Personal Description:
My name is Marco, I am an Italian teacher who worked for eight
years at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Guatemala City (Cultural section
of the Italian Embassy). Besides teaching Italian,
I also organised cultural activities as cycles of Italian movies, literary
conferences, seminar on Italian Literature and Cinema.

I am graduate in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University Ca'
Foscari of Venice and I possess the ITALS Master's Degree in Teaching and
promotion of the Italian language and culture to foreigners.

At the end of May 2008 I published Mosaico Italia, a book on
Italian Language and Culture that can be used with students with an
Intermediate level of Italian (level B1 of the Common European Reference for
Languages). This book aims to provide a didactic instrument to investigate
Italian reality.

Now I am in London to study a Msc in Education, power and Social Change at
Birkbeck, University of London. I have just started my dissertation, and I
will get my Msc degree in September 2011.

Teaching Experience:

During the past few years, I have taught the Italian language and Literature in Latin-American countries such as the Dominican Republic and Guatemala, teaching with special techniques learnt at the ITALS post-University course of Italian for foreigners. At December 2007 I graduated from the ITALS M. A. Degree in Teaching and Promotion of the Italian Language and Culture to Foreigners of the University Ca' Foscari of Venice.

When I started working at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Guatemala City, I was also in charge of working out all the plans related to the didactics coordination. Moreover, I wrote all the Curricula and the exams along the period of my employment both at the Istituto and at the Landivar University. I also coordinated the pedagogic implementation and organised Seminars and workshops on Training and in Language Teaching Techniques.

Tutoring Approach:

The teaching techniques, which could be useful in a Foreign Language Tutorship, are those in which communication between the tutor and the student is always is promoted. In this regard, mutual interaction and collaboration lead to a more natural learning of the language. This process follows a teaching method where the humanist-affective approach is used to practice the basic and integrated linguistic abilities while learning a foreign language.
The models of teaching units that originate from these premises require a particular profile for the tutor who will encourage the students to analyze and reflect on the conceptual categories (morphological, syntactical, cultural, lexical, functional etc.) that constitute the goals of the unit.

Personal Description:
I currently study Classics at Newcastle University, in my final year. I'm thoroughly enjoying this course and am keen to teach after university. I left Tudor Hall School in 2010, where I had fantastic teachers and learnt from their approach to teaching.
I would prefer to teach GCSE or A Level Latin and Greek as this was when I really started to enjoy studying the Classics.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a girl GCSE Latin which she found very helpful - references available
I have done a 140 hour TEFL course which was extremely interesting and showed me how to make lessons interesting, fun and informative.
I have done work experience at numerous schools (Oxford High School, Cheney School, The Dragon School, Godolphin and Latymer and Francis Holland) where I observed lessons and helped work one on one with children who were struggling, as well as give lessons to classes of 20.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a solid grammar foundation is key to passing exams in Latin and Greek. I would cover everything needed for the specific syllabus in depth making sure that the student understands every aspect. Vocabulary is also important and I believe that a short flash test at the beginning of each lesson helps students to compart mentalise different words.
Regarding the set text, I feel strongly that the student does not simply memorise a translation. Understanding how to translate the set passage takes pressure off leading up to the exam and is helpful for unseen translations anyway.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Mitul. I teach Mathematics on a one-to-one basis to students at different levels. I have a BSc in Mathematics from Imperial College, London and an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Warwick.

Teaching Experience:

I have over five years of private tutoring experience in Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to establish what the student knows and needs during the sessions, building upon their existing knowledge and closing gaps. My approach typically involves working with pupils on their weaker topics, giving them confidence to work progressively through text book questions and then past papers. I try to break problems down into manageable chunks and explain those parts that do not make sense in more detail, using my communication skills to pass on my subject knowledge.

An integral part of the sessions and the student progression is the completion of weekly homework. Whilst I may not ask for specific questions or exercises to be completed each week, feedback from the follow-up work is crucial in ensuring that progress is continually being made.
