Personal Description:
I am a friendly, approachable final year student, studying Medicine at Imperial College London University. I am now completing my degree in Medicine, having spent a year on my intercalated BSc in Reproduction and Development, achieving First Class Honours. I achieved 7A* and 3A grades at GCSE, A grades in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A level and a B in AS Level English Literature. I take great pride in my academic achievements and I enjoy encouraging people to achieve their full potential.

I am experienced in tutoring Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level Maths and Sciences, and I can also help prospective medical students prepare for UKCAT or BMAT examinations, interview technique, or personal statement applications.

I aim to help students tackle areas of weakness, improve their exam technique and confidence, and reach the best of their ability.

Teaching Experience:

This year I tutored a GCSE student and AS level student and we are waiting for their results. Last year I tutored 2 GCSE students, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We worked through topics as they studied them in school, building and improving this knowledge, or focusing on particular areas of concern. They achieved 2A*s and 2As, and 3As and a B respectively.

I previously taught a Year 8 student, teaching her half of the Year 8 maths curriculum which she had missed due to moving from abroad. This was challenging as I was teaching her subjects from scratch rather than building on original knowledge, but it greatly improved my teaching technique.

I have also tutored A Level students preparing for applying to Medical School, in particular with interview skills, UKCAT/BMAT technique, and personal statement preparation.

Review from prospective medical student's mother:
Tanya came out of the room a different person. Gone were the fears surrounding the UKCAT. I am really grateful. Definitely, Tanya will come to you for help with the interviews. From the beginning, you have been encouraging her and that is the trait of a brilliant tutor.

Review from GCSE student, Jade:
"Hannah is the best tutor I've had, she is very attentive, friendly and efficient. If it takes a long time for me to get my head around the topic, Hannah is never intolerant and she is always very patient and will help me understand the topic the best way possible. However, it rarely takes long for me to understand topics because we go through them comprehensively as well as surprisingly quickly. Sometimes she sets a few questions for homework after the lesson to make sure the student completely understands what was covered, which she will mark and go through the answers with me in the next lesson. I find this very useful as she helps me understand where I have gone wrong and I can learn from my mistakes. Hannah is also very good at explaining topics outside of the syllabus to help me understand it better, without overcomplicating things."

Tutoring Approach:

Initially, I will discuss the student's expectations of what they wish to achieve, and the areas which cause them concern. From this we will decide a personal plan of how much work is needed, and a timescale. Using the student's syllabus, we can highlight areas of particular weakness to focus on and improve the student's confidence and ability.

Additionally I will set the student work outside of tutoring sessions which can either be posted or emailed to me prior to the next session. This will highlight problem areas with the next topic we aim to cover, or consolidate what has been learnt in previous sessions. I believe that using past exam questions is very important, as they provide fantastic practice, helping students develop strategies and familiarising themselves with timing and the style of exam questions., which is key to success.

I am patient and confident, and can easily adapt my teaching techniques to suit individual students. I look forward to offering my support.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

Personal Description:
I have a BSc in Psychology from Leeds University, graded 2:1, an MSc from Bristol University in Nutrition and Public Health, graded distinction, and an Mphil form Cambridge in Public Health graded distinction. I am currently working on my PhD in Public Health, based in Cambridge.

Prior to this, I studied A levels in Biology, Psychology and English Literature, and AS levels in Geography and Photography, all graded A. I am looking to tutor any subject related to these areas, including A-level and undergraduate.

Teaching Experience:

some tutoring experience and I have spent a number of years both learning and working in an academic environment, which required working within groups of fellow students, completing learning activities, developing presentations and explaining concepts to those requiring further insight.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I learn best by attempting to understand a concept fully and by placing it in a relevant context, rather than by learning off by heart. I would hope to help a tutee learn by these methods. I think that learning the context and relevance of a concept can make a subject more interesting, and hence more memorable.

I also find breaking down work into manageable chunks and using various techniques (colour coding, acronyms etc.) can assist memory, and my background in Psychology means I have some understanding of how to apply these.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old student currently undertaking a Masters in Pharmacy at King's College London. I have been awarded two A*'s in Chemistry and Biology and a B in English Literature at A Level. I have also attained four A*s, seven A's and 2 B's at GCSE level; including A* in Mathematics and A's in Chemistry, Physics, Religious Studies, French, English Language and English Literature. I have a wide range of knowledge in the subjects I wish to teach and believe I can help in fulfilling any student's potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience ranging from helping younger friends and family with GCSEs and AS Levels, to tutoring students up to my own age, with examinations up to A2 level. I have tutored GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Maths and English from September 2010.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every student is different and will learn best in different ways; I provide a safe, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere where they will feel at ease to discuss any academic difficulties they may have and to ask questions. I am very flexible in that I, unlike a lot of tutors, will teach in a way that suits the student best - be that using textbooks or not, going through exam papers, quizzes, as well as providing a phone number if the student wishes to contact me about the homework etc, and even Skype details so that no student feels left behind if they cannot attend a session for any reason. I am passionate about teaching, and I am confident that I can make a significant difference to a student's understanding of subjects and thus, give them a greater chance of success.

Personal Description:
I am married with a daughter of 24 and a son of 21. On occasion I help my husband garden for the elderly and disabled. I graduated from Exeter University in 1985. Teaching has always been a vocation rather than a job as I love seeing the 'penny drop'.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 2 Secondary schools I was a Deputy Head of Science and the Professional Tutor for the school. Whilst teaching I covered the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 syllabus. I then had the pleasure of working in the primary sector for 6 years teaching the Key Stage 2 syllabus. Since 2005 I have been tutoring students ranging from 7 years of age to adults. Education Otherwise gave me the opportunity to teach in various homes during the day. I offer day time tutoring to fit the needs of the individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is informal. I believe students learn best when they are at ease and not under pressure. If students are distracted in their own home I offer them tuition in my home. My students marks have improved by 2 grades and in the last 18 months several have jumped up 3 grades leaving students, parents and myself very happy.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in Cell Biology from Durham University and a 1st Class Hons BSc in Biomedical Sciences. I currently focus on teaching GCSE and A-level for the AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards, and I also have experience teaching undergraduates and postgraduates at Durham University.

I'm happy to give students a free trial lesson to demonstrate my tuition and I'm also happy to speak to parents to answer any questions. All of my previous students have made significant progress, all improving at least one grade, but some improving by 2 or 3 grades.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach Biology at GCSE, iGCSE and A-level, but also have experience teaching undergraduates and postgraduates at Durham University. I am currently using online tutoring for most of my students.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching focuses on improving student understanding and developing exam technique. This allows students to apply their knowledge in the exam to gain maximum marks.

I like to teach ahead of the work that my students are doing in class. This means that they can benefit much more from their lessons in 6th form or college because they go in with prior understanding and are able to absorb much more of the knowledge from their teacher.

Personal Description:
I am a current A-level Biology examiner and moderator and former A-level Biology Chief Examiner who has worked in bioscience research and more recently in life science marketing and academic conference management in chemistry and biochemistry. I am a Chartered Chemist Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and committee member of the Protein & Peptide Science Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years' experience in one-to-one teaching, starting with giving undergraduate tutorials at the University of Oxford. I have been offering private tuition in A-level Chemistry and Biology for 3 years. In summer 2014 all except one of my students obtained the grades they required for their first-choice university place.

I am able to tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of the student and to make best use of online and other electronic resources to help students to an understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I start by identifying the particular needs of the student: do they have problems with understanding some or all of the subject; are there any areas of weakness that need to be strengthened; are there issues with exam technique that need to be addressed?

Even well taught students who have a good grasp of the subject can fail to achieve their full potential through poor exam technique. My earlier experience as a Chief Examiner, responsible for setting and marking A level exams, means that I have a detailed knowledge of the exam system and how students need to approach exam papers. My current examining experience has given me an insight into how to help students avoid unnecessary loss of marks by developing clear and rigorous approaches to their answers and to develop strategies to approach individual questions so as to maximise their performance.

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and have a Masters degree in Natural Sciences at University College London, specialising in Organic Chemistry and Pharmacology, for which I was awarded First Class Honours (80%). I am currently undertaking my PhD at Imperial College London in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Having studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry Physics and Biology at A-Level, I feel that I will make an experienced tutor in these subject areas.

In my private time, I enjoy watching and playing rugby, road cycling and like to watch F1 racing. I also like to play the guitar, although this is something that I may need to get my own tutor for!

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved with tutorials at University College London and Imperial College London, helping teach the problem classes for First and Second year students. I am comfortable with children, young adults and adults of all ages. Having worked at a local leisure centre for over 5 years (in both Children's Activities and Lifeguarding roles), I have a wealthy experience in teaching and personal skills.

I have an advanced knowledge in tutoring UK A-level exam boards (OCR, Edexcel, AQA etc.), IB qualifications, AP qualifications and undergraduate/postgraduate studies. For some representative examples of my experience, please see below.

Kate - AS/A-Level Chemistry (OCR Exam Board) - Predicted a D, achieved a B overall including first year retakes.
Isabel - AP Chemistry (American system) - Scored a 4 overall.
Pooyan - Open University - Drug Design and Synthesis - Raised his module assignment scores from an average of 54% to 92%.
Gary - Experimental Therapeutics MSc Oxford University - Helped coach Gary towards winning a place on the Masters course at Oxford University from a background in law with no previous scientific knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel the student must work hard during sessions and nothing will come easy. However, it is with this attitude, the student will succeed and get the most out of the time he/she spends. I aim to encourage the student as much as possible during the sessions, and explain fully any sections the remain unclear.

I make myself available at all times of the day for communication and any short questions the student may have.

Personal Description:
I am a well qualified and experienced teacher in Maths, English Language & Science. I have taught in various secondary schools for well over 14 years and have also offered one to one tuition in to many pupils in Primary & Secondary schools.

I possess a degree in education and a teacher training certifiate (PGCE) in Maths & ICT.I have successfully helped pupils to gain exceptional results in their subject areas. I am also a National Education award winner.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my experience in education, both studying and teaching, I have realised that not all students are given sufficient attention from the teacher.

This is a problem inherent within the education system. Let me explain. The average school-class consists of approximately 25 students and the average teacher works under tremendous pressures. These include the demands of completing the syllabus, time restraints and teaching students of mixed abilities. For these reasons, it is usually the case that teachers are unable to attend to the needs of each individual at all times.

As a result, it is very likely that some students fail to understand key concepts or even lose confidence in themselves and in the subject. Now I have launched my own personal tutoring service: Private Tuition UK
which is tailored specifically to each pupils requirements.

Tutoring Approach:

Good Time Management Skills

Personal Description:
I am an Imperial College graduate in Biomedical Engineering (masters).
I was born in Italy from Italian parents, but have lived in the UK since I was 6 years old (I'm perfectly bilingual). I attended the European School in Culham, near Oxford, before moving to London for university.
I am a friendly and outgoing person, when I'm not busy with uni work I like to be in the company of friends, enjoy cinema, live music and playing/watching sports, particularly football and squash.

Teaching Experience:

Over my first two years at university, I helped some As and A-level students from my old school, especially during their exam period (i.e.: one on one revision sessions, helping out with coursework and writing sets of revision notes) in Maths, Biology and Physics.
Early in 2011 I joined the Blue Tutors agency, where my teaching skills were assessed and received full accreditation.
In October 2013 I did weekly one-on-one GCSE maths lessons for the month leading up to an exam. As well as the lessons I made revision notes for the student, whose mark increased from C- to B.
From January to April 2014 I was Project Coordinator and voluntary teacher in weekly extra curricular activity "Code Club", a basic computer programming workshop at Pimlico Academy. Generally about a dozen 13-14 year old students attended.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is generally quite friendly: I believe that at a subconscious level, a student will be much more inclined to listen to and learn from a person they trust and appreciate. However, I also believe the teaching style must be suited to the student, and largely depends on the subject being taught.
A particular technique which I have learnt from Blue Tutors and have tried to implement ever since, is to try and lead the student to the answer by asking the right questions, rather than just giving him the answer.

Personal Description:
I'm 23 years old and currently I work part-time in a library, in an after-school club, tutoring and offering child-care.
I graduated a couple of years ago from Cambridge where I studied Classics.
I studied Maths, Biology, Chemistry as well as Latin at A-level, so I view languages quite mathematically. I enjoy spending time with people, playing the piano, being outside, and doing anything crafty.

Teaching Experience:

I have a number of different teaching experiences; currently I'm tutoring GCSE Maths, Science and English for a 16-year-old girl, helping her to understand work covered in class and to revise for her up-coming exams.

Before university I spent 3 months living with a family in Tanzania and home-tutoring their 10-year-old son in English, Maths, Sciences and History. It was brilliant to see him gaining confidence over that time, particularly in Maths, going from hating it to actually admitting he quite enjoyed times-tables!

Also, whilst at university, I tutored a number of pupils during school holidays in English, Maths and Science, from primary up to age-14 including studying for the 11+ and 13+ examinations.

I have experience working with students with SEN including helping a boy with dyspraxia with his Maths, and last year working 1:1 with a young child with autism.

For many years I've also enjoyed working with children aged 0-16 in Sunday school groups and holiday clubs.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to work with the pupil to identify any areas of difficulty, and then approach these topics from different angles in order to find a method or explanation that the student can better understand and more easily learn. I aim to offer plenty encouragement to help pupils to grow in confidence and in enjoyment of their studies.

Personal Description:
I graduated two years ago from the Courtauld Institute of Art, from where I gained a degree in Art History. Since then I have continued my research in architectural, art and historic subjects through working as a researcher at an international architecture and design consultancy firm. After a very solid foundation in art and architectural history, I now have an insight into the practical applications of such research and its importance in the commercial world.

Areas of particular interest to me include: Manuscripts, Middle-eastern art and architecture, gender studies, institutional architecture, the Victorian Period, 20th century fashion, art theory and modern architecture.

I also have A-Levels in Classical Civilisation, Biology and Chemistry, so I can offer assistance with those subjects up until GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I am only beginning as a tutor and therefore have limited teaching experience but I do regularly discuss and impart information to others as part of my job. My role is to share my research findings in the most efficient way possible and I have always received positive feedback relating to my presentations and reports. My seminar contribution at university was also well received.

Tutoring Approach:

I would like to help students to understand the bigger picture, in order to understand the importance of the smaller details. I believe that endless memorising only has a short-term benefit and should be largely unnecessary if there is a real understanding of the context.

I also believe that the enthusiasm of the tutor inevitably infects the tutee, no matter what the learning material.

Personal Description:
I'm a 21 year old male who currently works for the Ambulance service as an Emergency Medical Technician. I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2013 with a 2:1 in Physical Education. During my degree I mainly focused on health & disease of the general human population and cardiac physiology. I am lucky to be in a job where I can relate the theoretical knowledge I have learnt to real life applications.

I studied Biology, Maths, Physics and Physical Education at A-Level and I am willing to teach both Biology and PE up to this standard. My main interest is in the human biology side of the biology curriculum. I am comfortable teaching all areas of the PE curriculum, this is my preferred subject.

I work shifts so my availability changes each week however I'm normally available for at least 3 week evenings/nights per week as well as 1 guaranteed weekend per month.

Teaching Experience:

During my time at university I completed a variety of teaching modules including both practical and theory lessons in Secondary schools. I also have experience of teaching SEN pupils.

As well my teaching placements at university I have been a multi sport coach for the last 3 years leading sport sessions to teenagers on my own. I also have experience of teaching first aid to university students for the last 2 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that each student is different and will grasp concepts at their own pace requiring differing levels of support. I like to focus my time on areas that the pupil finds particularly challenging as I don't see the point in wasting time going over an area that they already have a good understanding of.

I like to try and link theory to practical as I believe this helps with a students understanding, as well as making the subject more interesting. I believe using past exam paper questions are vital to allow the pupil to experience what kind of replies the exam boards are looking for.

I am a pretty easy going kind of person who likes to make sessions fun and enjoyable as I believe this helps a student to learn. Ultimately I will try and let the student dictate each sessions as they know what works best for them.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate entry Medical student at Newcastle University and have a 2:1 Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences and Physiology (BSc) from the University of Aberdeen. The graduate-entry Medicine course is a highly competitive course with only 22 places to over 1100 applicants. I attended school and sixth form in Wales where I did A-levels in biology, chemistry and maths, and I teach A-level biology, and GCSE chemistry, biology and maths.
I also play the violin, which I have played for 15 years and achieved grade 8.
Medicine takes up most of my time, but when I'm not studying I like to play the violin, read, go for walks, and relax with friends.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in tutoring both face-to-face and online using an online whiteboard. I have been tutoring for a number of years, starting with family and friends during my A-levels, moving on to siblings of friends and then others in local schools via word of mouth. I carried this on when I moved to Aberdeen for my first degree, tutoring students in the local school and college. I have recently moved to Newcastle to start a graduate-entry degree in Medicine. In addition, I have plenty of experience helping students applying for Medicine in personal statement writing and interview preparation. I have also played the violin for 15 years and offer lessons up to grade 5 level.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very laid-back person, and I like to think I can put people at ease. I love working with young people and feel that you can really get to know a student in a one-to-one teaching environment and therefore tailor your teaching to their learning style, which isn't always possible in the classroom. One-to-one teaching is a much more engaging way to learn and the constant interaction means that the student is far less likely to switch off.

Personal Description:
I am a second year student who is currently studying at the University of Greenwich and I study Chemistry BSc Hons. I am aspiring to be a Chemistry teacher in the future as I would love to share my passion and education with the generations below.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at many tuition centers and I have been teaching from home for nearly two years. All my students have come away from my teaching with high grades and they have all eventually gotten into good London universities such as, The School of Economics and Political Science or Queen Mary University.

Tutoring Approach:

As I am currently a student, I work with other students very well as I understand the stress and pressure and help they need. I work by teaching them topics in the beginning but then I like all my students to gain a sense of independence when working as that's what they will need when they are in the exam. Many students make the mistake of learning from a textbook, word for word, when the key is understanding, that's what I give in every single subject I teach as that's what differentiates from the A grade students to the other students.

I also give the older students support and advice with their university applications and I also help with open days, I like to be more than a tutor, I like to be my students support so they can be the best they can be in their future work or education. At the end of the day 'If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough' - Albert Einstein.

Personal Description:
I am an Masters Civil Engineering (MEng) student at the University of Liverpool. I have completed four years of study including a maths and science foundation and I am now in my final Masters year. I am friendly and good at communicating. I am strongest explaining maths and science concepts to students who aren't naturally strong in these areas.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring GCSE science for over a year with positive results.

Tutoring Approach:

I am strongest at explaining maths and science concepts to students who aren't naturally strong in these areas. This is because I studied humanities A-levels at sixth-form before switching on to the Civil Engineering programme at university and completing a maths and science foundation (equivalent to Maths, Chemistry and Physics A-Levels). I believe it is possible for anyone to excel at maths and science if given the right approach.
