Personal Description:
I love being a teacher! Watching pupils develop and grow in their knowledge of science is something that gives me great joy. I am a mother of 3 young children and moved up to Cheshire from the West Midlands 4 and a half years ago. I have taught in 2 outstanding schools and have learnt a lot over the years of what makes for effective teaching and learning.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a second in department in a thriving secondary school. I have 10 years experience in teaching A level Biology/GCSE Science privately with continued success with pupils of all abilities. Several of my pupils have achieved 100% UMS marks in their exams and most pupils I tutor move up at least one grade if not more than predicted by their school/college. I am also an examiner for AQA and therefore have a very clear and focussed understanding of the assessment process at both A Level and GCSE. This invaluable knowledge certainly contributes to the success of the pupils I teach.

Tutoring Approach:

I make sure pupils not only have a firm understanding of the scientific knowledge and concepts, but also of the assessment process and exam technique. Pupils are provided with a hand book containing a bank of past exam questions and exam paper terminology which is pertinent to them being successful in what are increasingly difficult exam papers.

Personal Description:
See what some of my previous students have to say about me:

Samuel has a quiet and unassuming manner which worked well with our lively teenage son who had previously been a little disinterested in Maths. Our son commented:- "that he had understood more from Samuel in three months than during his entire GCSE course at full time school ".
I commend Samuel highly. He is honest, friendly, reliable, quiet and exceptionally well qualified. He has a very good understanding of a child's needs and personality. Our son's result speaks for itself.
(John, Wallingford)

In my son's own words - "I wish all my teachers at school would take the same approach, I am able to understand & grasp his teaching methods clearly."
(Etrily, Didcot)

You were patient and calm in all your dealings with Lucy.
Thank you for your help and best wishes for the future.
(Rhonda, Wootton)

We are absolutely delighted with the work Samuel has done with our daughter. She has gained enormous confidence through his patience and wonderfully clear instruction. Never an academic high flier, she has moved on leaps and bounds through his help. We have had outside help before, but none with the success she has achieved with Samuel. We have the highest confidence in him and would recommend him to any friend.
(Dr Bart, Oxford)

I found Samuel to be pleasant, patient and thorough and my son was pleased to find that he was able to discuss some topics in which he was particularly interested, at a greater depth than was actually required for the exams, during the lessons. I am pleased to say that my son achieved A grades in Physics, Chemistry and Biology on the higher tier papers this summer, following his revision sessions with Samuel.
(Lynda, Blewbury)

Samuel's tuition helped me to understand and achieve a good grade in a subject that I found difficult. He was easy to talk to and willing to go over and over concepts until I understood. Without Samuel's help, I would not have achieved the grade I did.
(Georgia, Didcot)

I think that Samuel helped me significantly in my physics work, having the chance to work one on one with someone that clearly understands the subject to a great depth is far better than the class room environment.
(Elliot, Harwell)

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, with six years' experience of teaching at secondary school. I also have over six years' experience of one-to-one teaching. I have helped students of all levels of ability prepare for their exams. Get in touch to discuss how I can help you too.

Tutoring Approach:

It can be easy to get lost in a class. Private tuition, though, is all about you. What you need, what you find confusing, what you want to learn.

Come to a session with an area you want to go over, a topic you don't understand or just some homework that you don't get. I promise you that no question will ever be too stupid, no matter how many times you think you have asked it before. We will go over it until we find a way that makes sense to you.

When you don't understand a topic, it is usually because there are some gaps in your knowledge further back - especially in subjects like maths and science. I will help you to find those gaps and fill them in. This often means that topics that used to be just a confusing mass of rules and equations suddenly start to make sense.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Personal Description:
I am an 21 year old third year medical student at Peninsula medical school.

Obviously, my main interest lies with medical science, but I am hugely passionate about biology and chemistry - chemistry in particular - and enjoy sharing this with others through teaching.

Outside of academia, I enjoy dinghy sailing, surfing, fencing, and play the bass guitar.

At A level I gained three A* grades in biology, chemistry, and general studies and an A in maths. I also have an A grade in AS English language.

Unfortunately, due to university, I am unable to offer tuition during term time and am restricted to holidays. For this reason I am probably more suited to those wishing to get a head start before they return to school, who are struggling with the syllabus or who simply wish to learn! I am flexible with prices.

I am a mature individual with a keen sense of humour and love the challenge that comes with tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored a year 11 boy GCSE maths and combined science for one year (grades yet to be released);
Mentored a year 7/8 in school with reading and writing skills;
Experience in coaching 10-17 year olds in dinghy sailing, both practical and theory.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to instil a passion - or at the very least an interest - in the subject, by teaching both within and outside the syllabus to pass on the (sometimes) more interesting but ignored areas. Aside from this, I have a relaxed manner so that it doesn't feel too much like school to the tutee. If there is an area they wish to know about that I am unsure on, I will endeavour to learn about if before the next session so that they have a certain degree of input on what they learn whilst still covering the syllabus. I will ask the tutee lots of questions, as I have found this method very useful with it requiring you to think on your feet and explain answers coherently.

Personal Description:
My name is Helen and I have recently graduated from Edinburgh University with a first class degree in Geophysics and Meteorology (my first two years were maths and physics based). I am currently working as a curriculum developer with Sumdog.com whilst completing a TEFL course to teach English as a foreign language. I have always felt it is important to participate in extra-curricular activities to compliment academic work. As a result of this, I have helped develop a successful ceilidh band which I perform with in Edinburgh and I have now played for Scotland in 3 world tournaments with underwater hockey.

Teaching Experience:

I have always loved teaching and have therefore I have teaching experience in several fields, with a varied age of pupils.

Academically I have tutored Maths and Physics from standard grade to advanced higher level for the last 4 years. My musical teaching experience includes teaching Flute and Piano for 2 years and running a youth music group aimed at 5-10 year olds.

I have coached underwater hockey to 11-19 year olds for the past 7 years and I have been a swimming teacher for last 2 years coaching children from ages 4-9, including children with behavioral disabilities. My experience teaching in all these areas and age ranges has helped me understand the best way to make my teaching enjoyable and effective at all levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Nobody finds it easy to learn a subject they don't enjoy, so I tailor lessons for each individual to make them as engaging and enjoyable as possible. After assessing the learning styles of each individual I set realistic targets to aim for, this is also useful for monitoring progress. I plan all of my lessons in advance to ensure no lesson time is wasted.

Personal Description:
I am a well qualified and experienced teacher in Maths, English Language & Science. I have taught in various secondary schools for well over 14 years and have also offered one to one tuition in to many pupils in primary & secondary schools.

I possess a degree in education and a teacher training certificate (PGCE) in Maths & ICT. I have successfully helped pupils to gain exceptional results in their subject areas. I am also a national education award winner.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my experience in education, both studying and teaching, I have realised that not all students are given sufficient attention from the teacher. I have taught at various schools & colleges. Currently I am teaching at Burnley & Bradford College as a lecturer in Maths/ICT.

Throughout my experience in education, both studying and teaching, I have realised that not all students are given sufficient attention from the teacher. This is a problem inherent within the education system. Let me explain. The average school-class consists of approximately 25 students and the average teacher works under tremendous pressures. These include the demands of completing the syllabus, time restraints and teaching students of mixed abilities. For these reasons, it is usually the case that teachers are unable to attend to the needs of each individual at all times.

As a result, it is very likely that some students fail to understand key concepts or even lose confidence in themselves and in the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

One to one, use of ICT, regular assessment conducted through using worksheets, textbooks, exam -papers, ICT, on line assessments and coursework. I have recently updated my resources by building a bank of very useful resources including latest Edexcel GCSE Maths text books and CD-Roms.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Tamara and I am a student at the University of Warwick. Currently, I am on my Intercalated Year - a year taken in between Second and Third year where you are expected to work full time in an industry in which you take interest. I am currently working as a Trainee in the Reproductive Medicine Dept. of Coventry Hospital, and I will be doing so until July 2014

I have always have a great passion for Biology and Chemistry, and took them both along with Geography up to A2 level. I am a kind and enthusiastic tutor, and I hope to show all my students this though our time together.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience working as a mentor in my secondary school whilst in Sixth Form, to support the younger years. In addition to this I have run summer camps yearly for ages 4-16 and have worked and been responsible for groups of children and teenagers of all ages.

Currently, I am an Ementor for a group of 6 year 13 student, a job I received through working as a Student Ambassador at University. I have weekly online sessions with my students which are used to help them into higher education by talking about revision tips, helping them structure their coursework, and most recently talking through personal statements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient person and take the time to clearly explain things. I find that diagrams particularly help with understanding complex topics, as well as representing basic concepts that can be kept by the students as a solid grounding to a subject, and then elaborated on further in the future. With any new student I am keen for them to tell me particularly what they would like some assistance with and how best they feel they learn, so that over the first few sessions we can build a suitable style of teaching/learning to help the student in the way they feel comfortable with.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Meghavi and I am currently in my third year at Imperial College London studying BSc Physics. Currently, I am training to become a teacher alongside my Physics degree. I will have a QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) by the end of 2015. I have always been interested in teaching, from my GCSE years, I began helping my friends with their school work. Moving to A level years I started helping out some of the teachers in my school to run after school sessions to help kids with their Homework. I would say I am very patient and will sit there till the concept is clear in their minds. I am not the kind of person who gives up easily so I will do what it takes to make sure an idea or concept is understood. As a person I am very friendly and bubbly. I like to have a good laugh and I'm a good listener.

As far as personal interests go; I love to travel, I love music, movies and Food. I enjoy cooking. I like trying out new things and exploring new places and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

My interest in teaching began when I started helping my sister with her school work. I started teaching in 2009. I worked at Kumon (one of UK's largest supplementary education provider) for a year. I then started tutoring AS Students for AS Physics at Lampton School which involved spending my free lessons and after school sessions to help them with any conceptual problems, homework, exam practice or just a recap of any topic in AS Physics. These students felt comfortable coming up to me at any time during or after school to ask any queries they had about the subject. (References Available)

I have helped out in Maths classes and planned my own lessons under the supervision of my teacher. I have also worked as a learning mentor at Lampton School and helped students with any homework or classwork in various subjects.

More recently (2013 - 2014) I have been a tutor for various students; teaching A Level Physics, A Level Maths and Further Maths, GCSE Maths, Primary Maths and GCSE Science (Biology Chemistry and Physics all inc).

Tutoring Approach:

Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be their as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

I use the internet where there are extensive presentations and animations which can enhance the visual understanding of this demanding subject. I do now prefer to tutor as much as possible from Home. We live close to the 281 and 285 bus routes and an overground station.
I am willing to travel locally, but parking must be available. If parking fees apply, this will be added to the fee.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in many London Schools and some in Berkshire. I was head of chemistry at Woolwich Polytechnic School. Most recently I have been lecturing in 3 colleges (Richmond, Kingston and Westminster ) Also ran the Foundation Chemistry course at Kingston University 2011/12.

Tutoring Approach:

I always tailor the tutorials to the specific needs of the individual Student. Access to the internet is essential these days to take advantage of the many online resources. Past paper revision and practice also plays a major role in my approach. Working through problems and how to tackle the demanding searching questions is at the core of my style.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Jared, an enthusiastic 22 year old recent graduate with a first class degree in Biomedicine. I have been learning biology and life sciences for the past 10 years and hope to continue when I start a neuroscience masters. Having not stopped starting secondary school I am educated in all three sciences including maths up to GCSE level, chemistry and maths up to AS level and Biology to A level, and am confident at providing tuition in all of these areas.

Currently I am going over A level maths and chemistry and wouldn't hesitate to provide tutoring in these areas if needed. Additionally I am on the receiving end of tuition, having started learning German and am looking at starting BSL lessons in the near future.

Based in the Basildon area, I am able to travel within the local area using either my quick set of legs, my somewhat rusty mountain bike or good old public transport. I am free throughout the daytime at both weekdays and weekends, however my weekdays are likely to be filled soon, but evening tuition is not a problem

Teaching Experience:

Previously I have mentored several students who struggled with their GCSE maths and science and required the necessary C grades to gain entry into College. Whilst at university I helped local A level biology and/or chemistry students gain top grades by filling in any gaps in their knowledge and clarifying parts of the curricula they were not confident with.

Job wise, I am pursuing a teaching assistant position and currently volunteer in a local school science department, where I help prepare for science lessons and assist in demonstrations. As a result I am still in the know how regarding exam boards curriculum

Tutoring Approach:

My approach focusses on restoring confidence and making sure students maintain high expectations. I find exposure to exam papers, although thankfully not in such strict conditions, is incredibly effective in preparing students for their exams and helps overcome those pesky exam fears. Knowing the curricula is great by marks on exam papers matter, and it is a great feeling to know that when you sit the exam you know what to expect and how to answer correctly.

As science is a visual subject I try to add as many practical and integrative elements to my tutoring, which I find makes the subject matter much more memorable and less dry.

I am open to tutoring/answering any questions via skype/email/phone.

Personal Description:
I am a 54 year old mother of three grown up children and one a adorable granddaughter. I love working with young people and children. And really enjoy encouraging young people to fullfill their potential. I may be slightly more expensive than university students who offer tuition however I have teaching and exam experience and good exam results.

I am currently a Biology teacher in an outstanding school; teaching GCSE and A Level.

I have a good exam results track record. On two occasions supporting over half of my GCSE students to gain A*; as well as many of my A level students gaining A and A*.

Teaching Experience:

I have some early years experience from when I lived in New Zealand for fourteen years. However, my more relevant experience to this is I have a 2:1 degree in Biomedical science, and twelve years experience of teaching KS 3 science, KS 4 and A level Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

As I am a very positive person I encourage my students with lots of praise. However, this is not just when they do well but also when they try hard. I emphasise that its learning from mistakes that improves learning. I strongly encourage the ethos of having an open mindset; only by giving something a go can you succeed! I lead my students to become independent thinkers and learners.
