| Personal Description: I am a young (27) and enthusiastic fully qualified Teacher of Physics, located in West London. I have a flare and passion for science and am fully CRB (security) cleared for my current full-time teaching post. Coming from Ireland originally, I spent the last 8 years studying and working in the North East of England, before moving to London to take up a Head of Physics position. |
Teaching Experience: Having achieved a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Northumbria University, I undertook a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) course at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Since September 2006 I have been teaching combined Science to Key Stage 3 and Physics to GCSE and A-Level at a high performing specialist secondary school in Darlington, recently designated "Outstanding" in a recent (March '08) OFSTED inspection. My 2009 Physics results have been excellent, with a 100% pass rate at A-Level and 96% of students achieving A* - C at GCSE Physics. Since then I have moved to Ruislip, West London, to take up a Head of Physics position. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel an open approach to teaching and tutoring alike is most likely to make the subject accessible to students. My personal technique involves covering the scientific basics before moving on to further develop knowledge and understanding. In this way, students are eased gently into a routine of learning which will hopefully guide them to success in their upcoming assessments. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying Graduate Medicine at Imperial College London having previously graduated from Cardiff University with First Class BSc (Hons). My undergraduate degree is in Biomedical Science and Anatomy covering a wide range of sciences including physiology, genetics, cell biology, and specifically anatomical science. In addition to graduating with a BSc, I was awarded a prize for the best final year project in my subject. At University I am also the Chair of our class society committee representing my fellow students on education, welfare and social levels. Outside of studying, I like to explore what London has to offer... and sweat out the stress doing Bikram Yoga! |
Teaching Experience: I began to tutor whilst in secondary education, teaching basic reading and writing skills to those students with learning and behavioural difficulties. One student with ADHD presented a challenge - but I learned how to address student distraction and concentration by creating an interesting and enjoyable working environment. Throughout higher education I have supported students with various topics of science and biomedicine where assistance was most required. Having had lots of experience with applying to university and biomedical / medical degree courses and being on interview panels for medical school, I have become involved in assisting students in their university applications. Medical school is particularly competitive and I am able to offer help with finding the right work experience, writing personal statements and in practicing interview techniques. Being an active member of medical school, I have been involved in training basic life support skills and clinical skills to undergrad medical students. I am currently in the clinical part of my course and am therefore in the position to offer assistance with pre-clinical medicine particularly in the areas of Anatomy and Physiology. |
Tutoring Approach: Students need to take a positive approach to their study and accept responsibility for it. From the beginning, I encourage my students to direct their own learning and to develop their own study techniques. It is important to identify this from an early stage in order to deliver the information in a suitable way. I encourage the use of visual revision - mindmaps and diagrams help to instil information. Whilst it is important for students to develop 'out of the box' thinking, I believe it is important to remain focused on exam preparation through use of mock and past exam papers, synchronising exam technique with tuition. It is important for students to develop confidence in their subject from day one so that they not only learn the facts but are able to discuss and argue topics of interest. Through exploring the student's own subject interests I hope to help them develop that confidence. |

| Personal Description: Aged 23, I am currently studying Medicine at Imperial College on the graduate entry course. In 2009, I graduated from Cardiff University with a 1st Class Bsc (Hons) in Biochemistry, gaining a prize for the best final year biochemistry project. Outside the world of academia, I like to think of myself as a jolly chap and enjoy hobbies such as squash, photography and running. |
Teaching Experience: Having a 13 year old sister, I have spent a number of years tutoring her as she progresses through school. As both of us have mild dyslexia, I have developed and applied techniques both for my own and my sister's benefit, to make learning as effective as possible. |
Tutoring Approach: Having been tutored myself throughout in the years in a number of different styles, I approach tutoring with an open mind and would try to match the most appropriate learning techniques to the individual tutee. Methods that I have found particularly effective include mind-mapping and rather fun A0 paper summaries using chunky pens and any analogies/mnemonics/queues that may come to mind! Most of all, I would encourage the tutee to be proactive in developing his/her own styles of revision, aiming to help them achieve their potential throughout their academic career. Along side the sciences, I am also happy to offer advice on interview skills, based on my successful experiences in applying for biochemistry, medicine and an industrial placement at a leading Pharmaceutical company. |

| Personal Description: I am articulate, very positive, proactive, a well-structured hard-working person. I like any work that has to do with teaching and imparting of knowledge to another person especially the science related courses such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. I hold an B.Sc in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering(Newcastle University). |
Teaching Experience: I have taught physics, chemistry and mathematics in various secondary schools in Nigeria on contract basis for 8 years. I have also mentored thousands of students and secondary school teachers on the various practical exercises in physics and chemistry. I own a personal educational laboratory in Nigeria which is registered with the Federal Government of Nigeria where various schools regularly send their students to run practical sessions with me. Thus, I am very much used to teaching students from various backgrounds who come from various secondary schools and have often obtained brilliant positive indicators that show that I make the sciences very real and digestible even to the weakest students. |
Tutoring Approach: I like teaching the sciences (physics, chemistry and maths) and their practicals. If given notice of the client's need ahead of time, I can organize to carry out practical exercises with science equipment alongside the theoretical lessons. My gross expertise in combining the teaching of the sciences and their practical have always shown to yield distinguished results because in several regular instances, even the weakest students have been able to understand the sciences with ease (please note that due to cost of procuring science equipment, practicals may require additional charge). Note: Due to health and safety regulations, I can only accept to carry out physics practical at the clients homes. I like following up the syllabus provided, making my lessons interactive and participatory and regularly test the understanding of my student with past examination question papers. |

| Personal Description: Experienced personable General teaching council registered Principal teacher. Currently working in Scotland in a large mixed ability school. I have enhanced police disclosure which is current. |
Teaching Experience: Many years experience on both a one to one and whole class teaching. Particular interests include the use of technology and ICT in education and formative assessment. I have other teaching-related post graduate qualifications as well as my subject and teaching qualifications. |
Tutoring Approach: An approach based on active learning and problem solving to develop a deeper understanding and analytical skills base. Whilst many tutors currently advertising have degree qualifications, I believe that a teaching qualification is important as a tutor needs to be particularly skilled in helping students to understand difficult or problematic areas of a course where subject knowledge alone is not enough to help them bridge the understanding gap. Here, teaching experience is as important as subject knowledge. I am registered and qualified to teach the subjects I also tutor. |

| Personal Description: Fun, friendly, dedicated professional female! I am currently working at Sky Television in Osterley, and I am a Research Engineer. I am 31 years old and have been educated upto Masters level. I love reading (anything from the Classics to modern teen fiction), theatre, movies (again, anything from old classics to modern futuristic to chick flicks). I have a relaxed, yet conscientious manner and pride myself on being able to relate to just about anyone I meet and making them feel comfortable, positive and confident. |
Teaching Experience: Most recently I have taken part in voluntary tutoring at local schools through a scheme at work. In earlier years I have tutored students ranging from 11+ to University, however now due to time constraints I would need to set my cut off at GCSE students. I have tutored in the following subjects: English Lit & Language (GCSE), Maths (11+, GCSE, A Levels and Batchelors), Physics (11+, GCSE), Combined Science (GCSE). My students have ranged from re-takes to going for the exams the first time round, and I am extremely proud of my success rate - all my GCSE students have achieved a grade C or above for the tutored subject and their final grade achieved has always been at least one grade higher than when they started the tutoring. |
Tutoring Approach: Group tuition is also available (20ph for 1 student, then 35ph for 2 students, 45ph for 3 students etc for GCSE standard sessions). I set achievable, realistic goals depending on the student's capability however I am a strong believer that there are no limits to what you can achieve should you apply yourself and have a little confidence! The first thing I would do is set you a little test in order for me to able to assess your current level, and to figure out what we need to do to get you to where you want to be. we will work together step by step to achieve our joint goal :). I believe that there are many ways in which a student can learn and overcome their difficulties - I will find the right way for you! Learning should inspire you and make you feel more comfortable about setting out into the world. Once we have an arrangement, I am contactable out of hours, within reason! e.g. on the phone for any last minute problems and panics. I am also flexible and can do more or less lessons in a particular week, to suit the student. |

| Personal Description: I am 27 years old and originally from Glasgow but now living in the borders... I have an Honours degree in Immunology and Pharmacology from the University of Strathclyde, and i worked for 3 years as a pre-clinical pharmacologist in a pharmaceutical company in Edinburgh before training to become a teacher. I also worked for 18 months as an English tutor in Japan, which allowed me to see some of the world!! |
Teaching Experience: PGDE(S) University of Strathclyde, Jordanhill Campus, Glasgow, 2005-2006 Whilst at Jordanhill i completed 2 8 weeks placements - in Knightswood Secondary school in Glasgow, and in Hermitage Scademy in Helensburgh. I completed my probationary year at Hillhead High in Glasgow, and am now permanently teaching in The Berwickshire High School in Duns |
Tutoring Approach: I generally use formative approaches to learning, covering main points or areas of difficulty in detail, then using motivational techniques such as quizzes, short answer questions and revision plans to reinforce knowledge and encourage independent learning and study. Study techniques are varied, constructing mind maps, bullet point, or diagramatic forms, whichever method best suits the child and enables them to retain and understand information. I also encourage problem solving practice - ensuring pupils are confident at tackling any graphs or calculations that they may encounter. |

| Personal Description: My family background had a great influence on my decision to become a teacher as my mother is a primary school teacher and my father is clerk in a school. However the real motivation came when I first join the Paramhansh Primary School as a Science teacher. Here I got chance to experience about working closely with children and what it likes to teach young minds. Also my own ability to learn something new quickly has helped me to become a teacher. |
Teaching Experience: June 2006 to November 2007 Shree Rajeshwary Secondary School, Surat, India Teacher of Science - Head of the Science Department. At Shree Rajeshwary Secondary School, I was a science teacher for Class X which was class of 92 students. I was also responsible for teaching science Class VIII and IX students. As a class teacher my main duties involved managing attendance records, checking individual pupil's study progress, checking exam supplements and preparing exam results. Shree Rajeshwary Secondary School is very diverse institution where people from different background and religion were involved in both teaching and being taught. The school has strict student's behavioural policy. The school also had annual agenda for personal developments for students and teachers. My other responsibility includes managing science projects, poster preparations and conducting debates and cultural activities. June 2004 to July 2005 Paramhansh Primary School, Surat, India Teacher of Science & Mathematics - For STD VI & VII At Paramhansh Primary School I was Class teacher for Class VI of 120 students. I was responsible for teaching Science and Mathematics to Class VI and VII with usual duties of class teacher such as taking class attendance, tracking progress of individual students etc. I was also involved in other extra circular activities for students such as organising sports events, funfair, organising picnic etc. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to personal tuition encompasses different strategies, but above all I aim to provide pupils with a tailored programme that is best suited to individual's needs. |

| Personal Description: I am married and have a 2 year old son, we have recently relocated to Chester. I have a PGCE in Science, a Degree in Environmental Science, and A-Levels in Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I have 10 years teaching experience, have worked as a Head of Subject for 6 years, and have led my Faculty in coursework moderation. I have also been learning Spanish at a night class, so I can still remember what it is like to be a student. |
Teaching Experience: I have 10 years teaching experience, and have taught Years 7 to 13 (with the bulk of my teaching in Years 12 and 13). I have also tutored a number of other students through A-Levels and GCSEs. I have recently relocated to Chester, but prior to this I worked in 2 schools in Essex, where I became Head of Biology. I have been successfully through two OFSTED inspections, and have been a mentor to a number of trainee teachers. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to make links between Science and modern culture. Many aspects of Science make it into films and the media, and these provide focal points for discussions (whether the Science is correct or not!). I believe that this makes the content more applicable and memorable. As a practicing teacher, I have a good knowledge of the Science curriculum, and am also aware of misconceptions shown by many students. I try to address these areas, in addition to the areas requested by the tutee. I like to use Powerpoint presentations during tutoring. These Powerpoints are linked to the National Curriculum and offer visual stimuli and multimedia resources. |
