Personal Description:
My passion is for the written word. I am a published poet and a writing enthusiast, so my main aim is to make English assessable for all. My hobbies include, as well as reading and writing, exotic mammals, art and theatre trips. Both of my parents make a living as artists and I have a very firm grasp of both classic and modern art.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring in one way or another since I left school in 2003. My degree is in English and Education Studies and I am a trained Aim Higher Mentor. I currently work in Learning Support at West Cheshire College, working mostly with dyslexic and autistic students. I have recently completed a course on teaching adult literacy. I have begun my level 2 in British Sign Language. I have a current Criminal Records Bureau check which I will present for your inspection and peace of mind. With all of my students I offer discounted rates for block bookings(10% off for blocks of 10 hours or more) but until February the first I am offering a larger discount (20% off for blocks of 10), though I do recommend a single lesson first, to make sure that I am right for the student. There is nothing worse than feeling locked in to a tutor who is not right for you.

Tutoring Approach:

I use the student's interests to enthuse them about the subject matter. With very young children, who are perhaps learning to read or write, I draw on my nursery and early years experience. As the students get older, they have more complex interests to be met. From the ages of 7 to 11 I find that a lot of the work I do with my students is comprehension based, though I do have students of this age who are more interested in poetry, and so this becomes the focus of their lessons. I have one student who is 14, and, while he struggles with his English, could make a promising scientist or mathematician, and so we look at his writing in relation to his interest in these areas.
With GCSE Drama I tent to work more on the essay writing side than reading lines, as this tends to be where my students struggle. However, I have spent much time in amateur dramatics and am confident running lines or script writing.
Again, with art the focus tends to be on the academic work that goes along side the creative. Certainly with GCSE Art students the actual art is often up to a very good standard, but they are falling behind because of the written work. With adult students though, the focus is generally on the art - the tendency with adult art students is often to be more interested in their work than a qualification. Art is one of the subjects where i find only three or four lessons are necessary for the student. Aas long as I get a report that they did well this makes me very happy.

Personal Description:
I am a University student looking to tutor part-time in Maths, English, Art, Drama and Entrance Exams up to GCSE level. I am able to work within Loughborough.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped my mother, who herself is a tutor, and have picked up methods and techniques for effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

During the first lesson, I will talk with the student, going through any available syllabus and discover any areas where the student isn't as strong. I will then use this as a basis to teach them what they don't know and practice anything where they are not as strong. I would use textbook questions and past and practice papers.
I will set homework at the end of every session, and we will then go over it together at the next lesson, correcting and explaining mistakes as well as recognizing the correct answers and approaches.

Personal Description:
Aside from teaching I am also a writer, a musician and a photographer. I enjoy keeping fit and learning about new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

Supply Teacher, Teaching Personnel, Cardiff & Bristol 2007-2008
Since September 2007 I have worked regularly for Teaching Personnel in schools across South East Wales and The Forest of Dean.
During this time I have served a long term post (1 month) exclusively as a Drama Teacher, have regularly supplied for English, and taken on general cover work as well.
My most recent attachment was with a behavioral unit attached to a Monmouthshire school and run jointly with social services.

Teacher, Oakdale Comprehensive, Oakdale, Blackwood 2005-2007
I was employed at Oakdale Comprehensive in Caerphilly County. I taught English across the age and ability range, from special needs year 7 classes to top set GCSE groups. I also taught drama as part of the Performing Arts Curriculum. In addition to teaching, I looked after a Year 7 Tutor group. I was also heavily involved in producing and participating in two School productions: Annie and Grease. This involved school trips to London and Cardiff, as well as lunch and after-school commitment.
Student Teacher, Cathays High, Cardiff - Jan 2005 - June 2005
I taught English across the curriculum with a specific focus on key stage three special needs. I specialized in using ICT and modern analogies to convey Shakespeare (Julius Caesar) to middle-set Year 9 pupils. In preparation for A-Level exams I taught revision classes on 'The Colour Purple.'
Student Teacher, Barry Comprhensive, Barry Oct 2004 - December 2005
During this first experience in a school one of the teachers took ill, and I volunteered to look after her form group. In addition to teaching English across the curriculum, and supporting an SEN teacher in a borderline secure-unit Special Needs class, I also participated in the School Musical, The Yellow Brick Road.

Tutoring Approach:

I consider myself to be an encouraging teacher. Though I believe in firm discipline, I also believe that I child with a healthy sense of self esteem (and boundaries) will find learning to be an enjoyable experience.

I have experienced learning in many different cultures and environments, and so have a good sense of the different expectations that parents and pupils may have from education and from each other. My job is to create a balance, to educate the child in the subject, and to also help them to understand the relevance of what they are learning in the wider world.

Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I also have a lot of experience with learning difficulties as I have helped my younger brother all his studying life through his asperger's and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

My inspiration to work in the arts always came from the books, films, artists and languages I studied at school and at university so I have a great amount of passion and interest in what I teach.

I believe this is very much the most important lesson for any new student to learn: a personal enjoyment and motivation for the subject. Exams are everywhere these days but it is important to remember that an exam is only a method for determining how much you know and if you can find yourself genuinely excited and eager to discuss what you know you are half-way to passing that exam.

I aim to be flexible and tailor my teaching to the needs and ability of the student whilst keeping the solid expectations and boundaries that, I believe, enables learners to make rapid progress.
I believe in encouragement, creative approaches and clear explanations - with lots and lots of patience! Most of all, I believe in the students.
Praise is very important; it enables students to feel pride in their achievements. I am always ready to give lots of praise to those achievements!

Personal Description:
I am currently a graduate student at Oxford having completed my undergraduate studies there last year. While I live in Oxford during term-time "home" is in Rome, Italy, where I grew up. I enjoy theatre and playing polo in my spare time.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive tutoring experience both in London and the surrounding area. I have also worked professionally as a translator and doing voice-overs for audio-books and foreign language textbooks. Given the nature of my course I am very familiar with what is required of a foreign language student studying either French or Italian at any level and can provide excellent assistance as I am fluent in both. I am also comfortable preparing students for GCSE, AS and A Level exams in other subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that the most important aspect of tutoring is to encourage an interest and keen appreciation for the subject. I am there to make learning as pleasant and as fun an experience as possible and to make sure that the student feels in command of the subject matter and confident to continue independently.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic teacher who likes to talk to and listen to my family, friends and students. I love reading and theatre, as you might expect from an English teacher! But I also love climbing, walking, sailing and swimming and watching all sorts of sports, especially rugby, american football, gymnastics and athletics.

I have two children who have just left home and I am looking forward to eventually moving to the West coast of Canada where I hope to find lots of interesting places to explore, and lots of interesting people to meet.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher who started out in secondary schools teaching English Language, English Literature and P.E. I came from a degree background in language development, but developed a special interest in basic literacy skills when I discovered that my son had learning difficulties. My most recent experience is with adult apprentices (16+), teaching Key Skills, I.T., literacy and numeracy. From 1995 to 2000 I taught English to francophone kids in Quebec, Canada, and from 2000 - 2004 I taught French to American kids in the USA, so I also have a lot of experience with middle school and youger age ranges as well as with adults. I taught ESL students, mainly teens and young adults, this summer.

Tutoring Approach:

My literacy students say I tend to focus especially on report writing and oral presentation, but I think I also like teaching basic stuff like sentence structure and punctuation. I don't find teaching English or French grammar is at all boring, but then my own children think I'm wierd so...

I am really into creating my own materials and I love to include drama in lessons, whether or not it's supposed to be a drama lesson! I believe in putting lessons into context and if I can think of an excuse to get my students up out of their chairs I will. This probably comes from my P.E. background - I used to play and coach both hockey and athletics and I must admit I miss it.

I am a great believer in life-long learning and I encourage my students to examine their own work and set their own goals. This doesn't mean I don't have my own expectations for my students, however. If there are specific standards to be met or tests to be passed, we both have to agree on realistic goals and work towards them. I have been known to tell a student to take things more slowly; on the other hand the words 'Just do it!' have been known to escape my lips....You get the picture.

I am currently working part-time (3 days a week) as an education consultant, so am available days and evenings during the week. Contact me if you have a particular request. Generally speaking I am available to tutor anywhere in Pembrokeshire, but would consider travelling further afield depending upon expenses.

Personal Description:
I am extremely passionate about working with Young People to encourage and enable them to achieve all that they want to and to reach their full potentials. I currently work as a voluntary Youth Worker at St Bridgets' and St Thomas' Church in Wavertree, Liverpool and run all the Youth Events/ Projects there. I enjoy working with Young People and find it very easy to communicate with people of all ages and from all backgrounds. I firmly believe that each Young Person is independent and it is therefore important to work to their individuality and find what is the best way to support them. I am very interested in Theatre and Performance however believe it is important and very useful to have a relatively strong educational background. Personally, I have a very strong and varied educational background and have experienced many different cultures.

Teaching Experience:

I spent 3 years between 2004-2007 tutoring several young girls of primary age in English Mathematics and Science regularly. I have also been teaching Drama for the past 6 years in Non-School setting both practically and theoretically however I am also very familiar with the School Syllabus for Drama and Theatre Studies. As well as having taught in a Non-School setting I have also worked in High Schools teaching design (mainly Set and Costume design as part of Drama) as well as PSHE. MY Experience extends to overseas as recently I spent 2 months teaching at an English-Speaking School in Colombo, Sri Lanka working with both Primary and Secondary Ages Mathematics and Drama.

Tutoring Approach:

As mentioned above I think it is important to tailor the tutoring experience to each Young Person as much as possible. I begin looking at the School and Home Work that the Young Person is doing (especially if the child is of Primary Age as it is often more School specific and dependant); therefore I will work with them on the work they already have, extending it and furthering it with either my own written work or if appropriate with purchased educational books etc. I like to ensure that the Young Person finds the environment comfortable and is open to sharing honestly with me as their tutor; therefore I will create times to be honest and talk, though this will not eat into their educational development. With younger children I will often use rewards to encourage them to try their best.
