Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

Personal Description:
Thank you for reading my profile. In 2015 I was nominated by my students for two University teaching awards- best teacher and best post graduate supervisor. In May 2015 I was invited to lecture at Cambridge University, lecturing to medical students at Corpus Christi college. I have seventeen years of experience of teaching within Higher Education covering subjects such as biology, physical education, science, psychology, anatomy, physiology, research methods, study skills, and assignment writing. I completed my PhD in 2009 at the University of Central Lancashire where I undertook research in Rheumatology.

Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 10 years at hospitals in my local area, achieving Senior I grade. During this time I assumed the role of Clinical Educator for students of Physiotherapy thus beginning my teaching career. While working within the NHS I was also the Physiotherapist to the England Women's football team for three years. This was a unique and memorable experience and I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union.

I am an internationally published author, having written and edited seven books which have been translated into ten languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing, study skills and health studies.

As part of my teaching I am have been an external examiner at the Universities of East London and Bradford on their undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions and modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy.

I began working as a private tutor four years ago. This role gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers an incredible amount of job satisfaction.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for several years now, and I am now an assessor and marker for A levels and one of the earliest members of the Tutors Association. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. Please note that if you are a student at the University of Salford i will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.

Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.

As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutees home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.

In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age, however i am aware that privvate tuition is a serious commitment and it is very important that there is a clear structure to the sessions. I am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A' level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning.
The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.


Additional Information

While I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.

I believe in goal-based learning; essentially targeting and refining teaching of a subject for the specific purpose of excelling in exams. This enhances efficiency and reduces excess learning investment which might be directed elsewhere. While this may seem graceless, I know that this reflects the current ethics of the education system, and that learning for the sake of the subject (outside of the curriculum) is done by those interested enough in it to not require a tutor. Hey there. I'm Danny, and I'm a third year medical student at Imperial College London, but my interests aren't solely limited to science! I love learning new languages, travelling to new places, and am committed to furthering the education of the next generation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring officially for two years now, but also unofficially tutored my sister and other students for GCSE/AS Level previous to this. My experiences includes tutoring students in the areas of Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and German, and the past two years have really helped me formulate my preferred method of tutoring and find out what works best for the student in question.
I now attend conferences aimed at helping younger students get into medical school, which includes conducting mock interviews, helping students with their personal statements and tutoring them. Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing to me is that any tutee of mine understands the fundamental concepts of what they're learning, rather than simply rote learning, as much more is achieved this way. Teaching Experience:

I was Head of Chemistry at Eton College for four years and taught part time students chemistry at the University of Northampton.

Since 1989 I have been an Associate Lecturer in chemistry with The Open University teaching part-time students by distance learning and at Summer Schools. I currently teach an Open University chemistry course.

I have been coaching students in science and maths for over 30 years. Post-16 I have extensive specialist background in chemistry for Edexcel, OCR and AQA at AS and A2, including Salters, A-level plus I have experience of the International Baccalaureate,PreU and supporting vocational courses.

I have supported students in chemistry, biology, physics [as triple or double science, for the AQA, Edexcel and OCR syllabuses (including 21st Century science)] and maths at GCSE/IGCSE for many years and for helping with Independent School entrance. I have also supported students studying for equivalency testing for career development.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient, friendly and successful teacher specialising in chemistry at GCSE and A-level [and university level]. In addition I have extensive experience of tutoring science and mathematics to GCSE level. My experience covers helping students of all ages [from primary to adults] and from all backgrounds. I have a good sense of humour, am used to teaching on-line and in 1:1 situations. My approach is to boost a students` confidence in a relaxed environment resulting in greater success and self-belief which results in more enjoyment - and success - in the subjects being studied. Over the years I have successfully helped over 70 students to achieve success.

I recently graduated with a 2.1 in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford (St. John's College), achieving a 2.i. I completed my A levels at Dr Challoner's in Amersham

I'm enthusiastic about teaching and believe the sciences are something anyone can get to grips with once someone has explained the ideas to them in a clear and concise manner.

I am currently going through the process of becoming an officer in the British army and so am available to tutor until July 2015. In addition to in-person tuition, I can also provide help via email or skype, which could be especially useful for clearing up last minute problems before the exams. I can also provide tuition for advice on Oxbridge interviews for students applying for university.

Teaching Experience:

I participated in a mentoring scheme at my school tutoring pupils from years 8 and 9 for over a year. I have also given tutorials to biochemistry students in the year below me at uni. I have also tutored my little sister in the sciences for her 2013 GCSEs, as well as maths A level in 2014 and 2015.

Tutoring Approach:

Ideally I will contact the student prior to the tutorial and ask them what board they are on and to provide me with a list of any topics or issues that are troubling them; we will then spend the tutorial going through each issue until I feel he/she has grasped the topic.

Alternatively, if the student doesn't have any specific problems, I will give them some exam questions to answer and we will go through each question and the topic that it represents with them, at some degree of detail according to the level of understanding shown by the tutee's answer.

The questions can either be done during the tutorial, so that the answers and problems they faced are fresh in their mind, or can be emailed and completed before the tutorial.

I try to keep my tutorials relaxed and conversational so that the tutee feels comfortable with the work and isn't afraid to ask any questions, no matter how silly they think the question

To encourage the student to consider their own development and goals and to consider the methods of delivery utilized by the education establishment and how these meet the needs of the individuals. Once this has been done, and I am able to assess the student. I can create a detailed scheme of work over the weeks required to ensure that the sessions are detailed, and the student is aware of what is to be covered and when, regular assessment and reinforcement aid the development within the subject, as well as far as possible linking the theory to activities the student can relate to.

I find it is important to ensure methods are in place for the student to be able to continue work post session, and is at all times supported, and gains confidence in their abilities, supported further by the education establishment they are in.

All students are given an action plan each session for work to complete, and this is conducted in "bite size" amounts as the student develops.

Review every 2 weeks of learning, development and reflection helps to keep the sessions relevant and engaged, and most importantly to ensure that the student in learning and developing at all times
