Personal Description:
I am an experienced, friendly and approachable lady working on a freelance basis and am still involved with High School teaching in the Leeds area. I worked in industry before deciding to fulfil my ambition to become a teacher.

My experience as a private tutor has been extremely rewarding over the years and I have seen every one of my students go from strength to strength, and am proud to say that they have all enjoyed the one to one experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have twenty years' experience of teaching English in High Schools -class teaching and one to one tuition. My expertise also incorporates teaching English as a second language having gained a Trinity qualification in Barcelona.
Over the years I have had considerable success with a variety of students, improving achievement levels and GCSE grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly person who tries to make learning fun. I understand the frustrations of young people who are demotivated and struggling to make sense of the English curriculum. My view is that there has to be a two way process and I will encourage the student to develop independent learning skills.

Practising a holistic approach allows young people to achieve their full potential through an appropriate tailor-made study plan. This will support their individual needs and requirements for personal and educational development.

I am happy to teach students in my home or the student's-depending on distance. Travel expenses would be charged if not in my local area-LS17 (North Leeds).

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified English teacher, having studied English at Queen Mary University of London (BA hons 2.1). I completed my PGCE at The University of Nottingham in 2010. In 2014 I was awarded a Masters in Education from the University of Nottingham and currently I am Second in Charge of English at Reigate Grammar School in Surrey.

I am fully CRB certified.

Teaching Experience:

Primarily, I have taught in schools in the Midlands, London, and Surrey from KS3 to KS5 and an mow in my sixth year of teaching. Furthermore, I have taught English as a second language privately for just over four years and tutored GCSE and AS/A-Level students. I have knowledge of the iGCSE, AQA and WJEC exam boards for GCSE English Literature and Language and AS and A-Level Literatre. I am an examiner for the AQA and iGCSE English Literature paper. I also have experience tutoring the entrance exams for independent schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to ensure I teach the skills required of a subject rather than memorising facts. My lessons take the form of discussions, indicidual or group tasks, feedback, research and exam skills. We will build vocabulary, develop syntax and grammar and use past papers and model answers to develop written, comprehension and verbal skills.

I can provide print-outs, past papers and academic literature necessary for the subject.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxford graduate with a degree in English Literature and Spanish and I have been giving private tuition for the past five years. I am now working as an English teacher at an academy in South London. I have read an enormous range of literature and am familiar with the UK secondary curriculum.

I have lived in Madrid, Spain and Guadalajara, Mexico, as well as having spent time travelling in both countries. I love to share my passion of the Spanish language and explore the rich cultural and literary heritage of the Spanish-speaking world. I also pride myself on a fair knowledge of a variety of subjects, but am particularly interested in the arts, religion, languages and biological sciences.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience working with children of all ages, both in a pastoral and academic capacity. Aside from having worked as a private tutor and, latterly, a classroom teacher, I have worked variously - at home and abroad - as an au pair, a Teaching Assistant, a home-school teacher/governess, and a nanny. I have prepared students of all ages for examinations, specialising in English Language and Literature at GCSE, AS and A level and English as a Second/Foreign Language (IELTS).

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very hands-on person and I like to get my students to think and act for themselves. If they are unsure of how to do something I like to take them through it slowly, prompting them to ask the right questions rather than just giving them the answers. I try to be as creative as I can and to make the subject I am teaching interesting and applicable. I always seem to make my students laugh, but I do expect them to take learning seriously - I am quick to praise and reward but I make them work for it!

Personal Description:
Juan is a rare artist with a great deal of intellect and an in depth understanding of piano, composition and music technology. He has been linked to what he describes as a "marvelous instrument: the piano" since the tender age of three. Eight years later, he made his fist concert appearance in his hometown Estancia Santa María de La Armonía. Ever since, he has been a regular performer throughout the theater halls of Argentina, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom.

Teaching Experience:

8 years of one to one tutoring.
I have prepared students for all ABRSM and Trinity College exams including GRADES and DIPLOMAS with 100% success rate.
I also train other teachers entering for Masters at RCM and RAM. I believe in a modern approach to music learning that's why I encourage my students to develop a their own taste for music. I also give my students the option of start making their own videos here in my studio where I have all the necessary equipment.

Tutoring Approach:

Juan believes that people connect to music at different times of their lives. As you watch him work, it is stunning to observe how he can be involved in the details and never lose sight of the big picture. His approach to piano pedagogy is very unique, one which simultaneously combines music technology, playing, reading and writing.

As a piano tutor, his greatest challenge is to instigate a hidden and deep rooted spark within each of his protégés. He believes that everyone should learn at their own pace, and accommodates this by providing tailored programmes. He has been very successful in preparing students for the ABRSM and Guildhall Trinity Exams.

I have been teaching off and on for 25 years at tertiary and secondary levels. I have had several careers including being a Chartered Surveyor, lecturer, businessman and teacher. I have worked in the Caribbean, South America and Africa apart from the UK. I enjoy travelling, cycling and current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at tertiary level in all the above regions. Since returning to the UK, 10 years ago, I've been teaching at secondary level in mathematics, business and economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an easy going manner and approach all subjects in a simplictic and fundamental way. In particular to understand mathematics one needs to understand and know fundamentals and principles. From this learning can be achieved and confidence built to tackle any problem.
I am able to adapt my teaching to specific learning requirements and have experience in teaching foreign students or students whose first language is not English.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Zuri and I am an American MA History student at King's College London. I specialize in study skills, writing, history (particularly intersections of race, class, and gender), and voice! I am very interested in teaching voice lessons and I will be able to help with basic music theory as well as vocal coaching as I am a jazz, musical theater, and classical singer. If you have ever wanted to sing, but feel you lack the confidence or technique to do so, I would be glad to help. I don't have a piano, but I'd be happy to meet at a practice room in London, or just use backing tracks on my laptop. As far as history, writing, and study skills, I would be more than happy to edit essays, show you how to improve your arguments, and teach you more about the methods of studying history. I can travel anywhere the tubes will take me, but I prefer zones 1 and 2. We could easily meet at a library, coffee shop, or bookstore. Also, I am available Monday after 12pm and every other day except for Tuesdays!

Teaching Experience:

English as a foreign Language for Roeland (Belgian summer camps)-advanced English
Math and English tutor in Boston (Prospect Hill Academy)-preparation for standardized exams
Engineering and math instructor for Girl Scout Camps
Singing lessons for students and Tufts University

Tutoring Approach:

I will first assess what you need to learn, what your skill set is at the moment, and how long we have to work together. Then I will develop a plan with very tangible end goals and milestones along the way. If you only need one session, of course we shall expedite this process. Everything will be catered to your needs!

Personal Description:
I am a First Class Psychology and Sociology graduate from the University of Cambridge (2012-2015).

Teaching Experience:

I undertook a 6 month teaching placement in Port Elizabeth, South Africa at a mixed secondary school in 2012. Here I taught students from ages 12-19 in both English Language & Literature, and Life Orientation.

Since leaving university I have run numerous study technique sessions with students of all ages. In addition, I regularly tutor various students at both A-Level and GCSE in a variety of essay based subjects.

I have also run workshops and seminars at secondary schools, colleges, and universities to teach students how to study more effectively through mastering their mindset.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in study skills and techniques after undergoing a dramatic transformation in how I approached studying myself during my third year of university. After two years of being a low-mid 2i student at Cambridge I changed my entire approach to study through developing a number of study tips/tricks/hacks rooted in the science of Positive Psychology.

Students who often need tutoring are not those lacking in intelligence. For many not reaching their true potential it is their mindset and approach to learning that lets them down.

This is where I come in- I share my story of how in my third year I actually started working fewer hours, stopped getting stressed out, and completely changed my relationship with learning and education.

My tutoring is just as much about coaching- the last thing a student wants is another educator telling them what to do. I simply provide them with the tools to make dramatic changes and challenge them to apply these techniques themselves.

Areas I specialise in include:
- Fostering Positive Study Habits
- Eliminating Distractions & Increasing Focus
- Stress Reduction & Redirection
- Mastering Time Management
- Conscious Note Taking
- Perfecting Exam Technique

Personal Description:
I am an ex primary teacher who is now retired from teaching in schools, but with a wealth of experience. Currently, I work part time as a Pilates teacher and also offer private tuition. I love working with children and teens and feel I have much to offer your child as a private tutor. Over the years, I have tutored many children and young adults on an individual basis, with excellent results. I am a mother and grandmother, plus have worked in a voluntary capacity with young people in the Guides, Sunday Schools and running youth clubs.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified threshold three Primary School Teacher and have taught as a private tutor for over five years. My experience includes around twenty years of school teaching, mainly as a classroom teacher in years 3 and 4. I also taught throughout school from Reception to Year 5. As a family, we have hosted and taught language students. A recent experience was to coach a re-sit for the Australian Citizenship examination, which my student passed.
Other experience includes volunteering with Adult Literacy projects plus teaching expressive movement/dance and recorders in school clubs.
I worked for a year as a Special Needs Teacher at at local public school, where I taught small groups and individuals with good results. Recently, I volunteered for a year in a primary school, assisiting with Year One and Year Two language work such as phonics and reading.

Tutoring Approach:

We all learn best in a friendly, supportive atmosphere, which I feel I provide. I am creative in my approach to learning, but also am traditional regarding the building bricks, such as times tables, punctuation and grammar.
I would hope to support your child in overcoming obstacles regarding any gaps in their learning, to give encouragement and install confidence. Due to my long teaching experience, I can usually spot concerns quickly, targeting them to make learning time within the hour efficient.
If your family is time pressed, I may be able to support your child with their homework, depending on the work given.

Personal Description:
I am a Senior Lecturer in law at a London-based university. I have more than 3 years of experience delivering lectures and seminars, as well as preparing and marking assessments, which means that I know exactly how to support you to improve your legal skills (and your marks!).

I am passionate about working with students individually and supporting them through their university journey, which is why I decided to work as a private tutor. I work with a limited number of students only, depending on my availability, but I would love to have a chat with you to figure out how I can support you.

Teaching Experience:

HOW I CAN HELP YOU:

STUDY TECHNIQUES: I regularly work with 1st year LLB students, helping them to understand how they should study in order to receive excellent marks and continue improving their skills.

COURSEWORK/ASSIGNMENT SUPPORT: I can help you to understand the requirements of your coursework, and guide you through the process of structuring your essay, finding the right resources and analysing the law.

EXAM TECHNIQUE: Studying for exams can be quite stressful, especially if you don't know how to approach it. I will be happy to go with you through your mock exam paper, and explain how you should structure your exam answers and revise for the exam. I can even go over your mock exam answers and give you detailed feedback!

DISSERTATION SUPPORT: Some of the modules require you to complete a longer essay, known as a dissertation. There are slightly different rules that apply to writing those, and it's always good to have some external support throughout the writing process.

If you would like a flavour of what my teaching is like and how I explain different concepts in law, feel free to check out the Guidebook I authored: "Student`s Guide to Law: Developing a Legal Argument", which you can easily find in the Amazon Kindle library.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Here are the areas of law in which I currently tutor:

- Company law
- Commercial law
- Business law
- Family law
- Employment law
- Contract law / Obligations
- EU law
- Human rights law
- Public and administrative law
- English legal system
- Medical law and ethics
- Practical legal skills
- Careers support

I am also happy to explore other areas of law and expand my expertise, so if the area with which you need help is not on the list - please feel free to still approach me!

AVAILABILITY:

I am currently available for online Skype sessions only. I can do sessions during weekdays both during the day and in the evenings, and occasionally over the weekends too, subject to other commitments.

I have been teaching students online for more than 5 years now, and I use a professional equipment to make sure the sessions run smoothly. I know exactly how to arrange the sessions so that the students really benefit from them. I also have access to a wide range of online resources which I use during the sessions.

Online sessions are so much more beneficial to the students than traditional sessions! For starters, you are in the comfort of your own home which is a quiet environment with no external distractions. This means that you can focus entirely on the session and make the most of the full hour.

You can also start working on your assignment, mock exam answer or editing your lecture notes immediately after the session ends, when you still have in your head all the information that we discussed during the session.

And I won`t even mention all the time you save by not travelling to the session and back home!

INTERESTED IN BOOKING A SESSION? HERE ARE JUST A FEW GROUND RULES...

1. I tend to be quite busy, especially around coursework submission and exam revision times, so make sure you book your session in advance. I will rarely be available for a session if you will want it scheduled for the day after.

2. So that you can benefit from the session the most, I will need to prepare for it. For that, I will need you to send me the topic of your coursework (if you need support with your coursework), the corresponding lecture slides, your module outline and the details of the recommended textbook. You should be able to send these to me at least two days in advance of the session.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that private tutoring should be about me helping you to develop the skills that you need to develop within the shortest possible time (usually 3-6 sessions), rather than ongoing support.

Private support is pricey, especially if you're on a student budget, and so when you come to me we will make sure that there is a plan in place, and you know what type of progress you can expect within a short period of time.

My aim is always to provide you with as much information as I can so that you get to improve your skills fast!
