Personal Description:
I am currently a student at Bath university studying Sports and Coach education. I hope to go into teaching after university although i am currently unsure whether i want to do this at a primary or secondary school level. I am hoping a job in tutoring will not only give me an insight into what age group i would work permanently with but also give me valuable learning experience that will help me in the future.
I attained good grade levels all throughout my time at school and am currently on track for a high 2:1 for my degree.
I am a confident, lively, energetic and likable character. Due to my many hobbies and jobs, I have a diverse social network which has benefited me by enabling me to get along with anybody irrespective of background, age gender or culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have had many years experience working as a swimming teacher and have excellent references from all the swim schools i worked with. Through working as a swimming teacher i have been able to develop my delivery and listening skills as it is crucial that you have all the pupils attention at all times to minimise potential risks.
I have had one months experience working as a teaching assistant in a year 1 and year 6 class at a primary school which i found very rewarding. During this time i did one-to-one reading sessions with year one pupils and worked with the top maths table of both year 1 and 6 which involved over seeing their work and helping any pupils who were finding a task challenging. In addition, I have also set up an after school multi-sports club for a local primary school which I and a friend run on a Friday afternoon. This involves planning lessons suitable for the 15 pupils aged between 8-11 that attend this club, using suitable styles to maintain control and interest and above all make it fun so that they want to come again.
Finally I have served as a tutor to my younger sisters (currently aged 7 and 10) and to neighbours children (all between the ages of 5- 12). This has mostly involved assisting them with their Math, English and science homework.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to teaching is to try and make the task as enjoyable as possible, so I primarily adopt a friendly but firm approach. Any child will work harder at something that they find interesting. I like to create a stress free environment where the student feels able to ask any questions and voice their uncertainties. I assess the pupils strengths and weaknesses and am a strong supporter in using teaching aids such as analogies, mind mapping, etc to turn these weaknesses into strengths.
I endeavour to get the best out of any student and help them achieve their full potential and above all help them to develop the confidence to help themselves.
My years in sports teaching has meant I've adopted a teaching style requires input from both student and teacher. I will not simply 'spoon feed' a student the answers as i believe a guided approach is much more beneficial. It provides the pupil with confidence and skills that can be applied to many other aspects and expeirences in life.

Personal Description:
Maggie Hall worked for many years in admin and PA roles in both the private and public sectors before retraining as a Teacher of Speech and Drama and being awarded the Licentiate Teacher's Diploma of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, with Distinction.

She now works in private practice, teaching all aspects of speech, drama and communication skills, including presentation skills, public speaking, interview skills and voice coaching (including specialist voice awareness training for professional voice users such as teachers, lecturers and broadcast journalists), as well as the speaking of verse and prose and acting skills, including mime and improvisation.

Teaching Experience:

She has run several successful short Adult Education courses in both acting and public speaking and has taught Voice to adult drama students at the Academy of Creative Training in Brighton. She also runs audition coaching workshops and undertakes audition coaching sessions for individuals on a private consultation basis. Many of her students enter for the graded LAMDA examinations or the RADA Shakespeare Certificates and for the Speech and Drama section of the Worthing Music Festival. Maggie is a member of the Brighton and Hove Speakers' Club and has gained the Toastmasters International "Competent Toastmaster" award for public speaking and the "Competent Leader" Award.

Group Workshops (maximum number 20) in any of the above subjects can be arranged for business, clubs, societies, schools and other organisations. A schedule of fees is available on application. Some organisations which have used her services include:

The Academy of Creative Training, Brighton
The National Operatic and Dramatic Association
Patricia Edwards School of Speech and Drama, Worthing
BBC South News
University College Chichester (Department of Education)
Northbrook College, Worthing (Adult and Continuing Education Dept)
The Lamb Group
Cherrywood Investments (Stanmer House, Brighton)
Rayford Homes Ltd (Hove)

Maggie Hall is a member of the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama, The Association of LAMDA Teachers, the British Voice Association and Voice Care Network UK and is a VCNUK approved Voice Tutor. She has enhanced CRB clearance.

Tutoring Approach:

Private lessons take place at my home and may be for Speech and Drama, including coaching for LAMDA or RADA examinations and/or auditions, or for Communication Skills, including Voice/Speech, Public Speaking, etc.

My teaching is quite "hands on", which is why I cannot offer online tutoring. It is very important, especially with Voice, to be able to see and maybe even to touch the student (with the student's/parents permission) to understand how the student is producing his/her voice.

Lessons are structured in terms to correspond with the academic year, with a one week break for half term. The fee is payable at the beginning of each term (10 weeks) or half term (5 weeks) and lessons may be of either one hour or half an hour in duration and structured and paid for in either full terms (10 lessons) or half terms (5 lessons).

Students starting half way through the term will enrol for a half term only but may re-enrol the following term for a full term if desired. Any extra or ad hoc lessons will be charged individually at the normal hourly rate.

Shared lessons for friends or related students are available and will be charged a pro rata fee according to the number of students and length of lesson involved. Further details are available on request.

We have at least two workshops per term in a hired hall for examination students to practise adjusting their performance pieces to the larger space they will encounter at the examination session, which will take place in Haywards Heath. So far I have 100% exam success rate. This is because I never enter a student for an examination unless I am quite confident that he/she is able to pass it.

Personal Description:
Having always loved books, reading, and performing, I graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 degree in English Literature from the University of Hull (the first year of which was joint English and Drama). Having travelled around the world, I am now hoping to start my teacher training in September 2010, currently working as a supply teaching assistant in schools in and around Cardiff.

Teaching Experience:

As well as voluntary teaching in Belize and Sri Lanka, I recently returned from South Korea, where I lived for a year whilst teaching English as a foreign language to children from ages 2 to 15. I also tutored both adults and children on a one on one basis.
I also co-coordinated the Hay Literary Festival children's tent in 2009 with a friend, and have been asked to return this year. Lots of arts and crafts based around a different theme or book each day - making minibeasts out of recycling for our Very Hungry Caterpillar day was great fun!

Tutoring Approach:

It is difficult to learn if you do not feel comfortable expressing your ideas and opinions, or are bored by the subject matter. I aim to encourage tutees to gain confidence both in the texts they study and in their own ideas, be it an English poem or a monologue they must perform, in a warm and friendly environment with plenty of discussion and at a pace suited to them.
My time teaching in Korea has taught me that a sense of humour is vital in teaching, whilst still maintaining a sense of structure so important to a learning environment. For younger children, this is coupled with learning through creative means, craft, art and games, though how big an input this has can be adapted to the child and parents' individual needs.

I suggest an initial meeting between myself and a potential tutee (and any parents if relevant) prior to any actual teaching to discuss the anticipated outcome of tutoring sessions and to get a clear idea of what we expect from one another. This ensures that targets are set early on, giving the tutee realistic goals to work towards, and also that everyone involved is happy both with these targets and also with each other!
It is up to the individual whether or not they want to be given work in between sessions - whilst I do expect input, enthusiasm and commitment during tutorials, I am by no means a slave driver!

Personal Description:
I have always had a great love of learning and then passing on everything I have learned to others, one of the reasons I will be enrolling into a PGCE course next year.I have a genuine love of my subject which makes it easier for me to teach it as I can usually convince others that it isn't a dead subject and is actually highly important and central to current events. I graduated from QUB with a B.A in history July 08, I believe because I am closer to their age I find it easy to build a good relationship with those I am tutoring. History is my especial interest, both in modern and ancient periods and I spend much of my free time reading to increase my background knowledge of various periods of History, I am also currently studying for my fifth A-Level, in Geography. I prefer to tutor from my own home, but am more than willing to tutor online or visit the tutee's own home.

Teaching Experience:

For the past few years I have been tutoring friends of the family, and last year I tutored several 1st year university students. I have volunteered at both primary and secondary levels as a classroom assistant. I also worked at Larne Museum voluntarily.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in building a less rigid relationship with my pupils in order for them to feel more relaxed with me which I think is central to an effective learning environment. I will cover class assignments, further reading perhaps not covered in class, practice exam questions to which I will go over the answer in detail with the student. The pupil will be welcome to email during the week to ask for help or to answer any questions.

Personal Description:
Aside from teaching I am also a writer, a musician and a photographer. I enjoy keeping fit and learning about new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

Supply Teacher, Teaching Personnel, Cardiff & Bristol 2007-2008
Since September 2007 I have worked regularly for Teaching Personnel in schools across South East Wales and The Forest of Dean.
During this time I have served a long term post (1 month) exclusively as a Drama Teacher, have regularly supplied for English, and taken on general cover work as well.
My most recent attachment was with a behavioral unit attached to a Monmouthshire school and run jointly with social services.

Teacher, Oakdale Comprehensive, Oakdale, Blackwood 2005-2007
I was employed at Oakdale Comprehensive in Caerphilly County. I taught English across the age and ability range, from special needs year 7 classes to top set GCSE groups. I also taught drama as part of the Performing Arts Curriculum. In addition to teaching, I looked after a Year 7 Tutor group. I was also heavily involved in producing and participating in two School productions: Annie and Grease. This involved school trips to London and Cardiff, as well as lunch and after-school commitment.
Student Teacher, Cathays High, Cardiff - Jan 2005 - June 2005
I taught English across the curriculum with a specific focus on key stage three special needs. I specialized in using ICT and modern analogies to convey Shakespeare (Julius Caesar) to middle-set Year 9 pupils. In preparation for A-Level exams I taught revision classes on 'The Colour Purple.'
Student Teacher, Barry Comprhensive, Barry Oct 2004 - December 2005
During this first experience in a school one of the teachers took ill, and I volunteered to look after her form group. In addition to teaching English across the curriculum, and supporting an SEN teacher in a borderline secure-unit Special Needs class, I also participated in the School Musical, The Yellow Brick Road.

Tutoring Approach:

I consider myself to be an encouraging teacher. Though I believe in firm discipline, I also believe that I child with a healthy sense of self esteem (and boundaries) will find learning to be an enjoyable experience.

I have experienced learning in many different cultures and environments, and so have a good sense of the different expectations that parents and pupils may have from education and from each other. My job is to create a balance, to educate the child in the subject, and to also help them to understand the relevance of what they are learning in the wider world.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed my degree in Modern History and English. I studied at Wadham College, Oxford. I achieved First Class Honours. These results are reflective not only of excellent academic standards, but also and importantly of my love for my subjects, and of a dedicated and conscientious work ethic.

I am currently taking a 'year out', before pursuing further academic study. During this time I hope to pursue a mix of work, research, and travelling, learning a language along the way!

Teaching Experience:

Although I do not have any paid teaching experience, I have worked on a number of projects which necessitated taking responsibility for the education, support, or leadership of young people. These have included:

- Peer support leader within the APAUSE programme ('Added Power and Understanding in Sex Education') which offered sex education and empowerment lessons for younger teenagers.

- Co-director role in secondary level production of 'Les Miserables' with responsibility for over 100 children and teenagers aged between 11 and 18.

- Co-director role in community theatre production of 'West Side Story' with responsibility for working with approximately 50 children and teenagers.

- Assistant role for GCSE-level 'Speaking and Listening Days' which involved aiding teachers in helping students improve the quality of their English language GCSE assessed work.

- Worked with over 120 foreign children and teenagers whilst employed by a Cambridge-based language summer school as a programme coordinator and social leader.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about learning - specifically in my own fields of History and English, but also in my previous A-Level subjects, such as Drama and Theatre Studies.

I believe that when offered education through the right methods (which are not the same for each student), everyone is able to maximise their own ability to learn. The right approaches should allow everybody to benefit both as a student, but also as a person - through fulfilling their potential, and enjoying the experience.

My approach to tutoring would therefore combine an engagement with assessment objectives and the core subjects which must be covered to secure strong results in exams or coursework with working out the best ways for each individual student to learn, remember, and apply this knowledge.

Having just endured a gruelling few months of revision for Oxford Finals I am well aware of the plethora of tactics which can be employed both as revision methods but also as originary learning techniques. I would therefore bring a veritable 'arsenal' of modes of teaching and learning to any student, before discriminating between these to find the best way of learning for the individual. I would seek not to impose 'my way' of learning upon them, but to first spend time talking to them to assess the ways in which they feel that they learn best, before trying out these methods in relation to concrete subjects which have to be learnt.

I am, however, a great believer in learning through repetition and application. Rather than teaching vaste swathes of material in a single lesson, I would seek to establish clear lesson goals, and to review material learnt several times within each lesson, ensuring that the student feels comfortable with using the material learnt.

Personal Description:
I am a final year BAhons English and Drama student about to graduate in July. Originally from Tyrone, I now live in Belfast and have easy access to and from most parts of Belfast. I'm an avid reader and enjoy acting and singing in various plays around the university. I aim to become a primary school teacher in the next 2 years, and then progressing to teach special educational needs. My experience working with children has taught me the importance of patience, communication, energy and commitment in my approach to them.

Teaching Experience:

1. I did work experience in a primary 2 class for four weeks in my local town, Holy Trinity P.S.
2. I volunteered at Mitchell House special needs school outside Belfast for four weeks in second year of university as part of a Tutoring in Schools certified program.
3. I worked as an invigilator at St. Marys Convent Grammar in Magherafelt during the summer, supervising G.C.S.E/AS/A2 Level examinations, then preparing and sealing the papers to be marked.
4. I established a drama group with another colleague called Stagewise last August and since then have continued the weekend, Christmas and summer drama workshops for children aged 4 to 11. This involves facilitating drama games and exercises designed to improve their communication, confidence, imagination, collaboration and acting skills. Focus is generally on the children's process rather than product, as I take pride in seeing a shy, nervous child develop, although we put on a play at the end of each semester for parents to see how well the children have improved. This involves script writing, directing, producing, PR and other general organisation and financial administration. Other duties include liaising with parents, health and safety, and thinking of new and creative ways to take the workshops each week.
5. I currently volunteer at Fleming Fulton Special school on the Upper Malone 3 days a week, assisting in the classroom, shadowing the teacher, and on Mondays taking special needs drama workshops for a year 8 class, using games and improvisation exercises to help them cope with social, educational, communication, and reaction and reflexivity skills.

Tutoring Approach:

This is my first time as a tutor however, as an approach I would, systematically work through important elements of the students syllabus and establish problem areas of the work that they may struggle with. Iaim to keep the sessions as light-hearted as possible, as I've discovered through my experience that children tend to lose focus and attention if the teaching is too intense. My preferred method of teaching is that information is processed best through visual, aural and kinesthetic learning depending on each student's needs. I would adapt lesson and plans around each individual student and so will spend the first session getting to know the student and establishing a rapport with them.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2008, with a 2:1 in History. I am now studying towards a Masters in Social Work and Social Policy. I am 23 years old.

I work with children and young people on a daily basis, and on a voluntary basis at the weekends, through my involvement with the Scout Association.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in teaching History and English to Primary school children in the UK and in China. I was also employed by a group of parents to teach History to their children in a 'class' setting.

I also teach practical and educational skills through my role within the Scout Association on a weekly basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed approach as a person, which is reflected in my tutoring. I have a passion for seeing that children succeed in life, be it through education, socially or their hobbies. I have a high degree of patience, which helps to create a relaxing environment.

Verbal feedback and positive critisicm are two methods that I use.

I also understand that the needs of each and every child are different, so I have to 'build' and individual style/approach to fit with each child.

Personal Description:
I am a twenty year old student at Leeds University, currently on a deferred year, studying Philosophy and Theology. Once i have completed my degree in 2012 i will take another year to do a PGCE and then become a teacher. I already have a job lined up for when i finish university so i would like to take this time to become the best teacher possible. I believe that while tutoring children over this year they will in turn be helping me become a better teacher.

Teaching Experience:

Admittedly I have little teaching experience. I took part in schemes at my school during sixth form that meant i would tutor primary school and GCSE students, this ranged from homework help to helping read and write. I have also tutored a friends little brother during his GCSEs in Maths, English, RE and DRAMA.

Tutoring Approach:

I would say I am a fun tutor and believe that if learning is fun then the child is less likely to absorb the information. I also believe it is true to make things relevant to the individual, comparing a maths equation to a football wont help the child learn if he doesn't watch football, will only confuse him further.
However when it comes to work and to the completion of tasks I will only have a certain degree of leniency, because being strict is key if you wish to get the full capability out of somebody.

Personal Description:
I am an energetic person with a practical and methodical approach to learning. I am a firm believer that the student should be encouraged to expand their knowledge and experience within their chosen subjects in a safe and kinasthetic way. I am keen to work with learners who are passionate about their subject areas, or learners who need to find a way to become enthused by a subject that perhaps they have difficulty with.

Teaching Experience:

I have been freelancing as a Drama & Language specialist throughout the UK and aborad for over six years, with a principal focus on understanding Shakespeare and heightened text. I've written course structures and delivered a wide range of subjects to large, mixed-ability groups. I have experience working within SEN perameters and have am confident working with school refusers and low-abilty learners.

Tutoring Approach:

A professional approach is what I offer. I believe that while there is always a goal in mind, be it an exam or a piece of course work, there should always be a sense of discovery and fun about the learning process. I don't like learners to feel pressured to succeed, but more to understand why they need to improve on their skills and to want to achieve for themselves.

Personal Description:
I am a confident, enthusiastic newly qualified teacher and looking for an exciting opportunity to extend my experience. I am very friendly and dedicate myself to everything I commit myself to. I love teaching and the variety it brings. I am reliable, hardworking and trustworthy. My other interests and hobbies include a dedication to different types of fitness activities, socialising with my friends and family, reading, meeting new people and seeing new places.

Teaching Experience:

During my time of study, I successfully completed six extended teaching practices for a range of stages in the primary sector. I worked with pre-school through to primary seven and received many positive comments from teachers I worked with and my tutors from the university. I also welcomed feedback, which gave me indication of areas I could develop in my teaching to ensure the best learning experience possible for the children in my care. From my experience as a student and now as a probationer I also greatly appreciate the importance in keeping abreast with current literature and school policies. I understand that for me to continue to develop my practice and ensure I use appropriate and effective teaching strategies I must have a continued commitment to this. During the third and fourth year of my degree I undertook my specialist subject of Additional Support Needs, where theory was very much embraced and appreciated, mainly due to the fact the schools I had been placed in had less children who had such a difficulty. As part of my final year of study I completed a dissertation researching the effectiveness of drama as a stimulus for writing, with both drama and writing being an area of interest for me. The result of my study demonstrated higher attainment in those children who participated in the drama part of the lesson compared to those who did not, giving me reason to use this strategy throughout this current year when working on writing with my class.

During my probationary year in August I was responsible for the primary six class in my school. My class has a large proportion of boys (18:6), as well as three Enhanced Provision children in the mainstream setting for most curricular areas. The Enhanced Provision offers support for children in our council area who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, ADD and dyslexia, which has meant continued careful planning in my part to ensure they receive the learning at the level they can manage, but also getting the balance correct to ensure the more able children in my class are sufficiently challenged. I have done this through a great deal of active learning, which works well in compliance with a Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland.

Tutoring Approach:

I have not been a tutor before but I would apply the same dedication and focus to this as I do to teaching. I would ensure I am always sufficiently prepared and organised for any tutoring job I have and would adjust my teaching style according to the tutee's preferred learning style. I would not put pressure on any person I tutor and take them at their own pace to reach their goal, whether it be to prepared for an entry exam or to improve reading skills. My personality and teaching approach allows my pupils to feel comfortable and hopefully put in their best effort.
