Personal Description:
My name is Duncan. I completed a Physics/Maths Degree in 1995 before researching for a PhD which I completed in 1999. I then worked for a government research laboratory and then a top-rated university research department. I have since moved into teaching as I find it more rewarding than research.

Teaching Experience:

I am a self-employed Maths Tutor and it is my main income. For this reason I am continually developing new resources for my students and continually developing my coaching skills. I am not a classroom teacher... instead I am a specialist one-to-one coach which requires very different skills.

I have a number of regular slots for long-term students (most of which are usually taken at any one time) and some capacity for one-off sessions (or a short series of sessions). I run a special "Exam Diary" from April through to June with extra sessions available for people looking for help in the lead-up to the summer exams. My actual availability varies... please contact to find out more!

I have experience of tutoring for A-level, GCSE Higher, GCSE Foundation and 11+/13+ for Maths (including C1-4, M1, S1, etc.).

In Summer 2012 one student surprised their class by getting a good grade at C1 (unlike the rest of the class) because the teacher had not prepared them for unusual questions (but I had prepared my student)... another student was raised from a U to a C at AS Level... and another student has gone up two sets at school within less than 12 months... one student got an A* and made it to Cambridge... and another student made it to Canford with a special recommendation in their acceptance letter for their maths. I cannot guarantee this level of success but believe I offer a "unique, unfair advantage".

I am also happy to offer support for all science subjects up to GCSE level (and I can also offer Physics A-Level support to my regular students).

Limited help is available to university students. However, generally this is difficult because subjects become so varied at this level that it can be difficult for me to know exactly what your course is looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is three-fold...

First I aim to work on basic skills... these are the foundation of success in Mathematics. If you know how to do a really complicated question in A-Level Maths you can lose most of the points if you accidently do not rearrange the equation correctly at the start. This is really true.

Secondly I aim to work on topic-specific skills. I have customised worksheets (written by me) that include fake exam questions for most topics. For example, for C1, C2, C3 and C4 exams I have a set of questions for every topic that are not the same as previous questions in past papers... this is a significant advantage for my students as I have tried to anticipate likely questions that may come up that the examiners have not set in previous years.

Thirdly I will coach the individual student to better use their natural ability. This may mean boosting their confidence... it often (bizarrely) means lowering their confidence in their first answer (but increasing their understanding of how real mathematicians work) so they better double-check their answers as they go through and lose less marks in the exam. It may also mean developing memory tricks for key facts, approaches to understanding questions and some really nifty tricks for how to spot what the examiner is after.

Personal Description:
I am an MBBS doctor and have worked at St Georges Medical University of London. I am a trained PBL / CBL tutor and conducted tutorials at this university. I have completed my Diploma in Proofreading from NCC college of learning and work as a proofreader aswell.

I am interested in teaching profession. I have almost seven year experience of private and online tuitions of Biology, Combined Science to the students of GCSE and GCE and Anatomy to the students of MBBS.

I am very passionate about teaching. My teaching techniques differ with students. I know how to help weak students by giving small assessments. However, I don't believe in passive Learning, I want my students to be Active learner. So, my lesson is not based on just explaining topics but, I make sure that students understand that and do some work their-self.

I do different kind of topic based activities which enhance student's confidence and they can write their answers in more depth. Moreover, revision sessions are the prime importance of my lesson. I do believe, if students act according to my suggestions, the way I guide them, they will get high scores.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Biology to GCSE and College level students in groups and individuals. From 1997-continue. I am aware of all exam board (AQA, OCR & EDEXCEL)

I do Problem and Case base learning at St Georges University of London (First, Second & T year)

I have taught Biology to AS/A2 level student in May-June 2009 - continue

I have taught Pediatrics, Obstetrics to a student of imperial college through face to face in 2009- continue.

I have good experience of teaching and supervising OSCE and have taught this to student of st Georges University of London in Feb-June 2009.

I have taught Pathology to a student of US Via correspondence in 2009.

I have interest & experience of teaching in the following areas;
GCSE, AS / A2 (GCE) levels, Physical Education (Academic side) & IB:
Biology
Combined Science
Applied Science

MBBS, Nursing, and Physiotherapy Degree Levels:
Medicine
Gynecology /Obstetrics
Pediatrics
Anatomy
Pathology
Physiology
Microbiology
Pharmacology
Forensics

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I elicit response that demonstrates understanding. During teaching I create the space for students to learn. For Instance, the art of my teaching is to ask students to demonstrate what they already know about the topic because it helps students in building their understanding based on their knowledge.

I can teach either face to face or through correspondence and I give students time to learn at their own pace. I always ensure that students have displayed their understandings to me. I am approachable and friendly so students can pay attention and feel they can ask question.

In addition, I also provide small assessments to assess the outcome of my teaching and student's understanding and their performance

I help my students in several forms. The most common of which are:
Preparing Notes and Handouts
Preparing Model Answers
Marking Work
Providing Mcqs for degree students
Helping in course work

Personal Description:
Following education at an ordinary comprehensive school, I graduated with a first-class masters degree from Magdalen College, Oxford. I was awarded a scholarship as an undergraduate for attaining excellent exam results. At school, I achieved the highest possible grade in all subjects I teach, including:

- Straight A's in Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-Level
- A in Chemistry at AS-Level
- A*'s in all subjects I tutor at GCSE-Level

I now have over 3 years experience as a part-time academic tutor with fantastic results (see testimonials).
Outside of tutoring, I have a great passion for cars: I built a classic Fiat 500 and a kitcar (which I still use today!). In 2011, I spent a summer working for the McLaren F1 team.

For your peace of mind, I have an Enhanced DBS check and am happy to bring along my certificate to our first meeting.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 3 years experience in tutoring maths and science at the following levels:

KS2: Maths (I am experienced in tutoring at this level and have written the class material for a well respected private company)
KS3: Maths/Science
GCSE: Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology
A-Level: Maths, Further Maths, Physics

Tutoring Approach:

There are two key aspects to achieving in academia: learning techniques to pass exams and having a genuine interest in the subject. I believe that I can help with both.

By ensuring that I am well prepared for each lesson, I aim to simplify parts of the syllabus that the student is finding difficult and if necessary, teach in a number of different ways to aid understanding. I can help produce a revision plan for those students who are taking exams to ensure that all the material is covered in time.

The subjects I teach are fascinating, they just need to be taught in the right way. The school curriculum can appear a little dull at times but I hope that with the experience I have gained in a number of interesting environments, including working with the McLaren F1 team and in running my own electronics business where maths and science were essential, I can bring subjects to life in a way that shows their real value.

One of the great joys of tutoring is that every student is different - I love tailoring my approach to get the best out of every tutee.

Personal Description:
A highly effective teacher; experienced, well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, with good sense of humour.

I establish rapport with my students. In my long career in teaching, I have learned how to make the most complex concepts in science 'digestible'. My motto is: 'Excellence in Education'.

I am a member of Pi Lambda Theta (International Honour Society for Educators).

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Teacher / Lecturer, and have taught Biology and Chemistry for over thirty years in Secondary, and Further/Higher Education in the US, the EU, and the UK. I have taught the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and the International Baccalaureate specifications.

In addition to teaching students, I have trained teachers, as well.

Tutoring Approach:

While my Bachelor's Degree is in Biology and Chemistry, my Master's Degree is in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, which means I have trained in designing and delivering effective lesson plans, as well as a complete curriculum. I design my instruction taking into account the student's learning style. The 'one size fits all' type of teaching is responsible for the failure of many students. Every student can learn and can do well, provided the teaching style accommodates the student's learning style, and there are no 'gaps' in what is prerequisite knowledge for taking a certain course.

Knowledge builds on pre-existing knowledge. I make certain that my students really understand and appreciate that. I diagnose any 'gaps' in content knowledge that my students may have, and I 'fill' them, providing a solid foundation for my students to build on.

Study skills, which figure prominently in my teaching, and exam technique, along with a well-rounded, in-depth knowledge of content, provide the key to success.

At the end of the course, my students not only do they have what they need to tackle the Biology or Chemistry Exam, but also a wealth of learning skills which they can apply to other subjects as well, and which they will find essential in all their future academic studies.

Educational technology supplements my instruction. The content in every session is presented on PowerPoint with quality images. I clarify every point and make certain my student has 'grasped' the present concept before I proceed with the next. Where appropriate, the PPT presentation is followed by a brief video which makes the content 'come alive'. My PowerPoint presentations, as well as my notes on PDF or Word files are available for my students after the lesson.

I finish the lesson practicing exam - style questions. It goes without saying that regular revision is important, and I provide my students with lots of past exam papers.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am a Biomedical Sciences graduate and am currently studying at Imperial College London for my Masters in Reproductive and Developmental Biology with the hopes of starting my PhD next year.

I live in Hertfordshire but commute, by driving, daily to Hammersmith Hospital to study.

I am the oldest of 3, with my youngest sibling being 11 years.

I am very approachable, enthusiastic with a love for my subject. Ideally I would suit a child in their GCSE's or A Levels who needs support with information which is out of grasp for parents.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring children locally; family and friends.

This summer I worked at a residential for children aged 13 - 17 years.

And, I have run a group on Fridays for children on/off for 5 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I honestly believe the best way to get across to children is by using analogies and diagrams. With my sister I try always to relate the subject we are going over to something she would understand, whether that may be her favourite band, or clothing, or a sport.

I teach biology and so much of biology is new information, unlike english and maths you aren't building on knowledge so it must be kept interesting.

I also believe that practice papers are the best way to learn. I don't believe that practice makes perfect, I believe perfect practice makes perfection and if you know how to answer a question, how to pick apart the question and know what the examiner is looking for then you are half way there.

Personal Description:
Phd Chemistry graduate, Current A level Chemistry teacher and Edexcel examiner

I have always enjoyed science from an early age. This is what led me to study for a PhD in Chemistry. This enthusiasm for science definitely comes across in my teaching because I think it is the first step in engaging and enthusing pupils about science.

I am a calm and patient teacher. My belief is that there is no such thing as someone who can't do science. Only that the right approach has not been found yet.

Teaching Experience:

Over 4 years tutoring and teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

Generally, in the first session I aim to find out what exactly the pupil is struggling with. Subsequent sessions can then be tailored to fit these needs. This will involve lots of practice on the problem areas so that the pupil becomes comfortable with it.

In addition to this, I can also teach both numeracy and literacy at primary school level. I am married and I am possibly looking to do PGCE to go into teaching in a school/college later on. I have moved recently to Bradford from London and am new to the area. I have my own transport to travel to any potential tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have around 10 months of self-employed tutoring experience. I did tutor a fellow class student in A-level maths for a short period of time to improve his understanding of maths, especially pure maths. I also taught chemistry to university students in a university in Poland and was able to help about 70% to 80% of the whole year of first year medical students pass this subject. I provided them out of hours classes to help with certain difficult provided and even provided my own version of written revision notes to help prepare for the exam.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to help the student understand the topic by giving examples and showing solutions with in-depth explanations in simple terms so that the student can understand. I even give the student example questions to try out to make sure they understand the methods or factual knowledge. I believe that a student can only be fully prepared for an exam by attempting past exam papers.

Personal Description:
I have 10 years experience of teaching and tutoring at all levels up to university (lecturer for 5 years) and have all 5 star feedback. My tutees get great results (93% As and A*s this year) and most importantly, show outstanding improvements in both understanding and confidence.

I am really passionate about science and teaching: during my academic career, I have been fortunate enough to have plenty of opportunities to combine the two at a variety of levels. I come from a very large family and have been involved in work with children from a young age - from riding instructor to homework 'buddy' and in the last 10 years tutoring and teaching. I love the moment that you see the light of understanding come on in the person that you are working with - I got into science for these moments myself and to be honest, it's almost as rewarding to see them in someone else! It is particularly exciting when you see someone go from frustration to 'getting it'.

I'm extremely patient, calm and focused. I work best with individuals or small groups of 2-3 students.

Teaching Experience:

All exam boards plus IB
GSCE: This year's students achieved cracking results in biology, chemistry, maths, physics and geography. Almost all As and A*s - I was very proud of them!
A-level:
Again, almost all As in biology and chemistry. Most came to me with predicted Ds so we were all delighted with the results.
Primary level:
My own children were partially home-schooled so I have copious experience there!
11-14:
I currently tutor in maths and science, I used to run a weekend biology group for adolescents and have taught English as a secondary language at this level
University level:
Range of subjects including biology, biochemistry, nutrition, aquaculture, fisheries economics, thermodynamic engineering

Tutoring Approach:

The foundation of my approach is to building confidence and enthusiasm in my pupils. I use a combination of exam questions and structured sessions. This allows the student to become familiar and comfortable with the format of questions, and to more easily identify what the examiner is asking. It also allows me to focus the effort on where there are gaps in the knowledge or understanding.
I am extremely patient & able to come up with new and innovative ways to help my students overcome whatever problems they experience in the subjects I teach. I like to see the students put in some effort because I think the best results are achieved that way but I am always supportive.

Personal Description:
I am currently training to become a Primary School teacher. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, this combined with my previous work experience means I'm vastly knowledgeable about how children learn (including those with SEN).

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in primary schools as a 1:1 since the first year of university (2012). I then completed my degree in Psychology and enrolled on a School Direct course (Primary PGCE with QTS). I therefore have experience teaching children with SEN and children aged 5-11.
I have good use and experience of Makaton.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best approach to any kind of tutoring is one that is tailored to the person. This as well as a good relationship is what I feel produces the best results.

Personal Description:
My name is Ian and I would be a female tutor. I was born in Malaysia and I have travelled to New Zealand and Australia for academic and research purposes. I have recently passed my PhD Viva and currently preparing for a major move to Orkney Islands. Even though English is not my first language, I have a great understanding in the subject of Organic Chemistry, I have ample tips for studying chemistry along side with basic knowledge in Math.

Teaching Experience:

I was a Campus Coach during my academic years in New Zealand. I would help 1st and 2nd year university students from our science department with their studies. This include giving them motivation to learn, tips for note-taking, managing time meeting all kind of assignments, giving advice on who they should approach for more academic and social help.

Recently, I was a lab demonstrator and Chemistry tutor during my academic year at University of Glasgow. I assisted students in the safe execution of the experiment, safe and proper operation and handling of lab equipment, chemicals and glassware. I was actively engaged with the students in discussions about the experiment. I also collected and grade pre-lab assignments in a timely manner, enter grades in record book, and circulate to give individual feedback to students. In addition, I was responsible for reporting any problems/incidents/inconsistencies immediately to the instructor and replenish/prepare any chemicals or supplies if asked upon with help from the technicians. I had the first-hand experience as a marker of assignments and lab reports, so I will know what to expect from a good to excellent answers to given questions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique.

Feel free to drop me a line if you need help with your homework. If there is any single topic of Chemistry you need some clarification and understanding, don't delay!

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a GB skeleton athlete currently on a sabbatical from my job as an exercise physiologist. My expertise is in sport science, specialising in physiology which I have a MSc degree from Loughborough University. I am living in Bath again (I did my first degree here) in order to train full-time for skeleton, with the goal being to compete at the Olympic Games in 2022.

I have plenty of ambition, drive and determination and love to inspire people to work hard to achieve their goals. So far I have achieved all the goals I set for myself since school e.g. studying at university, working in elite sport.

I studied maths, english, science, history, geography, P.E., textiles and French for GCSE and got A and A* grades. At A level I studied biology,P.E. and history and received AAB respectively. I have a upper second class honours BSc in sport and exercise science from The University of Bath and a first class MSc in exercise physiology.

Teaching Experience:

I was a class tutor at Loughborough College for three months after graduating from Loughborough University. This involved working closely with pupils to assist them with their school work across a number of subjects at GCSE level.

Part of my role as a sport scientist was to educate athletes on a number of subjects which would improve their performance. This involved constructing and delivering presentations to groups of adults as well as GCSE/A level students. I also regularly worked on a one to one basis to educate athletes on ways they can improve their performance. In both instances I always use examples to demonstrate the point I am making and improve understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a supportive tutor, who encourages students to find the solutions to their problems. I aim to facilitate learning, not spoon feed. I'm also keen to focus on the bigger picture in order to motivate students, for example reminding them that the work is important so they can pass their exams to get into university. I find having a goal is a strong motivator and also the practise of setting goals puts students in good stead for the future.

I take a kind and patient approach to tutoring. I like to encourage students to adopt a growth mindset whereby they do not fear failure and value hard work and effort.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a person that gets along with everyone and am quite easy going. I am friendly and bubbly and I like to make teaching fun and interesting for everyone.
I have a BSc in Marine Biology and a Masters' degree also in Marine Biology.
I love teaching and helping people who need some extra input or guidance with their studies, this is something I do naturally.
I currently work as a Science support assistant at Dartmouth Academy and help students all through secondary from year 7 to 11.
My previous profession was Marine Biology, I studied in Portugal, Spain and Wales. I lived in Portugal for 10 years and speak, read and write Portuguese fluently. I am also half Spanish and lived in the Canary islands for 6 months.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is quite varied. I first started tutoring as a Secondary (yrs10,11 and 12) English tutor in Portugal. My first job after completing my BSc degree was to be the principal marine biologist at a whaling museum where I gave lectures to children (ages 6 to 16) about the ocean and marine wildlife. I then decided to take my Masters' degree and moved to Wales. After that, I decided to become a teacher and get teaching experience in a school. I have been working at Dartmouth Academy from September 2016 to present and I support students and help the science teachers with lesson planning and small recap exercises. Additionally, I have substituted some science lessons and am now working towards becoming a Science teacher.
So far, I am enjoying the experience very much and am also getting very positive feedback from all my students. I have been told that I am nice and that I explain things very well.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to be a support to the tutee. I am quite flexible and can arrange to meet with you where most convenient, being your house or a library or other public space.
I work together with the tutee and create a tutoring plan. I will sit down with you in our first session and make a 3 to 4 session plan to got though the subject chosen for tutoring. We will decided which sections of your work you are most and least confident with and work through them in a logical order. I will ask you to bring all your learning materials and will look through what you have already covered and what you still need to cover. I will then ask you which areas you would mostly like to address and start from then.
After covering the work I will give you some past paper questions to do and we can then see how you get on and what else may need to be worked on.
Your tutor sessions with me are for your benefit and so I will listen to you requests and needs and work with you to achieve the highest level of learning to your abilities initially and then push you a little to see how well you can perform.

Personal Description:
Hi,

My name is Omar and I am a first-year University student studying at Queen Mary University of London. I am studying Mathematics and Computer Science and I am on track for a first class. I am 20 years old and have a lot of experience in tuition despite my age. After achieving AAA in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A level, I am pursuing one of my strongest passions, Mathematics. My plan is to become a software engineer alongside being a part-time tutor. I feel that my USP when it comes to tuition is my age. I am able to connect with the students more as I was in their position not so long ago! I am also more up to date with the current specifications and so the tuition I offer is very direct.

Teaching Experience:

Since I started 6th form I have had many private tutors. These students were mainly found through networking and through asking around my local community. However, I have also found students through tuition recruitment websites.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition relies heavily upon exam technique. My goal as a tutor is to get the student the highest grade in the exam, and this is my only priority.
