal Description:
I'm an Italian girl, age 28. Thanks to my international experiences I have a friendly and open attitude towards people
I love languages and I perfectly know the difficulties you can face approaching a new language.

I speak Italian , English, German and understand very well Portuguese, Spanish and French.
I am passionate about people and their own stories, cultures, experiences that's way i think that the best way to relate to people is speaking their own language!

Teaching Experience:

I worked as Italian teaching assistant in a secondary high school in Germany. That was my first experience of teaching with a class. I enjoyed seeing my pupils interested and excited in my language and person! I liked and learned finding new ways to interest pupils and further their attention span.

I also teached Italian in a evening private school. My students were adults, 20- 60 years old.
They were very self motivated and passionate about me and my culture. I got rewarding and satysfying results from them.

Whilst at school I taught English to a 15-year-old and helped an 11-year-old with her homework.

Tutoring Approach:

i think the biggest barrier while learning a new language is the "shame of speaking"
During my tutoring I will focus on conversation(+ pronunciation) and grammar.

Depending on the level and needs of each student, I will create ad hoc individual programms in order to fight all their weaknesses.

Personal Description:
I am an A* achiever, who studied at the King's School and at Hills Road Sixth Form, Cambridge. I have a passion for Mathematics and a lot of experience with Sciences also.
I love to teach Maths and Sciences in my free time and I spend a lot of time preparing lessons and materials to help the learner. I have a vast bank of resources and aids for all age groups which I have made and collected through my experience.
I went to King's School, Ely and I went to Hills Road Sixth Form College, where I studied Maths, French and German with Grades of A*AA.

I have a great interest in Maths and I can teach it to a high standard. I have many skills and techniques in maths which make learning it interesting, easy and most importantly, fun!

I have also been a member of the Army Cadet Force and I have taught many lessons to both younger and older cadets. I can be a great leader and role model to every student.

I am fluent in English and German and can teach in both of these languages if necessary.

I am well prepared and I have all the equipment necessary to teach at my home address.

Teaching Experience:

I worked at Cottenham Village College in Cambridge as a Maths Intervention Tutor, where I taught over 30 students in small groups to help improve their levels.
I have privately taught Maths to over 20 GCSE students, 2 A-Level students 1 QTS student and 1 student the American GRE Test, all of which have exceeded their expectations and are 100% happy with the quality and price of the service I provided.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach people how I have been taught, and in a nice, friendly manner. I have been inspired by many of my teachers throughout my life and I feel that if you like a teacher, then you will like the subject. I am a very likeable person and I teach therefore in a friendly way and I make sure the learner fully understands how we arrive to the answer.

I have studied how people learn and to ensure the learner understands fully, I explain things in more than one way to suit the learning style because each person is individual and learns differently.
I show the learner a variety of different methods to obtain the correct answer and I have many great ways to help them remember things like formulae. I strive to make each lesson memorable to reinforce the knowledge.
I also provide a free workbook that we will write formalised notes in after each topic has been gone over to make sure the knowledge is being comprehended in all angles of learning.

On our first lesson we will look at a syllabus check-list and use a Traffic-Light System to find which areas need improving or working on.
Together, we will do many examples of each question, using different methods to make sure of full understanding.
I create my own lessons and materials and configure them to how the learner would best understand, using Anagrams, Mnemonics, Rhymes and Memorable Ideas and more, as well as the use of PowerPoints and Games.
One of the most important things we would do together nearer exam times would be to study the exam Past Papers, exam skills and exam techniques. Doing past papers is really vital to get used to the exam layout and how to achieve the maximum marks for each question.

I can teach all topics in Primary and Secondary Maths.
I can teach ALL units and ALL syllabuses in Maths GCSE. (Edexcel, AQA and OCR (and MEI))
I can teach Core 1, Core 2, Core 3, Core 4, Statistics 1 and Decision 1 in Maths A Level. (AQA, Edexcel, OCR)
I can teach all topics and areas of all 3 sciences and combined science.

Why choose me to tutor?
- I have taught over 50 students privately, and in a school.
- I have 100% great 5* feedback and reviews from all of my students.
- The price per hour reflects the QUALITY of my teaching and the results that my previous tutees have gained.
- It is an investment in YOUR (child's) education.
- I specialise in teaching Maths and Sciences.
- I put the time and effort into the lesson preparation and planning.
- I went to some of the best schools in the UK.
- I make learning FUN! Thus giving the learner the best CONFIDENCE in their studies.

I charge the stated amount per hour because I have a lot of experience and knowledge in the subjects, as well as a huge range of my own resources.
I have a 100% record of 5 Star Feedback, so it's QUALITY tutoring that you are paying for.

DISCOUNT available for teaching more than one student at one time (if of similar level/year):
2 Students = 1.5 x hourly rate (total) instead of 2x
3 Students = 2 x hourly rate (total) instead of 3x

AVAILABILITY:
My allocated slots for tutoring are 1.5 hours and I recommend this because from experience one hour doesn't seem enough to cover a whole topic in one lesson and more can be learnt cognitively.
2 hour slots may also be available on request. These would typically be evening classes from 630-830 or 7-9.
These are the current slots available:
Monday 4-530
Tuesday 4-530
Wednesday 4-530
Thursday 4-530 and 630-8
Friday 4-530 and 630-8
Saturday 4-530 and 630-8
Sunday Full
I prefer to have regular weekly sessions booked.
I only teach from my home address. However, with travelling fees I may consider travelling to the tutee.

Joe

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher all my professional life, although for ten years I worked in the theatre as an actor, fight director and singer. I love teaching and I love music. Most importantly, perhaps, I have never stopped learning!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English, French and German for 25 years. I studied English at Oxford; worked in Germany, studied in Spain and have my main home in France. My first GCSE Spanish class all achieved A* and A grades. I recently trained in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, so I feel up to date with current teaching methodology. Nevertheless, I adapt my teaching style and methods to benefit my tutees. I teach adult evening classes and give private tuition in French, Spanish, German and English Literacy.

Tutoring Approach:

I will come to your home and talk to you about what your learning requirements are and will tutor in order for you to maximise your potential in line with your requirements. All tutees have different learning styles and preferences, too, so I will pick up on yours and shape our lessons accordingly. We will work proactively, and there will be specific goals and targets for each lesson so that you will be able to chart your progress. My colleagues think I have a great sense of humour, and I have sometimes found it to be helpful in a teaching situation. I am, however, totally professional in the conduct of my lessons and tutorials.

Personal Description:
Hi,

I am Katia, 25 years old, and I'm currently studying psychology at the postgraduate level (1st year PhD) at the University of Sheffield.

I am a native German speaker and experienced private tutor. I love to share my passion for learning with others.

I hold degrees from the University of Cambridge (MPhil) and Jacobs University Bremen, Germany (BA).

In my leisure time, I enjoy playing sports (volleyball, tennis), music, reading, and going out with friends.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored more than 15 pupils for more than 10 years now, mostly in language-related subjects such as English, Latin, and German.

Due to my extensive range of tutoring experience I am able to tailor my lessons to every type of need and skill level.

Moreover, I have worked twice as a teaching assistant supporting professors during my undergraduate studies at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany, which I relished very much.

Tutoring Approach:

I value an open and warm relationship between myself and my students. Ideally, my students never hesitate to ask questions or discuss what is on their minds.

I endorse a holistic approach to tutoring in the sense that I aim to teach not only certain contents, but also different learning strategies and transferable skills (for example, presentation skills, critical thinking skills).

Most importantly, it is crucial for me to motivate and inspire my students, so they can develop an appreciation of learning and education more generally.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher, having a degree in French Studies from the University of Nottingham, plus additional qualifications in Business German and competence in Spanish. I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a PGCE teaching qualification in Modern Foreign Languages in 2012 and have been working as a teacher since then in a comprehensive secondary school in Nottinghamshire. I am a very keen linguist/language learner and I enjoy travelling widely in Europe and Worldwide. Before re-training as a Teacher, I worked for 10 years as a Personal Assistant and Administrator in a number of large international corporations.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching across all ages and key stages. I qualified as a teacher of Secondary Modern Foreign Languages with the University of Nottingham in 2012 and have been working full-time as a teacher of French ever since then. I have taught pupils aged from 11-18 years old in a fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary environment. During my PGCE studies, I taught in 2 different secondary schools - both fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary schools, but of different sizes, one with 2600 pupils, the other with just 600. I also have experience supporting in a primary school over 2 different placements and delivering French lessons there. During the summer between qualifying as a teacher and starting to work in a school in September, I worked in a summer school for 5 weeks, teaching English to French and Spanish teenagers and accompanying them on excursions and trips; I gained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification in 2009. Before training to be a teacher, I gained experience teaching adults working as a part-time volunteer teacher of Basic Skills and ESOL in the evenings at New College Nottingham and South Nottinghamshire College.

Tutoring Approach:

I am looking forward to tutoring pupils of all ages, from primary to adult learners of languages. I am able to adapt my approach and my tutoring to the needs and interests of the pupils, from preparation for GCSE and A-level, to business needs to holiday languages. I have a genuine passion for languages which I look forward to sharing.

Personal Description:
I am currently working for a charity in an administrative role but I have done tutoring before in French and German as well as English and I really enjoyed this. I live with my partner who is native German which enables me to keep up to a high level of German and I read French books and listen to French radio on a weekly basis.

During my time as an Erasmus student in France, as part of my BA degree, I gained experience as an English teacher for French students at the University of Stendhal in Grenoble where I resided for nine months. I additionally gained some training in teaching methods during my two months at the International Summer School in Bremen which was funded by the University of Warwick.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience to date includes the weekly tuition which I was involved in for students aged between 18-22 at the University of Stendhal. My lessons, often delivered jointly with another English native from the my home university, incorporated important grammar, vocabulary and comprehension exercises. I particularly enjoyed the practical side of teaching when creating role plays and debates for students to get involved in.

Furthermore, I have had some online experience of German teaching, via Skype, to a contact that I made while working for an environmental charity in London. This was on a monthly basis over the course of a year and was mainly focused on improving her German grammar and pronunciation. She noticed a significant improvement with her fluency and confidence in using the German language.

During my time at the University of Warwick, I participated in a scheme linked to the French Department which enabled myself and fellow French students to teach primary level French to school children in Kenilworth on a weekly basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer a practical approach to teaching which translates the theoretical knowledge in to practical daily life. I really enjoy teaching the rudimentary elements such as essential vocabulary, syntax and grammatical structure and then promptly encouraging pupils to feel comfortable with creating their own sentences and being imaginative with language.

This does not mean that practical activities should supersede the teaching of theoretical knowledge, but it should nevertheless be a focal point of tuition from the start.

Different ways of making language learning fun and practical is to encourage students to listen to the radio, films and television programmes. Moreover, in order to improve listening and speaking skills, debates and role plays are particularly useful. Regarding writing and reading skills, students should equally be encouraged to read material which is of most interest to them as well as set texts which are vital for improving their fluency.

I am an energetic, bubbly and friendly person who is passionate about languages. In my spare time I enjoy going to the theatre and visiting exhibitions. I also swim regularly and play badminton. Having spent most of my life living and studying abroad I love to travel and am fascinated by different languages and cultures.

I am a very family orientated person and always make time for my little niece and regularly babysit for friends and neighbours.

Teaching Experience:

While doing my A-Levels in the UK I assisted the German teacher with the GCSE classes at my school and also gave private tuition to some of the students.

I have spent 6 months in Honduras teaching English as a Foreign Language to children from the ages of 5-15 and worked as an English teacher in the public and private sector in France teaching pupils aged 10 to adult.

Recently I have helped GCSE students with the preparation for their oral exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a fun approach to teaching and feel that variety is important. When learning a language all aspects need to be worked on i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking through different exercises. I am friendly and always like to have a thorough talk with a pupil before starting any lessons to understand what their weaknesses and strengths are and what they may/ may not enjoy.
