Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in English, German and Politics with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

I am fluent in German and well informed about German life and culture, having taught and studied in the German-speaking world (Upper Austria and Lower Saxony) for 9 years. I have a working knowledge of other major European languages and like to think of myself as an enthusiastic European with a keen interest in global affairs.

For the last 12 years I have been engaged on a university research and publishing project, based in London and Cambridge, that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce.

A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and curator of exhibitions on contemporary social and political cartoons. I co-edited the bilingual catalogue 'Coping with the Relations: Deutsch-britische Karikaturen von den Fünfziger bis zu den Neunziger Jahren', and co-authored the book 'Deutschland und seine Nachbarn: Briten, Franzosen, Niederländer und Polen blicken auf Deutschland'; both designed as educational resources.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students in English, German and Politics for the last 5 years, as well as working as a business language trainer in firms in the City and West End.

Previously I taught English, German and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language to trainee German teachers of English and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe patience, appropriate pace and empathetic attention to an individual's learning needs are essential for anyone helping others to understand often complex ideas and concepts. I also believe successful learning results from both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. These are principles that inform my role as a tutor.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is borne out by my own experience as a foreign-language learner.

Personal Description:
I am an extremely approachable and down-to-earth person and pride myself on my ability to get on with any individual; in fact I really enjoy working with people from all walks of life! I think that having an affable temperament and approach to tutoring is the most effective way of getting the best results because, as studies confirm, students learn better when they are happy and are enjoying their learning experience. I therefore find it best for students to learn in their home environment where they are most comfortable and I am then able to provide the most effective and enjoyable tutoring experience.

Teaching Experience:

From a very young age I found that I was always good at explaining things to people, and therefore my tutoring started with simply teaching friends at school who were struggling with various subjects, and it has continued from there. In fact I was even heralded a better teacher than my secondary school Maths teacher by several classmates, who apparently preferred my approach to teaching! I went on to tutor a friend to achieve his Business Studies AVCE, then tutored several children of family friends on various subjects at GCSE and key stage 3 levels (years 7-9) during my gap year before university.

Having taken a break to study for my degree I then returned to the profession in 2009. Since then I have achieved excellent results, including an A-Level Business Studies student who went from an E to an A grade, several A*s in GCSE Maths, as well as boosting the confidence and results in young students aged 8-14 who have been struggling with their maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is vital to be a good listener as a tutor and to adapt your tutoring style and approach to the student. If a more visual approach to learning produces better results for a student than it is important to apply such an approach, and equally, for example, I adopt a more conversational style of tutoring for students that prefer more verbal learning techniques. Ultimately, I am a well-rounded tutor who has worked successfully with individuals from various backgrounds and of varying abilities so whatever you are aiming to achieve I will endeavour to help you achieve it!

I have vast experience working with children with dyslexia, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and do not see these as barriers to achieving positive results. I believe every child is different and therefore tailor my approach to the individual in order to achieve the best possible results.

Personal Description:
I am married with four sons and live in Taunton, Somerset. I am interested in gardening, growing vegetables and flowers. I belong to the National Trust and to a town exchange with Lisieux, Normandy. I walk and cycle regularly. I am interested in cooking and reading. We have students who stay with us during the year; they are unable to go home for the weekend or half term because they live in places such as China, Japan or Russia.

Teaching Experience:

I have had many years of experience in primary schools teaching subjects as required, at both KS1 and KS2 and have a particular interest in English, Reading, Mathematics and History. I taught children on Home Tuition from 8 to 16 years; these children were not able to attend school for various reasons, such as health or behaviour. I taught subjects as required, which included Mathematics, English, Science, History, Geography and PSHE. I also taught for four years in a special school teaching EBD students from 8 to 16 years; this included teaching English, History, PSHE, Maths and Science to GCSE; in this post I took responsibility in the headteacher's absence. I have taught students English as a Foreign Language in my home since 1996; these have included children and adults and have had different levels of competence in English including beginner. I have also taught pupils studying for entrance exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have had many years of experience and teach sympathetically; I am very patient. I have a variety of materials for the different subjects and make them as interesting as possible. I adapt my teaching to the individual's needs, whether advanced or those who find it more difficult to learn. I have had much experience of teaching Reading, Handwriting and Spelling and also for entrance exams. Frequently I use a multi-sensory approach and educational games. If it is suitable, I give homework. I can teach two students together if they are learning the same subject. I am very flexible. I teach in a quiet room and the parents are welcome to stay (normally in a room close by).

Personal Description:
I have several years English teaching and GCSE examining experience following my degree and am currently teaching English/English at GCSE, A level and undergraduate level on a private basis. I have recently completed a Master's degree in English which I passed with merit. Although I have many years of experience in GCSE English, I would particularly welcome opportunities in A level tutoring and have just been appointed to a panel of A level English examiners.

Teaching Experience:

I originally taught A Level and GCSE English in FE colleges. Following this I started private tutoring in English at all ages and levels along with some basic Primary maths. More recently my work as an English Literature examiner has enhanced my understanding of student needs and of course the requirements of the GCSE exam syllabus. As I have been tutoring for some time now I am familiar with the varying requirements of all the major exam boards in GCSE and A level English Language and English Literature.

Tutoring Approach:

The greatest thing is seeing the student gain in confidence as their ability grows. One to one tuition enables the student to be honest about problems that are difficult to raise in the classroom at school or college. Consequently the tutor can focus on the individual needs of the student. This is the philosophy I adopt in tutoring. I am very conscientious, approachable and happy to adapt to the needs of the individual student , then watch them thrive.

Personal Description:
Please note that due to very high demand, as of October 2013 I am offering essay/coursework improvement tutoring only. As such, I can only accept short-term requests for essay and coursework coaching, and not longer-term subject tutoring. Thanks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I specialise in essay construction and clear writing styles that achieve good results in exams and essays. Whatever your subject, if it involves any form of written expression, I can help you!

I have lots of experience working successfully with students who need to raise their grades, and with those who just struggle with putting what they know down onto paper. I have worked in education for a number of years, and understand what examiners look for and expect when it comes to exams, essays and coursework.

My most recent success story resulted in a piece of English A Level coursework increasing from a preliminary C grade to a final A grade after just 2 hours of coaching the student.

My first degree is a BA in English from Birmingham University. My Masters degree and further research is in education. I also achieved A grades in my History and English A Levels.

I have a great deal of real-world experience when it comes to self-expression and communication which enables me to help students to be much more than just mechanical exam-passers! This is particularly useful for students looking to move up to higher education.

My prices can be negotiated depending on the help you need, the time I dedicate to you, and your situation. Please don't hesitate to get in touch!

In terms of security and your safety- I have up-to-date, enhanced CRB status - a copy of which I can provide upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching in UK school classrooms to A Level and GCSE standard. I have experience of PGCE theory and teaching skills.

I have been tutoring privately for over 2 years.

I am also a qualified TEFL instructor (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).

I am a trainer in my workplace, and a good communicator who understands different methods of teaching and learning.

I am a trusted and reliable proofreader and editor, and am happy to proof and edit personal statements and other texts on request.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is all about you. I will tailor my tutoring to your needs, likes and dislikes. Improving your skills comes first- as such, every time I tutor, I create a scheme of work specifically suited to the student.

I can travel to you for tutoring, but would expect to be reimbursed for this. I can host you for tutoring sessions if required.

I am more than happy to proof-read and feedback to a professional standard on your essays and work.

Personal Description:
After qualifying as a teacher, following a degree in Psychology at Loughborough University and a P.G.C.E. at Nottingham Trent, I completed my QTS at a small primary school in East Sussex.
In 2004, I moved to Spain to pursue my passion of living and working in a foreign country and I taught in a British school teaching the National Curriculum to a mixture of English and non-English speaking children.
Returning to the UK in 2008, I lived near Kingston-Upon-Thames and worked at Holy Cross Prep. School.
Currently, I am living in Goring with my husband and our 2 children.

Teaching Experience:

At Firle C. of E. School I taught a mixed class of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Although challenging, it showed me the importance of teaching to the individual child's needs.
At Runnymede College, Madrid I began teaching in the nursery, then I taught different classes and groups as a Key Stage One Support Teacher and in my final year I taught a Year 2 class. Learning Spanish helped me to empathise with the difficulties the non-English speakers faced.
During my 3 years at Holy Cross Prep. School I was a Year 2 class teacher. There was a high level of expectation for the academic achievement of the children. In my final year, an (ISI) inspection was carried out and the school was deemed to be 'outstanding'.
I have been working as a private tutor for the last 2 years, teaching a range of ages from year 1 to year 6.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found that a balance of structured work and fun, interactive, educational games, all based on a clear learning objective, leads to the best improvement in understanding. In addition, a good working relationship is essential in order to boost motivation and raise standards. Children learn best when they are interested in the subject matter. It is always beneficial to relate what is being taught to something that the child can connect with.
The first lesson will be an opportunity to learn what your child is capable of, therefore building up their confidence levels, before beginning to work on the areas where additional help is required.

Personal Description:
I am a Shakespeare fanatic with six years' classroom experience. I enjoy reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction and became a teacher to share my passion for language. Now that I have a young family, I have decided to indulge my love of teaching outside the classroom to fit around raising my children. I keep in touch with my former colleagues to stay abreast of the rapidly developing education system.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Grammar schools in Kent, outer-London schools and a wide variety of institutions in Hong Kong. My subject knowledge covers English, Drama and Theatre Studies, and Classical Civilisation (the latter subjects are very useful for approaching English texts in innovative ways). I am most familiar with the new GCSE specification for AQA, but can happily adapt to other exam boards. I am a GCSE English Literature examiner for some boards also. I have experience tutoring 11-18 year olds and have worked with students with a variety of special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I create personalised programmes to fit the needs of individual students and frequently adapt these to incorporate new texts and resources to keep the lessons fresh and relevant. My sessions tend to focus on assessment technique and start with short focused activities, building the skills necessary to complete longer written tasks designed to mimic the conditions of examinations. Alternatively, I can support students with their class work more directly, assisting with homework and helping with clarity of expression in other subjects too.

I aim for students to enjoy our sessions and feel comfortable asking questions; my main goal is to help them improve and I can only do that through honest discussion of issues. I do expect high standards and find that my pupils meet my expectations and gain grades they are proud of, when they apply themselves. Confidence is the key to learning and it is in this area that my students make the swiftest progress, which enables them to access the top grades and enjoy their increasing capability in a subject that at first seemed inaccessible.

For adult learners, I offer programmes that reflect each individuals' interests in language development and present activities in a variety of ways to keep lessons lively and relevant. I find that striking the balance between grammatical accuracy and colloquial usage allows second language students to feel much more confident interacting with native speakers.

I like to have a good rapport with tutees' parents as I feel that learning is a joint initiative. Testimonials from former clients are available upon request. My fee includes all resources (apart from set texts) and the loan of study guides and other useful materials as required.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year old English teacher and have been in full time employment in a secondary school for seven years. I am friendly and supportive. I feel that I do a great job in making a challenging subject easy and accessible.

I am based in Glasgow City Centre and run a tutoring school for Saturday morning classes. If you wish to contact me I will provide full details of my tutoring school and if you decide to join my classes I will fully refund any cost you incur by deducting it from your first fee. (Details cannot be revealed via this profile in order to respect the guidelines of UK tutors).

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English from National 4 and 5, Intermediate and Higher, through to Advanced Higher over seven years. My Department achieves results far higher than comparator schools and well above the national average.
I am one of two managers of Saturday School.

Tutoring Approach:

I have successfully tutored Standard Grade, Intermediate and Higher pupils over the past seven years. All of the pupils have attained the best possible grades.

In order to maximise attainment, my approach to teaching English involves working through the various question types pupils can expect to see in the main exam. For Close Reading I concentrate on: Understanding, by looking at own word questions, the context question and link questions; Analysis, by looking at word choice, imagery, sentence structure, tone and language; Evaluation, by focusing on pupil response and the final question. For Critical Essay, I concentrate on teaching my students how to logically structure an essay, develop skills in learning key quotations and prepare them to write under exam conditions. The folio aspect of the course is addressed after assessing individual pupils and through vital one to one discussions which take place during designated classes and through Edmodo.

I prefer a relaxed environment and pupils whom I have tutored in the past academic years have achieved As in Higher and Intermediate English. I also offer a "Pass Promise".

Personal Description:
An enthusiastic, confidant and experienced tutor, I enjoy working hard and tailoring my methods to bring out the best in tutees. I graduated with a first class degree in Languages (Arabic and Spanish) from Cambridge University.

Teaching has always been an interest of mine: since primary school, whenever I have learnt something I have found myself working out the best way to explain it to someone else.

Teaching Experience:

I have enjoyed teaching students in many subjects including Arabic, Spanish, English, History, and Linguistics. My tutees have ranged from adults learning new languages for professional or personal reasons, to primary school children in need of general help with schoolwork.

I have also taught workshops on Shakespeare and improvised comedy in universities and high schools in Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United States

Tutoring Approach:

Being involved in bringing up my twelve-year-old brother has given me an ease around children and a familiarity with their needs and abilities. I recently completed a year mentoring Rio, a dyslexic eight year old who I am happy to say is now enjoying school much more, and achieving higher marks.

Personal Description:
I first found my love for performance at 5 years old, when i began ballet. Since then, i have always been engaged in performing. Although, as a child i was shy, drama and dance gave me confidence which has since helped me in everything i do, i genuinely feel that whether you love drama or not there is alot that can be gained from taking classes in this area.

Teaching Experience:

During my degree i received a great deal of industry experiance, in drama, theatre, performance and film. Since graduating, it is my work experiance in drama academys and secondary schools that has fuelled my passion for teaching (i have experiance in observing and assistanting in both). This then lead me to independantly begin private tutoring for english and drama. I am familar with current GCSE and A level syllabus and can cater tutoring to complement any academic study you are undertaking.
I can provide industry reccomendations on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I will listen to you and ensure we focus and improve in the appropriate areas. I like to make learning fun, whether its revision or getting that monologue perfected, to do so I use my great knowledge of drama games that practically improve understanding and performance.
I am personable, patient and focussed on achieving your desired results.

Personal Description:
I am a second year undergraduate at the London School of Economics, where I am reading for a BSc in Economics. I attained 11 A*s at GCSE; a 98.2% average at AS-Level, scoring the highest grades in my year; 3 A*s at A-Level, where I achieved 100% in ten of the exams I sat; and a very high first class in my first year exams.

I attended Sutton Grammar School for Boys up until the final year, when I left to pursue private tuition as my full-time occupation, while studying for my A2 exams in my spare time. Following this, I founded Enspire Academy, a tech-inspired 11+ tuition academy that ensures the newest, most effective educational experience for its students.

Teaching others is something I have always enjoyed. Being part of a genuine improvement in a student's performance and confidence is a unique and gratifying opportunity, and I look forward to meeting and working with new students.

- LAMDA Gold Public Speaking and Drama Award
- Jack Petchey Award for mentoring younger pupils and my general contributions to school life
- GCSE Prize & Business Prize

Teaching Experience:

I know what it takes to do well in exams and I really have been through it all: Common Entrance, the 11+, SATS, GCSEs, A-Levels, even University Admission Tests.

Over the past year I've taught over forty students, privately: from four-year-olds with Etonian aspirations, to A-Level students in need of additional coaching, to GCSE students who have fallen behind in class.

I have worked at the Wimbledon branch of NumberWorks'nWords for the past two years now. During my time there I have learned the importance of planning, lesson structure and how technology can be used to enhance a student's learning experience. I also teach Maths lessons at Shine Tutors, an 11+ specialist centre.

Tutoring Approach:

At the start of any session I try to glean what I can by asking students which areas exactly they're weakest in, what they want to work on, what their personal targets are, and then set them a range of problems (based on their curriculum when possible) to locate, more specifically, areas for improvement.

I often set personalised homeworks and mini-tests, to ensure my students have a solid understanding of the key concepts. Recently, I've begun using touch screen technology to engage more actively with my younger students, and I ensure all notes taken are contained neatly and securely in a revision booklet, for easy reference.
