Personal Description:
I am 37 years old and qualified as a Teacher in 2006. I consider myself a friendly and approachable person and I like to take an interest in the people around me. I have lived in several Cities in the UK (North and South) and therefore have a diverse and dispersed group of friends. I have always enjoyed learning and working with young people as I enjoy seeing the spark, energy and potential they have. I am interested in Football and until recently played regularly.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher who has spent the last 8 years working successfully in Schools such as St Lukes Science and Sports College in Exeter, The Ridings High School in South Gloucestershire and St Josephs Catholic School in Slough and LVS Ascot. I have consistantly achieved good results with my pupils. I have designed hundreds of resources for my subject that enable students to work towards the criteria set down by exam boards at both GCSE and A' Level. I have extensive knowledge of the AQA course and exam technique for A2. I have been an Associate marker for Edexcel marking A' Level papers for GCE Economics. I am currently an examiner for AQA Economics specialising in the ECON 3 paper. This has given me an insight into how exam papers are marked and how students can be prepared for these papers.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to give a clear structure structure to work towards a qualification giving students clear instructions on exactly what they need to include in examinations or coursework. I look to build strong personal relationships with my pupils reinforcing confidence to attempt difficult task and changing my teaching to meet the learning needs of individuals. Personal Description:
New Bulletin, Tuesday October 28th

The new year is settling down nicely with all students progressing well or better! GCSE coursework, A level essay-writing, A level coursework, Oxford University HA Test, these are the issues on the table as I write, alongside helping with the usual content issues: Why did this happen? How did this lead to that? Why is this important? Why isn't this? What's happening here? What does it mean? The eternal questions for historians at all levels.

Above all - perhaps - it's the training of the student that's as important as anything. Getting them to see, to understand what taking an A level means, how an A level student needs to organize themselves. This is not about keeping your folder neat but how to organize yourself mentally, psychologically. How to approach the whole thing as if this is just a large project that needs to be managed carefully and well.

I am still available on weekend mornings and Tuesday late afternoon/early evening. If those times don't suit, just ask, tell me roughly where you are, and I'll see if I can fit you in.

Now to some duller stuff.

August 2014
Some very gratifying successes this August: 90%+ across 3 taken History exams w/ one student: C at AS Summer 2013: 6 ums marks off an A*, Summer 2014. WOW! This is what happens when student and tutor work in harmony, and when the student is really hungry to learn and improve. Also, AS ECONOMICS! My first AS level Economics teaching, taking on a student "who has given up" according to his teachers, on course for a U. We worked on one of the two modules for just 4 weeks: grade D achieved in the exam. This is what happens when the student trusts the tutor's optimism and follows advice.

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France and Russia. Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leapt forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
I am 25 years old. I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford, where I finished with a first, and studied for an MA at York in Post-war Recovery studies.

My main areas of interest are in philosophy, religious studies and development economics. In philosophy, I particularly find the philosophy of religion and ethics interesting. Regarding international development, I am particularly interested in the issue of peacebuilding.

Outside of studying, I am a keen sportsman and especially enjoy rugby, tennis and football. I love listening to music. I continue to enjoy reading, both fiction and academic works.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a personal tutor.

While at sixth form, I was a volunteer mentor on a mentoring program for young people. For those hoping to apply to Oxbridge, I am able to provide some personal feedback and advice about the application process, gleaned from my own experiences.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring focuses on developing discussions rather than providing lectures on topics. I think the key to succeeding in any area of study is developing a passion for the topic in hand, and this is what I will hope to help discover and develop in tutees.

Personal Description:
An ACCA qualified accountant having worked in the Commercial sector over the last 10 years. I have a friendly demeanor with a positive outlook to life. I'm keen to share my knowledge and experience with students with the hope that they will continue to enjoy learning throughout their lives.

Teaching Experience:

Over the last 2 years, I've provided Accounting/Finance and Economics tuition to many students who've gone on to excel in their studies.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a novel and fresh perspective to subjects which students may find dull and boring.

My strong communication skills combined with extensive subject matter knowledge makes it easy to explain concepts clearly. I use examples that are relevant to the student's life to increase understanding and always check with the student to make sure he/she understands me. I take care to explain things in different ways.

I approach the material in small, manageable units to allow the student to learn each concept and skill. I strongly believe in incorporating real-world examples into my teaching. Not only does this make the material more relevant and increase academic success, it also helps students engage critically with the world (and not merely able to reproduce what text books tell them).

A key role of tuition is to not only aid the understanding of students in the subject matter but to also improve general study skills and to approach the exams in the correct manner. I believe exam practice is key and hence work through past questions from the beginning to ensure students gain confidence and are comfortable with exams to help achieve success.

Finally, I challenge and motivate students to reach higher levels. Hence I always provide feedback and give very specific comments so that students can improve their work.

Personal Description:
Currently I am working as a full time tutor of Corporate Finance, management accounting, financial accounting and risk management from last 4 years. I am also having a contract with various agencies.

Currently studying ACCA, I also did Masters in International Finance from University of Glasgow and graduate in Economics. I have four years experience in Banking Sector, was working as a Relationship Manager managing credit risk and default. I have a very good understanding of business studies and Economics.

Teaching Experience:

As I am tutoring from last 4 years at Graduate level, that is why I find it very easy to teach someone.
Most of my students are from CASS, Westminster University, Queen Marry University, London School of Economics, Kings College London, University of London, Empire College, Greenwich College of Management and Nottingham University.

I am getting quite positive response from the students. They are happy with my knowledge and the way I teach. I have over 4 years experience in tutoring business studies in London and Glasgow.

I teach Corporate Finance, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Operations Management, International Banking and Finance to Graduates and Economics to Under graduate students. I can also teach basic statistics as well.

I was involved in tutoring since 1998 and till 2006 besides working in a bank.

Tutoring Approach:

As I am tutoring from last 3 years at Graduate level, so I find it very easy to teach someone.
Most of my students are from CASS, Westminster University, Queen Marry University, London School of Economics, Kings College London, University of London, Empire College, Greenwich College of Management and Nottingham University.

I am highly educated and I always prepare myself well so I can deliver the quality services to achieve the main goal of students. The success of a student is my success.

I always put all my effort to satisfy both ends. I love teaching. I teach the techniques, the ideas, and the base, so the students can have understanding. Sometime a student learn something from the books, and when examiner change the data, students always get confuse. It's my job to make students technical.

I want my student to question me all the time at the end of the session, if a student doesn't ask question, then I always ask questions to make sure that s/he getting what I am teaching.

Getting a good grade is an achievement for a student and for the teacher. However I will be more excited if my student get a strong base.

Being highly educated and practical I do not feel it hard to deliver the quality teaching to my students.

Personal Description:
I am an Economics graduate from Liverpool University and currently teach part-time in a good secondary school. I also tutor economics and business studies students and own two online businesses. Prior to teaching I worked in advertising for 10 years. I live in Bristol, am married with 3 young children and I am passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Economics and Business Studies in state schools for 9 years. I have taught both A Level and GCSE students. My students have consistently over-performed - for example over 75% of Economics students have achieved A*-B in every year I have taught. As well as teaching larger groups of students, I have also helped many on a one-to-one basis, providing significant added-value and a marked improvement in their performance. All students I tutored in 2014 improved at least one grade since I started working with them, with several improving by 3 or more grades. For example, one recent A2 Economics student went from a grade E in his January mock exam to an A* overall in June, whilst another A2 student went from a grade B to a grade A overall and achieved 100% on an AS resit paper. I am an experienced Economics examiner and am familiar with all the major exam boards. I can supply references on request and I have a current CRB.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always begin by discussing my tutee's individual requirements and areas of the syllabus they would like to focus on. Once these have been established, I usually start with a return to basics, teaching economic or business theory that may not have been fully understood by the student. Once they are comfortable with the concepts, I will look to build in higher order analytical and evaluation skills as well as providing real world examples. I will use a variety of teaching methods to stretch students, backed up with exam technique by practising past papers. I am happy to teach face to face for local students, however I often teach online via Skype, using a whiteboard facility, which my students can also access. This makes the sessions as interactive as meeting face to face and it also means I can tutor students who don't live in Bristol. I always encourage students to provide feedback so that they receive maximum benefit from their teaching.

Below are some testimonials from current and recent students:

"Matt only got an E grade in his February A2 mock exam and the school predicted he would get a C grade at A2. With the significant assistance from Ian, Matt achieved an A* at A2. In his other two A levels, Matt achieved Bs (he also had tutors for these). There are several reasons why Ian made the difference: 1.Being taught on Skype. Matt was initially very apprehensive about being taught on Skype rather than in person. But Skype proved really beneficial. Firstly it enabled Matt to fit in tuition at times that would just not have been possible if travel had been involved. Secondly it enabled Matt to have additional lessons when he had spare time. 2. Focussing on how to structure essay answers. The school just didn't put anywhere near enough emphasis on this crucial area. 3. Essay marking. A key aspect of A2 is exam practice. We paid Ian for essay marking which meant that Matt was effectively maximising his time with Ian. 4. Not accepting mediocrity. The school said that Matt should not retake his AS exams as he had a good B grade. Ian said he should retake as he could do better. 5. Providing positive encouragement. Matt has always lacked belief in himself and Ian gave Matt the confidence that he could achieve a good result.
We would strongly recommend Ian as an Economics tutor" Mr P - South Gloucestershire

"Ian is an incredible tutor, who can prepare you not only for the Economics lessons, but also for the A levels exam. Before came to him, I struggled to understand Economics and was predicted a C. However, Ian helped me to understand all the economic concepts and theories, using up to date examples and YouTube videos and I achieved a grade A at AS level. Half of the lessons I had were via Skype since I was abroad that time. That's why I would especially recommend Ian for those students, who don't have the opportunity to come to his home. On the whole Ian is a brilliant Economics teacher, who will definitely help you to succeed in the subject" Miss B - Bristol and Russia

"Ian is a friendly and helpful tutor. He is punctual for his lessons and flexible with his timings. My son retook his EC2 paper in January 2013 and secured 100% after getting tutored from Ian. This is an improvement from a grade B prior to Ian's tutoring. Ian helped my son tremendously in his exam technique and boosted my son's confidence in the subject and the ways to approach his exams. My son was able to achieve 100% only because of Ian's teaching and from his dedicated effort. I would easily recommend Ian to anyone needing a tutor." Mrs D - Swansea

"Ian started tutoring me in late September and since then my Economics results have improved and I achieved an A grade in my final A2 exams. I have found Ian a very helpful tutor who is more than willing to go through my questions. We go through essays and past paper questions which aid my understanding and confidence in Economics topics. Ian taught me online and I found that Skype was highly convenient in allowing me to not have to travel to Ian" Mr B - Chepstow

"I contacted Ian since I felt that I needed help in understanding the context and concepts involved. Ian style of working was particularly effective. He helped me to improve my understanding of the subject matter by logical explanation and by building from basic principles to a more sophisticated awareness of the subject. Ian was always very patient and sympathetic to my learning needs. He was well prepared for our sessions, and always set me work to do independently as well. As a result of Ian's support I feel that my capability in Economics increased significantly. When I started working with Ian I was achieving at around a grade C. As a result of Ian's support I achieved an overall grade B at AS, the actual grades for the 2 papers were an A and a B. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ian and would happily recommend Ian as a tutor for Economics. I will be continuing to have him as a tutor through my A2 course" Miss B - Redland, Bristol

"My son initially struggled with the subject gaining an E grade in his mock exams but with Ian's help he managed a grade B in his AS level and attained an A grade in both A2 papers. This was a huge improvement over the two years and I doubt it would have been possible without Ian's help, both with weekly tutoring and the all important pre exam revision days. Ian's approach was personalised and intensive and my son's needs we're concentrated upon fully. Ian was always punctual and organised and struck up a good relationship with the whole family. I would happily recommend him." Mrs W - Redland, Bristol

Over the past few years I have prepared many students successfully in Economics and business studies In AQA, Ed excel and OCR specifications. In any syllabus specification the theories are same,
Home visits are possible with in 15 miles from SM6 area and can consider other areas with prior negotiations.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the syllabus provided by the exam board, to teach each topic. Then I go through past papers, explain how to answer the questions. I expect students to do the papers at home and give to me for marking. I go through their answers and explain how to answer the questions. My teaching approach is, first I assess the student's current knowledge regarding the subject and thereafter I pitch accordingly. I use simple language and current examples in explaining the theories and concepts. Also I give and discuss past papers with the student and guide them in the correct method in answering a question. I give home work from selected past papers. I prepare a simplified handout for every lesson and this handout is the final reading material for the examination. Sometimes I dictate short notes during the lesson and my teaching sessions are interactive, where the students are encouraged to ask questions and express their current knowledge about the subject. At present there are number of satisfied students. I am unable to disclose their identities with out prior permission from them. My first lesson is free of charge. So that the student will have a chance to judge my approaches to teaching, subject knowledge, my mannerism etc.

Personal Description:
I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. This made me realise I enjoyed working with the people in their learning process, and college experience confirmed tutoring/teaching as a career choice. My subsequent one year PGCE has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for learners.

I have completed PGCE , a Masters and a BSc in Economics, level 5 Mathematics in Mechanics, numeracy level 1 & 2, Diploma in Computer Science & Application and I am a Certified Internet Webmaster Associate.

Teaching Experience:

I am teaching for last 5 years. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant over two years.I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

Personal Description:
My Name is Billy and i am currently studying for a BA in Politics and East European Studies at University College London. I am fresh out of school and still have all the vital knowledge and exam technique that is still relevent to todays GCSE and A-levels. I am friendly and willing to work with all abilities, i am very much looking forward to helping others maximize their potential and improving their final grade. I gained 6 A stars and 6 A grades at GCSE, while gaining 2 A and 2 B grades at A level.

Teaching Experience:

I have so far helped family and friends, to a great deal of success. Before this summers exams, i helped a friend turn around his predicted D in economics to a very high B (78%). I was active in my school, tutoring struggling GCSE french and maths students who were at a loss or alienated from teachers. Often, getting help from someone who has recently gone through the same exam is the most valuable tool to any student. I found older students to be far more useful than teachers, older student experience is what i aim to provide.

Tutoring Approach:

With public exams, its not what you know but how you know it. I will aim to provide hands on exam technique with the use of real past questions and examples, starting from the basic right through to the most difficult and nuanced problems. In this way i aim to add one grade higher grade at the very least to a tutees prediction.

Personal Description:
I am a Undergraduate student pursuing Economics. I have successfully completed my GCSEs ranging from all A*-B . I have recently completed my A-levels which also range from A*-B in History, Maths, Economics and Philosophy.

Currently I have started my own home business specialising in fashion retail after gaining my experience from working with a big fashion retailer for a year.

I am really enthusiastic about studies and strive for perfection in all the responsibilities which are handed to me. I enjoy working with young people and understand that organisation is key alongside adaptation to meet each tutees needs.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously worked in Emberhurst School based in Esher as a voluntary teachers assistant for 6 months and have worked with children of various ages. This has allowed me to understand the patience and the attitude needed to handle many suitations. This has grown my confidence in my ability to tutor and work with young people.

I have been involved in many roles such as a Peer Mediator in secondary school where I dealt with children in the age range of 10-12 in order to help them settle in. Additionally I have also taken on the role of a Student Ambassador where I communicated effectively with parents which helped me understand what they want for their children.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that tutoring requires for the tutor to have confidence in their tutee as well as understanding that no two flowers blossom the same way; neither do two children learn in the same way. Therefore I believe that one to one tutoring should always be tailored in order to understand the tutees strengths and weaknesses.

As a student I know what is required for exam success and want to boost anyone I can help, to achieve it. This will involve regular assignments and homework as practice is needed to develop the tutees skills.

Furthermore receiving regular feedback for parents as well as tutees is vital in order to keep track of progress as well as understanding what stage the tutee is on. I am available to work any time until September then September onwards I would be only offering weekend tutoring.

FEEDBACK RECEIVED:

Sarah (Primary Maths): "My daughter is really enjoying her maths tutoring & although me have only had two sessions so far it is all going very well.Sonali has a lovely calming manner & friendly personality which is just what I wanted.I feel I have found the right person to help my daughter progress in maths."

"Sonali is an excellent tutor. My daughter is very happy with her and so am I. She is the perfect tutor and I'm glad I made the right choice." (Petra, Year 4 Maths and English)

"Sonali, has been teaching our two son's whom are aged 7 and 9 for two weeks and they are really enjoying it. Sonali is a very pleasant young lady who has prepared her lessons well and has also prepared homework for boys. She takes a keen interest in which subjects they enjoy and which subjects they require improvement on." (Anita,Year 3 and 4 Maths and English)

Personal Description:
I am a second year undergraduate at the London School of Economics, where I am reading for a BSc in Economics. I attained 11 A*s at GCSE; a 98.2% average at AS-Level, scoring the highest grades in my year; 3 A*s at A-Level, where I achieved 100% in ten of the exams I sat; and a very high first class in my first year exams.

I attended Sutton Grammar School for Boys up until the final year, when I left to pursue private tuition as my full-time occupation, while studying for my A2 exams in my spare time. Following this, I founded Enspire Academy, a tech-inspired 11+ tuition academy that ensures the newest, most effective educational experience for its students.

Teaching others is something I have always enjoyed. Being part of a genuine improvement in a student's performance and confidence is a unique and gratifying opportunity, and I look forward to meeting and working with new students.

Awards:

- ifs Young Business Writer of the Year 2013: My article came 1st in the country
- Royal Economic Society Young Economist of the Year Competition: 3rd internationally out of 750 entries
- Harvard Prize: Highest grades in the year
- Young Enterprise Achiever of the Year 2012

- LAMDA Gold Public Speaking and Drama Award
- Jack Petchey Award for mentoring younger pupils and my general contributions to school life
- GCSE Prize & Business Prize

Teaching Experience:

I know what it takes to do well in exams and I really have been through it all: Common Entrance, the 11+, SATS, GCSEs, A-Levels, even University Admission Tests.

Over the past year I've taught over forty students, privately: from four-year-olds with Etonian aspirations, to A-Level students in need of additional coaching, to GCSE students who have fallen behind in class.

I have worked at the Wimbledon branch of NumberWorks'nWords for the past two years now. During my time there I have learned the importance of planning, lesson structure and how technology can be used to enhance a student's learning experience. I also teach Maths lessons at Shine Tutors, an 11+ specialist centre.

Tutoring Approach:

At the start of any session I try to glean what I can by asking students which areas exactly they're weakest in, what they want to work on, what their personal targets are, and then set them a range of problems (based on their curriculum when possible) to locate, more specifically, areas for improvement.

I often set personalised homeworks and mini-tests, to ensure my students have a solid understanding of the key concepts. Recently, I've begun using touch screen technology to engage more actively with my younger students, and I ensure all notes taken are contained neatly and securely in a revision booklet, for easy reference.
