Personal Description:
I am an independent tutor with a strong scientific background and have lived in England since Aug 1965. Most of my school and college education took place in Dudley (West Midlands) and I studied Biochemistry, at Leeds University (1975-8). I am married and have lived in Cheshire since Dec 1978. We have a son and a daughter; both graduated from Universities in Manchester. Following my voluntary redundancy from AstraZeneca, (Jun 2008), I am now a self-employed Tutor / Consultant. In addition, I am able to speak additional languages (Punjabi; studied up to GCE A-level and Hindi) and prepared to travel up to 5 miles. I have been tutoring Yr 7 - 13 students, in Maths and all Science subjects, since Oct 2008. In addition, I have prepared students from Yr 6, for the 11+ exams; frequently used by private schools, as entrance exams. Testimonials / References (from Students and Parents) are available, on request.

Teaching Experience:

During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In the past, I have also been responsible for organising and running the weekly classes at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara), for teaching youngsters the Sikh way of life & Punjabi culture, in helping to improve their knowledge and integration into the Western Society over a period of ten years.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide tuition to individual students (or small groups) in the form of friendly, relaxed lessons. Teaching sessions are always customised to meet the specific requirement of the students. Generally, I enjoy teaching and considered to have a caring approach. I use a combination of computer and 'white board' based approach, for creating informal interactive / discussion type sessions, with some form of regular tests and re-cap sessions. Closer to the exams, the lessons are much more focused on using past papers covering a wide range of questions, to enable the students increase their confidence in preparation for the examinations.

Personal Description:
Hi all, I'm Ben a 26 year old full time private tutor. I've been working as a private tutor now for 5 years and they have flown by! Tutoring is not just a job to me it's a passion. I'm a laid back guy who's friendly and easy to talk to, I pride myself in my interpersonal skills as well as my academic knowledge I believe both are equally important for tutors to have.

I graduated from Kings College Cambridge University in June '08 with a B.A hons in Natural Sciences, having attended the Brooksbank school and 6th form where I achieved 3 A's and 2 B's at A-level in Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and General Studies. I have been employed by Calderdale Council since July '08 working with children and young people in various roles. I started tutoring as a hobby as it has always given me great satisfaction and enjoyment as well as keeping me in touch with subject that I intend to get back into one day. In June '10 I left my post with Calderdale Council and now work full time as a tutor doing a job I adore.

For my hobbies I enjoy swimming, playing football, DJing, gigging and playing in bands.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally since January '09 and in the period until June'13 I have had the privilege of tutoring more than 100 students spread across all the subjects that I offer. I have taught all abilities ranging from oxford/cambridge applicants to students just wanting to pass the subject, no matter what you're level is I'll work as hard as I can to insure you get best results possible. I have worked full time as a tutor since September '10 meaning that I have been able to dedicate all my time, effort and focus into making sure that all my students excel.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my experience I have found that students learn much better when they are relaxed and comfortable. This has led me to adopt a laid back and informal approach to ensure that the learning environment maximises the tutees ability to learn. I understand that everyone has individual needs and learns differently and because of this I am very adaptable in the way I teach. I focus my lessons on two main areas: the first involves making sure the tutee has a firm understanding of the topic and all the principles that are involved within it removing any misconceptions that would hamper further progress. The second area works on the tutees technique working with them to ensure they can understand, digest and answer questions.

Due to my passion for teaching it gives me the drive to go the extra mile to make sure that all my students fulfill their aspirations. I have helped my previous students with University applications, coursework, interviews, CV's and job applications. Due to working full time as a tutor now I am able to offer constant support for all my tutees so I am able to help whenever they need it.

Personal Description:
I've recently qualified as a secondary science teacher with psychology from the University of Exeter. I now work in a secondary college in London teaching science, maths and psychology. I previously graduated from the University of Leeds with a Bsc in psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified secondary teacher. I have spent a year teaching primary english in France. I have taught karate and tennis to children. I have volunteered at an after school programme in Leeds teaching basic numercay and literacy. I was also a mentor for first year students when in my final year at university.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not have a set approach. I will tailor my tutoring around the tutees needs as I am aware everyone learns differently. Some people learn better from visual explantions therefore in this situation if I was teaching for example photosynthesis, I would perhaps use a plant, some water, a lamp to demonstrate this process simply.

Personal Description:
A highly effective teacher; experienced, well organised, motivated, enthusiastic, with good sense of humour.

I establish rapport with my students. In my long career in teaching, I have learned how to make the most complex concepts in science 'digestible'. My motto is: 'Excellence in Education'.

I am a member of Pi Lambda Theta (International Honour Society for Educators).

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Teacher / Lecturer, and have taught Biology and Chemistry for over thirty years in Secondary, and Further/Higher Education in the US, the EU, and the UK. I have taught the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and the International Baccalaureate specifications.

In addition to teaching students, I have trained teachers, as well.

Tutoring Approach:

While my Bachelor's Degree is in Biology and Chemistry, my Master's Degree is in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, which means I have trained in designing and delivering effective lesson plans, as well as a complete curriculum. I design my instruction taking into account the student's learning style. The 'one size fits all' type of teaching is responsible for the failure of many students. Every student can learn and can do well, provided the teaching style accommodates the student's learning style, and there are no 'gaps' in what is prerequisite knowledge for taking a certain course.

Knowledge builds on pre-existing knowledge. I make certain that my students really understand and appreciate that. I diagnose any 'gaps' in content knowledge that my students may have, and I 'fill' them, providing a solid foundation for my students to build on.

Study skills, which figure prominently in my teaching, and exam technique, along with a well-rounded, in-depth knowledge of content, provide the key to success.

At the end of the course, my students not only do they have what they need to tackle the Biology or Chemistry Exam, but also a wealth of learning skills which they can apply to other subjects as well, and which they will find essential in all their future academic studies.

Educational technology supplements my instruction. The content in every session is presented on PowerPoint with quality images. I clarify every point and make certain my student has 'grasped' the present concept before I proceed with the next. Where appropriate, the PPT presentation is followed by a brief video which makes the content 'come alive'. My PowerPoint presentations, as well as my notes on PDF or Word files are available for my students after the lesson.

I finish the lesson practicing exam - style questions. It goes without saying that regular revision is important, and I provide my students with lots of past exam papers.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with experience of teaching and tutoring maths, biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and physics to A-level. Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a university researcher coaching undergraduates in their final year projects and then as a teaching assistant in a secondary school providing small group and one to one tuition tailored for the needs of individual students. I also have experience in preparing candidates for 11+ school examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Following eight years working in university education, I have spent sevenyears working in secondary schools including two years as a teaching assistant, providing small group and one to one tuition, one year working towards my PGCE and a further four years as a fully qualified teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carefully evaluate the learning needs of each individual student, looking at their existing knowledge, strengths and weaknesses to provide a structured approach to the tuition sessions.

I provide a friendly, positive approach to teaching maths and science to build confidence in subjects that some students find daunting. By exploring the underlying meaning behind concepts that may cause difficulties, I aim to improve understanding and help the student gain confidence in their own ability to learn.

For students taking examinations, I ensure a thorough preparation by focusing on exam technique and concentrating on past examination questions and analysis of mark schemes to allow students to achieve the best results that they are capable of.

For students preparing for 11+ examinations I focus on building confidence in key skills needed for success, using a variety of strategies and activities tailored for the particular exams that the student will be taking.

Personal Description:
Hello!

If you want to be taught by a qualified and practising teacher, then you've come to the right place.

I have had many students, throughout my years in teaching, move several grades higher with my support and guidance.

If you want to learn how to gain marks in preparation for an exam; if you want quality teaching, as opposed to quantity, then you've come to the right place.

I am a qualified teacher with years of experience and I am currently in a school in Enfield. I have taught in many schools across London, and for some years now I have also been working for Edexcel as an assessment associate (which means I mark and grade official exams). I am very clear on how marks are awarded in exams and I have had many students improve a grade or two just by understanding how marks in an exam are gained - one of the benefits of being a practising teacher.

I graduated from Imperial College and I have a versatile and friendly personality and have had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students who function below, on, and above curriculum level. I have been very successful in accommodating diverse student needs by facilitating all styles of learning - offering individualised and extracurricular support, and integrating effective materials.

Further Maths A-level is a specialism of mine: Core maths, Mechanics, Statistics, and Decision maths.

As well as doing one-to-one classes, I am able to offer group classes for which fees are negotiable.

Please bear in mind that time spent with a qualified teacher will add more value to your understanding and education, than time spent with non-qualified tutors.

Teaching Experience:

I have 8 years' experience in teaching KS3, GCSE and A-level and I am currently a practising teacher in Enfield.

Tutoring Approach:

My objective as a teacher is to make concepts of education clear amongst my students in a fun-filled manner and to have a unique approach to teaching and learning. Learning is dynamic and learning is fun. I really don't like it when I see my students bored - this is why I prefer to be flexible.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic individual with a strong academic background and good teaching experience. I have a 1st class degree in Biology from the University of Leeds (for which I graduated first in my year). After working in the field of conservation and media I went on to complete a PhD in Environmental Anthropology at UCL.

I have a genuine passion for teaching and find it extremely rewarding inspiring students to reach their potential.

Please note that at the moment I am only available for intensive catchup/revision sessions during the summer holidays (July/August 2014) I also do one off sessions in interview training, particularly for those applying to universities.

Teaching Experience:

After finishing 'A' levels I worked as a lab technician at Villier's High School in Southall, where I was often asked to demonstrate practicals to GCSE students. As an undergraduate in Leeds I mentored GCSE students who were struggling academically. During my PhD I taught undergraduate courses on Human Ecology. I have always managed to successfully engage the students with the course material, and have been commended by students and other staff members for my teaching abilities.

Recently I have worked as a teaching assistant for the Department of Anthropology at UCL. I also worked for the Information Services Department training postgraduates and staff in using different computer software packages. I have just finished a short-term contract working as an associate lecturer at Oxford Brookes University. I am currently tutoring two GCSE students in maths and combined science and one in 'A' level biology.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a strong communicator and have a flare for teaching complex ideas in a simple concise way. I like to make learning as fun as possible and try to link real world examples to the material at hand. I am good at quickly identifying a student's strengths and weaknesses; enabling me to instill confidence in strength areas while addressing any gaps that may be present. I realize each student is different and I respond sensitively to each individual's needs concerning pace and learning style, at the same time making sure all the material is covered.

Personal Description:
I am a very positive person and have full empathy with students barriers to learning.
I am friendly and approachable and like to aim to raise student self-esteem and attitude to learning, focusing on positive recognition of achievements and constructive reinforcement of learning strategies.

I work just as easily with adults as I do with children.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 30 years of teaching experience teaching from pre schoo level up to GCSE level and adult learning for returning to work.

I also teach children within the care system who have missed a lot of the early building blocks through lack of education as opposed to lack of ability. This also includes overcoming huge barriers to learning !

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to develop an individual learning strategy to accomodate the students learning style and empower them to achieve and gain confidence through a positive learning programme suited to their individual style and needs.

Personal Description:
I am currently a 3rd year Medical student at St George's University of London.
My first Degree was in Theatre Studies at Middlesex University, where I graduated in 2005 with 2.1 BA(Hons).
I am a patient and encouraging Biology and Chemistry tutor in Wimbledon with a strong passion for science and medicine.
Having achieved a grade of 594/600 (99%) in my chemistry A-level and 587/600 (98%) in my biology A-level I am aware of what it takes to get great grades.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years experience teaching a wide range of students from secondary school age to private mature students. I have tutored students in both Chemistry and Biology GCSE, AS and A-level on a one-to one basis as well as in small group settings. In addition to this I taught English in Japan for over 3 years.

Tutoring Approach:

While there is no substitute for hard work,my aim as a tutor is to try and create a fun, encouraging environment with a clear study path that allows students to enjoy what they are studying.
I personally believe that students have a greater chance of success when they are guided by a tutor that enjoys teaching and is passionate about the subject.

At the first meeting I will have a discussion with the parents and student regarding which areas need attention so that I am able to plan my sessions. I also have a strong emphasis on use of past paper questions as well as exam board styled answers as this ensures that you get maximum points for the exam you are sitting.

Personal Description:
My name is Marie-Jeanne, and I'm a Canadian and French national back in the UK to pursue a Master's Degree in Islamic Art and Architecture at SOAS of the University of London.

My educational history confirms my knowledge and understanding of both the British and Canadian systems. As a child, I studied in Canada, but I completed my GCSEs in Oxfordshire, before returning to Canada to finish school in an International Baccalaureate program, to accommodate my love of visual arts and playing the trombone.

During my GCSE's the Edexcel exam board congratulated me for receiving on of the top 5 marks of all exam takers (150000) in English Literature. I also won the English Award at school that year, and started a student council that I was voted president of. I graduated with 10 A* grades and an unfortunate B in IT. When I finished high school, I attended university in Montreal at McGill, a university consistently ranked as one of the top universities internationally. There, I studied Middle Eastern Studies and Art History, and I received a bachelors degree of First Class Honors with Distinction. I also edited an interdisciplinary journal and was the undergraduate president of my department, while playing in a jazz band and singing in a classical choir.

But school isn't everything. In my spare time I have a number of hobbies that bring me immense happiness. When I can, I enjoy painting, cooking, writing, and playing music.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years, I have been teaching in the private school system in Cairo, Egypt. Most of my students spoke English as a second language, so I focused specifically on making things as clear and simple as possible. I also learned Arabic so that I could explain grammatical intricacies of English in the Arabic language better.

From 2011-2012, I taught in the American Division of Nefertari School, teaching 10th grade English literature. I tailored my curriculum to deal with the themes of Post-Colonialism, gender, and growing older. I taught 5 classes of 25 students. With my focus on reading comprehension, I brought 87% of my students up two reading grade levels by the end of the scholastic year.

The following year I taught at St. Fatima School in the British section. I was a grade 4 class teacher, and taught the entirety of the curriculum, save Art, PE and Music. I tried to make my curriculum as interactive and integrative as possible. During these two years, I also tutored students that needed remedial attention outside of class. I have also taught art to students between the ages of 5-12.

Tutoring Approach:

A tutor needs to be intuitive and flexible to the needs of the student so that they can make the most of their time together. Everyone learns differently, and at a different pace. By communicating with, and working with a student, I can understand how best they can glean the information I'm sharing with them, and how they can most benefit from the time spent.

In terms of resources, I try to incorporate the broadest range possible: multimedia, IT, music and various written and visual tools to get the message across. I also think it's crucial to make the subject interesting, which means asking and answering broader questions: why is this subject engaging/ fascinating to me? How can I make it so?

Personal Description:
I am a PhD oceanography postgraduate at the University of Southampton. I`m half Lebanese/half Brasilian staying in Southampton so I know 4 different languages. I`ve worked as a professional private tutor in sciences/math abroad for more than 4 years whereby I have tutored more than 120 school and university students. Subsequently, I`ve grown a firm grasp of what tutees of various classes, ages, and intellectual levels need and what approach should be abided by within progressive sessions according to how fast a tutee can learn. Nothing says more about a person than experience and you would get to know me better once we meet, hopefully. I almost always offer tutoring at homes as opposed to having the burden of travelling on the tutee. For more info on the subjects I offer please check my profile!

Teaching Experience:

I've worked as a private tutor for 5 years (2008-2012) with more than 120 teenagers ranging from 10 till secondary high school level at the ages of 18 and first two years of college. I've been tutoring in Maths/chemistry/physics/biology for ages 10-15 and mostly chemistry and biology for older students as my undergraduate studies were in Biology and chemistry, and my masters is in general Oceanography, which spans around chemistry, physics, and mostly biology too!

I've been tutoring for the past years out of passion to educate and transfer the knowledge to whomever is interested in retaining and and exceling at a certain subject. The subjects I offer are ones I've practiced before, be it in tutoring at a primary school/highschool level or practically in my Masters degree which include an interdisciplinary variety of subjects, mainly chemistry, biology and physics. With an undergrad of general biology accompanied with a long experience of chemical studies I can assure you you'll be satisfied with the value-for-price that you are paying.

Tutoring Approach:

I will generally take the first meeting to get to know the learner and talk with them one on one about their needs and their perception of their needs. If the learner is a child I will then talk to their parents separately about their child`s needs and behavior toward learning and general attitude toward an academic environment. I take personalized care of each student of mine, tailoring each experience depending on the need. I will generally find supplementary material to work with the student in tutor time. Again, I will do this depending on the particular situation of the tutee. I will be there to help complete homework, provide additional less or more rigorous material, provide study skills, help study, provide writing skills and practice, language immersion, progress reports for parents and teachers for child tutees, and most importantly a constant helping and supportive contact for those in need of help at any time. I take great care of my students as a tutor and my unwavering goal is to help students grow and learn academically and personally and give them the tools to maintain these skills, be it through their next exam or their life. Tutoring and helping is my passion and my utilitarian approach to tutoring is varying based on each individual`s needs but is based upon unwavering and constant support.

Teaching Experience:

I presently work as the Assistant Head of Science responsible for Chemistry at a school in London. I teach sciences at KS3, KS4 and deliver the 'A' Level Chemistry curriculum at KS5. I am now in my fourth year of teaching in a secondary school, having received successful school lesson and OFSTED observations. This has allowed me to progress rapidly and reach the position in which I am now. Whilst at University, I was regularly involved in helping young people with their studies through charities and other voluntary companies.

Tutoring Approach:

As a practising teacher, I am aware that all pupils will have their individual needs. That is why my approach will always vary depending on the needs of the pupil. However, generically speaking, we will need to work together to identify areas of weakness and then address those specific issues in order for progress to be made.

Personal Description:
I am a PhD candidate at University College London (UCL), the Advanced Centre for Biochemical Engineering (ACBE). Currently working on perfusion impact on retinal differentiation of Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (hiPSCs) using Microfluidics. During my undergraduate studies I spend a summer at NBT Corp. where I worked on Bioflash, an effective product that promises to play a major role in fight against malaria. I later on joined the Pasteur Institute, where I worked on a collaborative project with the Eastern Mediterranean health Genomics and Biotechnology Network (EMHGBN) as part of WHO/EMRO to expand the network throughout the region. I received my BSc in Biotechnology from UCL in 2008 and continued my studies towards a Masters degree in Nanotechnology & Regenerative Medicine at UCL Medical School Department of Surgery. During my Masters I worked on designing a nanostructured scaffold for Tissue Engineered Trachea. The scaffold was transplanted into patient as the world's first synthetic trachea transplant on 7th of July 2011 at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Teaching is a passion for me and I enjoy helping others achieve the best of what they can be. I believe teaching is an art as much it is a combination of techniques both for student and teacher to interact, hence helping in transfer of a knowledge and most importantly a way of thinking.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring in Biology, Chemistry and Maths all the way throughout my studies to individuals and groups.

Tutoring Approach:

Mostly depends on the tutees and their goal and how they best learn a subject. The value of hard work cannot be underestimated though and I expect the highest from my students. I am very creative in my approach and open to suggestions by tutees and parents. There are certain methods that has been proved to work but I believe every person is different and thus the approach should be different. I'd like to spend the first half hour of my first session to get to know the student, find out what are their needs and agree on the best method to proceed.
