Personal Description:
I have tutored Maths, English and Special Needs now for five years, building up a rapport with each individual and their family to ensure best results. My tutoring experience spans from children aged 4 years to adults aged 44 years, with varying degrees of motivation, interest and abilities.

Due to my high interest in supporting others, I chose a career path as a Speech and Language Therapist, and I qualified in this esteemed profession 4 years ago. On a daily basis I work with children from pre-school age right up to young adults, in a range of settings from special needs schools and mainstream schools, to community clinics and home visits. I am highly passionate about helping all I support to work together to reach their potential.

I am a genuinely caring and generous person and I am more than capable of sharing my passion for Maths and English to anyone I work with, including those with additional needs.

Teaching Experience:

Through my job as a Speech and Language Therapist I work with children of all cognitive abilities on a one-to-one level to improve their communication and language skills. The work I do coincides with the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage, and I work with parents and teachers to set individualised targets, which is similar to the tutoring world.

Prior to commencing my current job I worked as a special needs assistant at a primary school. On a daily basis I was required to give additional support on a one-to-one basis to children who struggled in the (often) large classroom, by working through the literacy or numeracy curriculum at their own pace. I was also relied upon to support in assigned classrooms through supervising children while working on a task or taking groups of children for reading. Working in a school ensured that I keep current my knowledge of Educational and National Curriculum issues.

From June-August 2011, I travelled to Pennsylvania, USA, to work as a Speech and Language Therapist at a summer camp for children with special needs (age range 7-20). I was recommended for this job due to my extensive experience and my friendly positive nature. The experience of living and working with children and teens with individual needs and accompanying challenging behaviours highlighted the importance of taking a flexible holistic approach when assessing skills, implementing support and evaluating improvements.

In June 2009, I participated in the Student Associate Scheme organised by the University of Manchester. This involved intensive teacher training and then carrying out a block placement of three weeks within two schools teaching and assisting in core subjects e.g. Mathematics and English. I worked with two children in particular who struggled in these subjects and I helped improve their numeracy and literacy skills by adapting their learning technique to suit their individual needs.

Tutoring Approach:

For five years I have tutored Maths, English and Special Needs in three areas of the UK, including two major cities. I have assisted students of varying ages, abilities and additional needs including Dyslexia, Autism and Specific Language Impairment - from early years pupils to mature students. I find that tutees benefit from the one-to-one focus they are given, and the individualised plans we work from enforces enhancement of their current knowledge in their chosen subject areas.

I always ensure a person-centred approach is achieved when tutoring. Each tutee learns through different techniques and at different speeds so I develop my tutoring level and scope to suit the individuals needs. I tutored three children for 2013's 'Transfer Test' (Northern Ireland's Grammar School intake assessment) and the results confirmed that this approach is effective, as all sitting the demanding test passed with flying colours, with two getting into Northern Ireland's top Grammar School.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed my Ph.D, which was about the philosophy of folly in Shakespeare's plays.

Whereas English Literature, Language and Philosophy are my primary disciplines, I have also taught German and History up to A-Level standard. I graduated with a First Class degree in English Literature and received a high distinction for my Master's degree, which were both from London University. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which means that I am qualified to teach at university-level.

My ultimate objective is to teach and research at university level. I am a keen individual, who values the arts and humanities. I believe education is not simply a means to an end; rather, it offers exciting and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is fairly extensive and I have taught both in this country and abroad.

For the last two years, I have lectured and led seminars at Royal Holloway, University of London; I have also continued to teach A-Level and GCSE students English, Philosophy and History as I have done since 2009.

In 2010, I designed and taught a course for American university students, which was called "British Culture". This course was, in essence, an history of ideas in this country from the Roman invasion to the present.

My work has been published in major academic journals and my thesis is currently under consideration by publishers. At the other end of the spectrum, as an undergraduate, I worked as a teaching assistant in primary and secondary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I realise that at Key Stages 1,2, and 3 the emphasis needs to be on passing exams. At this level, I aim to provide an entertaining and relaxed session, which remains focused on providing and reinforcing the information required to pass an exam.

I hesitate, however, to say that my style is informal. I believe that when instructing younger children a certain amount of structure is required. This does not mean that the session needs be short-sighted; rather that we focus on a structured approach to attaining goals in an interesting and fulfilling way. At the higher levels and for mature students my approach is more relaxed.

I have 20 years of experience in publishing as a writer and editor and am passionate about nurturing English language skills and a love of English literature. I graduated from the University of Stirling with an honours degree in English Literature and have also taught English as a foreign language. My experience in publishing has trained me to write concisely and economically while retaining an imaginative grasp on a piece of work, a skill invaluable in writing essays and examination answers; and especially useful in assisting students with the new written assessments that, in Higher English, from 2016, comprise 30 per cent of the final examination mark.

I can empathise with students who are tussling with English, relish improving a person's understanding and enjoyment of the subject and take satisfaction from helping to develop their abilities not only in the practical sense of improving their powers of analysis and understanding of texts but in helping them think imaginatively and creatively. As a personal tutor, I have a proven record of upgrading students' performances, especially at Higher level, and have, in several instances, improved so dramatically pupils who were on course to fail Higher English that they went on to achieve an 'A' grade in their Higher examination.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' tutoring experience. In 2012, 65 per cent of my tutees for Higher English achieved an 'A' grade, with several Band 1s among them. In the 2013 Higher English examination, 75 per cent of my tutees obtained either an A or a B, with slightly more than half of those obtaining an A and several obtaining a distinction in doing so. In 2012 and 2013, all of my tutees at Standard Grade achieved either a band 1 or a Band 2. Similarly, in 2014, all National 5 students achieved an A or a B. At Higher, in 2014, 85 per cent of tutees achieved an A or a B, with the remainder, several of whom had been struggling severely, delighted to have achieved a pass. In 2015, 85 per cent of my tutees achieved an A in their Higher, Sixth Year Studies and National 5 examinations. The other 15 per cent achieved a B.

With my help, tutees have obtained the vital English qualification that was essential to them obtaining a place at such universities as: Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow and the Glasgow College of Art.

I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, in Egypt, both in private schools and in tutoring young people on an individual basis.

In publishing, I was frequently chosen to tutor new entrants to the profession because of my precise use of language and empathetic nature on a one-to-one level.

I studied English Literature to honours level at the University of Stirling and aim to pass on my love of the subject to students through establishing a rapport with them and recommending to them the type of literature that would complement their learning and enable them to derive pleasure from studying English.

Tutoring Approach:

On first meeting, I will discuss with the student how they wish to improve and which aspects of their English studies they feel require greatest attention. I will adapt tutorials to suit the student's needs and course of study. Additional exercises and study guides will be developed together, so that the student can participate with enthusiasm and purpose in the tutorials. This allows me to work to the student's strengths, to help them manage their problem areas more effectively and to derive greater enjoyment from the subject. I will adopt a measured approach and will use my communication skills to ensure that the student understands and absorbs each aspect of the lesson before progressing to the next stage. I aim to make lessons pleasurable and fun as a means of making learning easier, enjoyable and more memorable.

My name is Rose and I am a 26 year old tutor based in South London specialising in English at all levels, essay writing and exam technique. I can also help with Science from 11+, and Drama and Theatre Studies. I have experience of tutoring students with dyslexia, attention deficit disorders, and other special educational needs.

I grew up in Devon and attended Colyton Grammar School, where I obtained A grades in English Literature, Theatre Studies and Biology at A-Level. In 2004 I then went on to study for a BA in English and Drama at the University of Manchester, for which I achieved a double first. Whilst at university, I was involved with the Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force, teaching children aged 13-18.

At university I also started writing and performing comedy as part of a sketch group, and have continued to perform with them for the last four years, taking shows to the Edinburgh Festival every summer. In 2010, our show featured a group of young children aged 7-12, who I taught to perform through workshops and rehearsals. Alongside my career as a performer, I have worked as a teaching assistant in a high school in inner city Manchester, where I focused on one-to-one work with students with special educational needs.

Teaching Experience:

2008-2009 - TEACHING ASSISTANT, The Albion High School, Salford

I worked as a teaching assistant with students ranging from 11-16 in this very challenging inner city school, mainly in the science department. My duties included one-to-one support for students with a range of special educational and behavioural needs and general classroom support for teachers with difficult groups of students. My background in English allowed me to specialise in tutoring students with dyslexia and other special needs to complete coursework, as well as helping them to understand and engage with science as a subject.


2005-2007 - UNDER OFFICER/ INSTRUCTOR, Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force

I worked at the GMACF summer camps supervising and teaching basic military skills to groups of cadets aged 13-18, some of whom had behavioural difficulties. I designed lesson plans and teaching methods for this unique educational opportunity that would preserve discipline whilst maintaining an effective and stimulating learning environment.

As part of a show I created in 2010, I taught several different groups of children aged 7-12 the skills needed to perform as part of a professional theatre show. As well as teaching them stagecraft and acting technique, I also encouraged confidence and enjoyment as part of the learning experience

I am enthusiastic and friendly in my approach, and aim to promote in my students the same enjoyment in their subjects that I experienced whilst studying.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in BSc Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics external degree programme where I studied under a full scholarship for four years. I am committed to becoming an expert in the field of Economics and Mathematics and currently tutoring full-time before going to study MSc Economics at LSE starting September 2016.

Outside of university and in addition to tutoring I work as a swimming instructor teaching pupils aged 2 to 40+ in groups and on a 1:1 basis. I teach at private residence and specific leisure centres and have been in this role since 2009 and have thoroughly enjoyed it I also find it a nice complement to tutoring.

Recreationally I swim up to three times per week and play five- a - side fortnightly a remnant of my more sporting days as a school and college student. During that time I competed on many sports teams including Rugby, Hockey, Water Polo and Cricket.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Mathematics and Economics tutor for 4 years in this time my reliability and skill has enabled me to develop a good reputation which has allowed me to have a consistent base of 12 - 16 students on a weekly basis.

Career Highlights!

- Academic Year 2011 - 2012 I helped a student who was predicted a C grade at GCSE to achieve a coveted place at Eltham College after passing a difficult 16+ exam

- Academic year 2012 - 2013 I helped a student who scored a D grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 level after 8 months of tuition. He was the only student to score an A grade in his school since 2007.

- Academic Year 2013 - 2014 I helped a student who scored a C grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 Economics with an impressive 97% in Unit 1, 99% in Unit 2 and 100% in Unit 3. He had also had three previous tutors who he was dissatisfied with before coming to me.

Further Teaching Experience

At degree level I have taught Macro and Micro Economics to students attending Russell Group Universities, this year I helped an international student from Ukraine achieve over 70% in both Macro and Micro Economics.

I have taught A-Level Economics across Edexcel, AQA and OCR syllabuses with equal success. I have never had a student score below a B grade and have had several students score over 90% in modules.

I have taught Mathematics at A-Level, GCSE, 16+ and 11+ common entrance levels and covered AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE exam boards. I have helped students gain coveted places at top independent schools such as Eltham College and Bromley High. I have also helped students improve from as low as C grades at GCSE to A grades, however my most notable success this year came when I helped an AS Maths student who scored a D grade in January achieve a B grade in May with an impressive 84% in C1.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach embodies a long term approach to learning I teach students in a way which will allow them to be successful in higher study as well as their more short term exams. I also try to make students more confident in their abilities overall not just the material I teach.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation to success in academic study. I concentrate a lot of time and energy on instilling these basic principles in students.

I am also a strong believer in understanding over 'rope learning' I ensure that pupils understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, never encouraging them to simply regurgitate what they have seen previously.

I also encourage practical understanding of concepts frequently referencing real world examples and using objects to illustrate theory as I recognise that theory on its own given no relevance is harder to remember. Supplementary to this I also relate teaching material to potential job roles and tasks which I have knowledge of (mostly Banking or Business related) in order communicate usefulness to students and keep things interesting.

Finally I believe teaching successfully is ultimately about listening to your students I constantly encourage students to question things and express anything they don't understand or are not too sure of. If a student looks unsure or hesitant about something I will ask open questions or get them to explain concepts to me in order to fully grasp their understanding. This also helps build their confidence and ability to express themselves accurately.

Personal Description:
I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I very quickly realised that I could do a better job and took the role in house, initially teaching my own daughters before extending out to their friends.
To date I have tutored over 50 children who have gone onto their chosen schools and streams. I believe that tutoring should be about delivering skills to children that they can carry with them throughout their young lives and provide a solid platform on which to develop.

I studied Theology at both Leeds Trinity College and Durham University, where I achieved a First Class Honours degree and later Merit. After doing regular guest teaching and classroom assistance, I took the PTLLS Level 4 at the Advance Training Academy and began tutoring in 2014. Since then I have taught people from Cramlington, Durham, Dunston, Gateshead, and Sunderland (to name just a few examples). Each of my students has steadily increased their grades, achieving A*-C.

My aim is to provide first quality tuition in Religious Studies and Philosophy and to help people become more confident in these subjects. I am an individual who is committed to making education a lasting experience rather than a lecture to be endured. My experiences have taught me that each student has the potential to grow and change. To that end I take on students of all dispositions, from the confident and capable to nervous and struggling type.

I am based in the North East of England and offer face-to-face tuition to anyone in this region. However, I offer online tuition to people from other regions (Skype, phone or email).

My experience is threefold:
Classroom assistance: I did classroom work at Gateshead Volunteering and Opportunities Centre and New College Durham (2013). My duties involved: helping struggling students with classroom activities, helping them to express themselves and dealing with classroom behavioural issues. When working with students, I was noted for being approachable, compassionate, kind and patient.
Guest teaching: I gave regular guest lessons in Theology and Religious studies at Leeds Trinity University College, Jesmond Methodist Church, Gosforth High School and the Royal Grammar School (2011-14). My lessons were recognised as well-prepared, thought-provoking, and thorough.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition:
Face-to-face: tuition is conducted at the student's home. It is always good practice to have an adult around the house. Face-to-face tuition is available to any student within reasonable travelling distance of Newcastle City Centre.
Online: tuition is conducted via phone, Skype and email (depending on the client preference). Online tuition is available to any student in the UK.

Each lesson is tailored to individual needs. The preliminary meeting will focus on your learning needs, and from this we will establish your goals for the tuition and the process for helping you to meet them. We will discuss how we can make the sessions play to your individual learning styles and strengths.

In lessons, we usually focus on two specific areas:
Extra teaching: we will usually have a discussion on a particular topic.
You will be given a detailed hand-out, some discussion questions, and (if necessary) a brief background on the important key thinkers.
Essay-writing: I will provide an essay-writing formula, which we will then
apply to past-paper questions, which will support you to write essays based on past exam papers. As part of the service, I will review the answer and provide detailed feedback to support further learning.

Personal Description:
As an energetic, polite, and highly motivated individual I absolutely commit to anything that I participate in: from playing musical instruments, to touch rugby to teaching! I take my commitments very seriously and I am always dedicated to my work, throwing my considerable personality to inspire all those around me to do better.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a 4th Year student at the University of Stirling studying Secondary Education with English and will graduate with a BA Hons in August 2016. As a student on the course I have first hand experience of teaching to numbers between 12 and 30 pupils ranging from the ages of 10 up to 17, teaching all the Scottish National qualifications and the 'new Higher'. This has happened both within the university and out on placements within schools in my area; therefore I have an acute understanding of the difference between English studies and English teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very professional yet enthusiastic individual who takes an immense pride in his work: being pro-active and flexible to meet the individual requirements of pupils / clients is something that I take very seriously. Positivity is also a very important aspect that I bring to my teaching as I believe that a positive attitude fosters both positive results and a positive work ethic for my pupils.

I am a confident, vibrant young man - studying a business and management degree at Aberystwyth University and on track for a first class degree. I have stellar exam results and have attended both Tadcaster Grammar School and Millfield School achieving top results in all subjects studied. I have experience of the differing examination boards and happy to help whenever required - I will provide material if needed, otherwise I will help with whatever queries you may have regarding work your child has been given.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both my sister and my cousin for Maths, Chemistry and Biology - they have just had their GCSE results back and gained A* and A respectively (in all three subjects). Business - the experience I have was tutoring my peers at the same time as sitting my exams. Presently I tutor my girlfriend for her first year university chemistry examinations - we await the result as of yet but am quietly confident (10/01/16)!

Required as and when, supportive comments but not without constructive criticism.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher and I have over 7 years experience working in education. I currently work as as Personal Assistant and Learning Support for my disabled sister as she studies for her Masters degree.

In 2009 I obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education specialising in Media Studies and Special Educational Needs at University of Portsmouth.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating I moved to London and worked as a SEN supply teacher in schools across London, I then went on to teach young people with Behavioural Issues and SEN on a one-to-one basis.

My varying experiences working in both specialist and mainstream schools, and also one-to-one tuition, has given me experience in teaching all academic and vocational subjects at varying levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to find out as much as I can about my student before I tutor them, such as strengths, areas of improvement, interests and their preferred way of learning.

I try to be creative with my teaching and tailor learning plans to each individual. I like my lessons to be enjoyable and fun, as I feel students take in information better when they're having a positive experience, although I am able to establish clear boundaries and ensure my learners stay focused throughout the session.

I prefer to carry out tuition in a public place, such as a library or community centre.
