Personal Description:
I am a former Head of English and Assistant Headteacher in a local secondary school and have a very strong record of raising pupils' attainment. I have worked with all year groups, 7-13 (age 11-18), and have experience working with pupils with special needs, as well as having done lots of work on stretching more able students. English is my passion and it's one I am enthusiastic to share with others. I graduated from Oxford University in 2005 and am currently Senior Examiner at GCSE for one of the major exam boards, so I know what they really want to see! I am also a 'subject expert' in English at Ofqual. I now oversee the training and work of up to 80 examiners so have very significant experience in this area.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2006, having taken my PGCE at Homerton College in Cambridge. Since then I have worked full time at a local school teaching English, although I have now returned to full time study so have better availability for tutoring. I have marked both GCSE English Language and English Literature for OCR and AQA and CIE, and also mark A Level. I am aware my price point is higher than others, but this reflects the years of teaching and direct examining experience which I will bring to your sessions; I believe I am very well placed to help students achieve their potential.

Tutoring Approach:

In consultation with student and parents/carers, we would put together a programme which would be tailored to meet the needs to of the student. I always try to create a relaxed atmosphere, and encourage humour!

Personal Description:
I gained a PGCE in secondary science (physics specialism), after studying biomedical sciences. I then worked for two years teaching secondary science. I then became a private tutor while studying for an MA in sociolinguistics, and have continued tutoring while researching for a PhD in linguistics. I am fascinated by all areas of science from quantum mechanics, chaos and cosmology to sociobiology, cognitive science and psycholinguistics. I have a passion for acquiring knowledge and educating others, and have an ever-expanding range of strategies to suit individual needs.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a classroom teacher of Science with year 7 up to year 13 across the ability range, and have successfully tutored students privately in all three sciences at GCSE and A level, including improving grades for re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

I make extensive use of past exam questions; the best way to do well in exams is to practise doing exams! This also allows realistic monitoring of performance as tutoring continues. I normally email exam questions for students to attempt before the tutoring session.

Students should have time to explore their interests in the subject by asking questions of their own. This is an important part of reflective learning and will help build and maintain enthusiasm.

I am happy to teach up to 3 students in a single session. Multiple bookings have a reduced fee per student due to the moderate reduction in individual attention.

Personal Description:
I am an LSE graduate in BSc Accounting and Finance and have also obtained postgraduate qualifications in Statistics, I am currently a dedicated and passionate full-time tutor, I am passionate about my subjects and dedicated to seeing students do well.

I was privileged enough to be afforded a very good private education and originally decided to take on tutoring as an opportunity to share my knowledge with others and allow them to realise their full potential and all the other benefits of a good education.

Five main factors have contributed to my success so far namely,
- I have high expectations of myself and my students, I believe every student can achieve the best grades with the right help

- I instil confidence and a "can do" attitude in students, regularly reminding them that nothing is "hard" if you have been shown how to do it properly

- I listen to students, this keeps lessons interactive and ensures I have constant update on their thought process and current understanding

- I am relatively young so students feel comfortable engaging with me and enjoy learning from me

- I ensure continuous support for students, I make myself available for questions via phone or e-mail throughout the day to ensure the support does not end at the end of the lesson!

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Mathematics and Economics tutor for 4 years in this time my reliability and skill has enabled me to develop a good reputation which has allowed me to have a consistent base of 12 - 16 students on a weekly basis.

Career Highlights!

- Academic Year 2011 - 2012 I helped a student who was predicted a C grade at GCSE to achieve a coveted place at Eltham College after passing a difficult 16+ exam

- Academic year 2012 - 2013 I helped a student who scored a D grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 level after 8 months of tuition. He was the only student to score an A grade in his school since 2007.

- Academic Year 2013 - 2014 I helped a student who scored a C grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 Economics with an impressive 97% in Unit 1, 99% in Unit 2 and 100% in Unit 3. He had also had three previous tutors who he was dissatisfied with before coming to me.

Further Teaching Experience

At degree level I have taught Macro and Micro Economics to students attending Russell Group Universities, this year I helped an international student from Ukraine achieve over 70% in both Macro and Micro Economics.

I have taught A-Level Economics across Edexcel, AQA and OCR syllabuses with equal success. I have never had a student score below a B grade and have had several students score over 90% in modules.

I have taught Mathematics at A-Level, GCSE, 16+ and 11+ common entrance levels and covered AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE exam boards. I have helped students gain coveted places at top independent schools such as Eltham College and Bromley High. I have also helped students improve from as low as C grades at GCSE to A grades, however my most notable success this year came when I helped an AS Maths student who scored a D grade in January achieve a B grade in May with an impressive 84% in C1.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach embodies a long term approach to learning I teach students in a way which will allow them to be successful in higher study as well as their more short term exams. I also try to make students more confident in their abilities overall not just the material I teach.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation to success in academic study. I concentrate a lot of time and energy on instilling these basic principles in students.

I am also a strong believer in understanding over 'rope learning' I ensure that pupils understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, never encouraging them to simply regurgitate what they have seen previously.

I also encourage practical understanding of concepts frequently referencing real world examples and using objects to illustrate theory as I recognise that theory on its own given no relevance is harder to remember. Supplementary to this I also relate teaching material to potential job roles and tasks which I have knowledge of (mostly Banking or Business related) in order communicate usefulness to students and keep things interesting.

Finally I believe teaching successfully is ultimately about listening to your students I constantly encourage students to question things and express anything they don't understand or are not too sure of. If a student looks unsure or hesitant about something I will ask open questions or get them to explain concepts to me in order to fully grasp their understanding. This also helps build their confidence and ability to express themselves accurately.

Personal Description:
I am a final year PhD student at the University of Cambridge studying Spanish and Latin American Literature. I obtained first class (hons) degree from the University of Warwick in History, Literature, and Culture of the Americas and a Masters degree with distinction from the University of Cambridge in Latin American Studies. At Sixth Form I took the International Baccalaureate (IB) with Higher level subjects in English, History and German, and Standard level Maths, Physics, and French. I speak fluent French and Spanish having gone to school in France when I was younger and from spending a year abroad in Chile as part of my undergraduate degree.

Teaching Experience:

My strengths include helping with foreign language learning and any subject which requires quality written English such as Literature, History, and English as a foreign language. I was an academic peer tutor at sixth form helping younger years students with French and English language and writing skill, I have tutored at GCSE level for two years in Cambridge, and I have taught undergraduates at the University of Cambridge in Spanish literature and translation at all stages of the undergraduate degree. I have also taught students with dyslexia and undertaken a course on teaching students with dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a holistic philosophy towards teaching, tutoring, and mentoring; I am very conscious of trying to provide tools for structuring essays which help to communicate in a direct and effective way, and that can be put into practice by GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate level students across all of their qualitative subjects. I also always tailor my tutoring to the specific needs of the tutee, so in the initial consultation we would discuss these needs and set out some personal aims and goals for the sessions.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed a Master's in Creative Writing at Kingston University, after achieving a 2:1 in my undergraduate degree in English Literature with Creative writing last year. I am British but I grew up in Hong Kong and Thailand. I have been living in the U.K for ten years now and have a TESOL qualification certified by Trinity College, which is one of the highest acclaimed foreign language qualifications. I achieved A's for English in my GCSE's and a B at A-Level. I grew up in a big family and I enjoy interacting with adults and children.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) qualification, certified by Trinity College, in 2010. During my time on the course I had the opportunity to teach intermediate and advanced classes of mixed nationalities and ages, as well as tutoring one to one. After completing the course I then went on to teach English to hotel staff in Thailand, where I was the only teacher. I was in charge of teaching five different classes a day; engineers, reception staff, kitchen staff, waiting staff and gardeners. Many of these groups spoke next to no English and it was up to me to arrange the content and structure of every lesson.

In 2011 I was a volunteer at Kamala School in Thailand with the organisation 'Phuket be Good to Us'. I helped out in the after school English programme for underprivileged children who had lost their families to the 2004 tsunami. We helped to improve their English language skills through fun activities like skateboarding, snooker and arts and crafts.

I began tutoring in 2012, and have since taught both adults and children with English as their second language, as well as children for whom English is their first language, but require extra help for other reasons.

In 2013 I volunteered at a primary school in Wandsworth, where I got to work one to one with ESL children, as well as assisting in a Maths class with children with behavioural difficulties.

In 2014 I worked as a Learning Support Teacher at Surbiton High School while another teacher was on leave. I worked mainly with ESL students but also students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. I taught both primary school years 2-3 and secondary school years 8-11, working for a range of targets such as IGCSE and Cambridge proficiency exams.

From 2014 - 2015 I was a Senior Classroom Assistant at a Kumon centre, which provides worksheet based learning programmes in English and Maths to children from ages 3 - 16. I had a range of duties, but my main duty involved working closely with the students on their English work, and implementing a reading programme to encourage individual progress.

In the summer of 2015 I also worked with a British Council accredited Summer School as an EFL Teacher. I taught English to children from Europe and Asia from the ages of 10 - 17. I implemented the 'Dynamic English' program which was focused on conversational English with many creative elements, teaching a range of levels from beginner to intermediate.

So far this year I have worked in a range of teaching roles. I have been an EFL teacher for two different language centres which run on the go English lessons while visiting London destinations such as the Museums, Zoo and Kew Gardens. I have also been working with students at a secondary school in Battersea during their GCSE examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin tutoring sessions with an informal meeting where we get to know each other. Tutees will complete a language assessment questionnaire which will help me determine what level they are at. By finding out tutee's strengths and weaknesses as well as what they want to achieve, I can create lesson plans beneficial to their learning.

One of my main aims when teaching English is to try and foster a love for reading in my students, so that they can approach language and writing with enthusiasm and confidence. I also try to encourage creativity at every opportunity and will often include exercises for students to produce their own pieces of creative writing, so they can implement the techniques and language they have read in books. This can be an incredible confidence boost for children and adults alike to see that they can produce their own creative and engaging pieces of work.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge graduate and have been a qualified teacher of languages (French and German) and English as an Additional Language for four years, working in secondary schools in Harrow and St Albans. I enjoy working with all age groups from primary children to GCSE, A Level and degree level. I have also trained and worked as a translator specialising in business and financial translations, and continue to do so on a freelance basis.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at the University of Birmingham in 2009 and have been teaching for the last 4 years at secondary schools in Harrow and St Albans. I have taught French and German to all secondary age groups from years 7 to 13, including a number of GCSE and A Level groups. I have good knowledge of examination requirements, including GCSE controlled assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is tailored to the needs of the individual student. Generally, I try to create a balance between the different language skills such as writing and speaking, as well as including vocabulary and grammar work. With exam students in particular, I focus on the syllabus requirements including preparation for the controlled assessment tasks at GCSE and the A Level speaking exams. I also work on exam skills and techniques for listening, reading and memorisation. An important part of my work is boosting students' confident and making lessons enjoyable as well as productive.
I tutor from home or can travel to you, dependent on location.

I am working as a tutor pending the start of the pupillage stage of my training in 2016.

I started my legal training as a mature student after many years in finance and have good, practical business experience.

I am able to tutor in most humanities subjects but in particular, History, English and Law. I have successfully tutored in the past both mature students and those for whom English is not their first language.

Teaching Experience:

In my previous career I was frequently responsible for the training and development of new school leavers.

As a mature student at university I mentored and helped my peers to understand the subjects being taught.

I have been tutoring for over a year with typically excellent results for my students.

I have tutored students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I am seeking to work as a tutor as I prefer the more intense and tailored approach which can be taken with individual students or small groups of students.

My approach is tailored to the individual student's needs. Whether the student is seeking support for short term projects or throughout the academic year I am able to quickly build a good working relationship which facilitates tutoring and enables the student to derive the best results from our sessions.

I believe in building a good, solid basis of knowledge and understanding on which the student can develop their own thoughts and theories enabling a full, in-depth understanding of the subject.

Personal Description:
My name is Ellen and I have been teaching for fourteen years. I have a vast amount of interests and hobbies. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the cinema, eating out, theatre, walking, reading, eBay and I also work in a shop part-time too.
I have a clean driving license and I am willing to travel to pupil's houses, or they're welcome to be tutored at mine.
I am hard-working, committed and always eager to learn. I rarely have a day off sick, I just keep going!
I am also a member of a local meet up group, which is based in Chester and North Wales. I often participate in these events, I feel it has allowed me to meet more like-minded people. I'm a land lady on rented property, so I have to be professional and organised. This is when my teaching skills come into place!
I strongly believe you have to live life to the full, and grab every opportunity you can. Life's too short.

Teaching Experience:

I have a vast amount of teaching experience. I have taught in the primary sector, ranging from Nursery up to Year Six.
Within my teaching career, I have been a History and PSHE Co-ordinator, where I was responsible for up-dating the school's policy, ordering resources, monitoring other teachers performance in these subjects and organising educational visits too.
I always ensure children's work is marked daily, with constructive or positive comments on their work. I also think praising the children is important, this is done through reward systems. When in permanent teaching positions, I have always ensured that the environment is bright, colourful, fresh and stimulating. Wall displays, illustrating children's work from a varied ability is important.
I always ensure affective discipline is carried out in the classroom and I always accommodate for each child's needs, differentiating if necessary.
During my teaching career I have organised class assemblies in front of the whole school, ensuring that each child has a piece of reading to be read or an acting role to be carried out, the assemblies often link to their theme they've been learning that particular term.
I always follow the Foundation Curriculum and the National Curriculum in a professional way.
I can work as part of a team and communicate with parents on a professional level. I'm hard-working and always ensure that children are happy and stimulated in their learning environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring since 2007, however, in 2012 I did take a break. I always ensure my lessons are appropriate for the child's learning, and after a day at school, I always try to make the lessons as stimulating as possible.
Sometimes the tasks may relate to the child's experience, this is done through reading and writing. I also incorporate celebrations and multi-cultural events in the lessons too, I feel this broadens the child's outlook in life.
My lessons incorporate writing, reading and comprehension.
I always give feedback to the child and parents at the end of each lesson. I ensure my lessons are delivered in a professional manner.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. I currently work in a successful 'outstanding' school, therefore, I have a very strong English department where I am able to gain resources and skills I can bring to my tutees.

I am passionate about inspiring confidence and belief, and love exploring my subject with others; opening their minds to alternative approaches and guiding the way. I use a lot of humour in my lessons and like to create a calm, relaxed and enjoyable environment and get to know my students as individuals. Having spent much time with a personal tutor at GCSE to overcome my fear of Mathematics as a teenager, I have a personal understanding of the empathy and patience required by a tutor, as well as a passion to enable my tutees to reach their goals and develop confidence in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating from Roehampton University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Theatre Studies, I went on to work as a Teaching Assistant in SEN working with students with a range of needs, but focused on teaching students with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, which then became my research focus for one of my assignments during my PGCE teacher training.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.

Personal Description:
I want to motivate and empower my pupils to help them become the best that they can be. I have spent the last five years working in various financial analysis roles across London and this has often involved giving 1-1 sessions on new processes and software. I have most enjoyed any opportunities I have had to help others achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring University students and adults in business subjects and Microsoft Excel for the past four years whilst working in Finance. Prior experience has also included children of ages 5-12 in groups and 1-1 tutoring at ages: 5-8 (for Maths and English) and 10 (for 11+ exams).

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my tuition largely to the needs of the student, depending on their requirements and working style. However, while tutoring to any required curricula I will also try to instil the love of a subject into a student by guiding them to other fascinating areas of the subject and discovering areas of interests to support the subject's framework.

Personal Description:
Hi there! My name is Rachel and I'm passionate about the English language...I studied a joint honours degree in English Literature and History, then went on to gain a Master of Arts in Nineteenth Century Studies from Sheffield University. I then went on to study for a PGCE in Secondary Education at Keele University.

I actually ended up working in the Health and Social Care sector, but retained a love of reading and writing poetry and short stories. I also love music; I play the Viola badly and like to walk my (Large!) dog, a fluffy German Shepherd. I'm an active member of my church, where I help out with ushering and youth work.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my experience is in 1:1 and small group work. The teaching I did in the classroom I found both rewarding and frustrating as I felt constrained following the curriculum so rigidly at times. We all learn in different ways and personal tutoring helps to draw out the strengths of the individual.

I worked at a summer school at Staffordshire University several years ago, tutoring adults in English in small groups. They took an exam after six weeks and if they passed they had a qualification equivalent to a grade C at GCSE. From then I worked as a nootetaker and Mentor, again at Staffordshire University. Then I went into personal tutoring.... Firstly, I began tutoring a young man with mild dyslexia to help him with his GCSE English exams. I shared some information about myself at both Keele and Staffordshire Universities and took on some international students, assisting with business English, editing dissertations and general conversation. I have also helped students with exam resits in English and SATs preparation.

I am currently working towards a teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) qualification.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to meet the student and chat with them to discover their aims and needs, then create a bespoke tutoring package for them. I have current exam board books and resources that I work with, but I will also utilise other methods of teaching as I see fit. I am formal when needs be, but I would rather be relaxed in my approach as I feel this puts the student at ease and they learn better that way. I don't throw in exams immediately; rather we get to know each other and monitor progression for a few sessions and focus on any weak areas. I like to think that learning with me is fun! However, if the results are not appearing, then I will happily change tactics and get a bit more intense, as long as my student feels comfortable with it.

Personal Description:
I am an A-level student at St Paul's Girls' School in West London, where I am studying English, History, Drama, and Spanish. I have three younger sisters and a significant amount of babysitting experience, so I have a great deal of experience with children, which has also made me a very patient person. As I took my GCSEs only last year much of the exam technique is still fresh in my mind, and I have many of my old exam notes. I am a blue belt in karate, am working on grade 7 flute, edit and contribute to several school publications, and have won several competitions as part of my school's debating team. Succeeding in both my extracurriculars and my studies requires a great deal of efficiency and punctuality, which I will be sure to apply in my work.

Teaching Experience:

Weekly after-school debate coaching at Hammersmith Academy (this year and last)

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to help children with their homework or exam preparation, by first walking them through the method and showing them examples, then encouraging them to tackle the questions independently. If need be, I can write out colour-coordinated note sheets to help children in their study, or bring addition exercises/exam practice from home to help them master a particular unit. If a student learns in a particular way (for instance, if they are more of an aural learner) I am happy to incorporate that into my lessons and adjust my tutoring methods appropriately.

Personal Description:
Do you want the best for yourself or your child? Are you confused by today's education system? Has something gone wrong in your child's education? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", then you have come to the right place!

Today's world offers countless wonders and opportunities. The role of education is to help each of us to explore and make the best of these. As a graduate of the University of Oxford, as well as a qualified teacher, I am uniquely well-placed to help students make the most of a precious time in their life. I know how to strike the delicate balance between the knowledge that inspires us and those all important exam results, on which so much rests. Offering a bespoke service, I tailor my tuition to my student's needs, guiding them through their own progress in the subject and the examination system.

My excellent academic background allows me to develop candidates in the skills and knowledge required for success in education, especially in written communication. As a linguist, I excel in English, French, Spanish and Italian, which I am pleased to offer to A-level. I can also instruct in academic English to degree level. My own debating, conversation and writing were honed in some of the finest institutions, not least the University of Durham, the Royal English College, Valladolid, and, most recently, the University of Oxford. In particular, I sub-specialise in helping boys (often in Years 10 and 11) to develop their formal written and spoken English, so that their intelligence, which often shines through in Maths and the Sciences, can also be reflected in the arts and humanities.

My students also find my approach focused, but also light-hearted and enjoyable. I pride myself on ensuring lessons are efficient, informative and focused not simply on the hour, but also on the "take-away", so that students will develop and progress.

Teaching Experience:

I have ten years' experience of teaching and tutoring at every level, from primary school through to undergraduate (I have led medieval philosophy seminars at St. Mary's College, Oscott). I have also worked with special needs children and I have often worked with children who have English as an additional language.

I possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring begins with the student's general academic background and his/her own academic goals. My planning and lessons subsequently focus on the particular elements (e.g. vocabulary, grammar, exam technique, etc.) required to attain the final goal. Feedback, both positive and constructive, is given throughout (to parents, where applicable). Courses in formal English focus on the reading, grammar, style and writing necessary for good prose and speech. This takes its lead from the format for Oxford tutorials, where students must research, compose and defend their views with an established academic. This is punctuated by more light-hearted moments and good humour. Tutees are also supplied with "homework" where required.
