| Personal Description: I am an English graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, where I achieved a BA (Hons) 2:i. I also studied for my teacher training at Wolverhampton, focussing on English and maths. In my spare time I am a writer, and I am currently working on several pieces of work ready for publication. I also intend to become a part time PhD student in September, researching the impact of dialect and accent. |
Teaching Experience: I qualified as a teacher in 2009. I worked at Sutton Coldfield College for a year in the Basic Skills department, working with both 16-19 year olds, and also adult students. My work varied from teaching large groups to one on one support. When my training was complete, I began working for myself, teaching all ages and ability, as a personal tutor. I have worked with over thirty children both in my own and their homes. I also worked for OCR as an examiner from 2007-2009 |
Tutoring Approach: I offer a student centred approach to tutoring. I complete a diagnostic assessment at the start of any course of tutoring, and then produce an Individual Learning Plan in order to best tutor the pupil. I am friendly and approachable, and ensure that students find my sessions challenging but interesting. I maintain online contact with my students at all times, and make them aware that if they ever have any problems with or questions about the work that I set, they are free to contact me. I am a firm believer that if a student finds a subject enjoyable, then they are more successful. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying Dentistry at University of Birmingham. I have completed my GCSE'S and A level's at King Edward Camp Hill Boys. At A level I obtained 3 A's in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I enjoy relaxing in my spare time by drawing. I participate in many sporting activities such as football, cricket, rugby and athletics. I also aid in local charity events such as the solihull bikeathon/ walkathon. |
Teaching Experience: I have extensive experience working as a tutor mentoring children for their entrance examinations. I helped Students at my Mothers tutoring service as well as my younger sibling. At King Edwards Camp Hill School for boys I tutored students who were preparing fro GCSE'S as well as A levels. Mentoring was a very rewarding scheme as it involved me helping underachieving pupils raise their grades. |
Tutoring Approach: Each pupil will be treated individually depending upon their needs. I have a very structured approach to learning and have very high expectations of my pupils. I shall use the students appropriate curriculum to help them go through each topic and then using past papers I shall test them on each topic. I Shall then discuss with them where they could improve and help them understand where they went wrong. This is a vigorous method but a successful one too. |

| Personal Description: I am a mother of 4 children, I have also worked professionally with children for over ten years. I worked and studied part-time for several years and I have a degree in childhood studies, a foundation degree in Early Years and Education, a University certificate in Health and Social Care and I have Qualified teacher status and an enhanced CRB check. I am currently studying for my masters degree in education. As a parent I have experienced helping my own children ( aged 7 - 15) with their homework, revision for SATs, and also revision for 11+ exams. In addition to this, two of my own children have specific learning difficulties so I am aware of strategies to use to support children with special needs. |
Teaching Experience: Professionally I was initially a teaching support assistant, where I worked with both groups and individual children from year 1 to year 6 supporting them with different aspects of the curriculum. This included working with children with special educational needs. I then qualified as a teacher and I have taught all age groups from year 1 through to year 6. This has meant that I have taught all curriculum subjects at a variety of levels over the past few years. I work in an inner city school, and so have extensive experience of supporting children who have English as an additional language. In addition to this I have experience of teaching and tutoring children with autism and a variety of learning difficuties. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a calm and flexible approach to tutoring. I believe that a tutoring approach has to be child specific. Due to this I always take into account; where the child is currently academically, what the child's preferred learning style is, the child's strengths and weaknesses, and also their personality before I make any decisions on my specific approach. |

| Personal Description: I am a very enthusiastic, smart, dynamic and young 37-year old (?!) who is a great believer in second (and third- or fourth) chances for everyone. I love travelling, also photography- combining the two when I can- so I enjoy the busy school holidays; I like local art, specifically that by the Pre-Raphaelites, and take some convincing over the effectiveness of Damien Hirst as an artist! |
Teaching Experience: I am currently employed by Birmingham City Council as a member of their Adult Education team; I have also enjoyed teaching, covering and exam invigilating at two of the city's grammar schools. I have successfully completed OfSTED inspections three occasions running. My CRB Enhanced Declarartion and also my Council ID Card are available should prospective parents and tutees wish to see them. |
Tutoring Approach: I am innovative in my work, thinking on my feet and apply all topics discussed in sessions to the students' current curriculum level: I am trained as a teacher and as such am familiar with both primary, secondary and adult curricula. I believe in helping every student when their teacher hasn't got the time; no question is a silly one and you can ask me anything to do with the subject. I provide all my own materials and only ever expect students to provide their own paper and pens. I am committed to students' positive educational experience and try to stress the relevance of each topic we look at with every learner. |

| Personal Description: I am a 3rd year Masters of Mathematics student at the University of Warwick. I have many years experience of tutoring students of various ages. Because of my young age, you will find that my fees are relatively small in comparison to other tutors, although I believe my young age is actually a positive. It means that I know the current GCSE and A Level syllabuses better than other tutors, and I am also able to identify with the learning needs of the student more effectively than older tutors will. After completing my Mathematics degree, I hope to go on to study Medicine at the University of Oxford, having achieved the correct prerequisites to do so. I am also a member of Mensa. I have also tutored many individuals of who have went on to study in Oxbridge. My science background allows me to tutor Chemistry, Physics, aswell as Mathematics. I also offer emergency tutoring for students preparing for exams in the very near future. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Location: I am open for suggestions from you about where the sessions will be done. My main aim is to tutor at a place that you feel comfortable with, whether that be in your own home, at a library, or even a classroom. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ |
Teaching Experience: I have taught classes of up to 15 students at a time teaching GCSE up to A Level. I did this for a period of 2 years. I have also tutored mathematics 1:1 to both GCSE and A Level students. Some of my students have went on to Oxford and Cambridge universities. |
Tutoring Approach: I cater for all abilities, and ensure that each student fulfills their maximum potential. Lessons are fairly relaxed and informal while always focussing on a thorough understanding rather than 'robotic memorising techniques'. Of course every student is different and from my experience of tutoring, I am able to tailor to the individual needs of each student and their learning techniques. My approach has already been shown to work, and I am proud of where my past students have ended up. About the Lessons: The lessons will be very challenging but they will also be fun and engaging. We will work through problem sheets together and new problem sheets will be set each week for the student to complete which will serve to complement their school/college work. This is not to say that the lessons will not be relaxed. I believe that top grades and a positive atmosphere to learning actually go hand-in-hand and therefore, the lessons, while being extremely efficient, will be informal at the same time. |

| Personal Description: I am a second year Psychology student at the University of York. I am an open-minded, patient and highly motivated person with some experiences in tutoring. I am Japanese, so my native language is Japanese, but I am also fluent in English. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught English (as a foreign language), Mathes and Japanese before. I also helped some students get accustomed to entrance exam situations. People whom I taught these subjects varied from six years old to 65 years old. |
Tutoring Approach: I always try to keep in mind how I learned what I am teaching and what I struggled with when I studied what I am teaching. Looking through students' eyes often helps me understand better ways to teach and also makes the sessions more enjoyable. I would like the students to not only study and memorise facts but actually learn for themselves. So I will try to make sure that I explain things properly until the student understand. I may take different approach depending on the student's character, motivation and understanding. |

| Personal Description: My name is Amanda and I am 22 years old. I have recently completed a BA degree with honours from Cambridge University. Whilst I have focused on history for the past three years my interests are much wider and cover literature, art, travel, languages, politics and philosophy. I hope to teach history at university level in the future. I am currently working for a social innovation think tank and spend the other half of my time tutoring. |
Teaching Experience: I have voluntarily helped children between the ages of 10-18 with homework and exam preparation. I have also worked on summer camps and in a community drop-in centre. Because I have recently been through the exam and university entrance system, with high results throughout, I know what they want from students and I know the techniques and skills that are necessary to do well. I have also been tutored by Oxbridge academics throughout my education and can use the most positive aspects of my experiences to take into the classroom. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the most important thing when tutoring is tailoring my services to the needs, abilities, strengths and weaknesses of my students. I try to work out how they learn best - be that with pencil and pen, images, audio, role-play, video, games - and harness those techniques. In doing so I am able to make lessons fun and varied and to thus inspire a sense of passion and interest for the subject. As a Cambridge student I found that the tutorial system provides this personal and passionate approach, surely two of the most important attitudes to take into any educational programme. |

| Personal Description: Currently, I am studying Law with American Legal systems at the UEA in Norwich. I believe I am fun to be around and find I make friends easily. In my chosen subject area, I achieved A grade in both English subjects (Lit & Lang), History and P.E at G.C.S.E, as well as A's in Eng lang, History & P.E at A-level. In terms of the self defense training I can offer, I have a 1st Dan (Black belt) in Shotokan karate and have been practicing this for 8 years now. I enjoy karate as it requires discipline and focus and is something that I can dedicate time and effort to whilst also improving myself as a person. Learning a martial art also can help improve self-confidence. I am able to teach a variety of practical self defence techniques for use against single or multiple attackers and can adapt the practices taught in Karate to almost any situation. I consider myself patient and understanding, I have no problem spending as long as is necessary to get to grips with difficult subject material. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored in English Language now for several months. At my previous grammar school I helped with 'afterschool homework club' and also assisted my mother for several years on free afternoons at the Primary school she taught at. I have also coached Hockey at club level and Karate up to Black belt standard, so have a range of experience in 'teaching' roles. |
Tutoring Approach: I find that patience and dedication go a long way when it comes to learning any subject to a high level. I am happy to spend as long as possible on any topic revising and finding ways to make it easily digestable and understandable. I have also attended several study skill lectures at University . I am flexible in my teaching methods and have found that often it is just finding the right formula for learning to apply to any form of education, once you have the right method the rest is easy. Being a young person myself, I have found it is easier to relate to the students I teach. Having recently gone through the stress of A-levels and the university procedure myself, I can understand first hand the need to do well at school and the pressures placed on you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask! |
