Tutoring Approach:

I use books, handouts,CDs,games, newspaper articles among other resources such as past papers for exam preparations.

Very often, many people's only previous experience of learning a language has been at school, where a great deal of emphasis was placed on reading and writing a language with the purpose of passing an examination. However, teaching approaches to modern language training have changed enormously in recent years, and as a result, learning a language is now a lot more fun and a far more rewarding experience!
Languages are now widely taught using a method known as the Communicative Approach or Direct Method, whereby the teacher conducts the session almost entirely in the target language regardless of the student's level. While it may take getting used to initially, the method has proven to be highly effective and is adopted by language training organisations around the world.

Personal Description:
First and foremost, I am passionate about languages and language learning. In addition to my main languages of French and Italian, I have also studied, German, Spanish and Turkish.

I am an experienced teacher / examiner / tutor of French and Italian from the Northampton area and can cater for all ages and abilities.

I am focused on providing high-quality service and customer satisfaction - I will do everything I can to meet your expectations.

I have a BA (Hons) degree in French and Italian, a PGCE and an advanced certificate in Educational Management.

I am CRB checked.

I am an examiner in both French and Italian for three exam boards but also have considerable knowledge of all the other major exam boards.

I have lived and worked in France and have spent considerable time in Italy.

I enjoy all aspects of French and Italian culture and travel on a regular basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in both the State and Private sectors for 25 years with almost 20 years experience as Head of Department/Faculty.

In addition, I have worked as a freelance French and Italian tutor for a number of years.

I also tutor pupils towards Common Entrance examinations in French and as a former Head of Faculty in the private sector, have a keen awareness of the skills required to succeed.

I have taught intensive revision workshops for both GCSE and A level during school holidays.

I have run weekly French clubs for KS2 primary school children and have organised French language and culture days for KS2 primary school children.

Tutoring Approach:

This should be undertaken in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and tailored to individual needs to achieve maximum benefit.

I believe that language learning should be an interesting and fun experience. The main principle is effective communication.

For students focusing on exam preparation, I also ensure that my students are secure in their knowledge and understanding of grammatical concepts and make frequent use of past papers.

I use a variety of materials including audio-visual in order to develop all four of the language skills, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Personal Description:
My name is Laura and I am a native French teacher from Harrow, North London. I relished learning languages at school because I was taught by inspiring teachers and that is why I decided to make it my profession. I am very hard working, never afraid of a challenge and always happy to be teaching. Moreover I am organised, punctual and reliable and very enthusiastic with a fun and approachable manner. As a result, I feel that I have an ability to push my students to reach beyond their boundaries as studying no longer becomes a chore.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching French for over 25 years to all ages and all academic levels. Throughout my time as a teacher, I have worked and still do for several nurseries schools, set up my own business offering after school clubs, had a great deal of private lessons from primary school children to GCSE and A Level students and most recently have started conversation lessons for adults.

Tutoring Approach:

From my years of experience, I can see how general teaching in schools doesn't always work, as every child is different. This is why I offer a bespoke service to cater to the child's needs. This includes adapting what they enjoy to the learning process, which allows them a greater comprehension of the language. Students only learn if they are engaged in what they are doing. I have a positive attitude to teaching and give a great deal of encouragement.

I find it a real joy watching my students improve and eventually flourish in a subject they were struggling with at the beginning.

Personal Description:
Having completed my undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, followed by a Masters degree in Politics with distinction, I am now a speechwriter and chief of staff to a member of the House of Lords who is the former CEO of a FTSE100 company. I am very keen to share my enthusiasm for my subject areas with students. Whilst at university I was involved in a wide variety of activities, including editing a magazine, conducting an orchestra and captaining a squash team, so I understand the pressures students face to balance academic studies with extra-curricular activities. By providing effective, valuable tutoring, I hope I can ease these pressures.

Teaching Experience:

With five years' experience of the Oxford tutorial system (including a period conducting admission interviews for undergraduates), and two years' experience writing high profile speeches and newspaper articles, I can provide challenging, engaging and friendly tutoring at a variety of levels, including to those preparing for applications to Oxford or Cambridge. I offer a particular focus on rigour and precision when it comes to students expressing themselves; in my experience, this can make all the difference when it comes to an academic or entrance exam. The broad nature of my degree means I can offer tutoring in Economics, Politics, Maths (including statistics), German and French, all of which I studied at A Level or university myself. As a post-graduate student of politics, I can also offer particular expertise here.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a real passion for my subject areas, and I believe that an enthusiastic tutor is the first step in enabling a student to achieve their full potential, whatever level they may be studying at. For exciting, dynamic tutoring from someone with extensive experience of one of the most admired teaching systems in the world, please get in touch!

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Emma

Thanks for reading my profile and I would love to have the opportunity to help you improve your French.

I am a very motivated and organised person who has spent a lot of time in France and consequently I have a good level of French pronunciation. I enjoy teaching on an individual basis as well as to groups of children or adults who all share the same goal to learn or improve French!!

I am a 41 year old mum of two boys (6 & 12yrs) and I am able to empathise with different approaches t o learning as required to suit the student. Sometimes, a more light-hearted approach may be needed to re-ignite the interest in learning a language and my experience in teaching children of various abilities at KS2 level enables me to do this with ease.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 7 years, I have been teaching French at several different primary schools (KS2) in Chester during curriculum time.

I have also been running my own successful lunchtime and after-school clubs as I am the Chester Licensee for Le Club Francais and El Club Espanol. These clubs cater for children 3-11years old.

At GCSE level, I have successfully raised the grades of many students and have a good knowledge of the AQA examination syllabus. I can offer assistance in the written assignments and can offer invaluable assistance in the preparation for oral examinations. I have a good understanding of French grammar which is an area I find many students struggle to understand.

At an adult level, I have taught complete beginners through to business people who need/want to learn or improve their French to assist with moving abroad. I find teaching adults to be especially enjoyable due to the enthusiasm shown which leads to fast results.

Tutoring Approach:

At our first meeting, I will assess your level and find out which areas in the French language (written, spoken, listening, reading) you find particularly challenging or especially want to improve in. I will also discuss with you ways that you particularly like to learn and the timescale you envisage our sessions to run for.

I am open and flexible in my approach and will make the sessions enjoyable for you. I will tailor my lessons each week according to your needs and prepare additional (home)work if requested to ensure continuity in our learning.

I hope I have shared with you enough information about my wide experience in teaching French at all levels to encourage you to contact me. I am passionate about learning French and would really like to share it with you too!

Personal Description:
Hello there,

I am a second year student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portsmouth.

I enjoy my course and like learning. I like tutoring and passing on skills to people that need it.

I am a really easy-going guy, who can adapt to many situations. I am not judgemental and love discovering new cultures.

I am patient, organized and observe really carefully the needs of my students.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to successful private tutoring, I tutored for more than a year at Miami Dade College in Florida, USA.

I am proud to ensure my future students that almost all of my previous students succeeded the course, test, exam that they hired me for.

Tutoring Approach:

As stated above, I am really patient and start from the view that anybody can succeed in the areas they need, as long as they have the basics they need.

I have no problem at all with covering material that is expected by academics to be mastered. Indeed, people are often ashamed of studying in a certain level at university/college where they do not understand "basics" that should have been covered in previous years. Rest assured that a lot of people are in this case, and that it is never too late (maybe not 24hrs before the exam;-)) to attack the problems one has in maths!

As my previous students told me, I will not go overboard with my explanations. I can really relate to the level of the person in front of me and adapt my tutoring session consequently.

Also, I am human, not a machine that knows everything. I hereby certify that I shall be honest to my student when I do not know how to solve a problem.

Personal Description:
I am 36 years old and a mum of two children (4 and 2). I have started giving tuitions when I first arrived in Bristol in 2001 and have not stopped since. I enjoy teaching and take a lot of pride when my students become fluent in French. Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a French assistant for L'ecole Francaise in 2001 and have worked with children, I am also working since 2005 for Cactus Languages and I am actually teaching adults as a self-employed teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

Originally from Paris, I specialise in teaching for the real world of today - fun, informal, slightly irreverent - but practical and above all useful! For your French to be used, you need to become comfortable speaking it, and so to help you develop that confidence I keep lessons flexible and enjoyable. Practicing everyday use in real conversational settings, I'll help you to challenge yourself and achieve your goals. You may not even notice that you're actually "working"!
Whatever your level is, I can help with your French for:

Personal Description:
My name is Aurélien, I am 22 years old and I am a French student currently attending the Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc at Imperial College (last year). I am from Supelec in France, which is one of the top ranked Engineering Schools there ("Grandes Ecoles") and I received my A-level degree with distinctions. I have extensive knowledge in French, Mathematics and Physics. My English is good even though I am still learning.

Teaching Experience:

On top of the fact that my studies provided me extensive knowledge in some fields, I managed to improve my oral skills in public too so that I have no problem to explain difficult notions in front of a public. I already have some experience in teaching since I have been a tutor for two years though the French program : A "Grande Ecole", why not for me? There, I prepared workshops and personal teaching sessions every week in order to help my student to improve their knowledge and their skill, but also to open themselves to the culture.

Tutoring Approach:

As far as I am concerned, I think that the approach to tutoring has to be adapted to every student. Each one has his own problems of methods and understanding so that we have to find together a good way to learn for him.
What I can provide : methods class, learning help, learning methods, direct applications, complex exercices to go further, test reviewing... and others.
I am totally able to adapt myself.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher, having a degree in French Studies from the University of Nottingham, plus additional qualifications in Business German and competence in Spanish. I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a PGCE teaching qualification in Modern Foreign Languages in 2012 and have been working as a teacher since then in a comprehensive secondary school in Nottinghamshire. I am a very keen linguist/language learner and I enjoy travelling widely in Europe and Worldwide. Before re-training as a Teacher, I worked for 10 years as a Personal Assistant and Administrator in a number of large international corporations.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching across all ages and key stages. I qualified as a teacher of Secondary Modern Foreign Languages with the University of Nottingham in 2012 and have been working full-time as a teacher of French ever since then. I have taught pupils aged from 11-18 years old in a fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary environment. During my PGCE studies, I taught in 2 different secondary schools - both fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary schools, but of different sizes, one with 2600 pupils, the other with just 600. I also have experience supporting in a primary school over 2 different placements and delivering French lessons there. During the summer between qualifying as a teacher and starting to work in a school in September, I worked in a summer school for 5 weeks, teaching English to French and Spanish teenagers and accompanying them on excursions and trips; I gained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification in 2009. Before training to be a teacher, I gained experience teaching adults working as a part-time volunteer teacher of Basic Skills and ESOL in the evenings at New College Nottingham and South Nottinghamshire College.

Tutoring Approach:

I am looking forward to tutoring pupils of all ages, from primary to adult learners of languages. I am able to adapt my approach and my tutoring to the needs and interests of the pupils, from preparation for GCSE and A-level, to business needs to holiday languages. I have a genuine passion for languages which I look forward to sharing.

Personal Description:
My name is Oliver and I am a 22-year-old student at the University of Warwick, where I study German & History joint honours. I have recently returned from my year abroad in Germany, where I studied not only German language and literature, but also history and French language at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I would describe myself as enthusiastic and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

Between January and June 2012 I volunteered through Warwick Volunteers at a school in Coventry, where I acted as a teaching assistant in a Year 8 French class. I furthermore tutored a then first-year student at the University of Warwick during this time period. She was interested in improving her German language from GCSE-level and so we met for an hour every week in the university library. During the lessons we not only focused on grammar, but also on texts which I provided to widen vocabulary and to understand sentence structure in a real context.

Tutoring Approach:

For me it is important that the tutoring can either be as relaxed or as focused as the student wants it to be. We all have our own individual ways of learning and retaining information, so it is key to understand best how the student learns when approaching a topic. It is also good when students think for themselves, rather than simply soaking up information, and so I tend to encourage this kind of self-sufficiency in learning. I encourage debate and get students to justifying their reasoning and thought, skills which are not only useful for the future but also are more engaging for students.

I am a friendly, approachable and reliable law student. I achieved straight As throughout high school and have a wide - ranging knowledge base. I also have my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards and now volunteer with my local dofe group so that I can give as many young people the opportunities that I gained through completing dofe. I volunteered for 5 weeks in Costa Rica in summer 2013 where I lived with local families and built a school.

Teaching Experience:

I volunteered in one of my local primary schools for one afternoon each week, where I taught French to the Primary 6 and 7 classes. I have taught dance to children aged 3-12 for the past 6 years and now work with the local youth theatre where I choreograph and help direct their shows.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very patient and find it easy to tune in to the student's needs. I can tell when a technique is not working for a student and can easily adapt to ensure that the student is learning in the way best suited to them. I am also extremely determined and will work with the student for as long as possible until they understand the topic and meet the aims of the lesson.

Personal Description:
My name is Milena, I am a 23yo French national. I moved to the UK four years ago to study. Before coming to Durham to do a Masters degree on Risk and Security, I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Lancaster University. Back in France, I attended an international school in Grenoble where I obtained a French international baccalaureate.

I have always been enthusiastic about learning languages: after eight years of studying Spanish, I am now learning Arabic. Getting to discover British culture through the prism of language was a genuinely exciting experience for me, so I hope I can help people on their journey to learn French!

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching both English and French. In France, I spent a summer teaching English to two kids (5 and 9). I also successfully prepared an 18 year old student for an English competitive examination. At Lancaster, I gave tuitions to a few students learning French casually or for their French degree (reference available on request).

Tutoring Approach:

The variety of my past teaching experiences made me understand that adaptability is key. Hence, I prefer meeting informally before tutoring, in order to assess the tutee's needs and desires. I know that learning the grammatical basis can be daunting, so I like to keep my tuitions varied with an introduction to French culture.

Personal Description:
I was brought up speaking Japanese, Cantonese and Hokkien at home but being born and brought up in England, English became my first language.
Despite growing up in a multilingual environment, I struggled with French, which I started at the age of 6 at school. Still, I chose it as a GCSE option alongside Spanish as a completely new language to me. I picked Spanish up instantly, which made me question why I was having such difficulty with French despite having 8 years more French formal education than Spanish. Pinpointing my particular challenges, I passed my exams with top grades at GCSE and at IB level and then
went on to studying both French and Spanish at University College London, where I graduated with a distinction in French.

Through self-study, I was able to identify my personal difficulties and come up with a strategy and learning technique to pass the exams and...to now learn a new language fairly easily! I am currently self-learning Portuguese, Italian and have just started Mandarin Chinese too.

Teaching Experience:

6 years experience in 1-to-1/group tuition from primary school level to adult learners. I am now taking private tuition on a full-time basis.

1.5 years experience in an English speaking nursery (1-5 years) in Japan + part-time English language classes to Japanese primary school pupils.

Experience in teaching English as a second language abroad in St Barths, France, Spain and Japan. As a multilingual myself, I can understand the difficulties faced when learning English as a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

I will first assess the needs of the tutee in order to design a personal course. From each class, I will take into consideration personal strengths, weaknesses and topics that are found particularly difficult in order to tailor my teaching methods and lesson plans accordingly.
With school students, I ask regularly for an update on topics and subjects covered in school to ensure my lessons remain relevant and to also tackle any problems that the student may be struggling with at school.
I have the student practise skills that are relevant to exams, hone in on these skill sets and then practise exam papers in the running to the exam period to get familiar and comfortable with the kind of questions and layout the student will face.

Aside from that, I strive to keep my classes fun, engaging and relevant.
