Personal Description:
I am a professional, friendly and enthusiastic qualified teacher. I teach part time and deliver private tuition as it balances well with my family commitments. As a child I struggled with some basic skills at school and needed extra tuition myself, so I can appreciate how my students feel in this pressurised age of results and targets.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 11 years. I started teaching English as a Foreign Language in Prague, Tokyo and finally Paris and fter three years, I returned to the UK to take a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in Modern Foreign Languages. I taught French and German to GCSE level for four years before deciding to become a supply teacher and personal tutor. I spent 2010/2011 teaching Year 6 French and English, preparing the for their literacy SATs. This Year however I taught a full Year of Year 6 and guided the class through the new SPAG (Spelling and Grammar) test as well as their reading exam and assessed writing.

In French at Key Stages 3 and 4, I prepared students for their GCSE reading, writing, speaking and listening assessments. I marked their final written papers and conducted their oral exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to each student is wholly dependent on their age and level. If a child needs tuition, they are likely
to be falling behind at school, suffering from low self-esteem and maybe embarrassed by needing help. My approach is always a sensitive one and my focus is to build a strong and trusting relationship. Many children struggle at school because of a single misunderstanding and once this 'blockage' is cleared, they gain confidence and flourish. Other children may be behind because of changing schools or missing school due to illness, which requires a more practical pro-active approach.

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I am a language specialist who combines extensive experience with expertise in planning and teaching modern language courses. All tuition is personalised and learning material is carefully selected in order to produce a course which suits the individual's level, learning aims and learning style. I use a wide range of material and approach which enables rapid learning as well as giving variety and interest.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a freelance language tutor for the last 12 years following many years running and teaching english courses in this country and in France and Italy. I now specialise in teaching English language and French to GCSE/AS level and Italian to degree level. I provide support for the school curriculum and preparation for public exams - particularly English language GCSE, French GCSE and Italian at all levels, including IB Ab initio. I also specialise in teaching adults who require French or Italian for holiday or general interest purposes. I have been on the panel of examiners for the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations and have marked for Edexcel and OCR.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach a broad range of students and always aim to establish a good personal rapport with students and to put together an effective, enjoyable learning programme which provides exactly what is needed in terms of content, pace, learning style etc. If students are preparing for public exams, I track the requirements for the relevant exam board at the appropriate level. In general I make a point of using a wide range of up to date and specially written material in order to create effective and interesting learning programmes which enable the student to make fast progress in the target language and enjoy the learning process.

Private tuition is immensely helpful for school age students: it enables them to fill gaps in their knowledge, clarify unclear areas and enforce what they have already learned. They expand their general understanding of language and this can have a knock on effect in other subject areas - all of which considerably increases their confidence levels.

I also specialise in teaching adults who very much appreciate the 1:1 situation and the progress which they are able to make in a relatively short period of time.

Prices given are guide ones: fees reduce the longer the session/the more sessions taken. Typically a one hour session at GCSE level is charged at 28. Adults learning French or Italian currently pay 40 for a one and a half hour session. More advanced levels and sector specific language are charged extra.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Oxford University in 2011 with a degree in Experimental Psychology, specialising in 'Educational Psychology'. I currently tutor as well as run a study skills company where I visit schools in London, teaching students how to maximise their potential through various unique learning techniques. I love teaching, and the satisfaction of helping my students reach their goals; I welcome students of all abilities and motivation types. What sets me apart from most is that as well as tutoring my students, I take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. I have had a lot of experience in private tuition, with a range of students benefiting from my support with 11+ exams up to Degree level. I am very lively and approachable, providing a warm environment in which to learn!

I am able to tutor:

Degree level Psychology (including help and guidance with essays/assignments/dissertations; proof-reading etc)

A-Level - Mathematics, Geography, English (Literature/Language), Psychology and Media Studies.

GCSE - most subjects including Mathematics, English, Science, History, ICT, French and Geography.

For students applying for Oxbridge, I am able to provide valuable advice on interview techniques and personal statements, as well as provide contacts to graduates from Oxford University from a range of subjects. I am also able to tutor students for entrance exams e.g. 11+.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored extensively at Primary, GCSE, A-level, and Degree level with excellent results. Examples include a student who moved up from a D in A-Level Psychology to a very high B. Another gained almost an A* in her English GCSE after being tutored by me for just a month, a huge improvement from the C/D level she was at. I am currently tutoring students ranging from 11+ common entrance exams to A-level Mathematics and Psychology degree level. I have taken part in several mentor schemes where I supported students with their academic problems in Mathematics, Science and English.I have also hosted group tuition sessions, and regularly run study skills workshops in schools around London.

Studying 'Education and Psychology' as my specialist subject during my degree has meant that I have a range of techniques that I apply to my teaching - these are based on biological/neuroscience/psychological findings in an educational context.

Tutoring Approach:

I spend a lot of time planning for sessions so that my students get the very best out of each lesson. My approach is thus very organised, with small goals set per session, as well as a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as this is the key to successful teaching. Past papers are also definitely a step in the right direction, as well as looking at the syllabus/specifications for the subject.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a BSc in Speech Sciences at University College London, to become a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. My degree includes modules in child language development, psychology, linguistics and phonetics. I am also currently completing a master course in teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I originate from Kent, and am enjoying London and university life. In my spare time I enjoy horse riding, skiing and socialising.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored children prior to their 11+ grammar school entrance exams, with positive results. I have also tutored pre-school and reception children in reading and writing, and older primary aged children in literacy and science support. In my home town in Kent, I have worked as a nursery nurse, caring for children aged 2-4. In the school holidays, I run a holiday club for primary aged children (5-11), where my roles include leading activities and proving an interactive and dynamic environment for the children. For my degree I work with children, assessing their articulation, language skills and development. My mother is a primary school teacher and I often assist in her lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is important to gain a student's trust if you are to have a successful teaching relationship. I understand that children lose concentration easily and try to tutor in an interesting and fun way to hold their attention.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Classics at Bristol University and am going into my third year. My friends, family and tutees would consider me an approachable person, very patient yet hard working. I am a keen sportsman, playing football and rugby to a high level, and would say that sport is my main passion. I have experience as a football coach and referee for children up to the age of 13, and this coupled with tutoring has given me a lot of time to work with kids.

Teaching Experience:

I have much experience in tutoring for my youngest brother (age 13) and his friends, having taught them for the past three years. This has been particularly the case with regard to their Commen Entrance exams which they have just completed. This has mainly been in Latin, which I consider my strongest subject, but I also have in depth experience in Maths, History and Geography at this level, for which I have made concise and easy notes for my pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to try to encourage confidence in the tutee and make them see that they can get things right by themselves, without me having to tell them. I therefore feel it is important to urge the tutee to attempt questions first before I help them out. Of course I would not let the pupil feel embarrassed at not knowing something, but I like to spoonfeed as little as possible, as I feel this is good preparation for exams.

With my own revision I have always felt it important to make concise and clear notes; I have also done this for tutees, taking their notes home and summing up everything they need to know in a manageable and easy way. For Common Entrance especially I have concise notes in Latin, History and Geography and can make more easily.

I have graduated from Warwick University with a degree in Classics. I have also spent 5 months in France working as an au pair, whilst attending a French University. I also have a business qualification from Quest business school. I am very enthusiastic and enjoy interacting with children and adults. I have just completed a 60 credit course in psychology and starting in October I will be studying at Cambridge doing an Mphil in Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a teacher with the British Council in China last year on a 10 month contract. I was responsible for classes of 65 children. I have a TEFL in China qualification. In addition I prepared smaller groups for interviews at foreign universities and for their TOEFL and SATS exams. I also did some part time work for English First where I taught adults business English. I have spent time working in schools throughout my life, in the nursery and then preparing children for their French GCSE. When I worked in France as an au pair i taught the children in the family English and also tutored another children in the town.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic and I like to be as imaginative and interactive as possible when I am teaching. I like to discuss topics and encourage my tutees to talk as much as possible and give me their thoughts on topics. Depending on the subject and focus I generally tend to have a fairly structured approach with room for deviation. I am very open to feedback and suggestions.

Personal Description:
I am a highly dependable, confident and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. I attended a prestigious private school were I obtained an excellent academic record and was appointed a Prefect in my penultimate year, as well as Deputy Head Girl in my final year. I am currently reading English Literature at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle and English has always been a passion of mine, forming an important part of my early life. As a child, my parents had their own business and I was often at a loss for something to do as they were always busy - so I started reading...and the rest is history! In short, I fell in love with books and I am keen to ignite that passion for English in other people. Learning English should not be 'boring' or all about 'hard words' and Shakespeare, it's about using your imagination and indulging in the wonderful characters and worlds that have been created for us to enjoy. Of course, getting good grades at exam level is important, too. However, I believe that really enjoying and appreciating a subject helps your attitude towards the exam. My aim is to help you to enjoy the subject that you study!

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is mainly peer-to-peer in my university seminars. During my time at school I gave up free periods in Sixth Form to assist GCSE Drama students with technique during their lessons in preparation for their exams. This was challenging but very rewarding! I truly believe in helping people to understand things so that they can start to enjoy them and improve their skills. Our A-level English Literature class was very small, with only four students, we would often split off into two pairs and explain our various ideas and interpretations of texts we were studying to each other, this helped me to realise that learning should not be one sided, it is a process of interaction and exchange that is most effective and enjoyable.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly, approachable and patient. I will do my very best to assist you in your enjoyment of the subject!

Personal Description:
I am currently completing the final year of my degree at Kingston University studying English Literature with Creative Writing. I am British but I grew up in Hong Kong and Thailand. I have been living in the U.K for seven years now and have a TESOL qualification certified by Trinity College, which is one of the highest acclaimed foreign language qualifications. I achieved A's for English in my GCSE's and a B at A-Level. I grew up in a big family and I enjoy interacting with adults and children.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) qualification, certified by Trinity College, in 2010. During my time on the course I had the opportunity to teach intermediate & advanced classes of mixed nationalities and ages as well as tutoring one to one. Since then I have taught English to hotel staff in Thailand, where I was the only teacher. I was in charge of teaching five different classes a day; engineers, reception staff, kitchen staff, waiting staff and gardeners. Many of these groups spoke next to no English and it was up to me to arrange the content and structure of every lesson.
In 2011 I was a volunteer at Kamala School in Thailand with the organisation 'Phuket be Good to Us'. I helped out in the after school English programme for underprivileged children who had lost their families to the 2004 tsunami. We helped to improve their English language skills through fun activities like skateboarding, snooker and arts and crafts.
I have been tutoring with great success through uktutors.com for a year now, teaching both children and adults.
I have also been volunteering at a primary school in Wandsworth, where I work with ESL children and children with behavioural difficulties, teaching maths and english.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin tutoring sessions with an informal meeting where we get to know each other. Tutees will complete a language assessment questionnaire which will help me determine what level they are at. By finding out tutee's strengths and weaknesses as well as what they want to achieve, I can create lesson plans beneficial to their learning.

Personal Description:
I graduated with a 2:1 in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic from Cambridge University in 2010. The course included modules in history, politics, literature, and religious studies, as well as Arabic language. I spent the third year of my studies living in Damascus, Syria, and speak the Syrian dialect, as well as having a solid grounding in Modern Standard grammar.

My A-levels were in English Literature, Philosophy & Ethics, French, and History (AAAB), and I also took an AS-level in Spanish (A). I have lived in France and Spain and speak both French and Spanish to a high level of fluency. I was also raised bilingual with English and Italian.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to tutoring family friends in Italy over the summer holidays (in English), I've exchanged English and Spanish lessons for Arabic lessons. I also taught English to two groups of 20+ Arab teenagers at a high school in Israel from September - December 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in cultivating a vigorous work ethic in students, which is best done through close supervision and encouragement. The work covered will involve both the curriculum required by the student's course as well as helpful extras tailored to the student's abilities and personality. I will provide these extras to increase the student's understanding of the subject and help him/or her reach a standard of excellence that will be noticed by teachers and examiners alike.

I find the most common problem students have is not with the subject itself, but with the teacher or the insufficient attention they get in the classroom. A stress-free but diligent approach will allow us to build trust, which will give the student renewed confidence in his or her abilities. Students who push themselves with me will be rewarded for their hard work by realising that the subject they once dreaded is actually really enjoyable when approached from a new angle.

Personal Description:
Passionate, articulate and analytical 20 year old looking to tutor History and English up to GCSE level.

I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Gloucestershire in my second year, studying History. I have a deep passion for this subject that I have fostered since primary school, and wish to pass this zeal on to future generations. Therefore, I have an aspiration to become a secondary school teacher upon graduation, and so would like to build experience teaching History before taking the plunge into full time teaching through tuition.

To me, a career is not gauged by the pay, but by the reward you reap from it. To see somebody progress academically and know that it is your knowledge and skills that is propelling them forwards through life and achieve their absolute best is perhaps the most fulfilling reward somebody can gain.

Teaching Experience:

None as of yet, due to currently being in full time education. However, as a result I have recently experienced current teaching methods and possess a knowledge of the UK teaching system that is, for the moment, up to date.

Tutoring Approach:

My belief in tutoring and teaching is to foster a rapport with the student, and therefore build academic progression from it. Leading a horse to water but not being able to make them drink has never been more true in the case of teaching and tuition, and therefore an easygoing and trusting professional relationship is key. To me, this can be achieved by recognising and praising success and progression, and a pragmatic approach to counter-productivity that ensures that the student is brought back to focusing on bettering their progress without ill-feeling or animosity. Therefore, it is imperative to work in an environment that is focused, challenging but also engaging.

Personal Description:
I am a well qualified and experienced teacher in Maths, English Language & Science. I have taught in various secondary schools for well over 14 years and have also offered one to one tuition in to many pupils in Primary & Secondary schools.

I possess a degree in education and a teacher training certifiate (PGCE) in Maths & ICT.I have successfully helped pupils to gain exceptional results in their subject areas. I am also a National Education award winner.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my experience in education, both studying and teaching, I have realised that not all students are given sufficient attention from the teacher.

This is a problem inherent within the education system. Let me explain. The average school-class consists of approximately 25 students and the average teacher works under tremendous pressures. These include the demands of completing the syllabus, time restraints and teaching students of mixed abilities. For these reasons, it is usually the case that teachers are unable to attend to the needs of each individual at all times.

As a result, it is very likely that some students fail to understand key concepts or even lose confidence in themselves and in the subject. Now I have launched my own personal tutoring service: Private Tuition UK
which is tailored specifically to each pupils requirements.
