Personal Description:
I am a friendly 26 year-old native English speaker, from Glasgow. I am in my third and final year of my PhD in philosophy at the University of Dundee. I still live in Glasgow and travel to Dundee most Wednesdays. I have done various jobs, including teaching, bar work, nannying and library work. I have recently returned from Paris, where I lived for two months. I got involved in various projects in Paris, including work with the European Independent Film Festival.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for two semesters as a university tutor at the University of Dundee. I taught classes of undergraduate students: Semester 1: Plato / Critical Thinking
Semester 2: Foundations of Modern Philosophy /Introduction to Modern Political Theory
In addition to teaching classes of undergraduate students, my duties included keeping office hours, attending departmental meetings, organising research seminars and marking papers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed, but firm approach to tutoring; I feel that a comfortable atmosphere is essential for learning. But I strive to make sure that this atmosphere does not lead to complacency. I expect my students to do the work I set for them (often the work set will be decided by both the student and myself, as I expect a degree of responsibility from the student - this, of course, applies for older students).

Personal Description:
I am a young professional, recent English graduate, living and working in North Hertfordshire. I am training to teach next year and have recently spent a lot of time in schools, working with both GCSE and A level students.

Teaching Experience:

I have little experience of teaching, but having left university just over a year ago and completing my A levels in 2003, I am still in touch with the AS and A2 specs for English and am easily capable of brushing up on texts before meeting pupils. I also still have a lot of course notes and secondary reading material and I'd hope that, as a younger person, students might find tuition from me a little less daunting.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to prepare handouts and visuals as well as going through essay structures and exam techniques for the student to keep in their own notes. Some close textual analysis of key passages in the text as well as more top-line views of plots, themes and characters. GCSE, AS and A2 level specifications are widely available online and give detailed points of focus. I also have a lot of example material, that differs minimally from the notes and handouts I have from A level and GSCE.

I am a likeable guy with an energetic and honest personality. I have often thought about teaching and friends have urged me to do it. I am ambitious and successful in my professional life, but I am hoping that the chance to tutor might give me valuable experience to go into teaching within the public sector.

Personal Description:
I graduated from The University of Hull in June 2008, gaining a Bachelors Degree in Music where I specialised in Solo and Ensemble Performance. My final year dissertation focused soley on the different teaching styles which are implemented by music teachers, this inspired me to apply for a place on a Secondary PGCE course at The University of Hull. I believe that everyone has the right to learn, and that this is best done so in a non-pressurised environment. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and I realise the importance of education in all aspects of life.

I already have an advanced CRB check, and I am extremely flexible with hours. I am well qualified to teach Maths, English, Science and Music. My fee is negotiable depending on individual circumstances.

Teaching Experience:

I mainly have experience of teaching music to children and adults, in the field of private brass instrumental and piano tuition, and with teaching primary and GCSE level mathematics to children and adults of all ages.

Whilst studying for my degree I completed several teaching placements at schools which gave me insight to how subjects are taught in schools and how pupils react to different teaching styles.

I would now like to tutor for other subjects such as English and Science as I believe these to be key to educational development. I am comfortable with tutoring people of all ages and abilities. I also have knowledge of specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

More recently I have tutored two adult learners whom where studying for GCSE equivilency examinations, and tutored five year 11 pupils whom all gained A's and A*'s in their GCSE exxaminations (summer 09).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very relaxed and informal. I believe that it is essential to create a stimulating environment for study and that clear lesson objectives should be provided to the student.

My aim is for the pupils to develop their own skills in the subject area. I use a range of different teaching skills which I adapt to suit the tutees individual needs, enabling me to explain concepts in a variety of different ways, to find the method that best suits each individual so that they gain as much as possible from the tutoring sessions.

Personal Description:
Hiya! I'm currently a student taking a gap year before I go to University. I've just sat my A-levels in English, Biology and Psychology; last year I obtained grade AAB in these subjects, hopefully I do the same or better this year!

My mum used to tutor children and I used to help her. Unfortunately she passed away. Children used to love coming to her, she used to enjoy it, and I used to enjoy it too as I'd get a sense of accomplishment knowing a child has gone home learning something new, and is progressing at school. Due to this gap year I'm taking I am fully able to take on the responsibility of tutoring children again.

Teaching Experience:

I've done some volunteer work as a teaching assistant. Also have experience teaching previously with my mum.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel I have achieved excellent grades so far, and I would like to share this knowledge with those younger than me. I have no teaching qualifications as I'm only still an A-level student - hence the low price. I have taught before but the only problem is that the children I taught with my mum I am no longer in contact with. And because of this I can offer the first lesson free, see how you find it, and if you think it's worth it then we can carry on at the price offered. It'll also give me a chance to prove I am trustworthy, attentive, and child friendly.

Personal Description:
Trained as a professional musician, I have had almost 10 years worth of music tutoring experience, ranging from absolute beginners through to Degree-level students. I teach private singing and piano lessons, and since moving to Bristol a year ago, also Maths and English to GCSE level. I am looking for a few extra tutees as I now have some spaces since some of my lovely A-level students have gone off to university. A few of my current students have English as their second language, and I am very open to more students in a similar position.

Teaching Experience:

1998 - 2008: Many private music students, both instrumental and theory-based.
King's College London 2004-2005: Tutor of harmony to 1st year undergrads
Cavendish School for Girls, Camden, London 2002-2004: A-level theory and composition

Currently: part-time cover teacher Cotham School, Bristol
private tutor in Maths, English and Music

Tutoring Approach:

I have found over the last 10 years that my tutoring approach has changed. Through my experience in music, I have learnt to appreciate the different ways that young people learn. I try to ensure that my teaching style is individually tailored to each student - some require more auditory learning, others need much more visual stimuli to achieve understanding. My teaching style is clear, relevant and on course with the National Curriculum.

Personal Description:
I thoroughly enjoy working with young children. I find their enthusiasm for life very infectious! I am a hands on teacher who recognises that all children learn in specific and individual ways which I tailor my sessions towards. I like to work within their interests, targeting work towards the child personally. No two lessons are ever the same! I have four young children myself, the eldest of which has just completed her Year 2 National Curriculum Tests, so I fully understand the pressure that this puts on a family and the child them self.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a Primary School teacher in 2005 and have been teaching in the same Ofsted Outstanding Primary School ever since. I have taught Year 1, 3, 4 and 5 as well as supported Year 2 and 6 children on a one-to-one basis within school. I have benefited from Every Child a Writer (ECaW) support within my school and am trained to deliver Catch Up Literacy as well, which is an intensive and tailored learning programme to support literacy skills through the development of reading. Next school year I will become the Number Counts teacher for out school, which involves intensive daily maths work with underachieving Year 2 children. I am also PSHCE coordinator for my school, which has developed my interpersonal skills and enhanced my understanding of the personal needs of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

My intitial sessions focus on getting to know the child, their interests and hobbies, as well as their current academic levels. This enables me to tailor each tutoring session towards their needs and likes. This ensures that the child finds the learning accessible and enjoyable, leading to much greater progress much more quickly than that which is made in a classroom setting. The child is at the heart of the tutoring, their progress and enjoyment is the most important part of the process.

Personal Description:
I am a University student, studying in Liverpool. I have three grade A results at A-level, in English Literature, Drama and Theatre Studies and Religious Studies. Furthermore, I received three awards at A-level, for Outstanding Academic Achievement and gaining the highest marks in English Literature and Drama and Theatre Studies.
My G.C.S.E qualifications are as follows in my chosen tutorial fields: English Literature- grade A.
English Language-Grade A, Religion-Grade A, Maths- Grade B, Double Award Science-Grade BB.
I am currently studying for a BA Hons. Degree in Journalism.

Teaching Experience:

I am not a qualified teacher, however that does not affect my ability to tutor. My academic background and achievements are firm examples of my skillful knowledge in particular areas.

I can tutor a child in primary school in the following subjects: English, Math and Science. I use various methods of learning, and provide the tools to allow the child to build upon their own knowledge. Learning can be challenging for some children, but through practice and allowing the child to see it can be fun and highly rewarding means they too can succeed.

I have experience in tutoring primary school children for the transfer test to secondary school, which determines whether or not they will gain admission to a grammar stream.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that determination and confidence in both the student and tutor is necessary to achieve the best possible results in the subject.
The mind needs to be fed wisdom on a regular basis, otherwise it will become tired and lazy. This is usually the reason why those who have left education for a long period of time, struggle with aspects of learning new material. However, through regular attention, reading and testing yourself, it soon becomes easier for one to interpret a problem etc.
I find I have a very relaxed approach to tutoring, I like the student to feel comfortable and at ease. They should not feel stressed or worried at my sessions. This does not mean that I do not expect full commitment to learning from my students though.
I am confident that with my help, anyone with little academic qualifications can be on their way to a higher path of wisdom and understanding.

Personal Description:
I have just graduated from Warwick University and about to start a MA in Russian and East European Literature and Culture at UCL. Though I will now be concentrating on Russian Literature I still hope to take the "Prison Writing" and "Hamlet and it's Afterlife" modules, the former of which includes a variety of Shakespeare plays (King Lear, Measure for Measure, Richard II) and the latter which intensively engages with the play and it's varied 'afterlife' in performance, criticism and adaptation. "Shakespeare and Selected Dramatists of his Time" was my favourite module throughout the three years I spent at Warwick University and I feel I have acquired a thorough understanding of the inner mechanics of his plays, of which I read over twenty.

Other modules that I have greatly enjoyed include "The European Novel", "European Theatre", "Romantic and Victorian Poetry", and "Seventeenth Century Literature and Culture". These are all to be found in the GCSE and A-Level syllabus, from the novels of Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy to the theatre of Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, and also poetry from Donne through Blake and Tennyson.

After doing my masters I hope to enter the 'Teach First' programme in which I will teach in a challenging and deprived secondary school where there is a shortage of teachers. I benefited from a teacher in the scheme during my GCSE years and hope to emulate her ability to arouse enthusiasm and a love for English Literature.

In my spare time I like to play a variety of sports, including football, tennis and squash. I also recently ran the Great North Run for Spina Bifida UK and help raise money for Oxfam by being a voluntary steward at music festivals during the summer.

Teaching Experience:

As a recent graduate I have no official teaching experience, though I do intent to enter the "Teach First" scheme when I complete my master's degree. The most rewarding aspect of university for me was the seminar-based method of learning which relied on the students as individuals to lead and control discussion, effectively functioning as teachers for each other. I have frequently began seminars with enjoyable and successful presentations lasting between fifteen and thirty minutes as necessary and which have included handouts with full bibliography and the positive feedback subsequently received makes this 'teaching' extremely rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

The approach I will take to tutoring will depend largely upon the tutee's preferences and ability. If the student is only beginning to read a Shakespearian play, for example, then the initial sessions will revolve around getting to grips with the difficult language and the often complex and, at first glance, boring plot. Later sessions will attempt to instil enthusiasm by looking at the characters of the play as real people and the occurrences of the play as real life. How far is King Lear to blame for his daughter's behaviour? What causes Hamlet's disjointed speech? These questions, and other like them, can be debated freely with the tutee in a relaxed conversational atmosphere in contrast to the schoolroom which, in my experience, consists solely of plodding through the play line by line. My tutors at university placed emphasis upon an interactive and multi-faceted approach to learning and we frequently watched DVDs of Shakespeare and other dramatists. I am fortunate to own the complete BBC Shakespeare plays and this will feature in my sessions; apart from providing a bit of respite it will also arouse questions regarding the director's choice of filming and portrayal of characters. The interactive approach will also include reading and discussing excerpts of critical essays which I found particularly illuminating in my own studies and which are appropriate to the tutee's level. I will also be happy to go through past exam papers and consult the tutee regarding assignments and coursework.

Personal Description:
I am a mature international student from India, currently in London doing DTLLS from LSME, London. I have come here to qualify myself to UK standards and also to keep up with the global trends in education and academics. Interacting with young people is the best and most enjoyable way of keeping up with the world around us. That is why I have chosen teaching not only as a profession but also a vocation! I love 'teaching' and firmly believe that one has first to be a good learner to be a good teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years of teaching experience, having taught students of different age groups and abilities. I have been mostly working with secondary level and A level learners. I have meaningful experience of SEN as well. I have taught English to year 9 and 10 students(equivalent to GCSE). Psychology and Economics to year 11 and 12 students (equivalent to A levels). I have worked with the international curriculum/national curriculum and am conversant of the CIE/Edexcel assessment pattern. With my rich and varied experience, I believe I can make a difference to my students academic standards and help them to reach their potential.

Tutoring Approach:

I conduct an initial assessment to evaluate my learners needs and learning styles. This helps me to determine the kind of inputs my learners would require; how I will be able to assisst them in their learning journey and keep them motivated to reach their academic goals within a mutually agreeable time frame. I prefer to facilitate learning and encourage my students to explore different routes to understand and make sense of what they are learning. However, depending on individual needs my style of teaching may change so that i deliver the best for my learners and enable them to chieve the desired learning outcomes. All this is in keeping with the needs of the school syllabus/national curriculum. I believe it is important to carry out continuous assessment to understand where my learners are in there learning journey so that I may help them to move on to the next step.

As I mentioned earlier, I trained at Leeds Metropolitan university from 2002 - 2006. I completed my BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education and returned to the North East to live and work. I have been teaching at my current school for 4 years now. I currently teach Year 5 (9-10 years) however I have experience across the primary age range in all subjects.
