Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I have worked in education all my adult life, and ten years ago embarked upon a freelance career which has enabled me to focus on the kind of work I love, and to spend more time with my family, and do the things I most enjoy.

As an English graduate, my greatest passion is literature. I read a wide range of novels, drama and poetry. Authors I have recently enjoyed include Ian McEwan, Philip Pullman, Helen Dunmore, Kazuo Ishiguro... too many to mention!

I spend a lot of time writing and completed a six month course in novel writing with the Faber Academy on which I was delighted to be offered a place. I have had a number of articles and short stories published, and am working on my first novel.

Teaching Experience:

My first job was teaching English to young speakers of other languages during the summer vacations when I was at University - many years ago!

After I graduated in English I qualified as a teacher. My first full-time post was in a sixth-form college, where I taught English at a variety of levels to A-level and University entrance. After two further full-time teaching posts in a 14-19 secondary school and another sixth-form college, I moved into Adult and Community Education. During much of this time I also took on a number of part-time posts, tutoring English, English to Speakers of other Languages, Creative Writing and General Studies in a university extra-mural department, the Workers Education Association and in a number of prisons. I served on the English A-level set books committee of a national examinations board, and have worked as a part-time examiner.

For the past ten years I have been working as a freelance education consultant, trainer and writer. Much of my education consultancy and training work has involved facilitating and coaching young people and professionals in a variety of contexts and a range of subject areas such as communication skills, business writing skills and writing for the media.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer distance and online tutoring, using Skype, telephone and email. When I am working with students in this way I provide them with extensive and constructive feedback on their written work, enabling them to understand how they can improve their coursework and achieve the skills and confidence necessary to write succinct and relevant essays required for examinations. Many of the students whom I have supported have achieved top grades in GCSEs, A-levels and degrees.

I firmly believe that we only learn effectively when we find the learning experience interesting, relevant and meaningful. My first priority is to endeavour to ensure that my students are having that kind of experience! I also believe that learning should be enjoyable and fun. Sometimes, of course, learning is about studying things we are not so interested in just to get through an exam - a means to a hopefully more enjoyable end. In that case I help students to find the most effective ways for them to do just that - and hope that even this might be enjoyable too!

I do not believe that good teaching is about pouring knowledge into students, but is about drawing learning out of them and supporting them to teach themselves. We all have huge areas of strength, skill and wisdom, and I always try to enable students to recognise theirs and to develop them to their fullest potential.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT WRITE STUDENTS' ESSAYS FOR THEM, WHICH I HAVE SOMETIMES BEEN ASKED TO DO!

Personal Description:
I am a fully-qualified professional teacher with around 25 years of experience. I regard myself as a friendly and approachable tutor, as well as honest and conscientious, and I pride myself on being able to communicate with students of all ages, from pre-teen to pensioner.

I have recently finished teaching part-time at an independent school in Sutton. I am now fully available for tutoring English (11+, 13+, Ielts, GCSE, A-level, IB) plus Spanish and Government & Politics (GCSE, A-level, IB) in the borough of Sutton and close by. I am also prepared to consider other areas, such as Kingston, Banstead and Epsom, if travelling time is accounted for.

I am happy to report that 14 of my 15 Eleven Plus tutees passed the Selective Eligibility Test (SET) for Sutton's grammar schools in September 2014, and my GCSE and A-level tutees achieved grades from B to A*.

Teaching Experience:

I have some 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience at schools and colleges in the UK and abroad. I have taught and tutored English (including IGCSE, EFL and IELTS) in Spain, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Abu Dhabi, and also for many years in the UK of course. I have worked as a private tutor ever since I started teaching, as I realised that the existing state and private education providers could not meet the demand for high-quality intensive tuition.

I offer personal tuition in English and Verbal Reasoning for those parents whose children are undertaking preparation for the 11+ exams for the Grammar schools in Sutton and Kingston, and Common Entrance (13+) coaching for pupils preparing to enter the many independent schools in the area. My wife and I successfully tutored our own children through these exams, and we are able to do the same for yours. In addition, I give personal coaching for the independent schools' admission interviews.

I also give tuition in ESSAY WRITING and STUDY SKILLS, as my experience has taught me that many students at GCSE and A-level face real problems in these areas. By working together on students' essays, substantial improvements can be made in style, organisation, argument, presentation, and much more. This way, I can teach you how to produce more effective and mature essays, and thus help you to obtain better grades and increase your confidence in producing written work.

Tutoring Approach:

I endorse the humanist approach, and try to make my tutorials as interesting and relevant as possible. I also expect hard work from my tutees, and insist on homework being completed to a satisfactory standard. With every tutee I carry out an initial assessment of their needs and abilities, and my teaching begins from there. This approach appears to be successful, and I can provide references.

Over the past three years I have successfully tutored students for the following schools, colleges, and universities:

Schools: Sutton Grammar, Wilsons, Wallington County, Wallington High, Nonsuch, Whitgift, Trinity, Wimbledon High, Kings School, City of London, Epsom College, Ewell Castle, and several others.

Colleges: Carshalton, Merton, NESCOT, and Kingston

Universities: Manchester, Warwick, City, East Anglia, St Martins, Lincoln, Bournemouth, and several others.

Please note that my fees are very affordable, bearing in mind that I travel to your house. I now charge a flat rate of 32 per hour for every subject for those who pay for four classes in advance (i.e., 128 per month). For those who prefer to pay after each lesson, the rate is 35 per hour. 75-minute lessons are also popular, and these are offered at a discounted rate.

NB: Any classes that involve more than 6 miles travel (round trip) usually incur a small extra charge.

Personal Description:
I am a professional actor and graduate from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been working in the private tuition industry for over seven years for various agencies, most prominently The Tutors Group. Before drama school I worked as a Primary School teaching assistant and drama teacher for two years, after graduating from King's College London with a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) English Literature & Language degree. I went straight to university from Norwich High School for Girls in Norfolk. So I have travelled all the way across England in my pursuit of study! I always wanted to tutor because I knew how I worked for all my GCSEs, A-Levels and my BA, and I was fed up with the media claiming exams were getting easier for kids: teenagers today work super hard, as I did! Tutoring older students also provided a lovely contrast to my Primary School teaching. I am also on the Directory certified teachers for LAMDA examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Dog Kennel Hill Primary School
Teaching Assistant and Special Needs Support
Oct 2008 - Present

During the morning session, I am currently working in a Year One class in this south London school and thriving on aiding the children specifically with their literacy, reading and speaking skills as well as exploring numeracy work.
I lead certain lessons including story time and circle time.
I support key groups of children within the class and am able to use my initiative to plan, deliver and assess their learning in order to encourage progression.
I have vast experience in creating my own resources using ICT, and creating artistic displays to proudly exhibit the children's work.
I have taken courses in Early Literacy Support, encouraging creative and inclusive teaching especially for children with English as an additional language and complex special needs children. I also have training in "Letters and Sounds" Phonics, and "A First Workshop on Autism".
During the afternoon session, I support a child in Year Two with Autism. I plan and prepare all his lessons, working towards targets which I and the class teacher have set for him; these include phonics, counting and social skills. I use music as a reward system for the boy, and his singing has greatly improved his speech quality and communication skills.
I have extensive training in Autistic Spectrum Conditions, undertaken with Southwark, covering various aspects including history, sensory integration and behavioural management.
I work with various children with complex special needs within school, including children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Galactosemia, and have worked closely with speech and language therapists and learning mentors.
I offer one to one support outside of lesson time in the form of music lessons for special needs children; I prepare and provide my own resources and find singing with my students extremely rewarding.
I am in the process of setting up an after-school drama club for Key Stage One students at the school, having directed the infant school Christmas play this and last year.
I have also spent time in Key Stage Two classrooms, focussing on aiding older children with their literacy skills: I particularly enjoyed aiding Year Six students in exploring literary themes and using appropriate critical vocabulary when studying children's literature.

Stage Coach Theatre Arts
Early Years and Drama Teacher
Jan 2009 - Present
I am currently working in the Beckenham Junction branch of Stage Coach: using games and prepared resources, I teach my Early Stages children elementary levels of dance, drama and singing, allowing them to develop their confidence levels both on and off the stage. I have written and directed several productions for the children to perform over the year, showcasing their talents to their proud parents.
Since September I have taken on the role of drama teacher for the elder children aged six to sixteen. Through games, improvisation and text work, my students are encouraged to enjoy and improve their passion and talent for theatre in an open and safe environment.

The Tutors Group
Private Tutor
Sep 2008 - Present
In contrast to my primary school teaching experience, my private tutoring allows me to help young people of an older age and greater intellectual development further their learning.
I teach English Literature and Language, History, Theatre Studies and Classical Studies, from Primary, to GCSE and A-Level, Degree level and beyond.
I aid my students in improving their essay structure, spelling and grammar and discussing key thematic and conceptual elements of their required texts.
I plan and prepare lessons and constantly assess students, ensuring they receive high quality tutorage.

Classroom Teachers
Teaching Assistant
Sep 2008 - Oct 2008
I received thoroughly positive feedback from the schools in which I temporarily taught in the weeks preceding my permanent employment at Dog Kennel Hill; colleagues reported me as reliable, enthusiastic and hard-working, and possessing excellent interaction skills with the children themselves.
I gained vast experience with nursery and reception children, thriving on working with early years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have worked as a private tutor for various agencies and also independently, leading my students through 11 plus, 13 plus, GCSE, A Level, Degree level and beyond. I teach English Literature & Language, Drama & Theatre Studies, History and Classics. I also have plenty of experience in working with much younger students (see my CV for details of my classroom and teaching assistant experience) with English as an additional language. I am a confident and enthusiastic individual, with an acute passion for teaching, and have been working with the Tutors Group for over 7 years now. I have worked as a teaching assistant in an Outstanding inner-city primary school, and before training at drama school was planning to take a post-graduate course in primary school teaching, a desire much encouraged by my class teacher and head of school. I have just graduated from my MA in acting at one of the most prolific drama schools in the country (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School); as an experienced dramatic performer and director, I enjoy effectively using these skills to aid children in their learning, leading to a warm, encouraging and happy learning atmosphere. I rapidly and easily create positive, personal relationships with colleagues and children, and believe education should be a creative and inclusive experience for all.

Personal Description:
Confidence is often the stumbling block for learners, and I always encourage all of my students to feel an early sense of achievement. Enabling students to see real progress quickly is essential to the building of self-esteem. I am very approachable and my style of teaching is relaxed and friendly. I love my job and hope that my own enthusiasm inspires my students to excel. Recently I have added French to my repertoire, for absolute beginners. I am sure French will be as popular and exciting as English has been.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English teacher since 1976. I have taught all age groups, from nursery to A Level. Teaching is a wonderful and totally satisfying vocation. I moved across to tutoring as I felt I could offer all of my experience in this role. Being a teacher is definitely something I was born to do, and I love it.

Tutoring Approach:

Students can learn by either visiting my home or at a distance using Skype. Every student is assessed as an individual and the content of their course tailored to their needs. I test my students periodically to ensure progress is going smoothly; also testing is a good way for students to observe their own progress. We use a variety of materials: books for writing and reading, the computer for visual skills and games, listening and speaking is a major part of the programme for EFL students. Children learn in different ways, and I like to offer my students visual, auditory and kinetic tools, we can see which is most comfortable for the individual. The speed of learning is not as important as the confidence of the individual and their inspiration and motivation to progress.

e.g.teaching partial fractions at 'A' level and finding that a revision of ordinary fractions is required.

Personal Description:
I live in Crawley, West Sussex and have worked in social care since completing my BA(hons) in 2000. I have worked with many different client groups of all ages, spending the last few years in a training role. I am a foster carer to an older teenager and I am just about to start working as a lecturer at a local college.

I am a positive, approachable person who will work hard to help you (and your child) to succeed.

I have just re-read my profile and feel that it makes me sound a little stuffy! I think it contains all of the information a parent/ potential student needs to know but I just want to add that I have a great sense of humour, I love being around children/ people who want to learn, am reliable and a great time keeper.

* I currently have some additional vacancies on a Saturday and weekday evenings*

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a learning support assistant in adult education classes and have completed the introductory to teaching qualification (PTTLS) and the PGCE. I am working in a FE college in Surrey, teaching across levels 1 - 3. I have recently tutored children in literacy and numeracy (KS1 & KS2). I have delivered training to adults with mental health difficulties, adults and children with learning disabilities, trainee teachers, college students and staff who work in social care. I have done this in group settings and on a 1:1 basis. I have also spent time working with the foster children who have been placed with me to improve their academic achievements, in particular, with their reading and writing skills.

I have been graded as 'outstanding' in a recent teaching observation - Dec 2013 and am happy to provide evidence of this

Tutoring Approach:

Learning needs to be fun! I strive to make sessions enjoyable, memorable and interactive because I feel that this is the best way to learn. I like to use different learning methods in my approach and will regularly carry out assessment to monitor progress. Regular progress reports on will be available to you because it is important that you know how well you (or your child) are doing and any areas that need to be focused upon.

Sessions will be individually planned and delivered so best to meet your aims and aspirations. Depending on age and ability, I think it is important that students take responsibility for their own learning and I like to set independent work to be completed at home.

When working with children, I prefer to do this in their own home.

I am currently working in the RH1 area and am happy to provide travel in this and surrounding areas during the week. I am also happy to travel further afield for a booking of 3 hours or more. Please contact me should you require any further information

Personal Description:
I am a private maths tutor, although I teach other subjects too. I am very passionate about the maths, in fact I have studied it at degree level for that reason. I hope to potentially be a maths teacher in future, as I can think of nothing better than sharing the skills that I have learnt throughout my life in education with others and watching my students flourish when they realize the joy of learning. Teaching is a very rewarding and respectable job and if done properly it can mold the lives of many young people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for a tution center part time for a couple of years now, which is open during school term time. I teach up to GCSE level there, focusing on maths, science and English. I also work privately helping those of all ages and abilities, including adult learners as well as children of a very young age.

Although I claim to help up to an A-Level maths standard, I have the ability and experience to help those at university struggling with foundation maths courses, or statistic related modules within most university courses.

Other subjects I teach privately include the social sciences, such as psychology and sociology. However as mentioned maths is my forte.

I have also taken part in a mentoring programme called paired reading, where I helped children in high school who were not reading at their aspired level, reach new heights, which consequently lead to them doing better in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student should feel comfortable with their teacher. Although you have to take a firm approach at times particularly when handling groups or younger children. If a child is apprehensive towards their teacher, they will be reluctant to ask for help, and therefore their hesitation will result in them not reaching their potential. I believe a person can achieve anything if they dedicate the right amount of time to it. More importantly if they show interest in it. As a tutor it is my job to help my students unlock their potential. To show them the real life application of what they are learning and how to apply their new found knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

Personal Description:
I am currently a teacher of English in London secondary school, having qualified in Liverpool.

I previously worked part-time for an MP in Westminster as a researcher. I have varied interests, and later in my career intend to work in international development, especially surrounding the role of education.

My last degree, and MSc in Contemporary India, was a multidisciplinary social sciences degree, incorporating politics, economics, anthropology, international relations and statistics. My dissertation focused on English Language education and social aspiration.

In my spare time I enjoy training for athletics (middle distance and cross country), playing and listening to music, and cycling.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained my PGCE and have passed my NQT year. As well as developing myself as a teaching professional, I am working towards and MA in education to further explore barriers to learning and teaching styles.

I have taught English as a foreign language in India to degree-level students, formulating my own teaching materials. As part of my teaching, I included cultural and geographic content to help prepare students in rural and small town India for employment with multi-national companies.

I have also volunteered as a mentor with the Cardinal Hume Centre in Westminster, coaching young homeless and unemployed people with their English and ICT skills, job searching, and providing motivation.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an experienced tutor, having tutored students with specific needs such as History A-Level revision and essay writing support for university students. My tutoring will be tailored to the needs of the tutee, although at every opportunity I attempt to inspire and excite to engage my students beyond examination specifications.

As I intend to qualify as a full time teacher in the near future, I undertand the importance of preparation. When tutoring, I plan to listen to each student's needs and prepare appropriate assistance and guidance.

Having completed much revision for my degrees and A-levels, I can share my strategies to revise work previously covered, using time management and goals. If a student is able to guide their own learning, I will support and encourage this approach, aiding their independence.

Personal Description:
I am a currently studying for a PhD in early modern history at the University of Birmingham. I graduated from Leeds University with a BA in History and completed my Masters at Birmingham in 2010.

I have a deep passion for history and hope to embark on a career in academia once I complete my PhD.

As well as history, I am very interested in English. I love books and I really enjoyed English lessons at school. I have adopted a multi-disciplinary approach towards my PhD in an effort to combine literature with history.

Alongside my university studies, I work at a successful publishing house as a Department Manager and Project Editor.

I am currently available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6.00 onwards as well as all day Monday and weekends by arrangement.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a freelance tutor for over two years and have had a number of happy clients.

I have completed an 'Introduction to Higher Education Teaching' course through the University of Birmingham and have spent days in local schools to see how pupils are taught. I have experience with one-to-one tuition as well as large group tutoring and am currently teaching undergraduates at Birmingham University.

In addition, I have successfully completed courses on Small Group Teaching and Assessment and Feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

Each pupil is different and approaches learning in a unique way so it is important to establish goals and teaching methods as soon as possible.

I have a keen awareness of the current curriculum and would be able to develop my own material as well as using material provided to the student by the school.

I struggled with History at school and worked incredibly hard to grasp key concepts. My hard work in this subject area has paid dividends and I am now pursuing the subject at the highest academic level. My experience will be of huge benefit to pupils because I can fully appreciate the difficulties and challenges facing pupils in their studies. I firmly believe that my fun, patient and calm approach to teaching will really help students to achieve their maximum potential.

I am engaging and able to interact well with pupils of different ages. I strongly feel that a successful tutor has to be approachable and possess the ability to foster confidence in students.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Having recently been through high school and excelled in both GCSEs and A-levels, I know what it requires for a student to perform to the best of their ability. I am a strong believer that with hard work and the right guidance, most students can go on to achieve excellent grades.

Teaching Experience:

During my A-levels, I have helped teach younger students in Geography and Maths classes, but the majority of my teaching experience has been with my two younger brothers. I have worked very hard with them over the years and take pride in the fact that they too performed exceptionally well at school through my help.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make my lessons interactive, explaining complex ideas in the simplest and most interesting way possible. I strongly believe that student must first develop a good conceptual understanding of the subject before refining their exam technique. I will work hard for my students and expect them to do the same in their studies.

Hi, I am a mature English Language student at the University of Central Lancashire and am mostly available at weekends for tuition up to GCSE standard English Language. As well as working teaching life skills to young adults with learning difficulties, I also help teach IT skills to older people as a volunteer which I hugely enjoy. Personal Description:
I am a born and bred Brightonian with a passion for teaching and learning in English and Media Studies, and extensive teaching experience at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have a first class degree in English Literature from Warwick University, a MA with distinction from Birkbeck College London, and am currently completing a PhD in the department of Media and Film at the University of Sussex. My research interests are in gender and femininity and I have had my research published in two peer reviewed academic journals. I have always loved reading, particularly novels by women authors, and I also enjoy cooking and crafting in my spare time.

Teaching Experience:

I was employed at the University of Sussex as an associate tutor in Media and Cultural Studies from 2011-2012, teaching first year undergraduates, and a visiting lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Brighton in Autumn 2011, teaching foundation and first year undergraduates. I am currently a tutorial fellow in international student support for the department of Media and Film at Sussex, where my role includes teaching media and cultural studies lectures and seminars, convening support for international students in the department, and providing one-one-one essay tutorials with international students at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate study. I have marked and given feedback on written work at a range of levels; I am experienced in grading work against learning outcomes and providing detailed constructive feedback on essay structure and argument. I hold a nationally recognised Associate teaching qualification from the Higher Education Academy.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach involves providing student centred learning; I take my cues from the student and their learning needs and style. This works particularly well in a one-on-one learning environment, as I can easily adapt my approach to best motivate the student and help them improve their work. I have a great deal of experience of working with individual students, particularly those who are struggling with expressing their ideas in written form. I feel it is important for a tutor to be friendly and approachable, and to recognise acheivements as well as areas for improvement. I have received excellent feedback from students and faculty at Sussex as my support has tangibly improved student performance in assessments.
