Personal Description:
I am a clear communicator with a passion for learning. I have a firm grasp of the English language and film studies gained through academic studies, and a working knowledge of the media gained from research posts in television broadcasting.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my five years in academia, I have regularly given presentations, led seminars and participated in question and answer sessions. I have worked with 11-14 year olds in a voluntary reading support programme. I have a young daughter whom I constantly encourage in her reading and language skills.

Tutoring Approach:

One should always have a clear objective with every lesson, beginning with material which sparks debate, then working through the material encouraging the student to bring out the key points, with prompting if necessary. Then, together, the student and tutor build a summary of what has been discovered. The first half of a lesson should always be engaging and thought-provoking. One should always encourage students to question and think for themselves, and take an imaginative approach. The second half should involve the student bringing together what they have learnt in a clear summary.

Personal Description:
I am a writer and a recent Masters graduate from the Central School of Speech and Drama, where I earned a distinction. As a professional in theatre, I am knowledgeable and passionate about english, literature, drama, film and media and I really enjoy communicating that passion to others. I am a friendly and open person and I am always keen to learn and discover new things too.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide variety of experience working in schools and summer schools as a drama/english and media tutor and have worked with children and young adults from 5 to 15 years old. I have worked as a workshop leader at Hartcliffe College as part of the 'Aim Higher' tutoring scheme where I taught Shakespeare and I was a trained peer educator prior to university, working with young adults on a variety of issues from drug use to anti-bullying work.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe the best way to learn is in a relaxed atmosphere where it is ok to make mistakes and having fun while learning is actively encouraged. Learning shouldn't be a chore and I enjoy the challenge of making material engaging and accessible no matter what your age or ability level. Having recently been through the higher education system to post-graduate level, I understand the pressures of exams and essay deadlines but with the right strategies and a bit of help these things needn't be so stressful!

Personal Description:
I am a hard working and dedicated person whom strives to be the best at whatever I embark upon, I believe firmly that if something is worth doing, it should be done properly the first time with no room for second standard work.

I pride myself in being a punctual, determined and organized individual who manages her time effectively to ensure that my work is of the best, and as I take such care to produce good quality work I find time to unwind with a good book or movie to inspire me to keep up the standards.

I expect all my students to put in the hard work and i promis them that i will give them my all to help them succeed

Teaching Experience:

I am currently studying my MEd in Education at Bolton University, I have been working at Oldham College and am currently a supply teacher, gaining experience in the Further Education and secondary school sectors. The time I spent at Oldham College and at various places as a supply teacher has given me a wide insight to the types of typical classroom situations that I may face during my career and everyday provides another challenge and scenario to overcome. I feel that I have gained valuable experience and wish to continue on my journey of teaching both ICT and Multimedia.

I have dealt with a range of difficult students from autistic through to deaf and mentally handicapt students, many of my students have overcome personal and mental problems to enable them to fulfill their studies.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is modern and fun, i have a firm ideology that students learn best when they are interested and entertained by their subject. I provide a series of practical tasks for them to complete rather than focusing on the purely theoretical side of the subject.

Personal Description:
I studied film history at school and university. I have nine GCSEs, two A-levels and a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma in English Literature from The Open University: I know how important it is to be self-motivated in order to achieve academic success. I also have a certificate to teach English as a Second Language, from TEFL International in Rome, Italy.

Teaching Experience:

I have four years experience within the primary school setting and nearly five years as a TESOL teacher to students of all ages, nationalities and abilities. I am experienced in tutoring numeracy SATS to KS2 and maths to KS3, English to KS3 and ESL to all ages and abilities for all purposes including FCE and CAE exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I was a primary teaching assistant for nearly three years, in which time I successfully integrated a child on the autistic spectrum into mainstream, worked with ADHD and general behavioural children, taught small groups and whole classes, supported the ICT network and taught ESL to the foreign child in the school, a beginner to English. Now, I am an ESL teacher, with five years experience, specializing in young learners up to university-entry level but with experience of teaching all ages. I studied for my degree and English literature diploma with The Open University whilst teaching, and one of my A levels is in Film Studies, one of my GCSEs in German. I'm fun, imaginative and professional, understand the needs of the students and ensure my lessons match them. I teach in a way that is understood by the student, so as to make learning enjoyable and progress fast and long-lasting.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate of the University of Sussex where I studied History with electives in film studies. My final year also had a particular focus of literature and philosophy.
I have recently moved back to the Cambridge area and am currently saving money in order to move abroad and teach English as a foreign language.
I would describe myself as friendly, confident, organized and patient. All characteristics which I would argue are very helpful to tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at college I took part in a tutoring scheme in the upper sixth, where more experienced second years could impart techniques and tips to first years as well as help with more specific problems and queries.
I have recently had the opportunity to observe teaching at a local language school in Cambridge, in preparation for teaching abroad.
During my final year at University I participated in revision and dissertation workshops where groups of students take it upon themselves to get together and help each other through with advise, as well as direct help such as proof reading.

Tutoring Approach:

I would take a very student based approach to tutoring, beginning with assessing each tutees particular strengths and weaknesses, as well as trying to asses how to get the best results out of them, as it is quite often the case that each individual has a different way of learning. Then working from the demands of the curriculum I would feed off my own experience and knowledge of the system to help the tutee achieve the best possible results.

Personal Description:
i am very friendly and motivated young girl, i have a long experience with children and have good relationship with them. i am someone you can trust, and rely on.

Teaching Experience:

i have just spent one year teaching as a french teacher assistant in a school in Cardiff, and have been accepted for the teacher training next year, so i have a good experience of teaching, and i am able to give a student what he or she need to improve the subject studied.

Tutoring Approach:

i consider that few hours of tutoring are not a magical remedy to everything, a part of personal work is necessary. tutoring is very helpful, since it's a one to one " lesson" it helps the student to learn at his or her pace, and to ask questions whenever he or she needs to.

Personal Description:
I am a focused, creative teacher always looking for new ways to encourage students to get involved and understand. I am enthusiastic about the subject and enjoy openly exploring texts and experiences with an aim to share that enthusiasm. I thrive on the challenge of meaning and understanding and have often stepped "out of the box" to teach to ensure that students get the most out of their experiences of learning. My teaching styles have been called "lively", "different", and "exciting" which leads me to feel that I have certainly got something right.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 6 years at mainstream schools with all levels of abilities and challenging behaviour. I have taken groups through their GCSE to their success, become acting second in department, Literacy Coordinator for the school and Emotional Intelligence development officer. I have been responsible for KS3 schemes of work and their delivery throughout the department and pride myself on producing dynamic, focused and enjoyable learning experiences with enough opportunity for personal expression to take its place both in the learning and the teaching. I have also taught Film Studies, Media Studies and English to A-level, not to mention working for three years with Stagecoach in the Drama discipline which helped me focus my abilities in a more kinaesthetic format.
As a tutor, I am experienced in teaching English as a foreign or new language, elocution for those that would like to improve their accent and expression and adult education support helping develop study skills, reading and analysis.

Tutoring Approach:

I am excited at the opportunity to explore tutoring as a different aspect of teaching because different strategies are needed in these kinds of conditions. I consider it as a furthering of my experience and enjoy the challenges that I face.

Personal Description:
I was born in Cardiff in 1965. I attended high school in the capital city, and left to travel the world in the late 1980s. I attended the University of Nottingham as an undergraduate in 1994 and focused on the subject areas of History, Literature, Critical Theory, Art History, and Native American Studies. I graduated from Nottingham with a 2:1 Sing. Hons. in July 1997. I then left the UK for the US and remained overseas for 11 years. In May 1999, I received an MA from the University of Wyoming at Laramie (American Studies Dept) where I specialized in History, Literature, and Film Studies. In October 1999, after graduating from the University of Wyoming, I was accepted onto a part-time PhD program at the University of Nottingham American Studies Dept. My doctoral thesis, available at the British Library, examines the importance of visuality on constructions of the urban landscape. My specialist field is Visual Culture, however, my thesis also encompasses the subject areas of History, Literature, and Film Studies. I received my PhD in July 2007. In order to fund my doctoral research, I taught History at a private university in eastern Iowa -- St. Ambrose University (see teaching experience). In addition, during this period, I also worked as an Item Writer for ACT. This job entailed developing and writing high school examination questions in the fields of English Literature, History, and Political Science. I received my PhD in July 2007 at which point I moved to New York City and worked for six months as a writer for a multinational marketing company. I relocated to the UK in July 2008.

Teaching Experience:

I have a strong commitment to teaching as well as several years of experience. My earliest teaching experience dates back to 1997 when I was a teaching assistant whilst completing my Masters degree at the University of Wyoming. From August 1997 to May 1999 I taught an introduction to American Studies course which focused primarily on aspects of American history through the lens of film, television, and literature. Upon completing my Masters degree in 1999, I was accepted to the University of Nottingham's American Studies PhD program (part-time). Here, during my first year, I assisted in the teaching of a Twentieth Century American Cultural History module (under Prof. Margaret Walsh - see referee), heading seminar groups of between 12 and 15 undergraduate students. In 2000, I moved to the United States and took a part-time position at St. Ambrose University, Iowa. From 2000 to 2007 I lectured and headed seminars on an undergraduate degree course in Social and Cultural History (a course that I developed in its entirety).

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching philosophy involves encouraging students to engage in subject matter as closely as possible: to explore topics in ways that seek to establish accessible contexts and clearer understandings. I firmly believe that by contextualizing a subject, a student can grasp its meaning far more readily. I also believe in completely open dialogue between student and teacher. In my experience, developing this kind of professional "openness" makes for productive and effective learning. Rather than simply learning subjects "parrot-fashion," I actively encourage students to work around topics: to discuss themes and issues and to ask questions of them. I have found that this approach is extremely effective not only in allowing students to take on board quite complex concepts, but also in developing and nurturing their analytical skills. This method of teaching I have found to be crucial in allowing students better and more clear understandings of a given subject, and is particularly useful if a student is preparing for the step up to university level learning. My teaching record over the past nine years has been exemplary. Student and faculty evaluations are available upon request.

Personal Description:
I am currently a doctoral researcher undertaking my PhD at The University of Glasgow, a personal tutor, a proof reader, a note taker and a support worker for various universities and agencies.

I also hold a BA (Hons) undergraduate degree and an MLitt (Master of Letters) postgraduate degree. I am a qualified personal tutor in 15 subject areas and am rated a 10/10 tutor by Alpha Tutors. I also do some freelance writing and have contributed numerous articles to the website Helium, most of which are voted number one in their category, I have also had several articles published in society newsletters and publications, including The International Crosby Circle and The Sinatra Music Society. I have organised an international conference, a departmental postgraduate symposium and presented papers at both events.

Teaching Experience:

I work as a Top-Up Tutor for the University of Glasgow where I go to different schools and prepare S5 and S6 students for university; as a Proof Reader, Note Taker and Support Worker for disabled students at the University of the West of Scotland and am a freelance personal on-line and off-line tutor qualified in 15 subject areas including English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, and General Writing Skills. I work via Alpha Tutors, UK Tutors, Tutors4Kids and Fleet Tutors and teach from pre-exam age to Standard Grade, Higher, GCSE, A-Level, University level and Adult Learners. I have been tutoring since August 2007 and have chalked up around 400 tutoring hours in these subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on)

Personal Description:
I am currently in the second year of my doctorate in Film and Telvision at Glasgow University. Although my key interest is Film and Television, I am also well-versed in Philosophy, being able to teach both continental and analytic traditions owing to my previous study to honours level in the subject.

I have an enthusiastic work ethic and many non-academic interests including running, cinema-going and reading. I also have a strong passion for music production.

I'm a relaxed and confident tutor who is able to teach many levels of competence.

Teaching Experience:

I have experienced tutoring level 2 undergraduates in my Department, as well as having spoken at conferences and symposia.

The University's Disability Support scheme has also provided me with an excellent opportunity to teach students on a one to one basis and to rise to the challenge of teaching students in difficult circumstances or with special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't think a singular approach works as each student has his own individual needs, however I do feel in general that detailed reading, analysis and critical thinking should be the basis for nearly all successful sessions.

My approach is both personal and professional tailored to the needs of each student but always keeping sight of the goal at hand.
