Personal Description:
I've recently qualified as a secondary science teacher with psychology from the University of Exeter. I now work in a secondary college in London teaching science, maths and psychology. I previously graduated from the University of Leeds with a Bsc in psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified secondary teacher. I have spent a year teaching primary english in France. I have taught karate and tennis to children. I have volunteered at an after school programme in Leeds teaching basic numercay and literacy. I was also a mentor for first year students when in my final year at university.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not have a set approach. I will tailor my tutoring around the tutees needs as I am aware everyone learns differently. Some people learn better from visual explantions therefore in this situation if I was teaching for example photosynthesis, I would perhaps use a plant, some water, a lamp to demonstrate this process simply.

Personal Description:
I am 56 and spent 25 years working in the Offshore industry. I have decided to make tutoring my main vocation as it is something I enjoy doing.

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved in education as a course Supervisor for over 5 years running life improvement courses at a centre in Tunbridge Wells and have recently completed a Repairing Phonics and Reading course with Applied Scholastics. Tutoring Approach:

In any subject where a student is having trouble there is something that they didn't understand just before they found it difficult. I work with them to find what they didn't understand and clear it up with them. Then I work with them so that they can achieve the standard they wish.

I endeavour to make learning both informative and enjoyable. See below a summary on my general approach:

Focus on any identified areas of weakness and build on strengths.
Adopt teaching method to suit student's learning style.
Facilitate learning; encourage students to use own ideas to solve problems.
Teach by principle; use lots of analogies/metaphors to explain concepts.
Assess progress using exercise workbooks and other test assessments.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Philosophy from UCL, and am going to begin a teacher training course (PGCE) in September 2013.

I studied the International Baccalaureate in my final two years at school, and so understand the difficulties of balancing all your subjects- particularly when it comes to tackling the tricky bits.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 3 years now, and have 6 pupils ranging from 7-16 years old. I have also worked as a teaching assistant in both mainstream settings and a Pupil Referral Unit.

I hold up to date Enhance DRB and DBS checks.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that good teaching is integral to students' learning. Having been a student recently, I am all too familiar with being in the situation where a teacher may be intelligent and passionate about their subject, but are not able to communicate and engage with students. I believe that engaging with the student and their method of learning is key to the student understanding the work.

In tutoring and I use constant encouragement and affirmation to support young people in their learning. I find this is particularly important when young learners have had difficult prior experiences of school. I use encouragement and constant reassurance to facilitate a greater understanding of each topic. In addition I find that it is crucial, especially with younger children to teach interactively and to make sure that they are actively participating in each task.

I strongly believe that, were possible, teaching should be about making things as simple as possible- and I have found that this is particularly important with children and young people who may find class work challenging. I have been able to do this through using drawings, diagrams and real life examples to engage young learners' interests. For example, I always teach fractions by referring back to the concept of cutting up a cake, and linking this to the function of the numerator and denominator.

Personal Description:
I have a BSc in Psychology from Leeds University, graded 2:1, an MSc from Bristol University in Nutrition and Public Health, graded distinction, and an Mphil form Cambridge in Public Health graded distinction. I am currently working on my PhD in Public Health, based in Cambridge.

Prior to this, I studied A levels in Biology, Psychology and English Literature, and AS levels in Geography and Photography, all graded A. I am looking to tutor any subject related to these areas, including A-level and undergraduate.

Teaching Experience:

some tutoring experience and I have spent a number of years both learning and working in an academic environment, which required working within groups of fellow students, completing learning activities, developing presentations and explaining concepts to those requiring further insight.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I learn best by attempting to understand a concept fully and by placing it in a relevant context, rather than by learning off by heart. I would hope to help a tutee learn by these methods. I think that learning the context and relevance of a concept can make a subject more interesting, and hence more memorable.

I also find breaking down work into manageable chunks and using various techniques (colour coding, acronyms etc.) can assist memory, and my background in Psychology means I have some understanding of how to apply these.

Personal Description:
I am currently a fourth year medical student at Addenbrookes Hospital and Queens' college, Cambridge. I achieved a first class in my second year coming 39th out of 340 students. I graduated last year with a BA Cantab. I offer tutoring in Biology and Physics up to A-Level / Advanced Higher level and Chemistry and Maths to GCSE. I live in Cambridge and have my own transport. My own academic interests are in Pathology and Physiology. During the summer of 2012 I will be involved in a UCL project looking at genetic adaptation involved in pregnancy at altitude in Nepal. I am very enthusiastic and enjoy teaching, so that I can pass on some of my enthusiasm and knowledge to others so that they can succeed. I have always been dedicated to achieving high academic goals and am very approachable and friendly.

I am available during my university holidays:
2012-13 Summer: -------> 2 Oct
Christmas: 30 Nov 15 Jan
Easter: 15 Mar 23 Apr
Summer: 14 Jun ------->

2013-14 Summer: -------> 8 Oct
Christmas: 6 Dec 14 Jan
Easter: 14 Mar 22 Apr
Summer: 13 Jun ------->

Teaching Experience:

Last year I tutored 5 different students at GCSE level in science and maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to:
1.) Inspire my students to set high academic goals and to achieve them.
2.) Provide high quality teaching in a way that makes the subject matter interesting.
3.) Give guidance on learning and revision techniques in order to instill confidence and discipline in studying.

In more detail:
1.) I believe that, given a stimulating learning environment, a disciplined approach to learning and exam preparation and confidence in one's abilities, most students reading science courses should be able to attain goals that may seem challenging at first. Having recently experienced the sharp end of university application procedures I feel that I am also in a good position to offer advice and guidance on higher education applications (particularly medical applications), including interview preparation and personal statement advice.

2.) I aim to teach underlying concepts and principles as a priority. A basic grasp of these allows finer detail to be added on top and avoids the large amounts of learning by rote that is sometimes associated with science courses. I will also, wherever possible, try to extend students' interest beyond the syllabus, as enthusiasm for a subject is a huge step on the way towards academic success.

3.) Just as the understanding of science subjects requires good application of underlying themes, learning and revision can be greatly improved by a structured approach. I aim to pass on study skills that I have learnt myself as well as spend time, if a particular examination is forthcoming, focusing on exam technique.

Personal Description:
Recently I have decided to focus on teaching full time, preferring to work in the private tutition/coaching area because the personal satisfaction is higher.

I have a first class honours degree in chemistry from the University of Leicester, a DPhil from the University of Oxford and a PGCE [Chemistry] from Oxford.

I keep up to date with my subject through regular Continuing Professional Development activities including reading about the subject and attending seminars and courses.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.

Teaching Experience:

I was Head of Chemistry at Eton College [yes, the famous one!] for four years and taught part time students chemistry at the University of Northampton.

Since 1989 I have been an Associate Lecturer in chemistry with The Open University teaching part-time students by distance learning and at Summer Schools. I currently teach 2 Open University chemistry courses.

I have been coaching students in science and maths for over 30 years. Post-16 I have extensive specialist background in chemistry - for Edexcel, OCR and AQA at AS and A2, including Salters' A-level plus I have experience of the International Baccalaureate; and supporting vocational courses.

I have supported students in chemistry, biology, physics [as triple or double science, for the AQA, Edexcel and OCR syllabuses (including 21st Century science)] and maths at GCSE/IGCSE [IB or equivalent] for many years and in helping with Independent School entrance.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient, friendly and successful teacher specialising in chemistry at GCSE and A-level [and university level]. In addition I have extensive experience of tutoring science and mathematics to GCSE level. My experience covers helping students of all ages [from primary to adults] and from all backgrounds. I have a good sense of humour, am used to teaching on-line and in 1:1 situations. My approach is to boost a students` confidence in a relaxed environment resulting in greater success and self -belief which results in more enjoyment - and success - in the subjects being studied. Over the years I have successfully helped over 70 students to achieve success.

In-between sessions students can contact me by email or telephone for support with exam questions or school work at no extra charge rather than waiting until the next meeting.

Personal Description:
I graduated in 2011 from the University of Bath with a 2(i) BSc (Hons) degree in Natural Sciences- My major subjects were pharmacology and Biology but I also studied mathematics, organic chemsitry, environmental science and Science Eduaction as part of my course.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my time at University I was involved in mentoring schemes at local schools, this involved helping A level and GCSE students prepare for exams. I also observed Science lessons at a secondary school in Chippenham once a week as part of my "Science Education" Unit. I also private tutored an A level Chemistry Student once a week.

Since graduating I have been working in the Educational publishing sector and now write GCSE Biology and BTEC Applied Science resources for science teachers and students, including course companions, topic tests and practice examination questions. I therefore have a very sound knowledge of exam board syllabuses and know what is expected of pupils in exams. Published copies of my work can be previewed online on the ZigZag education website by following the link to their science resources.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and enthusiastic in my approach. I want my tutoring to inspire students, so that they find science as interesting as I do.

My approach is very much tailored to a students individual needs and learning style, for example kinaesthetic learners might benefit from the use of building 3D models in Chemistry to represent molecules, whereas visual learners require diagrams to help them understand.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Yasmin and I have just graduated from a BSc Hons Biology degree at the University of Nottingham with a 2.1. I consider myself to be a friendly, patient and understanding person, who will rarely give up on a challenge.

Teaching Experience:

I have done peer to peer teaching in my Secondary school where I would help other students at lunchtime or after school.
I have gained further experience in the past 2 years, since joining other tutoring agencies, by teaching Maths, Biology and Geography A levels and GCSE's, to various students on all different levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Obviously each person learns differently, so I would always account for that and tutor in a way that works best for that particular person. Past papers are a great way to prepare for exams so I will always go through model exam questions.

Personal Description:
4th year medical student. At Barts and the London school of medicine (Queen Mary university of London)
Also studying biomedical engineering at Imperial. (It`s a trial Imperial is trying with me as they were satisfied with my qualifications)

hold international Olympiad certificates for Math, Physics, and chemistry, and have received gold, silver, silver in them respectively

AS , A2 Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Persian All "A"s
AS Economics A

Teaching Experience:

Have taught Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology locally at AS and A2 Level.
Unfortunately this website doesn't allow me to link you to those whom i have taught. but i could get you in touch with them if you like to see how satisfied they are and to prove to you the managed to get an A quite easily.
Can teach further at biology as I am a medic.
Have taught English as well

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer making the student understand the concepts. Which is not something tutors do anymore.
I don't just make them memorize. you'd be surprised how much more you can retain when you understand the underlying concept.
If you forget something or a formula, you can work it out from what i have taught you.
it is an approach that all of my tutees have loved so far, and they all come back for the following years. haven't had a single tutee who hasn't been extremely satisfied and all of them were of course happy with the A grades they achieved.

Personal Description:
I have been working as a Neuroscience researcher for the past 8 years at the National Institute for Medical Research in London. Before that, I did a PhD in Molecular Oncology with the University of London, working in a Cancer Research UK lab. Overall, I have more than 10 years experience as a scientist using Molecular Biology to approach different fields of Medical Research.
I speak portuguese, french and spanish in addition to english. I also play the piano and practise different sports, mainly Capoeira (a brazilian fight/dance). I am also a keen amateur chef. Overall, I really enjoy learning new things and being a student as much as a teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring when I was a Biochemistry undergraduate student. I worked with students from primary to A-levels and University helping them with Chemistry, Science, Biology and Biochemistry. Just as I was finishing my degree I became a junior assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine, conducting practical Biochemistry lessons for first year Medicine students.
In the UK I have tutored Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and A level for students under different exam boards. I have done both specific, intensive preparation for exams and long-term tutoring aimed at improving the base knowledge on the subject and creating study methods that will allow the student to become independent and efficient.
As part of my research work I also regularly train younger scientists and PhD students, as well as undergraduate placement students.

Tutoring Approach:

On my first tutoring session with a new student we start by identifying what are the main challenges, what is the overall goal and how to break it into progressive manageable steps. We then establish timelines and start working! As work starts we constantly reassess problems and progress. Each lesson usually starts with a brief review and discussion where I lead to student to reflect about the importance understanding a particular subject and how it connects to our daily lives. The student will be asking and answering questions, working through examples and using schematic representations to consolidate knowledge. Progress is ultimately measured by the student's ability to explain what has been learned with enough detail and clarity to inform someone new to the subject.

Personal Description:
I am an engaging and approachable tutor who loves teaching and makes learning interesting and enjoyable. However, I am strict and expect tutees' cooperation and regular input throughout the learning process. I am entirely honest with parents and tutees about progress.

I hold a BSc in Microbiology from UCL, an MSc in Biochemistry for Sussex University, A PhD in Molecular Biology from John Innes Institute/UEA and have researched and lectured at Imperial College London. I was the Director of Medical Programme and am currently the Head of Science at a London school.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught A Level (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC) full-time for 18 years and am fully aware of examiner's requirement for all the boards. I train students fully for UKCAT and the Biology aspects of BMAT. Many of my tutees have gone on to score 100% in A level units and one has achieved 600/600 overall. Tutees, after a comparatively short period of time, improve their A Level score by several grades (E to A is a possibility).

For over 17 years I have helped students with their UCAS applications for degree courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Medically-related subjects such as Pharmacy, Optometry, Physiotherapy amongst others. I have also taught undergraduate students in Medicine, Dentistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Tutoring Approach:

As a specialist in exam-focused, intensive tuition, I primarily teach with emphasis on understanding and provide clear, concise class notes. I help students to organise revision materials that are specifically aimed at ensuring exactly what is required in answers (be it data or applied questions), how to manage time in exams, and provide strategies and tactics to maximise success.

I have organised booklets of past exam questions (covering almost 10 years of exams) in each topic for each board which will be given as Homework to help students apply their knowledge and therefore, learn exam technique (in their own specific board). Therefore, strengths and weaknesses can be addressed.
