Personal Description:
I am used to teaching students of all ages. I have a first degree in History and English and a masters in Art History. I have been teaching successfully in London for the past 14 years and can honestly say that I have never had a student fail, whether it be for an entrance exam or GCSE, 'A' level or even at University helping with a final dissertation. I enjoy tutoring on a one to one basis and am passionate about my chosen subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at further education colleges in and around London as well as private schools mainly in English and History for G.C.S.E. and 'A' Level students. I am also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University in the Humanities. My main strengths are in private tutoring in which I have been engaged for the past 14 years around London and more recently in Norfolk.

Tutoring Approach:

In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed.

Personal Description:
Having graduated from university with a first class degree reading English, I am passionate about books and literature. I received 79% for my dissertation, where 80% is deemed worthy of academic publication and can provide a reference from my tutor to support this. I am a focused, determined, enthusiastic and willing individual with an aim to help students and adults engage and understand literature and the issues surrounding it.

I am currently employed as an Instructional Designer, building e-learning courses for schools, businesses and individuals. Due to this, I am more than able to teach people how to use Microsoft Office products, having lead and developed an approved ECDL course, which was provided to schools and businesses. The ECDL course consists of basic training on how to use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access, alongside Outlook and the Internet.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a number of individuals using UK Tutors, from Primary level to Masters. In the summer of 2008, I spent nine weeks working with children and adults at a special needs camp in America. This experience was extremely rewarding and taught me the importance of patience and communication. I have recently returned from travelling where I taught at an underprivileged school in Cambodia.

Tutoring Approach:

Studying English Literature allows you to interpret a text in a number of different ways. Therefore my approach to tutoring will be tailored to the individual and their attitude and responsiveness to literature. I am patient and willing to explain things using a variety of different methods to ensure the student has a full understanding of the topic.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

Personal Description:
I am a young and enthusiastic private tutor with more than 5 years' experience, specializing in English Literature. I am familiar with a wide range of literature, including many popular school set texts. I welcome tuition requests from students at all levels and of all ages.

I hold a First Class BA degree in English as well as an MA in Victorian Studies with Distinction, both from the University of Exeter. I am also in my final year of a PhD in Victorian Literature at the University of London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a range of ages and abilities in English Literature, both in the UK and the US. I have tutored children learning to read, primary school children, secondary school students (KS3, GCSE and A level), university students (at BA and MA level), and adult learners (including those studying an online course and those studying with the Open University).

Two years ago I also began giving tuition on English grammar and punctuation to adult learners wishing to improve their business communication skills.

I also have experience of helping teach primary school children to read, write, and improve their comprehension skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is tailored to each individual students according to their needs, following a consideration of their strengths and weaknesses in the course of the first two sessions. This enables me to teach and enthuse each student. When students are shown different ways of looking at a text, and ways in which it relates to their own lives, literature becomes much more accessible, encouraging them to study and achieve better academic grades.

Extra tutoring gives students individual attention beyond the scope of the classroom, and offers an opportunity to look at set texts in more detail, and at the right pace.

Improving students' confidence is central to my approach to tutoring. With individually tailored tutoring, determination to succeed, and improved confidence, my students are able to achieve excellent grades and reach their full potential.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of the University of Glasgow, holding a First Class MA in English Literature and Film and Television Studies. In addition to my degree, I was also awarded the Robert W. Service Prize and the James Boswell Bursary, both granted for academic excellence.
In addition to my academic achievements, I am also a widely published author of novels and short stories, with books available in all good bookshops. In keeping with my passion for film and television, I am a photographer, filmmaker and live performer, and write articles on media developments in Scotland for print and online publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' experience teaching English, Film & TV, Media and reading and writing skills to pupils of all ages and backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to keep pupils engaged with and interested in the subject at hand, as too often it is far too easy to alienate students with excessive rote and routine. I am also a great believer in treating each of my students as an individual, as opposed to adopting a "one-size-fits-all" approach dependent solely on set texts and a given curriculum. Whilst bearing these restrictions and final examinations in mind, I can help students to think laterally and imaginatively, hopefully concluding their studies without having developed a loathing for the subject in question!
I really enjoy teaching: I am passionate about giving something back from my own learning experiences and hope I can be of some help to those who may need a bit of extra guidance.

Personal Description:
I am a professional and dedicated native English teacher with years of experience behind me.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained TEFL experience within varied teaching roles, both abroad and in the UK. In my previous roles I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults in companies, schools, and summer camps. I have taught General English, Business English, and exam classes to groups and one-to-one students in school and business environments. I also have experience of teaching students with dyslexia. This variety has enabled me to continually assess my style of teaching and keep me on my toes!

Working in such roles has given me crucial insight into the needs of the student. I am extremely patient and understand the frustration that can arise when learning, whether it is a new language or subject. I realise that people acquire knowledge through varied means so I am keen to adjust my teaching style to benefit my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a mature, responsible, and eclectic teaching approach, as well as a good sense of humour, is crucial for a successful learning environment.

I offer a custom-made service, whether you need to improve your general English skills, your writing, or simply build your confidence. I also have years of experience in teaching Business English and Exam English (IELTS/FCE/CAE). Whatever you need help with, I am happy to focus my lessons on what you require.

I offer Skype lessons and professional proofreading for people who may not be able to meet face-to-face.

I am available to tutor at your home, workplace, or in a quiet cafe in Cambridge. I can also tutor in Central London.

Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Oxford reading German. For my A Levels I studied German, English Literature and History and received A*, A* and an A. For AS I also did Mathematics and for my GCSE's I studied: Maths, Dual Science, English Literature, English Language, German, French, History, Art and Drama.

Teaching Experience:

I worked in a primary school for 6 months in my gap year, primarily teaching reading, writing and mathematics to the younger years as well as art, sport and IT skills. Previous to this job, I taught a German club at a local primary school and have worked on a charity literacy scheme, where I tutored reading and writing one on one to a child who was underachieving for his age group. I have also done other volunteer tutoring at a primary school, reading one on one with the children and improving their literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is best to discuss together what you feel you need help with or needs to be worked on and from there we can assess how best to proceed. I prefer you to bring your own material to me as from this I can see what it is you are struggling with, how advanced your school work is and the level you are aiming for.

Personal Description:
In 2013 I graduated as a mature student from Northampton University with a First Class English degree. My dissertation was in post-colonial literature but my other specialisms are Augustan satire (Swift, Pope etc.), American literature and Chinese and Japanese classical poetry. I have many years of experience as a poet, writer, publisher and editor with numerous publication credits. Currently I am organising the spoken word event at this year's two-day Irchester Woodfest.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally for a year. I offer tutoring to GCSE and A Level students in English Language and English Literature. I also offer structured, thematically organised conversation classes and support with language and grammar for adults of varying abilities, including those who speak English as a second language.

Personal Description:
When I moved to France at the age of 13 with my parents, not one of us spoke a word of the language - other than the vague memories of the begins of GCSE, with the only words springing to mind being 'ruler' and 'pencil'. Well that's not very useful is it!

I'll be honest, I didn't have friends for the first few months there because of the language barrier (it didn't help either that I was home-schooled so it was incredibly hard for me to even meet people!). So I just had to learn the language. In teaching myself it, I know what works, I know the easiest ways to memorise words and phrases, I know what to do and what will be easiest for you.

After three years of living in France, my parents decided to pack everything up and move back to the UK... It broke my heart. I spent so long, so many hours teaching myself and changing my own ways and then JUST as I was laughing at French jokes and making them up myself, we leave.

So of course, it was my first choice to study at college, not only did I get a head-start in the class with my now fluent tongue, I had the chance to continue and grow.

I completed my AS Level and my A2 Level in French, gaining an A in both (I was 0.50% off and A* - which is the highest grade the college had ever had for the A2 Level French despite the college having had native French speakers take the course).

My passion for Italian stems from my father's family being Sicilian. We moved there, also when I was 13, however, sadly we only spent a very brief time there - it was a spontaneous country-hop so we really just were not prepared for the culture shock. Again, none of us spoke the language, so I began teaching myself and then continued again when I came back to the UK to study. I'm currently awaiting both my AS and A2 Level results for Italian.

English is my native language and I have received an A* in my GCSE, now I am awaiting my AS Level results for English Language - and next year I will be continuing on to study A2. I can teach you up to GCSE level in English or to become fluent in the language if you are wanting to learn the language from either Italian or French.

I am your best option and I will deliver, I am your first class ticket to language knowledge. All aboard!

Teaching Experience:

I have no formal teaching experience - as I'm still finishing my final year of college and currently applying to university, I have however been teaching French online with the use of Twitter and regularly respond to my 3000+ followers' questions and update my page daily with useful phrases, every day speech and more complex language issues... Anything that anyone asks about really!

Tutoring Approach:

I do it the right way, the way I would have wanted to have been taught. No unnecessary memorising. No difficult approaches. No complex babbling.

I won't just be setting you work, I will be working with you. All you need to do is let me know what exactly you want to learn. Even if your answer is 'Everything!', then we'll get down to it.

This is simple. Language is what we do as humans. So, let's do it!

Personal Description:
I have recently completed a Master's degree at Oxford University in Women's Studies, focussing on Classical Greek history. Prior to that I completed a Bachelor's degree in Ancient History at Bristol University where I came third in my year.

My main strengths lie in English and History where I was top of my year at school for both AS and A level and for this achievement won the Sixth Form Academic Prize. I undertook entrance exams for The King's School, Canterbury and I believe that I would be very capable of giving students the rigorous academic training necessary to pass such exams.

As well as my academic achievements I enjoy ballet and singing and was a Senior News Reporter for the Bristol University Student Newspaper. While at Oxford University I used my skills of organisation and administration to start up a Gender Discussion Society at Oriel College which has been hugely successful.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wealth of experience as a private tutor to children mainly in English and reading and writing skills. During my time as a tutor I coached two 11 year olds in an English writing competition and both got through to the final round with one child eventually going on to win the competition. Furthermore, a number of the children I taught who are native Chinese speakers went on to get places at prestigious schools in the UK.

My abilities in English, History and Religious Studies mean that I am very capable of tutoring children and young people in these subjects in order to provide them with the tools to succeed in examinations from 11+ to A Level.

Tutoring Approach:

I ensure that I interact with each individual child in a way that is both engaging and interesting, making difficult and often monotonous topics more lively. My own deep passion for the subjects I teach creates a constructive atmosphere where children can get excited about their learning experience.

Modern examinations, particularly in history, are not designed to force children to learn lists of information but rather encourages children to analyse and consider academic topics in a critical manner. Helping to mould the mind of a young person to effectively approach examination questions is my fundamental approach to tutoring. I will enable my tutees to have the confidence and capability to excel and will ensure that they thoroughly enjoy learning.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Liverpool where I very much enjoyed studying English Literature and French, graduating with a First Class Honours degree. I have taken a year out between graduating and beginning a Masters Course in Medieval Literature, and hope to further my teaching experience during this year. Having spent ten years learning French, I am very familiar with the joys and challenges of learning a foreign language, including aspects such as grammar and vocabulary. I also consider it very important that the person learning the foreign language should become confident when speaking, and think if approached in the right way this can be a hugely enjoyable learning experience. I spent a year abroad studying at La Sorbonne University in Paris as part of the Erasmus programme, and so have thoroughly undergone the experience of being intimidated speaking a foreign language!; I am always patient and encouraging with my students to give them the most relaxed and enjoyable learning environment. I am passionate about English Literature, but understand that it can be difficult for younger learners to fully experience what the subject has to offer whilst following such a tight curriculum. My aim is to motivate younger learners to rediscover the enjoyment in school and college-level English, as this naturally leads on to effective study results.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently studying for my 120-hour TEFL qualification which is allowing me to further develop teaching techniques which will offer the most enjoyable and effective learning experience for my tutees.

I spent this Summer in Poland teaching English to Polish young people, which included one-to-one conversation to develop fluency and confidence in spoken English. I also gave grammar and vocabulary tuition to these students.

I also have experience teaching English in a larger group, as I worked in the Asylum Link Centre in Liverpool which specialises in developing the spoken English of asylum seekers from around the world; this gave me experience teaching people with a range of skill-levels.

Tutoring Approach:

In an initial session I think it best to ascertain what the student hopes to achieve from our sessions. If there are specific vocabulary or grammatical points they would like to cover then we can go on to focus on these issues in as much detail as necessary. Similarly, if there are exams or tests which they are working towards, I am able to develop a learning plan so that we can work towards a specific date giving them as much help as possible to succeed. If, on the other hand, a tutee would prefer simply to experience speaking their target language, I am very happy to spend a more relaxed lesson conversing, either with immediate or end-of-lesson feedback, according to their preferences. For this latter type of lesson it can be helpful to go to a quiet coffee shop, or go for a walk, to make the speaking experience as relaxed as possible, as from experience I know this is certainly the best way to learn.
