Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced tutor with more than 8 year's experience . I have a real talent in passing exams, So, as a last resort, I hope some of my exam / revision tips can help someone get that extra few marks to move up a grade. I have very much interest in teaching the Maths & Science subjects and other similar subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have around 8 year's of teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is very friendly and efficient for those who want to prosper in their studies. I always try to make my lessons mutually interesting, especially for my pupils. If students are not eager to study mathematics at first, I understand that this is due to frustration and lack of knowledge in the subject. I try to create warm and helping environment for pupils. I try to interest and inspire them so that they get enough knowledge and experience and eventually develop confidence and love for mathematics.

Personal Description:
I tutor from my comfortable home in Bishopston, BS7 (but can do home visits locally where a special need exists). I have a degree in English, a PGCE in English teaching, experience of teaching English Language and Literature in secondary schools and experience as a GCSE examiner in English Literature. Therefore I am a specialist subject teacher for English. On the basis of further qualifications and work experience in social research and therapy I can also tutor Sociology and Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

Working full time in London and Bristol secondary schools for 5 years teaching English Language and Literature enabled me to stretch students of all abilities. After having my own family I returned to the challenges of secondary supply teaching. I have also worked as a social science researcher for Cardiff University in schools and have strong experience in the subject of Sociology. I am also a qualified, practising counsellor so have strong experience in the subject of Psychology. I worked as an examiner for the Midland Examining Group for 7 years on the GCSE Literature paper.

Tutoring Approach:

My personal qualities and professional training enable me to work with any individual student and their own motivation. I am experienced at tailoring work to the needs of the student and the requirements of the examining body. I am happy to help with coursework and exam preparation, and to agree goals with the student to progress between tutoring sessions. I can liaise effectively with the students own subject teacher and arrange private GCSE retakes where needed.

Personal Description:
I am an elite tutor specialising in English and Drama. I also speak Italian to near fluency. I am an honours graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, with a masters degree in English Literature. I am now a full time theatre director, working freelance. I have worked on shows at the National Theatre, the Almeida Theatre and in the West End.

I specialise particularly in Oxbridge admissions applications and drama school applications.

My literature specialties are Shakespeare, American literature and all literature of the last thirty years.

I am extremely energetic, dedicated and sociable. During my time at university I was the Welfare Officer of the college students' union and the college rugby club captain. The ability to juggle my time and commitments has shown me to be organised and focused, while the roles themselves required me to be approachable, friendly and motivational.

Teaching Experience:

I have now been tutoring consistently for over six years. Every one of my students has achieved the highest possible grade in the subjects in which I have tutored them.

Testimonies from previous students:

'We could never have done it without Tom'

'Tom was everything we could have asked for in a tutor. Helpful, reliable and seemed to gel immediately with our son'

'Tom was able to sort out many difficult areas in the syllabus.
Through the course of the lessons I gained the confidence and clarity needed for a very important exam.
I highly recommend Tom as he is a patient and kind teacher that I believe can provide help to any student struggling with drama.'

I worked as a volunteer teacher at an international school in Swaziland for three months, running drama classes and English classes. I also coached the school rugby team. In the drama classes I focused very much on basic dramatic skills through games and exercises, while the English classes were much more specific, focusing on Shakespeare texts and working in particular on Graham Swift's 'Waterland', which was a set text for the IB exam that year. I am currently affiliated with the National Youth Theatre as well as several drama schools; I work with educational projects in theatres and drama schools around London, working closely and extensively with students and young people.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I like to be very open and conversational with the student. What is especially important is that the student comes away with the belief not that they have been dictated to, but that they have discovered things for themselves. I ask a lot of questions, guiding the student towards a conclusion rather than imposing it directly. This makes for a very interactive and exciting experience, an experience that contrasts perfectly with the proscriptive, curricular methods of traditional schoolteaching.

My approach also enables me to adapt to the needs of each individual student, and to have conversations both with them and with their parents. I recognise that each tutee has specific, unique needs, and I am totally prepared to adjust my style to such needs.

Personal Description:
I am 34 years old and hold a Masters degree from Oxford University.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring on a one-to-one basis for over 12 years. I also sometimes teach small classes. I am happy teaching children, teenagers university students and adult learners.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching uses traditional methods and lively interaction. I expect the student to complete tasks between lessons. Without repetition and revision no-one can be expected to remember. Therefore, I am not afraid to go over the most basic elements until they are well known. Solid foundations are the basis for confidence.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am 29 years old from the Old Trafford/ Stretford area of Manchester, I graduated in Law from Lancaster university in 2008, I now work in the legal profession having previously worked in the Banking/financial field. I am an individual who is quite fond of reading, debating and discovering new things. I would say I am quite lively, not too difficult to get on with, very ambitious but also with an equal dash of a patience for I am a patient individual. Although I am admittedly not fantastic at sports I do play badminton and football from time to time I can play a range of sports but those tend to be the main two. I am a massive fan of education and self development. The colossal impact both areas can have upon our lives is incalculable, as such I tend to be never too far away from reading a book or learning something new to further myself.

Teaching Experience:

I have mainly gained a lot of my early teaching experience through tutoring younger siblings and assisting the junior year students either at college or University with areas which they either required either extra help in or further knowledge. I have further developed this over the last four years and I am confident that the contribution which I have made to those who I have helped has been substantial in helping them to progress onwards to the next stage and beyond. As such I would hope to extend this towards any student who desires to take me on board and to progress until they are ready for the task at hand.

As I have progressed over the years, teaching various and numerous tutees, my own personal & teaching experience has grown exponentially year on year. As such I believe I can approach any teaching scenario and offer the required angle to ensure success as a result of previous experience yet I still take each student on a case by case/ individual basis rather than a blanket approach.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin my approach with an informal but analytical conversation with the student, parent or both in order to assess strengths and areas where we can develop a plan of action or just to establish face to face what it is we will be doing in the time we have. I will aim to take each stage step by step until both you and I are satisfied that we are confident in understanding and explaining coherently the relevant information. I will be professional but understanding as patience dictates, most importantly any work set during the session will be wholly relevant, comprehensible and creative in order to match your needs.

I do incorporate digital media, an interactive projector for lessons and presentations or a whiteboard depending on the subject if a visual element is required in teaching. Presentations can be sent via email at any time as well.

*For any LPC students I can also tutor and instruct in Solicitors accounts too.

Personal Description:
Originally from Newcastle, I am now an actor and enjoy tutoring alongside my acting work. I have worked in TV, and also in theatre, including venues such as The National Theatre and the West End. Especially with younger students, I like to keep my lessons creative and practical. I studied English and Drama at Bristol University and then went on to train at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Recently, I have been tutoring in English, Drama, 11+ Common Entrance exams and general Primary school help.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for over 6 years. Alongside my tutoring, I am currently teaching Music and Drama in schools and I run workshops with Sixth Formers on ways of analysing texts practically.

7+ - I worked with Elektra (6) preparing her for 7+ Examinations. Covering English, Maths and Reasoning focussed on entry to Notting Hill and Ealing High School.

7+ - Working with Harry on English, Maths and exam technique, focussing him for 7+ exam for Dulwich Prep School. Harry has traits of both dyslexia and dyspraxia.

7+ - I work with Jules on his English. Jules is French and has just started attending a French school, so we are working to keep his English up to scratch. Main areas of focus are: speaking, spelling, listening/understanding and grammar.

7+ - Working with Charlie mainly on English, increasing his confidence in all areas but focussing on Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Comprehension.

11+ - Working with Guy on English and Maths one day a week. Mainly focussed on Guy's writing and spelling. Guy is preparing for entry to Westminster and Eton Schools.

11+ - I worked with Ingrid on English and Maths in preparation for exams for Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Francis Holland and Godolphin and Latymer Schools. Ingrid went to her first choice of Notting Hill and Ealing High.

11+ - I worked with Olivia in preparation for her Common Entrance exams on all papers (English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning) as well as interview practice. Olivia is now attending North London Collegiate School (her first choice) but I also prepared her for entrance to Highgate School for Girls, City of London School for Girls and Queen's College.

Primary Help - I worked with brothers Teddy (7) and Alfie (10) mainly on English and Maths but also across all subjects generally to improve knowledge, confidence, spelling and vocabulary.

Primary Help - I worked with Rohan (10) on improving his confidence and basic skills in English and Maths. Rohan was very inquisitive and keen but needed help focussing and answering the specific questions that he was being asked.

A Level English Literature (AQA) - worked with Oliver (17) helping with coursework on The Great Gatsby and the poetry of Keats and Larkin. Oliver achieved an A grade.

AS Level Drama (AQA) - helped Yasmin to explore the analysis of texts of Lady Windermere's Fan and A View From The Bridge in preparation for exams, in which she achieved an A.

GCSE English Literature - tutored Amy in preparation for coursework and exams. Texts: Lord of The Flies and A View From The Bridge.

Home Schooling - Inigo (6 when I started) had been getting reports of generally dropping behind in class work with a lack of concentration. I homeschooled him every Friday for two terms. He was having particular trouble in English and Maths. Inigo was struggling especially with English, in all areas, and was most behind with Spelling and Grammar. For him to engage, I had to be both creative (to keep him interested) but also quick as the plan was to get him into Kew Green Primary for the next academic year. We covered the basics of year 1 and ironed out any problems (also to give him confidence with the things he could do) and then went onto year 2. I would use a lot of what he was naturally interested in (football and particular comic book characters) in the teaching to keep his attention. With Maths, Inigo could do simple addition and subtraction but struggled when getting into 2 digits, multiplication, or any sort of wordy problem where the sum to be done was not absolutely clear. So, again, we covered the basics and then pushed on. He worked really hard and eventually we were looking forward to things he may encounter next year. At first Inigo was quite reluctant to work but I managed to win him over and build up a good rapport for productive days of homeschooling. Thankfully, he gained a place at Kew Green, and we were delighted! (Though it did mean, unfortunately, that he didn't need me any more...).

English for Foreign Learners - Helped 8 year old Augustinos (Greek) with reading and homework to improve English, as well as taking him on educational trips around London.

Drama (practical) - Coached Emily (21) and Hannah (20) with acting lessons in preparation for Drama School Entry auditions. Emily has now trained at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Hannah is training at LAMDA.

Voice and Elocution - Helped Law Student Amar (20) with speechmaking and projection for use in debating.

SEN - worked with Dean (20), a law student with dyslexia, upon exam preparation and practice.

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor whatever I teach to my pupil's needs. I am very easy to get along with and very open to how you think you or your child will best learn. Above all I would want a pupil to look forward to my sessions with them so will make sure that they are practical, interesting and varied. Especially with the younger students I teach I think that lessons need to be fun to keep them excited about learning! If you have any questions at all or specific enquiries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed my funded PhD on Samuel Beckett and Theodor W. Adorno at Royal Holloway, University of London. I completed my Masters study in Literature and Philosophy in September 2012, graduating with Distinction, and received a First Class Honours BA in English from Royal Holloway in 2010. Between my Undergraduate and Masters study I worked for a year as an Editorial Assistant in the Health Sciences division of Hachette UK.

I held a choral scholarship at university and was previously a chorister at Winchester Cathedral.

Teaching Experience:

I am a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway and currently teach on the First Year Undergraduate course 'Inventing the Novel', which covers literature from 1724 to the modern day. I received excellent student feedback, with over 90% of my students agreeing that the seminars furthered their knowledge. A number of the students identified seminars as the aspect of the course that helped them increase their knowledge and skills, with comments including 'engaging and approachable' and 'very helpful essay feedback'.

I have four years' experience in tutoring pupils of a range of ages, from 4 to 18. I am practiced in preparing students for their GCSE and Alevel examinations, working closely with the syllabus whilst extending their understanding. I am currently a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, teaching a first year Undergraduate course: 'Inventing the Novel'.

I also have four years' experience as a private Piano Tutor, in which time I have tutored adults and children of varying abilities, developing their musicality and aural skills and entering them into ABRSM examinations where appropriate.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student requires entirely different strategies for the optimum level of learning. It is important for them to be taught in a positive and open environment, where they are encouraged not only to develop academically, but also to enjoy the experience of learning.

The subjects that I teach are nothing if not inter-disciplinary; literature, history, philosophy, religion, music and art cannot be studied apart from one another, each in their own little cubby-hole. Whilst I recognise the need to cram for exams in our education system, I still believe that excellent grades can be achieved without compromising original thought and extra-curricular study.

I also offer proof-reading services if you do not require face to face tuition but only some help on a particular piece of work.

Personal Description:
I love history! I have been 'doing' history since I was 14, and it is something that encapsulates me into a whole different world. I have worked as a history teacher at a secondary school for 10 years, and have loved delving back into the past with the older and younger students alike. I studied and worked in archaeology before becoming a history teacher, and found working with real objects from the past was an amazing experience.

At home, I am mum to a 4 year old daughter, and 2 year old son. Being a mum is both challenging and rewarding and gives me the opportunity to be creative with activities. I am also a member of a local orchestra and enjoy many different types and styles of music. During the summer months, we all enjoy our camping trips to France in our old VW Camper Van, and spend a lot of time touring this country too.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching History at KS3, GCSE, AS and A-Level for 10 years. For four of those ten years I was Head of Department, responsible for issues such as curriculum, exams and monitoring student progress, so I am experienced in identifying areas of need for students and helping them to progress. I have been very successful with exam results, and have enjoyed guiding tutee's through their exam subjects.
I have taught AQA in the main, but have knowledge of OCR and Edexcel. I am also part of the teams of markers for AQA at GCSE, and am a moderator for the Unit 4 coursework with Edexcel. I have knowledge and understanding what exam boards are looking for in response to exam questions and coursework objectives.

I am also working as a Functional Skills Tutor in Literacy to adults, which is both new and rewarding. This fits in well with my family and I am finding the challenge enjoyable.

I have been tutoring since Dec 2011, and really enjoy the change from class teaching. I have tutored a wide range of students with a wide range of needs, and have taught to all the exam boards. It is really rewarding to set up individual lessons and focus on exactly what is needed, knowing I can offer help and support to students. I like to be well prepared for individual lessons and to make the most of the time we have to improve techniques, subject knowledge and overall exam grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that what really helps students to progress is an understanding of exam technique. Having knowledge of the subject is important, but knowing how to handle it and use it in an exam situation if key to gaining top grades. I like to adopt a friendly and approachable manner with students to encourage focus and progress. I will go through essays and exam questions to identify areas that could be improved, and suggest ways of improving the use of language to make the most of student's knowledge. Giving feedback for written work is imperative to aid progress and this will take a large role in my tutoring.

Personal Description:
I love teaching! :) This is my passion and my job. It gives me great satisfaction and fulfills my ambitions. I am optimistic and open-minded what makes my students more eager to enrich and assimilate knowledge. I am demanding but patient as my goal is to provide effective tutoring to my students. What is more, my experience in working with international teachers and students has developed my creativity. Last but not least, organisational skills are definitely my second nature.

Teaching Experience:

I have been gaining valuable international work experience as English Teacher since 2000. I have been in intensive cooperation with leading English, Australian and Polish schools of English, both private and state, teaching children, teenage and adult students. I have found fulfilment in providing General and Business English courses to groups and individuals on all English levels ranging from A1 to C2. I have also conducted FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and EAP courses and specialised English Training and Workshops successfully. My TEFL experience is with students of different cultural background. I have them with their different pronunciational, lexical or grammatical difficulties which proves my expertise and adaptability to students. Moreover, I was responsible for developing General English and TOEFL/IELTS curriculum and its further coordination. On a regular basis I also work as on-line tutor and provide Grammar, Vocabulary, and Speaking classes to students. Moreover, I enjoy working as a translator of economic, financial, legal and technical texts, and as interpreter at business meeting and negotiations.

Tutoring Approach:

How do I conduct classes? I always set the goal of providing effective training. However, before getting into the classroom, I make a detailed lesson plan, based on successful course books or my own materials, which specifies both lesson and personal aims. Most of the time they refer to my individual approach to students and make lessons tailored to their specific needs. I believe that effective teaching must be a combination of work and fun. My priority is to make classes varied, engaging, and memorable. Varied as they touch upon all skills and different types of activities. Engaging as I want my classes to be student-centered with the main focus on communication. And memorable as there are fun games and IT equipment. I believe that not only planning, but also monitoring and reporting play a great role. To get the full picture of the learning process, I provide students with sufficient feedback and reports.

***CURRENTLY LIVING IN GERMANY & AVAILABLE FOR ENGLISH CHECKING (BY E-MAIL) ONLY****

I am a professional in my 30s with degrees in English & Italian Literature (BA 2:1, Warwick 2000) and the History of Medicine & Science (MA Merit, Birkbeck College, University of London). I also hold a CELTA qualification in teaching English Language to adults.

Following my masters degree I studied acting at Rose Bruford College and have performed at fringe venues in London and Belfast though tend now to concentrate on writing for the stage. My book of dramatic monologues, "Untold Lives" was published last year and is now available on Amazon. My first novel, "And I Shall Be Healed" was published by Quickbeam Press in January 2014,

Proof-editing: contact for rates.

In addition to teaching I also offer a proof-reading service so for university essays / research proposals / writing projects, please do contact me for rates.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently living and working as a CELTA qualified EFL teacher in Bonn, Germany. In addition I have 9 years private tutoring experience. Much of this was tutoring GCSE students in English Literature with some history and A'Level students.

In addition to this I hold a CELTA qualificatin and have taught English language at summer schools in Italy.

I hold a CRB.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with students is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My role is not to replace the teaching they get at school but to compliment it so a tutoring session could concentrate on planning an essay the student has been asked to write or going through specific areas the student needs help with. I won't necessarily give homework - unless required - as I feel students have enough to do without me adding to their workload.

In return I expect my students to engage with the sessions. They don't have to like the subject and of course I'm there to help those who don't understand some things or just need a little help or encouragement, but the student must be prepared to be tutored.

Personal Description:
I'm a good communicator and feel strongly about spoken and written language. I have a first-class degree in Creative Writing & Writing for Performance (with extra modules taken in Theatre Studies). I am also a keen musician.

Teaching Experience:

I've been working in education since 2005 and have over seven years' experience teaching English at secondary schools and a local college - to young people and adults alike. I also have experience of teaching primary school children and enjoy making my own user-friendly resources.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim is to build students' independence and develop their personal thinking skills. I endeavour to make topics accessible yet challenging, and place great importance on clarity, accuracy and imagination. Recently I've been focusing on improving students' basic literacy skills; helping them to structure written responses effectively; promoting reading as an essential yet enjoyable activity; and encouraging independence of thought in both analysis and creativity.

Personal Description:
I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. I also have two qualifications from Ulster University in Peer Mentoring and Counselling.

I have strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills and self-motivator. Apart from being an interesting experience in itself, tutoring is an ideal opportunity for me at this stage of my career as the area of this job is interesting to me and I have got the enthusiasm and motivation and energy to do it well and to develop things.I would like consider offering online tutorials (email writing tutorials for students who can not attend some classes).

Teaching Experience:

In the Diploma of Education and Qualification, I have been trained how to teach and how to deliver lectures in Arabic and English and also how to prepare lesson plan. I have experience of teaching university students in Syria as I was a lecturer at Aleppo University from 2002 to 2013. I enjoy teaching and lecturing and love my profession as I am particularly interested in communicating with individuals and groups. My colleagues and supervisors all say that I am a natural communicator and this, coupled with my knowledge of the field, leads me to think that I would make a good teacher. My mother tongue language is Arabic, yet my knowledge of written and spoken English is very good as well. I am also interested in materials design and curriculum development in ELT and could make useful contributions in these areas. I have also specialized in ESP, Materials and Methods in ELT, Language Teachers in Classrooms and Vocabulary and would be interested in teaching international students. My job in Syria was delivering pre-sessional programmes in academic English language to Syrian postgraduate students. Those students have to attend some EAP and ESP courses and pass the final exam which will enable them to pursue their high studies in Syria or in some English speaking countries like UK, USA and Canada. My teaching experience gives me a deeper insight and understanding of actual teaching/learning contexts. When I did my MA degree at Essex University, I taught some international students as part of the "Teaching Practice" module. I have been trained how to write a lesson plan for international students and how to use the PowerPoint for delivering lectures. Furthermore, I am very au fait with technology in the classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. For example, the instructor's teaching style must address the learning style of the learner, the learner must be motivated, and the setting must provide resources and values that strongly support the teaching of the language. However, if the strands are not woven together effectively, the instructional loom is likely to produce something small, weak, ragged, and pale--not recognizable as a tapestry at all.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in BSc Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics external degree programme where I studied under a full scholarship for four years. I am committed to becoming an expert in the field of Economics and Mathematics and currently tutoring full-time before going to study MSc Economics at LSE starting September 2016.

In addition to tutoring I work as a swimming instructor teaching pupils aged 2 to 40+ in groups and on a 1:1 basis. I teach at private residence and specific leisure centres and have been in this role since 2009 and have thoroughly enjoyed it I also find it a nice complement to tutoring.

Recreationally I swim up to three times per week and play five- a - side fortnightly a remnant of my more sporting days as a school and college student. During that time I competed on many sports teams including Rugby, Hockey, Water Polo and Cricket.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Mathematics and Economics tutor for 4 years in this time my reliability and skill has enabled me to develop a good reputation which has allowed me to have a consistent base of 15 - 20 students on a weekly basis.

I have tutored university students attending Russell group universities such as Queen Mary and Warwick and have taught GCSEs and A-levels across all major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and iGCSE. Additionally I have had students admitted to prestigious private schools such as Eltham College and Bromley High after excelling in their 11+ exams.

Career Highlights!

- Academic Year 2011 - 2012 I helped a student who was predicted a C grade at GCSE to achieve a coveted place at Eltham College after passing a difficult 16+ exam, we then continued to work together to secure an A grade at GCSE

- Academic year 2012 - 2013 I helped a student who scored a D grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 level after 8 months of tuition. He was the only student to score an A grade in his school since 2007.

- Academic Year 2013 - 2014 I helped a student who scored a C grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 Economics with an impressive 97% in Unit 1, 99% in Unit 2 and 100% in Unit 3. He had also had three previous tutors who he was dissatisfied with before coming to me.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach embodies a long term approach to learning I teach students in a way which will allow them to be successful in higher education as well as their more short term exams. I also try to make students more confident in their abilities overall not just the material I teach.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation to success in academic study. I concentrate a lot of time and energy on instilling these basic principles in students.

I am also a strong believer in understanding over 'rope learning' I ensure that pupils understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, never encouraging them to simply regurgitate what they have seen previously.

I also encourage practical understanding of concepts frequently referencing real world examples and using objects to illustrate theory as I recognise that theory on its own given no relevance is harder to remember. Supplementary to this I also relate teaching material to potential job roles and tasks which I have knowledge of (mostly Banking or Business related) in order communicate usefulness to students and keep things interesting.

Finally I believe teaching successfully is ultimately about listening to your students I constantly encourage students to question things and express anything they don't understand or are not too sure of. If a student looks unsure or hesitant about something I will ask open questions or get them to explain concepts to me in order to fully grasp their understanding. This also helps build their confidence and ability to express themselves accurately.

Personal Description:
I'm Karis, a 20 year old student at university just looking to help out wherever I can. I have worked with children and young people since mid-secondary school coaching sports. I'm a hard-working, results-driven, positive individual interested in working with children and young people as it wasn't long ago I was in their exact position in GCSE and A-Level. Growing up I wanted to be a secondary school PE teacher, but due to limited places on PGCE's nowadays, and more positive experiences as a teaching assistant, I am now considering becoming a teaching assistant, or continuing a primary school based coaching project that I'm currently taking part in in university.

Teaching Experience:

I have coached children since aged 14 in a range of sports to try and help them develop a variety of interpersonal skills, and skills and qualities in the sports.
Between the age of 16-18 I ran an after-school netball club in primary schools to develop a team and take them to competitions.
After leaving 6th form I continued going in to primary schools with my secondary school teacher, assisting her in leading sessions for the children.
During university, I have completed work placements working as a teaching assistant in London.
Currently working on a project for university in taking sports and nutrition in to primary schools to relieve teachers of their PE lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be as easy-going and laid-back as I can be in my approach, I listen to what the child has to say and I help them and try to ease their knowledge out of them with a variety of questions. Its a self-discovery/self-guided approach using Mosston's Spectrum of teaching. For example, I'd ask them questions based on a particular topic or question they need to be able to answer, which leads them to figure out the correct answers themselves, etc. Not only will I use a self-discovery route, but when necessary I'd provide information and knowledge that I know in order to help them achieve their potential.
