Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Physics with Astrophysics, which was a four year degree, which included me living and learning in Italy. My degree was challenging yet enjoyable, and contained a lot of Maths, which to me was great! As a born communicator writing and teaching have always appealed, and I am keen to get into those areas. I also have a qualification in teaching English as a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

ithin the last five years I have taught a wide variety of learners from the age of 14 all the way up to 45! This includes Maths, Physics, and EFL. I also taught children EFL for 6 weeks over a summer. Whilst at university I tutored 1st and 2nd years in Physics, which included a lot of Maths. I taught English as a foreign language whilst I was in Italy. I am very comfortable in a one on one environment. W

Tutoring Approach:

As a keen learner myself, I understand what it is to learn. As a recent graduate I have the advantage of my subjects being fresh in my head, and a unique attitude to how we learn, what works and what doesn't. Always patient I can push without pressurising and make you feel more confident in your ability. I am also keen to know what and how my pupil wants to learn, and can listen as well as I can communicate

Personal Description:
Professional teacher for over 30 years specialising in adult education and teenagers.

I have taught at all levels, including at Universities, around the world and am happy to travel where necessary.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for over 20 years around the world teaching IT and related subjects for companies such as Learning Tree, Peritas and IBM. I was one of the first qualified network engineers in the UK.

In 2006 I took and passed the Cambridge University CELTA course and exams and now teach English as a foreign language either one to one or to small groups ranging in age from 14 to adult.

Business related courses include presentation skills and the art of public speaking; gender dysfunctionality courses and IT services courses (operating systems, networking, technologies, A+ etc)

Tutoring Approach:

With English the aim is to provide a personal conversation led approach to learning supported by written exercises to confirm the rules. Depending on the numbers involved the approach is practical and involves music, role playing, presentations, reading and writing skills. All training is geared to the needs of the individual and there is no set approach.

Language teaching can be more effective in groups and the cost for 2-4 students is 25 per hour. Please ask about larger group sizes.

All teaching can be for groups of up to 16. Costs will depend on numbers and location. Please ask for a quote. All rates exclude traveling costs and teaching materials.

Personal Description:
I have worked in education all my adult life, and ten years ago embarked upon a freelance career which has enabled me to focus on the kind of work I love, and to spend more time with my family, and do the things I most enjoy.

As an English graduate, my greatest passion is literature. I read a wide range of novels, drama and poetry. Authors I have recently enjoyed include Ian McEwan, Philip Pullman, Helen Dunmore, Kazuo Ishiguro... too many to mention!

I spend a lot of time writing and completed a six month course in novel writing with the Faber Academy on which I was delighted to be offered a place. I have had a number of articles and short stories published, and am working on my first novel.

Teaching Experience:

My first job was teaching English to young speakers of other languages during the summer vacations when I was at University - many years ago!

After I graduated in English I qualified as a teacher. My first full-time post was in a sixth-form college, where I taught English at a variety of levels to A-level and University entrance. After two further full-time teaching posts in a 14-19 secondary school and another sixth-form college, I moved into Adult and Community Education. During much of this time I also took on a number of part-time posts, tutoring English, English to Speakers of other Languages, Creative Writing and General Studies in a university extra-mural department, the Workers Education Association and in a number of prisons. I served on the English A-level set books committee of a national examinations board, and have worked as a part-time examiner.

For the past ten years I have been working as a freelance education consultant, trainer and writer. Much of my education consultancy and training work has involved facilitating and coaching young people and professionals in a variety of contexts and a range of subject areas such as communication skills, business writing skills and writing for the media.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer distance and online tutoring, using Skype, telephone and email. When I am working with students in this way I provide them with extensive and constructive feedback on their written work, enabling them to understand how they can improve their coursework and achieve the skills and confidence necessary to write succinct and relevant essays required for examinations. Many of the students whom I have supported have achieved top grades in GCSEs, A-levels and degrees.

I firmly believe that we only learn effectively when we find the learning experience interesting, relevant and meaningful. My first priority is to endeavour to ensure that my students are having that kind of experience! I also believe that learning should be enjoyable and fun. Sometimes, of course, learning is about studying things we are not so interested in just to get through an exam - a means to a hopefully more enjoyable end. In that case I help students to find the most effective ways for them to do just that - and hope that even this might be enjoyable too!

I do not believe that good teaching is about pouring knowledge into students, but is about drawing learning out of them and supporting them to teach themselves. We all have huge areas of strength, skill and wisdom, and I always try to enable students to recognise theirs and to develop them to their fullest potential.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT WRITE STUDENTS' ESSAYS FOR THEM, WHICH I HAVE SOMETIMES BEEN ASKED TO DO!

Personal Description:
WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY:

"My son has improved from being a B student in his sciences to becoming an A/A* student."
"Richard uses very simple but effective methods..."
Shabana, Mother, UK

"He taught me a lot about English, gave me science tutoring and was a skilled teacher and friend."
Kiattisak, Student, Thailand

Teaching Experience:

I have over four years' teaching experience in both the UK and abroad. I have taught at every level, from primary up to college but my main experience is at secondary level. I have also had the pleasure of teaching in a Vietnamese monastery and at a school for Burmese refugees.

I A-levels in all three sciences and maths so I feel very confident in helping students up to GCSE level. My degree is in the field of medicine, so I can help out with biology studies up to A-level.

I have taught science in Poland. I also taught English as a foreign language in both Thailand and Vietnam. I wrote and directed a play and refurbished a theatre, which was funded by a grant which I obtained from the Thai Ministry of Education, viewed by both primary and secondary students and was received warmly by the Governor of Surin Province.

Tutoring Approach:

In science, I think it best to start by assessing what you know and finding out where you need help. Please supply me with the following details:

-The subject and level being studied e.g. GCSE chemistry
-The examination board e.g. AQA
-A list of subjects you wish to cover

For revision, I like to use mind maps, prompt cards, past papers and specification checklists but if you prefer a different approach, just let me know.

For English and English as a foreign language (ESL/TESOL), I believe that bringing the language to life with drama, media, humour, games and conversation is the best approach. I have a full working knowledge of correct grammatical usages but try to avoid grammatical terms if possible. For students requiring help with English in science, I prefer to focus on the meanings of keywords and use simplified language. I think it is important to have a knowledge of the students' mother tongue to help them avoid linguistic pitfalls. So, if you learn English with me, I will try to learn your language too.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am in my forties and I live in Worthing. I specialise in teaching English as a foreign language. I welcome teaching both individuals and small groups with everyday, educational or business English.

I enjoy travelling, meeting new people and learning about other countries. I have just returned from teaching English in Japan for four years, which I loved.

I also have experience working in both education and business in the UK. I was a primary school teacher for eight years and worked in insurance for 11 years.

Teaching Experience:

-I taught Keys Stage 1 and 2 for eight years in an East London primary school. The majority of which did not speak English regularly at home.
-I carried out training on technical insurance issues as part of my job with the insurance company.
-I taught English in two of Japan's well known English conversation schools (ECC and AEON). I worked with students ages ranging from 18 months to 70+ at all levels from beginner to advanced. I also did some work in a few Japanese kindergartens and some summer relief work in a local Worthing language school (CES).

Tutoring Approach:

I like lessons to be fun and the students to feel relaxed. The needs of the students comes first as everyone is different.

After an initial assessment ,I agree with the tutee a lesson progress plan. The lessons will have a clear goal and will relate to real life wherever possible.

Please note that all lessons with children should be at their home with a responsible adult present or available.

Personal Description:
My name is Barbara, I am Spanish and have been living in England since September 2005. I am 36 years old and I have been teaching both English and Spanish since I finished my A-levels. I have always enjoyed teaching, communicating and sharing my knowledge with other people. I have always found languages extremely interesting and I have been encouraged to study them. My father speaks Spanish, English, French and Italian. Since a very young age, I had three passions: Teaching, Languages and Nursing. I am not the type of person that wants to regret not doing something and wondering "What would have happened if …" so, I have done both Degrees, in Primary Teaching and Adult Nursing.
At the moment I am working some shifts as an Oncology Nurse but my aim is to focus 100% on the Spanish lessons.

Teaching Experience:

After finishing my A-Levels, I decided to do a Bilingual Course. I knew I liked and enjoyed languages but I did not have a well defined vocation by that time. Once I finished the two year studies including Spanish, English and French, I started working as a private English teacher for adult students with different requirements. That happened between 1997 and 2000. By that time I was sure Teaching was for me. I enrolled in a Primary Teaching Degree at CES Don Bosco University in Madrid that lasted four years. In 2005 I decided to teach abroad and I came to England with my husband. I started a business as Self-Employed Spanish Teacher for groups and individuals that lasted until I finished my second Degree as an Adult Nurse. During those years at Anglia Ruskin University I continued to work as a private teacher.
If you are interested in talking to some of my previous students or checking references, I am more than happy to provide them. I have an up to date CRB and my Self-Employed documentation to prove all the above mentioned dates.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about teaching and working with children and adults and I am fully aware of the impact teachers can have on the student's future.
Under my point of view, a good teacher should be inspiring and encouraging and therefore remembered by the students forever. A great teacher must be aware of the long lasting impact their words and actions will have on the lives of his/her students.
A teacher must be able to hold the student attention at all times through an engaging personality and an interesting teaching style. In order to achieve this, the teacher needs to establish clear and realistic objectives for each lesson promoting positive behaviours and allowing space for possible changes in the classroom.
My experience as a private teacher and as a nurse have allowed me to develop my management and communication skills, both of them key to provide quality teaching. I have always had an excellent rapport with students and their parents in order to keep them informed about the lessons and possible issues. This should never interfere with the trusting relationship established between teacher and pupil. I have always had high expectations and encouraged my students to work at their best possible level.
I am a dedicated, enthusiastic and and responsible person who would love to continue teaching until the day I retire.
If you are interested in receiving information about my tuitions, please do not hesitate in contacting me.
Thanks and see you soon!

Personal Description:
Degree in English Studies in the University of Valencia (Spain);
Academic year abroad in University of Sheffield;
Current student in Chesterfield College.

Teaching Experience:

Individual English lessons to children from 8 to 17 years old, as a foreign language;
Individual English lessons to adults, as a foreign language;
Internship as an English teacher in a high school in Spain;
Practical Spanish lessons to English people living in Spain.

Tutoring Approach:

Classes are based on the communicative approach, focused on skills and real-life experiences rather than structures or systems. Activities that involve real communication promote learning.
Following a book can facilitate the student's organization. Using authentic material such as songs, movies and magazines/newspapers is also a vital component of the class, so as to both motivate the learner and make the course enjoyable.
First, comes an initial meeting with the student to analyse the needs, to test previous knowledge and to establish the direction tuition should take. Then I begin to devise a course of study to address gaps in knowledge and build skills, tailoring material to the student.
