Personal Description:
My name is Sam and I am a 23 year old with a first class masters degree in physics from the University of Southampton. I will be starting a PhD in nuclear fusion in October and thoroughly enjoy learning about maths and science and find tutoring a very rewarding experience. My asking fees are negotiable.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring just after finishing my GCSE's. I taught students GCSE maths and science on a weekly basis over a period of two years while at 6th form. While being at University I have carried on tutoring teaching students A level and GCSE physics and maths on a weekly basis. I have a lot of experience in dealing with students of various abilities and always try and find something interesting about the subject that will appeal to my student so they have more motivation and desire to learn.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to solve a maths problem is to work through a general method. When teaching maths, I break this method down into small, simple steps and teach each part of it individually. Once I have worked through the method with the pupil and made sure they understand it I will then set some questions either from their text book/past exam papers. As the student progresses through the questions and gains confidence with the method I will cut down on the amount of hints I provide to show the student that they can do the problems by themselves. Having said this I will provide the student with all the encouragement and help they need. With maths repetition is key and so I believe setting questions for the student to do in the next couple of days by themselves is essential. It allows me to see if the student has fully understood what we covered in the previous session and is a brilliant way to improve the students confidence in their own self ability.

With science I take a part of the syllabus at a time and work through it slowly. Science is much easier to learn when the ideas and theories are well understood and not just thrown at you and so I make sure the student fully understands what I am saying before moving on. Science can often be rushed in classrooms with many ideas thrown at you all at once and it is very easy to get left behind. I believe that taking the time to read over your notes after a lesson is a brilliant idea. By doing this you can identify areas that you are finding hard to understand and it will make time with a tutor much more effective.

Personal Description:
Currently I am working as a Chemistry teacher in a sixth form college. I have been tutoring professionally for the last five years but, in a way, I started this job as a hobby when I was in school - meeting friends after school to help them with their revision.

I have a PhD in Biochemistry (Distinction) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Distinction). My hobbies are varied, but I would mention football and chess.

Teaching Experience:

I teach a wide range of students: students with special needs, students aiming for Oxbridge, students struggling to pass, etc., tailoring my teaching to their individual needs.

My classroom teaching experience includes A Level Chemistry (Edexcel and OCR), GCSE Chemistry and Physics (Edexcel), and HND in Applied Chemistry Level 4 and 5 (equivalent to first and second year of a chemistry degree).

I also work as a Chemistry A Level examiner, which enables me to guide students on how to maximise their performance in exams.

As a private tutor, I have been helping students doing A level Chemistry (all exam boards), IGCSE Chemistry (Edexcel) and GCSE Chemistry (all boards). So far I can say that the feedback from my students has always been excellent.

I have also worked as a teaching assistant in a secondary school in London. I supported Science and Mathematics lessons across the secondary age range, helping students with difficulties in learning.

During my PhD,I worked as a teacher for undergraduate practicals, and in a voluntary capacity with teenagers in a socially deprived area. All these experiences have been highly rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

In the first lesson I show original documentation for identity, proof of qualifications and DBS (previously known as CRB) to my students and their parents.

I offer the first lesson as a free no obligation lesson, which is only charged if students decide to continue to have further lessons with me. Therefore if after the first lesson you are not fully satisfied and decide not to come back, then you would not have to pay for it.

My approach to teaching students consists of the following steps:
-To establish a good atmosphere between the student and myself.
-To identify the student's current level and the difficulties they are experiencing in the topic we are going to start working on.
-To define the learning objectives for the session so that students have a clear idea of what they need to learn.
-To keep a continuous interaction with the student during the whole lesson though questioning and different activities in order to keep the student engaged whilst I can check if learning is taking place.
-To evaluate the session in terms of what the student has mastered and what needs further work.
-To set homework so that the student consolidates the acquisition of new concepts and skills.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Bath.
As an A-level student I attended Wilson's Grammar School for Boys, a renowned school for high achieving exam results. I studied, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Design Technology at A-Level achieving two A*'s in Maths and DT and A's in the others. I achieved 10 A*'s including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English language and literature at GCSE. At university I am a dedicated member to the Backstage Technical Services Society which provide services to theatre productions and live events on and off campus.

Teaching Experience:

I have now been a tutor for 3 years in my home area helping children predominantly with the GCSE's however now I have completed my A-levels and first year of university I now feel comfortable to tutor A-levels as well. I have previously tutored children to pass entrance exams, and have tutored in all subjects I offer to GCSE level. My tuition experience ranges from intensive last minute revision to a more planned and structured long term program of study with students to accommodate the needs of the student. I ran a Maths help session at school during lunchtime for younger pupils at my secondary school, helping with problems from year 7 students up to GCSE level students. I helped students in the Design Technology department as well, with their coursework, practical and theory. At University I have had the opportunity to run training sessions within the Backstage Society giving me further experience teaching others especially people closer to my age which has really helped with tuition of people studying A-levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Helping students in problem areas is key, identified by practice papers, or on request. Working at the Students personal pace, where often in a class of thirty, key weakness can often be over looked or unaddressed. Finding the key areas the student needs to work on is essential so as not to teach already covered and understood topics which can make tutoring ineffective and tedious for the student. As tutoring is a more relaxed atmosphere which is out of the classroom the student will be unafraid to ask questions where they are unsure, as not in-front of their peer group. Being a student myself I understand the need for patients when learning and differing needs of student. A friendly approach to tutoring will mean the student will not feel punished with extra lessons but instead happy to query areas they do not understand. The tuition process is different for every pupil, and will be structured around their needs, meaning some sessions will be more based on learning new material where others may be more directed to applying already gained knowledge in revision exercises.

Personal Description:
A maths graduate from the University of Liverpool. Since graduating I have gained significant experience in the commercial, education and charity sectors. a former Commercial director of a regional airport and later having set up the School of Artisan Food I have a wide range of work and life experience which all provide very useful material for my teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of private tuition dating back to my time at University.

In recent years, I have taught Finance at the University of Derby and my module enjoyed one of the highest pass rates for the year.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to help the student understand the subject, and not only understand the subject but also how the subject is applied in real life, and indeed to their own lives. I have found this really helps the student to be able to grasp the subject.

We all want exam results, but I like the students to understand what we are doing as this way they get skills that will stay with them long after the exams are over.

I am quite an engaged tutor who is responsible and adaptable to the student. I do not have a one size fits all mentality, in fact it is because I don't have this I enjoy private tutoring. I like to work with the students and build their strengths and help them with any difficulties they may be having.

Personal Description:
I am a mechanical engineer with MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from University of Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved in conducting the training camp for the selection of the team that represented Pakistan in the 36th International Physics Olympiad, held in Spain. I was involved in conducting exams, practicals, marking, teaching as well as coordinating tutorials sessions with professors.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take a practical approach to teaching. I want to give an intuitive feel to the students to help him grasp complex concepts. I do this by giving everyday examples to highlight the subjects under study. I want to
make science fun, cool and intuitive for students and remove the myth and misconceived perception that it is difficult and boring. If the teaching approach is correct, there is no reason why students will not be thrilled by laws and mechanisms of universe.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Oxford Undergraduate studying physics. I was at school at Winchester College where I boarded, giving me lots of opportunity to help other students of all abilities with their studies. I have three younger siblings who I have always helped with their learning.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years I have been working as a private tutor in maths, physics and chemistry during the univeristy holidays. I have speciallised in helping struggling students at at GCSE and A-level who are failing to achieve the grades they need. I am also available to help bright students with maths or physics scholarship exams or Oxbridge interview preperation in physics.

Tutoring Approach:

The Christmas holiday is a crucial period to get on track for the summer exams. Filling gaps early on saves time, builds confidence and enables students to revise effectively nearer the time.
I have tutored both A-level and GCSE students over the Christmas period for the last two years and helped them build effective strategies to prepare them for a very academically important few months. Former students have always then extended the tuition into the more intensive Easter period, when we make the final preparations to ensure that they get the grades they deserve. I am in a unique position of having had recent experience of these exams and also a real knack of explaining how to solve problems in an effective and productive way, an area I get particularly good feedback on. So I know exactly what it takes to prepare effectively and I am equipped with the necessary skills to ensure my students carry it out.
I have particular success teaching Maths to students who are struggling or under confident in the approach to GCSE and students that have fallen behind in class and need some one-on-one sessions to get them back on track.

Personal Description:
18/03 - Please note that on UK Tutors as both student and tutor to pay a fee before addresses can be exchanged. I have had quite a few people think that I profit from this fee but I really do not, I too have to pay a fee between 10-20.

I am a recent graduate of University of Nottingham where I studied Biochemistry and Genetics. I am looking to hopefully teach GCSE or A-level students that require help to get a better grade. I am currently not teaching younger students as I feel my skills are best suited to older students.

With regard to my CRB check, I was checked in 2013 by Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching:
1 A2 Biology (AQA)
2 A2 Chemistry (OCR)
2 AS Biology
1 AS Chemistry (OCR)
1 GCSE Sciences student
1 GCSE Chemistry and Maths
1 Year 9 student

I have taught:
2 A Level Biology (OCR)
1 GCSE Sciences (all three)
1 AS Chemistry (OCR)
1 GCSE Maths Foundation
1 GCSE Maths Higher (Edexcel) + AS Biology (AQA)
1 A2 Biology (AQA)
2 A2 Chemistry (OCR, Salters)
1 GCSE/ILETS English, AS Physics (AQA), Mathematics (MEI)

I teach Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm
Currently (17/03/2014 ) I am available to teach at these times:
Monday: 5:15-6:15
Tuesday: 4pm-5pm
Wednesday: Unavailable
Thursday: 8pm: 9pm
Sunday: 5pm-6pm, 8pm-9pm

Tutoring Approach:

After teaching solidly since November 2012, I have been able to further develop my teaching skills. To begin, I start with revision techniques, worksheets and make new, very detailed, class/revision notes with my students. After developing a solid understanding, I begin with exam questions as I have been able to collect a solid amount of questions (exam and school questions). Every lesson, I print out worksheets and notes for my students as well as give them homework. Essentially, what I offer are school lessons that are more detailed and focused than what they receive in school. Through these methods, I am able to thoroughly assess a student's abilities, increase them and hopefully better their grades. However, I stress, students must work hard themselves to achieve good grades.

Parents often ask me about discount, I am happy to discuss this for long-term students and 2 hours lessons

School Holiday (Easter, Summer and Christmas) - 20% off two hour lessons
A Level: 60 to 48
GCSE: 50 to 40

Group Lessons:

Personal Description:
LLB Law graduate from Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Law School, with experience in both LexisNexis and WestLaw databases. I am an innovative, driven individual with an eye for detail and pragmatic approach towards problems. I am a full time student and work part-time to support my family thus I am capable of bearing great responsibility, achieving targets and delivering to tight deadlines. Now I am intending to embark my theoretical legal knowledge on more practical legal orientated projects and continue personal development.

I also have extensive knowledge in chemistry, biology, maths and physics. During my GCSE's and A-levels i won a award as gifted and talented in Mathematics. My Results speak for themselves:

GCSE's : All A's
A-levels: ABBb in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

However i decided a career in Law would be more suitable for me hence i chose a change to Law which i find challenging but enjoyable.

Teaching Experience:

I have quite a lot of training teaching students ranging from 11 year olds doing their 11+ from A-level students studying for their final A2 exams in Chem, Bio, Maths.

Many of my students in the past have recommended me to other family and friends and references can be provided. I have also worked with less able students where they were predicted C's but i boosted them up to B's when they got their results! That is a extremely happy moment for my self as well as the student.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly approach. I always carry out a brief assessment at the start and target weak areas as students have different learning styles and theirs no point me to teach visually even though the student is a audio/kinaesthetic learner. Doing the brief test will allow me to completely maximize the time i spend with the student transferring all of my knowledge and key skills to the student. Additionally homework is always set after each session and is based upon the work carried out during the session to help reinforce the material covered.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate student studying electrical and electronic engineering in University of Leeds. I do privet teaching as a part-time job.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching mathematics since I was 16, as I found that most of the difficulties that I overcame when solving problems were mutual between other students. I have been teaching core A level modules and mechanics modules, along side with GCSE mathematics for 2 years.
As I have always enjoyed sciences, I started broadening my knowledge by reading a number of texts which are mostly at university level. Having done all the sciences at A level, I am very familiar with the style of questions, and the style of answers required.

Tutoring Approach:

With mathematics, I believe that the problem based approach is the most effective, specially in mechanics. I find that most student have not understood some fundamentals from the previous years, so before I start to get to the content required, I make sure that the students know the fundamentals.
In contrast I find that most student, including myself, would prefer to understand the theory before attempting any science questions.
For both mathematics and the sciences I believe that a strong exam technique is required in order to achieve the top grades. This is achieved by setting regular homeworks and past paper questions.

Personal Description:
I am a science teacher who loves teaching and tutoring. I have a PhD in chemistry and my subject knowledge is excellent. This enables me to approach a topic from multiple directions to help a student to understand.

Teaching Experience:

For the last few years I have taught in a mixed ability independent school. As such I have a wealth of experience in helping children and young people with different learning styles and needs. My approach is always to tune my teaching to the individual and my students achieve first class examination results. I now teach is a high performing school in the state sector.

As well as teaching chemistry at KS3, GCSE, AS and A2 levels, I have extensive experience of taking students beyond the A level curriculum, for example, BMAT preparation. I also have experience at teaching physics to GCSE and biology to KS3 and maths to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

Many students are limited by their confidence and my approach is to take them in small steps from what they know to what they need to know to achieve their objectives. I seek to identify a person's preferred learning style and tune my teaching to achieve success. My first priority is always to ensure the student has a comprehensive understanding of a topic and I assess understanding continually. After a topic is mastered to the point where the knowledge can be applied, I use past examination papers and ensure that the student understands the expected form of answer to a range of examination questions.
