| Personal Description: My name is Laura, I am 23 years of age. |
Teaching Experience: I have a variety of experiences with different types of learners. I originally began teaching as an Outdoor Instructor. During this job I instructed candidates in a multitude of adventurous activities, and also engaged learners through environmental education and geographical study such as river studies. I am currently completing a PGCE at Huddersfield University whereby I am teaching at Horsforth college in the Geography and Outdoor recreation department. I have various skills teaching Sport, Drama, Geography and Outdoor and Adventurous activites. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a fun, enthusiastic and friendly approach to teaching. I find I use my own experiences of teaching and try to recreate an atmopshere and relationship which I feel is successful for learning. I enjoy working with people and because of this I create an effective environment with a student. I am easy to relate to, which I think is most important when teaching. I will be able to motivate and help any student achieve their goals. |

| Personal Description: Hi! My name is Kasia and I am 22 years old. I am doing my third year at Liverpool Hope University studying Creative and Performing Arts. I come from Krakow in Poland. |
Teaching Experience: During my second year at university I worked as a tutor and translator for a Polish pupil at St Francis de Sales Catholic Junior School. My subject was mainly English but I also got involved in teaching all other primary subjects. In July 2008 and 2009 I ran drama workshops for teenagers at a Christian camp in Poland. |
Tutoring Approach: What I love about tutoring is that it means personal approach and direct communication. It is amazing as one actually gets to know their student and can pay them as much attention as possible. I believe it to be a mutual learning process. It is also a good opportunity for students to get motivated to gaining knowledge in specific subjects; we all tend to see things in a more positive way if we are approached as idividuals with absolutely unique talents and predispositions. |

| Personal Description: I am a final year BAhons English and Drama student about to graduate in July. Originally from Tyrone, I now live in Belfast and have easy access to and from most parts of Belfast. I'm an avid reader and enjoy acting and singing in various plays around the university. I aim to become a primary school teacher in the next 2 years, and then progressing to teach special educational needs. My experience working with children has taught me the importance of patience, communication, energy and commitment in my approach to them. |
Teaching Experience: 1. I did work experience in a primary 2 class for four weeks in my local town, Holy Trinity P.S. 2. I volunteered at Mitchell House special needs school outside Belfast for four weeks in second year of university as part of a Tutoring in Schools certified program. 3. I worked as an invigilator at St. Marys Convent Grammar in Magherafelt during the summer, supervising G.C.S.E/AS/A2 Level examinations, then preparing and sealing the papers to be marked. 4. I established a drama group with another colleague called Stagewise last August and since then have continued the weekend, Christmas and summer drama workshops for children aged 4 to 11. This involves facilitating drama games and exercises designed to improve their communication, confidence, imagination, collaboration and acting skills. Focus is generally on the children's process rather than product, as I take pride in seeing a shy, nervous child develop, although we put on a play at the end of each semester for parents to see how well the children have improved. This involves script writing, directing, producing, PR and other general organisation and financial administration. Other duties include liaising with parents, health and safety, and thinking of new and creative ways to take the workshops each week. 5. I currently volunteer at Fleming Fulton Special school on the Upper Malone 3 days a week, assisting in the classroom, shadowing the teacher, and on Mondays taking special needs drama workshops for a year 8 class, using games and improvisation exercises to help them cope with social, educational, communication, and reaction and reflexivity skills. |
Tutoring Approach: This is my first time as a tutor however, as an approach I would, systematically work through important elements of the students syllabus and establish problem areas of the work that they may struggle with. Iaim to keep the sessions as light-hearted as possible, as I've discovered through my experience that children tend to lose focus and attention if the teaching is too intense. My preferred method of teaching is that information is processed best through visual, aural and kinesthetic learning depending on each student's needs. I would adapt lesson and plans around each individual student and so will spend the first session getting to know the student and establishing a rapport with them. |

| Personal Description: As a professional actress, I have an extensive knowledge of a wide variety of texts. I was always a very strong English student and achieved straight As in all English Studies, Language and Literature through GCSE and A-Level. I then went on to the Oxford School of Drama where I gained a BA(Hons) in Professional Acting. This consisited largely of text work from the Greeks through to the present. A large part of my education was founded in poetry and I feel particularly confident teaching its comprehension and perception. I was awarded runner-up in the BBC Carleton Hobbs Award upon graduation for reading Shakespeare and poetry. Since graduation, I have worked largely on stage and radio, including work for the BBC and the Royal Shakespeare Company. I have a keen eye for English and a good grasp of tone, grammar and the voice of the writer. Although by no means fluent, I have A-level French and would be happy to conduct part of my lessons in French or help out those needing a little extra help with translation and conversation. Having just finished a six month run in the West End, I am currently available throughout the week and would be very happy to each in my home or to travel to others'. |
Teaching Experience: Although this would be my first tutoring position, I feel I have a wide variety of experience in other roles that make me a confident tutor. Whilst at school i ran all drama groups at an extra-curricular level including some children with dyslexia, dyspraxia and additional educational needs. I also taught year seven drama groups within the national curriculum. Through my A-Level studies and again at the Oxford School of Drama I participated in a mentor scheme, helping students lower in school through their work and supporting them pastorally, which I relished. This was always on a one-to-one basis which provided me with the ability to listen, adapt and personalise my mentoring. |
Tutoring Approach: I think tutoring can play a vital role in education. Whether it serves to further open an advanced student's mind and really push their strengths, to support those that need that little bit extra to boost their confidence and fulfill their potential, it should above all meet the personal demands of students that may not be realised in a classroom environment. I thoroughly enjoyed my education and find it so disheartening to speak to students who find school and school life difficult, when perhaps all they need is a little extra help to feel confident in their work and of course, themselves. I would aim to be clear, relaxed and friendly in all aspects of my work and seek to encourage those that need it to be positive and self-assured in theirs. |

| Personal Description: My name is Windson, I am originally from Singapore and I speak both English and Mandarin fluently. I have years of experience teaching in schools and performing in Musicals, Plays and TV. I am also a highly motivated and committed teacher who enjoys sharing my knowledge with my students. There is nothing more satisfying than watching my students improve and excel. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked extensively with ACTs of Life since 2003, teaching Speech and Drama at The Singapore American Club, The Asian Civilization Museum and Cambridge Child Development Centres all over Singapore. I also conduct Drama and Musical workshops to Primary and Secondary Schools. One of my students was recently seen on Disney Channel's Special on the High School Musical, and in the Singapore tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. |
Tutoring Approach: Personally I like to think of my lesson as more of a sharing session where I can share my knowledge. I like to conduct it in a friendly manner, without any of those Teacher-Student hierarchy. Thus, the students wouldn't feel intimidated to ask any questions or be afraid to make mistakes. To me, mistakes are beneficial as long as you learn from it. My aim is to encourage and cultivate the students' passion in the subject and bring out the best in them to the best of their abilities and merit. |

Tutoring Approach: I believe that drama isn't just about 'acting' but also provides an outlet for self expression, it develops imagination and artistic awareness; it increases social and mental freedom, fluency of speech, self respect, self confidence and above all... it's FUN! Drama gives students the opportunity to learn how to co-operate with others, aids orderly thinking and the ability to organise. The benefits do not only accrue through students participating actively in dramatic activity, they also learn through observing others. I will provide what we hope you will see as the perfect balance of education, play, and stimulation. I run to a carefully planned curriculum paying equal attention to ALL my student's needs in our group sessions. I am also committed to a two way communication process with parents to ensure that we have total understanding and support. I use practical explorations on how to make, perform and respond to drama. Our workshops encourage students with: Confidence Self Expression Team Working Skills Speaking and Listening Emotional Intelligence Community Involvement Development of Practical, Creative and Intellectual Skills Use The Student's Own Work As A Stimulus Understand The Importance Of The Process Cross Cirricular Links With Literacy |

| Personal Description: I graduated in 2009 from the University of Chester with a First Class BA (hons) degree in English. I also took two years of Drama during the degree. I am currently studying for an MA in Nineteenth Century Literature and Culture. I work as a freelance Youth Drama Practitioner, delivering workshops for various different companies around the Chester area. |
Teaching Experience: I have been working in Youth Arts for four years, having worked as an education assistant for the Chester Gateway Theatre and now as a freelance practitioner. In this job I both design and deliver workshops on a variety of different themes and direct Youth Theatre productions. I undertook a successful schools placement in 2008 teaching drama at a boys high school on the Wirral for five weeks. |
Tutoring Approach: As a first time tutor I value discussion of the topics with the student. I feel that talking through topics and issues in the subjects, especially in English and Drama, is vital to enable the student to develop a better understanding and even enjoyment in the subject. An approach that appears more laid back and informal can help the student to feel less pressured and more able to explore the subject. |

| Personal Description: Hi! My name's Ed, I just graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Classics, and I am now on a two year Professional Acting Course at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. |
Teaching Experience: Since graduating from university I've been involved in all sorts of areas, tutoring Oxbridge applicants as well as students at both school and university level. The work I've done with my tutees has varied widely; I've assisted some specifically in translating school or university texts; I've introduced others, who wished to explore beyond their prescribed syllabus, to new areas of literature; and with others I've worked on developing ways in which one might go about analyzing literature or indeed approach translating a given text. I've also taken up a part-time teaching post at Clifton College, which primarily involves coaching their prospective candidates for Oxford and Cambridge. During my time at university, too, I participated in a number of theatre tours that actively involved taking workshops and running classes in the schools and the universities at which we performed, venues ranging from M.I.T. in Boston, to state universities in Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia, right through to schools in Switzerland, France and Belgium. |
Tutoring Approach: I think it's impossible to pin down a sure-fire method of effective tutoring for any given person. People are different, and different methods work with different people. That said, I am a firm believer that you cannot simply speak at someone. Learning has to be an active process, and I think there has to be involvement from both sides for things to sink in. In this light, I do try to make things enjoyable and also to limit shortcuts; I'm of the view that it's far better to invest the time in getting firmly to grips with a subject, be it an instance of grammar or literary concept. In the long run that is a shortcut in itself. |

| Personal Description: My primary career is of a theatre director, directing new writing in London. I am also a drama teacher/facilitator at present for Helen O'Grady, Artis and Big Foot Drama Academies teaching primary school children voice, movement and improvisation skills. I'm about to start work for Theatre Tots teaching under 5's and I also run workshops for 15-18 young adults in drama. I am a very outgoing, positive person and give my full commitment to any job I undertake. My communication skills and personality thrive when in one to one situations as I am a great active listener offering advice whenever possible. My ability to work with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds is strong and I am most happy when with other people. |
Teaching Experience: As well as teaching primary children drama skills for Helen O'Grady, Artis, Big Foot and Theatre Tots I have experience running workshops for professional actors and young people aged 15-18 in drama. Most of my teaching jobs aim to boost confidence and communication skills in young people. My English teaching experience comes from the Oxford Academy where I taught KS1 and 2 English, English as a foreign language in South Korea for 6 weeks and also private English and drama tutoring in Berkeley, California with High School children. I currently tutor KS2 English, Maths, Science and History. |
Tutoring Approach: Making sure each pupil is given my full attention and support is imperative to me. If I am enthusiastic and keen to teach the subject matter then this usually rubs off on the pupil, who then wants to learn more. I have a laid back but positive teaching style that allows pupils to voice their own opinions, learn through mistakes and use their creative flair in both drama and English. The curriculum I teach is important to stick to but I make sure the material and subject is fully understood instead of learnt parrot fashion. My aim is to increase pupils' confidence, knowledge and experience of a given subject and most importantly to instill enthusiasm. |
