Hello!

Personal Description:
I am told by native speakers that I speak very fluently and have a great accent in both languages - I really enjoy tutoring and speaking both languages ! I get a real buzz from the interplay between myself and the student and spend a great deal of time preparing sessions so that i can deliver the best for my students. I visit Spain and France regularly, love watching Spanish and French DVDs and listening to music of Hispanic and French origin. Since retiring from full-time teaching (see below) I have been personal tutoring for 7 years and have students - both adult and children (as young as 5 ! ) some of whom have stayed with me for several years, as well as GCSE and A level students who have kept me as a tutor throughout their courses.

Teaching Experience:

I gained my degree in Spanish and French from London University (Queen Mary College) and a Teaching Certificate from Sheffield City College of Education. I taught for almost 30 years in a mixed, partially selective secondary school in London until 2001 when I retired to the country (!)from my post as Deputy Headteacher. I had experience there of teaching from beginners to 'A' level. I also marked GCSE Spanish speaking exams for 5 years - from 2005-2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very careful to tailor my approach to the strengths/weaknesses of the student . I use a variety of media - traditional text books , self-authored worksheets, cd, dvd, powerpoint, past papers from exams, etc . My experience over the last 30 years enables me to vary my delivery during the lesson as required, aiming to match the materials and methods I use to the needs of the student.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary school teacher and have coninued my professional development through regular courses over the years. I can help with any subject on primary level, including languages such as German, French, Spanish and English. I am a warm, caring and patient person with a back-ground in complementary therapies having addressed sensitive issues such as weight management and addiction. This job equipped me with excellent communication and personal skills.

SUMMER HOLIDAYS OFFER:

Qualified Teacher, Experienced Tutor and Registered Childminder offers One-to-One Tuition for children aged 5-11 at a reduced rate during the summer holidays. A block booking of six sessions to be carried out during the summer holidays is available at a reduced rate of £100 for six sessions (discount of 35%, which works out to about £16 a session as opposed to the usual £25 per hour). Bookings and payments need to be made by 21 June in order to ensure availability. The earlier you book the more likely you will be able to book sessions on days and at times that suit your own timetable best. Sessions take place at my house in Chessington and if 1-hour drop-offs are inconvenient there is the opportunity to drop off your child 1-2 hours extra at the cost of an additional £5 per hour during which time educational play activities will be carried out. Lots of resources (as well as a play-mate aged 7) are available. Please visit my website for information regarding myself and my work.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in whole-class teaching (reception to year 6), group teaching and one-to-one tuition during the last six years. Alongside my private tuition I am currently working as supply teacher across the age phases.

I have worked successfully with children of varying ages and from different back-grounds including children with special educational needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I am offering a high-quality tuition service for any subject for children in primary education (4 to 11). Hours can be very flexible to suit families' needs.

The approach that I favour is to firstly look at what the student can do as opposed to cannot and use this as a base to form understanding for the new. Lots of encouragement and positive reinforcement is used and the child receives training in meta-cognition (understanding how learning works and enabling the student to develop learning strategies that can be applied universally). Activities are carefully planned to address the learner's individual learning styles whether it be visual, auditory or kinaesthetic.

Where appropriate and feasible content is presented in the context of games games in order to engage children deeply into learning. Personal targets are set for each child and regularly reviewed. Parents are kept informed on their child's progress and advice is given on how they can support their child's learning.

One-to-one tuition is available as well as group tuition with a maximum of four children per group.

Group tuition offers benefits that cannot be achieved during one-to-one tuition:
more opportunities for games-based learning
focused development of social skills and team work
peer tutoring and peer assessment

Please note that for group tuition parents need to apply as a group (4 children) to qualify for group rates. Children don't have to necessarily be in the same year group as experience has shown that basic numeracy and literacy skills are in need for extra support across the year groups. However, it is recommended the age gap is not too wide as teaching styles vary for different age groups.

Language Tuition is available for the following languages: German (native speaker), French, Spanish, English
Languages are taught in the context of fun games.
Language Tuition is also open to adults and focuses heavily on learner's individual needs (e.g. business use, leisure, talking, writing etc.)

I also have experience in providing extra support to children who are being home-schooled by their parents.

Personal Description:
I am a French national who has lived 30+ years in England and after a 25 year career in the secondary and Sixth form sector, I have become self employed as a language trainer and examiner.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Sixth form colleges for 25 years , tutored evening adult classes at the local College of further Education, I have been a teacher at the Alliance Francaise in Manchester from 2000 to 2010, I am an Advanced Level examiner and have marked the GCSE OCR French exam too. I teach business French in a number of companies.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching one to one, in small or larger groups.
Teaching 16-19 year olds , adults at every level of language learning, preparing University students for their oral / written examinations,in intensive, semi-intensive, regular weekly packages, etc...
I believe in the communicative approach, developing the speaking and listening skills, reading and finally writing, but all depends on the way the learner wishes to use the language. Obviously, in the case of pupils and students, the syllabus has to dictate the format of the preparation..
The important thing is that the learning experience should be pleasant, positive and empowering

My approach of teaching is really informal in a relax atmosphere but with great results.

How long does it takes to learn a second language?

After having given many tuitions ,I wanted to get back to some basic facts on how to learn a language as sometimes the requests I receive are either not realistic such as high expectations, becoming proficient by having an hour a week tuition and so on...

So here are a few facts:

_The more time per week you can spend learning a language, the faster you`ll be able to reach your goal.

_Interacting with native speakers and practicing speaking is always faster and more effective than passive learning, like reading or using tapes. If you can find a tutor to work one-on-one with you, then you can learn a language much faster than if you`re learning in a large group of people. When you learn one-on-one you can set the learning pace. Make sure not to take too many breaks from learning a new language until you`ve reached your goal. Taking a vacation from your study plan can mean losing a lot of the information you worked so hard to remember.

_Depending on your language background, you can become fluent in another language in as little as three months, or it may take you years. Every person is different, and the time it takes to learn a new language is based upon how much time you can devote to studying, your natural ability to learn languages, and your ultimate goal in learning the language.

_Creating and keeping learning is an important part of learning a language, and will ensure that you learn the language within the time frame you need to. If you want to become proficient within six months, then set goals to learn and remember a couple new phrases per day, or practice reading a newspaper article in your target language once a week.

_Motivation is one of the keys to succeed! If you do not want to learn the language, you won't.

_Relax and enjoy yourself! Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control. So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success.

I hope you have enjoyed the article.

I look forward to having you as one of my tutees.

Personal Description:
Bonjour! My name is Fabienne, I am a native French speaker. I have been a private tutor for 4 years in Cardiff and enjoy helping individual students realise their potential and improve their grades. I am friendly and approachable and can make learning fun.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching French for the past 4 years, face to face and via Skype (online). I have tutored GCSE and A Level students to help them prepare their exams. I have also tutored mature students/adults to improve their spoken French and grammar.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is essential to identify the person`s level, the reason why they are learning the subject, their learning styles and their interests in order to avoid getting confused later. I then suggest a `learning plan` and discuss with the students how they would like to learn and what level they would like to achieve.

Whether you need help with French pronunciation, general conversation, grammar, or just a confidence boost or maybe a bit of everything, I would be happy to help!

My schedule is flexible.

I am 56 years old, am a qualified teacher with 15 years experience. I am an easy-going reliable person who likes to make my students feel at ease at all times.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching seconday school students since qualifying in 1998. I have had two full-time posts, worked as a supply teacher as well as having private students. I have worked in Inner London, Outer London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire schools. I have also worked in France at a small private school during the '80's, predominantly teaching adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach French using the native tongue as much as possible. I use my own resources although I use the Internet for ideas whenever it's suitable.
For Maths I follow the syllabus laid down by whichever examining board the student is using and resources come from a wide variety of places usually from where I have recently been teaching. I gather information from colleagues who sometimes have great ideas. I like to be able to go through past papers with students marking work as we go through a course.

Personal Description:
I am a MFL teacher (Spanish and French specialist) living in Croydon area. Since I was a child, I love languages and social relationships. Besides, I enjoy a lot helping and developing the understanding and skills in my pupils in these languages to get always the best.

Teaching Experience:

From October 2008 to April 2009 I have worked as a language assistant in a high school in Angoulme (France). My main duties were teaching conversational Spanish twelve hours per week to different classes and levels (from primary to secondary), supporting the teachers in the Spanish language department, coordinating small group discussions during regular class time under the guidance of a full-time teacher, and collaborating with extra curricular activities organized in the high school along the academic year.
Appart from that, I have worked several times in Spain as Spanish & French private teacher, and nowadays I have 3 years of teaching experience in the UK (both comprehensive and grammar schools).

Tutoring Approach:

Foremost, I consider myself a person with a strong aptitude for tutoring, combined with self-confidence and the ability to take critic of my work, constructively.
My greatest strength is to inspire and motivate learners. I am able to engage their minds by incorporating a variety of enjoyable activities and learning projects. In addition, I tailor lesson plans to meet their diverse interests, as well as demonstrate direct connections between the tutor time and everyday life.
Discipline is also a characteristic to which I pay close attention during my tutoring, because I consider it is one of the fundamental pillars of the educational process.
As well, I have a great deal of patience and know that little steps in learning go a long way. This quality, I believe is especially important in dealing with learners. In the same line, I am flexible, open minded and empathic when approaching them. I enjoy creating new ways of learning and using all the tools to hand, to use traditional and innovative approaches to learning. Lastly, I believe, to listen to other point of views within the lesson is very essential, because it is important for the good tutor-student interaction and contributes to the student's learning success.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker, born and educated in Paris, but I have been living in England for over 30 years and married an Englishman. I graduated from the Sorbonne University with a view to teaching English there but when I came to England as a French assistante I fell in love with the country and with one of the natives and I soon qualified as a French teacher. I have been working in that capacity until the beginning of this Autumn term when I retired from full-time teaching. So I am very experienced. and I consider myself an extremely dedicated teacher, eager to see the students progress and enjoy learning about French culture at the same time as they improve their command of the language. I believe that the most efficient way of learning other than total immersion is the one to one approach which has often allowed me to enable the students willing to invest the extra time to progress exponentially, get motivated and achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French and English to adults (managerial staff and trainees) in the private sector, in small groups and individually.
Subsequently, I have taught French from KS3 to KS5, full-time on permanent contracts for nearly 30 years in total. At the same time I have tutored my own son to passing his French G.C.S.E. with the top mark in the country, and his French A Level with flying colours. As a result he is now reading French at Oxford University and he continues to call on my expertise whenever needed. A few years ago, one of my A Level students whom I tutored privately obtained the top marks in the country in every module of the Edexcel exam. I am extremely experienced in coaching students to success in their G.C.S.E. and A Level French exams and the overwhelming majority of my students systematically achieved their potential or better. For over 10 years I took on virtually all the A Level French teaching at my last school and have always acted as teacher-examiner for both G.C.S.E. and A Level..

Tutoring Approach:

First, I assess what each student is aiming to gain from the private tuition, whether it be coaching for written and/or oral examinations, building confidence in communicating within a given context, improving pronunciation, mastering the finer points of grammar, studying French literature etc. I also quickly evaluate the level and ability of individual student through gentle probing and questioning. I go on to prepare an appropriate programme of study and gather material such as PowerPoint presentations, tailor made practice exercises, Past Papers, relevant websites, use visual and aural aids to add interest. I set homework and can give feedback on line between lessons to maximise efficiency of personal contact time. Basically it all depends on what the student wishes to achieve.Because I know the subject so well I can be extremely flexible and can instantly fine tune my approach according to the need of my student at any given moment. Thanks to my long experience I have become extremely responsive to the all-important feedback

Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Westminster of 24 years old. I am studying a Master Degree in Translation and Interpreting. I already have a Master Degree in Translation (English and Spanish) from the University of Granada (Spain). I have spent 1 year studying in Milan (Italy). I am a very enthusiastic person, with facility to teach and motivate my students to do their best in my subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as Spanish teacher in France. I worked with children aged between 15 and 25 years old in two french high-schools located in Vichy (Auvergne). I have worked as internship teacher for 8 months. Nevertheless. I also have a title of sports and free time instructor and I have being several times doing this job in Spain and Malta (always with children aged between 4 to 18 years old).

Tutoring Approach:

I have always find that the role of a teacher is very committed. Our role is to motivate our students, making the word "study" easy for them, using games, role-plays and sometimes, films or music. I do not forget that the society in where we live is based on technology and using technologies to support us is the best way to approach to the new generations. I base my lessons on giving information, vocabulary, correct homework, knowing the difficulties of the student and reinforce his strengths.
