Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I am a patient teacher. I am warm and open. I encourage pupils by setting reasonable targets. I speak French fluently and I have a degree in Management Sciences with Computing. I speak and have studied French to Masters level. I have a Masters in Marketing and a PGCE and a Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy. I am fully qualified to write Assessment Reports and make applications for extra time in examinations. I have tutored children and adults before. I am based in Finsbury Park.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced primary school teacher. I am fully qualified and have an up to date CRB check. I have experience of teaching in state, private, prep and SEN (Special Educational Needs) Schools. I am experienced in working with children with special/additional needs. I am able to support children on a 1-2-1 basis to ensure that they receive the additional input that they need in order to achieve. I have just completed a postgraduate in dyslexia and literacy with Dyslexia Action and the University of York. I have now take a senior role as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator at a Prep School.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in looking at and trying to educate the whole child. In doing this I think that one can inspire the class and improve their confidence and their desire to learn and develop. I looked carefully at the children's previous work to evaluate their current level before planning a new lesson. For each lesson I teach, I plan the lesson in detail, listing resources, support staff and their roles, ICT resources used, differentiation for different abilities, the structure and timing of the lesson, the objectives and learning outcomes expected as well as the tasks that we are going to carry out, and the teaching methods that would be most effective for the subject and the class.

I used a variety of working styles such as kinaesthetic, auditory and visual methods to increase the reach and differentiation of the teaching for all students. I use these methods to anticipate and resolve any problems and identify opportunities for extending the pupils learning. I often use the interactive whiteboard to display and interact with resources such as web pages, educational games, and visual or auditory presentations. This is a fantastic way of stimulating and allowing children to lead their learning.

I understand the importance of inclusive provision and practice. I am very interested in working with children with learning difficulties. I assess children's work with a view to assessing ways in which we could improve their understanding and presentation of work. I also tried to differentiate effectively for all the pupils through my use of questioning. I used extending questions or questions which would be aimed at different ability groups to maximise my pupil's understanding of my objectives.

Personal Description:
I'm a very approachable person who interacts well with students of all ages. Most would say that I have a positive outlook on life and always leave a positive impact on those I meet. I'm friendly, down to earth and honest. My philosophy is that studies don't have to be boring, and I always use my career as a teacher/tutor as testament to this.

I enjoy a variety of different things such as arts, culture and cuisine. My hobbies include drawing comic strips, magna, anime and playing electric bass. I am open minded and welcome students of any age, race, background and culture as an honour for me to teach.

Teaching Experience:

Over 7 years experience teaching and tutoring in and out of classrooms. I have taught both in the UK and abroad. I am one of the few teachers in London who is able to teach Mathematics, English Language, English Literature and the three respective Sciences to A* at GCSE.

Valid CRB
School/Classroom references available
Tuition references available

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

We'll tailor a program as a team, and prioritise it factorising your: current ablities, time proximity, and scope of subjects you'd like to cover.

Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I also have a lot of experience with learning difficulties as I have helped my younger brother all his studying life through his asperger's and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

My inspiration to work in the arts always came from the books, films, artists and languages I studied at school and at university so I have a great amount of passion and interest in what I teach.

I believe this is very much the most important lesson for any new student to learn: a personal enjoyment and motivation for the subject. Exams are everywhere these days but it is important to remember that an exam is only a method for determining how much you know and if you can find yourself genuinely excited and eager to discuss what you know you are half-way to passing that exam.

Personal Description:
I offer a one-to-one tuition service to AS/A-Level/degree-level students in English Literature. I am a patient, friendly person who can inspire and motivate students to achieve their goals. I can offer:

A planned programme of in-depth reading & textual analysis sessions to help understand texts thoroughly
Exam coaching and testing
Advice and written feedback on drafts of coursework/essays/dissertations

I am not a traditional secondary-school teacher. I wrote a PhD in English Literature at King's College London (1998-2003) and I have taught graduate-level students at KCL and Royal Holloway. I can offer an independent and adult approach to learning English. I like the challenge of making the subject interesting and engaging for those students who are struggling to see the relevance of reading books from 200 or 300, or even 400 years ago.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a graduate tutor (KCL and Royal Holloway, London) and one year's experience working as a private tutor. I also work as a freelance writer, editor and a personal assistant.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to treat each student as an individual. In an initial consultation, I like to get to know my student, to discover their interests, their personality and their job/career aspirations. I try to discover as much as possible about my student's previous learning and teaching experiences. I encourage them to self-reflect on what it is they find most difficult in studying English. I take a very structured approach to lessons, taking into consideration levels of ability. I set small achievable specific tasks and questions (for example about topics/themes/questions that will arise in an exam paper). I think it is important to give my students the basic knowledge and skills they need, but then also to stretch their intellectual capacity by exposing them to more challenging ideas and material. Above all, I am tutor who is also a learner. There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers in studying English. But the ability to write a cogent and supported argument in an exam essay is achievable with effort and practice.

Personal Description:
I am a retired scientist. I worked as a senior scientist for a major pharmaceutical company for more than 30 years. I hold a first class hons degree in chemistry, a degree in maths and a post graduate degree in organic chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully tutored students at GCSE and AS/A levels for many years. Currently I am coaching AS/A level students from AQA,OCR A / Salters, EDEXEL and IB boards.

Most of my students improve their grades at least by two levels.

Messages from past students:

15th June 2014:

It has been a pleasure to meet John, I was apprehensive about using a tutor from a website, but luckily for my daughter and I, when asking around both at the school and elsewhere no one knew of anyone they could recommend.

My daughters confidence in chemistry, and her faith in getting the grade she needed to achieve her aim, in doing bio chemistry at university, came on in leaps and bounds.

I would be only too happy to recommend John as a tutor, as he follows up on his pupils, rings them in his own time to check how they did in their tests and exams, his pupils and their results are his top priority.

Thank you so much John, carry on the good work, I know you will.

Valerie, Stevenage.

John has been my daughter's Chemistry tutor for the last 6 months. We have found him to be very knowledgeable and helped her to understand concepts better. He also is very good in explaining difficult topics and also navigating through revision papers and explaining what needs to be done to improve grades. He is very patient and kind which sets him apart. My daughter is an AS student and this has reflected in her grades and confidence. He is an outstanding teacher and I have no hesitation recommending him.

Murali, Letchworth Garden City

Comments: John has been great for the few weeks he has been helping me out, his knowledge of all the main syllabuses is extremely detailed, which comes into play very well when linking knowledge between each of the modules, perfect for the exam questions posed on A level Chemistry. Very professional and approachable, John insists you make use of his guidance and knowledge whenever need be and that he is always available to assist you in your studies. I feel extremely confident thus far that I can achieve the grade I need with John's help.

16th August 2013:

Hope you and your family are well and you are all enjoying India! We had a wonderful time in India and returned on Saturday night. I tried to call you yesterday and my mum reminded me that you must still be in India.

I achieved A*AA! I got the A overall in Chemistry that I wanted. I am now accepted into St George's University of London and will be started from 23rd September.

A HUGE thank you for all your help over the past year in guiding me with my Chemistry A Level and I hope to see you on your return from India.

Many thanks,

John has helped my son with Chemistry A level since October last year in order to get his Grade from a C to a B. Since working with John, my son's grades have improved tremendously - even to a Grade A in one of his exams this January. John tailors his tutorials exactly to the needs of the student, taking time to ensure that each area is fully understood. My son's teachers noticed a difference in my son's classwork within weeks of seeing John, commenting that his confidence and understanding had improved even at that early stage. I have no hesitation recommending this tutor, and hope to continuing working with him leading up to this Summer.

Keiran, Baldock.

John has been helping my son with his A levels in chemistry and since then my son's confidence has grown and we have better hopes of my son achieving an A or B grade in chemistry. John works well with my son when teaching and he takes time to explain difficult tasks . i am pleased with John's teaching skills so far and i would gladly recommend him to any one looking for a chemistry tutor and i think his price is fare too.

Tayo, Stevenage.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to work on areas where the students need specific attention rather than systematically going through the whole syllabus. I encourage students to work out past papers giving special attention to appropriate mark schemes. So it is very much hands-on, ensuring that the students have fully understood the fundamentals so that they have full confidence in handling the questions.

Having attended some of the most academically intensive institutions in the country, I am well suited to provide academic support and guidance to those wishing to improve their achievement, from primary to degree level.
I believe that the role of a private tutor is to create a tailor made, interactive and stimulating environment in order to help students grow and explore within their subject. I believe instilling confidence is key to this approach - I am a patient, friendly and approachable tutor and work hard to encourage an atmosphere in which honest discussion and a lack of self consciousness when learning are paramount. I provide support for all aspects of learning, from discussing homework to improving core skills.

I am familiar with exam board requirements for each subject, and as a tutor work towards success in exams, but also towards a greater enrichment above and beyond curricula.

Personal Description:
Retired, deputy headteacher of a primary school in London. Aged 59. I have two children of my own, aged 12 and 14.

Teaching Experience:

Taught in primary and secondary schools for 34 years. Over 20 years experience as a deputy headteacher. Have taught the full age range of primary school but mostly KS2 (age 7-11). My main role over the last 15 years has been a Year 6 SATS teacher so I have lots of experience for SATS preparation. I also did a lot of work in booster groups in Maths and English, moving children from level 3 to level 4. I have now been tutoring for a year with children aged between 7 and 14. For the last 3 years I have been a Key Stage 2 SATs marker.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim is to improve the ability of the children in the subjects chosen. Most of my tutees find the one-to-one personal touch invaluable because it allows me to quickly identify the areas of difficulty and devise a learning programme to meet these at a pace which the tutee finds comfortable. Many of the parents have commented that one-to-one sessions have rapidly improved the tutee's confidence and has frequently resulted in them being moved up groups in the classroom. Other parents have asked me to prioritise my teaching time working with their children on school homework. I like to create a friendly but purposeful atmosphere. I always give time to the parents at the end of each session so they are kept completely informed about my aims and strategies. I have years of experience and all the relevant materials to support the children in these subjects.

Personal Description:
My name is Aashna and I am a 2nd year medical student at University College London.

I am academically strong in these subjects as I studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and History to A-level. I am also happy to tutor for Medical entrance exams and interview practice. Contact me for more details.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for last 3 years. In this time I have tutored numerous students from the age of 8 up to 18. In all cases the students performed very well and got great results

I have previous experience with several A-Level and GCSE students one-to-one for the above subjects privately as well helping students with interview practice and entrance exams in group settings.

Having also previously worked with younger students (aged 8-14) teaching kumon and mentoring younger students individually in secondary school, I feel confident working with a range of group sizes and ages..

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my approach to supplement the student's education at school by allowing them to tell me what they are currently studying and what they are struggling with, so I can go over it with them step-by-step at their own pace.

I am also willing to prepare each lesson specifically based on whatever the student wants me to. Students are welcome to contact me via e-mail to inform me of these and can ask for advice or any help.

A Lot of practice is done through past papers and the exam techniques are discussed and explained in detail.

Personal Description:
I am a budding trainee teacher, and I need to build up my experience of teaching different key stages of English. English is rich in literature and language that I believe are underestimated, I want to be a teacher to help children and teenagers connect an interest in the subject. I am 22 years of age and need to build my experience but I also wan to help people that are struggling and need the support for exams they may be taking or if they are just genuinly struggling to with the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor befor for my friends Polish daughter whom came to England and was struggling to keep up with alot of her school work. I helped her to be able to read English books and understand grammer, punctuation and spelling she would need to develop. I am doing a placement at Bitterne Park school in June and am on the 'School Direct' course in September 2016.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in the first session setting up a group of tasks, ie a spelling test, having them look at a piece of written work and have them pick out the mistakes and have thechild write a short story and reading to me, Then I can evaluate the areas they need to work on. I create a timetable of different sessions to concentrate on these areas by also setting small pieces of homework and reading tasks.

Personal Description:
My name's Danielle and I am 23 years old. I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Bsc Honors in Nutrition, Exercise & Health in July 2012. Since graduating I spent a year working at a Blackpool Primary School, assisting with teaching and after school club activities. I have lots of experience working with children age 4-11 years old. The last 18 months I have spent in Australia working for a private medical practice which was the second largest in Australia. I worked within the finance department and also shadowing the nutritionists as they treated their own clients. During my time there I gained valuable experience working within a clinical healthcare setting, also working with a variety of clients from different cultures and ethnicities. I have confidence in speaking to groups of people in presentation format, a skill i enhanced during my time in Australia. This i take into my approach to tutoring. During my time in Australia i tutored my younger family members throughout there final years at high school. I tutored Maths, Biology and English but have a vast knowledge of P.E and sports science in particular nutritional science.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for a year at a Blackpool Primary school where i enhanced dramatically my knowledge and skills working with young children. I gained one on one experience working with children aged 4-11 years old. I have the confidence and patience required in order to work on this basis with children of all educational levels. I have experience mentoring and tutoring young adults through their high school years.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an extremely patient and understanding young individual. I have a relaxed and gentle approach to teaching and mentoring as i feel you don't get very far adopting a strict approach, especially where young adults are concerned. In order to work as a team there has to be a level of respect no matter what the age difference, therefore i deem a soft friendly approach far more successful. I like to build a friendship with those i tutor/mentor as past experience has proven this the most effective method (regardless of age).

Personal Description:
I am a cheerful, dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, with a variety of teaching approaches to suit every learner! I am currently working as a primary school supply teacher in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, and am due to start a permanent teaching position in a special school in September. My hobbies include reading, listening to music and walking. I have a friendly, approachable manner and am keen to help others whenever I can!

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my degree, I have worked with children and young people aged between 4 and 25. Whilst at university, I worked mostly in mainstream schools, and worked closely with the staff within the school to create a positive learning environment. Since qualifying, I have been working as a supply teacher, planning and delivering all areas of the curriculum and working with children to consolidate their learning and improve areas they may find difficult. I particularly enjoy teaching maths and English and have taught all year groups within the primary phase.

I spent last Summer working at Camp Lee Mar, a residential special needs camp in America. Here, I worked closely with children and young people with special needs, focusing on their individual tutoring needs and ensuring that they maintained their academic levels throughout the Summer, and that they were confident in their ability to achieve.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that all children and young people have different needs, and as such each tutoring session must be approached differently. However, I also believe it is important to instill the confidence within every child to believe in themselves and enjoy learning. I have worked with many children who suffer from low self esteem and try to overcome this with fun lessons that provide children with the opportunity to celebrate their successes. I encourage children to ask questions when they are unsure, with the reassurance that no question is a stupid question!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

I am a friendly, fun and experienced tutor. I believe a healthy dose of humour and kindness is important when teaching and I am a very professional and hard working person.
