Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher in Secondary School Science and also a chemist with a German Diplom in Chemistry (equivalent to MSc). During my training as a scientist I studied organic, inorganic, physical, food- and biochemistry as well as maths, physics and toxicology. I currently work as a part-time teacher of science in a secondary school and also tutor GCSE and A- level students in German and Science on a one-to-one basis. I would appreciate the opportunity to use my experience and knowledge to enthuse other people for my subject and mother tongue and to help them achieve their qualifications.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a Secondary School Science teacher and obtained my PGCE from the University of East Anglia in July 2007. During my training I gained a lot of experience in various school settings, teaching students on a one-to-one basis as well as in small groups and large classes. I learned to use various teaching approaches to suit different types of learners and also obtained experience with Special Needs Children.
Since then I have tutored a large variety of students ranging from complete beginner to university candidates, helping them to boost their confidence and grades as well as prepare for exams and interviews.

Tutoring Approach:

Rather than using school-type teaching to repeat what has already been heard during lesson I like to explore and identify the areas of strengths and weaknesses of each student and develop a method to improve learning strategies involving a variety of exercises. My aim is to boost the confidence of each learner and equip them with tools to analyse the tasks ahead and solve problems.
It is important to create exciting, stimulating and challenging exercises based on sound theory and facts to gain the learners interest in the subject and motivate them to explore further.

Personal Description:
An interest in scientific research and contemporary problems in Biology lead to me to pursue an honours degree in Biology, with an emphasis on the molecular cell aspect and often held a heavy Chemistry or Physics component. I studied at the University of York and by my third year I had a profound interest in both the molecular component of Cancer and Neuro-degeneration, my dissertation used Drosophila as a way of determining whether the peripheral nervous system was essential for wound healing.

A keen interest in research was only greater enthused with an opportunity to spend four months at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in Germany, this provided me with an excellent opportunity to understand and relate my scientific knowledge with research that was being undertaken. Working alongside some of the most respected experts in the field was an opportunity I still value as I gained experience in the structure of Scientific research.

Teaching Experience:

As the oldest sibling I have experience in tutoring younger siblings at GCSE and A-Level subjects.

After my degree in biology I undertook a Secondary PGCE in Science at Durham University. I am also currently studying for an MA in Education at Durham University.

I am currently a Science Teacher at the local secondary school and teach KS3, KS4 and KS5 Sciences.

Tutoring Approach:

Before I begin tutoring I will try and locate any misconceptions that the pupil may have and go from there. I will ask the pupil to identify areas of difficulty (or pin point them myself) and break down the work to a basic level before building it back up again. I will ensure there are a diverse range of resources prepared before each tutoring session.

Personal Description:
I began tutoring during my Philosophy of Science MSc at the London School of Economics. Subsequently I decided to pursue a career in science and began to train as a geologist at Birkbeck College, University of London in a 4-year degree program while continuing to work as a tutor. Over the course of the last 3 years my teaching career gained momentum and I made the decision to pause my second degree to focus on teaching.

Teaching Experience:

Since graduating I have gained thousands of hours of tutoring experience over a period of 4 years. While I specialise in teaching maths at 11+, 13+ and GCSE level, I also have a wealth of experience in teaching sciences (13+, GCSE), maths (A-level), English (11+, 13+, GCSE, A-level) and philosophy (A-level and degree level). Alongside my independent work I am a senior tutor at three high end London tuition agencies.*

I have successfully prepared students for entry into a wide range of schools including Bancroft, Channing, City of London, Eton, Forest, Francis Holland, Godolphin and Latymer School, Haberdashers', Highgate, North London Collegiate School, Queen's College, Sevenoaks, South Hampstead, St. Paul's and UCS.

I have worked as an assessor for a London tuition agency since 2010. I conduct assessments which potential tutors must pass before they are allowed to work for the agency. Assessing other tutors has given me excellent insights as to how to improve my own teaching.

*I am not permitted to name these here, but I can provide references once contact details are exchanged.

Tutoring Approach:

The key to my approach is keeping the student's mind as active as possible. My lessons are extremely questions-based and seek to guide a student to explore concepts rather than merely deposit information. Since this approach requires more engagement from the pupil, the material is better retained and more thoroughly understood.

I find the science of memory fascinating and have carefully researched and tested various memory techniques that I now find invaluable during my lessons. The luxury of one-to-one tuition is that each lesson can be perfectly tailored to the individual student. Over the first few sessions, I determine how the pupil best absorbs information and what teaching style they find the most engaging. The result is highly efficient learning which generally manages to be good fun as well.

Outside of classes I am happy to answer emailed questions and to mark small amounts of homework free of charge. Detailed proof reading and feedback for coursework assignments for those I do not regularly teach is charged at my hourly rate. Group sessions are available the charge is 50% of the normal fee for each additional student.

Personal Description:
Hello! I am 37 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 12 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I am now working for an independent school in the Rochdale area and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level, and other subjects I currently teach include Maths up to GCSE level and English up to Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

Personal Description:
I`m a fourth year medical student currently studying at Imperial College. I studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) for my sixth form, but have a lot of experience of teaching the A-level curriculum as well.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years of experience in one-to-one tutoring both biology and chemistry, for GCSE, A-level as well as for IB-students. I also teach GCSE maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I`m a very cheerful and enthusiastic person - and I like to think I know how to motivate people to pushing their boundaries and challenging themselves. The students I`ve taught previously have all succeeded very well in their exams, and often commented that I explained the concepts to them better than their own teachers. I think my commitment and passion to teaching in the past makes me a good candidate to teach the subjects I`ve specified.

Personal Description:
I am a keen all round biologist with a particular interest in genetics. I conducted my PhD research at the University of Birmingham, which was focused on the genetic basis of Wolfram Syndrome, a rare inherited neurodegenerative disease.

Following completion of my research I moved to Aberdeenshire and am currently working flexibly from home, whilst dedicating my spare time to the study of canine behaviour and training.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst new to home tutoring I have gained experience during my time at university tutoring undergraduates and mentoring research students in the laboratory. I have previous experience working as a classroom assistant to children with special educational needs and have also participated in the Student Associate Scheme in England, working on placement in the Science Dept. of Camborne School with secondary and post-16 students.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an informal but organised approach to tutoring with the aim of providing a comfortable and non-pressured learning environment, where students feel able and encouraged to ask questions and build confidence at a pace that is comfortable for them.

Personal Description:
Graduate of accounts and economics, with other main subjects -- english, geography, business studies.
Very passionate about imparting education, specialize in teaching english, maths (algebra and geometry), biology, chemistry at all levels upto gcse.
Significant knowledge of teaching 11+ entrance exams which are verbal and non verbal reasoning.
Expertise in business studies projects, anthology (comparisons of literature and poems)

Parents have certified my teaching skills and most of my tutees having bagged A grades, have progressed in the most prominent universities.

I believe in going more than an extra mile to encourage children.

THEIR ACHIEVEMENT IS MY SUCCESS.

Teaching Experience:

More than 19 years teaching both the primary and secondary pupils.

Have taught in various schools, both private and state maintained, tutored privately to pupils from various multi cultural backgrounds. Worked as a Teaching Assistant in special needs schools.

A vast knowledge of 11+ entrance exams which means teaching verbal and non verbal reasoning power. Many have mastered the art of solving maths in a minute whether equations, fractions, algebra or mental maths.

English is tutored by me which includes preparing students for GCSEs exams -- which means imparting fluent writing skills, cambridge grammar, character sketch, Shakespeare's work, Literature and Anthology (comparing poems) and helping with course work.

Students have successfully mastered interview skills through me, and gained foot hold in private schools without any tensions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is completely different : I believe all children are blessed, and as a tutor, my success lies in tapping their potential by changing their weaknesses into strengths.

This means, I am very patient, punctual, consistent and professional.

Motivation, inspiration, appreciation and constant appraisals are the key to capture the minds of children.

Children have learnt to calculate maths without the use of calculators, thereby using their brain power, solving mentally, and being faster.

Practice makes a man perfect ----- I give pupils thorough practice and past papers to solve, before sitting for the exams.
Further, I also teach them how to attempt exam questions, how to check their maths answers and succeed with confidence.

I also mark their printed text books used in schools, making lessons easier to understand, highlighting questions and answers, give reasons, fill in the gaps, true or false etc. that appear in their exam papers. This makes learning, memorizing and preparation for exams very very simple without tensions.

STUDENTS COMING TO MY PLACE FOR LESSONS IS PREFERABLE.....HOWEVER........
HOME VISITS ARE ALSO UNDERTAKEN AT AN EXTRA TRAVEL SUPPLEMENT.

Personal Description:
I have been working as a Neuroscience researcher for the past 8 years at the National Institute for Medical Research in London. Before that, I did a PhD in Molecular Oncology with the University of London, working in a Cancer Research UK lab. Overall, I have more than 10 years experience as a scientist using Molecular Biology to approach different fields of Medical Research.
I speak portuguese, french and spanish in addition to english. I also play the piano and practise different sports, mainly Capoeira (a brazilian fight/dance). I am also a keen amateur chef. Overall, I really enjoy learning new things and being a student as much as a teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring when I was a Biochemistry undergraduate student. I worked with students from primary to A-levels and University helping them with Chemistry, Science, Biology and Biochemistry. Just as I was finishing my degree I became a junior assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine, conducting practical Biochemistry lessons for first year Medicine students.
In the UK I have tutored Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and A level for students under different exam boards. I have done both specific, intensive preparation for exams and long-term tutoring aimed at improving the base knowledge on the subject and creating study methods that will allow the student to become independent and efficient.
As part of my research work I also regularly train younger scientists and PhD students, as well as undergraduate placement students.

Tutoring Approach:

On my first tutoring session with a new student we start by identifying what are the main challenges, what is the overall goal and how to break it into progressive manageable steps. We then establish timelines and start working! As work starts we constantly reassess problems and progress. Each lesson usually starts with a brief review and discussion where I lead to student to reflect about the importance understanding a particular subject and how it connects to our daily lives. The student will be asking and answering questions, working through examples and using schematic representations to consolidate knowledge. Progress is ultimately measured by the student's ability to explain what has been learned with enough detail and clarity to inform someone new to the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a very experienced Science teacher with Biology being my primary specialism. I have excellent subject knowledge and have experience of working with specifications offered by AQA, Edexcel, OCR and CIE.

I am enthusiastic, clear thinking and an effective communicator. I have a track record of success in enabling students of all ability levels to achieve their academic potential.

As an experienced examiner, I have a very good understanding of exam techniques and of the misconceptions that sometimes arise in my subject.

I am currently dividing my time between private tuition with the establishment of my own animal education business.

Teaching Experience:

I have 20 years of successful teaching experience in secondary schools in the UK and overseas. For the last 14 years I also have had responsibility for the management of Biology teaching in my schools and for the last 8 years I have been Head of the Science departments in which I have worked. My own teaching has been rated as outstanding by OFSTED.

I am also currently a Biology examiner for two of the exam boards.

Tutoring Approach:

At the start of a tuition contract I will spend time listening to the client to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. Based on this assessment of needs we would then develop a learning plan which seeks to address areas of relative weakness. As we work through the plan it will be regularly reviewed to reflect progress so far.

In addition to providing direct instruction I can also provide clients with customised resources to work on independently and recommendations for other resources that will further support learning.

As the time for public examinations approaches we would focus more and more on past paper questions and exam technique.

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old Austrlian Teacher with a passion for nature and wildlife. I have experience with tutoring students in Australia and I absolutely love working 1 on 1 with students to help them achieve their personal learning goals.

Teaching Experience:

I am a KS3 and KS4 teacher, trained in Australia. I have 1 years teaching experience in Australia and have been working as a KS3 and 4 Science/ Maths teacher for the last 18 months in England. In the year next academic year 2014 - 2015 I will be teaching only mathematics, but am still able and interesting in tutoring GCSE science.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is essential to the success of a tutee to first pin-point which particular issues they believe are stopping them from achieving their target grades. From their, I can work with the tutees and their parents on long term success strategies, whether it be revising concepts from previous key stages which were not fully developed, understanding teachers' feedback, or overcoming low literacy skills. This process will help tutees become more self-reliant learners, in turn giving them confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Personal Description:
I am a second year medical student at UCL and passed first year with a Merit. The subjects I took for AS level were Chemistry,Biology,Maths and Economics and I achieved 4As, scoring over 90% in each. I took Chemistry, Biology and Maths for A level and achieved an A* in each, gaining 100% in chemistry and biology. I am very confident in teaching all 3 subjects up to and including A-level at a high standard.

Teaching Experience:

I mentored younger boys for chemistry for 2 years at school and other family members. I have recently taken my A levels and achieved high grades so the information is still fresh in my mind. I can pass on learning styles I have developed to achieve high grades.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I will determine the level of knowledge my student has and from there I will draw up a teaching plan with them. It is important to ask students if they have particular areas of the syllabus which they struggle with, in order to concentrate on these areas in particular. I will ensure that my student has a good grounding knowledge which we can build on in subsequent lessons. I am a firm believer in using the syllabus whilst learning as it provides the core knowledge of the exams.

Personal Description:
I am an Imperial College graduate in Biomedical Engineering (masters).
I was born in Italy from Italian parents, but have lived in the UK since I was 6 years old (I'm perfectly bilingual). I attended the European School in Culham, near Oxford, before moving to London for university.
I am a friendly and outgoing person, when I'm not busy with uni work I like to be in the company of friends, enjoy cinema, live music and playing/watching sports, particularly football and squash.

Teaching Experience:

Over my first two years at university, I helped some As and A-level students from my old school, especially during their exam period (i.e.: one on one revision sessions, helping out with coursework and writing sets of revision notes) in Maths, Biology and Physics.
Early in 2011 I joined the Blue Tutors agency, where my teaching skills were assessed and received full accreditation.
In October 2013 I did weekly one-on-one GCSE maths lessons for the month leading up to an exam. As well as the lessons I made revision notes for the student, whose mark increased from C- to B.
From January to April 2014 I was Project Coordinator and voluntary teacher in weekly extra curricular activity "Code Club", a basic computer programming workshop at Pimlico Academy. Generally about a dozen 13-14 year old students attended.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is generally quite friendly: I believe that at a subconscious level, a student will be much more inclined to listen to and learn from a person they trust and appreciate. However, I also believe the teaching style must be suited to the student, and largely depends on the subject being taught.
A particular technique which I have learnt from Blue Tutors and have tried to implement ever since, is to try and lead the student to the answer by asking the right questions, rather than just giving him the answer.

Personal Description:
An enthusiastic, inspiring tutor with a PhD in Physics.

I have a long history with Imperial College London where I have studied and worked since my undergraduate degree. I worked in the Theoretical Physics group for six months as a Research Assistant after being awarded a PhD in Physics, studying Observational Cosmology. Prior to this, I was awarded an MSci in Physics with Theoretical Physics (First Class honours). During my PhD, I worked part time as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Maths, Physics and Computing courses.

I am an enthusiastic tutor with a love for Physics and Maths. I am passionate about education and sharing knowledge with my students - I will soon be starting a secondary teacher training course for which I have been awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Institute of Physics.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I have volunteered at a Homework Club in Earls Court for disadvantaged 8-16 year old children, which was extremely rewarding. I worked on Maths and Science homework once a week for several months.

I also volunteered as an A-level maths and physics tutor in a mixed sixth form at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School through the Pimlico Connection volunteering scheme at Imperial College. I tutored small groups of one or two students for a couple of hours a week for five months.

I was employed as a part time undergraduate teaching assistant at Imperial College throughout the three and a half years of my PhD. I assisted staff in teaching maths, physics and computing courses. This included assisting students with problem sheets, supervising project work, marking reports and giving students individual feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to develop a problem solving approach, showing you how to approach problems so that you can apply existing knowledge to new examples. I think that a tutor should demonstrate a passion for their subject and be able to excite others about it.

I have a knowledge of the National Curriculum and am familiar with the GCSE and A-level specifications.
