Personal Description:
I am a graduate in English, German and Politics with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

I am fluent in German and well informed about German life and culture, having taught and studied in the German-speaking world (Upper Austria and Lower Saxony) for 9 years. I have a working knowledge of other major European languages and like to think of myself as an enthusiastic European with a keen interest in global affairs.

For the last 12 years I have been engaged on a university research and publishing project, based in London and Cambridge, that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce.

A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and curator of exhibitions on contemporary social and political cartoons. I co-edited the bilingual catalogue 'Coping with the Relations: Deutsch-britische Karikaturen von den Fünfziger bis zu den Neunziger Jahren', and co-authored the book 'Deutschland und seine Nachbarn: Briten, Franzosen, Niederländer und Polen blicken auf Deutschland'; both designed as educational resources.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students in English, German and Politics for the last 5 years, as well as working as a business language trainer in firms in the City and West End.

Previously I taught English, German and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language to trainee German teachers of English and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe patience, appropriate pace and empathetic attention to an individual's learning needs are essential for anyone helping others to understand often complex ideas and concepts. I also believe successful learning results from both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. These are principles that inform my role as a tutor.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is borne out by my own experience as a foreign-language learner.

Personal Description:
I come from Chile; I have a master's degree (Oxon) and I'm currently doing my DPhil in Modern Languages (Oxon) in subjects related to Latin American Cultural Studies and Gender Politics. My work experience has to do with language teaching, translation and research both in Chile and the UK. I did my undergraduate studies in Chile in English Linguistics which involved a comparative study of English and Spanish in subjects like grammar, semantics, pragmatics, socio and psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, discourse analysis and phonetics among others. I also have experience in academic writing skills and research project evaluation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a language trainer for different institutes in Chile, for adults and teenagers. I taught beginners (false and real beginners) and advanced learners. I worked in different levels: Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and university level. Classes were carried out for individuals, in-office lessons and groups. I have also carried out online and home tuition in the UK from GCSE level to advanced univerity levels as well as conversation sessions for people intending to take up jobs in Latin America.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I have myself experience the acquisition of a second language at university level, I understand the different problems learners may have, not only the linguistic barriers, but also those related to self-confidence. Personal Description:
I am someone who very much enjoys teaching and helping others to achieve their own personal best. It is very important to me that my students enjoy their lessons, continue improving in their ability and I am always happy to receive feedback on how the student feels throughout our work together.
As the mother of four grown children, the youngest being twenty years old, I am someone who is very empathetic towards young people and adults who need my help. Together with my teaching, I work as a volunteer for two charities; this has given me a great deal of experience at working with others, helping them to the best of my ability.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in a variety of schools, both State and Independent, have a great deal of experience at teaching English, preparing pupils for Common Entrance examinations and have co-ordinated English at Key Stages 3 and 4. I have also been in charge of co-ordinating PHSE and have been in charge of a Foundation Year for overseas students. Furthermore, I have a great deal of experience in teaching both able children and those who who have specific learning difficulties, helping them to grow in confidence and to realise that they can do well.
I have always been a popular and conscientious teacher and have helped many young people do very well in public and Common Entrance examinations, often helping them to achieve results they and their parents had only dreamed of. I am equally happy teaching young people and adults and I will endeavour to make any lessons I teach enjoyable and educational.

I have tutored for several years, and very much enjoy working in a one-to-one situation.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is a simple and effective one. I work out what a pupil needs and work hard to ensure that they achieve the right tuition to achieve their own personal best. I build up a good rapport with my students and have remained friends with many of my students and their parents since working with them. It is important that a student feels confident in their own ability and I always work hard to ensure that a student feels a great sense of achievement in what they do. My approach is enthusiastic, energetic and sympathetic, resulting in a good experience for those concerned who are working with me.

Personal Description:
I am a 31-year-old Italian mother tongue. I work as a freelance translator and interpreter, my work languages are Italian, English and Spanish. I am also teaching Italian to English speakers (grammar, advanced conversation, group and one-to-one classes).

Teaching Experience:

4yrs+ - groups and one-to-one tutoring. Mainly English speakers a different levels.
Teacher at FLC @ Exeter University
Cactus Language Teacher
Private tutor for individuals, uni students and groups.
Running a translation and interpreting small but thriving agency in London.

Tutoring Approach:

My strong linguistic background (Italian, Spanish, French, English and Japanese, which I am currently learning) makes me able to fully manage learning processes and techniques and adapt them to each student. My deep knowledge of my mother-tongue grammar and style lets me develop topics easily and focus on individuals' skills and tackle their learning problems. I believe in the approach focused on both grammar topics and listening/talking: a mix of both is always best. And a lot of practising, because memory and repeating always work well together. Sometimes I find myself offering a quick overview of the English grammar to students too: it helps consolidating their own language and helps them relating it to the one they are about to learn.

And of course: fun is a main part too!

Personal Description:
I am a bilingual (German/English) American living, working, and studying (PhD, King's College London) in the UK. I have 7 years' experience teaching English as a foreign language in Germany and Austria and now offer German tutoring as well, as I am fluent in German (I'm constantly mistaken for German in Austria!). Because I learned German as a second language, I have insights into it that a native speaker often will not have. These can help you to learn the language better.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English for a company called englishexpertise in Bonn, Germany. Our biggest client was Deutsche Post World Net, the parent company of DHL. Other clients included a German government ministry, Thyssen Krupp, and an IT company. I also gave English conversation classes at the University of Bonn.

I moved to Vienna in 2007 and taught English there with my own company. My biggest client was the City of Vienna, but I also taught for several language schools and other companies. I also acted as a linguistic consultant for a company that wished to design language tests and courses focusing on sociolinguistic competence, something very few people before have ever learned in a classroom. I bring these same insights to teaching German.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is very much that of a facilitator. I focus exactly on the areas students need, while trying to promote their understanding of the language, rather than memorization. I do this by filling in the cultural context. Students learn the language by stealth while using it to learn about and discuss things they like anyway -- as far as this is possible within the constraints of what they need to learn, of course. I believe learning should be fun; I learned German so quickly and easily because I enjoyed it and my teachers supported me.

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher all my professional life, although for ten years I worked in the theatre as an actor, fight director and singer. I love teaching and I love music. Most importantly, perhaps, I have never stopped learning!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English, French and German for 25 years. I studied English at Oxford; worked in Germany, studied in Spain and have my main home in France. My first GCSE Spanish class all achieved A* and A grades. I recently trained in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, so I feel up to date with current teaching methodology. Nevertheless, I adapt my teaching style and methods to benefit my tutees. I teach adult evening classes and give private tuition in French, Spanish, German and English Literacy.

Tutoring Approach:

I will come to your home and talk to you about what your learning requirements are and will tutor in order for you to maximise your potential in line with your requirements. All tutees have different learning styles and preferences, too, so I will pick up on yours and shape our lessons accordingly. We will work proactively, and there will be specific goals and targets for each lesson so that you will be able to chart your progress. My colleagues think I have a great sense of humour, and I have sometimes found it to be helpful in a teaching situation. I am, however, totally professional in the conduct of my lessons and tutorials.

Personal Description:
As part of my maths degree I followed a 'second string' in languages, enabling me to spend a year studying in France, which broadened my horizons and encouraged me to spend further periods living and working abroad. I have travelled extensively around Europe; I believe the best way to learn about another country and its culture is by experiencing it. My philosophy in life is to try anything once!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language in Turkey, Germany and China, including both group teaching and one-to-one tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring must be tailored to the specific needs of the learner, with regard both to the material which is to be covered and the style of the teaching. The key, above all, is to ensure that the tuition moves at the learner's own pace, enabling him/her to fully grasp each section of the material before moving on to the next.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Jessica and I am a recent graduate of Spanish from the University of Leeds. I am really passionate about learning languages and I am also have a good level in French and Catalan. I am most proficient in Spanish and as well as the 3 years of intensive study as part of my degree I have spent 2 years living in Spain where I learned a lot about the Spanish language and culture. While living in Spain, I not only achieved a good level of Spanish but also taught English as a Foreign language, gaining a lot of experience teaching a variety of levels and ages. I am interested in giving private tutoring sessions to anyone who wants to keep up their Spanish level during the school holidays or otherwise, and also people from non English speaking countries who would like to have English classes while in London!

Teaching Experience:

During my years living in Spain I worked as an English language assistant in various institutions, including a primary school, an adult technical college and a specialist language academy. I had responsibility for planning lessons and usually had full control of a classroom of students. I also had many private students of various ages, including teenagers and adults. This allowed me to experience teaching different levels and adapting to the needs of the individual students. I developed really good relationships with all of my students and I feel they all benefitted from my relaxed teaching style. I have had a few private students in Spanish while in London, though I feel that my experience of teaching English can be well applied to teaching Spanish too, particularly as I have received formal teaching in Spanish myself over many years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is relaxed and fun. I feel that it is important for the student to enjoy learning, especially in extra classes taken during their spare time which could be in danger of feeling like a chore! I like to have some variety in my classes but also feel it is important to cater to the individual student. I like to get to know the student so as to make sure they are getting the most out of the classes doing what they want or need to do, whether it is concentrating on grammar, conversation or games that can help build the vocabulary. Depending on the student, the classes can be more structured or more relaxed but I always want to try and make them enjoyable! I felt that this approach got a great response from my private students in the past. At the end of the day, I want the student to be happy!

Personal Description:
Hello everybody. My name is Vincenzo. I am 40 years old and I live in Leeds, in the North of England. My interests include reading, cycling, swimming and of course languages and meeting new people!

I am passionate about languages and foreign cultures and I look forward to helping you enjoy your studies and achieve your goals.

Teaching Experience:

I am a native Italian with both Italian and English teaching experience, at different levels, in both Italy and the UK.

After a couple of years teaching English in Italian secondary schools, I moved to the UK and since then I have worked mainly as an Italian lecturer in various colleges in West Yorkshire.

I did all my studies in Italy and I also qualified there as language teacher as well as special educational needs teacher and, when in the UK, had all my qualifications converted from the General Teaching Council for England. In fact, I was awarded the QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) in November 2004.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I have been in the UK, I have continued to keep up to date with new teaching innovations and methodologies in language teaching.

I am familiar with the use of IT and online teaching and I strongly believe in its effectiveness in languages.

I believe myself to have a professional and friendly attitude to teaching and convey this well to the students that I teach.

My dedication to language teaching is, and has always been, without doubt one of the driving forces of my career. I find the challenges of cultural exchanges stimulating and pleasurable.

My teaching approach is very much on encouraging you to use your language skills in life conversation. I believe that focusing on verbal communication skills quickly builds your confidence and your enjoyment of the new language.

Lessons can be structured to support a home study programme or I can develop an individual learning programme tailored on your own personal needs.

Personal Description:
I am a talkative and hard-working girl with a lot of passion for languages. As a native speaker it is a pleasure how people improve Spanish as I love to learn foreign languages and I think that is one of the most important things next to your degree to be succesful in your career.

Teaching Experience:

I did finish my University in 2013. I did my trainning during half year in a Private school as a music and English teacher and now I am currently language assistant in Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I like that my students lean by playing and enjoying the language and the culture I am from. I love using extra resources and games to improve the language and do role-playing to enjoy it as much as possible. However, It is also important to take some important aspects into account to make it work.
