Personal Description:
I have a first-class honours degree in History and a Master's degree in American Studies (History) from the University of Manchester. I wrote my Master's thesis on the negotiation of Arab and African American Muslim multiple identities through Islamic hip-hop in the post-9/11 period.

I'm a Marketing Executive at Capital Properties and manage marketing and communications for a number of high-profile commercial clients including Spinningfields and Old Granada Studios. I also work as a copywriter for Union Street Media Arts. I volunteer for Saheli (an Asian women's refuge) and I'm a mentor on the University of Manchester Gold Mentoring programme.

I love to read, write, paint and travel and I have a keen interest in hip-hop studies, music activism and human rights.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 5 years' experience as a tutor having worked as a peer tutor at Bridgewater State University in the USA in 2008 and having since worked as a GCSE English tutor for the Tutor Trust (2011-12). At the Tutor Trust I delivered small group tuition and large group revision sessions in Manchester's disadvantaged schools and sixth form colleges.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a structured approach to tutoring and develop a clear plan with objectives for the student and I to reach together. I work at the student's own pace and provide bespoke tuition which is tailored to the student's needs and learning style. My sessions are clear, engaging and stimulating.

My tutoring style is to facilitate rather than teach. I guide the student in the right direction and provide additional support with study skills, time management and organisation. Ultimately I encourage the student to build confidence in his/her own ability.

I also provide proofreading services for undergraduate, Master's and PHD theses. I check grammar and spelling to a very high standard and offer in-depth feedback on analysis/argument, structure, knowledge/understanding, sources and referencing, and style and presentation to help students achieve the grade that they are aiming for.

Personal Description:
I am a private tutor based in Edgbaston, Birmingham. I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BA in English and Classics. I have been tutoring for 3 years, in which time I have established a great track record, helping a wide variety of pupils from many backgrounds achieve their best in KS2/11+, GCSE and A Level English.

As I have recently completed secondary and further education and consequently understand both the structure and nature of the work required, the problems faced by students who need some extra help, and what is required to get the very best out of students and syllabi.

I indulge various academic interests for example, 18th Century Literature (particularly Augustan satire), Milton, Shakespeare and my knowledge and expertise of the 'standard topic' areas for GCSE/A Level can not only help students to reach the highest marks, but also radically improves their learning experience .

Personal Description:
Hi,

As a mother of two and in my career experience so far, I have learned to be patient, supportive and encouraging with children, young people and inexperienced, unconfident adults. I'm a warm, approachable person with a calm, unflappable demeanour and a good sense of humour. I have a BA (Hons) degree in English and Media and Communications Studies and an up-to-date DBS (CRB) check.

After over 10 years of working in television as a script editor, script reader and occasional writer, I moved onto work in schools, my most recent job being in a mixed secondary school as a Learning Support Assistant. My creative background means I have a strong emphasis on reading, writing and communication skills. While working at the BBC (EastEnders) in 2005, I was made redundant, and my husband and I decided to turn a negative experience into a positive one so we spent about six months travelling to places including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India. We returned home when I became pregnant with our first daughter. For about two years I freelanced from home, writing and editing for a couple of travel websites and reading and reporting on scripts for an independent TV company.

Once I became a mother myself, my priorities changed and I gave up my television career to work with young people - something I find rewarding, challenging and inspiring on a daily basis. I feel great satisfaction in working with children and helping them to achieve all that they can be - I enjoy their company and find their enquiring minds and personal growth and development fascinating. Of course I work very well with adults too and currently tutor two writers; one published in Europe, the other an inspiring novelist.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students ranging from Year 3 to 11+ preparation, from pre-GCSE and GCSE English support to A level Film and Media Studies. Some of my students have additional education needs relating to dyslexia and autism. I have successfully helped GCSE and A Level students to gain the grades they needed to develop their education further. My previous A Level students are now enjoying their university courses and my GCSE students are now studying A Levels and Further Education courses, as per their target. I also tutor adults, mostly in creative writing, and international students, in learning to speak and understand English.

At the moment I am teaching students from Year 3 through to A level stage, as well as two adults for creative writing. I am also teaching English to two French teenagers who are visiting for a week with their family, for the sole purpose of receiving English tuition.

I have worked and volunteered at five schools now, including one primary school and one first school. Most of my school experience has been working for the Support department, focusing on children with Special Educational Needs. Some of the pupils have behavioural issues or physical disabilities, but most of them have learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism. I worked with these children within the mainstream classroom environment, offering them encouragement and support and helping them to understand the teachers' instructions. I also occasionally worked on a one-to-one basis with them away from the classroom, helping them to focus without any distractions.
At the primary school, I supported Year 2 and Year 3 children with reading and DT. This was done on either a one-to-one basis, or in small groups. Currently, I volunteer once a week in a Reception class, where I help children with their reading.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a calm, supportive approach and begin with assessing the student to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. Then I tailor their sessions accordingly. I break up the sessions into different segments using fun activities where appropriate to help with their learning process. I believe that children should find learning stimulating and interactive, and not feel that they are just being 'talked at'. I am open to different types of teaching, and particularly with students who need extra support, I like to try to think 'outside of the box'.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with 7 years' experience teaching at Key Stages 1 and 2 and have been tutoring for the past 2 years. As a current teacher, I am very familiar with current assessment requirements across primary level and have 2 years' experience of tutoring year 6 pupils in mathematics through the government-funded one-to-one tuition scheme.

I have successfully tutored children aged 4-11 in both English and Maths.

In addition to my primary teaching experience, I have a 2.1 degree in German Studies from the University of Warwick and can confidently teach this subject to A-level if required. I have successfully tutored GCSE and A-level students in German, boosting grades by an average of 2 levels (ie. from a C to an A).

Teaching Experience:

Current Year 2 teacher at local primary.
3 years' experience of teaching in upper-Key Stage 2.
2 years' experience of personal tuition (Mathematics - year 6)
Postgraduate Certificate in Education: 2007
TEFL experience - Germany 2004-5

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take a little time to get to know my students and assess their strengths and weaknesses. I encourage the child to identify his or her own areas they think they need to work on.

After an initial introduction, the tuition process is intensive, with plenty of practice and guidance! I am confident in using ICT, where necessary, to illustrate key concepts.

Generally, I have found that an hour per week is sufficient to improve a child's confidence and ability. However, if you feel your child would benefit from more hours' tuition per week, I will be happy to accommodate them.

Personal Description:
Having gained three A grades at A Level, and a further two AS, I studied English Literature, Film Studies and Drama at The University of Manchester. From here I went on to study at the London Film Academy where I graduated with a Distinction in Film Making and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts where I studied Directing. I have subsequently qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TFL accredited by the University of Kingston).

Outside of teaching, I am co-founder of imaginary friends, a young theatre production company with whom I have written, devised and directed theatre for various London venues. I am interested in history, politics and art. As such, I enjoy visiting galleries, sights of historical interest and museums. I keep up to date with current affairs and campaigns and I love to travel. In 2011 I won the Huss-Smickler Prize for poetry.

Teaching Experience:

My experience as a tutor ranges from KS1 to degree level and I am eager to build a rapport with tutees of all ages and backgrounds. I am comfortable teaching English Literature and Language, History, Creative Writing, Citizenship, Government and Politics, Critical Thinking, Film Studies, Drama and Maths. I have also coached many pupils in preparation for the 7, 8 and 11 plus exams. Recently I have been working full time in primary school, preparing Year 6 pupils for the SATS examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and thorough tutor, committed to unlocking the potential that lies in every student. To do so I feel it is important to create bespoke lesson plans and learning strategies, tailored with care and imagination to the specific needs of each tutee.

Rather than supplying a pupil with answers, I will always encourage a pupil to achieve the satisfaction of finding it for themselves. This method is helpful in committing method as well as material to memory and creates students who are confident in their understanding of what they are studying. It also helps me to understand the way in which a pupil thinks so that I may present ideas in a way that is appealing and accessible to them, as well as identify gaps in their knowledge/understanding.

I encourage 'joined-up-thinking' in my pupils with the aim of equipping them to analyse and improve their work independently, apply the skills they have acquired to other areas of study and cultivate a genuine interest in their subject by realising its relevance to the world outside of the classroom.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching most of my working life. However, last year was entirely spent in fulltime education. I have Just finished a Masters degree specialising in Shakespeare and wish to make a return to teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for roughly 8 years now. I have taught English as a foreign language in Japan for a major language school. I worked as a private tutor in Japan and Australia teaching ESL. In Australia, I also worked with an import company improving the business English of their staff. I have taught Exercise Physiology both at University level for ANU in Sydney, and in an adult education environment. I have ample experience in sport coaching, having coached school children and university students in a variety of sports. I have taught on three continents, taught everyone from children as young as 1 to retirees. I have experience in a variety of subjects and people from various backgrounds. I am used to teaching individuals and groups.

Tutoring Approach:

People have different strengths and weaknesses. Both these need to be adequately construed before any teaching method can be finalised. Usually, I would try to ascertain the students strengths, to facilitate learning, and weaknesses, to identify areas of improvement. It is important to interpret these factors according to the framework of curriculum / examiner requirements. I endeavour to make my sessions fun for students. I try to remind myself that their tutoring sessions are often at the end of a long days work. This makes patience very important.

Personal Description:
Passionate, articulate and analytical 20 year old looking to tutor History and English up to GCSE level.

I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Gloucestershire in my second year, studying History. I have a deep passion for this subject that I have fostered since primary school, and wish to pass this zeal on to future generations. Therefore, I have an aspiration to become a secondary school teacher upon graduation, and so would like to build experience teaching History before taking the plunge into full time teaching through tuition.

To me, a career is not gauged by the pay, but by the reward you reap from it. To see somebody progress academically and know that it is your knowledge and skills that is propelling them forwards through life and achieve their absolute best is perhaps the most fulfilling reward somebody can gain.

Teaching Experience:

None as of yet, due to currently being in full time education. However, as a result I have recently experienced current teaching methods and possess a knowledge of the UK teaching system that is, for the moment, up to date.

Tutoring Approach:

My belief in tutoring and teaching is to foster a rapport with the student, and therefore build academic progression from it. Leading a horse to water but not being able to make them drink has never been more true in the case of teaching and tuition, and therefore an easygoing and trusting professional relationship is key. To me, this can be achieved by recognising and praising success and progression, and a pragmatic approach to counter-productivity that ensures that the student is brought back to focusing on bettering their progress without ill-feeling or animosity. Therefore, it is imperative to work in an environment that is focused, challenging but also engaging.

I am friendly and approachable and like to aim to raise student self-esteem and attitude to learning, focusing on positive recognition of achievements and constructive reinforcement of learning strategies.

I work just as easily with adults as I do with children.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 30 years of teaching experience teaching from pre schoo level up to GCSE level and adult learning for returning to work.

I also teach children within the care system who have missed a lot of the early building blocks through lack of education as opposed to lack of ability. This also includes overcoming huge barriers to learning !

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to develop an individual learning strategy to accomodate the students learning style and empower them to achieve and gain confidence through a positive learning programme suited to their individual style and needs.

Personal Description:
Annie has enjoyed teaching Functional English (equivalent to GCSE English) for the past two years. As a published writer/novelist, her passion for writing is apparent in every lesson - whether for children or for adults.

She is also enthusiastic about preparing KS2 children for their English SATs, and assisting AS/A2 Philosophy students with their course.

Finally, she is fully qualified to teach EFL/ESOL (English to speakers of other languages) and would welcome the opportunity to take on more students in this area.

Personal Description:
I am a divorcee with two teenagers and a rather loopy dog (all housetrained!) I discovered the joys of teaching as a parent helper at my children's Infant and Junior schools which inspired me to qualify as a Primary School teacher. Unfortunately I have developed arthritis in my knee which is why I am looking to continue my teaching in a non-school environment. My favourite academic subject is literacy because I love reading books by a wide range of authors, e.g. Austin and Dickens to J K Rowling and Jacqueline Wilson. I love creative crafts e.g. card making, cross stitch, scrapbooking etc. Music plays a big part in my life, including listening and making. I'm a bit of a diva on the recorder and can play the full range from Sopranino to Bass. I love to sing.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Primary School Teacher who has worked in a number of schools in Essex in permanent, temporary and supply posts across both KS1 and KS2 over the last four years. My PGCE was obtained through School Centred Initial Teacher Training (which comprised spending a lot of time working directly with children). Prior to that I was a parent helper and governor for 5 years at my children's Infant and Junior Schools. I was Music Leader at my last school for two years and ran the choir. I enjoy teaching all primary subjects. I am keen to also support adults in improving their maths and literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I am familiar with the Primary Curriculum. Hands on learning is great fun and I enjoy practical activities. I love working on a one to one basis as you can build a rapport and really personalise the learning. I enjoy topic work as it gives the learning a context and shows that subjects do not stand alone without any connections/overlap with each other (just like life). I am keen to support both adults and children in mastering literacy and numeracy skills because they are fundamental life skills. Personalised learning means that any gaps can be filled so that an individual has a firm foundation on which to build.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and approachable teacher, currently in my second year of primary teaching, wanting to help any children who need some extra support, or are in need of more of a challenge.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a primary school teacher in the Nottinghamshire area. As I completed a four year bachelor of education degree, as well as the 2 years I have spent teaching, I have a thorough understanding of the National curriculum and age-related expectations. At the moment I am a full time teacher in year five, but I have also had experience in other year groups. I have also completed tutoring, within the school in which I teach, for reading comprehension. I would say that my strongest area is maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to work out and assess where your child is at, and to check for any misconceptions, before developing and extending their understanding. In recent tutoring experience, I found boosting the child's confidence is
key to them progressing and feeling more comfortable with the subject.

Personal Description:
I'm a young teacher, but I have five years teaching experience to my name. I love to travel and I love the theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I am an English teacher with five years experience. I love Shakespeare and I know far too many useless facts about his plays. I have taught the new iGCSE this year and I think that it is a great way to get that all important C grade for many students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a lot of experience with teaching 121, I think that it is important to be relaxed and enjoy learning. A lot of the time confidence is half of the problem.

Personal Description:
I am a 17 year old girl who is currently studying her AS Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and French.
I have completed my GCSE`s and gained 2Astar`s, 7A`s and 3B`s and I am predicted 4A`s in my AS Levels.
I enjoy socialising with friends and family alike but also have a passion for learning and hope to go further into the field of Chemistry, such as Chemical Engineering, Forensic Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

I hope to see some of you soon!

Teaching Experience:

I have never tutored before but I often help younger members in my family with advice and help on their work and school worries, by sharing my personal experiences and I aim to get them to achieve their full potential and to find a pathway which they have a passion for at an early age.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutors and students should always have good communication and the way to do that is to build a solid foundation between each other by listening and aiding in a proactive way, rather than forcing a student to learn something.
I understand that all students learn in different ways and believe that I am versatile enough to adapt to their ways and try a range of activities with them to help them grasp their full ability.

Personal Description:
Having grown up with my younger sister who has learning difficulties, I witnessed first-hand, the struggles and the triumphs she went through during her school career and it instilled in me a passion for supporting students with Special Needs. I worked for 8 years with a charity providing respite care for families of children and young people with a range of difficulties, and as a TA in a Special School before my Teacher Training.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Teacher Training at The University of Hull - a 3 year Primary Teaching Degree for which I achieved a 2:1 with Outstanding teaching placements. Since graduating, I have taught Years 1-3 in an inner London Primary school and always ensured children made accelerated progress. During this time I took on responsibility for Science across the school, as well as the achievement of children with English as an Additional Language.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to inspire children, create a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge. I believe in a practical approach to learning by planning activities that will capture interest - enjoy and achieve! Really understanding students strengths as well as their areas for development is the starting point for successful tutoring.

Personal Description:
Hello :) My name is Heather and I am a first year student at the University of Birmingham, studying English and American Literature. I just completed my A Levels in Northwich, where I studied English Language, English Literature, Film Studies and Performance Studies. I come from a single parent family with two younger siblings, and so from a very young age, the job fell to me to help with homework and revision! I've always found it immensely satisfying to find a way to convey an idea or method in a way which I know an individual will understand - every student is different, and we shouldn't expect every student to learn in the same way.

Teaching Experience:

During secondary school, I was a mentor for younger pupils, helping them with organisational skills, homework and often bridging the gap between them and their teachers if they were struggling with a specific topic in class. I also tutor my younger siblings (both GCSE level) in English and my sister in Film Studies and Media, and have tutored them since primary level.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand how difficult it can be for a student to grasp a specific idea when it is not laid out or deconstructed in a way which suits them. Still studying myself, I know that often teachers can brush over topics they assume others will understand immediately purely because they do. Because of this, my tutoring method can be as slow or as fast as suits the tutee, and I can create worksheets and schedules to suit the individual tutee's learning preference, whether that be visual, aural or conversational.

Personal Description:
Having been born and raised in multicultural Toronto to immigrant parents, I have a deep appreciation for intercultural communication and understanding. I speak French, Korean and English fluently, with English being my mother tongue. I am a strong supporter of differentiated teaching methods for each learner as the best learning comes with full understanding rather than standard memorisation. I am passionate about teaching and life long learning and look forward to helping my students achieve to the best of their potential.

Teaching Experience:

Trained in Canada with an Honours BA in French and a BEd from the University of Toronto, and currently completing a masters in creative writing at Goldsmiths, University of London, I have 8 years of teaching experience in mainstream schools, on three different continents. I have taught three years of secondary school French, French immersion, and history in Toronto, Canada, and two years of English as a second language to 15-17 years olds and adult learners in Seoul, South Korea. In London, England I have three years of outstanding primary school teaching experience as a KS2 classroom teacher. I have prepared a Year 6 class for their SATs with nearly all children meeting or surpassing their target levels. Currently, I am teaching KS1 and KS2 French at a comprehensive school in west London.

Tutoring Approach:

In our first meeting, we will discuss the goals and aims of the student and will set specific expectations for the student. Teaching will be adapted to the student's learning style and high expectations will be set.
