Personal Description:
Hi all, I'm Ben a 26 year old full time private tutor. I've been working as a private tutor now for 5 years and they have flown by! Tutoring is not just a job to me it's a passion. I'm a laid back guy who's friendly and easy to talk to, I pride myself in my interpersonal skills as well as my academic knowledge I believe both are equally important for tutors to have.

I graduated from Kings College Cambridge University in June '08 with a B.A hons in Natural Sciences, having attended the Brooksbank school and 6th form where I achieved 3 A's and 2 B's at A-level in Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and General Studies. I have been employed by Calderdale Council since July '08 working with children and young people in various roles. I started tutoring as a hobby as it has always given me great satisfaction and enjoyment as well as keeping me in touch with subject that I intend to get back into one day. In June '10 I left my post with Calderdale Council and now work full time as a tutor doing a job I adore.

For my hobbies I enjoy swimming, playing football, DJing, gigging and playing in bands.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally since January '09 and in the period until June'13 I have had the privilege of tutoring more than 100 students spread across all the subjects that I offer. I have taught all abilities ranging from oxford/cambridge applicants to students just wanting to pass the subject, no matter what you're level is I'll work as hard as I can to insure you get best results possible. I have worked full time as a tutor since September '10 meaning that I have been able to dedicate all my time, effort and focus into making sure that all my students excel.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my experience I have found that students learn much better when they are relaxed and comfortable. This has led me to adopt a laid back and informal approach to ensure that the learning environment maximises the tutees ability to learn. I understand that everyone has individual needs and learns differently and because of this I am very adaptable in the way I teach. I focus my lessons on two main areas: the first involves making sure the tutee has a firm understanding of the topic and all the principles that are involved within it removing any misconceptions that would hamper further progress. The second area works on the tutees technique working with them to ensure they can understand, digest and answer questions.

Due to my passion for teaching it gives me the drive to go the extra mile to make sure that all my students fulfill their aspirations. I have helped my previous students with University applications, coursework, interviews, CV's and job applications. Due to working full time as a tutor now I am able to offer constant support for all my tutees so I am able to help whenever they need it.

Personal Description:
I am an MBBS doctor and working at St Georges Medical University of London. I am a trained PBL / CBL tutor and conduct tutorials at this university. I have completed my Diploma in Proofreading from NCC college of learning and work as a proofreader aswell.

I am interested in teaching profession. I have almost seven year experience of private and online tuitions of Biology, Combined Science to the students of GCSE and GCE and Anatomy to the students of MBBS.

I am very passionate about teaching. My teaching techniques differ with students. I know how to help weak students by giving small assessments. However, I don't believe in passive Learning, I want my students to be Active learner. So, my lesson is not based on just explaining topics but, I make sure that students understand that and do some work their-self.

I do different kind of topic based activities which enhance student's confidence and they can write their answers in more depth. Moreover, revision sessions are the prime importance of my lesson. I do believe, if students act according to my suggestions, the way I guide them, they will get high scores.

Teaching Experience:

I teach Anatomy to MBBS and Biomedical Science students at St. George's University of London since 2008.

I have taught Biology to GCSE and College level students in groups and individuals. From 1997-continue. I am aware of all exam board (AQA, OCR & EDEXCEL)

I do Problem and Case base learning at St Georges University of London (First, Second & T year)

I have taught Biology to AS/A2 level student in May-June 2009 - continue

I have taught Pediatrics, Obstetrics to a student of imperial college through face to face in 2009- continue.

I have good experience of teaching and supervising OSCE and have taught this to student of st Georges University of London in Feb-June 2009.

I have taught Pathology to a student of US Via correspondence in 2009.

I have interest & experience of teaching in the following areas;
GCSE, AS / A2 (GCE) levels, Physical Education (Academic side) & IB:
Biology
Combined Science
Applied Science

MBBS, Nursing, and Physiotherapy Degree Levels:
Medicine
Gynecology /Obstetrics
Pediatrics
Anatomy
Pathology
Physiology
Microbiology
Pharmacology
Forensics

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I elicit response that demonstrates understanding. During teaching I create the space for students to learn. For Instance, the art of my teaching is to ask students to demonstrate what they already know about the topic because it helps students in building their understanding based on their knowledge.

I can teach either face to face or through correspondence and I give students time to learn at their own pace. I always ensure that students have displayed their understandings to me. I am approachable and friendly so students can pay attention and feel they can ask question.

In addition, I also provide small assessments to assess the outcome of my teaching and student's understanding and their performance

I help my students in several forms. The most common of which are:
Preparing Notes and Handouts
Preparing Model Answers
Marking Work
Providing Mcqs for degree students
Helping in course work

Personal Description:
I am a medical doctor with a passion for teaching. Medicine, biology and chemistry are my areas of expertise as a medical and chemistry graduate. I have taught throughout my professional life and if you have a goal in mind I'm sure I can help you achieve it. All levels and abilities are welcome, as are adult/mature students.

I have worked in the healthcare sector, in engineering and in pharmaceutical research. The knowledge and experience gained from all these industries helps me bring relevance and purpose to learning science and mathematics.

I am looking forward to working in medical education once my specialist training is under way.

Teaching Experience:

Since qualifying as a doctor I have been regularly involved in teaching colleagues and students both on the wards and at specific educational events: I have taught on courses, at departmental meetings and to small groups.

During medical school I tutored part-time through this site.

Before medical school I worked in Liverpool as a personal tutor with Academy International (the science branch of the Liverpool Language Academy) teaching GCSE and AS/A2 students.

I provided training and teaching to colleagues when I worked as an electronics technician.

Tutoring Approach:

Flexible; whatever works best for you:
- If you're not sure where to start, we can cover the basics over a few lessons.
- If there is a particular topic you are struggling with, or a textbook you need to work from, we can base our work around that.
- We can go through past exam papers to see how to approach exam questions.
- Complete an exam paper at home and we can mark it together.
- I don't believe in rote learning of facts: we will master the underlying principles so you can apply them during your exams, and beyond.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, approachable final year student, studying Medicine at Imperial College London University. I am now completing my degree in Medicine, having spent a year on my intercalated BSc in Reproduction and Development, achieving First Class Honours. I achieved 7A* and 3A grades at GCSE, A grades in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A level and a B in AS Level English Literature. I take great pride in my academic achievements and I enjoy encouraging people to achieve their full potential.

I am experienced in tutoring Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level Maths and Sciences, and I can also help prospective medical students prepare for UKCAT or BMAT examinations, interview technique, or personal statement applications.

I aim to help students tackle areas of weakness, improve their exam technique and confidence, and reach the best of their ability.

Teaching Experience:

This year I tutored a GCSE student and AS level student and we are waiting for their results. Last year I tutored 2 GCSE students, in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We worked through topics as they studied them in school, building and improving this knowledge, or focusing on particular areas of concern. They achieved 2A*s and 2As, and 3As and a B respectively.

I previously taught a Year 8 student, teaching her half of the Year 8 maths curriculum which she had missed due to moving from abroad. This was challenging as I was teaching her subjects from scratch rather than building on original knowledge, but it greatly improved my teaching technique.

I have also tutored A Level students preparing for applying to Medical School, in particular with interview skills, UKCAT/BMAT technique, and personal statement preparation.

Review from prospective medical student's mother:
Tanya came out of the room a different person. Gone were the fears surrounding the UKCAT. I am really grateful. Definitely, Tanya will come to you for help with the interviews. From the beginning, you have been encouraging her and that is the trait of a brilliant tutor.

Review from GCSE student, Jade:
"Hannah is the best tutor I've had, she is very attentive, friendly and efficient. If it takes a long time for me to get my head around the topic, Hannah is never intolerant and she is always very patient and will help me understand the topic the best way possible. However, it rarely takes long for me to understand topics because we go through them comprehensively as well as surprisingly quickly. Sometimes she sets a few questions for homework after the lesson to make sure the student completely understands what was covered, which she will mark and go through the answers with me in the next lesson. I find this very useful as she helps me understand where I have gone wrong and I can learn from my mistakes. Hannah is also very good at explaining topics outside of the syllabus to help me understand it better, without overcomplicating things."

Tutoring Approach:

Initially, I will discuss the student's expectations of what they wish to achieve, and the areas which cause them concern. From this we will decide a personal plan of how much work is needed, and a timescale. Using the student's syllabus, we can highlight areas of particular weakness to focus on and improve the student's confidence and ability.

Additionally I will set the student work outside of tutoring sessions which can either be posted or emailed to me prior to the next session. This will highlight problem areas with the next topic we aim to cover, or consolidate what has been learnt in previous sessions. I believe that using past exam questions is very important, as they provide fantastic practice, helping students develop strategies and familiarising themselves with timing and the style of exam questions., which is key to success.

I am patient and confident, and can easily adapt my teaching techniques to suit individual students. I look forward to offering my support.

Personal Description:
Currently an undergraduate student taking Bachelor of Science Biochemistry at Imperial College London, I have graduated from a UK international school in Singapore (United World College SEA) with IB and GCSE of which the subjects are listed in the qualifications section.
I am a very approachable person and I will create an open and friendly learning environment in which the student can be confident to share his or her difficulties with me without any embarrassment. Learning cannot be done without self motivation and enjoyment. What I aim to do is to teach the students and also implant this self motivation which can assist them to improve further.
I have encountered with many private tutors myself throughout the years of GCSE and IB so I know exactly what kinds of tutors the students require.

Teaching Experience:

Several recent teaching experiences with students at GCSE levels for maths, biology and chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths, Biology and Chemistry: Maths, Biology and Chemistry is all about applying the theories to the questions in correct ways through several manipulations and tricks. Nevertheless this cannot be done without a full understanding of the basic concepts.
By asking the student in what specific area of science they are having particular trouble with, each day I will focus on one specific topic, go through the concepts first and try out questions of different levels of difficulties with the student, finishing off by giving short half-an-hour-worth homework which the students can go through by themselves. The answers can be checked in the next lesson and any wrong answers will be explained. Any school work can be covered together during this time as well.

Economics:
GCSE Economics is all about tackling the questions following the mark scheme and identifying what the examiners want in answers for each question. To do this theories and curves must be understood first.
Different sections within microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics etc will be covered each day, followed by going through short essay questions together to jot down key factors in bullet points.
Help in coursework possible.

Personal Description:
Hello there, this is Clair here, I`m 24 and am currently undertaking a chemical research PHD in the field of materials chemistry at UCL. I graduated from my undergraduate Chemistry degree at UCL and prior to this I lived in Portsmouth having moved there from Malaysia when I was 13. This coming September I am in line to be secretary of the Chemical and Physical Society, UCL's oldest society.

Aside from Chemistry I am also like running, taking photographs, going to see art, films, music and learning more about the world around me e.g. economics, politics and sociology.

Teaching Experience:

In recent years I have been in junior schools working with children during their science practicals. I have also had regular work tutoring one to one and small groups of KS3-GCSE students and have also been called in to help particular A-level/BTEC science classes. At university I mentor to undergraduate students.

Tutoring Approach:

During our tutoring session we'll do the normal thing of going through past papers but also work hard at actual understanding of the concepts. With me you will be able to understand and enjoy complex scientific and mathematical ideas and consequently get the grades you want and deserve. Hopefully we can work together to make this happen.

Due to work commitments I have been away from tutoring for a while (around 4 years) but it is something that I wish to get back into as I found it very rewarding. During a previous role I was selected as a mentor for new graduate trainees which ignited my desire to become a tutor again.

I tend to structure the sessions depending on the needs to the individual. I am happy to simply go over a topic or come up with sample tests - I am totally flexible and will aim to cater for your requirements.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, determined and very academic individual. Reading on daily basis is a habit and an addiction as well as, subscribing to several Science journals and magazines and keeping up to date with current developments in the scientific world. I am very open minded friendly and easy to talk to. I assist friends and families with all sort of coursework from international business management, Human Resources and Sciences. One thing about academic exercises is that knowledge is transferable. The skills acquired in one area can be transferred to another subject regardless of the fact that subject wasn't studied by the individual. What is required is; understand the concepts, have the structure laid out, have the right evidences to back up one's assertion and make your literature flow in a coherent and consistent manner. There is a first time for everything, try a tutor out and don't get too paranoid until you test one.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a laboratory technician and tutor in Biology and Chemistry laboratory in a college for 2 years. During my periods as laboratory technician I assist student with assignments. I also teach classes when lecturers are absent. I am an experienced home to home private tutor, and teach from primary, secondary to university. I am working in a new secondary school as a science technician, tutor and also training to a be a teacher. I still have students I teach all over London and also outside London for instance Slough, Woking etc. I am adaptable and fits quickly in any given environment. I have no problem travelling distances within London. Currently, I am writing a book for practical and experimental science for teachers, tutors and students.

I understand that students vary from their method of learning, absorbing and understanding teaching materials. The different types of learners range from kinaesthetic, visual and auditory. During my tutoring session I implement all three method of tutoring and then instinctively monitor and gauge student learning approach and then reinforce the style that is most suitable.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to my background as a laboratory technician, my approach is both practical, kinaesthetic, auditory, visual and theoretical. I will ensure my student understand the subject topic in depth by creating scenario's, diagrams, examples that matches the theoretical concept being discussed. I will keep prompting the student and using different learning approaches to engage the student to enhance assimilation of the learning material. As an experienced private tutor I have in possession numerous scientific diagrams, lecture notes, and power point presentation which I use in my tutoring. During and after tutoring students receive materials which continues to assist them in their studies. I use laptops, tablets, videos and diagrams to enhance and maximize teaching experience.

I have also worked with Local Government Chemist (LGC) the biggest private scientific firm in Europe with several outlets in the world. I have experienced hands on and progressive scientific developments and several analytically scientific progress. These include detection of cocaine, heroin and other drugs in body fluids such as urine, saliva and blood samples.

I demonstrate Scientific experiment and practical alongside teachers. My style of teaching is relating theory to practice. The advantage of this style of teaching is it unifies theory to practice, and hence, consolidating and building scientific confidence.

Personal Description:
I am a 25 year old Zoology graduate living in Brighton, where I now work as a freelance science journalist. Aside from my studies, I have spent a lot of time travelling to different parts of the world and I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them. I am friendly and approachable and I have a good sense of humour.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of teaching Biology to all age groups, from primary school to university level. As a postgraduate researcher at the University of Liverpool, I taught Biology and Statistics to undergraduate students and led field studies courses, as well as tutoring privately. Since then, I have also spent time teaching primary school children about wildlife in national parks.

Additionally, I have experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language to secondary school children in Spain.

Tutoring Approach:

While I think it is important to be focused when learning, I try to have a relaxed approach when I teach, in order to make lessons enjoyable for my students. I will explain complex subjects clearly and simply, and I'm very patient. I believe that students are more likely to be enthusiastic about a subject if they can enjoy learning it!

Personal Description:
I am currently studying medicine at Imperial College London and also have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science from Aston University.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for four years and have spent 6 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. For the past two years I have worked part time at a tuition centre teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.

Personal Description:
My name is Oli and I am enthusiastic, kind, 20 year old currently in his 3rd year at the University of Nottingham studying Medicine. I am looking for tutoring work in GCSE science and Medical school applications. I received A*'s in biology, chemistry and maths at GCSE and then A*'s in maths and biology A level with an A in chemistry therefore I am happy to tutor in any of these 3 subjects. I am also willing to tutor in applications for Medicine having been offered interviews to all of the medical schools i applied to and then offers from 3 out of 4 of these interviews.

Teaching Experience:

I have had teaching experience at University as a committee member for a society that teaches school pupils about physical and mental health as well as basic human anatomy.
I also have experience in tutoring local medical applicants for their personal statements and interviews.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of GCSE tutoring, each pupil is different and i feel like no teaching approach will suit all pupils. However, I believe it is important to start with the foundations and ground work of a subject. Once these principles are understood and mastered you can apply them to the more difficult aspects of the course allowing for a greater and overall understanding of the subject, as opposed to learning the subject in distinct and separate topics. Being able to understand the process of how to generate an answer makes things vastly easier in an exam situation compared to having to remember everything as separate nuggets of information. I would also place an emphasis on guiding the pupil to work things out themselves as opposed to simply dictating information to them as this is a skill they can apply when learning on their own or in an exam. However, I also recognise that some things need to be explained and cannot be worked out on your own.

As for medical school applications, there are a few big things that universities are looking for in an application that many people fail to recognise. It is not a case of listing everything you have done or how you're intelligent you are. In this area your results should speak for themselves. Instead, it is important to show them that you're a human being (not a robot). It's not important that you've done a week's work experience in a hospital; the focus should be on what you got out of it, what you've learned about being doctor etc.
I will also happily run interview practice and help tailor individual and unique answers to questions (that will inevitably crop up) but in a way that doesn't sound forced and rehearsed.

I hope I am the tutor you are looking for and i look forward to hearing from you.

Personal Description:
I am 54 years of age with a PhD in science, namely computer modelling of gas flow in the days before Computational Fluid Dynamics. Got a bursary to a top school in Edinburgh and was a straight A student in all sciences, becoming Dux in 4th year. Got 98% in maths prelim - 2nd in year got 80%! Became manager of the UK gas flowrate standard lab, worked on engine design and led the development of a computer modelling lab. I have a wide range of scientific knowledge through reading books and magazines as well as my formal education.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst a PhD student I taught undergrads computer programming and have tutored a number of friends' children with much success. Whilst managing the lab that maintains the UK standards for gas flowrate I taught many staff and visitors about how various experiments worked and the physics behind the equations used to define the likes of discharge coefficients or meter factors. Whilst working at one of the worlds main engine design companies I taught many far east visitors about how we worked out the various equations we used in cylinder head port design.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a great enthusiasm for all science and maths subjects and impart this enthusiasm on my students. I think in pictures and am well known for drawing lots of diagrams and allowing my students to enjoy learning. I can tell when a student hasn't understood a topic and am careful to go over a problem in different ways until I know they understand. It is so satisfying when realisation dawns on the student and I can see the satisfaction in their face.
