My name is Leonor. I am from Spain and 38 years old.

I am a teacher of Spanish and teach standard, Castilian Spanish, the official language of modern Spain. I love my profession and find teaching more a pleasure than a job. I have discovered that teaching is a two way experience where the teacher often learns as much from the students as the students learn from the teacher. For me, teaching languages is a very rewarding experience. I work with a couple of colleagues online, so we can offer more languages tuition, such as English (British English), French, German, Portuguese and Entrance Exams. All of us are native, qualified and experienced.

I am especially passionate about my native language, Spanish. I love not only the expressive beauty of the written Spanish, but the enchanting, musical sound and rhythm of spoken Spanish. The magic of the language of Cervantes is one of the reasons I have dedicated my life to the study of languages, especially Spanish.

Besides a passion for languages and linguistics, I also enjoy traveling and tracing the roots of human history and civilization. I am especially fascinated by ancient history.

Tutoring Approach:

Based on the Direct Method, I use a technique of teaching a foreign languages without reference to the students native language. This method of total immersion has been proven to be the most effective means of rapidly developing real language skills. It is recognized as one of the best methods for language instruction and currently used around the world. With this method, students quickly develop the ability to think in their new language. This approach is both easy and satisfying. Student progress is quite rapid. Students progress at their own pace in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. With my method, students will begin speaking their new foreign language from the very first lesson (guaranteed), even if they have never spoken a word of their new language before.

At the academic skills pre-sessional courses at the University of Birmingham in 2012-2016 I gained even deeper experience supporting individual students with writing within very constrained time-limits. I guided all to success at their final assessments. I have had very positive feedback and comments of appreciation.

I have taught in various set-ups - whole class, pair work, group work, or one-to-one sessions. I am deeply interested in each student's individual learning needs and progress and one of my major strengths is differentiation. I sometimes prepare material at 4 levels of differentiation for a single class or small group. I use supportive strategies to boost students' confidence, at the same time challenging learners to achieve beyond their own expectations. I approach intense 1-to-1 sessions with the appropriate dynamics.

I am prepared to go beyond my 'job description' duties to help students with 'special needs'. I am interested in their individual circumstances and take them into account, where appropriate. I prepare resources to address their personal needs and interests. I review their progress and involve them in self-assessment towards autonomy of learning. I am familiar with the 'Assessment for Learning' policy and competent with implementing it widely.

I have worked successfully with students with dyslexia. At secondary school, one of my 'high-ability' dyslexic students scored an 'A' grade at her English GCSE, while another participated in a poetry competition. I have had success teaching students with autism and Asperger's as well.

I invest all of myself in my teaching. I am a highly trusted professional and have an exceptional rapport with my students. I am often quoted as a preferred tutor, who 'has the best way of explaining things' and 'is very patient, friendly and cheerful'. All students of mine - regardless whether at school, college or university - progressed by at least one level (even at short-term courses). A student with a debilitating illness on the BME, predicted to fail the course, not only passed it under my guidance, but achieved grades higher than his required level. In my 15-year teaching career I have never failed a student. I have achieved outstanding results at OFSTED observations. My latest annual lesson observation at BMETC was graded 'OUTSTANDING' and so was my performance at NAVITAS earlier this year. Another observation at BCU was unofficially deemed as 'the best on the course'. I have been invited to share exceptional ideas at training events and have also participated in numerous training activities at schools, colleges and universities. I often opt to peer-observe colleagues, to learn from their teaching styles.

Some more examples from my practice: a class of illiterate Yemeni housewives at BMETC, 2011, achieved a 100% pass at their ESOL exams, while 'advanced' international students at the BME, 2012 achieved some of the highest grades on the course. I have been successful dealing with pupils with behavioural problems at Harborne Hill School. Many reported an increasingly positive attitude to learning. I am a creative teacher and try to interest and enthuse students, so that they enjoy learning and celebrate their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

First I negotiate the times and modes of tutoring with the parents of my potential pupil and agree on fees.
Then I organise a free initial meeting with the pupil and their parents, where I try to establish raport with the pupil. It is important, especially for children, to 'get a feel' of the new tutor and see if they can feel comfortable with her.
Then I try to access as much information as possible from the parents and the child about their progress at school and their attitude to school. If possible, I wish to see samples of the child's school work, or hear anything teachers have said/written about their progress.
During the first lesson I conduct an informal assessment of the pupil's skills - give them a piece of text to read, or free writing or short composition, or a selection of Maths problems to solve. When I get a clear picture of where my pupil stands with a certain skill, I create a short-term plan of work with them. I normally bring materials with me and do not ask parents to buy additional materials. If the parent wishes me to follow a certain self- help book, I am happy to oblige.
I update parents regularly of their child's progress - I try to do it after every lesson. I normally leave homework, designed to consolidate the material covered in the lesson, or develop their skills further. I wish parents to be involved as much as possible with helping or monitoring the completion of the homework.
I try to show my pupils as much respect as possible and affirm them as individuals. I acknowledge their birthdays, Christmas, or other family celebrations.
The parents can terminate the service at any time, with only one week notice.

I have been a tutor for 4 years. In this time i have tutored numerous students from the age of 8 up to 18. I have taught maths in particular to years 5-11 recently. In all cases I have improved their exam performances and been thanked by the parents.

I have worked in a primary school as a volunteer running a morning maths class every Tuesday during my A-levels. This helped me learn a lot on how to convey my message to children so they understand how to solve the problem using their own intuition.

Furthermore I have worked with children in the Bloomsbury Kumon centre for the past few years which has been beneficial in many ways. Tutoring Approach:

I believe in going through problems with the children first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practice until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practice. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm.

Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Turkish. I've been living in England since 1997 and completed my Computer Science degree in 2006 at Aston University / Birmingham. For my final year project I developed computer program to translate between Turkish and English. The program was build using a dictionary, set of rules listed in a pattern and a logic to extract meaning using the dictionary and the pattern. Turkish is morphologically a complex language. However complexity can be simplified by learning the patterns, and then enjoy making sentences using logic. I find learning a language exciting myself and after my degree started to learn German. Through listening to cd's of Michael Thomas. It was fascinating to see that he was using the same technique to teach couple of his students. During the learning process it was their logic that was being challenged more than their memory of words and phrases. I think it is ok to 'cheat' and look up words that you don't remember. Once you start making sentences using particular words and you are comfortable with the sentence you will also remember the word due to the pattern you have built in your mind. Regardless of our individual learning styles, I think building patterns is a more permanent and easy way of learning than trying to memorise everything.

Teaching Experience:

I ve been giving private tuition in Birmingham, and now I would like to continue this in Bournemouth. I am currently doing a research about effective ways of teaching Turkish. I am interested in teaching Turkish because I enjoy teaching, also the experience will support my project. My ultimate aim is to write and record my own teaching materials for learning Turkish

Tutoring Approach:

I developed my interest in languages through my degree. I am competent in teaching, and I will adopt my technique based on the individual's learning style. Most native English speaking people in the UK finds agglutinative languages difficult to comprehend, as they attempt to 'understand' by comparing them with their own or some other European language. I believe that I can provide techniques that will overcome this difficulty. I enjoy teaching Turkish because I believe that I can understand how different individuals perceive and learn. I find it challenging and rewarding to be able to connect with people, deliver information the way they will appreciate, and see people enjoying the experience of learning.

Most of my tutees have a good idea where in the syllabus they have issues and these tend to be the starting point in a tutorial. Identifying gaps in their knowledge and understanding and then helping tutees to bridge these gaps is a key feature of my tutorials. I am a friendly, qualified and experienced teacher. I am a native German. I moved to the UK in 1991 just after meeting my future husband. We have three grown-up children, and education and parenthood have been very much part of our lives for many years.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in secondary schools and colleges in the UK for over 15 years as a German teacher and Head of German. I have conducted GCSE and A-level oral exams for the WJEC examination board, written several syllabuses for German GCSE and A-level groups and organised pupil exchange visits over 6 years. The academic work and pastoral care at the school I worked at was rated "excellent" by Estyn. At present, I am working at home with pupils who are eager to improve their grades at Key stage 3, GCSE and A-level, with adults who are relocating to Germany, and with architects, employees in the car industry and Financial advisers (Business German) who have business relations with Germany. I also teach children at primary level, who have moved to Britain from Germany and are keen to practise German with games, stories, songs and puppet theatre.

Tutoring Approach:

Language tuition has been my passion for a long time and allows me to be supportive and creative, motivating pupils and believing in their abilities. One-to-one tuition is very productive, because it adapts to the individual learner's needs easily. My experience in schools and with exams has given me the knowledge of standards required for GCSE and A-level exams, and many pupils have commented on how much improvement they have seen in their school work, and in their confidence, as a result of our lessons. My aim is to make language learning enjoyable, and therefore I always encourage a warm and relaxed atmosphere for lessons. My lessons are structured, integrating all four language skills speaking, listening, reading and writing, and also include grammar, pronunciation, games, video clips, and lots of authentic material and cultural knowledge.

I believe art has always been a universal language, between people from different cultures and people of same culture but with different backgrounds, interests and experiences.
To me, art has to give a message, a feedback to the society and creates a some kind of social awareness of changes that always happen in our world.
In my work, I like producing art pieces which will bring people together in a discussion or an argument. To make them stop and think about things in life they may never considered before, which they will only enjoy doing so through the fantasy of art

I have been a loyal student to BCU, where I obtained, both my Fine Art degree and my MA in Art and Education Practice. Planning for my PhD research study too. This post will help me through my research and will give me a good access to both teaching and research. I have been looking for this opportunity to teach alongside my PhD study.
I became a practicing artist and researcher in the subject of Britishness and modern values since 2003. Working from my studio as well as researching . I am interested in culture diversity and community. I am quite focused on research and combining my work with strong evidence. I also have been teaching Arabic and have strong knowledge of the Middle East culture and I can give support to students coming from the Middle East, including helping them to gain confidence and engage with other fellow students. I also have great experience with special needs, being a mother of an autistic boy.
I have been developing my research skills for 13 years. I am quite an independent researcher and always looking for new methods to reach the maximum point I get to with my research. I believe in creativity and in carrying out new methods that suite different projects. Supporting my art work with strong research give me great credibility.
Supporting others too is a great passion for me. I always been involved in teaching both Arabic and art. I like passing my experience and knowledge to students, directing them to new research methods and making them independent researchers themselves. Good results requires good supervision. I believe students fail when they were not giving the right support or did not have a supervisor who understands their potential and help them enough throughout their study.
