I am a qualified English teacher with a PhD in English Literature from Durham University and an MA degree in English Philology from the Jagiellonian University of Krakow. Language has always fascinated me and imparting my knowledge to others has been a pleasure and a reward. I am interested in Modernist as well as contemporary literature as much as in British culture and geography. I wish to share my passion with my students in order to help them realize that learning a language is not only useful but great fun if taught and approached in the right way.

Teaching Experience:

My English teaching experience covers working for Studio Cambridge, EAC and Anglophiles Academic at their summer camps for students of various nationalities in Cambridge, York, Bath, Bishop's Stortford and Skegness among others. I have also taught at three language schools in Poland and completed teaching practice in three Polish secondary schools. I have been teaching English on a one-to-one basis for the past ten years. I have prepared four students for their A-level examinations, which they passed with flying colours. I have also taught English to children and adults of all levels and with various difficulties (e.g. dyslexia).

For the past five years, I have also taught various modules in English Literature at Durham University and I am happy to provide university tuition for English.

A significant part of my language teaching experience is now also occupied by teaching Polish, which is very close to my heart. I have been teaching Polish to speakers of other languages (both adults and children) for the past six years and I greatly enjoy both teaching online and face-to-face.

As well as a private tutor and university lecturer, I am a translator who is happy to provide interpreting and translation services.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the teacher's method and approach are crucial to the success of every student. Language can be taught in a variety of ways, but the key is to choose the method that is most fruitful in an individual case. Forcing a language in is ineffective and unprofessional. The focus should be on practice rather than theory, though both are necessary for the student to develop their language skills and the tutor needs a depth of knowledge on the subject, as well as plenty of energy and a sense of humour to make the lessons both effective and enjoyable. Theory must always be supported with lots and lots of practice - be it grammar and vocabulary exercises, games, films, music or newspaper articles - anything that will keep the student in touch with the language system. Having fun is a significant aspect of learning a language and it is also important not to neglect any of the macro skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing.

I studied French language and literature at Oxford University from which I graduated with a 2:1. I studied French, Latin and English at A-level.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught children of all age groups, from nine year-olds to A-Level students, in Latin, English, French and Economics. Most recently, I have tutored a thirteen year-old boy, helping him to pass his Common Entrance exams and get into Eton College with excellent results.

I can help anybody with speaking and writing the French language as well as analysing a broad range of French literature. Facts about tuition:

Your children's education is the one thing you should never settle for second best with, and with recent figures showing 40% of London student's having received Private Tuition at some point in the past - it is imperative you give your children the best chance in life by employing the best tutors.

I am not a part-time student, I am not a part-time graduate or even a part-time professional offering tutoring services. I am a qualified teacher heading up a Law Department in a Surrey Sixth Form College, and teach every day. Therefore I know the syllabus inside out, what the examiner expects, and the pedagogy of how student's learn most effectively. My prices reflect the Stirling and first-class standard of tuition offered.

My rates reflect results. I guarantee an improvement in grade and performance (sometimes evident after just several sessions.) My approach to tuition is very exam focused - especially when close to exams or resits. I don't waste time working through a chunky textbook - I work through past papers with students so they know what to expect, how to prepare, and how to get the most marks possible.

But actions speak louder than words:

One GCSE student joined me working at GCSE Mathematics Grade D/E, he hated maths and was dropping through his sets. Within only a few weeks he had jumped up a grade and by the end of the month he was achieving solid C's. Now 3 months on he is consistently achieving at GCSE grade B (and is now sitting GCSE Higher paper), he is top of his class, and realistically he will be aiming for grade A/A* in the Summer.

Another student joined me at the end of 2012. He was privately educated and was on the border of exclusion, his grades were also extremely low. Within only a month this student was off his report card, and his teachers had noticed a change in attitude and performance. Only a week ago, his report showed clear improvements across the board in both effort and achievement, and his core subjects showed a massive turn around. Behaviour had improved also.

Another student was working at GCSE Mathematics Grade D/E and he required a C in mathematics in order to get onto his College Course. The student had attended extra revision classes and had also been privately tutored but there was no significant change in his results with only 6 weeks until his exams. I tutored this student over the remaining 6 weeks. I focused on exam technique and actual specific exam content and the Student received his Grade C (Highest mark possible on Foundation paper) and was consequently accepted onto his course.

Another Privately educated student was on the Dyslexic spectrum and was struggling to meet the gateway grade C in his Mathematics GCSE. The parents had spent extensive amounts of money on private tuition and the school had put on many extra revision sessions - all to no avail. Within the first tuition slot, I had quickly relaised that the conventional teaching methods were having absolutely no effect. I had to customise my approach and actually found that getting the student to draw out the problems was the only way he could understand and remember them. Over a very short period of time (every Saturday for 5 weeks) the student easily hit the required standard and passed his GCSE maths with no issues.

Now about me:

I graduated from Nottingham Law School with a 1st Class Law Degree. My life in academia is solid: I have been a member of the "National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth" since the age of 11; achieved 11 GCSE's (inc. A* English Literature, A* English Language A* Mathematics A*A* Science) of which my English Literature GCSE Exam mark was amongst one of the top 5 marks Nationwide; achieved 5 AS Levels and 3 A Levels (AAA) to which my marks in English Literature and History were full marks. I am a motivational, electric and honest individual, who strives to achieve the best in both myself and those around me.

Furthermore, I always aim to be a positive role model in addition to tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching A-Level Law, Business and Functional Skills (English and Maths GCSE) ,at a Surrey VI Form College. I am also head of the Law Department. This means I also have a current and enhanced CRB check. My past tutoring experience is extensive and spans over 7 years. My experience derives from the many sessions of private tuition I have provided over the years, tutoring at Degree level and predominantly GCSE level (mainly mathematics and English.)

For example, at the moment I am tutoring two brothers (State School) KS3/KS4/GCSE Mathematics who are in year 10 and 8 respectively. I also mentor and tutor a year 8 boy (Whitgift Private School) across the whole syllabus. The year 10 tutee jumped from achieving a grade D/E in the foundation Maths Paper to achieving 100% on the Foundation Papers (a Grade C) and later achieving a grade B in his intermediate Maths Paper (within 3 months.) We aim to achieve an A* on the higher paper for his actual exam. The Whitgift educated tutee was originally tutored 2 hours a week (originally intended for one month) but after clear improvements across the board (both academic and behavioural) this was doubled to 4 hours a week and has continued indefinitely.

Taking into account all my past (7 years worth) and present tutees - I have taught both genders at every age (8 - 18) across all my subject specialisms. This gives me extensive private tuition experience. This comes at a premium in our profession, and is generally more valued than even the most impressive educational background or academic achievements.

My most recent degree level tutee (mature student) describes me as providing a "unique, interesting and intuitive tutoring experience" and assures me from her experience that a tutor in the very heart of academia is all the more useful to a tutee than an old Cambridge professor completely out of touch with a modern syllabus. I also recently tutored and mentored a Saudi Prince through the first year of his Law Degree at Nottingham Law School and he stated he couldn't have done this "without me." I am used to teaching students who have English as a second language, students with learning difficulties (ADHD, Dyslexia) and also Gifted and Talented student.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a modern and pragmatic approach to academia, having recently left University, higher and secondary education. My understanding of what a pupil is "going through" makes my style of teaching all the more useful, as a good rapport between pupil and student will be built. Furthermore, my extensive revision material is the latest and the best. This is due to the fact my resources are second to none.

With regards to Degree level Law - I am happy to assist in any particular areas of difficulty that may span exam preparation or coursework. I am also happy to read through the latter and make recommendations. Having competed in several Nationally esteemed mooting competitions this is an area where I feel my tutoring excels.

I feel it is essential for both tutee and parent to see tangible results from tuition. My approach is very exam based, primarily as I feel it is the best way to learn, and that it increases exam confidence, but also that it offers a medium whereby improvements can be gauged. All my students have shown significant improvements and I operate on a 100% pass rate. I feel every student is capable of achieving full marks, and with the right structured approach and effort - they can and will be achieved.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified IT specialist and taught Computing and IT at secondary school. I am currently working as a tutor within schools and privately teaching English, Maths, Physics and IT. I am very patient, and approachable. I have years of experience working with both young people and adults, as in the past I was responsible for the training and development of 30 staff. I have carried out training needs analysis and recognized training and development resulting from the gaps identified. I helped the organisation to achieve both Investors In People and Charter Mark awards.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 15 years experience training and development of employees in an organisation, working with consultants to develop training courses and workshops for the staff. I have taught very successfully for over 5 years in schools and have got really good feedback from students and parents. I am passionate about teaching and committed to helping students make real academic progress. I take a holistic view, I am supportive and sensitive to the students/tutees needs. I am able to work with tutees with special educational needs as I will differentiate resources accordingly. I generally agree and set targets, which are regularly checked to ensure progress towards the learning outcome. In tutoring, resources are tailored to meet the learner's needs. Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for over four years and currently have twenty students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. I currently work at a secondary school as a Learning Support Assistant and help pupils with their school work and homework. HISTORY
I have helped students move up one or two grades, and get into university. I can help with source analysis, essay writing, coursework. I am happy to look over essays, explain topics, and write exam notes at any level up to Year 13.
TOPICS: Interwar Britain, American 19th - 20th Century Weimar & Nazi Germany, Mao & Modern China, Enlightenment, French Revolution & Napoleon, Mussolini, International Relations 1918 - 1936, World Wars One and Two, and Russia 1885 - 1924. As part of my Politics course I have studied Marx, Burke, and J.S Mill, which are useful in providing peripheral knowledge.

ENGLISH
I am happy to work with any school set text, discussing key themes and the use of complex literary devices. I can assist in creative writing, Practical Criticism, and make English revision easier by encouraging organisation of notes into themes and forms.
I have the most tutoring experience in English, and books I have worked with include Of Mice and Men, Arthur Miller plays, Lord of the Flies, and Shakespeare sonnets and plays.

CREATIVE WRITING
A specific skill of mine is helping students craft stories, structuring their work and using visual stimuli to become more creative. I have developed a particular approach which will then be useful to all creative writing assignments, that involves reading extracts from the great authors to enhance vocabulary.

ELOCUTION
I have studied vowels and consonants at a detailed theoretical level during my nine years doing exams with the board London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA). I can help foreign or domestic students pronounce words clearer, practice for debates, and public speeches, and am patient and encouraging to get rid of any nerves. LAMDA also gave me acting experience and so I am happy to run lines for a play or a poetry reading.

ELEVEN PLUS
I am happy to help with Maths, Verbal Reasoning and English, and I am familiar with 11+ books.

English as a Foreign Language

I very much enjoy tailoring sessions specifically to each student I teach. I enjoy the satisfaction tutoring brings when the student gains a new understanding of their subject and when we unlock potential together. Confidence is key and I enjoy seeing this grow throughout our sessions.

I have been a professional theatre actor and freelance drama teacher for ten years. As an actor, my passion for language helps me to understand and analyse literature, and I enjoy applying my politics degree to the work of playwrights. I am an English teacher of thirteen years' experience who holds degrees from the universities of Sussex, London and Kent, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education. In addition to teaching, I am an active researcher and academic writer, with specialisms in modernist literature, 19th-century realism, and existentialist philosophy. I write regular online articles on George Orwell, the subject of my thesis, and am currently seeking publication of my first book, which explores existentialist motifs in his writing. Hi, my name is Hikari! Living in Japan during my undergraduate university years, and learning how to speak to my family in Japanese, has been very influential in my understanding of the struggle to learn a language when it is not your first. In addition, I have learnt how important and enjoyable it is to learn about other cultures and celebrate diversity. I have been lucky enough to travel to different countries and cities. Throughout my academic learning I have had a passion for literature, which has been further spurred on by a renewed love of children's literature, and its use in storytelling and shared guided reading. I also enjoy theatre, art galleries, and film, which has meant that I can utilise what I know in order to teach children about different forms of artistic and literary expression, which only deepens a love of learning, in and out of the classroom.

I'm a primary school teacher currently working, and have been supply cover teaching for a term across London, and have been a class teacher for two years in south east London, as well as tutoring in the evenings. In addition to my profession, my subject knowledge is broad and substantial to teach a variety of subjects at different ages, with the organisation and planning efficiency to know that I can conduct and produce effective accessible lessons, with the day to day work balance I have at school. Organisation and efficiency are essential to produce the time and space to plan and evaluate lessons, so that progression is happening in my teaching and planning. My experience of learning a second language at 18 and teaching several children with EAL, means that I can teach and make approachable several subjects to a child whose first language is not English.

Furthermore, I have learnt Japanese to an advanced level, which was a requirement to graduate at my university, and so I am able to teach the language up to a conversational level, with similar standards to how I was taught, in addition to using my own teaching of language, of which I have two years of experience so far in.

Tutoring individual students would be a privilege and a responsibility I welcome and want to pursue, as I know I have the capacity and ability to give lessons, scaffolding, support, and guidance to any child's learning journey. I am tireless in my passion to educate others, regardless of age or background. We all have the essential need and desire to learn more.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide range of experience working with children within both KS1 and KS2. I qualified as a primary teacher 6 years ago and have worked full time in schools in Surrey, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.I have an excellent understanding of the objectives and expectations of the new National Curriculum and I am confident planning lessons to meet every child's needs. I am also familiar with a variety of new assessment tools that schools are using. I have a vast amount of experience preparing children for the year 6 SATS and entrance exams.

I also worked for a tutition company for 18 months. My role was to plan and teach small groups of children up to the age of 13.
