Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching and tutoring in a range of subject over the last 5 years. A combination of work in Theatre and in Law has equipped me to assist students in raising their grades and gaining access to the schools and universities of their choice.
I am also a professional actress. Theatre credits include: The Young Vic, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Old Vic, The Royal Festival Hall, The Soho Theatre and The Hackney Empire.
I am one of the co-founders of The Mono Box which is a company that equips young actors with the resources and skills required at the early stages of their career.

Teaching Experience:

One-on-one, Home School Tutoring, Mentoring, Delivering LNAT seminars, Revision courses, Private tutoring

Tutoring Approach:

Not everybody has an easy time with education. Or even enjoys it. As a tutor I believe that it is both crucial and possible to find an accessible way to achieve high results within our education system. Each student has an individual approach (or perhaps may not even know what theirs is yet!), and as a tutor my aim is to enhance their learning style and developing the skills that they already obtain. Having read Law at Cambridge University I understand the value of one-to-one tuition and how this allows one to get to grips with detail that may be so easily glossed over in a classroom environment. From essay writing techniques to helping a tutee understand and decode a difficult textbook, my style focuses on working in manageable chunks whilst still being able to keep to strict deadlines. Having trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, my work as a professional actress I understand the value of confidence and how this is inextricably linked to achieving good results. I am able to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of my tutees quickly and work in an encouraging way to help them improve. My approach is personable and effective and has seen my tutees continuously achieve high results over the last 5 years.

"I found her extremely intelligent, personable and confident, with an engaging personality and good sense of humour. An excellent communicator." - John

"Joan is a great tutor who helped me immensely through my first year and I will have no hesitation to contact her again if I require further tutoring." - Kate

Personal Description:
My name is Mikayla and I have been teaching for 3 years now in primary schools. I had year 5 for 2 years and year 3 for 1 year and am currently a PPA teacher teaching Reception to year 6.

In addition to my teaching experience, I have plentiful amounts of experience working with children and young people. In the past I have worked as a nanny and childminder.

Teaching Experience:

I have a breadth of teaching experience having taught in a variety of different primary and secondary schools across London, Kent and East Sussex.

In 2010, I undertook international placements and have experience working with a variety of different pupils in varied settings including primary schools, international middle schools, pupil referral units and centres which cater for children with special educational needs.

I have references and a current CRB check which you are more than welcome to have a copy of.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach in teaching varies according to the young person I am tutoring. I believe in an individual support programme which is catered around the needs of the individual.

All children and young people learn in different ways, some preferring practise, others preferring more practical demonstrations. Much of my tutoring will be through encouraging the child to think about the subject from different perspectives. Whilst teaching cannot avoid scenario's where children will have to listen - I try to ensure that activities are selected which carefully match the needs of the tutee.

I believe the best results are achieved when you know the child and their interests; once this professional relationship has been established, future sessions can be planned for considering the child or young persons interests.

For example, one of the children I tutor needed support in his writing, his parents were concerned with his understanding of different texts (fiction, non-fiction, reports etc). It is common for boys to be unenthused by writing so I found out that his passion was in sports and football (surprise surprise!) It wasn't long before this young lad was looking through information texts about football and reading newspaper articles about his favourite football team. This provided the perfect opportunity to discuss which components of the text provided what information; this was then linked to the features of reports, recounts, information texts etc.

Personal Description:
I have completed an LLB Law degree and have furthered this by undertaking a Legal Practice Course. I am currently working as a legal representative. In the past I have really enjoy working with young people and I feel that tutoring is something that is underrated and hugely beneficial to them. Due to working with young people in sports I have a full enhanced CRB check.

Teaching Experience:

At university I obtained a position as a Peer Assisted Learning coordinator and leader, which involved taking on a group of first years once a week in order to go over their notes, help them learn to study, revision and essay structuring techniques. This allowed students to have a different kind of learning environment to that of formalised education in which they were comfortable with practising work and asking questions. I very much enjoyed this and believe that it was highly beneficial to the students that attended.

Working at a local football centre I have been involved in several sporting/coaching projects for young people. This has allowed me to develop different teaching strategies related to different environments; these involve quick thinking and problem solving both skills which I deem to be essential when tutoring.

I have close links to a local secondary school and therefore am able to have access to valuable resources which will aid tutoring sessions.

I offer tutoring in GCSE and KS3 English, GCSE & KS3 Maths, GCSE PE and GCSE and A-Level Law.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring is a very important concept for some children. A lot of children benefit hugely from one to one information and reinforcement; and it may be a far more effective learning strategy for them. I think it is important to first gain an understanding of where a child's strengths and weaknesses lie, in order to focus on the areas which perhaps need improvement. I also value a child's input as they are good judges of what they feel they do well and what they may need help with. The tutoring sessions will move at a pace that the child is comfortable with, and help with homework and coursework will be available. For GCSE and A-Level tutoring if desired essay structuring and revision strategies can be discussed and learned, as these are often overlooked in schools.

I feel that tutoring outside of school may help improve a child's confidence within a school environment, be this in the work itself or in class discussions and for them as a person. It is not always easy for a child to speak up at school, and if they do not understand this may result in them falling behind. As a tutor I am able to reinforce school work at a pace more appropriate for the level of your child, and allow them to develop and learn in a way that is suitable and enjoyable for them.

Personal Description:
I have worked with some 800+ children and have a pass rate of 91%. I recommend that children start tuition from near the beginning of year 5 and have a 50 mins-one hour lesson per week.

I am a regular contributor on 11+ website forums giving parents the benefit of my experience/knowledge.

In 2003 I produced a guide to 11+ success and have sold over 1500 copies to date.

I have been an adviser to publisher Nelson Thornes on the contents of their VR books which include the Bond range.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 21 years experience as a private tutor preparing children for the grammar school entrance exams (11+) and 11 years as a year 5 class teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carry out an initial assessment test which provides me with an accurate guide as to whether the child is a suitable candidate.

My aim is to familiarise my pupils with the different types of verbal reasoning questions they will encounter in the exam and teach them methods to tackle them most effectively.

As we approach the exam we concentrate on 'fine-tuning' i.e. concentrating specifically on any areas that need further attention and ensuring that the child is used to working at the required speed. Appropriate practice tests are done on a regular basis.

Personal Description:
I have recently finished studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) at the University of Oxford, and have loved the course.

Outside academics I am a keen sportsman, taking part in university level football, amongst other sports.
I am honest, friendly and reliable and would look forward to tutoring anyone from and background or academic capability.

Having had dyslexia throughout my studies i understand how difficult the process of learning can be for some students, and am well equipped to help such students to flourish. Indeed the skills i have had to teach myself can be used to improve the ability of anyone, of any academic level.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my A-Levels and university i had been engaged in the informal tutoring of friends, and friends of friends which built up to a small network in Sussex, and increasingly Oxford. For the last few years i have been tutoring regularly, and have developed extended relationships with most of my tutees. Whether they are looking for specific and intensive help, or more structured work towards an exam the majority return to me.

Having been through the Oxbridge system myself I am especially well-versed in Oxbridge entrance-exam tutoring, or study beyond the standard curriculum. I know what it takes to get in to Oxford, and have varied programmes geared towards this specific end goal - making specific changes to the way one prepares has a drastic impact on the chance of success.

Scheduling necessary in advance, due to high demand.

My results are as follows:

GCSE:

Maths A*
English Literature A*
English Language A*
Chemistry A*
Physics A*
Religious Studies A*
Geography A*
French A*
Art A*
Latin A*

AS-Level:

Maths A
English A
Economics A
Theology A
History of Art A

A-Level:

Economics A*
English A*
Theology A*

PPE: Predicted 1st class honours, results pending.

Tutoring Approach:

Having spent time in the unique Oxford one on one tutoring programme i have realised that there cannot be one distinct and best approach to tutoring. What is best depends entirely on the individual being tutored. I have a strong belief that the material up to and including A-Level is not too difficult for anyone to grasp, it is simply the approach to the material that distinguishes those who perform well from those who under perform.

While a drive to do well needs to come from the students themselves, often revision and exam technique can be poor; students can spend hours on meaningless revision, or get a much worse mark than someone with equal knowledge.

Hence, while helping tutees understand bits they find hard, i find predominantly that it is their approach and mentality in relation to exams that need to change. How one thinks about what they are studying, and what specifically is required of them is the key to exam-success. 80% of people achieve a similar level of knowledge by the time of the exams, but only 10% know exactly how to use this information.

Therefore my typical tutorial would involve the tutee sending me an email with an explanation of what they are finding difficult in the chosen subject. I would then set some specific questions which the tutee would attempt before the tutorial. In the actual tutorial we would go through these questions making necessary clarifications to understanding while simultaneously discussing how to maximise marks. I have to far found that this approach yields the best results fastest, and prevents whole tutorials labouring upon one simple point.

My area of speciality is undoubtedly school scholarship exams (Eton, Winchester, Westminster etc.), or University Entrance (Oxford/Cambridge), but I have tutored from the age of 8 to the age of 40!

While my prices charged are relatively high, this is a consequence of high demand for my services and a proven track record. If you would like references do not hesitate to ask!

Please get in touch - I look forward to working with you.

Best

James

Personal Description:
I went into teaching because I love literature and I love working with young people; as a result I find teaching not only satisfying but also thoroughly enjoyable. I have worked in independent schools since 2005 and have taught both English Literature and Drama and Theatre Studies to A level standard, as well as giving private tuition and running a boarding house. I am qualified to MA level and also have a Boarding Schools Association certificate in pastoral care.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught AS and A level English Literature (OCR and AQA), GCSE English (OCR and AQA) and GCSE English Literature (OCR and AQA) as well as examining for OCR. (I can teach to any syllabus, however.) I have taught both foundation and higher tier at GCSE. I have also given private tuition to students of all ages and taught A level Drama and Theatre Studies (AQA). I believe that study and revision skills are incredibly important and always teach them alongside academic subjects.

As a Housemistress I have several years of experience of pastoral care and am empathetic and sensitive to my students as individuals.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a strong believer in working with my students' strengths while challenging them to improve areas of weakness in a supportive and friendly manner. As well as the syllabus required I also teach the study skills students need to continue their learning between lessons.

I believe that learning should be fun and that everyone has the capacity to enjoy novels, poetry and plays. I aim to help all students set themselves ambitious but realistic goals, whether that be to read aloud confidently, pass GCSE English or get an A* in A level English Literature, and then to meet those goals and go on to face new challenges with positivity and determination.

As well as offering tuition sessions of one or two hours on a regular basis, I offer intensive day and two day long courses to pupils preparing for exams. These are during half terms and school holidays and are one on one. Please enquire for further details.

Personal Description:
My name is Rachel and I have extensive experience in helping students of all ages and abilities to achieve their academic and language goals. I'm located in Stoke-on-Trent and deliver lessons in English Literature and Language at varying levels within Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in education for the past six years and have been doing private tutoring since 2011. I currently work as the Learning Support Coordinator at a local college; a role that entails tutoring an abundance of students on a one-to-one basis through their exams and class work. I am very proud to say that I have an excellent success rate for students achieving their desired grade in exams. I think the secret to this is the intensity that one-to-one tutoring allows - focus is placed on a student's personal requirements rather than following a generic lesson plan.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my lessons are conducted according to the pupil's ability with enthusiasm and energy. My tutoring style is relaxed and lead by the student's interests in order to generate a comfortable and inspired environment and my success starts with building a good rapport with my students.

I thoroughly enjoy encouraging a passion for learning and use a variety of teaching strategies to enable a pupil to learn efficiently and to ensure the learning environment is creative and engaging. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and my love for education is evident in my tutoring style.

My sessions will enable you or your child to achieve your targets and help you to establish your own effective methods of studying for future success.

All resources are provided; certified curriculum guides and books, course studies and past exam board papers.I offer something different to the usual school atmosphere and approach education from a variety of aspects in order to ensure a pupil can grasp a concept.

I can tutor at the student's house but request that sessions are a minimum of two hours and mileage will be charged at 45p per mile per session.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified, excellent and enthusiastic primary school teacher. I am not currently employed as I am taking a year or so off to be a full time Mum. I have a lot of experience working one to one as a private tutor as well as my vast classroom experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have 6 years experience teaching Year 1 as well as a years supply teaching across both key stages 1 and 2. I am passionate about what I do and achieve good results.

Tutoring Approach:

I have tutored many children on a one to one basis, subjects ranging from Maths, Writing, Reading and also Recorder lessons. The most important part of tutoring is understanding the child's specific learning needs. I tailor every session to suit the child and to follow his/ her progress. As a primary teacher, I pride myself on being extremely patient and on making learning fun. There is nothing to be gained from tutoring a child who wishes you weren't there. Once a rapport has been built between myself and the child, progress flies. Enjoyment is key.

Personal Description:
I am a keen, enthusiastic and passionate tutor who has just completed a Masters' degree and a Geography degree, both from Oxford University. I am about to complete the GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) at BPP, London (Waterloo). I have demonstrated sustained academic success since the age of 13 when I won two scholarships to Westminster School (Queen's Scholarship) and Haberdashers' Aske's, Elstree (Top Scholarship).

My subsequent qualifications are outlined below:

12 A* GCSEs (incl. full marks in English Language and Literature),

4 "A"A-Level Grades August 2009 in Mathematics (MEI), Geography, History and Biology also at Westminster School.

Highly Commended Prize Essays on 'Global Warming: An Inconvenient Truth or Convenient Untruth?' and 'Biofuels should no longer be considered as a weapon against climate change.'

BA (Hons.) Geography at Jesus College, Oxford 2009-2012.
First (Distinction) achieved in Prelim University 1st Year Exams, July 2010
Academic Scholarship Awarded for 2010-2012

MSc. Criminology & Criminal Justice: Green Templeton College, University Oxford, 2012-2013

Teaching Experience:

Very experienced tutor; over 140 hours of tutoring experience from 11+ to university interview preparation. I am a top tier tutor at other agencies.

My last four tutees have attained the highest academic achievements:
One gained a place reading Land Economy at Cambridge University,
ALL three of my 13+ candidates received places at EVERY one of the schools they applied for. Two of these three even achieved academic scholarships.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe there are a number of key principles to tutoring.
1) RAPPORT - each tutee is different and it is important not to have a set formula when working with each student, or even for each class. In my opinion, there should be an emphasis on identifying the needs of the student and working towards these goals.
2) TARGETS - what are we working towards, how we can get there and isolating areas for improvement.
3) PRACTICE - regular testing, from past papers to 4) GENERAL EXAM TECHNIQUE.

Employing these four principles as a foundation, tutoring can be productive and enjoyable and I have a number of testimonies to illustrate this point. For instance, last summer, I worked with an A-Level Geography candidate who was able to get their grade from an E at AS Level to an overall high B grade for their entire A Level.

Personal Description:
I'm a playwright and storywriter/teller with two children. I have excellent qualifications and an understanding of how to succeed within the traditional academic environment, while maintaining a preference for alternative and informal ways of learning. Using a highly creative and fun approach, I aim to make learning enjoyable and to bring out the strengths in each individual. As the mother of a child with additional needs, I am patient and well-versed in coping with reluctant learners - however, I also enjoy working with students who are more motivated. I'm passionate about education being a life-long journey and in lighting the spark rather than "filling the bucket" (to misquote Einstein.)

Teaching Experience:

Having home educated my children until the ages of 9 and 6

Work experience and as a volunteer in primary schools.

Working with young people age 16-24 on a Prince's Trust theatre scheme

Leading workshops in creative writing as well as giving talks to theatre students.

Tutoring Approach:

As my son has Asperger's Syndrome, I'm used to working with this kind of additional/special need and finding ways of engaging reluctant learners. I'm interested in alternative approaches to education such as Steiner, having been a home-educator, but find it most effective to tailor the approach to the individual. Above all I enjoy stimulating curiosity and a willingness to learn and in finding creative ways to bring out the best in learners of any age. I believe in working from strengths and boosting confidence, and using humour and creativity so that the learning experience is positive and enjoyable.
