| Personal Description: I am a native German speaker with experience in language teaching. I have a degree in English language and literature, Spanish literature and German as a foreign language (M.A. grade 1.3). I have been living in Edinburgh for more than 3 years, so I can also teach English as a foreign language. |
Teaching Experience: At the moment I am teaching German to adult learners. (groups of up to 16 learners) I worked as a self-employed languages teacher in Germany. I taught German as a foreign language to adults, mainly in a company in the automotive sector. In addition, I tutored school children between the ages of 7 and 17 in English and German. I also tutored a university student in English and prepared him for his exams. In 2000/2001 I worked as a foreign language assistant in secondary schools in Edinburgh. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that my classes are very enjoyable, as I love teaching and tutoring. At the same time I have experience in teaching different ages and levels and always take the wishes and needs of the learners into consideration. I think that it is important to be able to communicate in another language, so conversation plays an important role in my classes. I also include games and music. However, there is no way around learning some grammar, too....but even that can be fun. |

| Personal Description: I have just completed a Ph.D in German studies and take a keen interest in German literature and language. My undergraduate and postgraduate studies have involved extensive research within English literature and language and I am eager to teach within these fields as well. |
Teaching Experience: During my time as a Ph.D student I taught classes on German grammar and literature to those of a variety of abilities at the University of Edinburgh. This involved planning individual classes as well as longer courses involving aspects of my own research. In the past I have also taught English as a foreign language to children and adults. |

| Personal Description: I am a half- French student of Spanish and History at the University of Edinburgh. I am very approachable and I would like to be able to interest my students in the languages rather than just teaching them the words. I am fluent in French and English and I would love to introduce people to French and British culture while they learn. I have a very high level of Spanish and, although I have only ever been to Northern Spain, I lived in South America last year, travelling and working and I would hope to give a more complete education of Hispanic culture than just the Iberian peninsular. I enjoy teaching younger students but I have never experienced teaching adults, although I am keen to get started! I would hope to educate students in a very interactive way. I am sporty and enthusiastic about pretty much everything, I enjoy a good chat and love a debate but I am keen to learn about the different interests of people. I hope to travel throughout the world and visit as many cultures as I can, hopefully involving myself in NGO work that will allow me to do this. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked in summer schools for two years and I am about to complete a CELTA course that will allow me to teach English as a foreign language. In Peru I worked in a charitable organisation that aimed to give a basic level of education to street children in Cusco. |
Tutoring Approach: I would hope to establish a good tutor-student relationship so that the student could approach me with any difficulties they have in the learning of the language. I think it is important to speak as much as possible in the chosen language but I would make this more fun by incorporating songs, stories and cultural aspects into the tutorial. I would not expect the student to feel like they were in class at school but I would expect them to take the classes seriously and complete any work that is set following the class. |
