Teaching Experience:

General Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE
Maths to 11-14 and 18+

Although your lessons will be hard work they will be rewarding: the aim is to help you enjoy learning.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Pharmacology and a qualified teacher of Science from KS1 to KS5. I am also an examiner; I mark GCSE papers. I am a very hard working individual who is easily motivated and always ready to adapt and learn new skills. Having had various opportunities to carry out a variety of laboratory assessments as key components of my course, I am able to work as an individual or as part of a team. As a part of my degree I developed essential and transferable scientific skills. My project title was 'Synthesis and Biochemical Evaluation of Heat Shock Protein Hsp90 inhibitors on MCF-7 breast cancer cells'. Studies on how drugs are discovered, developed and used to treat disease gave me an understanding of how the human body functions and how drugs can be used to affect these functions. I have experience teaching from KS1 to KS5 and open university students. I enjoy travelling; visited New York, New Jersey, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Nigeria. I get pleasure from working out at the gym regularly and I love swimming. I also enjoy studying christian books and other inspirational books.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently at an inner city school in Portsmouth. It has 900 students on roll. I have over 6 years of experience working with people with challenging behaviour, dyslexia and autism. Currently I am teaching Key stage 3 and 4. Teaching pure Biology lessons to separate Science; Physics, Chemistry and Biology to core and Additional Science students. For key stage 3 I have followed the QCA guidelines and for key stage 4 the WJEC examination board. I have written schemes of work for year 11 students to cover additional Sciences and rewrote schemes of work to meet the recent curriculum changes key stage 3 and 4. I was also involved in producing resources to be shared in the department about hydrocarbons, polymers, smart materials, ammonia fertilizers and many other kS3 topics.

Prior to this experience my first teaching placement during my PGCE year was at a mixed comprehensive with approximately 900 students on role. I taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics at key stage 3 and team taught for key stage 4. This prepared me well for my second placement where I taught all three Sciences across both key stages. My second placement was also at a mixed comprehensive school with approximately 600 students on roll. I also was involved in Individual Student Assessments (ISA). Additionally as a trainee teacher I regularly was involved in school base activities to encourage students. I was a Student Ambassador for Portsmouth University. It gave me a lot of personal satisfaction and developed my communication skills. I also attended the University of East London gifted and talented day in 2008; which was attended by a number of schools from the borough of Redbridge. It was an inspiring day of learning and fun and I have taken elements from that day into my classroom practice today.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to first of all find out my students weaknesses and turn it into their strengths; I feel that the study of Neuropharmacology as part of my undergraduate degree in Pharmacology was very relevant to teaching. I have a secured subject knowledge with all three Sciences. I also like to bring the best of people, by being patient and understanding. I have the ability to cope and work under pressure, understanding of the challenges that need overcoming to learn, ability to take ownership of material and adapt it to suit the learning styles and approach of individual.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

Personal Description:
I am a Chemistry A Level examiner and a teacher in a sixth form college. I have been tutoring professionally for the last six years but, in a way, I started this job as a hobby when I was in school - meeting friends after school to help them with their revision.

I have a PhD in Biochemistry (Distinction) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Distinction). My hobbies are varied, but I would mention football and chess.

Teaching Experience:

I teach a wide range of students: students with special needs, students aiming for Oxbridge, students struggling to pass, etc., tailoring my teaching to their individual needs.

My classroom teaching experience includes A Level Chemistry, GCSE Chemistry and Physics, and HND in Applied Chemistry Level 4 and 5 (equivalent to first and second year of a chemistry degree).

I also work as a Chemistry A Level examiner, which enables me to guide students on how to maximise their performance in exams.

As a private tutor, I have been helping students doing A level Chemistry (all exam boards), IGCSE Chemistry (Edexcel) and GCSE Chemistry (all boards). So far I can say that the feedback from my students has always been excellent.

I have also worked as a teaching assistant in a secondary school in London. I supported Science and Mathematics lessons across the secondary age range, helping students with difficulties in learning.

During my PhD,I worked as a teacher for undergraduate practicals, and in a voluntary capacity with teenagers in a socially deprived area. All these experiences have been highly rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

In the first lesson I show original documentation for identity, proof of qualifications and DBS (previously known as CRB) to my students and their parents.

I offer the first lesson as a free no obligation lesson, which is only charged if students decide to continue to have further lessons with me. Therefore if after the first lesson you are not fully satisfied and decide not to come back, then you would not have to pay for it.

My approach to teaching students consists of the following steps:
-To establish a good atmosphere between the student and myself.
-To identify the student's current level and the difficulties they are experiencing in the topic we are going to start working on.
-To define the learning objectives for the session so that students have a clear idea of what they need to learn.
-To keep a continuous interaction with the student during the whole lesson though questioning and different activities in order to keep the student engaged whilst I can check if learning is taking place.
-To evaluate the session in terms of what the student has mastered and what needs further work.
-To set homework so that the student consolidates the acquisition of new concepts and skills.

Personal Description:
Hello there,

I am a second year student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portsmouth.

I enjoy my course and like learning. I like tutoring and passing on skills to people that need it.

I am a really easy-going guy, who can adapt to many situations. I am not judgemental and love discovering new cultures.

I am patient, organized and observe really carefully the needs of my students.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to successful private tutoring, I tutored for more than a year at Miami Dade College in Florida, USA.

I am proud to ensure my future students that almost all of my previous students succeeded the course, test, exam that they hired me for.

Tutoring Approach:

As stated above, I am really patient and start from the view that anybody can succeed in the areas they need, as long as they have the basics they need.

I have no problem at all with covering material that is expected by academics to be mastered. Indeed, people are often ashamed of studying in a certain level at university/college where they do not understand "basics" that should have been covered in previous years. Rest assured that a lot of people are in this case, and that it is never too late (maybe not 24hrs before the exam;-)) to attack the problems one has in maths!

As my previous students told me, I will not go overboard with my explanations. I can really relate to the level of the person in front of me and adapt my tutoring session consequently.

Also, I am human, not a machine that knows everything. I hereby certify that I shall be honest to my student when I do not know how to solve a problem.

Personal Description:
I am a mechanical engineer with MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from University of Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved in conducting the training camp for the selection of the team that represented Pakistan in the 36th International Physics Olympiad, held in Spain. I was involved in conducting exams, practicals, marking, teaching as well as coordinating tutorials sessions with professors.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take a practical approach to teaching. I want to give an intuitive feel to the students to help him grasp complex concepts. I do this by giving everyday examples to highlight the subjects under study. I want to
make science fun, cool and intuitive for students and remove the myth and misconceived perception that it is difficult and boring. If the teaching approach is correct, there is no reason why students will not be thrilled by laws and mechanisms of universe.

Personal Description:
I have completed PhD in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Manchester. I offer assistance to degree students in assignments and dissertations. I also offer home tuitions for GCSE and A level students. Currently I am teaching at the University of Manchester to engineering students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as Lecturer at under-grad level in the department of mechanical engineering, UET Lahore for almost three years. In January 2007, I joined the department, as Lab Engineer and then promoted to the position of Lecturer after completing Master's degree in 2009. The university and the department claim top position in national ranking and also enjoy the honour of being the biggest and oldest ones in the country. My career of about two years here was full of struggle and effort for excellence in teaching and research.
In addition to that I have have given tuitions as Home Tutor to GCSE and O/A level individuals and small groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I always have the highest expectations of pupils and always have had, even when it was fashionable for learning to be more "child centred"; this is an approach I have found to pay rich dividends in terms of a pupil's academic and personal development. I have always managed to maintain friendly and relaxed environment tailored exactly to what the students requires. Above all I can offer general education and career advice when it matters the most and have observed that my students usually make fast progress towards their goals and good outputs.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated with a 2.1 in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford (St. John's College), achieving a 2.i. I completed my A levels at Dr Challoner's in Amersham

I'm enthusiastic about teaching and believe the sciences are something anyone can get to grips with once someone has explained the ideas to them in a clear and concise manner.

I am currently going through the process of becoming an officer in the British army and so am available to tutor until July 2015. In addition to in-person tuition, I can also provide help via email or skype, which could be especially useful for clearing up last minute problems before the exams. I can also provide tuition for advice on Oxbridge interviews for students applying for university.

Teaching Experience:

I participated in a mentoring scheme at my school tutoring pupils from years 8 and 9 for over a year. I have also given tutorials to biochemistry students in the year below me at uni. I have also tutored my little sister in the sciences for her 2013 GCSEs, as well as maths A level in 2014 and 2015.

Tutoring Approach:

Ideally I will contact the student prior to the tutorial and ask them what board they are on and to provide me with a list of any topics or issues that are troubling them; we will then spend the tutorial going through each issue until I feel he/she has grasped the topic.

Alternatively, if the student doesn't have any specific problems, I will give them some exam questions to answer and we will go through each question and the topic that it represents with them, at some degree of detail according to the level of understanding shown by the tutee's answer.

The questions can either be done during the tutorial, so that the answers and problems they faced are fresh in their mind, or can be emailed and completed before the tutorial.

I try to keep my tutorials relaxed and conversational so that the tutee feels comfortable with the work and isn't afraid to ask any questions, no matter how silly they think the question

Personal Description:
I am a second year Oxford Undergraduate studying physics. I was at school at Winchester College where I boarded, giving me lots of opportunity to help other students of all abilities with their studies. I have three younger siblings who I have always helped with their learning.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years I have been working as a private tutor in maths, physics and chemistry during the univeristy holidays. I have speciallised in helping struggling students at at GCSE and A-level who are failing to achieve the grades they need. I am also available to help bright students with maths or physics scholarship exams or Oxbridge interview preperation in physics.

Tutoring Approach:

The Christmas holiday is a crucial period to get on track for the summer exams. Filling gaps early on saves time, builds confidence and enables students to revise effectively nearer the time.
I have tutored both A-level and GCSE students over the Christmas period for the last two years and helped them build effective strategies to prepare them for a very academically important few months. Former students have always then extended the tuition into the more intensive Easter period, when we make the final preparations to ensure that they get the grades they deserve. I am in a unique position of having had recent experience of these exams and also a real knack of explaining how to solve problems in an effective and productive way, an area I get particularly good feedback on. So I know exactly what it takes to prepare effectively and I am equipped with the necessary skills to ensure my students carry it out.
I have particular success teaching Maths to students who are struggling or under confident in the approach to GCSE and students that have fallen behind in class and need some one-on-one sessions to get them back on track.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher with three years classroom experience, and have experience tutoring a variety of students ranging from 5 years up to 16 years old. I am now full time mum, and looking to start up some tutoring again after a 10 month gap. Outside of work and parenting, I enjoy running, swimming, seeing new places, and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my QTS and NQT year as part of the highly regarded 'Teach First' scheme. I have taught for three and a half years with pupils aged 11-16, teaching RS, Chemistry and Biology up to GCSE standard (the latter two up to Cambridge O-level standard). My experience also includes tutoring pupils who have been under achieving in literacy and working with students with SEN, including ADD and ADHD. I have had the privilege of seeing my students and tutees exceeding their target grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always found plenty of encouragement to be essential when tutoring, a lack of self-confidence can often be one of the main problems holding students back. When tutoring I will break large concepts down into smaller building blocks. Questioning, revision techniques, and mind-mapping can all help this process. Once the basics have been put in place, a much more complex picture can be built up again.
Each session would begin with a short revision of what had been learnt the last time. I will normally set some homework in order to help cement work covered in the previous session.

Personal Description:
I'm currently a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Throughout my school career I excelled in Maths, Chemistry and Biology, and my performance in these subjects at A-Level ultimately helped me to win a place at medical school. Therefore in addition to tutoring, I am in a good position to advise students who may be thinking about going to university to study for a science or healthcare related degree.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring and mentoring students throughout my school and university life. As a sixth former I provided weekly mentoring to GCSE students at school. I've held various positions of responsibility on a student-led education society at Imperial for 2-3 years, helping to organise and run mock exams and weekly tutorials for medical students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is important to get to know each student personally, and find out what they want to achieve and how they learn best. I plan my tutorials in advance with clear aims and objectives so that the student knows what to expect from their time with me. Most importantly, I try to empower my students with the confidence to know that they are capable of achieving their goals.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and friendly individual with a passion for learning. I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University and subsequently completed an MSc in the History and Philosophy of Science at the London School of Economics. I am fascinated by the natural world and by scientific enquiry. When I'm not teaching or learning I enjoy foreign cinema, playing tennis, and strumming the guitar.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked as a full-time teacher at d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form College, Oxford. During this four-year period, I taught A-level Philosophy, Sociology and Religious Studies (all AQA examining board). More recently, I have worked as a teaching assistant at Canterbury High School, focussing on struggling students and helping them achieve their potential. Concurrently, I have also worked as a private tutor teaching GCSE Maths, Chemistry and Physics as well as 11+ Maths preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

Once I understand exactly what a tutee hopes to achieve (e.g. A* Maths GCSE, or simply understanding algebra) I have three main priorities as a tutor:

i) to identify a students strengths and weaknesses through short tests

ii) to provide a course of study and assessment that will focus on the weaknesses and monitor progress

iii) to give the student belief in themselves and their abilities and to instill a love of learning!

Personal Description:
Hey, I'm currently in my final year of sixth form, hoping to study medicine at university from September. My A level subjects are chemistry, maths and French to A2 level and I studied biology to AS level. Throughout high school, I benefitted from private tuition and I realised that I would love to help those who are currently struggling with their school subjects as I know exactly what it feels like!

I strongly believe that I can help you achieve excellent grades this Summer!

Teaching Experience:

Since I'm still at sixth form, I haven't had many opportunities to teach younger students, however, I have been a maths mentor for pupils at GCSE level.

In my opinion, it helps to have a tutor who is of a similar age and who understands how certain topics may seem complicated but knows how to simplify them and make them more interesting. If you agree, contact me and I can help you to achieve those top marks easier than you think!

Tutoring Approach:

I am 17 years old and I believe that this will enable me to explain complex ideas in more simple terms to any pupils. It wasn't long ago since I was studying for my GCSE's and AS levels so all of my knowledge is up to date.

From my own experience, I understand that it takes time to grasp things that are new but the best way is to keep revising them and doing practise questions to test your knowledge. When tutoring, I aim to explain topics in the simplest terms, then work through some exam questions and teach key exam techniques. In my opinion, everyone should aim for the top but sometimes you just need a little help to get you there! I have learnt some great revision tips and made lots of useful notes so I am more than happy to not only share them with you, but also help you make your own in order to prepare you for the Summer exams.

As I mentioned, I have applied to study medicine at university. In 2014 I took the UKCAT aptitude test and got an average score of 737.5. Initially, I couldn't get over 40% on my practise questions but I learnt some key tips and tricks which I am happy to pass on!
Please email for more info on UKCAT and subject tutoring.

Personal Description:
I am a professional yet friendly individual who has a great zeal for education. I have obtained a PGCE in Secondary Science (Physics) and a B.Sc in Physics with Astrophysics (2.1). I have been tutoring for over 3 years. I enjoy learning as much as I like to share it.

Teaching Experience:

Over the past few years, I have worked in a variety of schools ranging from outstanding to special needs. I am working as a full time private tutor of Science and Maths and have taught students of different levels and different subjects including literacy and maths at key stage 2. I have also had some experience teaching for 11+ exam. I teach different exam boards at GCSEs and A level Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

The first (trial) lesson usually involves getting to know the student, his/her academic requirements, etc. Depending on the individual, I like to give them an assessment, which helps me judge what level the student is at. If the student is happy to proceed (98% success rate), we commence the lessons accordingly. My lessons generally include note making, teaching using notes/ powerpoint presentations, etc and students attempt questions based on the topic(s) covered. I like to give regular homework unless asked and mini-mocks/SATs/ tests are given as well to monitor their progress regularly. For young students, I like to keep in touch with the parents regarding their progress reports. I tailor my lessons to the needs of my students so that they make the most of their learning experience.
