Personal Description:
I am 43 and an ex BBC Education Senior Producer where I was responsible for developing teaching and learning materials for TV, radio and the web. I have worked with schools, subject specialists, curriculum consultants and government departments responsible for education. My main projects were BBC Bitesize and the BBC Digital Curriculum, BBC JAM.

I have a undergraduate Honours degree from the University of Oxford and an MPhil Research degree from the University of Glasgow

Teaching Experience:

Before joining the BBC I was a Lecturer in English and Media at Stow College and a tutor in the Dept of English Literature at Glasgow University. Prior to that I taught in a number of Sixth-Form Colleges in London, including Davies, Laing & Dick, Campbell Harris, Ashbourne and Collingham.

Tutoring Approach:

Young people have many different reasons for needing extra tutoring. But they generally fall in one of two areas:

- need to catch up
- want to excel

The first step I take is to agree with the student what their goals are. Then we agree how we will collaborate to achieve this based on their learning style. This encourages the student to take responsibility, which means they are setting their own challenges and are more motivated. I will continually assess student's progress and monitor that against their targets, setting them realistic deadlines for all work.

I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre.

Teaching Experience:

From Feb 2009 - May 2009 I was SEN Assistant at Kentish Town CE School, London

Other duties include:
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.
- To monitor attendance of learners and set appropriate targets.

From Aug 2009 to Dec 2009 I was a Learning Support Assistant, DeBeauvoir School, Hackney, London.

Main duties included ensuring that students with learning difficulties are both kept up to speed with the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Other duties include:
- To provide full time academic and pastoral support to individual learners with learning difficulties, and/or behavioural and social problems.
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To encourage learners to pursue further academic or vocational education.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.
I have been working as a Tutor for 6 months. As of May 2009 I have 40+ Hours experience.

From Jan 2009 to Aug 2009 I was a Cover Supervisor, Neat Education & Select Education, Sheffield

Responsibilities are that of a Supply Teacher, being responsible for the learning and conduct of a whole class of students. Maintaining discipline and focus as well as being at all times a strong leader and role model were essential at all times.

I worked in six different schools in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be acheived given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. More clinical apporaches to tutoring often leave the tutee cold and seperate from the learning process, a vital part of which I believe is engagement and interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I've just finished Sixth Form completing the subjects English Literature, Psychology and Chemistry and I hope to attend University this september. Looking to tutor for something to add on my CV and as a part-time job, with my forte being English (predicted A grade for A-Level). All tutees welcome, with prices negotiable!

Teaching Experience:

No formal teaching experience but I have helped tutor friends, siblings and other groups of children from my Sixth form. Lots of experience working with kids - I ran a badminton club for the duration of my A-Level studies, so the environment is familiar to me.

Tutoring Approach:

I think with any subject, building blocks need to be worked upon by tutor, tutee and parents. This ensures a vast array of knowledge is covered over any particular subject. I'm new to tutoring but I intend to set regular ongoing homework, implementing resources such as flash cards, pop quizes and other techniques which i've adapted to ensure retainment of knowledge. Also learning syllabuses/marking criteria is essential, allowing me to best evolve the work of the tutee.

Personal Description:
I am a thirty-four year old male with a Ph.d in political philosophy (Sussex), a Master's degree in Ethics and Social Philsophy (Cardiff, distinction), and a BA in Drama with a scriptwriting specialisation (Exeter), and have taught undergraduate university courses and tutored masters level students in various subjects (references available on request). I am also a trained teacher (of English language to adults) and so have an understanding of different methodologies and their applications. I blend a results-driven focus with a desire to make any subject fun and interesting, as I passionately believe that learning is a life-long activity that should be enjoyed, not endured.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language in the UK and abroad (including in Uzbekistan and Istanbul) for several years. I have also taught subjects from basic literacy skills at pre-GCSE level to lecturing university lecturers on teaching methodology. I have been employed by Sussex University as an associate tutor during my Ph.d studies, and taught political philosophy there, while also tutoring individuals around the country up to Masters level in Drama, Philosophy, and generally in the construction of arguments, essays and study strategies.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in the communicative methodology, where students are encouraged to be active and assertive in their own learning, but believe that this should also be supplemented with old fashioned hard work; sometimes to pass exams you have to memorise lists! But the list will be easier to memorise if you understand what it means, are interested in the subject and care about your success in it; my overall strategy is, therefore, to try to give students a stake in their own studies, and then to enable them to develop.

Personal Description:
I have just graduated with a 2:i in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford and am about to begin work as a Teaching Assistant in a local school. I then hope to train as a teacher.

Given this, and my A-Level subjects, I can offer private tuition in Drama, English, History, Maths and Psychology. I am organised, committed and enthusiastic about all my subjects, and would love to share this interest with others in order to help them enjoy learning and increase their knowledge and understanding.

Teaching Experience:

For my final year project at university, I developed a handout designed to help children think about, and use, reading strategies. I then spent three weeks in a school working one-on-one with 11 and 12 year old readers, teaching them these strategies. As a result, the children' reading comprehension significantly improved. This taught me the importance of helping children to engage with reading and encouraging them to make the most of their abilities. I also gained an insight into the structure of the education system and the national curriculum.

Prior to this, I helped teach dance to children between the ages of four and nine, supporting the dance teacher by helping the children prepare for performances, encouraging those who were less confident, and liaising with parents. I also participated in buddy reading and maths schemes. The buddy reading scheme involved working with Year 7 children who were struggling with their reading, providing help, encouragement and a chance to practice reading. Meanwhile, on the buddy maths scheme I worked with small groups of Year 9 students who were sitting their Mathematics GCSE early and needed extra support. Part of my role in the schemes was to engage the children with learning in order to improve their understanding and enjoyment of Maths and English respectively. This developed my communication skills, as well as my patience and sensitivity with regards to others' learning processes.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I would tailor sessions to meet individual student's needs and interests. My approach would aim to increase their understanding of the subject in question, emphasising an enjoyment of learning. I would also focus on developing an interest in the subject being tutored and its links to other related areas. In order to best achieve this, I would create a relaxed yet structured environment, with interactive sessions to engage the student, encouraging them to think imaginatively and for themselves whilst also providing guidance. I would encourage each student to challenge themselves academically and to debate in order to improve both their examination technique and their wider academic development.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic teacher of English with an honours degree from Cambridge University in English Literature. The nature of the degree means that I am familiar with a wide range of authors and their work. Modules studied included: Medieval Literature (Chaucer etc), Shakespeare, Renaissance Poetry, Literature of the 1800s, Modernism, Contemporary Fiction (Post 1970), Tragedy.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in English and Drama from Cambridge University and currently teach English in a secondary school in North Wales. I teach the full range of students within the school from Year 7 to Year 13 and across all abilities. I have experience of teaching AQA and WJEC exam boards and am currently moving to the new syllabi in English. My classes this year have all performed well and I have a good value-added score at KS3. At KS4, almost all students have achieved at least their target grade in English, with many attaining a grade above.

This year, I have been teaching OCR A-Level English Literature. Texts studied included Poetry of John Donne and The Duchess of Malfi. I will also be teaching Othello from next year and have tutored on Dr Faustus.
I have also taught the new AQA specification with texts including The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, King Lear, Death of a Salesman and Oedipus Rex.

I also have experience of working with primary age children and children with additional needs.

Tutoring Approach:

As a qualified high school teacher, my attitude towards tutoring is similar to my attitude within the classroom; it is important to me that every student I teach enjoys the learning process. I aim to make each topic or text memorable and will adapt to individual learning styles. At KS4 and KS5, I am happy to tutor on specific texts, prepare for examination papers - including best ways to approach responding to questions and to set and mark practice essays.

Personal Description:
Hi! I'm currently an English Literature Undergraduate. I spent two years working, travelling around France and also living in Paris. In Paris I taught English as a foreign language. I have a lively teaching style, I find the best way to teach is to adapt myself to my students learning style.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored GCSE students whilst studying for my A Levels, English as a Foregin Language whilst living in Paris.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to find out how my student learns best, for instance in France my 4 year old charge had an obsession with Star Wars, so I used similar situations to teach him English! I am a very hard working English Literature student with a passion for books and theatre so I try to incorporate that into my teaching.
