I am able to tutor GCSE English Language GCSE English Literature, ESOL English Literature, GCSE Geography, GCSE Psychology and Media Studies to A level. I have experience of one to one tutoring with both school and college students and adults, plus larger group teaching. I have been doing private tuition in my own home for four years now and its better for students to come to me as its a pressure free environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to teach from my home:
My home is quiet and fairly minimalistic. Lessons are held in my offce and I have a computer and Ipad that students can use.

I use the first meeting to talk about any difficulties in learning the subject in a formal educational setting and discuss any specific learning difficulties you may have. We can chat about strategies to help you learn more effectively and I will work with you at a pace that suits you. I will also ask the student to complete a learning styles questionnaire.

To the best of my ability I try to make subjects interesting to young people and re-engage them. Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge with a geography degree (2.1) in 2010. Since then I have worked as a Parliamentary Intern for the Campaign to Protect Rural England's national office, worked freelance for an Environmental Consultant, and home-schooled an 11 year old. I have completed the law conversion course (GDL) in London and am now doing the Legal Practitioner's Course (LPC) ahead of working for a Parliamentary and public sector focused solicitor's firm from August 2013.

Outside of my work and studies I am a keen sports player and love to travel. I play squash and tennis, and used to play lacrosse for Cambridge. I ski sporadically, and enjoy walking in the countryside (followed by pub lunches). I travelled to Hyderabad, India to undertake the research for my undergraduate dissertation (on return migration), spent 6 months in Central America teaching English and travelling before going to university, and organised a trip across South East Asia in 2008.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching English to Mexican school children for 5 months in 2007 (ages 3-18)

Geography Ambassador for the Royal Geographical Society - workshops and talks with students re continuing geography to A Level and/or University

Informal tutoring/advice for Oxbridge applications

Tutored a politics student ahead of her AS exams in 2011. She was predicted a D, and ended up with an A in one paper and B in the other, resulting in a B overall. (May - June '11)

Home-schooled an 11-year old every morning for a term. We focused on Maths and English, but other subjects were also explored at times (e.g. history, geography, science and even politics as her interests dictated) (May - July '11). I have continued to work with the family (in the UK and the US), helping the three children after school with things such as the school run, homework supervision, and games.

Tutored a different politics student for her AS retake (AQA Governing Modern Britain) in January 2012. She went from a D to a B (Nov '11- Jan '12)

Tutored various students in Geography and Politics AS for the January modules and retakes (Nov 2012 - Jan 2013). One got 100/100!

Ran mock interviews and general geography sessions for a student with a Cambridge geography interview (Dec 2012). She has since told me she got a place to study there.

Currently tutoring AS geography for both the AQA and Edexcel board.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel engagement with the subject matter is the most important aspect to learning, and therefore my tutoring is always interactive. Learning through abstract concepts can be alienating, and therefore I ensure that the material covered is understood through means such as analogies to relatable situations/issues/concepts. I am diligent in planning for the lessons, and make sure that I understand in advance the specific areas that the tutee wants/needs to focus on.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate studying Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. I have recently completed my first year of study of a four-year course, gaining a distinction in the process. My academic results have been consistently excellent, providing me with a firm understanding of my chosen subjects.
I enjoy engaging people with new and potentially challenging ideas, encouraging them to progress academically. The exchange of ideas between tutor and tutee is something that I particularly enjoy and continue to focus on.

Teaching Experience:

My most notable tutoring experience was tutoring a young person, in Key Stage 3, in their studies for four to six hours a week for about two years. I was paid to tutor in all his subjects and my work mostly consisted of expanding on the syllabus, reviewing his homework and preparing him for tests. The tutee was not of English origin and a significant part of my work included improving his English. The pupil achieved top set for all his subjects as well as consistently high grades.
Secondly, I have gained tutoring experience overseeing a group of around twenty male pupils in Key Stage 2 and 3, providing constructive help with their homework and classwork. This was done for one hour per week for approximately six months as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. A key part of this experience was keeping the boys on task and focused.
Thirdly, I spent two years in the RAF Combined Cadet Force during sixth form where I rose to the rank of Sergeant. As a senior cadre, I was expected to do numerous presentations to the cadets informing them on the ethics, workings and history of the RAF as well as some of the principles of flight and navigation. This particularly provided me with great confidence to not only engage a variety of people but also communicated difficult and at times relatively dry subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fundamentally based on incentive and reward. I believe a small bribe of chocolate biscuits, gold stars etc. can go a long way towards motivating the tutee. I also aim to provide inventive exercises for the pupil, for example, with my young male tutee an exercise in learning vocabulary would be turned into some sort of game, typically with a small competitive element added in.
Ultimately, I wish for the tutee to gain an interest in a particular field of study and by presenting topics in an interesting light I feel they are able to do so.

Personal Description:
I am an MA Digital Media Arts student at the University of Brighton. I have four years experience as a full time teacher of ICT at secondary level and above. I have four years experience as a part time teacher of Photography at GCSE level. I have several years of private tutoring experience in ICT, Business Studies and Sciences, Photoshop and Photography. In most cases I have lifted the grades of the student by at least one grade after private tuition. I have over 30 years of professional IT experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught ICT full time for 4 years as well as some part time tutoring. My last A level student who I tutored achieved an A grade and when I started he was around a C grade. I have training in the Edexcel GCSE 2010 ICT Curriculum and also in the OCR Applied ICT A level curriculum.

Previously I have taught GCSE Photography and I was a professional tennis coach part time for 9 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find the areas that the student is having trouble with and zone in on those first, we can clear up a lot in a very short space of time and I always use plenty of examples and so on to help them understand and apply the data. I never move on unless I am sure they have achieved an adequate understanding. I move at the pace of the student but I also have a great belief that everyone can learn, and I aim to bring out their own inner belief and excellence.

Personal Description:
I love history! I have been 'doing' history since I was 14, and it is something that encapsulates me into a whole different world. I have worked as a history teacher at a secondary school for 8 years, and have loved delving back into the past with the older and younger students alike. I studied and worked in archaeology before becoming a history teacher, and found working with real objects from the past was an amazing experience.

At home, I am mum to a nearly 4 year old daughter, and am 18 month old son. Being a mum is both challenging and rewarding and gives me the opportunity to be creative with activities. I am also a member of a local orchestra and enjoy many different types and styles of music. During the summer months, we all enjoy our camping trips to France in our old VW Camper Van, and spend a lot of time touring this country too.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching History at KS3, GCSE, AS and A-Level for 8 years. For four of those eight years I was Head of Department, responsible for issues such as curriculum, exams and monitoring student progress, so I am experienced in identifying areas of need for students and helping them to progress. I have been very successful with exam results, and have enjoyed guiding tutee's through their exam subjects.
I have taught AQA in the main, but have knowledge of OCR and Edexcel. I have also been a part of the teams of markers for AQA at A-level, and am currently a moderator for the Unit 4 coursework with Edexcel. I have knowledge and understanding what exam boards are looking for in response to exam questions and coursework objectives.

I am also working as a Functional Skills Tutor in Literacy to adults, which is both new and rewarding. This fits in well with my family and I am finding the challenge enjoyable.

I have been tutoring since Dec 2011, and really enjoy the change from class teaching. I have tutored a wide range of students with a wide range of needs, and have taught to all the exam boards. It is really rewarding to set up individual lessons and focus on exactly what is needed, knowing I can offer help and support to students. I like to be well prepared for individual lessons and to make the most of the time we have to improve techniques, subject knowledge and overall exam grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that what really helps students to progress is an understanding of exam technique. Having knowledge of the subject is important, but knowing how to handle it and use it in an exam situation if key to gaining top grades. I like to adopt a friendly and approachable manner with students to encourage focus and progress. I will go through essays and exam questions to identify areas that could be improved, and suggest ways of improving the use of language to make the most of student's knowledge. Giving feedback for written work is imperative to aid progress and this will take a large role in my tutoring.

Personal Description:
I am an English and Portuguese Teacher and Translator. I translate and interpret from English to Portuguese and vice versa. I teach Portuguese and English as a foreign language.

Are you considering learning Portuguese? Here are some reasons why Portuguese might be an excellent choice for you:

• Portuguese is the sixth most widely spoken language in the world with over 230 million speakers in four continents.

• The official language of eight countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tome and Príncipe, Madeira and the Azores.

• Widely spoken, though not official, in parts of India, Macau, Andorra, Luxemburg, Paraguay, South Africa, and Namibia.

• The working and/or official language in important international organizations such as the African Union, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, the European Union, and Mercosul, the Organization of American States, the Organization of Ibero-American States, and the Union of South American Nations.

• Brazil is a 21st-century economic and industrial powerhouse. It is the 5th largest economy in the world, recently overtaking the UK's economy.

• Numerous scientists consider Brazil to be the country with the most important biological diversity in the world.

• You want to learn Portuguese as it's your partner's native language and you want to improve communication between you.

• I teach European Portuguese (Portugal), Brazilian Portuguese (Brazil) and African Portuguese (Angola and Mozambique).

So what are you waiting for? Come learn Portuguese.

Are you considering learning English? Here are some reasons why English might be an excellent choice for you:

• English is the first language of approximately 375 million people, is the official language in 54 countries and is the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

• When combining native and non-native speakers, it is the most commonly spoken language in the world.

• The importance of learning English cannot be overstated in an increasingly connected and globalized world.

• For the many people that come to the United Kingdom from non-English-speaking countries every year, learning to communicate in English is important to enter and ultimately succeed.

• Working knowledge of the English language can create many opportunities in international markets and regions.

So what are you waiting for? Come learn English with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have 8 years of experience as a teacher. From 2004 to 2006, I worked as a History, Portuguese, English and other subjects tutor to primary and secondary students. From 2008 to 2012, I worked as a tutor guiding students in preparation of essays and dissertations in many different fields. Since 2012 I work as a full time Portuguese and English teacher in UK. I have experience with one-to-one and group lessons; beginners, intermediate, advanced and proficiency levels, present tuition and online tuition via Skype; teaching children from the age of 2; preparation for GCSE and A-level exams (OCR board); general training and language training for business purposes.

I have a degree in History with a teaching certificate which included an internship of 400 hours at a secondary school as a teaching assistant. I have a CRB check. I did a 3-month training course for teachers at SLAS (Society for Latin American Studies) in 2012. I am flexible about working hours and commuting to work.

Tutoring Approach:

• General training: I teach how to use Portuguese and English in everyday situations, like introducing yourself to someone; giving personal information; going to a restaurant; asking directions; making a reservation in a hotel; using public transport, etc.

• Business: My teaching method is based on a communicative approach, focusing on achieving fluency, improving reading and listening comprehension, and expanding vocabulary. I teach the use of Portuguese and English in a variety of business environments, based on key skills like presenting information, taking part in meetings and videoconferences, handling telephone calls, negotiating and writing concise business letters, e-mails or reports.

• E-learning: My e-learning method is specifically designed for adults who may have limited hours available, prefer the convenience of learning online and need to improve their Portuguese language skills quickly.

• GCSE and A-level exams: I coach the student using past papers, besides writing, reading and listening exercises.

• Children and Teenagers: My lessons for children and teenagers are varied and enjoyable, with music, culture, and multimedia features to make the learning process very enjoyable and practical.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year student at Glasgow University, studying Geography with Scottish Literature and English Language. I studied French in my first university year and all throughout secondary school. I achieved six A's at Higher and two A's at Advanced Higher (French and Geography). I can tutor English and Geography, as well as providing general essay-writing support for subjects that are 'writing heavy' (whether you require help structuring essays, assistance with spelling/grammar/punctuation, or simply a little help getting started!). I would describe myself as patient and cheerful, as well as enthusiastic about my studies, which always seems to help keep me going around exam time!

I am happy to tutor either from my home or to come to yours.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring English in the past two years, and I tutored a young secondary school pupil during my final year of school, for French. I also have experience doing voluntary work with young children, and childminding.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that equal measures of patience, diligence and creativity are vital when trying to latch onto any subject. When I was at school, my favourite subject was English, but it is only now that I study literature at university that I can look back on my progress and understand how I got to grips with essay writing. Struggling to understand what makes a good essay and the structure required is what seems to turn most pupils off essay-driven subjects, so I would be pleased to concentrate greatly on this and to try to break down the process into something more understandable, approachable and manageable.

I understand that every pupil studies and learns in a different way and thrives in different environments, so I would definitely take this into account with each pupil I tutor. As I have been through every year of exams at secondary school, getting more and more demanding and stressful each time (!), I have eventually discovered my personal study style, but in honing this to my own preference I have tried and experienced different methods along the way, some of which work for some people and some of which work for others.

Most importantly of all, I aim to strike the balance between a relaxed and equal student:tutor relationship (which I think is the main point of having a tutor closer to the age of the pupil, as it gives a refreshing change to the classroom environment) and actually getting the work done and seeing progress in the allotted time. I would plan and punctuate each study session with appropriate breaks and perhaps more enjoyable ways to test what has been learnt, like using study cards, etc, at the end of a session, but all the time making the very most of the time given.

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student, undertaking my doctorate in Environmental Sciences, with a focus on soil nutrient cycling and nutrient transport to surface and ground waters. I completed my BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter and gained first class honours in this.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

During my time at the secondary school I found that I produced good results working one-to-one with students, particularly with students that were struggling to understand concepts or were having difficulty with the teaching style being used in the classroom. I am patient, focussed and willing to work hard to enable a tutee to achieve their goals.

Personal Description:
I am a Geography graduate of Magdalene College Cambridge. I studied Geography, Mathematics, Biology and English Literature at A Level as well as taking an Extended Project Qualification. I achieved 100% in several of my modules including Decision Mathematics, Victorian Literature, Biology practical work and my Geography AS paper. I am an open, friendly and approachable character with a genuine love of learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored previously and lectured at New York University. I have given talks to school aged children and fellow students at the London Science Museum and Cambridge University Engineering Department. As a Guide leader I am used to working with children and young people. In addition to this I have been tutored myself so know what can be achieved with one-on-one teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a strong work ethic driven mainly by my love of assimilating knowledge purely for knowledge's sake. I hope to not only improve my tutees abilities in their respective subjects but encourage them to enjoy their learning and see the value of education. I believe that confidence is a major factor when approaching a new or a difficult topic. Making mistakes is a natural part of learning and just because you are struggling with a problem now doesn't mean that you will never be able to solve it. I have first hand experience of this. In my first AS Maths exam in January I got a C. But by June I was achieving A grades and never slipped below this again. I believe that it was tutoring that was the catalyst for my improvement. It gave me the confidence to ask questions but it also showed me that the rapid pace of classroom learning doesn't suit everyone. Tutoring should consolidate what is taught in schools and should only push children beyond their age range's ability if the child is comfortable with this and has a keen interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated with a BSc Environmental Science degree from the University of Birmingham achieving a 2.1 and I now work at an SEN school as a Teaching Assistant. My degree spans many disciplines ranging from Chemistry, Biology to Earth and Atmospheric sciences. Having been the Environmental Society's events manager (at my university) punctuality and time-keeping are of utmost importance and I will always be punctual when attending a tutee's place of residence to teach. Also, my university professors have commented on my approach to teaching and communicating with a range of audiences and indicated that I effectively adapt my teaching style to suit the listener.

Music is a hobby of mine and I have been educated to such a standard, I am able to teach music to others. I have been affiliated with several orchestras for over a decade and I play clarinet to grade 8, have an extensive knowledge of the flute and saxophone and I have also completed grade 8 theory (ABRSM). I have many years' experience with orchestras, conducting and teaching individuals from intonation to breathing technique.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously tutored a GCSE student before her final Geography exam where she was successful and I have experience with teaching young people as exemplified by my orchestral association. I also have helped teach my 6 other siblings who have not progressed on to university but have benefited in their own GCSEs with my knowledge and helpful advice.
I currently work as a Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Technician in a school with children who have Special Educational Needs and my expertise with teaching children will be utilised when tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always strive for excellence where I aim to bring out the best in my tutee. I will always draft up a plan for my tutee and the parent (if applicable) to see so we can monitor the progress over the session(s). Also, I will set mock exam questions of my own and of the exam board's composition after a set period to ensure progress is being made; if progress is negligible however, the salient features will be addressed again.

Personal Description:
Private tutor in English , Geography , History , Urdu & Business studies. Recently finished my Masters degree in Logistics & Supply chain management. I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.Based in Luton

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor of mentioned subjects since 3 years now.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!
