| Personal Description: I am a recent graduate of a MSc in Chemistry from Wake Forest University. I am native from Mexico but I have lived in an English speaking country for more than 3 years. I am currently living in Edinburgh and saving some money for the next step in my career which is to study a PhD in Chemistry. I am responsible, hardworking, friendly and very organised. I greatly enjoy both Sciences and Teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I have two years of experience in teaching Spanish to kids (7-12 years old), for whom I tailored my lessons to perfectly fit their needs and interests in order to make it both educational and really fun. One of the greatest satisfactions of this experience was when one of my students took a Spanish exam and got into an advanced level thanks to my sessions. I also worked two full years as a teaching assistant in general and organic chemistry laboratories during my Chemistry Master's Degree at Wake Forest University. I was in charge not only of the preparation of material for the laboratory, but also of the tutoring of students in the theory of the experiments during and after the sessions. I was also in charge of grading reports and exams. The main satisfaction of this job was the opportunity to have an influence in the interest of students towards science. |
Tutoring Approach: Above all, I always try to empathise with the person I am tutoring, this brings me much closer to the needs of my students. I always plan my classes ahead and put as much thought as I possibly can to make the session both interesting and efficient. I try to motivate my students and improve the quality not only of the subject knowledge but also of the learning tools. I have realised that throughout teaching and tutoring I achieve the most profound need of my heart which is to serve others, and I am always willing to serve with the best of my abilities. Feedback from past tutees "Very well prepared, knows exactly what I need, and is willing to travel to me! highly recommended". Kerry (College Spanish tuition) "My 13 year old son received excellent support from Montserrat. She was always punctual and very well prepared for class. He gained in confidence and her teaching helped him greatly. Highly recommended." Shirley (Sciences tuition) |

| Personal Description: I am a 22 year old female who has recently completed her first degree, BSc Hons in Applied Marine Biology (2.1) at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. I have always been fascinated with biology from an early age and found I had a talent for it when I reached High School. In my standard grades I achieved grades 1-2 for all of my 8 subjects which included Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I then went on to do 5 Highers (Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and English) and Advanced Higher Biology. Since leaving University, I have demonstrated in some classes and I am currently applying for teacher training (secondary) as I would like to bring the passion I have for science to the next generations. I am friendly and approachable, with a broad knowledge of Biology and how the SQA system operates. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience demonstrating at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Here I explained the theory behind the tasks to enable my group to contribute to the overall classes results. Throughout my last few years at High School I also scribed and aided students in some classes, as well as assisting in the laboratories. I also took part in the paired reading program, helping lower years with their literacy skills. |
Tutoring Approach: I would like to make my tuition fun by not just helping my students learn what they need to know to pass their test, but to add to it with exciting up-to-date facts that are relevant to their subject. I have found if given information as examples students retain it for longer. I would provide structured classes around the needs of the pupil to allow them to have time to understand all aspects of the course whilst keeping them motivated. |

| Personal Description: I am an enthusiastic biology graduate looking to pass on my expertise and love of biology to help students reach their goals. I love to teach and I have received a lot of positive feedback from my past students. Aside from tutoring I am in my third year of graduate medicine at Liverpool university and spend my spare time playing all manner of sports. I also play the piano, oboe and guitar. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions; I try to be as accommodating as possible and matters such as group rates can be discussed. |
Teaching Experience: I have several years experience tutoring from classroom to small group to one-to-one sessions. I have tutored biology privately in the UK, but also taught biology to prospective medical students in the U.S. for The Princeton Review. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is designed around the individual learning needs of the student. This means the style of tutoring or the material which needs to be covered is of optimum use so that students' interests are heightened and no time is wasted. With that in mind, I do like the student to take part as much as possible. I believe there is no better test for understanding than if a person can explain concepts in their own words or apply understood principles to novel situations. I also encourage any questions that the student might have. |

Tutoring Approach: I like to challenge people, to concentrate on areas in which people are unsure-there is no point learning something you already know! |

| Personal Description: I am head of science in a school in Suffolk, I am married with two daughters and live in Elmswell which is a village between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. I am 44 years old and have always had a keen interest in science and maths, have also worked as an examiner for a major exam board during the past 10 years which has provided valuable experience. My main leisure pursuits are music (piano and trombone) and reading. |
Teaching Experience: I qualified as a secondary teacher in 1994 and have taught in a variety of schools (rising to head of department), I have tutored on a one to one basis with considerable success for the past 7 years and none of my students have ever got less than their minimum target. I enjoy good relations with students and parents and help all my pupils overcome any difficulties they may encounter. |
Tutoring Approach: All students are advised to buy a relevant workbook and revision guide specific to the subject and board taken. As the exams get nearer they need to also obtain practice papers with answers to work through to generate confidence. When tuition takes place relevant work is normally set and the student encouraged to check work for themselves and highlight any difficulties in the next session which can be carefully reviewed with the tutor. This approach particularly uses time most effectively and helps focus on correcting errors and misconceptions. Pupils gain great confidence and soon start to make rapid progress. Tutor sessions can be arranged in a very flexible way to suit the needs of the student. |

| Personal Description: I am a recent graduate from University of Durham. I have graduated with honors in Biology and Mathematics within the Natural Sciences program. I am able to tutor Biology, Geography and Mathematics up to GCSE level, with Mathematics up to A-Level standard if required. I have achieved 5 As at A level and am familiar with the current National Curriculum. I am easy-going and friendly. |
Teaching Experience: I have 2 years experience private tutoring for students up to GCSE level. All students I have tutored achieved, or bettered their predicted grades. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very patient and offer tailored lessons to students, aiming primarily at increasing the students' confidence in the subject area. At junior levels, students would be taught the fundamentals of the subject area to either complement the material taught in school or to prepare them for more advanced material in the future. At GCSE level, the focus would be on examination preparation. Students would be taught effective ways to improve examination techniques. Lessons would be tailored individually, geared towards areas of the syllabus where extra attention is required. Work would be set at the end of each session, which aims to consolidate the key ideas learnt during the tutoring session. I am dedicated to helping students achieving their personal best. |

| Personal Description: I am a young, lively and dynamic, recently graduated first class Biology graduate from the world renowned University of Bristol. I have an advanced level of knowledge about Biological Sciences and find it extremely interesting at all levels. As a result I have the ability to inspire people about the subject and am able to breakdown complex information in order to teach effectively so that students gain a thirst for knowledge and want to learn. I am friendly and approachable and have a passion for teaching others and helping students to feel confident and enjoy learning. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as a mentor for GCSE age children, giving them advice on revision techniques and supporting them with their studies via email.
