Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Warwick University, achieving a 2:1 in English and Theatre Studies in 2005 and more recently, Wimbledon College of Art, achieveing a 2:1 in Costume Design. I live in South East London working as a tutor and free lance costume designer. I am passionate about the arts and education and try to combine the two in my approach to teaching as much as possible.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as private tutor for six years, working with a range of ages and subjects, both within agencies and independently. I specialise in english, history and theatre studies but have also taught maths, science, non verbal and verbal reasoning. I have particular knowledge of entrance exams to London Secondary schools and have additional experience working with children's drama groups and running arts workshops.

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience as a tutor I have learned that it is often a child's confidence that needs the most work. School environments are not suitable for all children and they may feel pressured or shy when surrounded by their peers. I try to re-enforce my position as a tutor rather than a teacher and look for innovative and fun ways to encourage my pupils to learn. I also read with all my pupils, regardless of the subject I am teaching. Everybody should have the oppurtunity to enjoy learning!

Personal Description:
I am a mature professional, originally from Yorkshire. I hold a current enhanced CRB check and have spent most of my life working with children and young people. Most of my work has involved teaching pupils with special educational needs. At present I work part-time as a teacher in a hospital school with students 5-19yrs. I am highly qualified in teaching. In addition to a Bachelor of Education degree with honours, I hold an MA in the Psychology of Education, and diplomas in the teaching of reading (literacy and literature) and in Counselling. I also have a certificate in TEFL My work with children has not been restricted to teaching - I have worked as a Youth and Community worker, as a Counsellor and as a Child Protection Officer. My hobbies include drama, dance and choral singing.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a teacher of infants but I have worked as a teacher of all ages and abilities. The majority of my teaching has involved pupils who experience a variety of special educational needs - social, emotional and behaviour difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, medical and mental health difficulties. I have also taught in secure accommodation. My teaching is effective - my work as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a large primary school in South London received a very good Ofsted report because the pupils with special educational needs made good progress - better progress than pupils in the school who did not have special needs! I am also on the Upper Pay Scale for teachers who have proved to government that their teaching interventions make a difference to pupil attainment.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a great deal of experience as a teacher of individuals and small groups in school and many years experience of private tutoring. My success comes from teaching each person, adult or child as a unique individual. I am popular with my students because I endeavour to make learning fun whilst retaining high expectations of effort and success, being patient, firm but fair. My fee reflects my knowledge, skill and experience. I integrate my tutoring with the tutees school syllabus and approach, increasing motivation with encouragement, challenge and the introduction of new knowledge in carefully paced steps. I begin with a thorough assessment of a student's strengths and weaknesses at my base where I have assessment materials for all ages. My fee is payable for this session when clients can examine my CRB check, qualifications and we can discuss mutual availability (times) and location.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University in 2008 with a BA in English Literature, and I have just finished training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

I am a keen writer of prose, poetry and comedy and whilst at Cambridge wrote and directed the prestigious Footlights Pantomime.

Teaching Experience:

During my gap year I spent some time as a special needs classroom assistant, working closely with a child suffering with Asperger's Syndrome. This involved facilitating the social and academic change between primary and secondary education on a one-to-one basis.

Also at this time I ran Welsh language games sessions for primary children in non-first-language schools to improve and encourage their use of the language outside of the classroom environment.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that often schools' approach to teaching can be quite formulaic and focuses more on ticking boxes towards exams, rather than providing a student with a deep understanding of a subject. This in turn can be quite frustrating for both students who are struggling to grasp a subject and those who appear to be flying through the work because in both cases the information and understanding seems only to reach a superficial level.

Therefore my approach to tutoring would be tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative approaches to the work, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

I am particularly interested in Shakespeare, poetry, drama and Dystopian Literature (especially the works of Margaret Atwood).

In London I can reach any areas by Tube or Bus in zones 1-9. For areas outside London I will drive to you. For areas further away petrol costs may need to be covered. Please contact me for further information.

Previous Students' Comments:

'Alex is a truly outstanding and gifted tutor as well as a fantastic person. I have very much enjoyed being her student for over six months, and have not only learnt a lot due to her expertise and impressive knowledge but also grew to love English Literature because of the inspirational nature of her tutoring. Previously, I used to constantly struggle with my assignments since English is not my first language, however, after a few weeks of sessions with Alex my grades and confidence significantly improved. She has an ability to keep the lessons varied and interesting; always well prepared for lessons - she was kind enough to provide me with extremely useful books and personal notes. Her incredible dedication and hard working nature also deserves mentioning as she was willing to help me even in the evenings when I was panicking about coursework and the approaching exams. With Alex's assistance and firm confidence in my ability I have achieved a high A in my A-level English Literature and even a merit award in Extended English. I would enthusiastically recommend Alex to anyone who wants to succeed in their exams and learn heaps of interesting information.

- Natasza Piasecka ' (Now studying at Durham University)

I am educated to Masters degree level and have taught in both comprehensive schools and special needs units. I believe in a child centred approach to learning and always aim to work for and with the student.

Teaching Experience:

I was Head of Drama in a school in Dorset for seventeen years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages. I have trained teachers and guided those new to the teaching profession successfully through the early stages of their careers in teaching. I have directed numerous school and examination productions which has given me an excellent knowledge of plays and productions for use with English and Drama teaching. I have taught adults GCSE Psychology with a very good success rate. I have enjoyed the opportunities teaching in both the comprehensive and adult sectors have given me and I hope to continue this type of tuition through a more individual and one to one basis.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is always to work with the needs of the student involved. I always listen to their requirements and tailor my teaching to what is needed. I value student interaction and would hope to use as much student based ideas and thoughts where this is possible. I have an attitude to teaching which always aims to enable the learner in a positive and supportive environment.
I have a good sense of humour, I am patient , a very good listener and an individual who works in a proactive manner. I create and work with a range of resources which are specific to the topic and area being studied and also create resources tailor made for the student involved. I use praise and positive areas continually as I believe we all like to receive positive thoughts about ourselves and this is a means to promoting a good and solid foundation to study techniques.

Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I also have a lot of experience with learning difficulties as I have helped my younger brother all his studying life through his asperger's and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

My inspiration to work in the arts always came from the books, films, artists and languages I studied at school and at university so I have a great amount of passion and interest in what I teach.

I believe this is very much the most important lesson for any new student to learn: a personal enjoyment and motivation for the subject. Exams are everywhere these days but it is important to remember that an exam is only a method for determining how much you know and if you can find yourself genuinely excited and eager to discuss what you know you are half-way to passing that exam.

Personal Description:
My qualifications include a BA in English Literature from Warwick University and an MA in American Literature from Sheffield University, as well as an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University. As well as tutoring, I run a proofreading and copy-editing business, working for academic and business clients, including fiction writers.

In 2010, I edited an anthology of creative writing. I am also working on my first novel, and my creative writing has been published online and in literary magazines.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a private tutor since 2009. I offer one-to-one classes in English language (EFL and native speakers), including IELTS, as well as in literature and creative writing. I can provide tutees with help to: understand the rules of grammar; improve their linguistic style; write essays or creative pieces; analyse literary texts; or prepare for an exam, piece of coursework or interview.

My rates are affordable and include block-booking discounts. I can teach any age-group, from children to adult learners. I have experience in helping students to prepare for exams, interviews and coursework, from GCSEs to the Oxbridge entrance interview and the IELTS exam.

I have a 100% success rate in helping students to pass the IELTS exam; I succeeded in helping a student to pass the Oxbridge English entrance interview; and I have recently enabled a GCSE student to improve his English Language grade from an E to an A*.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed but focussed approach to tutoring, believing that each individual should work at their own pace. I have a great love of the English language, and of its literature, and aim to pass that on to my tutees. I am happy to work with people wherever they feel comfortable, either at my home or theirs. I plan each lesson according to the individual student's needs. I have been described by my students as a kind and thoughtful teacher, and as reliable, punctual and pleasant.

Personal Description:
I have written for numerous publications, with stories and poems published regularly. I have co-edited several student newspapers.

I also perform live as a musician and actor. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years.

I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a private Tutor for 2 Years.

From Aug 2009 to May 2010 I was a Learning Support Assistant, DeBeauvoir School, Hackney, London.

Main duties included ensuring that students with learning difficulties are both kept up to speed with the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Other duties include:
- To provide full time academic and pastoral support to individual learners with learning difficulties, and/or behavioural and social problems.
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To encourage learners to pursue further academic or vocational education.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.

From July 2009 - August 2009 I was SEN Assistant at Kentish Town CE School, London

Main duties include ensuring that students with physical and/or cognitive complications are given the extra support they require within the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

From Jan 2009 to June 2009 I was a Cover Supervisor, Neat Education & Select Education, Sheffield

Responsibilities are that of a Supply Teacher, being responsible for the learning and conduct of a whole class of students. Maintaining discipline and focus as well as being at all times a strong leader and role model were essential at all times.

Other duties include:
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.
- To monitor attendance of learners and set appropriate targets.
- To invigilate examinations and mark work.

I worked in six different schools in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be acheived given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. More clinical apporaches to tutoring often leave the tutee cold and seperate from the learning process, a vital part of which I believe is engagement and interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate of the University of Oxford (Wadham College), where I studied for a Joint Honours degree in History and English. I achieved Double First Class Honours, and also gained the top results for my academic year. Such excellent results reflect my impeccable academic standards and my dedicated and conscientious work ethic, which I seek consistently to impart to all of my students. More importantly though, I believe that my exceptional results are clear proof of my absolute love for, knowledge of, and commitment to, my subjects. I love to learn, and relish each opportunity to help students to find a similar passion for their studies!

I am currently taking some time out to pursue internships and training opportunities before pursuing further academic study.

Teaching Experience:

For the last year, I have been working full-time in a state secondary school, as a Cover Supervisor. I was responsible for delivering lessons from all subjects, to students ranging from 11 - 16 years of age. Seeing up to 150 students in a day for all kinds of subjects had proved a challenging but rewarding experience - excellent teaching experience!

Over the past few years, I have also privately tutored several students, from a diverse age range, spanning from the very young to the much older. My tutoring experience has been concentrated across my subject specialisations of History and English (Lit. and Lang.). However, I also have experience in mentoring potential Oxbridge applicants, advising university peers and younger students on study and revision skills, and aiding examination preparation for 11+ students.

In addition to my employment as a Cover Supervisor and my private and individual tutoring experience, I have worked on a number of projects which necessitated taking responsibility for the education, support, or leadership of young people. These have included:

- Peer support leader within the APAUSE programme ('Added Power and Understanding in Sex Education') which offered sex education and empowerment lessons for younger teenagers.

- Co-director role in secondary level production of 'Les Miserables' with responsibility for over 100 children and teenagers aged between 11 and 18.

- Co-director role in community theatre production of 'West Side Story' with responsibility for working with approximately 50 children and teenagers.

- Assistant role for GCSE-level 'Speaking and Listening Days' which involved aiding teachers in helping students improve the quality of their English language GCSE assessed work.

- Working with and supervising over 120 foreign children and teenagers whilst employed by a Cambridge-based language summer school as a programme coordinator and social leader.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about learning - specifically in my own fields of History and English, but also in my previous A-Level subjects, such as Drama and Theatre Studies, and applied study skills and examination preparation.

I believe that when offered education through the right methods (which are absolutely not the same for each student!), everyone is able to maximise their own ability to learn. Finding the right approaches allows each individual to benefit enormously as a student, but also as a person - through fulfilling their intellectual and personal potential, and enjoying the experience, the individual student gains in confidence, self-motivation, and passion.

My approach to tutoring therefore seeks to combine an engagement with assessment objectives and the core subjects which must be covered to secure strong results in exams or coursework, with working out the best ways for each individual student to enjoy learning, remembering, and applying this knowledge.

Having endured a gruelling few months of revision for Oxford Finals I am well aware of the plethora of tactics which can be employed both as revision methods but also as originary learning techniques. I am therefore equipped with a veritable 'arsenal' of modes of teaching and learning, which I seek to discuss and try out with each student, before discriminating carefully between these in order to find the best techniques of learning for the individual. I consistently ensure that I do not to impose 'my way' of learning upon students - when meeting a new tutee, I initially spend time talking to them in order to assess the ways in which they feel that they learn best, before trying out these methods in relation to concrete subjects which have to be learnt.

I am, however, a great believer in learning through repetition and application. Rather than teaching vaste swathes of material in a single lesson, I seek always to establish clear lesson goals, and to review material learnt several times within each lesson, ensuring that the student feels comfortable with using the material learnt, rather than swamped by facts and lists!

Personal Description:
I am currently spending my time working in the NHS as an administrator and teaching withing a local Drama Academy. I am saving for an eventual Masters in Dramatherapy. I graduated last year from St Mary's University Twickenham with a 2:1 in Drama and Physical theatre. Before this I achieved 5 ALevels and 10 GCSE's at a high achieveing Grammar School.

Teaching Experience:

During University I taught at a Pupil Referral Unit and learnt to adapt my teaching methods to suit those who were more reluctant to learn. Since University I have volunteered at a local Primary School where I assisted in running the after school drama club. More recently I have gained a paid role at the Helen O'Grady Drama where I run four drama classes a week, promoting 'confidence through creativity'.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each individual learns in different ways, and as a tutor it is my job to find out which is the best way a student learns and to approach my tutoring using those techniques which best aid their learning. Personally I am a visual learner as I like to draw and see exactly how processes work. I think that one-to-one tutoring can often mean the difference between examination pass and fail.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic person. I have a 2:1 degree with honours in Drama & Film from The University of Manchester. My degree included both theoretical study and practical, including film making, writing and performance. The theoretical aspect of the course saw an in depth study of theatre text and performance; with specific concentration on Bertolt Brecht, documentary theatre, Shakespeare and Comedy.

At the end of my time at university I set up a successful comedy company and I have been working professionally with this company and also as a freelance writer, actor and comedian for the past 4 years, working in theatre, television and radio.

Teaching Experience:

I have run drama workshops with young people and my work as a writer involves a lot of team work and discussion. I am not trained as a teacher but I have all the passion and dedication to help you through your revision and coursework. I am optimistic and enthusiastic and perhaps I may be able to help you see the subject from a different angle and help break through the difficulties you may be having with a more traditional teaching system.

Tutoring Approach:

My studies of Psychology have taught me that everyone learns differently and remembers what they have learnt differently too. I believe to work out how you learn and what makes it interesting to you as an individual is a major part of how to maintain and add to that knowledge.

I would try to make the subject and material as interesting and relevant to the individual as possible and encourage questions and connections to other aspects of their lives and knowledge in order for the learning to be consistent and lasting.

In my experience the best marks in exams are achieved because the candidate knows about the subject enough to be able to apply it to various questions and scenarios. I would teach in a way that enabled the candidate to have confidence in their the exam or performance.

I am passionate about English, Language, Theatre and Film and approach learning and discussing of ideas with energy and optimism.

I have tried to keep my costs lower than usual for tutoring as I am aware of the current economic climate and feel that the joy of education and learning should not be dictated by income.

Personal Description:
I did an English degree at Cambridge, a PGCE at Nottingham, and then worked as an English and Drama teacher for 10 years, latterly as Head of Department. I have worked in educational and children's television since then, as a producer, director and writer. I have made over 500 programmes for broadcast on the BBC, Channel 4, and around the world, winning numerous educational awards in the UK and internationally.
I am married with two children.

Teaching Experience:

I taught in and near London, for four years in a grammar school and for six years in two different comprehensives, teaching English Language and Literature, and Drama.
My teaching experience more recently has been through creating television scripts, CD-ROMs and websites, especially helping young people to enjoy and learn maths. Supporting my daughter through her GCSEs and A levels has kept me very much in touch with students' needs, and working with my son has given me great insight into children with special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I help children, young people and adults learn through motivating them and building their confidence. I aim to make learning thorough, clear, enjoyable and inspirational; to make obscure things interesting, complex things simple, and dull things entertaining.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of St. Andrews in 2007 with a 2.i in Latin and Classical Studies and later took an MA from the Courtauld Institute in 2010. I currently live in Banbury and work with rare books and manuscripts in Oxford, and so am very happy to tutor in either place (or anywhere in between). I love to read and travel and have a particular interest in ecclesiastical architecture and Roman art. I am very happy working with little ones as well as adults and will try to respond to all tutoring queries within a day.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher and private tutor since leaving university in 2007. I have experience as a classroom teacher of Latin and English within a independent school environment; while at this school I also acted as mentor for students competing in creative writing competitions. I have also worked with several EFL students needing help with college coursework or practice using English grammar and syntax. I have directed and produced several plays in which students made up the majority of the cast and can help with understanding and analysation of dramatic texts as well as theatrical interpretation and techniques if required.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on understanding and meeting each student's individual needs. I understand that if a student needs a tutor, they probably lack the skills they need to complete the work on their own; this is why I don't simply focus on getting the student to the "right" answer, but also try to teach them the skills and processes which will enable them to eventually complete their coursework on their own. I am patient and willing to work at students' own individual pace. I am happy to provide lesson plans and progress reports to students and parents and at all times try to make tutoring an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Personal Description:
After gaining straight As and A*s at GCSE and A level, I studied at the University of Birmingham for three years where I came away with a BA Joint Honours degree in English Language and Drama and Theatre Arts. After spending a year learning a lot about the often difficult and gruelling process of getting a place in drama school, I moved to London to take up my place at the reputable East 15 Acting School, accredited by the University of Essex. After three years spent studying the noble art of Acting, I graduated in June 2011 and am now working as a professional actor. My interests obviously include theatre and film, along with photography, art design and crafts, and running my vintage china stall in Spitalfields market!

Teaching Experience:

Both my parents are teachers and I grew up spending all of my holiday time in and out of schools! As soon as I reached secondary school age I assisted in my mother's primary school, taking on board various teaching methods across all ages of the school. I started to run the drama club here for Key Stage 2, and later took on the responsibility of running the Key Stage 3 drama club when I was in Sixth Form. I have also worked frequently with the educational consultancy company Attainment Partnership, coaching pupils on presentational skills. I teach regularly at a primary school academy in London, taking pupils for drama and creative learning classes. My most recent tour involved taking workshops and shows into primary and middle schools, performing up to three times a day and working with pupils aged four to 13. All shows were curriculum based and involved working with large groups of sometimes difficult children to help reach their potential in performance.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that my experience assisting in primary schools from an early age, teamed with my time with Attainment Partnership has equipped me to work with a wide range of ages appropriately, allowing me to tailor my approach to the needs of the individual. Working intensively in schools over the past few months has given me the skill set needed to motivate and inspire pupils, and this job, together with my constant research has kept me well up to date with the ever-changing curriculum. As an actor I am able to communicate freely with pupils and just as importantly, listen to what they need and want. I enjoy my work and aim to impart not just my knowledge, but most importantly my passion, to my pupils.

Personal Description:
After gaining high grades in my A levels, I studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University for four years where I gained an 2:1 Degree in BA Primary Education with Special Needs as my specialism. with a BA Joint Here I also ran a Drama society and coach primary school children in this area. Following this, I worked as a schools worker for three years in several primary school, teaching religious education and taking assemblies and lunchtime groups. Finally after applying for various MA programmes, i moved to London in September to start an MA in Youth Ministry , which looks at the sociology of young people, and their culture as well as theology at Kings College London. My interests include theatre and film, along with music and religious studies. I love Drama and love working with Special Needs children also.

Teaching Experience:

From my teenage years, I have always assisted in schools, which then led me onto studying my degree in Primary Education. Here, i had several school placements and taught a wide range of primary school children, of all ages, a wide range of subjects including; English, Mathematics, Science, Drama, Art to name a few. Within my time studying my degree, i worked closely with Dyslexic children, putting together special English and Mathematics programmes for those that struggled and also ran a drama club for KS2. My drama experience expands further than this as i also took on responsibility of running the Key Stage 3 drama club when I was in Sixth Form. Additionally, i have worked for three years in Crewe as a schools worker, teaching primary aged children Religious Education specifically. However, i have also ran clubs for this aged children.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that my experience working in primary schools during my degree, teaching both one to one and whole class as well as my work as a schools worker, puts me in an excellent position to understand where children and young people are at, in order to give them the best one to one education and tutoring possible, to bring them up to the necessary level. I have also worked with both children and young people up to aged 18, out of school through children's clubs and youth work, and very recently, meaning i am up to date with , how society is at the moment , and my degree provides me with fresh prospective daily, as well as my MA giving me further understanding of young people. I believe each and every child and young person has great potential, it is just about unlocking it. Each individual is unique and different and I believe you just need to get to work out what is best for each child, so they can succeed greatly. I am passionate about children reaching their potential and hopefully put that across in a fun way in my teaching.

Personal Description:
I am an energetic, engaging and perceptive tutor. I relish the opportunity to spread my enthusiasm for my subjects, and to create a warm learning environment in which a tutee is made to feel expressive and at ease.

Having gained an A grade in Philosophy, English Literature and Film Studies at A Level, and English Language at AS, I studied English Literature, Film Studies and Drama at The University of Manchester. From here I went on to study at the London Film Academy where I graduated with a Distinction in Film Making; and then at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts - where I studied Directing. I have subsequently qualified to teach English as a foreign language (TFL accredited by the University of Kingston).

Outside of teaching, I am co-founder of imaginary friends, a young theatre production company with whom I have written, devised and directed theatre for various London venues. I am also very interested in history, politics and art. As such, I enjoy visiting galleries, sights of historical interest and museums. I keep up to date with current affairs, campaigns and movements, and I love to travel. I also sing and play guitar in a folk/rap ensemble and perform poetry at live events around the country. In 2011 I won the Huss-Smickler Prize for poetry.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored for a number of years now, and have taken much pleasure from seeing tutee's excel under my tuition. My experience as a tutor ranges from KS1 to degree level and I am eager to build a rapport with tutees of all ages and backgrounds. As well as the subjects mentioned above, I have taught Essay Writing Technique, History, Irish Dance and Guitar. I gained entrance to a selective grammar school at the age of eleven and so am confident in tutoring exam and interview technique to secondary school and University applicants.

As well as one to one tutorials, I have run drama workshops and dance classes for young people.

Other Relevant Experience

I find my experience as a Director to be highly complementary to my role as Tutor, as both roles entail clarity of thought and expression and a desire to see others shine. I have worked as an assistant to a Casting Director and as an Assistant Director.

I have also babysat many children, from infant to secondary school age, and have nannied for the Baylis-Duffield family whilst travelling with them to The Cayman Islands, Ireland and Thai Land. The Baylis-Duffields have two sons, Alfie (7) and Juno (4).

Tutoring Approach:

I once heard Tony Benn say that every child is a genius and it is up to their teacher to bring out that genius. I couldn't agree with this statement more and as a tutor I am committed to unlocking the potential that lies in every student. To do so I feel it is important to create bespoke lesson plans and learning strategies, taylored with care and imagination to the specific needs of each tutee.

Rather than supplying a pupil with answers, I will always encourage a pupil to achieve the satisfaction of finding it for themselves. This method is helpful in committing method as well as material to memory, and creates students who are confident in their understanding of what they are studying. It also helps me to understand the way in which a pupil thinks, so that I may present ideas in a way that is appealing and accesible to them; as well as identify gaps in their knowledge/undertanding.

I encourage 'joined-up-thinking' in my pupils with the aim of equipping them to analyse and improve their work independently, apply the skills they have acquired to other areas of study, and cultivate a genuine interest in their subject by realising its relevance to the world outside of the classroom.

I am rigorous and dynamic as a tutor and make every moment of a session matter.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced, energetic, amiable and fully accredited teacher and tutor. I have taught English and drama in schools both in England and abroad for 9 years. I have recently moved back to England from the Dominican Republic and will be starting teaching in the UK in September.
I will also begin studying towards a Masters in Educational Leadership and look forward to getting back to "hitting the books!"
I have a huge interest in Sport, Theatre and Music, and still play football regularly. I am married with 3 lovely children.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully taught English (up to GCSE level) and Drama (up to A Level) in a number of schools in the UK, including Maryhill High School in Stoke-on-Trent and Abbotsholme Independent School in Uttoxeter. I have also taught internationally, holding posts in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic at US accredited schools. This experience has given me a unique insight into international teaching and has enabled me to take the best that the US model of teaching has to offer. I have been a Department Head since 2007. I am also an examination marker and moderator for EDEXCEL in English and Drama.
In my 9 years of teaching, I have worked with students as young as two, all the way up to mature students at college. I have always achieved excellent results

Tutoring Approach:

I am extremely friendly, good natured and patient, but I also have extremely high standards when it comes behaviour. I believe in mutual respect and positive reinforcement. I love my job and have high energy levels, no matter what time of day it is!
Working 1-on-1 gives a teacher the option to tailor the learning to each individual student, and this is what I set out to do. I aim to find the learning strengths of each tutee and adapt my teaching accordingly.
