Teaching Experience:

Qualification-wise, I've got A for Mathematics & Physics at A-Level, obtained MA Mathematics (Hons) from Edinburgh University and MSc Mathematics from King's College London.
Experience-wise, I've become a private tutor for three years now and I had taught over 200 students. The subject include mathematics, physics and mandarin. Range from KS3 to degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

For the mathematics and physics teaching, I believe the conceptional understanding is much more important than memorize the method. Once the concept has been absorbed, the method of solving problem become rather trivial. Of course to maximize the efficiency of learning, an interests in the subject is essential. Hence I'd like to increase the students engagement by given information on more practical use of the knowledge or more news on advanced study.

Note: for people asking for university level maths. I will ask lecture notes or at least syllabus. Though undergraduate maths is taught at similar level, there are variation for each modules due to each lecturers' style. Just list a module name hardly tells what topics are required to study. Lecture notes are used to see the way that particular lecture taught, otherwise give me a syllabus I shall use my own lecture notes.

My approach to tutoring is to help the student understand the subject, and not only understand the subject but also how the subject is applied in real life, and indeed to their own lives. I have found this really helps the student to be able to grasp the subject.

We all want exam results, but I like the students to understand what we are doing as this way they get skills that will stay with them long after the exams are over.

I have tutored secondary school students in the sciences, mathematics and French (I am bilingual in French and English) since 2012. This builds on my volunteering as an Academic Buddy at university and as a mentor for special needs children, as well as giving academic help to peers throughout school and university. With an excellent scientific background (I graduated with a 2:1 in Physics from Imperial College London in 2012) and my empathetic, patient, encouraging and conscientious nature, I greatly enjoy adapting my approach to different pupils' needs and personalities. This September I will begin studying Medicine at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry after spending 2 years tutoring and gaining experience in the medical field.

In my spare time I love to sing (I have sung in several choirs at school and university and done some backing vocals in an Indie band), listening to many different types of music and playing the guitar and piano. I also hugely enjoy exercise such as rowing (including very early morning sessions!) and going for long runs. My other interests are cooking, drawing, painting and reading.

I have tutored mathematics, the sciences and French for secondary school students from year 7 to year 13 since 2012. My tutoring experience includes year-long tuition supporting pupils' learning throughout the academic year for Physics and Further Mathematics A Level, lower secondary and GCSE Mathematics and Chemistry and Physics GCSE. I have also given several intensive revision sessions in the holiday period for GCSE and iGCSE in Mathematics, French and the sciences (both the separate sciences and double award). I also gain great satisfaction from using my bilingualism to tutor French up to and including GCSE level. I find pupils particularly enjoy learning French first-hand from someone who has grown up in France and experienced the French education system.

I enjoy explaining concepts in a clear and logical way and breaking down complex processes into easily understood steps. Throughout my Physics degree I have gained experience in presenting difficult topics in an accessible way.
I very much believe in making sure tutees actually understand the concept behind topics, as once they have grasped the concept they are able to apply it to other areas and to tackle trickier questions by themselves, and gain much more satisfaction than they would from pure rote learning.
I have a calm, patient and encouraging attitude towards my tutees and use my empathy to adapt my approach to suit each pupil's personality and learning style, whether they need help with the basics, stretching with tougher questions or encouragement in an area they are less confident in.

I'm a physics student entering my fourth and final year of my Physics MSci degree at Imperial College London having achieved first class results in all three years so far and ranking within the top 10% of my year. Alongside my physics studies, I'm an active musician - a member of the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra, Imperial College Big Band and former member of the NYOW - and an aspiring software developer.

Teaching Experience:

Since beginning 6th form, I have tutored local secondary and primary school students privately, arranged official after-school revision sessions for GCSE students with my school friends, partaken in numeracy schemes for younger secondary school students requiring additional assistance, and was required to present topics, such as energy wastage, to KS3 classes as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate (which I also passed but was unable to fit in the Qualifications section below).

In my second year of university, I enrolled in a Communicating Physics course which entailed visiting, teaching in and providing teaching resources for a London secondary school for a period of 11 weeks. This is also indicative of my continuing enjoyment of, sharing my understanding and passion for my subjects with younger students.

I qualified as a Key Stage 2/3 Teacher with Maths Subject Specialism from Homerton College, Cambridge in 2002. I have gained a variety of teaching experience both in mainstream and special needs as well as home tutoring. I worked for 8 years at a school for children with behavioural and emotional difficulties and have experience with ADHD, Autistic Spectrum and Attachment Disorder. I have done a lot of work with children in the Looked After System.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Liam. Having recently passed my GCSs with 8 A*s and 2 As, I feel there is an opportunity here to use these grades and my knowledge to tutor others. My passion is Music, and I am an amateur musician who focuses around composition, music theory, and playing the guitar. However, I have similar interest in other subjects, such as History, Chemistry, and Maths. In fact, I am studying these four subjects at A Level currently.

Teaching Experience:

At school, I have always been the one in class chosen to help the other students when I am finished in my own work.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that a friendly approach is necessary, as well as an individual one - an unconventional one. I wouldn't consider myself a "by-the-books" tutor, as I am willing to change and shape my methods to suit each and every specific tutee I will come across. Becuase we all know that everyone learns differently, and that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

Tutoring Approach:

Approach to tutoring depends on the level of my student and the purpose of learning Mandarin. For exam purpose I will be more focused on helping the student learn exam relating materials and help him/her improve through practicing. For beginner level, I will be focusing more on combining Chinese culture related knowledge with language learning so the student will have a better understanding of the linguistic and cultural difference and it will be a good base for future learning.

I have three years of tutoring experience in both primary and secondary English. I graduated with a double first in History from Queen Mary, University of London. Since then I have worked in communication and copywriting for two major charities, and am currently a freelance writer and voiceover artist for children's television.

Personal Description:
After spending some time working in the IT industry, including a spell being practically a one-man IT department for a small business, I discovered a love of - and I like to think a knack for - guiding and supporting the learning of others through teaching and training. Initially this was in the IT/Computer Science fields, but more recently I have diversified into Maths. Seeing the "lightbulb moment", when a learner finally conquers a problem, is an undoubted highlight of my job. Away from teaching, I am a music buff, and I also love to discover new places and meet new people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching professionally as a college lecturer since 2007 and privately since 2014, teaching Maths at KS3 and GCSE level, and IT from KS3 to BTEC Level 3. While I love the 'cut and thrust' of a classroom, I find private tuition to be particularly rewarding - being able to devote more time to each learner can make a real difference to those who might otherwise get overlooked in a large class, and only serves to increase yet further the satisfaction in seeing them succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

I can readily adapt teaching styles to fit the needs of individual learners. I recognise the importance of having a Plan B and trying different approaches to suit different learning styles. Learner input is more than welcome on this. If you know what techniques work well for you, feel free to let me know!

I am also a firm believer that successful learning depends on four main factors - hard work, willingness, perseverance and self-belief. Students often have plenty of the first three, but may lack a little of the latter. I see my role as being about encouragement as well as teaching, so as well as offering support and guidance, I will also encourage you to have confidence in your ability. Believe that you CAN succeed, and it becomes much more likely that you WILL.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about languages and I love every aspect about the process of language learning and teaching. Growing up I was always surrounded by books. My parents' personal library was incredibly diverse and spanned many genres of fiction and factual works, while also including classics of European and World literature. Exposure to such a wide variety of authors instilled in me a fascination with communication cross-culturally - which played a great role in my decision to enrol in a language degree. Since then, the training and experience that I have gained at different universities, in both the UK and abroad, have helped me develop a range of teaching methods meeting the needs of different learners. I firmly believe that teaching allows you to impart knowledge to others while also enabling you to grow as a person yourself.

Teaching Experience:

I am a native Italian speaker and a qualified teacher of Italian with more than 7 years of experience in teaching on both undergraduate courses at university level and evening classes for adults. I am currently running a number of classes on Italian language and literature at the University of Leicester, besides teaching for the university Adult Programme 'Languages at Leicester'. In 2013 I was awarded the prestigious American teaching scholarship, the Fulbright Assistantship, to teach at Wheaton College Massachusetts (U.S.) during the academic year 2013/2014. I am currently completing a PhD in Italian Studies at the University of Leicester and I hold a Masters in 'Teaching Italian as a Second Language' from Milan's Catholic University. Prior to moving to Leicester, in 2010-2011 I worked at the University of Kent, where I completed my teaching training as requirement of my Masters. I like to keep up-to-date with the latest trends in language teaching and I attend language conferences, either as a speaker or as audience, on a regular basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I always try to combine traditional methods with more innovative approaches, tending to regard the textbook as a tool to be integrated with fresh, lively and more personalised material, using visual stimuli (commercials and videos for example) as a way of enhancing this experience. I believe that these methods play a vital role in instilling practical communicative language skills that students can then reproduce in a creative and spontaneous way. I tend to follow a Communicative Approach, where the stress is on oral communication, while interactive student-centred learning is encouraged. Based on the acknowledgement that all communication has a social purpose, this approach focuses on language as a medium of communication. The aim is to guide students towards the acquisition of a notional/functional syllabus, inclusive of both notions (meanings and concepts to communicate) and the language needed to do so. The learning environment has to be a positive one, and with my tutees I always make sure that they regard me as somebody they can trust. My students have always responded positively to my teaching, which is reflected in the Award in Excellence in Service I received from the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at Wheaton College (U.S.) in 2014.
