Personal Description:
I am an extremely approachable and down-to-earth person and pride myself on my ability to get on with any individual; in fact I really enjoy working with people from all walks of life! I think that having an affable temperament and approach to tutoring is the most effective way of getting the best results because, as studies confirm, students learn better when they are happy and are enjoying their learning experience. I therefore find it best for students to learn in their home environment where they are most comfortable and I am then able to provide the most effective and enjoyable tutoring experience.

Teaching Experience:

From a very young age I found that I was always good at explaining things to people, and therefore my tutoring started with simply teaching friends at school who were struggling with various subjects, and it has continued from there. In fact I was even heralded a better teacher than my secondary school Maths teacher by several classmates, who apparently preferred my approach to teaching! I went on to tutor a friend to achieve his Business Studies AVCE, then tutored several children of family friends on various subjects at GCSE and key stage 3 levels (years 7-9) during my gap year before university.

Having taken a break to study for my degree I then returned to the profession in 2009. Since then I have achieved excellent results, including an A-Level Business Studies student who went from an E to an A grade, several A*s in GCSE Maths, as well as boosting the confidence and results in young students aged 8-14 who have been struggling with their maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is vital to be a good listener as a tutor and to adapt your tutoring style and approach to the student. If a more visual approach to learning produces better results for a student than it is important to apply such an approach, and equally, for example, I adopt a more conversational style of tutoring for students that prefer more verbal learning techniques. Ultimately, I am a well-rounded tutor who has worked successfully with individuals from various backgrounds and of varying abilities so whatever you are aiming to achieve I will endeavour to help you achieve it!

I have vast experience working with children with dyslexia, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and do not see these as barriers to achieving positive results. I believe every child is different and therefore tailor my approach to the individual in order to achieve the best possible results.

Personal Description:
Fully qualified teacher, Graduate from the University of Manchester. My teaching experience has been quite varied over the past two decades. I have worked as, and currently still do as a mainstream teacher, i have also been involved in the STEM project, a multimillion pound initiative by the UK government to increase interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I have a passion for both teaching and science and it envelops most of my working week. I am a published author on A level chemistry and am currently developing video lessons for the international A level in Chemistry and Biology. I am currently almost fully booked with one maybe two slots available.

Teaching Experience:

20 years Teaching Maths, Chemistry, and Biology to A level, Lead Tutor for the medical foundation assisting pupils to gain A's and A*'s to enter Medicine. Apart from subject specific exams I also tutor for 11+ and the CATS for University candidates and Doctors.

In the past 12 months have entered 24 13 year olds for early GCSE's expecting A's and A*'s. Age range of my pupils vary from 12 to 18. My online lessons can be . I have currently created A2 resources for the Times Educational Supplement, am a published Author for an A level chemistry Text book and was invited to the national teaching awards.

Tutoring Approach:

I develop understanding to pass exams and hands on learning (Kinesthetic) for students who learn by doing.

Their is no magic to this, i impart the ability to understand what the examiner is asking and what they are expecting. 2011 results All my tutees gained grade A 's and 30% gained PERFECT UMS scores. Students who follow my regimen will achieve grade A's. I am also preparing an 11 and 12 year old for A level maths.

While textbooks cover the breadth of topics in science, hands-on laboratory activities focus on and deepen understanding of selected subjects. Hands-on tools provide opportunities for students to learn key concepts and techniques through active participation and inquiry. My practicle lab sessions allow efficient implementation and standardization of biotechnology activities in the classroom. My sessions are adaptable to a range of grade levels (keystage 3 through University), so you can choose the depth of information that you want to learn. A practicla session costs from 20 and is an average 2 hour session. The acticities include DNA extraction, genetic engineering to create bioluminescent bacteria and a host of others.

I have my own youtube channel which is aimed directly at A level topics. The videos look at mathematics for chemistry and biology, exam questions based on experiments. My personal resources are held on my own VLE which all my students can access.

Pupils are constantly tracked, not only on subject knowledge but also how well they analyse exam questions and what they need to improve.

I am willing to travel but this will add a small charge to the hourly rate.

Personal Description:
I am an outgoing and hard working 1st Class BA Cambridge graduate, who can get along well with almost anybody. I've been consistently in education, having gone straight from school into university and straight from university into drama school.

I love to learn.

I am a huge fan of academia, having worked hard in my studies throughout my life, and I love stimulating my mind and working hard, and for that reason I love tutoring, where I can both teach and continue to learn myself.

Teaching Experience:

My degree at Cambridge University was in Education studies with English and Drama. Although it was not a teacher training course, the Education Studies module of the degree involved learning an introduction to the philosophy, psychology, sociology and history of education. I was also, of course, able to benefit from the private seminar and tutorial system that Cambridge offers. As a result, I am fully aware of how beneficial a one-on-one teaching style can help to build confidence, and heighten learning and understanding.

I have now been tutoring ages 7-18 for about 2 years, and have had very good feedback from my various jobs:

1. Lucy is an excellent enthusiastic tutor who does a great job keeping my son interested and engaged. I would highly recommend her. - Father of Zain (age 8)

2. I would really like to thank you for being such a great tutor. We appreciate the effort you put into preparing for the sessions with Ella and we have every confidence in your dedication and abilities. - Father of Ella (age 16)

3. "Julian scored 97% UMS marks in English Language, which is within 2.1% of all the boys taking English this year. For English Literature his UMS score was 97% again, which is within 4% of all the boys this year! This brilliant result, we think, is largely thanks to your help" - Mother of Julian (age 16)

4. Our son absolutely loved Lucy. She worked so hard with him in the lead-up to his exams, and I don`t know what we would have done without her! - Mother of Christopher (age 11)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is generally fun. I am the tutor who is also the friend. I do not let a child get away with misbehaviour or laziness, but at the same time I am certainly not stern and forceful. My approach is without a doubt to help the child learn to love the subject and want improvement for themselves, not because I demand it of them.

Firstly, I will always aim to find the areas the child is having the most difficulty with and break it down to its simplest form to help them understand. Once a child has understood the basic principle of what we are learning, I aim to push them as far as I can with their learning - my memory of the best teacher's I had at school were the teacher's who pushed me even further than I needed to go, and who gave me more knowledge and information than I needed to know. I then found that I entered my exams relaxed and confident, knowing that I had excess knowledge. Rather than learning just to answer set questions in an exam, I felt I truly understood those subjects.

Of course, I would play everything by ear though, and I would not pile extra work or information on a child if they are still struggling. We will work at a pace that is comfortable but useful for them.

Personal Description:
I'm Seb and I'm currently in my third year at Oxford University studying economics and management. Although economics is my current area of study, my academic interests cover a range of subjects including maths, biology, english and spanish. In conjunction with the relevant academic experience I also have a lot of experience in junior sports coaching, which has enabled me to work with and learn how to motivate young people.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my tutoring experience has been in economics and maths, covering a number of tutees of different ages and abilities, whether its young tutees struggling with maths or economics students trying to improve exam grades. My most recent economics tutee went from a U grade to a B in one module and got an A in his final module after just a few weeks of tutoring sessions. My academic interests are diverse and I am also able to tutor biology and english. No matter a tutee's ability or age, I am willing to help.
I have also worked with several students to prepare them for university application and interview process

Tutoring Approach:

As a young tutor, my knowledge of the school system and university application is both extensive and very up-to-date. The school environment is not always conducive to learning as individuals all learn in different ways; hence generic teaching can be detrimental to certain individuals. I aim to firstly establish the way in which my tutees like to be taught before going on to explore the key concepts. Having built a solid foundation, I listen to feedback from the tutee as to the particular areas they want to focus on and work extensively to build on both their understanding and technique for exams.

Personal Description:
I thoroughly enjoy teaching by gaining the child's attention and keeping them determined to always achieve their best. I'm a very enthusiastic and confident individual who is committed to enhance students' self esteem. Since I am still a University College London student myself; I find it very easy to get along with younger learners, making sure the lesson is not only informative but enjoyable too.
I tutor from home, mainly because I have a large whiteboard and seem to find it very helpful when interacting with my students. However, I do also teach at local places, such as the Library.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Maths and Science up to GCSE level privately for three years now. Thus, I have worked with young learners from all walks of life, some even with special needs. I have developed my skills on how to become sympathetic and easy going with my students, yet firm and serious when necessary. This is because I feel it is important to allow the student to feel at ease during the lesson, however, they should concentrate on their work at the same time.
Furthermore, during 2011 academic year I worked at an Arabic School as a teacher's assistant. I also volunteered for various organisations, such as a maths assistant at Friary park community centre, and in 2010 I assisted in a Reception class in Derwentwater Primary school.
I am currently employed at Kumon and part time at First Class Learning, tutoring Maths and English to children of all ages. I have worked with children as young as three. Working in these centres has taught me how to ensure the students stay focused at all times. Moreover, I am continually developing new skills through the ongoing experiences.

Tutoring Approach:

I tend to use a variety of methods when teaching, depending on the child and their needs, focusing on their age and what their syllabus requires. I am capable to do quick summarised revision sessions, as well as long term lesson plans. Either way I ensure that the student is always given homework and stays revising. I also do small mastery tests at the start of each lesson which consists of a five minute recap test, so the student is required to have revised the previous lesson well. Obviously if they struggle with the homework or mastery test, then the lesson plan's pace is adjusted to meet the child's level. This helps to ensure that the student masters each topic before moving on to the next.

Personal Description:
I am a 3rd year medical student studying at imperial college london. I have obtained academic distinction in both 1st and 2nd year examination, therefore I believe I have an effective method of learning with which I can help the students.

I am very passionate about teaching as I believe with the right method, students would be able to reach their potential. Different students have different ways of optimised learning, it is both challenging and rewarding to explore the best way of learning for them, and that's where the fun of teaching lies for me.

Having experienced GCSE/Alevel and now in university, I feel that there are various learning habits developed during my GCSE/Alevel years which if not corrected, could hinder an effective learning later on in university; namely, the rigid way of cramming hard facts and not truly absorbing the essence of it. Therefore, I feel strongly about guiding the students onto the correct learning habits which could benefit them not just for exam in the short term, but for life-long learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have experiences tutoring lower-year students during GCSE and Alevel.
I am also tutoring year 1 & 2 medical students on background science and clinical medicine.
I have also participated as a tutor in teaching days organised by imperial college medical school directed at GCSE & A level students with the aim of introducing them to medicine and human physiology.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a focused teaching approach where key learning points should be emphasized, students would be taught independent problem-solving, that is, applying learnt principles to a variety of different problems. Memorising methods are important for learning hard facts, but helping the students to truly understand and explore the principles is the central focus.
Even though the essence of teaching is the same, there's differences in how we should approach different subjects.

mathematics:
There's two key points to learning maths; a thorough understanding of key principles, and a flexible mind when approaching mathematical problems. The students should be shown how the principles are derived within reasonably simple-level scope, as not understanding how and why the principles are derived could lead to rigid way of mathematical thinking, which then leads to the students unable to solve those problems with a twist to them. A flexible mind not only comes with adequate understanding of the key teaching points, but also comes with guided practice. I would encourage the students to tackle a variety of mathematical problem based on the principle, with an increasing degree of difficulty, as it is important to teach the students not to be afraid of difficult and challenging questions. With a systematic approach, difficult problems becomes self-evidently easy.

Science (biology, chemistry, physics)
For GCSE/A-LEVEL, because of the learning is relatively basic in comparison to the higher education, there's many new concepts introduced which could be hard to get their head around to. Especially when it is often the case that a conclusion is given to the students as a hard fact for them to memorise, but nothing is explained in term of how such conclusion is reached. In such case, I am aiming to explain the basis behind various mechanism in the simplest language with plenty of analogies so to allow the students to have the whole picture, this I find actually improve on their long-term memory of the hard facts.
Real-life application is another way of encouraging their interest in the subject, as well as their desire to learn more about the natural mechanics that governs our biological, physical and chemical system, by making the link, and seeing the application, can they truly appreciate the relevance of learning science.

Mandarin
When it comes to teaching language, the key is to provide a native environment, and encourage as much communication and practice with them as possible. Since a large amount of the work lies on memorisation, it could be quite dull for the student, therefore, I am using a variety of teaching tools (graphical, presentation, discussion, games and role-play) to makes it interesting and fun for the students, it would also help to establish a sense of acheivement quite early on in language learning.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at King's College London aspiring to embark on an academic surgery career. I am particularly interested in education and whilst at university, I have been involved in various extracurricular activities including organising fundraising, academic support and community events.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a diverse audience of students, from teaching at a volunteer run homework club for inner city children with refugee status to tutoring middle aged professionals preparing for medical school entrance examinations. This range of audience has led me to acquire some of the most important communication skills required to become an excellent tutor. I have been tutoring secondary school pupils for over 5 years now and I feel as a secondary student of the recent past myself I can pass on the techniques and methods that I know work to excel in today's system.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in a tailored and planned approach to every student. Each student has individual needs which have to be fully understood before a plan of action can be formulated. I build a plan with my students and we work together to ensure progress through it. Regular reflection is also an important aspect of my teaching approach which helps the student realise where they need to focus.

Personal Description:
I aim to support each individual in achieving his or her full potential, and have received regular feedback that I have an approachable style which empowers students and puts them at their ease. I have been a specialist in English Language skills, particularly English for Academic Purposes, for a number of years, via Skype, email and face to face tuition. I play violin and sing regularly, and have been an orchestral and chamber musician for thirty five years.

Teaching Experience:

I have thirty years' experience as a qualified teacher, of which I spent 15 years in leadership positions in schools, including two head ships in England and Scotland. I teach English for Academic Purposes to overseas students and have a range of violin, singing and public speaking pupils. I prepare students for IELTs, PTEG/PTE Academic, for which I am an examiner, and ESB exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to tailor my approach to meet the needs of each individual student. Lessons are a mixture of interactive and instructional, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions in a stress- free environment. I use electronic resources to support my teaching and will mark and instruct via online instructional methods where required to do so.

Personal Description:
As a scientist I have had extensive experience of teaching in an academic and lab environment, alongside interactive science at festivals and museums. I have always enjoyed teaching and I am passionate about igniting curiosity about science in those whom I teach. I have worked on a professional and voluntary basis with children from primary school age all the way up to Masters degree level.

Science can be a daunting subject and I appreciate the need to build confidence by tailoring explanations to different levels of understanding, and different types of personality.

My own scientific knowledge comes from understanding a topic rather than parrot-fashion memorising, I believe this is the best long-term learning method and therefore I will use this approach where possible with my students by building up from the basics.

I am very supportive of questions as working in the scientific field has taught me that there are no stupid questions and I think that learning is more efficient when a student enjoys what they are being taught. I also like to incorporate every day examples as I believe this can make science topics come alive and become relevant to an individual.

Teaching Experience:

- Private Tuition (2013): Last summer I tutored two year 10 students in GCSE level chemistry, both of which had a notable increase in their grades. One student after only 1 month of tuition made the remarkable achievement of an increase in grades from 34% to 64%.
- Work Experience Weeks (2005-current): I have supervised 16 A-level/undergraduate students for a work experience week. This involves tours of the labs, explanation of the science behind certain experiments and how drug development works (with written materials), as well as supervision of experiments.
- MSc Workshop (2011-2014): I created materials and helped run a workshop in Protein Modelling for the UCL MSc Drug Design course.
- Cancer Research UK (2011): Made a video and helped the Science Communication team create an interactive game to help the public understand how drugs bind into proteins.
- Volunteer Usher at Cheltenham Science Festival (2008-current): In groups I have helped supervised school classes doing experiments such as making a hot air balloon from tissue paper, drawing organs on a t-shirt (primary school), extracting DNA from a strawberry, making paper model DNA and using chemistry modelling equipment (secondary school)
- Cardiff Science Week (2004-2007): Supervised students with various science exhibits such as fishing for insects from a pond (primary school) and making a cell from a balloon and popping it to look at the inside of the cell (secondary school).
- Science Writing (2008-current): Writing articles at Cheltenham Science Festival, for London Science Museum and the Royal Society (for non-scientists and Children) has greatly improved by ability to write materials for tutoring. I have a portfolio if you are interested in this work.

Tutoring Approach:

As well as the approach I discussed above I also provide and create my own teaching materials with visual and interactive aids. I prefer to familiarise myself with the school syllabus so I can tailor my tutoring to the pupil's needs.

For any older pupils I can also offer advice on careers as well as help with CVs/applications to university.

I can also on request do small fun "kitchen" experiments to inspire interest and excitement in science.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am a student of Physics and astronomy at Cardiff University. I am 20 years old and I was born in Prague, Czech Republic. I have many hobbies (Astrophotography, RC models,) as well as interests in sports (rowing, skiing, diving, cycling).

Teaching Experience:

During my last year of college I was chosen by Maths academy of my college to tutor my year younger class mates. Although the offer was initially only for Maths, I soon also tutored Physics, Chemistry. During last 3 years I was an instructor at a summer camp. I was responsible for group of 10 boys(age 8-11). At this camp I also did presentation about astronomy and science generally as well as helping their struggles at school.

Tutoring Approach:

The only way be successful at science subjects, tutee must understand the topics instead just memorising the subject. Because of this I mainly emphasise on understanding and completing enough exercise. I also try to relate the question to the real life problem (or experience) to make it easier to imagine it.

Personal Description:
My Profile:

Graduated from Leeds University in Genetics and have a deep passion for science. After leaving University, I have worked in the Computing and IT industry to Project Manager level, mainly for large blue chip financial companies such as General Accident (now Aviva), Standard Life, Bank of Scotland, GE Corporate and others. In 2004 I decided to return to my original love of science and gained a PGCE teaching qualification to teach science.

It is my aim to transfer my passion and love for science to my students as well as an understanding of the subject in order to enable them to AIM HIGHER and ace their exams.

Building on my science qualification, I gained a PGCE teaching qualification from Huddersfield University to become a qualified teacher of science in 2005. Following the successful completion of the PGCE, I rapidly achieved the position of Programme Manager and gained extensive experience of teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics, BTEC Applied Sciences (Medical Science, Forensic Science, Health and Social Care), Access to Nursing, Access for Medical Professionals and Foundation Degree (Biology). The teaching experience has been in schools, Sixth Form Colleges and Further Education Colleges in Warrington, Leeds and Manchester.

Teaching Experience:

I have been providing select 1 to 1 private tuition in all areas including English, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Media Studies and Physics.

I am able to tutor from primary, secondary (including entrance exams) through GCSE, A Levels, BTEC (Level 2 and Level 3) and Adult Foundation Degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I aim to guide the tutee to learn in a structured manner that so that the child does not waste their time jumping from topic to topic, randomly browsing a bit here and a bit there, as often happens. To do that, as tutor, I will facilitate their learning on a 1 to 1 basis so that they may gain a deeper and greater depth of knowledge of the subject. I will provide the subject knowledge expertise and transfer my knowledge to the tutee in a manner and at a level that is appropriate to the tutee but pushing them beyond their limits to the next stage. To achieve that grade "A*" a GCSE tutee should be able to understand basic AS Level material. For an A Level tutee to achieve the highest grades at A Level they should be able to cope with University first year material with ease. It is my aim to enable my tutees to achieve these goals.

I will work to improve the child's self esteem, self belief and confidence in their ability to do well. As a trained hypnotherapist I am particularly qualified to boost a child's self-esteem. Once the tutee is confident in their subject knowledge, then we will work on exam techniques and exam practice in order to enable the tutee to ace the exams and significantly improve their grades.

I will work with each tutee on an individual basis and adjust the tuition lessons to their needs. There is no standard one size fits all model with me. Homework will be set to enable the subject matter to be reinforced with some self-learning at home. Exam practice will be key to enable the tutee to become proficient in their exams and achieve the highest grades. Exam technique contributes significantly towards exam success. We will always work to enable the tutee to AIM HIGHER.

I am also able to guide sixth formers with their UCAS applications and personal statements.

At all times parents will be involved with the learning of their child so that they may guide and support their child's education and monitor progress. Parental involvement is also a major factor in the child's success.

For the science lessons my aim is to include as much practical work as is possible, where this is feasible in a tuition setting, keeping safety of the child of paramount importance.

If your child is quiet and shy or is in a mediocre class or is just coasting along or is struggling to achieve the grades required to get into the University course of their choice, whether it is Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacology, Engineering, Computing, Optometry or other science course, then tuition with myself will enable them to boost their grades and give them the advantage that they need. Honest school teachers will tell you that it is the noisy and disruptive pupils that get their attention, whereas the quite shy hardworking pupils tend to get neglected. Busy school teachers just do not have the time or energy to devote to helping their quieter or weaker pupils and it is these pupils that especially benefit from extra personal tuition. On the other hand a brighter pupil may be so far ahead of his or her peers that the teacher is just not able to give them the attention they need. A good tutor will help guide tutees who want to learn to get ahead and avoid becoming disinterested or bored. Why leave it to chance?

It is never too early to start boosting a child's education. For primary school children it is important that they get a good start to their education and do not lag behind. A tuition boost will enable them to get into a better school or a higher stream set so that they do not have to struggle or get left behind when the come to do their GCSE and A Levels.

I also have experience of vocational courses such as the BTEC and Applied Science courses and I am able to provide the additional guidance and support required to ensure that your child achieves Distinctions rather than passes in their assignments. It is not my policy to do the tutee's coursework for them but to help, guide and support their research and provide constructive feedback.

Tutees will be required to complete all assessments and homework on time in advance of the relevant lesson.

Personal Description:
I am a Geography graduate of Magdalene College Cambridge. I studied Geography, Mathematics, Biology and English Literature at A Level as well as taking an Extended Project Qualification. I achieved 100% in several of my modules including Decision Mathematics, Victorian Literature, Biology practical work and my Geography AS paper. I am an open, friendly and approachable character with a genuine love of learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored previously and lectured at New York University. I have given talks to school aged children and fellow students at the London Science Museum and Cambridge University Engineering Department. As a Guide leader I am used to working with children and young people. In addition to this I have been tutored myself so know what can be achieved with one-on-one teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a strong work ethic driven mainly by my love of assimilating knowledge purely for knowledge's sake. I hope to not only improve my tutees abilities in their respective subjects but encourage them to enjoy their learning and see the value of education. I believe that confidence is a major factor when approaching a new or a difficult topic. Making mistakes is a natural part of learning and just because you are struggling with a problem now doesn't mean that you will never be able to solve it. I have first hand experience of this. In my first AS Maths exam in January I got a C. But by June I was achieving A grades and never slipped below this again. I believe that it was tutoring that was the catalyst for my improvement. It gave me the confidence to ask questions but it also showed me that the rapid pace of classroom learning doesn't suit everyone. Tutoring should consolidate what is taught in schools and should only push children beyond their age range's ability if the child is comfortable with this and has a keen interest in the subject.

Personal Description:
I have been a secondary school teacher for over 30 years. I am currently teaching at a leading comprehensive school in South London. I am laso very interested in learning styles and incorporate study skills in my tuition sessions. Students show good progress within weeks and develop confidence and a liking for the subject I teach.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Maths and Science to secondary students for over 30 years. Many of my students have experienced great success ranging from grade C to A* depending on their starting grades. My PETS approach will help students to carry out revision in a systematic and organised way. You will see progress and improvements within a few weeks (depending on how well you adopt my approach).

Tutoring Approach:

I employ a very innovative approach (PETS) to tutoring that will produce positive results within weeks. I also use humour and give much importance to motivating and inspiring my students. I wish to remind parents/tutees that you are paying for specialist help. I have the experience and the knowledge to help you achieve your target grade, hence my fee structure.

I also run small group tuition (2-4 students) at my home and the fee is only 30.00 for 2 hours per session. This is a cheaper option and I find students enjoy learning in groups.
