Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience teaching younger children at after-school and holiday clubs, youth groups, school cricket coaching, tutoring and mentoring of underprivileged children, teaching of First Aid at schools as a Red Cross volunteer and being involved in the Alex Curtis Memorial Trust to educate children in schools by giving presentations on the management of asthma and other allergic conditions. As a result, I have had several comprehensive CRB checks and have been tutoring for a long period of time. Tutoring for several years, I have fully grasped all the tips and tricks surrounding the key to great grades, and have helped many students achieve top marks.

I also have a younger sister in primary school whose education I am actively involved in.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is paramount for a student, not just to absorb information and facts, but to be able to put these concepts into practice through their full understanding. As a medical student, I know that rote learning is not the key to success - it is the ability to use your knowledge to answer diverse and probing questions that may initially seem outside your comfort zone.

I, therefore, construct a simple but effective study programme, incorporating the student's aims, in order to develop their strengths and remove any weaknesses. Due to my impeccable organisation, a structured plan is produced to maximise the student's chances of success and help them to achieve the grades they deserve.

Exam technique is also an extremely important factor for students to understand and, as a result, incorporated within all lessons are methods to succeed in this vital area - a concept I have fully grasped, as my grades suggest.
Please do not hesitate to contact me and we can arrange an introductory lesson free of charge.

Many Thanks,
Azeem

Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge with a geography degree (2.1) in 2010. Since then I have worked as a Parliamentary Intern for the Campaign to Protect Rural England's national office, worked freelance for an Environmental Consultant, and home-schooled an 11 year old. I have completed the law conversion course (GDL) in London and am now doing the Legal Practitioner's Course (LPC) ahead of working for a Parliamentary and public sector focused solicitor's firm from August 2013.

Outside of my work and studies I am a keen sports player and love to travel. I play squash and tennis, and used to play lacrosse for Cambridge. I ski sporadically, and enjoy walking in the countryside (followed by pub lunches). I travelled to Hyderabad, India to undertake the research for my undergraduate dissertation (on return migration), spent 6 months in Central America teaching English and travelling before going to university, and organised a trip across South East Asia in 2008.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching English to Mexican school children for 5 months in 2007 (ages 3-18)

Geography Ambassador for the Royal Geographical Society - workshops and talks with students re continuing geography to A Level and/or University

Informal tutoring/advice for Oxbridge applications

Tutored a politics student ahead of her AS exams in 2011. She was predicted a D, and ended up with an A in one paper and B in the other, resulting in a B overall. (May - June '11)

Home-schooled an 11-year old every morning for a term. We focused on Maths and English, but other subjects were also explored at times (e.g. history, geography, science and even politics as her interests dictated) (May - July '11). I have continued to work with the family (in the UK and the US), helping the three children after school with things such as the school run, homework supervision, and games.

Tutored a different politics student for her AS retake (AQA Governing Modern Britain) in January 2012. She went from a D to a B (Nov '11- Jan '12)

Tutored various students in Geography and Politics AS for the January modules and retakes (Nov 2012 - Jan 2013). One got 100/100!

Ran mock interviews and general geography sessions for a student with a Cambridge geography interview (Dec 2012). She has since told me she got a place to study there.

Currently tutoring AS geography for both the AQA and Edexcel board.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel engagement with the subject matter is the most important aspect to learning, and therefore my tutoring is always interactive. Learning through abstract concepts can be alienating, and therefore I ensure that the material covered is understood through means such as analogies to relatable situations/issues/concepts. I am diligent in planning for the lessons, and make sure that I understand in advance the specific areas that the tutee wants/needs to focus on.

Personal Description:
Alumnus of Imperial College London, where I obtained a BSc in Biology, and Hampton school . Currently a third year medical student at the university of Manchester, and I aspire to join the RAF as a doctor. Played the piano for the last 14 years, and was part of the Territorial Army and therefore doesn't shy away from hard work and discipline. My teaching experience has allowed me to interact with students from all walks of life and has given me the ability to build a caring yet professional relationship to get the best out of my students.

Teaching Experience:

Part time teaching assistance, for a number of years, at local primary schools whilst at secondary school and university. Spent 3 months in China teaching English to children at a summer school. Was the senior NCO at my school's air cadet organisation where I spent 4 years teaching younger cadets multiple subjects (non academic) to help better themselves. Whilst in Sixth form I was a mentor, looking after and helping the young students, trying to make their transition from primary to secondary education much smoother.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different and so different approaches are needed. Some work better in old fashioned, structured environments whilst some are more 'hands on'. The ability to distinguish the strengths and weaknesses in my tutees allows me to come up with the best way to teach them. Usually a system of discipline and rewards gets the best results from everyone. By going back to first principles I can also help students discover the answer to questions themselves, building on what they already know. Ultimately I try to ensure they enjoy their teaching time; joking and laughing whilst learning will ensure they get the best from themselves.

Personal Description:
I am an outgoing and hard working 1st Class BA Cambridge graduate, who can get along well with almost anybody. I've been consistently in education, having gone straight from school into university and straight from university into drama school.

I love to learn.

I am a huge fan of academia, having worked hard in my studies throughout my life, and I love stimulating my mind and working hard, and for that reason I love tutoring, where I can both teach and continue to learn myself.

Teaching Experience:

My degree at Cambridge University was in Education studies with English and Drama. Although it was not a teacher training course, the Education Studies module of the degree involved learning an introduction to the philosophy, psychology, sociology and history of education. I was also, of course, able to benefit from the private seminar and tutorial system that Cambridge offers. As a result, I am fully aware of how beneficial a one-on-one teaching style can help to build confidence, and heighten learning and understanding.

I have now been tutoring ages 7-18 for about 2 years, and have had very good feedback from my various jobs:

1. Lucy is an excellent enthusiastic tutor who does a great job keeping my son interested and engaged. I would highly recommend her. - Father of Zain (age 8)

2. I would really like to thank you for being such a great tutor. We appreciate the effort you put into preparing for the sessions with Ella and we have every confidence in your dedication and abilities. - Father of Ella (age 16)

3. "Julian scored 97% UMS marks in English Language, which is within 2.1% of all the boys taking English this year. For English Literature his UMS score was 97% again, which is within 4% of all the boys this year! This brilliant result, we think, is largely thanks to your help" - Mother of Julian (age 16)

4. Our son absolutely loved Lucy. She worked so hard with him in the lead-up to his exams, and I don`t know what we would have done without her! - Mother of Christopher (age 11)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is generally fun. I am the tutor who is also the friend. I do not let a child get away with misbehaviour or laziness, but at the same time I am certainly not stern and forceful. My approach is without a doubt to help the child learn to love the subject and want improvement for themselves, not because I demand it of them.

Firstly, I will always aim to find the areas the child is having the most difficulty with and break it down to its simplest form to help them understand. Once a child has understood the basic principle of what we are learning, I aim to push them as far as I can with their learning - my memory of the best teacher's I had at school were the teacher's who pushed me even further than I needed to go, and who gave me more knowledge and information than I needed to know. I then found that I entered my exams relaxed and confident, knowing that I had excess knowledge. Rather than learning just to answer set questions in an exam, I felt I truly understood those subjects.

Of course, I would play everything by ear though, and I would not pile extra work or information on a child if they are still struggling. We will work at a pace that is comfortable but useful for them.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate studying Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. I have recently completed my first year of study of a four-year course, gaining a distinction in the process. My academic results have been consistently excellent, providing me with a firm understanding of my chosen subjects.
I enjoy engaging people with new and potentially challenging ideas, encouraging them to progress academically. The exchange of ideas between tutor and tutee is something that I particularly enjoy and continue to focus on.

Teaching Experience:

My most notable tutoring experience was tutoring a young person, in Key Stage 3, in their studies for four to six hours a week for about two years. I was paid to tutor in all his subjects and my work mostly consisted of expanding on the syllabus, reviewing his homework and preparing him for tests. The tutee was not of English origin and a significant part of my work included improving his English. The pupil achieved top set for all his subjects as well as consistently high grades.
Secondly, I have gained tutoring experience overseeing a group of around twenty male pupils in Key Stage 2 and 3, providing constructive help with their homework and classwork. This was done for one hour per week for approximately six months as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. A key part of this experience was keeping the boys on task and focused.
Thirdly, I spent two years in the RAF Combined Cadet Force during sixth form where I rose to the rank of Sergeant. As a senior cadre, I was expected to do numerous presentations to the cadets informing them on the ethics, workings and history of the RAF as well as some of the principles of flight and navigation. This particularly provided me with great confidence to not only engage a variety of people but also communicated difficult and at times relatively dry subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fundamentally based on incentive and reward. I believe a small bribe of chocolate biscuits, gold stars etc. can go a long way towards motivating the tutee. I also aim to provide inventive exercises for the pupil, for example, with my young male tutee an exercise in learning vocabulary would be turned into some sort of game, typically with a small competitive element added in.
Ultimately, I wish for the tutee to gain an interest in a particular field of study and by presenting topics in an interesting light I feel they are able to do so.

Personal Description:
For the last five years I have been have been teaching geography at KS3, GCSE and A level in North London. I regard myself as having the skills and personality to form excellent professional relationships with students and I have the enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to make a positive contribution to the achievements of my students.

My personal strengths include excellent lesson planning and creation of resources and vast subject knowledge. This is supported by my 'outstanding' review in my most recent lesson observations. Under my school's independent learning initiative I have been at the forefront of adapting various strategies to use in my lessons. I have used these skills to help students achieve outstanding grades for their controlled assessments and help students become more self-motivated and prepared for later life.

Teaching Experience:

Secondary Head of Geography (Sept 2009 - present)
I am currently employed as a Head of Geography in a comprehensive school in North London.

Private Tutor (2009-2011)
I have tutored a number of students in both Geography and Maths and helped them to achieve results that exceeded their expectations.

EFL Teacher (2007-2008)
After completing my undergraduate I took a CELTA course to teach English as a foreign language. I lived in Vietnam for a year where I was employed as a full-time EFL teacher. I taught young learners between the ages of 6 and 18. These were further broken up into 3 different age groups and 7 different ability levels. I have also taught English to adults at a number of summer schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that it is really important to plan the tuition sessions to fit the needs of my individual student and I am committed the achievement of every student that I tutor. Working as a teacher in a 11-18 Secondary School means that I have access to a wealth of teaching resources and I am constantly learning new techniques to bring the best out of my students. I also work as an examiner for the Edexcel exam board with gives me a valuable insight into the exam expectation. I have been particularly successful when using past papers to help identify areas for improvement and I use a range of strategies to improve exam technique so that students are able to achieve to their full potential. My most recent student has just achieved a grade B in is GCSE geography which was a significant boost from his school's predicted target grade of a D grade. He has also chosen to continue his studies to A level after developing a love for the subject.

I have taught ICT full time for 4 years as well as some part time tutoring. My last A level student who I tutored achieved an A grade and when I started he was around a C grade. I have training in the Edexcel GCSE 2010 ICT Curriculum and also in the OCR Applied ICT A level curriculum.

Previously I have taught GCSE Photography and I was a professional tennis coach part time for 9 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find the areas that the student is having trouble with and zone in on those first, we can clear up a lot in a very short space of time and I always use plenty of examples and so on to help them understand and apply the data. I never move on unless I am sure they have achieved an adequate understanding. I move at the pace of the student but I also have a great belief that everyone can learn, and I aim to bring out their own inner belief and excellence.

Personal Description:
I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. This made me realise I enjoyed working with the people in their learning process, and college experience confirmed tutoring/teaching as a career choice. My subsequent one year PGCE has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for learners.

I have completed PGCE , a Masters and a BSc in Economics, level 5 Mathematics in Mechanics, numeracy level 1 & 2, Diploma in Computer Science & Application and I am a Certified Internet Webmaster Associate.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught general maths and functional maths 16 to over 19 year old students at the Tower Hamlets College. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant of key stage 4 for over two and half years in a co-educational, multi-cultural secondary school and helped students in Maths, English, Science and ICT and I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

Personal Description:
Relaxed style of teaching though I do tend to concentrate on the basics of any subject as without these the foundations for future learning will be too weak to achieve the highest levels attainable.

I held posts of responsibility, having been a Head of Department, Head of Year and a Deputy Key Stage Manager with responsibility for whole school Personal, Social and Health Education, Careers and Citizenship. Have been teaching Mathematics for the last 7 years.

I have been tutoring for over 12 years in a range of subjects from KS2 booster lessons and Kent Test Preparation, to A Level Geography (100% success so far).

Personal Description:
I am a Geography graduate of Magdalene College Cambridge. I studied Geography, Mathematics, Biology and English Literature at A Level as well as taking an Extended Project Qualification. I achieved 100% in several of my modules including Decision Mathematics, Victorian Literature, Biology practical work and my Geography AS paper. I am an open, friendly and approachable character with a genuine love of learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored previously and lectured at New York University. I have given talks to school aged children and fellow students at the London Science Museum and Cambridge University Engineering Department. As a Guide leader I am used to working with children and young people. In addition to this I have been tutored myself so know what can be achieved with one-on-one teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a strong work ethic driven mainly by my love of assimilating knowledge purely for knowledge's sake. I hope to not only improve my tutees abilities in their respective subjects but encourage them to enjoy their learning and see the value of education. I believe that confidence is a major factor when approaching a new or a difficult topic. Making mistakes is a natural part of learning and just because you are struggling with a problem now doesn't mean that you will never be able to solve it. I have first hand experience of this. In my first AS Maths exam in January I got a C. But by June I was achieving A grades and never slipped below this again. I believe that it was tutoring that was the catalyst for my improvement. It gave me the confidence to ask questions but it also showed me that the rapid pace of classroom learning doesn't suit everyone. Tutoring should consolidate what is taught in schools and should only push children beyond their age range's ability if the child is comfortable with this and has a keen interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated with a BSc Environmental Science degree from the University of Birmingham achieving a 2.1 and I now work at an SEN school as a Teaching Assistant. My degree spans many disciplines ranging from Chemistry, Biology to Earth and Atmospheric sciences. Having been the Environmental Society's events manager (at my university) punctuality and time-keeping are of utmost importance and I will always be punctual when attending a tutee's place of residence to teach. Also, my university professors have commented on my approach to teaching and communicating with a range of audiences and indicated that I effectively adapt my teaching style to suit the listener.

Music is a hobby of mine and I have been educated to such a standard, I am able to teach music to others. I have been affiliated with several orchestras for over a decade and I play clarinet to grade 8, have an extensive knowledge of the flute and saxophone and I have also completed grade 8 theory (ABRSM). I have many years' experience with orchestras, conducting and teaching individuals from intonation to breathing technique.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously tutored a GCSE student before her final Geography exam where she was successful and I have experience with teaching young people as exemplified by my orchestral association. I also have helped teach my 6 other siblings who have not progressed on to university but have benefited in their own GCSEs with my knowledge and helpful advice.
I currently work as a Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Technician in a school with children who have Special Educational Needs and my expertise with teaching children will be utilised when tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always strive for excellence where I aim to bring out the best in my tutee. I will always draft up a plan for my tutee and the parent (if applicable) to see so we can monitor the progress over the session(s). Also, I will set mock exam questions of my own and of the exam board's composition after a set period to ensure progress is being made; if progress is negligible however, the salient features will be addressed again.
