Personal Description:
My personal and vocational interests are varied and range from gardening to international politics. I have a passion for reading and culture, making me informed and knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects. My weekends are spent walking my dog in the countryside, which helps me to collect my thoughts and allows me to appreciate life outside of the city in which I spend most of my life. While I currently work as a part-time teacher and journalist, I have held many positions of varying responsibility. Throughout these professional experiences, I have been engaged in some form of teaching or training and have taught a wide diversity of people in a range of subjects.

Teaching Experience:

Having been a gardener for many years, the first subject I taught was gardening and landscaping, which was for long-term unemployed people who were working on environmental regeneration projects. Since then, I have taught in various colleges and for many charities and training providers. My teaching qualification is in adult education, but I have experience working with young people, as well as excluded pupils and (ex-)offenders. My teaching has usually been in Media- or English-related subjects, but I have also taught Critical Thinking, Sociology and Film Studies, to name but a few.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim is to ensure that tutor and tutee respect each other and are able to talk to each other properly. While passing exams is important, creating a space in which ideas and thoughts can be shared is also necessary to assist with the learning process. Being a qualified teacher, I am able to assist you in your educational development. As a person, I am able to help you and ensure that you get more out of the experience than just a piece of paper.

Personal Description:
I am a 59 year old married man, with a wealth of teaching experience. I have a car and can travel to your home. Alternatively I can accommodate at my house.

Teaching Experience:

I have 33 years experience in teaching ICT, Mathematics and Business Studies at Secondary level in UK schools. I have also taught Citizenship at KS3. I retired from full-time teaching in 2004, but have recently returned to full-time teaching on a temporary basis. I have a current CRB (enhanced) date 27 October 2008.

Tutoring Approach:

The important thing about tutoring is to ensure the person is relaxed and able to learn. Its also about taking things in stages, building on knowledge, and developing confidence. This involves listening to the person and to understand where their difficulties are. Only then can strategies be developed to overcome these difficulties.

Personal Description:
I am 43 and an ex BBC Education Senior Producer where I was responsible for developing teaching and learning materials for TV, radio and the web. I have worked with schools, subject specialists, curriculum consultants and government departments responsible for education. My main projects were BBC Bitesize and the BBC Digital Curriculum, BBC JAM.

I have a undergraduate Honours degree from the University of Oxford and an MPhil Research degree from the University of Glasgow

Teaching Experience:

Before joining the BBC I was a Lecturer in English and Media at Stow College and a tutor in the Dept of English Literature at Glasgow University. Prior to that I taught in a number of Sixth-Form Colleges in London, including Davies, Laing & Dick, Campbell Harris, Ashbourne and Collingham.

Tutoring Approach:

Young people have many different reasons for needing extra tutoring. But they generally fall in one of two areas:

- need to catch up
- want to excel

The first step I take is to agree with the student what their goals are. Then we agree how we will collaborate to achieve this based on their learning style. This encourages the student to take responsibility, which means they are setting their own challenges and are more motivated. I will continually assess student's progress and monitor that against their targets, setting them realistic deadlines for all work.

Personal Description:
I have over six years of teaching experience and two years of tutoring privately. Most of my teaching experience has been gathered working with SEN pupils; Dyslexics and students with Dyscalculia in particular. To enable students to reach their full potential I understand that there is the need to be consistent, patient, creative and supportive when tutoring and this I endeavour to do on all tutoring occasions. Seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously hard to grasp brings me the greatest joy.

Teaching Experience:

2003-Present: Head of ICT & Maths Teacher, Mill Hill County High School, Oak Hill Campus (Specialist EBD school), East Barnet, London
2002 September-2003 October: Special Needs Teacher of ICT/Business, Brooke House Sixth Form College, Hackney, London.
January 2002-April 2002: Teacher of ICT/PSHE, Bridgeport High School, Jamaica
September 2000-November 2000: Greater Portmore Primary School, Jamaica

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in empowering my tutees to find and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers. Additionally, I prefer not to be overly intrusive but endeavour to guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. I understand that not all tutees are the same. I will personalise resources to meet each tutee's need.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching for seven years now, both in the United Kingdom and Canada. My approach to tutoring is a relaxed but focused one, tailoring to where a student may have a particular weakness, especially at secondary education level. I have a high success rate amongst students I have taught and tutored at A level, and am an expert examiner in two of my fields for national examination boards.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at secondary school and sixth form equivalents for six years, predominantly in city areas. My areas of specialism are the Humanities, notably History, Politics and Sociology. I have also worked extensively with students who speak English as a Second Language.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is a relaxed but focused one, and all work is catered to the individual student's target grade. I have a mature, academic attitude which is reflected in the results I have obtained amongst students and tutees during my career.

Personal Description:
I have over seven years experience tutoring privately. I particularly enjoy seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously inaccessible to that pupil and sharing the joy that is felt. Most of my teaching experience has been gathered working with SEN pupils and I am well aware of the need to be consistent, patient, creative and supportive when tutoring - all qualities that I possess in abundance.

Teaching Experience:

2004-Present: Head of English/History, Mill Hill County High School, Oak Hill Campus (Specialist EBD school), East Barnet London
2004 Jan-2004 Jul: teacher of English/SEN, Lea Valley High School, Enfield London. Specialist Sports College and mixed secondary school catering to over 1000 pupils, 45% of whom are statemented as having SEN.
Sep 2003-Jan 2004: Teacher of Geography/SEN, Wandle Valley EBD school, Carshalton Surrey
1999-2003: Teacher of History/English/Citizenship, Charlie Smith High School, Kingston Jamaica

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer not to be overly intrusive. I will guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. However, i do believe in encouraging pupils to learn at their own pace and within the constraints of their respective learning styles. I believe in empowering my tutees to 'discover' and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers.

Personal Description:
I am married with 2 grown-up children and a 4-year old granddaughter. My interests include reading (mainly crime and mystery novels), choral singing with a local choir and walking with our Labrador dog.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my degree in Classics I did a PGCE. I then taught English for 5 years at a secondary school in South London. I left teaching and joined the Post Office, where I trained as an accountant and took a number of IT training courses. For the last 5 years of my Post Office career I worked as an adult trainer in the project management field. In 2002 I took early retirement and, since then, have worked part-time as a Home Tutor with Caerphilly County Borough Council, teaching English and Maths to GCSE level as well as other subjects as necessary. Since 2003, I have been firstly an Examiner and, for the last 2 years, a Team Leader for Edexcel GCSE Citizenship Studies.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the learning process should be very much a joint endeavour. It is important to agree a set of objectives and timescales and to measure progress by regular testing and reviews. Lessons should be structured but relaxed and both teacher and pupil(s) should be prepared to work together to achieve the objectives.

Personal Description:
I am a recently qualified language teacher who has a flair and passion for modern languages. I believe its very important for children to have a knowledge of a modern language no matter how little. I am dedicated and reliable in everything I do and believe in using varied teaching techniques to aid learning. I am also very liberal and flexible in my teaching. I have taught in various schools as part of my PGCE as well as having tutored a 4year old, 16 year old, adult groups in business and even an 89 year old. I worked as a foreign language assistant in France in 2004 where I taught English.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed my PGCE in modern languages in June 2007 and through my training, I have taught in a variety of mainstream secondary and primary schools in both England and Northern Ireland. I am familiar with KS2/KS3/GCSE and A Level syllabus and I am willing to use these solely or incorporate them into my teaching. I have also one to one experience with pupils of all ages and also adults. In my teaching I have also taught GCSE Citizenship and currently teach 11-14 Spanish. I have excellent ICT skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that teaching in small groups/individually is the most effective way to learn. Obviously I will asses the students needs and plan accordingly but I am also willing to take requests of lesson content. I use a variety of resources and games to aid remembering grammar and vocabulary and also incorporate the four skills of languages (reading, writing, listening and speaking) into each of my lesson. Each lesson I teach is carefully planned out and flows in a way to capture the students attention at all times and prevent distractions or boredom.

I am a recent graduate with an extensive amount of experience of working with and instructing young people. I live with my girlfriend in Weybridge and am willing to travel to tutor. I have been an adult volunteer with the Air Cadets since 2002 and a Special Constable since 2004. I have recently tutored 11+, GCSE and ALevel students in maths, english and media studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have had several years of training Air Cadets in various topics with several methods of instruction depending on the subject and tutored several new Special Constables. I am also volunteering for Chance for Children Trust, facilitating arts based work for underachieving pupils in a secondary school in Ealing to help them with their learning skills.
