Personal Description:
I completed Nuclear Power Engineering degree studies in 1990 after 6 years of training in Havana and Moscow. Between 1990 and 2004, I worked as a Biomedical researcher in the fields of Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Vaccine Development. This involves collaboration with many European and American research teams and working visits to leading Biomedical centres in UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Spain including several UK Royal Society Fellowships and a UK Wellcome Trust International Travelling Post-doctoral Fellowship at Glasgow University Division of Immunology/Microbiology, which can be followed up by publication in peer-review scientific journals. Since 2006, I have been teaching Mathematics at GCSE and A-levels in the UK and currently, I am teaching at these levels plus International Baccalaureate Level. I have been an external marker (Mathematics in English and Spanish languages) for the International Baccalaureate Organisation for the last two years. Born in Cuba, Spanish is my mother tongue, thus i am able to tutor at any level in these two subjects: Mathematics and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 4 years, I have had the opportunity to teach both in Scotland and England, thus I am familiar with mathematics teaching programmes in both locations. This include pupils at all stages of secondary education from 11-14 up to Advanced Highers/Advanced A-levels. It includes extensive tutoring practice with pupils preparing for GCSE(Standard Grade) and A(Higher) exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the role of a tutor is to encourage and guide pupils who are already interested to succeed in a particular topic. Thus, I would provide all the encouragement and academic support for them to achieve their top potential. In my experience over the years, I have observed over and over again, that pupils preparing for A/Higher levels exams show most difficulties linking contents taught in previous years(GCSE/Standard Grade) to the newer A/Higher level topics. Thus, I focus a good deal of attention to fill those gaps and develop both pupils' awareness of these connections and relevant knowledge and skills in such a way they are capable to perform independently achieving consistently a minimum of 70%-85% in practice papers prior to the actual exam date.

I have a first class degree in mathematics. I am learning Russian. I am interested in astronomy.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped many students achieve much better results than they initially expected. Many people find that they can understand what they at first found difficult in a well managed one to one setting. I give the lessons at my home. I have been tutoring since 1987. I have a first class honours degree in mathematics. I work as a mathematics tutor in a state school, teaching A level maths to sixth-formers and able pupils in lower years. I have also helped students prepare for STEP. I get about half my students on recommendation

Tutoring Approach:

I do in the lesson what the student asks me to do, but I am prepared to structure a course for somebody not in school,

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, self-motivated Teaching Professional, with significant experience as Translator/Interpreter, European Project Manager and Public Relations.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 25 years of language teaching in diverse environments - secondary schools, vocational schools and as a private teacher - and I consider myself very successful in motivating students and coping with their individual needs and expectations of communicating efficiently in a foreign/second language.

I have also been a tutor for all levels of language learning, including degree level and adults, interested in improving their language skills for business, travelling, cultural or family purposes.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage students to enjoy and collaborate in their learning. I also have extensive experience working with adult learners, preparing them to exams or to their business and travel goals, as well as communicating inside the family.

My aim is to provide good quality teaching in a homely atmosphere.

I tend to focus in improving spoken fluency and listening skills of my students. Grammar is also a part of my tuition as part of the conversation skills and explained in context. Culture is also very important in each lesson.

I always ensure adequate differentiation in my teaching, taking into consideration the individual learning needs and learning styles of my students. This results of good communication between both parties and learner assessment throughout the course.

Fundamental to my approach is the enthusiasm for the subjects I teach. I sincerely enjoy teaching and supporting the students in improving their skills.

I can ensure fast and excellent results.

Personal Description:
Hi, I have always had a love for languages and would love to instil you with the same enthusiasm. After having lived abroad as part of my degree, I then graduated with a BA Hons Degree Class 2.1 in Modern Languages (German, French and Italian), after which I obtained my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). After teaching, I also worked for International companies, using my languages extensively by liaising with customers and colleagues overseas and also translating and interpreting. I have always kept my languages fresh by reading foreign literature and keeping in touch with German / French friends. I am mother to 4 children, but even after my children were born, I continued to do some freelance translation. As a mother and as a teacher, I know the importance of patience and how important it is to make learning worthwhile, enjoyable and fun!

Teaching Experience:

After qualifying as a Languages teacher, I have taught German and French in a Comprehensive School to the 11-18 age group. I have tutored teenagers and adults privately in both German and French. I have also provided French classes in one of the International companies I worked for.

Tutoring Approach:

I can offer a learning program which is specifically tailored to suit the individuals needs, whatever the level of knowledge or ability. If required, lessons can be adapted to focus on specific areas such as grammar or conversation practice. My experience in using languages in a business setting also means that I am also well placed to teach lanuages to adults for business purposes. I am a perfectionist and will strive to offer the best tuition possible, by thorough preparation and the use of a variety of learning materials and approaches. If required homework can be set to consolidate knowledge learnt. I want your learning to be productive and engaging. It can open a window into foreign culture and soon you will realise how much fun it is to be able to communicate in another language.

Personal Description:
I am a teacher at a GCSE and Sixth Form college in west London.
I have a podcast about education, Education Bookcast. I cover one book or article on education research per week, for the benefit of teachers, parents, and anybody else who is interested.
I have been tutoring since 2006.
I also write educational software.
I am a Chemical Engineering graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring in 2006. My students have been of a variety of levels and backgrounds, ranging from Key Stage 3 Foundation level students to GCSE, A-level, and university students.

Here are some of the things my students have to say about me:

"Stas is an excellent tutor, I am studying Mechanical Engineering and his knowledge of Maths, Mechanics and Thermo Dynamics is extensive. He explained things in a clear and precise way and was always well prepared for the sessions. He was also punctual and reliable; it was a pleasure to learn from him."
Jack, Liverpool University

"I am currently studying Chemical Engineering, and Stas tutored me for Process Engineering, his teaching was nothing but the best, i understood the course in no time. He explains everything from the basics, something i wanted. Honestly, I will recommend him any day! He is a brilliant tutor."
Zahra, Manchester University

"Stas is an enthusiastic and patient Maths tutor. He has provided me with some very good examples, and has been a great help."
Jim, Manchester Metropolitan University, MA Bioinformatics

"Stas is a great tutor. I feel much more confident with Maths now then I did when we first started. It is evident in my grades that Stas has helped me improve in Maths. He is very good at explaining the material that I don't understand; he uses different scenarios to help explain them which enables me to apply Maths to real life situations. I enjoyed our tuition sessions, as Stas made Maths fun!"
Sehr, Manchester, A-level Maths

"This has been our first experience of using a tutor and it has been very good, thanks to Stas. Not only is he very reliable, but my son has enjoyed the sessions and learnt a great deal in terms of problem solving with his maths, Further Maths and Physics. Stas has also been able to help with some more complex Chemistry work. So far, they have worked through the more challenging sections of the Further Maths syllabus and past papers. Most importantly, my son finds their sessions extremely useful and Stas inspirational to work with."
Tamlyn, London

"My son, Alex was having problem with Biology, so far he had only few lessons with Stas but there's been a huge improvement in his grade already. We have been so impressed with Stas's teaching techniques, that we are taking on extra lessons in Maths and Physics with Stas. Stas is the most genuine teacher I've come across, there is no nonsense with him. I can see that Stas truly enjoys teaching and more importantly my son finds learning from Stas is so enjoyable."
Mel, Cheshire

"Stas has been extremely helpful. He has helped me with my math problems even though I am a mature Masters student. Stas was very patient with me and took the time to fully understand my math learning needs and difficulties. He took the time to understand the methods I had been previously taught but did not fully understand. He analyzed what my difficulties and issues were regarding math basics. Stas is a very professional and an effective teacher. I would highly recommend Stas to anyone who requires a math tutor."
Paola

Tutoring Approach:

Different people have different problems, so it would be somewhat inflexible to have a completely "catch-all" approach to how to teach people.

However, I tend to prefer a teaching style where the student is as active as possible. I usually acheive this by trying to get the student to reason through problems themselves, while helping them along the way. In my experience, this also helps me see where there are gaps in the student's knowledge, and helps me understand their thought process. (It is imperative to understand where the student is in their understanding.) It also helps approach a very common problem with students, which is fear, or lack of confidence - being encouraged to think through ideas and problems which they find difficult in a safe and non-judgmental environment can help them develop a better attitude to their subject.

I also try to offer connections with, and examples from, everyday life. I generally draw and use diagrams as much as possible, or even use props, as I find it to be the most expressive way of teaching.

I am also very enthusiastic about Science and Maths. I often find that this ends up rubbing off on some of my students!

Personal Description:
Hello there! My name is Sam and I'm a full time private tutor who has moved back to London this year. I completed a master's degree in maths at Leeds University and have been teaching ever since. I'm still very passionate about maths and am applying for a PhD to start in the next academic year. My personal time is taken up by studying the areas of maths I want to pursue (category theory and topos theory), learning more undergraduate maths courses so that I can tutor a wider number of areas, rock climbing, highlining and playing gigs. I also have a few maths related side projects such as co-writing a maths textbook aimed at those who have just finished their A levels, and error checking/giving feedback for a soon-to-be published book on topos theory by a researcher in Canada. I enjoy a productive life focussed around my passions of which teaching comes first, as I find nothing more satisfying than helping people and seeing their grades grow. I really appreciate you taking the time to see what I have to offer as a tutor, and hope to hear from you soon.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching in a variety of different areas and environments has been my primary source of work for nearly 8 years now. For the past year and a half since I finished my masters I have been a full time private tutor of maths, predominately working in Leeds. The variety of levels I've had the opportunity to teach has been exceptional. I have taught at GCSE, As, A and further maths level for school level maths along with teaching at every level of undergraduate mathematics, teaching both on a one to one basis and conducting group tutorials with groups of 20 second year students. In particular, it has been deeply gratifying to help foreign students secure undergraduate positions and students with health issues who have needed extra assistance due to being absent from school.
During my degree, I held weekly tutorials for the lower years and gave informal guitar lessons. During my gap year, I worked for six days a week as a climbing instructor for most of the year and taught guitar on my day off. It was over my A level years that I got my first teaching experience as a piano teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

One great difference and indeed benefit of being a private tutor over a teacher is the need to adapt to each individual student. I am in the great position of being able to focus on one student per lesson, and I wouldn't be doing the best work I can if I didn't take advantage of this. My style of teaching therefore revolves around learning from each lesson about the student's evolving strengths and weaknesses, so that I can focus my lesson planning around them for our next meeting. Along with this, I try to encourage students with positive reinforcement. Frankly speaking, maths is a scary subject for a lot of people and I have found that increasing a student's confidence in their ability does wonders for their grades, proving their confidence right. Patience and understanding are key to this form of encouragement. On top of all this, I have to take into account what level the student is studying at. Maths is a very different beast every single year, the challenge of understanding quadratic equations for the first time is very different in nature to understanding quotient groups for the first time, and so I change how I teach depending on the level and age of the student.

Personal Description:
I'm a PhD student in Artificial Intelligence (Computer Science) at Northumbria University, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
I have a Teaching Diploma in Pure Mathematics (2008) and a Master's degree in Computational Mathematics (2014) from Lebanon.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Maths for over 4 years in three different schools in the UAE and Lebanon. I have also tutored more than 70 students of all age groups in the past 10 years.
While I was in Dubai (2008 till 2011), I had to tutor the British and American curricula (O level, A level, IGCSE and IB). I am also able to teach the French curriculum (in French or English).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that students have different learning styles and interests, that's why I try to teach the way they learn.
I am very patient, and I encourage my students to give their best and trust their abilities. I also attempt to help them develop some interest in the subject I tutor.
I do my best to simplify things as much as possible, and come up with different ways to explain difficult concepts.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Gareth! I am motivated and love my job! I teach Primary School children everyday and with that comes challenges and the opportunity to get to know children and their interests. I think it's important for children to get to know me and my interests as I like to create a relaxed and approachable ethos. I play rugby and love watching local and national clubs playing. I am very competitive and enjoy a good game of articulate! I have had the privilege to work with children in Brazil and learned how children learn from different teaching styles especially those with English as an additional language.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching key stage 2 since September 2017. I graduated from Northumbria University in June 2016. Prior to undertaking my PGCE in primary education was working as teaching assistant in a special needs school and a British College primary school in Brazil.
I have tutored children for their AQE exams in the past year and each child has achieved their personal targets. I have seen children grown in confidence and their understanding of the subject deepen which is why I am passionate about my job.

Tutoring Approach:

With encouragement and motivated lessons, every child can achieve their full potential. My aim is to find the areas of misunderstanding in various subject areas and to build a firm foundation of knowledge and understanding. I ensure that the child can access the learning by providing a range of strategies and learning techniques to overcome any challenges.
