Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst still an undergraduate, as part of the National Mentoring Pilot Project (NMPP), I was a mentor to four Year 8 pupils, providing support and encouragement in an environment removed from the classroom. I have 5 years experience working as a Spanish teacher in secondary schools in London teaching years 7 to 13, and my exam classes have a very good track record. I have worked with both Edexcel and AQA in this time, so I know what it takes to get the best grades, especially at GCSE. Tutoring Approach:

I always seek to combine a solid grounding of the subject matter at hand with the needs and skill set of the individual. My philosophy is to take this combination and convert it into a student whose mindset becomes independent and robust so they can think for themselves using real world examples wherever possible for relevance. The starting point is always topics students are comfortable with moving gradually towards more complex areas as their mindset and confidence builds.

For me this approach is key and once they're grounded in the basics and well equipped with a relevant skill set, only then do we move on to applying that to an exam format and past papers. This serves to further purify, solidify and perfect the students' understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as mathematical definitions, analysis and the direct link between Algebra and Geometry. Where appropriate, I set and mark work, giving students' detailed feedback to further facilitate their improvement.

Ultimately, I love Mathematics and to infect others with this love is the most rewarding part of my job.

Private Academic Tutoring
I have been tutoring for several years. I have tutored mostly English and English as a Second Language students.

Art Education class
I taught children from 5-7 through my art education class, created lesson plans and introduced my students to a variety of mediums, including textiles, pottery, painting, and drawing.

Private knitting and sewing classes:
I have held private knitting and sewing classes for years, working with children and adults. These are some of my favourite classes, as I love the subject matter and the classes are usually quite relaxed.

Student Directed Seminar: I taught my own seminar at the University of British Columbia through their Student Directed Seminar Programme, and was nominated as a graduating student leader for my role in the seminar.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make the subject matter engaging, and teach in a way that encourages students to ask questions.

I put a lot of effort and creativity into my lesson plans, and have made flash cards, practice homework and mock tests in the past. I am flexible, and, while I like the lessons to be structured, I am also adaptable to students' learning styles.

I began tutoring predominantly family friends and primary school children basic english and maths however after completing my Secondary School Education I feel equipped to tutor at GCSE and A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe in practice makes perfect, and I take a relentless approach in ensuring those I teach fully understand the material and can bring in their own ideas as well.
Teaching one-on-one will also mean i can coach them on writing skills and develop their ideas more readily. However developing an enjoyable teaching environment where the tutee feels comfortable interacting with me is also very important and beneficial to them. I usually take a relaxed approach and encourage them to learn in a pleasant way.
I try to adapt my approach according to who i'm teaching as well, so more games and fun tasks for children while more topic based for older tutees.
I will also use powerpoint presentations, notes I'd taken while studying those subjects and past papers to facilitate my teaching. I've been through all the exams and learning, therefore I can understand more fully what my tutees will need (in terms of support and resources).

I usually choose one topic to focus on per lesson, however if the tutee has a particular topic or problem he/she are struggling with at school, I will happily spend some time on that instead.
I have no problem with running over the hour, at no extra charge, in order to finish a discussion or topic as I feel it is very unhelpful to end abruptly and leave a topic unfinished. I may also set homework that I will mark free of charge outside of lessons and provide feedback.
