Personal Description:
I have been teaching Latin and Classical Studies for over 10 years. I have a BA Hons in Latin and Classical Studies from University College Dublin, a Masters in Classics from King's College London and a Diploma in Spoken Latin, for which I studied under the translator for the Vatican. I am passionate about my subject and love to share my enthusiasm for Latin with my students. As well as private tutoring, I also teach Latin and Classics in schools (both primary and secondary), run after school Latin clubs, and am also training teachers who will teach Latin as part of a project I am involved with to introduce Latin into state schools. I also teach Classical Studies and Ancient History.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Latin and Classical Studies for over 5 years. My students have been of all ages and at vastly different stages in their learning. I have helped students who have been struggling with school coursework, helped prepare students for exams, and also designed entire curricula for students who wish to learn from scratch. I come with excellent references and proven results, with some previous students having gone on to study Classics at Oxbridge and other third level institutions, obtaining Latin scholarships to college, and even going on to teach Latin themselves in secondary schools. I have experience of private tutoring, small groups, classroom teaching at both primary and secondary level, exam preparation classes, after school clubs and running teaching workships to train future teachers of Latin.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my tutorials to fit the needs of each individual student.

Personal Description:
My first teaching job was in Kenya when I was 19, and since then I have taught English in Mexico, Brazil, Japan and England. My students have ranged from 4 to 94, and from beginners to doctors and academic researchers, focusing on conversation, business, or exams, depending on the student's needs.

I have a passion for language, whether listening to strangers on the bus or exploring grammatical structures, and my students pick up my enthusiasm and enjoyment.

I have written a book on psychology, linguistics and science, edited children's books and academic texts, and worked as a translator of both Portuguese and Japanese.

My BSc is in Life Sciences with the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine, and I am interested in nearly everything, except football and cars.

Teaching Experience:

2010-present: ESL teacher, language coach for academics, and private tutor to Japanese kids.

2006-2010: Private English tutor (in MG, Brazil).

2001-2005: High School teacher and private tutor (in Kyoto, Japan)
1999-2001: Elementary and Junior High School English teacher, also special needs class (in Fukushima, Japan).

1997: Teacher for tortillas and lodging in the jungle (in Chiapas, Mexico)

1995: Volunteer school teacher of English, Science & Maths (in rural Kenya)

Tutoring Approach:

I use only English in my lessons, encouraging my students to speak as much as possible, and to correct their own or each other's errors wherever possible.

My emphasis is on fluency, natural language and confidence, so when teaching grammar or considering problems, the student can refer to concrete examples in their heads, rather than abstract formulae in textbooks.

I use a broad range of materials, techniques, and situations, setting high standards and pushing my students to work hard towards accuracy and creativity in English.

Though I am happy teaching one-to-one, I find that a group of two to four students can be more dynamic, more relaxed, and a better environment for free expression and mutual correction. If you agree, I might invite you to join a class of students at a similar level, which makes the lesson much more economical for you.

Personal Description:
Hi there, I'm Jessica. I am an enthusiastic Biology graduate who is passionate about the subject and have a broad and detailed knowledge of the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a classroom assistant in a primary school where I worked with individual students who required additional support. I also completed a 'Communication and Teaching in Science' module at University. This involved spending time within a Primary school, working with small groups on a science project.

Tutoring Approach:

I want to ensure the syllabus is covered and think it is important to identify the areas which are being overlooked either because they are 'boring' or difficult to understand. I aim to help make the subject more interesting and reminding students that there are lots of interesting facts to learn. I studied for 7 years at University therefore have good experience in identifying the key points to remember for exams.

Personal Description:
I am currently a final year medical student at Imperial College London and also have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science from Aston University.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for 7 years and have spent 9 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. I have worked part time at a tuition centre for two years teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English. Additionally, I have run large revision sessions during the run up to exams, covering essential aspects of the syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Oxford University Maths undergraduate with versatile interests and a passion for teaching. In love with Mathematics and hoping to become a teacher one day, I relish every opportunity I get to share my knowledge with others.

I am interested in classical music (play the violin), baroque opera and theatre. I am also writing a blog and am currently the editor-in-chief of the Oxford University Maths Society Magazine, the "Invariant".

Teaching Experience:

Co-founder and co-owner of Quill Tuition tutoring company: conducted Maths and English classes for individuals and small groups; including a Maths course for high-school students heading to leading UK universities; experienced with teaching online using interactive online whiteboard and classroom facilities (2015).

Private English tutor for adults and teenagers (2014).

Taught a high-school Maths insight course to a class of 14-year olds (2013).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that successful tutoring consists of two things: the right approach, tailored to individual needs of every student and constant repetition and revision. If my student does not understand something, I try different ways of explaining it to them for as long as it takes for them to grasp the difficult concept in question. This way I can quickly find out what learning style fits the given student and how to teach them most effectively.

Personal Description:
I am a recent UCL maths Msci graduate and I know how to get incredibly high marks on exams. My average mark on my A level maths/further maths was 92%. In a couple of the more interesting modules (FP1, C4), I got 100%. I continued this academic excellence into my undergraduate, my average was 82%, I did the hardest analysis / algebra courses.
Here is what one of my current students says about me:
"Joe has consistently proven to have great knowledge and understanding in all areas of mathematics. So far, my degree has required me to have a strong grasp of analysis, algebra, statistics and mathematical methods, all of which he has taught me in great detail. His enthusiasm for the subject has made our lessons exciting and extremely rewarding, often leaving me mulling over interesting mathematical problems that he has left for me to think about for homework. When I started with Joe, I had just failed my first year at UCL and thanks to his help, I achieved a 2:1 in the retake exams and am on the path to obtaining a first in my subsequent years. Joe has taught me methods that have enabled me to solve complex mathematical problems independently. I have never had a tutor with such a breath of knowledge, empathetic approach and natural ebullience as Joe. I highly recommend him to all students. " Hannah Michaels, 25, UCL mathematics undergraduate.

Tutoring is not a side project for me. It is a vocation I genuinely want to pursue to the fullest extent.
When I look at my achievements, I don't quite believe them: I grew up on a deprived council estate in Wolverhampton, life could have been so different. This is why I have applied for a PGCE; so that I may uplift others.
I am unique in that for a period of my adolescence (GCSE), I was home schooled. I know very well the challenges that home-schooled people face.
I was known as the "Ideas Man" in the maths common room at UCL: two years ago I gave an hour long talk at UCL on quaternion analysis for the The Mathematics Colloquium. I also helped a number of students with their own Colloquium talks. I am currently preparing a series of talks on relativistic fluid mechanics.
In my spare time I answer people's questions on math.stackexchange (my reputation score is currently 223). I also write poetry related to my mathematical interests. Aside from maths. I'm a huge computer games enthusiast (typical maths nerd!) and attend philosophy debates.
Availability:
My timetable is nearly full (12/16 hours of tuition weekly).
I am away from London: 23rd of December until 2nd of January.
Location is at discretion of the client.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring part time while I was studying in February, and I have been a full time tutor since graduation in August.
My maths and physics teachers put me in charge of mentoring AS students during my A levels. (I have three letters from my teachers confirming this, available on request.) Here are quotes from two:

"First rate physicist and mathematician... The tuition and help he has given has been really useful to those to who have received it... I would recommend him without reservation to any other student..." -Mr Ian Cunliffe FE Physics teacher, 2010; Central Sussex College, Haywards Heath campus.
"Joe has read widely around the subject... I can fully recommend Joe for his mathematical expertise as well as his ability to put across his explanations" -Dr A G Williamson FE maths teacher, 2010; Central Sussex College, Haywards Heath campus.
I mentored undergraduates in the maths department at UCL while I was studying; giving lectures on the provided whiteboards.
Five years of maths mentoring experience (10 hours / week) (Including university and college.)
Experience with home schooled students.
Experience with dyslexic students.

I have detailed knowledge of the demands of each specification for Maths and Further Maths A Level (AQA, OCR and Edecxel). I can also teach Maths IB and pre-U.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths lessons can be very daunting, with the teacher often moving on from key methods to difficult questions too quickly. One-to-one tuition is great because I can make sure a student really understands the fundamentals behind concepts, before tackling specific questions.
Rather than teach superficial 'tricks' to get answers, which often backfire in exams, I always give students a genuine grounding in a way of thinking about problems. It's also great that my students can ask the questions they've always wondered about in class, but been too self-conscious to ask.
I am experienced in providing custom-made handouts that cater to the individual needs of my students. The handouts usually cover things that cannot be reasonably tutored during lessons, and novel and instructive ways of solving problems.
