I am happy to help devise a tailor-made course depending on the needs of the individual be it for conversational/tourist language or more advanced or business usage.

I am also able to support sixth formers with university applications and interviews, particularly for arts subjects and Oxbridge.

Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 29-year-old French male. I have been living, studying and working in the UK for more than two years. I worked as a chef two years ago, as a French assistant last year and as a trainee-teacher this year when studying the PGCE French with Spanish. I am now a qualified teacher and I work in a comprehensive school near Reading.
Before coming to the UK, I studied philosophy and French language and literature at the Université de Strasbourg. I have a very good knowledge of French literature and grammar and it has been very helpful to my past tutees.

I am easy-going and I adapt myself easily. One of my favourite hobbies is speaking foreign languages and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

In Reading:
I have been teaching French in a comprehensive school to pupils aged from 11 to 18.

In Liverpool:
I have been tutoring a mature student to improve her speaking from January 2012.
As part of my PGCE, I taught French from Y7 to Y13 and Spanish up to Y9 from October 2011 to 2012.

In Grimsby:
As a French assistant, from November 2010 to May 2011, I helped primary and secondary students with their French on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and I also taught lessons to whole classes.

In Bolton:
I taught French language -grammar and literature- to a mature-student retired from teaching from October 2009 to March 2010. (testimonial available)

In Strasbourg:
I gave lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg in the summer 2010.
I also helped two primary school pupils with their homework from 2007 to 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

As I strongly believe that languages and cultures come together, I always strive to work on authentic material and I also give my tutees many opportunities to learn in out of tution context in order to develop their cultural knowledge.

However, for me the most important in teaching is to meet the needs of learners. Therefore, my priority is first of all to assess the needs of my tutees. Tutees may want to develop only some of the 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading, or writing, depending on the use they want to make of French. They also may have particular topics they want to work on, functions of their needs, projects or tastes.

This student-led approach must be carried on throughout the lessons. The role of the tutor is to maximise opportunities for the learner to discover things by themselves because this is the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn.

Last but not least, languages are interesting and fun at the same time. They develop thinking skills as well as they provide entertainment. My tutoring reflects this philosophy. This is why I always try to alternate entertainment and thinking time during the lessons.

Personal Description:
Confidence is often the stumbling block for learners, and I always encourage all of my students to feel an early sense of achievement. Enabling students to see real progress quickly is essential to the building of self-esteem. I am very approachable and my style of teaching is relaxed and friendly. I love my job and hope that my own enthusiasm inspires my students to excel. Recently I have added French to my repertoire, for absolute beginners. I am sure French will be as popular and exciting as English has been.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English teacher since 1976. I have taught all age groups, from nursery to A Level. Teaching is a wonderful and totally satisfying vocation. I moved across to tutoring as I felt I could offer all of my experience in this role. Being a teacher is definitely something I was born to do, and I love it.

Tutoring Approach:

Students can learn by either visiting my home or at a distance using Skype. Every student is assessed as an individual and the content of their course tailored to their needs. I test my students periodically to ensure progress is going smoothly; also testing is a good way for students to observe their own progress. We use a variety of materials: books for writing and reading, the computer for visual skills and games, listening and speaking is a major part of the programme for EFL students. Children learn in different ways, and I like to offer my students visual, auditory and kinetic tools, we can see which is most comfortable for the individual. The speed of learning is not as important as the confidence of the individual and their inspiration and motivation to progress.

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving private lessons in mathematics and physics for the past 10 years during summer holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

During a private lesson, a student must have time to achieve a deeper understanding of information seen in school. I try to develop students intuition to understand new notions and put an emphasis on an enjoyable way of learning and solving problems.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker, born and educated in Paris, but I have been living in England for over 30 years and married an Englishman. I graduated from the Sorbonne University with a view to teaching English there but when I came to England as a French assistante I fell in love with the country and with one of the natives and I soon qualified as a French teacher. I have been working in that capacity until the beginning of this Autumn term when I retired from full-time teaching. So I am very experienced. and I consider myself an extremely dedicated teacher, eager to see the students progress and enjoy learning about French culture at the same time as they improve their command of the language. I believe that the most efficient way of learning other than total immersion is the one to one approach which has often allowed me to enable the students willing to invest the extra time to progress exponentially, get motivated and achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French and English to adults (managerial staff and trainees) in the private sector, in small groups and individually.
Subsequently, I have taught French from KS3 to KS5, full-time on permanent contracts for nearly 30 years in total. At the same time I have tutored my own son to passing his French G.C.S.E. with the top mark in the country, and his French A Level with flying colours. As a result he is now reading French at Oxford University and he continues to call on my expertise whenever needed. A few years ago, one of my A Level students whom I tutored privately obtained the top marks in the country in every module of the Edexcel exam. I am extremely experienced in coaching students to success in their G.C.S.E. and A Level French exams and the overwhelming majority of my students systematically achieved their potential or better. For over 10 years I took on virtually all the A Level French teaching at my last school and have always acted as teacher-examiner for both G.C.S.E. and A Level..

Tutoring Approach:

First, I assess what each student is aiming to gain from the private tuition, whether it be coaching for written and/or oral examinations, building confidence in communicating within a given context, improving pronunciation, mastering the finer points of grammar, studying French literature etc. I also quickly evaluate the level and ability of individual student through gentle probing and questioning. I go on to prepare an appropriate programme of study and gather material such as PowerPoint presentations, tailor made practice exercises, Past Papers, relevant websites, use visual and aural aids to add interest. I set homework and can give feedback on line between lessons to maximise efficiency of personal contact time. Basically it all depends on what the student wishes to achieve.Because I know the subject so well I can be extremely flexible and can instantly fine tune my approach according to the need of my student at any given moment. Thanks to my long experience I have become extremely responsive to the all-important feedback

I have excellent results from my current students and wish to harness my knowledge again into the field of private tuition.

Personal Description:
I have been living in London for two years now, to start a new career and to develop a rich English language. Previously, I was born and lived in Paris for the first 25 years of my life.
I stay naturally interested in the educational field beside my work as a tutor, as I have committed into a Psychology course at City University London. Specifically, I always show curiosity and respect towards the unique approach that every learner needs when assimilating new knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

In Paris, I started as a volunteer within the French Red Cross and organised French classes for women experiencing severe linguistic disadvantages. In parallel, I was in charge of teaching privately a minor with learning and concentration disabilities.

I have become a home tutor since I have been living in London. Students for French are from 4 to 65 levelling from beginner to upper-intermediate. My emphasis is to organize classes according to students' needs. For conversational and business lessons, I have looked for the use of new other resources such as interactive exercises, programs on the radio, dictations, bilingual books, journals, softwares, card games and various playful activities for children; all beside a regular work on a book based on goals set.

In a more academic context, I have been helping French learners with writing, working thoroughly on essay and other writing skills (developing opinions, descriptions of past and current activities, plans and intentions). Besides, I have focused on adjusting the balance between passive and active skills according to each student, and working also on pronunciation. In other situations, we have also often gone through intensive preparation for school French examinations (GCSE, A-Level, Common Entrance examination, SAT, examinations in France such as the CRPE).

Moreover, I have been teaching Mathematics and Biology at primary, secondary and at a GCSE levels, in preparation of the exams. As I have been studying these subjects for a long time now and have shown curiosity towards them, I have also understood the specific school expectations at all levels.

Tutoring Approach:

In light of my current experience, I have realised how much teaching enhances interest to me. Successful learning has come through building motivation and confidence with my students. In many situations, learning will ask the learner to make an effort and the tutor has the duty to create the appropriate strategies for them to assimilate knowledge. I will be able to fulfil this by understanding deeply their specific gaps.
From the beginning, I have realised how essential it is to establish goals, to stay positive and resilient with learners. I have learnt to remain patient, focused on aims, as well as interested in all my students as unique persons and finding out the suitable learning pace for each of them. I have enjoyed conveying knowledge, stimulating and helping them to improve specific skills.

Achieving them to develop their confidence and being able to motivate, learn by themselves, and to handle new challenges has always been rewarding to me.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker who has taken a break from teaching languages in order to raise my two children. I tutor students of all ages.

Teaching Experience:

I taught languages in a secondary school for 13 years, French to A level and Spanish to GCSE.

For the past 10 years, I have been an examiner for one of the country's leading examination board. In the summer I conduct speaking tests in schools.

I have taught French in primary schools and after-school clubs as well as tutoring people wanting to learn languages for pleasure or to help them communicate more effectively on holiday.

I have also worked with language students at university, at degree level, as well as supporting students wishing to achieve or improve their grade at the examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my lessons to individual needs and seek to build confidence in speaking and using the language by using a variety of materials and making learning fun. I regularly use games to practise or reinforce vocabulary and grammatical structures. I aim to make all my lessons fun but also productive.

Personal Description:
Hi!

I am a PhD student living in London, but based at the University of Warwick. I was lucky enough to be awarded a prestigious Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarship for my thesis. I graduated from the University of Warwick with that year`s highest First Class degree in French and Italian Studies (2012). I recently received a Distinction in my Master`s degree in French Studies (2013). I hope to go on to lecture full-time.

In my spare time I act and direct theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently on my University`s training programme in order to teach undergraduate classes next academic year, both grammar and literature. I will be leading undergraduate seminars this academic year.

In 2011 I spent 2 months teaching English to Italian children aged 7-13 in Italy. The same year I spent 5 months teaching English to French university students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very friendly and outgoing, and endeavour to be laid back whilst taking my work very seriously and encouraging students to work hard and learn to the best of their ability.

Classes will be well-structured, with clearly defined goals and learning outcomes, both long- and short-term. Exercises will be provided to help with grammar, translation and essay-writing skills. With regards to literature, students will be encouraged to think independently and encouraged to debate and disagree with my views. However, structure, writing style, grammar and content will be consistently challenged.

Personal Description:
Hello and thank you for visiting my profile!
I work as an Associate Director at a market research company and one of the reasons I love my job is because it allows me to practice all the languages that I speak. I am fortunate enough to be able to communicate with clients from different parts of Europe in their own language and this is a valuable skill in the world of business. I find people fascinating and love working and socialising with different individuals.
I have been living in London for nearly 10 years. I previously studied and lived in Milan, Italy where I obtained a university degree in International Economics and Management. I also lived in French-speaking Lausanne, Switzerland where I did some of my studies.
I get on well with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. My aim is to provide help in the most efficient and easiest way for the individual to comprehend and improve in the language without making it feel like a burden.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously taught English as a foreign language, Italian and French to children aged 9-13, adolescents and adults. In the past my tutees have markedly improved their knowledge and have managed to fill the gaps. In my experience it usually takes a tutee 1-3 months to notice a difference and 3-6 months to feel more confident with the language.

Tutoring Approach:

The first and most important thing for me is to find out where specifically the tutee has difficulties or gaps with the subject. I always take into consideration how a student normally studies and what approach works best for them. Sometimes tutees have difficulties applying their usual studying method to certain subjects, so I may need to first help them find the right approach in order to maximise the outcome.
I am a strong believer in using a calm but firm approach in tutoring as it is the most likely to yield positive results with the tutee. I expect a tutee to be committed to the subject they aim to improve on and use their sessions with me to understand better and/or enhance their knowledge of the subject.

Personal Description:
I am very patient and love challenges. I am motivated and I made Team GB as a junior in rowing and am hoping to carry on into the Under 23 and Senior Teams. I would like to think that I am hopefully an interesting person as I have many interests such as sailing, tennis, playing the harp and reading. I am only 20 years old but I believe that it is a huge advantage as I have only recently been through the education system and am still in higher education so I can interact with younger students on a more personal level and know how to keep them interested and motivated especially as I have had very valuable and recent experience of this while tutoring a younger sibling. As I mention further down I also have a lot of experience coaching people of all ages in rowing which although it isn't French, means I have a transferable set of skills and experience.

Teaching Experience:

I am fluent in French as I was born there and lived and went to school in France till I was six. My Father is French and I speak with him in French and we go regularly back to France to visit family. I am not confident in written French as most of my written French is what I learnt at school in England, however my spoken French is native and I have a good cultural awareness of French customs. I do not have formal tutoring experience but I have tutored my sister a lot in various subjects and I also have a lot of experience coaching people of all ages and abilities at my rowing club. I may not have much experience but I am motivated and keen to gain some good experience as teaching and coaching others is something I have discovered I really enjoy.

Tutoring Approach:

I like figuring out how an individual learns and tailoring my technique to best suit any individual. I enjoy passing on my knowledge to others in the things I enjoy and hopefully inspiring them to also keep up a keen interest in those areas. As I have no formal qualifications I am more than happy to meet up beforehand for a chat so you can make a more informed decision as to whether I can offer you what you need.

Personal Description:
I am a college lecturer with 30 years experience in teaching modern foreign languages: English (ESOL), French and Russian.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching ESOL, French and Russian for 30 years now at Universities, colleges and privately. I am teaching the languages at all levels: from the beginners up to the advanced. I am also preparing students for exams in academic IELTS.

Tutoring Approach:

I am teaching all the aspects of the language: speaking/listening, reading/writing. My teaching is grammar based as without the knowledge of grammar it is impossible to make up correct sentences. I am using authentic materials in all the languages I teach. There are a lot of activities resulting in improving speaking skills. My students always get higher results at the exams than they were initially hoping for. There is always a good rapport with the students. The students get all the help they need. My lessons are always well structured, lively and meet students' satisfaction.
