I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

My name is Anton. I have master`s degree in Physics from University of New Hampshire. Besides my background as researcher I have four years of experience as a London based tutor. I primary teach A-level physics and most of my students were taking OCR, AQA, or Edexcel exams. I occasionally teach GCSE and University level subjects, such as Mechanics, Electrodynamics, and Quantum Mechanics. Currently I teach part-time in a private school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is flexible. Usually I easy detect weak spots in students understanding and this gives me chance to focus on the most relevant topics for a particular student. I carefully prepare myself for each session, and my goal is to make the student involved in the lesson not just leaving him to listen to me. In my opinion the Math involved in A-Level physics is not hard at all, and many students that are good in Math think they can handle physics relatively easy, but this is most of the time not true. I apply extra effort, in my lessons to make sure that student understands the physics concepts not just memorizing facts. My observation is that if the student goal is to achieve an A grade it requires at least two hours of tutoring per week throughout the academic year, of course sometimes one hour is Okay, and some ambitious student ask for more than two hours per week. In any case it will give me great pleasure to help you improve your knowledge and make you feel the beauty of PHYSICS.

GRADE 1 OUTSTANDING - OFSTED
I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 39 years old, married with 2 children, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. I gained my degree in Economics and Finance in 1998 from Leicester University. I began teaching in 2002 so have many years of experience teaching Accounting.

I offer tutition at my home, either at the weekend, or weekday evenings. However, I am usually able to offer tuition during the school/college holidays.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at Manchester University in 2002. I only teach Accounting AS and A2 Level, and this is therefore my main specialism. I can also help students in need of tutoring on the Finance elements of the Business Studies A Level, or on Accouning/Finance elements of Business/Accounting/Finance degree courses.

I teach the AQA specification. However, I can also tutor students who are following the OCR specification.

Many tutors are not willing to advertise the results they have achieved with students. I recommend you read the section below on the results i have achieved with my A Level Accounting students.

Also, many tutors seem to offer tuition in a wide variety of subjects. Are they really specialists in so many different subjects? I am an Accounting specialist, and only offer tuition in Accounting or the Finance elements of a Business course. If you need a Maths tutor, then hire a Maths specialist. If you need an Accounting tutor, then hire me!

Tutoring Approach:

Many other tutors seem to describe their strategies/relationships etc, without mentioning anything concrete like exam results! Surely the one thing a prospective student wants to know about is exam results!?!? Read on.

I have an incredibly strong track record of results at A Level Accounting. Compare the results of my students against the national benchmarks below. Please compare the difference between my students, and the benchmarks. We are WAY ahead!

Each department within the college is graded according to the college's own internal validation procedure. I have been graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' for 10 years on the row, since I became head of the department!!!

The Accounting department was also graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' in the last OFSTED report in Jan 2010. Key Findings from Ofsted:

"A high proportion of students achieve grades A and B. In A-Level Accounting more than two thirds of students gained a high grade (A-B). In AS Accounting, almost four times the national average achieved a high grade (A-B)."


I have been awarded grade 1 on the ALPS measure for value added on 3 seperate occasions in recent years. This means i add more value to my students than any other college in the country. Value added measures the difference between what the Government predicts a student should achieve at A Level based on their GCSE performance and what they actually achieve.

Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Bath and am currently in my third year of a four year course, studying BA French, Italian and European Studies (History, Politics, Culture and Literature of Europe). In compliance with my degree, this year must be spent abroad and so I have just finished my summer employment at a private language summer school in Belgium, working as an English teacher.

I teach French on Twitter, where I have over 16,000 followers and regularly respond to questions and update my page daily with useful phrases, every day speech and more complex language issues.

My passion for learning and teaching languages stems from when I moved to France at the age of 13 with my parents, not one of us spoke a word of the language - other than the vague memories of the beginnings of GCSE, with the only words springing to mind being 'ruler' and 'pencil'. It's really just not ideal when you're actually in the centre of a new culture, and not in a classroom.

I didn't have friends for the first few months there because of the language barrier (it didn't help either that I was home-schooled so it was incredibly hard for me to even meet people!). So I just had to learn the language. In teaching myself it, I know what works, I know the easiest ways to memorise words and phrases, I know what to do and what will be easiest for you.

After three years of living in France, my parents decided to move back to the UK where I continued my language studies at a scholastic level; completing my AS Level and my A2 Level in French, gaining an A in both.

My passion for Italian stems from my father's family being Sicilian. We moved there, also when I was 13, however, sadly we only spent a very brief time there - it was a spontaneous country-hop so we really just were not prepared for the culture shock. Again, none of us spoke the language, so I began teaching myself and then continued again when I came back to the UK to study.

English is my native language and I have taken my A Levels in English Language.

Teaching Experience:

While teaching, my classes would change weekly, so during my stay there I gained the experience of teaching 9-17 year olds, with English levels ranging from absolute beginner, A1 to almost native, C1.

I gained many skills, including, but not exclusive to, classroom management, lesson planning, evaluating language levels at the beginning and end of the stay of the children, meeting parents and giving feedback and of course, teaching full days; my teaching day would even include private one-to-one lessons. I would often deal with situations that required being able to think innovatively, without guidance and under pressure so I have gained a considerable amount of confidence and self-discipline due to my work there and I have improved my time keeping and organisational skills.

I have also been privately tutoring children, from 11 to 14 years old, for over two years now, via Skype. So even if the distance seems too far - teaching via Skype is an option.

I tutored one of my students through her French GCSE and she gained an A*. I was always available to prepare her - even the day before her exams. She only ever felt confident to go into any of the modules (be it speaking or writing).

I really care for the children that I tutor and am proud to say I have been there to help them with all aspects of their schooling, from homework help, to exam preparations, extra work and even life lessons - I'm very personable, patient and overall positive and happy so am always willing to give advice and have really become a friend to my tutees. We've also worked on all subjects, everything from science, to history, to music, to teaching the time and additional mathematics help.

I regularly submit students for ABRSM exams and to date I maintain an exceedingly good pass rate for all my pupils who decide to undertake Grade examinations in both their instruments and Music Theory. I strongly encourage my pupils to undertake study of Music Theory as part of their lessons alongside their Practical Study, as experience has shown many students attain Grade V ABRSM with no substantial previous knowledge of this area.
As Grade V Theory is a requirement of the ABRSM before a student can be entered for a Grade VI examination on their instrument I feel that teaching the Theory alongside their instrumental studies assists in minimising the delay before a student can proceed to the higher examinations if they so wish. Further to this I believe it also allows them a better understanding of the music they are striving to perform. While I encourage my students to take the Grade examinations as a mark of their progress I am also happy to work with students who do not wish to undertake the pressures of certification but just wish to learn to play or improve their playing ability for their own enjoyment.

Personal Description:
My name is Ian and I would be a female tutor. I was born in Malaysia and I have travelled to New Zealand and Australia for academic and research purposes. I have recently passed my PhD Viva and currently preparing for a major move to Orkney Islands. Even though English is not my first language, I have a great understanding in the subject of Organic Chemistry, I have ample tips for studying chemistry along side with basic knowledge in Math.

Teaching Experience:

I was a Campus Coach during my academic years in New Zealand. I would help 1st and 2nd year university students from our science department with their studies. This include giving them motivation to learn, tips for note-taking, managing time meeting all kind of assignments, giving advice on who they should approach for more academic and social help.

Recently, I was a lab demonstrator and Chemistry tutor during my academic year at University of Glasgow. I assisted students in the safe execution of the experiment, safe and proper operation and handling of lab equipment, chemicals and glassware. I was actively engaged with the students in discussions about the experiment. I also collected and grade pre-lab assignments in a timely manner, enter grades in record book, and circulate to give individual feedback to students. In addition, I was responsible for reporting any problems/incidents/inconsistencies immediately to the instructor and replenish/prepare any chemicals or supplies if asked upon with help from the technicians. I had the first-hand experience as a marker of assignments and lab reports, so I will know what to expect from a good to excellent answers to given questions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique.

Hi there,

I'm Lauren and I'm currently teaching a range of S1-S6 classes in Dumfries.

I studied at Strathclyde University where I gained a Joint Honors Degree in Physics with Teaching.

I have tutored since the age of 16 when I was still in school myself and tutored 9 students while I was studying for my degree with all students doing well in whatever academic exams they were working for (P4 Independent Schools Mathematics testing - Higher).

I am used to working with teenagers in and out of school having been involved in leading youth groups, Church groups and dance groups as a young adult.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out my Probation year in 2014 and gained a permanent post in 2015 in the school where I currently work in Dumfries.

I have taught National 5 for the past two years and CfE Higher for the past year with all classes gaining excellent results. Included in my timetable this year are both these levels again.
