Personal Description:
I have a PhD and an MLitt from The University of Glasgow, and a BA (Hons) degree from University of Paisley.

I am an on-line and off-line personal tutor with much experience in several subject areas including English, English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies, and General Writing Skills. I have taught a range of students off-line from pre-exam age (11+) to Standard Grade, Higher, and university level, and on-line for pre-exam level (12+), GCSE, AS level, A-Level, university level, postgraduate and the adult learners.

Teaching Experience:

A well as being an experienced on-line and off-line personal tutor, I have also had several other academic jobs including:

Lecturer at Forth Valley College

Seminar tutor at The University of Glasgow

Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Glasgow

Top-Up Tutor at The University of Glasgow

Step Up to University Lecturer at University of West of Scotland

REACH Tutor at University of Glasgow

Proof Reader at University of Glasgow, University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Rural University College

Note Taker at University of Glasgow, University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Rural University College

Study Support Tutor at University of Glasgow, University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Rural University College

Transcriber at University of the West of Scotland

Support Worker at University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Rural University College

Exam Scribe at University of Glasgow and Scottish Rural University College

Exam Invigilator at Scottish Rural University College

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on).

Personal Description:
I have always been aware of the importance of cultivating languages and thanks to my Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpreting and my subsequent work,I have excellent skills all round in Spanish, my mother tongue. Furthermore, I have gained a broad experience of making use of my linguistic skills in French.

Teaching Experience:

My stays abroad include The University of Sheffield as a Spanish Assistant, which I feel has contributed to the development of my educational abilities. I particularly worked in Spanish language classes, solving grammatical, phonetic or syntactic problems for final year students in the School of Modern Languages and Linguistics. Furthermore, my Spanish teaching qualification (CAP for Secondary Education) equips me with pedagogical and didactic skills, which I feel are transferable to the English educational context.
This summer I have successfully completed a 12 week intensive course 6 unit French Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course and I have achieved Europena Lavel B1.3, which is A Level Standard I taught French at University Level.

Tutoring Approach:

Supportive, well-organized, trying to make it interesting with a wide range of materials.

Personal Description:
I have a lifetime of experience in fine art (drawing and painting) as well as in graphic design and photography.
I now practice as a professional artist/painter. I use several mediums, pencil, conte, pastel, watercolour, acrylic and (mostly) oil.
I live in the Surrey Hills and am inspired by the landscape. However I am interested in picture making at all levels in any subject, believing that the subject is merely a reference point to an idea.
Art is largely subjective but is, like music, expressive of emotion, thought, ideas, and self.
I am an award winning artist having won the ArTTable Bronze Frame for my still life in 2015/

Teaching Experience:

Adult Education at Ruxley Lane Centre, Epsom and at Reigate School of Art, Redhill.
Secondary Education at Carshalton High school for Girls.
University/Further Ed. at Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Falmouth, East Surrey College, Norwich and Croydon Colleges of Art.
I tutor as workshops individually in my Buckland studio, or individual tuition at the subjects' homes.
I also visit and tutor in art groups and clubs by request.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in clear demonstration of artistic principles and techniques and by guided practice by students. I am against the traditional style of art tutoring that simply allows the student to work with sometime critical comment 'over the shoulder'.
Art can be taught to a good technical level in the same way as any subject. Whilst everyone has natural ability to a degree, the student can learn to observe and record by training the eye and right brain. Many have no confidence in their ability. My aim is to give knowledge that inspires confidence so that a student may understand image making and learn to develop their own style through understanding of the principles of drawing, composition and creative expression.

Personal Description:
I'm a Research Fellow at Cranfield University. I found Chemistry very difficult at High School and have worked hard over the last 13 years studying the science, in the process of gaining my Honours degree and Doctorate, to improve my understanding but I honestly still find it difficult at times. I have a huge amount of enthusiasm for my science and find myself reading Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy in my spare time as well as watching countless lectures and home made videos from other scientists on YouTube.

Teaching Experience:

I have a moderate amount of tutoring experience but I'm confident that this is compensated by my energy and knowledge of my field, I love what I do and revel in helping people understand it with me.

Professionally I have worked with many masters students and tutored them on some more advanced aspects of Chemistry such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and practical Organic Chemistry. I also lecture on several subjects at my University and have received excellent feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually try to work with images first to help the student picture what we are trying to learn. I find that once a student has a working model or analogy in their head it is much easier to advance and increase their understanding eventually leading to the removal of the analogy.

I find that exercises are useful to build a strong memory of facts and figures associated with the science. I don't believe in learning by rote (although it will pass most exams) if you are interested in a sound understanding of a theory or subject. Any tutoring that I provide will be tailored to the student's particular preference in learning style.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Zoe. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, studying English Language and Literature at St Peter's College.

I'm an experienced tutor and I believe that with a good, solid education everyone's opportunities in life become better. I am patient and very committed to getting the best from my students.

Prior to university I attended Streatham and Clapham High School (8-16), and Wallington County Grammar School (16-18).

I completed A-Levels in English, Medieval History, French, Classical Civilisation and Philosophy AS Level.

My main interest is English Literature but I am ever-keen to use my French, and am also passionate about History, both ancient and modern. At GCSE level I opted to study primarily languages, namely French, German, Latin and Ancient Greek, and I am so grateful for the skills and linguistic understanding these diverse subjects have given me.

I am a keen reader, theatre-goer and traveller; I also enjoy sports, particularly running, netball and cycling. I live in southwest London and am happy to travel.

Teaching Experience:

I have plenty of experience tutoring people of all ages, and am currently specialising in English, French and History lessons and entrance/university interview preparation lessons.

I have worked as a temporary assistant at Faulkner House School in South Kensington during my Easter holiday from university in 2010 (children aged 3-11).

At school I worked on a mentor programme helping students from younger years with their French speaking practice and also with extra English.

I have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification.

I worked with a local Brownie pack from 2006-8 which involved working with children aged 7-10, running a variety of crafts activities and games.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in the ability of each person to achieve academic success through hard work, and also understand the need for patience and perseverance to succeed.

Having benefited from one-on-one tutoring during my own education for those subjects I struggled with at school, I have first hand experience of the importance of a good tutor and just how much difference one can make.

I have a real passion for the subjects I studied at university and at A-Level and I communicate that, whilst simultaneously providing relevant and informed tuition sessions.

Personal Description:
For the last four years I have worked full time as a tutor but have tutored alongside studying for seven years. I am a graduate of Durham (BA History), and UCL (MA Central and South Eastern European Studies).

My main areas of interest are humanities and languages and I am an enthusiastic and passionate communicator. I currently hold a DBS check certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I am a very experienced tutor, having spent the past seven academic years tutoring a range of subjects, and have a passion for teaching and communication. Having been a part time participant of mainstream education until recently, and having tutored many different pupils at different levels in different subjects in that time, I have a clear understanding of the structure of current A-Level courses and the necessary requirements. I have a very high success rate with many of my pupils achieving the highest grades and all demonstrating a marked improvement since tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my tutoring approach to the tutee's needs and the subject being taught. Generally, I do a combination of exam technique, subject revision and coursework support. I have made many an amusing yet educational quiz and strongly encourage pupils to achieve the best grade possible.

Please also note: Tutoring is my sole occupation and consequently I require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations otherwise I have to charge in full for the missed lesson.

Personal Description:
My name is Haidee, I'm a 19 year old from Liverpool studying French at The University of Liverpool. (I often go to Kirkby and Fazackerly to work and see family so would often be available to tutor in that area too). I have thoroughly enjoyed learning French for 8 years and would love to pass on my knowledge so that you can enjoy learning French too! This is my first time tutoring but I have a genuine love and flair for languages and have enjoyed teaching friends in my own time, so please don't let this put you off as I would love to help!

In school I sat my GCSE early at the age of 14 (year 9), passing with a B. I then continued to study French for the final two years of school and passed again with an A*. I also started studying Spanish in the last two years and passed with an A. During college I studied French to A2 level, passing with a B. In my time in college I spent a week each year in Montpellier living with a French family and attending a French language school, which I really enjoyed and feel helped me with my learning.

In my free time I love to cook (although I'm not very good at it!), go out for meals (when my cooking goes wrong!), read and watch films. I also love to practise Tae Kwon Do, which I started at the age of 15, although I don't do this since I moved away to university.

Teaching Experience:

This is my first time trying tutoring, but I often helped my sister with her French to GCSE level. I also helped a friend of mine who struggled in school to pass her English and Maths GCSE by using imaginative teaching and memory techniques, to which she was very grateful. Due to having friends that also study languages I am used to being able to help others in areas in which they struggle. I have worked with children and young adults from age 2-18 part-time for the past 3 years and so would be comfortable teaching from all ages.

Tutoring Approach:

Throughout my learning experience I have found that it is best to learn the basic rules and grammar of a language from the start, as this has made it easier to build on this. I have lots of quirky ways of remembering things myself and would urge you to figure out how best you learn in order to develop your own style. I also enjoy to watch films/news, listen to music and read genuine French articles to enhance my own learning and would be using these to make your learning more interesting. As not every individual is the same I will adapt my teaching to suit your style and meet your individual needs and if there's something different you want to do please let me know so I can change!

Personal Description:
As an energetic, polite, and highly motivated individual I absolutely commit to anything that I participate in: from playing musical instruments, to touch rugby to teaching! I take my commitments very seriously and I am always dedicated to my work, throwing my considerable personality to inspire all those around me to do better.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a 4th Year student at the University of Stirling studying Secondary Education with English and will graduate with a BA Hons in August 2016. As a student on the course I have first hand experience of teaching to numbers between 12 and 30 pupils ranging from the ages of 10 up to 17, teaching all the Scottish National qualifications and the 'new Higher'. This has happened both within the university and out on placements within schools in my area; therefore I have an acute understanding of the difference between English studies and English teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very professional yet enthusiastic individual who takes an immense pride in his work: being pro-active and flexible to meet the individual requirements of pupils / clients is something that I take very seriously. Positivity is also a very important aspect that I bring to my teaching as I believe that a positive attitude fosters both positive results and a positive work ethic for my pupils.

Personal Description:
I am a part time lecturer at Gray's working on the short courses programme. I teach on the Portfolio Building, Drawing and Mixed Media courses. I am shortly to have an exhibition at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston as part of a six month residency. I am Recent graduate of the Slade MFA program and I have been consistently exhibiting since, such as the Creekside open selected by Richard Deacon/Lisa Milroy, the BFA Futures at the Mall gallery, York College and the Zetta Hotel in London. I have also been establishing a drawing and painting workshop at Marymount International school and have given talks on my work and the benefits of doing an MA.

I came to Art in my 30's as a mature student via short courses. This form of education is a great way of developing artists through a different route than more traditional means while opening up opportunities to a diverse field of practitioners. I feel very passionate about education and how it has transformed my own life which has given me fantastic opportunities that I could never have thought of. I believe that art should be for all and that everyone has the potential to be a great artist.

My own work involves drawing from life through strict observation through the genre of still life in. I work in oil, watercolour and acrylic which continues into both portraits and landscapes. With these I explore the relationship between the hand and the eye, nature and culture, the raw and the cooked and how this dichotomy exists in the historical and contemporary art. For example I am interested in the Gesture of the hand in Velazquez, Titian and Tintoretto as apposed to established Renaissance painting which where drawn and then filled with colour. I see a mirror to this in more conceptual art such as Art and Language or Sol Le Witt compared to a gestural painters such as Philip Guston, Morandi or Joan Mitchell.

Teaching Experience:

Present- Gray's School of Art 'Foundation Portfolio Building/Plus'. Mixed Media and Drawing (Short Courses)

2016- Marymount International School, 'Drawing from a Personal Object' workshop, ongoing.

2015- Kingston University, MA presentation

Awards
2016 Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding
2016 BFA Futures Award- Finding the Future of Figurative Art
2015 The Desiree Prize for Painting
2015 Nominated for the Land Securities Studio Award
2015 The Bergman Residency, Taroudant, Morocco
2012 The AP Fitzpatrick Prize for Painting

Tutoring Approach:

I believe drawing to be at the basis of all work. I see having a firm grasp of drawing from life as a key skill behind any artistic endeavour.

My own skills include:

Personal Description:
Ciao! I'm Marco, I am a native Italian speaker and I live in Cardiff. I have been teaching Italian in this town for about six months at different levels, from beginners to advanced. I offer 1:1 or 1:2 private lessons, travelling to people's houses and I am also available to teach small groups of students of any age. If you are interested in improving your conversation, grammar, reading, listening or writing skills , and if you would like to know more about Italian culture, feel free to contact me at anytime!

Teaching Experience:

I have two years experience in teaching English at different levels in Italy. I have been teaching Italian for about 6 months in Cardiff, at the moment I teach a small group of people, in which my lessons are focused on grammar and conversation, and I also give 1:1 private classes every week.

Tutoring Approach:

I adapt the content from one lesson to another to meet people's needs. What really matters is that students realise that they make progress , and that they have fun while learning.
I love teaching and I do my best to make people enjoy my lessons.
