| Personal Description: I am married and have a 2 year old son, we have recently relocated to Chester. I have a PGCE in Science, a Degree in Environmental Science, and A-Levels in Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I have 10 years teaching experience, have worked as a Head of Subject for 6 years, and have led my Faculty in coursework moderation. I have also been learning Spanish at a night class, so I can still remember what it is like to be a student. |
Teaching Experience: I have 10 years teaching experience, and have taught Years 7 to 13 (with the bulk of my teaching in Years 12 and 13). I have also tutored a number of other students through A-Levels and GCSEs. I have recently relocated to Chester, but prior to this I worked in 2 schools in Essex, where I became Head of Biology. I have been successfully through two OFSTED inspections, and have been a mentor to a number of trainee teachers. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to make links between Science and modern culture. Many aspects of Science make it into films and the media, and these provide focal points for discussions (whether the Science is correct or not!). I believe that this makes the content more applicable and memorable. As a practicing teacher, I have a good knowledge of the Science curriculum, and am also aware of misconceptions shown by many students. I try to address these areas, in addition to the areas requested by the tutee. I like to use Powerpoint presentations during tutoring. These Powerpoints are linked to the National Curriculum and offer visual stimuli and multimedia resources. |

| Personal Description: I love all the main subjects in a proper curriculum! I was originally born in Canada, and have been living in the UK for twenty-three years (my parents brought me over as a teenager). I went to a Canadian high-school, took GSCE maths and A levels in North Wales, and went on to study in Manchester. I am a real teacher! I am fascinated with teaching a subject in the most effective way, whatever the level. This includes such ideas as student motivation and hierarchical order of subject matter. I think that there is such a thing as a teaching personality and that the essential qualities are benevolence, charisma, and humour; I have these qualities. I find it easy to befriend my students, gain their trust, while still keeping a pleasant, authoritative detachment. I like children: I am charmed by their enthusiasm, openness, and receptiveness. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a tutor for the past eleven years. In terms of classroom experience, I have held positions in Montessori schools (nursery), and have been a substitute teacher (or "cover supervisor") covering all subjects in English comprehensive schools. |
Tutoring Approach: The idea of hierarchy is essential to my teaching. One must learn from the concrete to the abstract in order to have one's knowledge grounded in reality, as opposed to disjointed, floating ideas. The subject of history, aside from being an essential subject in itself, is a helpful pedagogical tool. History provides a natural hierarchy for the learning of mathematics and the sciences. History also provides a background and context for the appreciation of literature. |

| Personal Description: I have A levels in Biology, Chemisty and Physics and work in financial services. As much as anything else, tutoring gives me the chance to use knowledge that is important to me on a more frequent basis |
Teaching Experience: I have been involved in a number of different projects and volunteering activities in the past. This includes working in a Leeds University summer school, involvement in the "Playing for Success" scheme, run at Headingly Stadium. In the past I helped as a volunteer at a secondary school in the Hyde Park area, helping out with all science subjects. Finally when I was taking my A-levels I used to act a mentor for a couple of GCSE students who needed a bit of extra help. |
Tutoring Approach: I have always been passionate about knowledge and learning, I believe that a good grounding in the Sciences is more and more important in todays society. I feel the best way to help someone to develope this is to make Science interesting to the individual. I also believe in the value of kinesthetic learning, the teachers that I remember from my own time at school are the ones who had a real passion for their subject and went out of their way to pass it on. |

| Personal Description: I am a Principal Lecturer in Chemistry and former Head of Department of Science at a Polytechnic in Nigeria. I have a number of Publications in Academic Journals and currently on PhD by research work in Analytical Chemistry at the Nottingham Trent University. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught undergraduate students in chemistry modules at a Polytechnic in Nigeria for over 16 years and have also supervised a number of student independent projects during the period, before coming to UK for further studies. I equally have experience in tutoring Biology in GSCE classes for about 3 years (being the first minor subject in my University Training). |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to teaching is student-centered learning activity, starting from identifying the unknown and proffer solution in an interactive way without losing sight of the relevant teaching/learning goals and outcomes. Recognising the knowledge gap of learners with adequate support, encouragement and guidance; it would lead to desire objectives and results. With hardwork and right attitudes; learning is automatic and interesting. My experiene in handling and improving students' learning skills in chemistry is very adequate. |

| Personal Description: I am an Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate. Although I haven't any teaching experience,I know what it takes to make children understand a subject and I am rigid in my ways and make sure that when I do something,I do it to the end, same goes for my tutoring style. I would give extra time, without charge if i feel the need and make sure the pupil exits from my home with a clear understanding of the subject. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught my younger siblings from time to time, but apart from that,no proper teaching experience. But I know that I can excel at tutoring when the chance comes. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very systematic and would deal with the students and their problems with patience and relevance, making sure that the student is very about his/her subject. |

| Personal Description: Thank you for taking the time to browse through my page. I am a locally based private tutor with many existing students in Swansea, Llanelli, Neath and Port Talbot. I am also a fluent Welsh speaker and teach many students from Welsh medium schools. I have a BSc with honours in Mathematics and last year I graduated from Swansea University with a Masters degree in Mathematics and Computing for Finance. As a qualified Mathematician, my aim is to make learning Mathematics as easy and clear as possible by taking the student from their own starting ability and develop their knowledge in preparation for the national examinations. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as a freelance tutor for the last 8 years and currently have other tutors working for me teaching various other subjects. I work alongside the local English and Welsh Primary and Comprehensive Schools to ensure that I am fulfilling the requirements of their teaching structures as well as the need of the child. |
Tutoring Approach: I am sure that many of you will argue that Maths is a very boring subject and this is often due to a lack of understanding. Your child may also feel that the school classes move on far too quickly, and it is very easy to get left behind. My goal is to make the child feel comfortable with the subject on a one to one basis, and to encourage them to fully grasp a particular topic before we move on to another. I use many computer applications to aid my teaching and to make the learning process a lot more fun! I like to use examples based on 'real-world' principles, therefore the student can understand the relevance of a certain topic. Every child has different strengths and levels of ability in the subject. I concentrate specifically on the needs of the tutee and play to each individual's strengths. Since maths is an integarted subject I allow time for each topic to be fully understood before moving onto another. I consider myself to be an approachable and friendly tutor. I like to get the best out of my students. I also have to date a 100% examination pass rate with my students. |

| Personal Description: I am studying Biochemistry at Bristol University having achieved 3 As in Maths, Biology and Chemistry, achieving 94% for my Maths A-level. I intend to become a teacher when I have finished University and find teaching and seeing people learn and improve one of the most fantastic rewards for hard work. |
Teaching Experience: I worked as a tutor during sixth form college voluntarily. Teaching mainly biology but also sometimes with Maths and Chemistry during exam periods. |
Tutoring Approach: Every student is different and each finds learning easier if it is done in the correct way for them. I first try to discover the student's preference and use that by taking into consideration whether the student prefers to be taught through talking and discussion; exercises and more of a hands-on approach or by visual aids such as diagrams and slideshows. This is the only way to make sure teaching is effective. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying at Oxford University for a Master's degree in Physics. Having studied Physics, Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths to A level at King Edward VI Handsworth School, I acheived A grades in all subjects- all marks were above 90%. At GCSE, I obtained 11 A* grades and 2 A grades. I am a full member of Mensa. Other interests include singing, playing piano and swimming. |
Teaching Experience: Weekly tuition within the company "My Child's Education" since September 2008. Experience tutoring mathematics to students aged 14-19. One year spent tutoring English, Chemistry and Biology up to GCSE level. Very willing to tutor similar subjects or English up to GCSE level, or Maths up to A-level. Other relevant experience includes working with handicapped toddlers on a voluntary basis, and running various after school and lunchtime clubs for the lower school. |
Tutoring Approach: My main aim is to inspire students to be as enthusiastic about their studies as I am. Developing a real and lasting flair for more difficult subjects is a passion of mine. Having just left school myself, I feel I can relate to the students, perhaps better than a typical tutor. I believe that to succeed, a student needs to practice as many questions as possible and be familiar with exam papers. | Personal Description: I have worked with young people since an early age and have always enjoyed passing on skills and knowledge. This stemmed from coaching hockey at a local hockey club, to being a mentor for students thinking about going to university through the 'Aim Higher' scheme. I later applied for the PGCE qualification in Science. |
Teaching Experience: I am an experienced qualified teacher, currently 2nd in charge of a large Science department teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics to secondary aged students. I have just been promoted to head of Science. I have a BSc (Hons) in Biology and a Science PGCE teaching qualification from the University of Southampton. I am currently studying for a Masters in Education and Learning from the University of Winchester. I hold a current CRB check, which a copy of is available on request. I have experience of all exam boards and am currently teaching OCR and AQA Science double and triple sciences. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a very student-focused teacher and adapt my teaching to the individual student, their preferred learning style and interests. I quickly know my students strengths and weaknesses and my lessons are designed to build upon these. I have been tutoring for a year and have a proven ability to show an improvement in students grades. |

| Personal Description: I am 47 years old, married with three children. I entered teaching in September 1991 following the successful completion of a Postgraduate Certificate of Education at the University of Bristol in July 1991. During the years between graduating from Sussex University with a 2.1 degree in Chemistry and becoming a teacher, I worked as a laboratory technician for a fertilizer manufacturer and I studied for a Master Degree that I successfully completed in 1990. I am a practical person who enjoys home improvements, car maintenance and gardening. I am an active member of my local Baptist Church. I teach children in "Extreme". This is a Sunday School class for boys and girls in years 5 and 6. |
Teaching Experience: I spent six years during the 1990's teaching balanced science courses to students aged eleven to sixteen and Advanced Level Chemistry to post sixteen students. I tutored a group of approximately thirty students from Year 7 through to Year 11, helping them with their personal, emotional and academic development. I have recently returned to teaching following a break of approximately eleven years. Between January 2009 and July 2009 I worked as a supply teacher working in a range of Secondary Schools in Coventry and Warwickshire. During the late 1990's, whilst not directly employed as a teacher, I worked part-time as a Tutor, visiting students in their own homes and helping them with their understanding of Science and Maths at Key Stages 3 and 4. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer students to present me with specific problems or areas of study where they appear to be struggling with their knowledge, understanding or application of Science. This means that each session can be planned and prepared in advance, so that the available time may be used to its maximum affect. I like to use text books, past exam papers and (where possible) IT resources, to provide clear explanations of key scientific concepts and examples of the types of questions students may encounter in an examination. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a medical student, having completed my second year at Imperial College London. I have always been determined and hard working which has been reflected in my academic and wide variety of extracurricular interests. At GCSE, I achieved 9A* and at A level, I achieved 4 As in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Modern History. After my A levels I took a gap year, where I went to India for 2 months and volunteered in a blind school, teaching children English and learning how to read and write braille. I also volunteered at an autistic childrens group here in the UK and helped weekly at my local brownies and girl guides groups. I then worked as a nursery assistant at various nurseries across the north west. |
Teaching Experience: Although I have no formal teaching experience, I have volunteered in India teaching children of all ages and backgrounds English. I have had much experience of working with children and being an aunt myself has also helped in teaching me about working with and looking after children. I am passionate about teaching and would love the opportunity to be able to help children with their studies. |
Tutoring Approach: One of the attributes of a tutor I consider to be most important is the ability to be patient, a good listener and to be able to decipher what the student needs. This is something that I feel I am very good at and during my time at university when examining and taking histories from patients I feel I have been able to improve and build on these skills. It is important to recognise each student as an individual and cater to their individual needs, looking at the ways in which they learn best, be it visual, audio etc. Having gone through numerous examinations myself and talking to fellow students, I have realised the importance of not only learning material but also learning how to study. I feel that through my own experiences coupled with knowledge of the specified areas, I will be able to help my students achieve their goals and help them in being able to improve the way in which they study and learn themselves. My aim is to make the sessions not only worthwhile in terms of academia, but also to make in enjoyable and interesting. I am very approachable person and would be happy to take direction from students towards areas they require the most help on. |
