Personal Description:
I am 53 years of age, married with 3 children.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Secondary Science School teacher and have 9 years experience as a private tutor

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one to one tuition can greatly increase both a students confidence and knowledge in a subject. I try to create an informal and relaxing atmosphere by getting to know the student. I have an extensive knowledge of all the syllabuses. I use very effective methods to enable the student to grasp any difficult concepts and eventually concentrate on exam questions and technique. I help the student to take responsibility for their own learning and understand the best methods for learning (such as use of mind maps). The great majority of my students have achieved exam results which have far exceeded their expectations.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Pharmacology and a qualified teacher of Science from KS1 to KS5. I am also an examiner; I mark GCSE papers. I am a very hard working individual who is easily motivated and always ready to adapt and learn new skills. Having had various opportunities to carry out a variety of laboratory assessments as key components of my course, I am able to work as an individual or as part of a team. As a part of my degree I developed essential and transferable scientific skills. My project title was 'Synthesis and Biochemical Evaluation of Heat Shock Protein Hsp90 inhibitors on MCF-7 breast cancer cells'. Studies on how drugs are discovered, developed and used to treat disease gave me an understanding of how the human body functions and how drugs can be used to affect these functions. I have experience teaching from KS1 to KS5 and open university students. I enjoy travelling; visited New York, New Jersey, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Nigeria. I get pleasure from working out at the gym regularly and I love swimming. I also enjoy studying christian books and other inspirational books.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently at an inner city school in Portsmouth. It has 900 students on roll. I have over 6 years of experience working with people with challenging behaviour, dyslexia and autism. Currently I am teaching Key stage 3 and 4. Teaching pure Biology lessons to separate Science; Physics, Chemistry and Biology to core and Additional Science students. For key stage 3 I have followed the QCA guidelines and for key stage 4 the WJEC examination board. I have written schemes of work for year 11 students to cover additional Sciences and rewrote schemes of work to meet the recent curriculum changes key stage 3 and 4. I was also involved in producing resources to be shared in the department about hydrocarbons, polymers, smart materials, ammonia fertilizers and many other kS3 topics.

Prior to this experience my first teaching placement during my PGCE year was at a mixed comprehensive with approximately 900 students on role. I taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics at key stage 3 and team taught for key stage 4. This prepared me well for my second placement where I taught all three Sciences across both key stages. My second placement was also at a mixed comprehensive school with approximately 600 students on roll. I also was involved in Individual Student Assessments (ISA). Additionally as a trainee teacher I regularly was involved in school base activities to encourage students. I was a Student Ambassador for Portsmouth University. It gave me a lot of personal satisfaction and developed my communication skills. I also attended the University of East London gifted and talented day in 2008; which was attended by a number of schools from the borough of Redbridge. It was an inspiring day of learning and fun and I have taken elements from that day into my classroom practice today.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to first of all find out my students weaknesses and turn it into their strengths; I feel that the study of Neuropharmacology as part of my undergraduate degree in Pharmacology was very relevant to teaching. I have a secured subject knowledge with all three Sciences. I also like to bring the best of people, by being patient and understanding. I have the ability to cope and work under pressure, understanding of the challenges that need overcoming to learn, ability to take ownership of material and adapt it to suit the learning styles and approach of individual.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

Personal Description:
I am a clinical medical student at Barts and the London, having completed my pre-clinical training at Cambridge University. I have an excellent academic understanding of Biology, Chemistry and Maths up to A-level standard (and beyond where related to medicine), and additionally in English Literature, which I studied to AS-Level and achieved 100% in my examinations and coursework.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience in one-to-one and small group tuition of ages 6-13 in languages, religious studies and D&T. Having been a student within the one-to-one supervision (tutorials) system at Cambridge, I have recent and very relevant experience from the point of view of a tutee of what works and what doesn't work in a tutorial.

Tutoring Approach:

To start with, I work with the student to identify their current level of progress and look at which areas need improvement. I am very flexible and always ensure that every moment of the lesson is spent covering ground that is useful to the student, whether that is helping them to understand core principles, looking at past exam papers and exam technique or going beyond the basic course outlines to help them shine in their subject.

Personal Description:
My name is Lauren, I am 18 years old, and I am currently a student at Coventry University studying Spanish BA Single Honours, with TEFL (Teaching English as a foreign language). I am originally from Dorset, where I studied Spanish at GCSE and A Level, acquiring an A* at GCSE and a B at A Level. I believe I am a hard working individual with every intention on making sure I achieve what I set out to do. I enjoy helping others, working, and socialising with my friends, and I get on really well with new people.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I have helped out with some younger classes at my secondary school when they needed some assistance in some of the classes. Also, as my sister is 5 years younger than me, I have always been the one helping her with homework, or helping if there is something she does not understand. This means that I have some experience working with people who are in the age group I intend to teach.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a structured hour of work where the pupil is thoroughly engaged throughout the session. I think that there is a lot of importance in learning 'discovery' which is where the pupil is not spoon-fed information, but rather encouraged to try and work out patterns in the language e.g. grammar. Obviously if the pupil gets stuck I will help them. I also think grammar is an important part of learning Spanish language due to all of the verb conjugations and gender agreements etc. Homework is also important as doing a little each day is definitely one of the best ways to learn.

Personal Description:
Currently an undergraduate student taking Bachelor of Science Biochemistry at Imperial College London, I have graduated from a UK international school in Singapore (United World College SEA) with IB and GCSE of which the subjects are listed in the qualifications section.
I am a very approachable person and I will create an open and friendly learning environment in which the student can be confident to share his or her difficulties with me without any embarrassment. Learning cannot be done without self motivation and enjoyment. What I aim to do is to teach the students and also implant this self motivation which can assist them to improve further.
I have encountered with many private tutors myself throughout the years of GCSE and IB so I know exactly what kinds of tutors the students require.

Teaching Experience:

Several recent teaching experiences with students at GCSE levels for maths, biology and chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths, Biology and Chemistry: Maths, Biology and Chemistry is all about applying the theories to the questions in correct ways through several manipulations and tricks. Nevertheless this cannot be done without a full understanding of the basic concepts.
By asking the student in what specific area of science they are having particular trouble with, each day I will focus on one specific topic, go through the concepts first and try out questions of different levels of difficulties with the student, finishing off by giving short half-an-hour-worth homework which the students can go through by themselves. The answers can be checked in the next lesson and any wrong answers will be explained. Any school work can be covered together during this time as well.

Economics:
GCSE Economics is all about tackling the questions following the mark scheme and identifying what the examiners want in answers for each question. To do this theories and curves must be understood first.
Different sections within microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics etc will be covered each day, followed by going through short essay questions together to jot down key factors in bullet points.
Help in coursework possible.

Personal Description:
I am currently an undergraduate at Cambridge University entering my fourth year of natural sciences and taking courses in Theoretical and experimental physics. I have a broad interest in all the sciences and Maths.

Teaching Experience:

I am tutoring on a regular basis at present. During term time I tutor a nine year old maths to GCSE standard, a fifteen year old who I teach a mixture of all sciences and some maths, and a fourteen year old boy.. I have assisted in primary schools and have taught lessons at secondary level so have experience with young children. I often tutor friends at GCSE and A-level in the run up to exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have gained immense pleasure from the tutorial system at Cambridge. Not only is it an enjoyable way to learn but the way I am taught has given me a very good understanding of the basic ideas behind a concept which are then built upon. My approach to tutoring is similar in that I hope to give the student the ability to step back from a problem and understand the theories behind it. This is particularly important for Maths and Physics but I find it is also very useful in aiding understanding in Chemistry and Biology. Equally, I am very flexible and often it is the case, especially with GCSE and A level sciences that it is specific methods which must be honed and understood.

I do not believe in simply telling a student what to do. Instead getting them to think for themselves, prompting them when necessary allows them to go away and follow similar lines of thought to solve different problems. It also teaches students to be more independent and not seek assistance for every problem they are faced with.

Personal Description:
I have tutored and mentored students for the last 7 years, helping to achieve their personal, academic and sporting goals, with the added benefit of being able to offer my insight working in recruitment for the Financial Services in London.

I previously received offers to study Medicine at University, and have always helped students to do their very best and in their subjects, to fulfil their aims and long-term plans for their future career.

I following an active gym & sporting lifestyle outside of the workplace, and encourage this as a key component in maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and for overall development - I have seen numerous instances where a more active lifestyle promotes healthier living, happier living and, ultimately, better academic results.

Teaching Experience:

My core tutoring experience is focused around GCSE Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and Mathematics, for all examination boards.

Previence experience has also included:

- AS/A2 Biology & Mathematics
- GCSE English, German & Latin (for all UK Examination Boards)
- Primary and Secondary school (pre-GCSE) examinations
- Entrance examinations - for primary and second schools (including verbal & non-verbal reasoning)
- Tennis coaching from 2005 - 2007; group and 1-to-1 lessons for children aged 4-15
- UCAS application forms, personal statements, job applications, CV writing, preparation for online assessments

I have successfully helped prepared students for Entrance Exams, primary and secondary school examinations, GCSEs, A-levels (A2 and AS), helping to reach their and - in a number of cases - exceed their academic expectations/predicted grades.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has a different personality, and will have specific ways of learning suited to them. Recognising this, my approach is personalised, friendly and supportive, with the focus on getting the best for the individual student.

The approach I take is simply not sitting down for an hour or 90minutes, following a rigid academic syllabus; from my own experience, a student's academic career and development at this age plays a massive part in their future development and experiences in the working world.

My approach is take on the combined role of a tutor and mentor, relating their academic goals to their own day-to-day lives as a whole, and future aspirations of the students that I work with - again, being able to offer my own insight as a Recruiter.

Furthermore, effectively "bridging the gap" as a key point of contact between the student & their respective parents/guardians is crucial; I liaise regularly with parents and guardians of my students, keeping them up-to-date with the tutoring sessions, and how best to encourage positive development of their child, both academically and personally.

September 2014: Hi jas - really sorry to let you know so late but Alfie got 3 B's for each of his sciences! He only just missed an A for chemistry. He is absolutely delighted despite schools wish for A's. Thank you for all your help - there is no doubt it made a huge difference to him. You were a total star to him - and the summer has been good to him - his confidence is finally starting to improve & I think it's a lot down to your encouragement and believing in him. We went away just after getting the results - my biggest apologies for being so slow to get news to you. Very best wishes, kris

Personal Description:
LLB Law graduate from Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Law School, with experience in both LexisNexis and WestLaw databases. I am an innovative, driven individual with an eye for detail and pragmatic approach towards problems. I am a full time student and work part-time to support my family thus I am capable of bearing great responsibility, achieving targets and delivering to tight deadlines. Now I am intending to embark my theoretical legal knowledge on more practical legal orientated projects and continue personal development.

I also have extensive knowledge in chemistry, biology, maths and physics. During my GCSE's and A-levels i won a award as gifted and talented in Mathematics. My Results speak for themselves:

GCSE's : All A's
A-levels: ABBb in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

However i decided a career in Law would be more suitable for me hence i chose a change to Law which i find challenging but enjoyable.

Teaching Experience:

I have quite a lot of training teaching students ranging from 11 year olds doing their 11+ from A-level students studying for their final A2 exams in Chem, Bio, Maths.

Many of my students in the past have recommended me to other family and friends and references can be provided. I have also worked with less able students where they were predicted C's but i boosted them up to B's when they got their results! That is a extremely happy moment for my self as well as the student.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly approach. I always carry out a brief assessment at the start and target weak areas as students have different learning styles and theirs no point me to teach visually even though the student is a audio/kinaesthetic learner. Doing the brief test will allow me to completely maximize the time i spend with the student transferring all of my knowledge and key skills to the student. Additionally homework is always set after each session and is based upon the work carried out during the session to help reinforce the material covered.

Personal Description:
I am currently employed full time by a major international pharmaceutical company. I volunteer with STEMNET to teach science and maths lessons in school, encouraging young children to have more of an interest in these subjects and introducing them to potential career opportunities. I have a number of students at the moment in Hertfordshire and Essex, and enjoy tuition very much as I have a keen Interest in the subjects I teach and like to share that with others.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for the past two years, and have great recommendations from my students. Previously I would tutor adhoc for friends and family, but enjoyed it so much that I decided to make it more official.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that all students are different and have different study needs. I like to take time to get to know the student and understand their difficulties. I know that for the most part students seek tuition because conventional education methods have failed them and so they need a more tailored approach, and the time to find their own way into the topic.

Personal Description:
I am a University student currently studying undergraduate Psychology at Staffordshire University.
I am reliable, friendly and very enthusiastic about teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored GCSE level and below students while studying for GCSE's as well as while studying for my A-Levels informally.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that students don`t all think the same way and what method of learning might work for one student may not work for all students. I try as much as I can to cater to individuals to ensure they get the most out of my sessions.
I believe that with the right teaching and motivation, students can gain appreciation for any subject and enjoy rather than just endure the learning process.

10+ years of teaching experience
Highly experienced and qualified

Proven track record of improved student performance

Teaching Experience:

I am passionate about teaching and have taught a number of courses to school and college students. As a lecturer at the University of Delhi, India I have taught science to students at the undergraduate level. I also have 10+ years of tutoring experience (science and maths) to students ranging from KS1 to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

My interest in teaching is a result of passion for the subjects I teach. My teaching method involves invoking the student's intellectual curiosity in order to keep them engaged. I believe in encouraging students to revise what has been done earlier with them. I also focus a lot of my time on preparing students for the exams. My tutoring is result oriented and has been much appreciated by my previous students. I place particular emphasis on rigour and repetition and make sure I point out the mistakes students commonly make that can cost them valuable marks in the examinations. Listening carefully to pupils, analysing their responses and responding constructively in order to take student's learning forward are the in my view, the key to a student's success. I am patient with students when they don't understand concepts and encourage them to share their thoughts even when they come up with the incorrect answers.

For many students, a more individualised approach to learning may be more appropriate. For students that are lagging behind, one-to-one tutoring can boost their confidence and give them a track record of success. For students who are already doing well, my tutoring offers the scope for fine-tuning exam and revision techniques. It is an established fact that even with the smaller classes, teachers cannot always give all their pupils the attention they need. This means that all too often any misunderstandings go unexpressed and are carried forward unaided. My tutoring methodology ensure that I can personalize my lesson plan to the abilities of the student. I am able to gauge the level of their understanding, and, more importantly, track down the sources of misunderstanding, and deal with them effectively. I also try and provide students with an alternative approach to solve problems whenever possible. I ask for regular feedback from students, and that helps me tailor my lessons to suits their specific needs. Whatever the end goal, one-to-one tutoring by me offers enormous benefits to students. I have had encouraging responses from the students I have taught in the past as a testament of my effective tutoring methodology.
