Personal Description:
I am a very keen and enthusiastic university student and love to help others learn. I specialize with children and young adults. I am a good role model as I am bubbly, show confidence and balance my studying (Business Degree at Northumbria University) with my sports (rock climbing and snowboarding), work and social life.

I have a range of experience in childcare and tuition and find different ways for my pupils to understand the materials they are learning. I find ways in which they can relate to the information which helps them retain the information for longer.
I have had several years of experience with private tutoring producing great results such as a B at A level Business Studies (please ask if you would like a reference). I will be finishing my final year of studies mid May 2013 and will be available to teach from this time onward.

Teaching Experience:

All throughout my first and second year at university I was working at Explore Learning, a Maths and English tuition center designed to help children with their national curriculum between the ages of 5 and 14. This has given me valuable experience on many different teaching techniques as well as keeping up to date with the new learning strategies that children are using in their day to day learning at school.
My one on one tutoring experience ranges from A Level Business Students to Primary Maths and English including other topics such as Current affairs.
On a sporting level, I gained my Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors qualification in 2009 and have continued to teach snowboarding over in Italy with Interski in my university holidays.

Quote from a reference: 'Rabia will definitely miss your cheery and happy persona. She has had other tutors but with nowhere near the enthusiasm and effort that you put in! She looks forward to you coming and has a real connection with you.'

Tutoring Approach:

I have many different approaches to learning, dependant on the age of the pupil. I like to use targets and rewards to keep motivation levels high and learning is fun by relating the subject to my tutee's everyday life. I ensure there are several reviews and assessments to enhance progression and keep on track.

Personal Description:
I am 24 years old and graduated in 2011 from the University of Oxford (Brasenose College), with a degree in Experimental Psychology. I'm very interested in science and this enthusiasm comes across when encouraging others to find it interesting, too. Making science fun and easy to understand is something I very much enjoy.

Besides this I have four A-grade A-levels in European languages, and spent a year at an international company where I spoke fluent French, Dutch and German on a daily basis. I have always enjoyed learning languages, and believe that learning a language need not necessarily be difficult if approached in the right way.

I am due to begin training as a solicitor next year.

Teaching Experience:

I have varied teaching experience. I spent three months in the summer of 2014 as a youth development professional at a summer camp in Vermont, in the USA. I led activities and 5-day trips into the wilderness, working with 8-16 year olds and being responsible for every aspect of their well-being.

I have been a tutor for two years now and really enjoy supporting learning in different ways depending on what exactly is required. I've taught Psychology, English, Biology, Chemistry and French and look forward to teaching German, too.

Tutoring Approach:

I realise that everyone is an individual, and to me this is the key point about teaching - which I why I vary my approach, explaining things in different ways and encouraging questions until the level of understanding required is reached.

I am very keen to ensure that my tutees develop their understanding, which is why I try to push their existing knowledge further by asking questions, rather than telling them the answer.

I work hard and prepare well for everything I do, and I'd welcome any further discussion on specific details.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I have a recent MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I gained straight Firsts in every module I studied. I also have a good Fine Art degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. I have nearly completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I have been a private tutor for ten years, and have taught many children in that time.

I'm a 38 year old married lady, and am an aunt and godmother to several children.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at undergraduate level at university as well as writing skills in an academic skills centre. I have also taught SATs to thirteen year olds. I have a PTTLs degree level 4 qualification and teach on an Access Course to adult learners. I have been a private tutor for ten years, and have taught many children in that time. For GCSE, I have a 75 per cent success rate of my students achieving As and A*s. My other students, whose first language may not be English, achieve Bs.

I have taught AQA, OCR and EDEXCEL syllabuses at GCSE and AQA at A-Level.

Please note that I do not teach any Eleven-Plus or verbal reasoning syllabuses and that I prefer to teach older children (13 plus)

Tutoring Approach:

I use creative writing exercises with my students to allow them to develop their writing skills, as well as their creativity and imagination. This approach has been very successful with my SATs pupils. I also use past exam papers, model essays, and devote time and attention to close reading of set texts at GCSE and A-Level. I have also recently branched out into giving art lessons and I help out at an arts and crafts club at the local school.

I have a friendly, professional approach and find I develop a real rapport with my pupils, who find their results and confidence improving with my tutelage.

Personal Description:
Recently returned to the UK to live near my family after teaching abroad for many years. I have 2 teenagers who no longer need my constant attention. I enjoy speaking other languages and love teaching, especially one to one teaching, where I can focus all my attention on the individual.

Teaching Experience:

1976-1987 EFL teaching in the UK and abroad. 6th form, secondary and adult. Also some ESL and home teaching.

1988- 2008. Primary teaching 3-12 year olds. I am trained in Early Years teaching. For 9 years I was the English Language Support coordinator in a large international school. My responsibilities included assessing children's needs, planning and teaching English as an additional language throughout the Infant and Junior school, improving reading skills and helping train other staff in the above. I have regularly tutored individuals and small groups of children after school.
I have recently completed a course in "Big Writing" with Ros Wilson of Andrell Education, focusing on improving writing skills from KS1 to KS3

2009- present. Nursery teacher and part time Modern languages/ Supply teacher in KS2

Tutoring Approach:

Each person's needs are different and my first job is to develop a trusting relationship so that I can quickly assess the priorities. Building confidence in prior knowledge comes next. It's important to pace the lesson so that there is just enough pressure but no stress. I like to work on all 4 skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) whatever the goal of the class, and to that end use a variety of resources; books, cards, games, music, computer. I am a very good listener and have unlimited patience. I constantly make students aware of the progress they are making which builds confidence and speeds up learning. I set very high but reachable standards.

Personal Description:
Wednesday 24th Sept 2014

Taught a 'new' pupil - GCSE level - for the first time last night in the big city of Sheffield. Fantastic to get home to an email from mum."------ was thrilled with the lesson, and I am too." This is why I tutor students, Not to turn up and get paid, but to make history easier to understand, simpler to write about, to take the high drama and trauma out of exam taking, to spread the word about a subject that has become a huge part of my life now, now I'm studying for a PhD.

Hi, folks,

Now to some duller stuff.

Some very gratifying successes this August: 90%+ across 3 taken History exams w/ one student: C at AS Summer 2013: 6 ums marks off an A*, Summer 2014. WOW! This is what happens when student and tutor work in harmony, and when the student is really hungry to learn and improve. Also, AS ECONOMICS! My first AS level Economics teaching, taking on a student "who has given up" according to his teachers, on course for a U. We worked on one of the two modules for just 4 weeks: grade D achieved in the exam. This is what happens when the student trusts the tutor's optimism and follows advice.

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France and Russia. Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leapt forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Because of the success rate and personal enjoyment that I obtain from private tuition, I have been able to reduce my full time post of English teaching, and I now enjoy working part time. Because of this, I am very flexible with working hours and can usually fit around the days and times that you require.

I am trust worthy, honest and passionate about my job. I know that I possess a skill in teaching English to an incredibly high standard, and I enjoy making a difference to young people's lives.

I am a family man, with a wonderful son and another on the way! Because of the pivotal part that my family play in my life, it has enhanced my understanding of just what an important job it is that I do for other families, when they look to ensure that their children have the best start to life. I therefore take this role incredibly seriously, and do everything to ensure that success is gained.

Teaching Experience:

Perhaps the most important factor that any parent should be interested in is not the experience of the teacher, but how good they are now, and how good they will be for their child. The most prominent factor that will indicate this is the rating that a teacher is given. Currently, I consistently achieve a classification of 'outstanding', which is the most sought after rating that a teacher can aim for.

I have held the post of Head of English at my current school, and I have led a team of exceptional English teachers. Having held other management positions in other schools as well, with management focus on both key Stage 3 and 4, I have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge that I can now put to good use within the sphere of personal tuition.

I am also an experienced examiner, having marked for a leading exam body for five years now. This has helped me enormously to build up a very clear understanding of what exam boards require from students.

Last year's results saw a continuation of my fine record of exam success, where my class achieved 100% A-C in their GCSE examinations. My current year 11 class are predicted to have 5 A*'s, 10 A grades and fifteen B grades. This will be the finest set of English class results in the school's history.

I have built up tremendously successful working relationship with my clients, and parents who I currently work for, and worked for, have happily created testimonials for me which I would be able to provide for your perusal upon request.

Tutoring Approach:

My largest concern for my students is to make sure that their confidence is built up by becoming pro-active and independent learners. All too often tutors 'spoon-feed' their students, leading them to a false sense of security in their skills, which therefore leads to poor performance in examinations.

Any fruitful approach to tutoring must ensure that the assessment objectives are catered for in tutoring. Every exam board and every exam has certain assessment objectives that must be met if students are to be successful. As engaging and as fun as I try to make my sessions, I am well aware of the crucial need to fundamentally ensure that these assessment objectives are covered.

Personal Description:
I have a broad knowledge of texts, and am well qualified to meet the curricular needs of any pupil. I have marked Standard Grade folio and Higher Critical essay for the SQA for many years, and Higher Folio for the last 4 years, so am well versed in expected pupil standards.
I would also like to say, at this point, that the reason I prefer pupils to come to my home is because I do not drive and I have lots of materials at home.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English at all levels, from 1st-6th years, for 22 years.
I have also been tutoring for 10/11 years and in last years (2013) exams I saw all my tutees pass Higher despite some of them only coming to me after having failed their Prelim. All were ecstatic with their result and phoned to inform, and thank,me. This years results have been astounding as of my 8 tutees, 7 got A passes and one got a B. All came for the majority of the year and none were certainties for an A. Indeed 3 were struggling but worked extremely hard and got well deserved A's.

As well as new pupils for Higher last session ( 13/14) I also had several returning pupils,or siblings, from last year as my services as a tutor have been retained to now take them through the transition from Standard Grade/Int.2 to Higher. This has been a trend for me as tutees have always been happy with the lessons and my efforts in making them feel comfortable.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a well experienced tutor on a 1 to 1 and group basis. I have tutored at all Secondary levels and will support, and supplement, the teaching materials already provided by the pupils' schools. I will look over, and grade, work done by pupils in school and that set by me. In general, I will identify a pupils weakest areas and we will work hard on improving on that whilst "fine tuning" other areas.
As of the new Academic year 2014/15 National 5 and New Higher students will be catered for and I, myself, will be teaching it to my 4th and 5th year students. This will be a very challenging year for S4 as a lot has to be done in a shorter time as year 4, generally have 1 or 2 less teaching periods than year 5/6 yet they have the same work to cover. In addition they have more exams and work experience to cope with. An early start at this would be advised in order to get into folio as soon as possible.

I am a BA (Hons) Education Studies Graduate (University of Derby) and I am applying for this position to help me support myself and to enable me to gain further experience and insight into the world of private tuition and to progress further professionally. I have completed a vast amount of work experience in the past and worked with a variety of different types of people and I feel that having had this exposure, I can relate well to people at all levels, and that I have good communication skills and a constructive approach to learning and improving my abilities. I consider myself to be loyal and reliable and believe my enthusiasm to work will make me a valuable asset to the work place. I have now completed the Masters in Education (Special Needs Pathway) I am looking forward to share my knowledge and teaching experience with those that require the help.

Teaching Experience:

Private Tuition - Started September 2011.
I am currently tutoring numerous students, covering key stages 1, 2, 3 and 4

School Experience:
Dale Primary School October 2010 - December 2011
I spent time working alongside young children between the ages of 9 to 11. I circulated between the different ability groups, within the classroom, in order to develop an understanding of the different requirements that needed to be met and to gain an understanding of the needs of each individual within the classroom. I undertook small tasks such as talking to children individually about their work and listening to them read as well as marking work

Mickleover Primary School January 2009 - February 2010
I spent time working alongside children between the ages of 7 to 9. I worked with several different ability areas, working with them in a group and also individually and I was able to gain a great insight into the requirements of different children and the flexibility needed within the classroom. I also gained some experience in learning how to plan a lesson and some experience with having direct input within the classroom. I had various other jobs such as listening to children read, sorting out and marking homework and classwork and photocopying work for distribution.

Tutoring Approach:

I work very closely to the curriculum and have an unlimited use of resources for English, Maths and Science at Key Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4 (GCSE). I implement a variety of timed activities to monitor progress and establish focus points. Personal Description:
I am a graduate of the University of Glasgow, holding a First Class MA in English Literature and Film and Television Studies. In addition to my degree, I was also awarded the Robert W. Service Prize and the James Boswell Bursary, both granted for academic excellence.
In addition to my academic achievements, I am also a widely published author of novels and short stories, with books available in all good bookshops. In keeping with my passion for film and television, I am a photographer, filmmaker and live performer, and write articles on media developments in Scotland for print and online publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' experience teaching English, Film & TV, Media and reading and writing skills to pupils of all ages and backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to keep pupils engaged with and interested in the subject at hand, as too often it is far too easy to alienate students with excessive rote and routine. I am also a great believer in treating each of my students as an individual, as opposed to adopting a "one-size-fits-all" approach dependent solely on set texts and a given curriculum. Whilst bearing these restrictions and final examinations in mind, I can help students to think laterally and imaginatively, hopefully concluding their studies without having developed a loathing for the subject in question!
I really enjoy teaching: I am passionate about giving something back from my own learning experiences and hope I can be of some help to those who may need a bit of extra guidance.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate student from Canterbury Christ Church University, where I achieved a BSc (Hons) 1 in psychology. I am very friendly and approachable, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching, as it is such a rewarding experience to see students gain confidence and excel. I have a real passion for psychology and english, which I believe shows when I am teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a tutor for the past two years, and have been very proud to see my students accomplish their goals. I have previously tutored both AQA and OCR psychology A-levels, as well as GCSE English and an access to higher education diploma. Past achievements include raising a students grade from a predicted D to a B, helping a student achieve 95% in an exam as well as distinction for their coursework, and helping a student pass their functional skills English exam. I have also been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to home-school a pupil in AS-level psychology.

Before I began tutoring, I spent a year teaching weekly psychology seminars of up to twenty students while studying for my degree. During this time I helped students with essays, reports and exams by creating learning resources such as APA referencing and revision guides and report templates for them to use as resources when writing their own pieces of work. I also taught students several study skills, such as how to structure paragraphs using the 'funnel' technique, how to introduce evidence and references into an answer, and by addressing tutor feedback on past assignments. I also ran workshops on qualitative and quantitative research methods, where I would create graphs and flowcharts to help students simplify the process of analyzing data. I thoroughly enjoyed this role, and I was very proud to see so many of my students achieving 2.1's and 1st's as their final grade for the year. In the year prior to this, I was a student ambassador, where I frequently taught English to GCSE level students, as well as arranging other educational activities such as problem solving exercises.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiastic and friendly approach to teaching. I believe that the key to learning is to create a relaxed atmosphere where the student can learn at a pace they are comfortable with. I tailor my approach to each individual, as every student has a preferred learning method. I engage students by making the session interesting and interactive, so that the student feels motivated to learn and succeed. I also help the student to gain confidence when revising for exams, or approaching essays, reports or statistical analysis.

Personal Description:
I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I very quickly realised that I could do a better job and took the role in house, initially teaching my own daughters before extending out to their friends.
To date I have tutored over 50 children who have gone onto their chosen schools and streams. I believe that tutoring should be about delivering skills to children that they can carry with them throughout their young lives and provide a solid platform on which to develop.

Teaching Experience:

Have tutored key stage 2 and 3.
11 plus students and common entrance applicants.
Recently started to tutor mildly dyslexic students in English comprehension and Language.
Currently writing essays for publication in English Literature and Sociology and Business GCSE and AS level. As well as E papers for 11 plus students.

Tutoring Approach:

I love seeing peoples enthusiasm toward a subject which I also share the same excitement towards however I am also passionate about helping people who may need help or are looking for methods to improve their skills in these topics.
