Personal Description:
I offer Italian, French and English tuition at all levels, from complete beginners to highers and advanced.

I have a PhD in Modern Languages from La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy (2000), where I studied English as a main subject with French and Italian.

After graduation I spent a long time working in France before relocating to Scotland where I have been teaching Italian, English and French for the past 10 years.

I have students of various age and nationality, both children and adults. I am PVG checked.

I frequently go back to France and Italy in order to keep up-to-date with the language.

Teaching Experience:

University of Aberdeen

Tutoring Approach:

I think that learning a new language is an experience and it should be fun.

I am committed to delivering high quality tuition by offering tailor-made classes to suit different students' needs.

I have experience teaching children and adults one-to-one, one-to-two, and small groups.

I offer flexible hours so my students can arrange the classes according to their needs and availability.

Learning a language is a great opportunity to learn the culture of another country. Therefore, I use different media such as books, online articles and newspapers for reading comprehension, CDs for listening activities and conversation exercises, songs and games for children.

I can prepare for school and university exams and correct written exercises by email at no extra costs.
If you are not sure about your language level, I can assess it during the first class in order to plan a suitable course that suits your needs.

If you are a distance learner at school, college or university I can act as an assessment supervisor for your language tests.

I am enthusiastic for using new technologies to add to the learning experience.

I also offer distance learning tuition through Skype worldwide for all intermediate and advanced learners.

Personal Description:
Master Degree in Applied Mathematics at University of Cambridge (Part III Tripos), focus: Theoretical Physics.

BSc Mathematics and Physics at University College London (UCL). Received 1st-Class Honours over all years.

Graduated 43/45 points in International Baccalaureate (IB) with 7s in (HL) Mathematics, Physics, Economics, (SL) Geography and English. Received 7 A* 1A 1B in IGCSE including above subjects.

4+ years of experience in University/Secondary (especially in A-levels) tutoring. Always highly recognised for excellent teaching and enjoyable lessons!

Teaching Experience:

4+ years of Tutoring experience on IB (International Baccalaureate) and A-level (HL) Mathematics and Physics. Encourage guided training on exercise problems and past papers. Have been highly known for excellent teaching, being clear and rigorous at appropriate levels. All students I've taught have highly positive reviews and enjoyed the lessons thoroughly, while finding themselves coming out with a solid understanding and appreciation of Maths and Physics.

Also I can provide insight if you are thinking of pursuing Mathematics or Physics in University, from "what is maths like in Uni?", to advices in different schools, how to apply and write personal statement, etc.

Tutoring Approach:

Most likely will conduct tutoring in a classroom in University Campus, unless specifically request otherwise. This gives easy access to whiteboard for clearer teaching.

Training in Maths and Physics requires a clear, solid, understanding of the key concepts and rigorous logic. The best approach towards Maths and Physics is to allow tutees to voice any possible doubts towards the subject and then clarify them while making it more solid. After that, consistent practice with real life problems and Past Paper questions, under guidance, will enable tutees to fully achieve their potential, ideally.

Finally, people achieve their best if they find something interesting. All my students so far have always find my teaching fun and enjoyable, making learning much more easy and effective! I believe this is the key to continued learning to maximise one's potentials.

- Interactive approach, clarifying doubts and questions towards subjects
- Able to phrase concepts and theories in clear and fun ways
- Work on past papers questions
- Tips and Advice for exams
- Solid training preparing skills that applies to any subject

Personal Description:
I am currently a Civil Engineer working for Atkins Global, having graduated from Imperial College London. Having studied through all levels of school I can appreciate how useful having a source of targeted teaching is, this is the service I hope to provide. Having participated in youth organisations and group bursary projects I have had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, this allows me to tailor to individuals. I am a STEMNET ambassador for which I volunteer in various schools and teach pupils how to apply classroom knowledge to real world scenarios. I play hockey in my spare time as well as recreationally painting to focus my time on activities outside of work.

Teaching Experience:

I am a STEMNET ambassador. For this role I work with young students in interactive workshops to engage them in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
I was enrolled in a mentoring scheme in university, for which I was assigned multiple students. I provided guidance with work and general university issues.
During my time at secondary school and sixth form, I worked in sessions with younger students during which time we would cover material which they were struggling with.
Participated in a youth organisation, BSS Shaka, for which in my role as a senior member would organise and run weekly workshops which focused upon cultural learning as well as sporting activities.

Tutoring Approach:

Methods for teaching are subject to the individual therefore I strive to find a method which worst best for both parties. Aside from teaching the core syllabus I also would like to know what you struggle with such that more emphasis can be put upon that. I prefer to set up a dialog with my students such that the teaching is more interactive. I will prepare a lesson plan, and set students questions to work on between sessions; anything which they are unsure of can be covered in the next session.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance software developer and professional trainer who also provides one-to-one personal tuition services in computing, programming and IT related subjects. I took my first steps in programming as long ago as 1981, and have been a professional software developer since 1987. Along with the teaching and training side of my career, I develop software and web-sites for my clients, and I have been published several times in respected programming-journals.

I am also a BBC preferred-supplier, and am a Professional member of the Association for Computing Machinery (founded in 1947 - the world's largest and most prestigious scientific and educational computing society).

Teaching Experience:

I have provided private-tuition services since 1992, and was a lecturer at Roehampton University from September 1998 to October 1999. I have provided professional training services since 1999, during which time I have delivered over 100 professional courses in programming and software design and development, for companies in the aircraft industry, computer gaming, banking, web development and the BBC.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching and training pivots on the most important factor - passion for one's subject. I attempt to demonstrate to the student the power and beauty of what computing and programming involves, and place a firm emphasis on explaining concepts in the simplest and most day-to-day terms.

In the sphere of private tuition for children and young adults, I have found that working through past exam-papers with the pupil or student is an extremely effective way of helping the individual's understanding and exam performance to improve.

In the sphere of the professional training I provide, clients cite frequently my passion for the subject, the original and clear explanations that I use, and the depth of my technical understanding, as the factors of note in their view of my services.

Personal Description:
I am a teacher at a GCSE and Sixth Form college in west London.
I have a podcast about education, Education Bookcast. I cover one book or article on education research per week, for the benefit of teachers, parents, and anybody else who is interested.
I have been tutoring since 2006.
I also write educational software.
I am a Chemical Engineering graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring in 2006. My students have been of a variety of levels and backgrounds, ranging from Key Stage 3 Foundation level students to GCSE, A-level, and university students.

Here are some of the things my students have to say about me:

"Stas is an excellent tutor, I am studying Mechanical Engineering and his knowledge of Maths, Mechanics and Thermo Dynamics is extensive. He explained things in a clear and precise way and was always well prepared for the sessions. He was also punctual and reliable; it was a pleasure to learn from him."
Jack, Liverpool University

"I am currently studying Chemical Engineering, and Stas tutored me for Process Engineering, his teaching was nothing but the best, i understood the course in no time. He explains everything from the basics, something i wanted. Honestly, I will recommend him any day! He is a brilliant tutor."
Zahra, Manchester University

"Stas is an enthusiastic and patient Maths tutor. He has provided me with some very good examples, and has been a great help."
Jim, Manchester Metropolitan University, MA Bioinformatics

"Stas is a great tutor. I feel much more confident with Maths now then I did when we first started. It is evident in my grades that Stas has helped me improve in Maths. He is very good at explaining the material that I don't understand; he uses different scenarios to help explain them which enables me to apply Maths to real life situations. I enjoyed our tuition sessions, as Stas made Maths fun!"
Sehr, Manchester, A-level Maths

"This has been our first experience of using a tutor and it has been very good, thanks to Stas. Not only is he very reliable, but my son has enjoyed the sessions and learnt a great deal in terms of problem solving with his maths, Further Maths and Physics. Stas has also been able to help with some more complex Chemistry work. So far, they have worked through the more challenging sections of the Further Maths syllabus and past papers. Most importantly, my son finds their sessions extremely useful and Stas inspirational to work with."
Tamlyn, London

"My son, Alex was having problem with Biology, so far he had only few lessons with Stas but there's been a huge improvement in his grade already. We have been so impressed with Stas's teaching techniques, that we are taking on extra lessons in Maths and Physics with Stas. Stas is the most genuine teacher I've come across, there is no nonsense with him. I can see that Stas truly enjoys teaching and more importantly my son finds learning from Stas is so enjoyable."
Mel, Cheshire

"Stas has been extremely helpful. He has helped me with my math problems even though I am a mature Masters student. Stas was very patient with me and took the time to fully understand my math learning needs and difficulties. He took the time to understand the methods I had been previously taught but did not fully understand. He analyzed what my difficulties and issues were regarding math basics. Stas is a very professional and an effective teacher. I would highly recommend Stas to anyone who requires a math tutor."
Paola

Tutoring Approach:

Different people have different problems, so it would be somewhat inflexible to have a completely "catch-all" approach to how to teach people.

However, I tend to prefer a teaching style where the student is as active as possible. I usually acheive this by trying to get the student to reason through problems themselves, while helping them along the way. In my experience, this also helps me see where there are gaps in the student's knowledge, and helps me understand their thought process. (It is imperative to understand where the student is in their understanding.) It also helps approach a very common problem with students, which is fear, or lack of confidence - being encouraged to think through ideas and problems which they find difficult in a safe and non-judgmental environment can help them develop a better attitude to their subject.

I also try to offer connections with, and examples from, everyday life. I generally draw and use diagrams as much as possible, or even use props, as I find it to be the most expressive way of teaching.

I am also very enthusiastic about Science and Maths. I often find that this ends up rubbing off on some of my students!

Personal Description:
I'm a flexible, energetic and dynamic tutor offering lessons in English, Violin and 11+ to students from primary age to A-level and beyond. I have a passion for English literature and music, and I love to teach.

As I have been finishing my PhD, I have gradually been taking on more pupils for private tuition. I specialize in bringing the academic study of English to life for school students by combining a dynamic and accessible approach with the exciting ideas and research I have experienced at university level.

Teaching Experience:

I have a range of classroom and 1-to-1 teaching experience. As an English tutor, I have worked with a range of students from primary to PhD level. I am experienced at preparing students for exams, 11+ and university entrance, including intensive revision work to prepare students for a particular exam.
I have also delivered the GCSE English curriculum to a home-schooled pupil as her only English teacher. At the University of St Andrews, I was employed for 3 years as a tutor for undergraduate students in the English and Music departments. Through my tutorials on essay writing skills, I was able to significantly improve the marks of my cohort of students, and I teach the same techniques to my pupils at school stage. After qualifying with the widely recognized CELTA certificate in English Language Teaching, I spent several summers teaching English language to classes of children and teenagers aged from 10 to 18.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning with a tutor can be much, much more fun than learning in school! And since literature is all about life, learning to critically read and interpret literary texts, whether at GCSE or undergraduate level, will open your eyes to look at the world in a new way. I love the fact that through my experience of university life as a student and teacher, I can fast-track my school-aged pupils to the skills and ideas they'll need at university and beyond. The study of English literature at university is a different world to that at school - I wish I had known at school how rich and interesting the subject was. Through my teaching, I aim to inspire my students not only to understand and appreciate the great works of literature that they study, but to use them to understand big ideas about history and society.

I am also keenly aware of the requirements of the various exam boards, and I tailor my approach to developing skills to excel in particular exams and beyond. I particularly enjoy preparing students for exams such as GCSE and A-level, and I am equally at home providing challenging debate to stretch the most gifted and talented pupils, or inspiring enthusiasm in students who want to improve their grades. One of the best things about private tuition is seeing my pupils develop their confidence, whether in musical performance or tackling the big ideas in works of literature.

As a violin teacher, I love to teach beginners of any age, but particularly young children. My lessons are lively, interactive and engaging, developing all-round musical ability in a way that is fun and motivating. I can also act as a practice buddy for any instrument, and assist with reading music, sight-reading, music theory and aural training skills.

As Actor In Residence I worked as a drama teacher, activity leader, LAMDA/Trinity coach, director, producer and I assisted in the day to day running of the 500 seat theatre. I taught 2nd and 3rd Form (Yr 7 & 8) drama using existing schemes of work alongside those I created. I taught over 150 pupils per week and as their only drama teacher I was responsible for their reports, three-weekly grades and parent's evenings. The school were so pleased with my contributions to teaching they offered me twice my teaching hours in my second year. I also team taught Yr 9 lessons and I assisted with directing etc in GCSE and A-Level lessons. Alongside academic teaching I led Drama 'actives' after lessons where I created and lead a one hour drama workshop several times a week. Working at Christ's Hospital also gave me the chance to work in a busy theatre environment combining set design, prop making, theatre maintenance, stage management and front of house management. I also directed and co-directed several shows including 'Anything Goes', 'The Crucible', 'Grim Tales', 'Ernie' Incredible Illuciantions', 'Easy Virtue' and 'The Jungle Book'. Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

Behaviour Management
PR

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, fun and experienced tutor. I believe a healthy dose of humour and kindness is important when teaching and I am a very professional and hard working person.

Hello!

My names is Vincent and I am a 24 year old postgraduate with an international background.

I lived in Germany 19 years, in Austria 3,5 years and in the UK for one year.

I have finished my MSc Health Psychology degree in the UK and am currently offering my academic and professional skills and knowledge as a tutor.
I see my main tutoring strengths in teaching German, Psychology and Statistics, as I have been developing these at an academic research level.

Teaching Experience:

My main teaching experience has been in German speaking countries and in the clinical healthcare sector.

Primary to GCSE level (German Hauptschulreife) in Maths with 3 children aged 10-15.

A-level to University level in Psychology with 2 students and adults in a seminar.

Teaching and speaking German with 1 child and 1 adult.

Application of behavioural reinforcement plans in psychiatry with children with special needs.

Teaching study skills to friends and students based on psychological theory.

Tutoring Approach:

After nearly 20 years of my own education (school and academia) I feel that it is very important to support a relaxing atmosphere while learning.

For me it is about the goals and values that develop during learning and teaching.

I am very open minded and flexible to adapt to the personal learning style of individuals and helping them with my knowledge and skills in the best way possible. Learning should be productive and fun, as we never stop learning during our life.
