Personal Description:
Hello! I'm a friendly and qualified 1-to-1 tutor with lots of experience, living in South East London.

I've lived and worked in Spain on three separate occasions: I find its culture, history and languages fascinating.

I also teach English as a foreign language, and you couldn't be in a better city to learn English - London is fantastic! Welcome!

Teaching Experience:

I did a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages at Exeter University in 2007, and a CELTA (TEFL) at St Giles College, Brighton in 2005. Since then I've been teaching on and off in the UK and Spain, and completing my Masters degree in Spanish Translation.

I have taught Young Learners of 5+ years, through teenagers and up to adults - the majority of my experience is with teenagers.

My 1-1 students have all passed their GCSE, AS and A2 level exams with B's, A's and A*'s. Moreover, we have built good relationships together and learnt from each other along the way. References can be supplied if you wish.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a creative person, spontaneous yet thoughtful, and I like to tailor my approach on an individual basis. I try to keep my lessons a fair mix of listening, speaking, reading and writing practice though, all with good momentum and interest levels. You tell me what interests you - from One Direction to global warming! - and we'll incorporate it into activities so that you are more engaged with your learning.

My speciality is grammar; helping you overcome any grammar-related fears in foreign languages, to get you confident about your own ability to comprehend how language works and start manipulating it yourself.

I can travel to you, for a slightly higher hourly fee, or you can come to my house. In any case, I look forward to hearing from and working with you!

Personal Description:
I'm an Oxford graduate (B.A. (Hons), M.St.) with a real passion for language and its place within human culture. I have also lived and worked in Italy, France and Spain.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years' worth of varied experience. I am a qualified teacher of Modern Languages and currently work in a top Manchester school. Previously, I have worked full time as a tutor through some of London's top agencies, including Keystone Tutors and Enjoy Education. I have also taught translation (Italian to English) for St John's and Christ Church Colleges, Oxford, and tutored English Language, English Literature, French, Italian, Spanish and History for GCSE and A level. I have also been teaching English as a Foreign Language for over five years.

In addition, I have considerable experience teaching younger children literacy and foreign languages. I have particular experience of tutoring children who have studied in non-Anglophone environments and schools (especially French, Italian and Russian) as they prepare for examinations in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe it is important to reinforce students' existing knowledge, while continuing to push the boundaries of their learning. Furthermore, I encourage a holistic approach when tutoring and entice students to see links across different fields and subjects, thereby heightening the value of their tuition and its use value.

I encourage the study of language and literature together, focusing on working very closely with particular texts while still seeing them within the broader parameters of literature as a whole. It is my belief that neither language nor literature could or should be entirely separated from the other.

With regard to language specifically, I encourage spoken and written fluency by building upon a solid framework of linguistic instruction and cultural competence. I also emphasise both the academic and practical merits of studying a foreign language.

I offer both one-to-one tuition and /or studying in a batch. Besides Maths, I also tutor A-Levels and GCSE Physics and English Language. I am very flexible around university hours as it is the only thing I am engaged with.

Tutoring Approach:

All subjects are taught through explanation, reasoning and home practices. Science is taught through understanding of the theory while Mathematics is taught by showing the simple steps and with small tricks to remember the method or to remember any value such as sin 30=0.5. English as a foreign language is taught through reading, writing and speaking practices besides knowing the grammar.

Emphasis is given on the topics which the student finds difficulty in understanding. After every session, the topic related exercises and homework are given for better understanding and to build student's confidence to solve any problem relating the topic.

Personal Description:
I am a retired registered nurse with experience in the field of mental health, continence therapy and Red Cross tutoring. I am also a qualified social worker and was employed in that area for several years. My other employment history includes working as an accounts clerk, a riding instructor and a laboratory technician. I have also had a market stall selling vegetarian food and trading in antiques and collectibles. I am now semi retired but teach English as a second language and paint animal portraits.

I have a BA in History As part of my degree I did levels in Anglo Saxon, Linguistics and English Language. In 2012 I completed HND Contemporary Art Practice. I also have a MYOB certificate and a certificate in Print Media Skills. I have some knowledge of French and Greek and can generally work out the written form of most European languages. I passed Latin at O level and again as a first year university subject and still have some ability in this subject.

My interests include playing Bridge, genealogy, painting and volunteering for Cats' Protection and a local cat shelter. I enjoy quiz games and am a voracious reader. I am learning Greek and can generaly understand the written form of most Romance languages.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is varied. It includes teaching children to ride, first aid tutoring for the Red Cross and teaching health and hygiene in schools. When I was nursing one of my roles was to teach patients cooking, budgeting and general survival skills. Part of my nursing role was supervision and on the job training of new staff. I have also been a volunteer adult literacy tutor. I was a hands on parent with both my children during their school years and supervised and tutored their homework where necessary.
The last three years I have volunteered with Diverbo and Vaughantown, Spanish organisations that teach English. The volunteering is in the field of conversational English and takes place in various venues in Spain and Germany.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the role of tutor should be that of facilitator. People need to learn at their own speed and to be motivated to extend themselves to try new techniques and methods. People need encouragement to express their own opinions if these are not necessarily the given viewpoint. They need to learn to back up their arguments with cohesive facts and supported documentation. Above all I think learning should be fun and expand people's abilities and knowledge, to create a thirst for more learning. I like to incorporate humour into my teaching sessions s I believe people remember jokes long after they have forgotten sermons!

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old graduate from the University of Sheffield with a 2.1 degree in Psychology.I am a friendly person with a strong academic background who enjoys helping people in areas they are struggling in, and seeing them through until they are confident in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many people over the past 4 years, ranging in ages and academic ability. I am proud to say that every person I have tutored has improved by at least one grade. My greatest achievement was with my first ever tutee who came to me on an E grade, and with my help was able to get a high B in her English A level. I have alot of experience helping children pass the 11+.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to create a calm and comfortable environment for the tutee. I try to make the learning of the particular area enjoyable and try to use effective methods that were used on me as I was learning, incorporated with other ideas I have, to ensure that the tutee learns as much as possible in the time I am with them. I also make a conscious effort to get to know each tutee well, so that I can cater my skills specifically to them and their individual needs in order for them to do as well they possibly can.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of world-class university King's College London with a BA English Language and Communication degree, I previously attended Bolton School Girls' Division - a leading independent day school.

Throughout my education I have achieved top grades and have often been praised for my high attainment. Having been moved up a year I am a year ahead of my schooling, and thus started university aged 17.

I also sat Year 6 Key Stage 2 SATs at the same time as my Year 2 Key Stage 1 SATs when I was 7 years old, achieving three Level 4s (the average grade expected of an 11 year old). I have since gained outstanding GCSE results (8 A*s and 3 As) and A Level results (3 A*s) which demonstrates my academic aptitude and therefore my ability to tutor to a high standard.

I am passionate to share my knowledge with others and take great pride in providing interesting, interactive and thorough lessons for my tutees.

From my previous tutoring I am very familiar with the national curriculum for all levels and am fully trained and CRB checked to work with younger pupils.

I have been awarded several prizes for my passion and dedication to tutoring including a Certificate in Leading Educational Impact, Certificate in Leading Community Development, KCL Half-Laurel, KCL Silver Crown and Team Up Rising Leaders Award.

Teaching Experience:

Primary
I have previously worked with primary school children from ages 4 - 6 helping them with reading, writing and storytelling.

KS3
I have tutored several KS3 pupils ages 11-13 in the past in both English and Mathematics.

GCSE & A Level
I have spent the past year volunteering tutoring English to GCSE pupils and English Literature/exam technique to A-Level pupils, in deprived areas of London through the "TeamUp" scheme.

I have returned to my secondary school on several occasions running workshops for Year 11 and Year 13 students on several aspects of English so I am well practiced at working with students of all ages.

Tutoring Approach:

As mentioned above my approach to tutoring focuses on interesting, interactive and thorough lessons.

I am highly responsive to a tutees preferences and needs.

I strive to seek out interesting teaching materials that are relevant to students, for example I have been praised on several occasions by my current year ten students for bringing in newspaper articles about the Olympics and charity pamphlets when we were working on "writing to inform" and "writing to persuade" as these were topics they were interested in.

Personal Description:
***CURRENTLY LIVING IN GERMANY & NOT AVAILABLE FOR UK TUITION****

I am a professional in my 30s with degrees in English & Italian Literature (BA 2:1, Warwick 2000) and the History of Medicine & Science (MA Merit, Birkbeck College, University of London). I also hold a CELTA qualification in teaching English Language to adults.

Following my masters degree I studied acting at Rose Bruford College and have performed at fringe venues in London and Belfast though tend now to concentrate on writing for the stage. My book of dramatic monologues, "Untold Lives" was published last year and is now available on Amazon. My first novel, "And I Shall Be Healed" was published by Quickbeam Press in January 2014,
I live in Chichester and am available for teaching evenings and weekends only. Some weekdays may be available, by arrangement.

Rates:
Tutoring: 25 per hour evening / weekend. 30 per hour daytime
Proof-editing: 2 per page.

In addition to teaching I also offer a proof-reading service so for university essays / research proposals / writing projects, please do contact me for rates.

Teaching Experience:

I am not a qualified teacher but have 6 years private tutoring experience. Much of this was tutoring GCSE students in English Literature with some history and A'Level students.

In addition to this I hold a CELTA qualificatin and have taught English language at summer schools in Italy.

I hold a CRB.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim with students is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My role is not to replace the teaching they get at school but to compliment it so a tutoring session could concentrate on planning an essay the student has been asked to write or going through specific areas the student needs help with. I won't necessarily give homework - unless required - as I feel students have enough to do without me adding to their workload.

In return I expect my students to engage with the sessions. They don't have to like the subject and of course I'm there to help those who don't understand some things or just need a little help or encouragement, but the student must be prepared to be tutored.

Personal Description:
I am very patient in my approach and ensure that my students fully understand the topic.

It is vital to be a good listener as a tutor and to adapt your tutoring style and approach to the student, as everyone learns in different ways and what works for one may not work for another. Therefore my approach to teaching is to be flexible and to adapt my tutoring style according to what is best for each student.

Teaching Experience:

From my career history I showed that I have people skills, that I can work well with other people.

I taught Italian students aged between 12- 35 for one year while I was running my university degree.

I am Romanian mother tongue, I moved to Italy at the age of 19 to start university in Turin, and after I finished my BA in foreign languages German - English I moved to London. I was able to face many obstacles and manage to achieve my goals moving abroad (Italy, United Kingdom) .
Being a teacher means being a professional. My professional appearance will let the students know that I take the job seriously and that I am responsible.
Living in a new country United Kingdom, Italy, I am used to find myself in unexpected situations and to be flexible.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style.
I prefer focusing on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding. Where appropriate I set and mark work, giving students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.
I use questions and homework to check understanding continually.

I was born in Italy the land of the Art for excellence. Amazed by the Italian extraordinary masterpieces, I have discovered my innate passion for everything concerning Art & Culture. Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University last year where I studied for a BA in Classics. I am a quietly spoken and studious individual with a deep understanding of a wide variety of subjects. I enjoy music (playing the double bass, accordion, organ, piano and singing in the local choir) and languages (Latin, Greek, Finnish and French) as well as Maths and Science (I have A-levels in both). I went to Colchester Royal Grammar School between the ages of 11 and 18 and since graduating have worked in schools and other academic environments as a teaching assistant, researcher and tutor.

Teaching Experience:

Having received expert tuition myself at University, I am enthusiastic and knowledgeable about a variety of subjects which have stirred my interest since. I have previously tutored in Maths and taught Latin at schools and currently give piano lessons. I have studied Latin and Greek since the age of 12 and have been a musician for longer. For the past year I have worked as a teaching assistant in a Primary School and have engaged a large number of pupils in language, maths and music. I am experienced when it comes to entrance exams having myself taken the 11+ and I have worked through a variety of school entrance papers with students. I also gave support to primary pupils for the SATs.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an informal but structured and disciplined approach to studying and always try to engender a wider appreciation of a subject. I am flexible, able to travel and offer a comprehensive, well-qualified and experienced approach to an array of subjects.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge graduate and have been a qualified teacher of languages (French and German) and English as an Additional Language for four years, working in secondary schools in Harrow and St Albans. I enjoy working with all age groups from primary children to GCSE, A Level and degree level. I have also trained and worked as a translator specialising in business and financial translations, and continue to do so on a freelance basis.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at the University of Birmingham in 2009 and have been teaching for the last 4 years at secondary schools in Harrow and St Albans. I have taught French and German to all secondary age groups from years 7 to 13, including a number of GCSE and A Level groups. I have good knowledge of examination requirements, including GCSE controlled assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is tailored to the needs of the individual student. Generally, I try to create a balance between the different language skills such as writing and speaking, as well as including vocabulary and grammar work. With exam students in particular, I focus on the syllabus requirements including preparation for the controlled assessment tasks at GCSE and the A Level speaking exams. I also work on exam skills and techniques for listening, reading and memorisation. An important part of my work is boosting students' confident and making lessons enjoyable as well as productive.
I tutor from home or can travel to you, dependent on location.

Personal Description:
I am a Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) teacher at a mixed grammar school in North Kent. I am very passionate about French, Spanish and Italian, which I studied at university and thoroughly enjoy my job teaching these languages! Whilst at university, I spent an academic year living in the South-East of Spain, totally immersed in the language and culture of the amazing country, and giving me the opportunity to travel around it at weekends and during the holidays. I have since been to Cuba and Mexico, providing me with a greater insight, first-hand, into the Hispanic world. I have also enjoyed an academic year on the French speaking Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and spells in Chambery, France and Rome, Italy. In my free time I enjoy film, theatre, reading, running and socialising.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach in a grammar school where I also have a position as Specialism Leader, meaning that I organise language-orientated events and opportunities for our students and students from other schools in the borough as well as training for teachers. My training whilst studying to be a teacher was in a mixed state school and an all boys state school in Oxfordshire. I have been involved in teaching and assisting in the MFL classroom since my university years; teaching English in a secondary school in Spain and in a primary school in Guadeloupe. During my second year at university, I worked voluntarily as an MFL classroom assistant in a school in Surrey, for which I won a borough-wide award. I have also taught English to adults, and so, as you can see, have experience working with learners of all ages. In school, I teach my languages to all three Key Stages. My teaching at Key Stage 5 includes preparing students for the International Baccalaureate (IB)); I am therefore familiar with the present examination requirements in MFLs. As well as being an MFL teacher, I am TESOL qualified to teach English as a second/additional language and enjoyed working a number of summers and during other holidays at a private school in Berkshire for students from overseas.

Tutoring Approach:

Whether teaching a whole class or tutoring one-to-one, my approach to teaching and learning is enthusiastic, thorough and varied as well as professional. I really aim to support students in their learning and in how they go about learning as well as in their confidence in and enjoyment of the subject. I have worked with a number of students of different ages, in different languages and at different stages of their learning one-to-one and adapt my teaching styles, materials and exercises accordingly.

Personal Description:
I am a native English speaker. I enjoy my work as a private ESL/ESOL tutor and teach at my home or student's home/workplace. I can teach one to one or small groups.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified English tutor holding a Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
I have ten years experience teaching English in Further Education Colleges across Kent. I have also taught in English Summer Schools and accommodated students from abroad, in my own home, teaching them English and introducing them to English culture by taking them on excursions to places of interest in London and Kent.

Tutoring Approach:

During the first lesson I will assess my new student in order to place them at their correct level of English language acquisition. Thereafter, I can provide lessons appropriate to that level, taking into account their idividual learning needs and learning style.
I am very patient and aware of how it feels to be learning a foreign language as I have studied both German and Spanish as an adult. I like to ensure my students feel comfortable and at ease in their learning as I feel that they will progress more easily and quickly if they are confident that they will be encouraged and helped at all times along the way.

Personal Description:
A professional and experienced tutor, I've studied maths and physics at degree level. I've considerable experience of teaching in colleges, summer schools, within companies and in one-to-one sessions, with students of all ages and abilities. In addition to this, I spent over a decade delivery training to corporate professionals.

Teaching Experience:

I've worked with students of all ages from 5 to 75 and across a variety of subjects and levels. What I've enjoyed most is seeing the progress all my students have made, but particularly those with learning challenges - whether it's to do with subject knowledge, concentration or behaviour. I've found that infinite patience is often the answer!

Tutoring Approach:

Absolutely key to tutoring is flexibility and adaptability. Everybody is different and learns in different ways. Each session starts out with specific topics and goals in mind, but these can - and often do - change as the session progresses and other priorities come to light. My challenge is to find a way to achieve those goals that will suit the student, taking into account what they already know, and how they best absorb and retain new information.

And finally, although I'm not there to become the student's friend, it's nevertheless essential that I build a rapport with them quickly to foster a supportive yet friendly learning environment. This helps ensures the sessions are as productive as possible.
