Personal Description:
I have taught in many capacities as a tutor, classroom teacher, special needs tutor, teacher's assistant and was deputy head of English at an Outstanding South London secondary school. I enjoy working with young people and helping them to achieve. I value enjoyment as top of the list. If you enjoy lessons you enjoy learning but I also value making what you learn of a high quality. I think you must have pride and hard work to get the most out of whatever you learn and with those ingredients I believe anyone can do anything.

Teaching Experience:

3 years as a teaching assistant and special needs worker at a variety of schools. Achieved outstanding results with ADHD, aspergers, dyslexic and autistic pupils.
Personal tutoring for young people in maths, music, English and French.
Trained as a TEFL teacher and 5 years experience working at home and abroad teaching children and adults.
Deputy Head of English at a South London secondary school where I achieved fantastic GCSE results and taught from year 7-13. I wrote and delivered schemes of work on grammar, English Literature (Dickens, Shakespeare etc) and English Language.
I currently deliver drama and English in many settings such as prisons, with refugees, in schools and with theatres.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in building a rapport of achievement and enjoyment with the tutee. Patience and a sense of humour is vital. I would prepare in detail and allow the lesson to be focused and achievable. I have taken on over 12 tutees from this website aged 6-16 and have enjoyed each one. I can provide appropriate references. I set high goals and believe in adapting to the learning styles of the tutees.

Personal Description:
I work as a Solicitor, working in a busy High-street Firm. I have been working for 5 years. I have been tutoring for the past 7 years and it is something I enjoy immensely.

I am able to obtain all exam papers and mark schemes, in order to help the students.

I am very patient with my students and can keep a calm temperament. I will assist my students in any way possible, in order for them to reach their maximum potential.

As a person, I am very approachable and like-able. This is also my approach as a tutor as I aim to make my students feel comfortable. All the students I have taught have provided me with positive feedback, as they have enjoyed sessions and feel they can relate to my style of teaching.

I am also able to provide sessions in order to assist with coursework deadlines etc and general English speaking and writing.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 7 years, with a wide-range of students, from GSCE to Degree level. In addition to this, I have continued tutoring my younger brother, who has now completed his LLB and he further provides me with constructive feedback and the up-to date course material.

I have taught around 40 students, with varying abilities levels, although I have succeeded in helping them improve.

Tutoring Approach:

I take tutoring very seriously and approach each student on their own merits. I am recently qualified I'm my area for work, therefore my approach to teaching is relatively up-to date and contemporary. My recollection of School confirms that the classes in which I excelled, were the ones where the teacher would take an active-role in class. I have incorporated this into my teaching method. I have an individualised teaching approach and adapt my style to the student's needs.

If any students require one-off sessions, for help with coursework or exams, I am able to provide this.
With the exam period forthcoming, I have experience in going through exam techniques and revision methods.

Personal Description:
I live in Cumbria and have a range of work experiences to draw on, including researching for the BBC daily survey and the Centre for Social Policy Research and Development. I have also worked as a housemother for children with learning difficulties, as an advocate within the voluntary sector and as an advocacy development worker.

After gaining my PhD, my more recent work has been as an Education lecturer in higher education which has also involved me in a number of research initiatives, tutoring undergraduate and postgraduate students and working on research governance and ethics. I have a wide range of peer reviewed publications and a number of current book contracts. I believe education is a right for all people at all levels and that it is best viewed as a lifelong experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at a college teaching A level Sociology and more recently at a Russell Group university for 8 years teaching a wide variety of topics to undergraduate and postgraduate students including sociology, social policy and politics, social psychology, social theory, person centred approaches, gender studies, disability theory, social research, critical thinking, communication & study skills. My last two national student survey results gave 93% and 100% for quality.

I have also previously taught on women returning to work courses through the University of Lancaster as well as youth and community and training the trainers courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a student centred approach to tutoring. Each person has different needs and different approaches to learning. Initially we will assess your needs and preferences together and work out how to deliver teaching in the most effective way for you to achieve your goals. I also encourage a proactive approach where students learn to take responsibility for their learning in between person to person tuition. This is especially important for students going on to university education.

Personal Description:
I am currently a second year Undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham studying Medicine. As an ex student at Queen Elizabeth's School for Boys I have an enthusiasm for learning which stems from my deep desire to achieve success. I have a fondness for teaching and have so for long periods of time. As well as teaching I enjoy to play football and I also thoroughly enjoy travelling.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught numerous students at QE boys and have aided them throughout with GCSE English and GCSE/A-Level Sciences also. This has involved me coordinating lesson plans and detailed presentations for classes of up to 12 pupils. Having been through the stress of exams, I have also held numerous study groups and sessions in order to aid pupils further. I have also taught Year 7 and Year 9 pupils on a one-to-one basis in a range of subjects. I have also tutored IGCSE Chemistry students on a one-to-one basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that the best way to tutor is to understand the pupil and their best methods of learning, rather than enforcing my ways upon them. After having been through the entire secondary school process myself I feel that it is important to engage with students and interact with them, providing them with new and refreshing ways to analyse, comprehend and apply the knowledge with which they are taught.

It is important that a student is able to relate to their tutor and feels at ease to ask questions to quash any qualms they may have and I feel the best way to do that is to provide an environment which is comfortable and encouraging. With extensive knowledge of a variety of exam boards, I will seek to dissect the relevant specifications for the subjects and relay them in a way which I feel the student will best understand.

Tutoring and learning is not meant to be a daunting process and the best teachers in my experience are those who you are able to talk to openly whilst making you think in order to get the best out of you.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom since December 2009. I am originally from Kumamoto, where I completed a training course at the EII Japanese Language Centre. I have now been teaching Japanese to students of all levels for nearly ten years.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Japanese in Kumamoto, Japan 10 years ago. I teach both children and adults and from absolute beginners to advanced level students. After moving to England I've been teaching from my home.

I also have 8 years experience of teaching online using Skype and an interactive whiteboard for students all over the world. I have worked for a major Japanese online school for 2 years.

I have taught students who aim to take the JLPT exam, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (from the1st to 5th grade), and who are studying for The Duke of Edinburgh award.

I have also helped business people who are planning to work for Japanese companies.

My lesson fees are as follows:

Face-to-face lessons

• Private Lessons : £25 for a one hour individual lesson (at my home)

• Group Lessons
2 people : £20 per person for a one hour lesson (at my home)
3 or more people : Please enquire about availability (at a public venue)
3 people : £18 per person for a one hour lesson
4-5 people : £15 per person for a one hour lesson
6-8 people : £13 per person for a one hour lesson

You can take group lessons with your friends or family members. Discounted lesson rates are available if you can collect a group of between 2 and 8 people.

Online lessons

• Private lessons :
£20 for a 50 minute individual lesson
£25 for a 60 minute individual lesson

• Group Lessons
2 people : £18 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £20 per person for a 60 minute lesson
3-5 people : £15 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £17 per person for a 60 minute lesson
6-8 people : £13 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £15 per person for a 60 minute lesson

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by introducing essential sentence patterns and teaching how to use them in practise conversations. I use role-play to make the conversations real and teach how to speak Japanese naturally. You will soon realise my lessons are completely different from normal language studies at school and find that my method is both practical and effective.

Personal Description:
After spending some time working in the IT industry, including a spell being practically a one-man IT department for a small business, I discovered a love of - and I like to think a knack for - guiding and supporting the learning of others through teaching and training. Initially this was in the IT/Computer Science fields, but more recently I have diversified into Maths. Seeing the "lightbulb moment", when a learner finally conquers a problem, is an undoubted highlight of my job. Away from teaching, I am a music buff, and I also love to discover new places and meet new people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching professionally as a college lecturer since 2007 and privately since 2014, teaching Maths at KS3 and GCSE level, and IT from KS3 to BTEC Level 3. While I love the 'cut and thrust' of a classroom, I find private tuition to be particularly rewarding - being able to devote more time to each learner can make a real difference to those who might otherwise get overlooked in a large class, and only serves to increase yet further the satisfaction in seeing them succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

I can readily adapt teaching styles to fit the needs of individual learners. I recognise the importance of having a Plan B and trying different approaches to suit different learning styles. Learner input is more than welcome on this. If you know what techniques work well for you, feel free to let me know!

I am also a firm believer that successful learning depends on four main factors - hard work, willingness, perseverance and self-belief. Students often have plenty of the first three, but may lack a little of the latter. I see my role as being about encouragement as well as teaching, so as well as offering support and guidance, I will also encourage you to have confidence in your ability. Believe that you CAN succeed, and it becomes much more likely that you WILL.
