Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher of German and Spanish and I have been teaching for a number of years. I am now working as a teacher of Modern Languages in a secondary school.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of one-to-one and small group tutoring and I have a thorough knowledge of the Scottish school curriculum including arrangements for the new National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. I have now taught the new Curriculum for Excellnece courses in both German and Spanish and have a good understanding of levels and assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is a great way of learning a language because you benefit from full attention of your tutor. I plan and deliver my lessons to suit my pupils' needs. Passing an exam often needs specialist preparation with someone who knows the exam system and can guide their pupil/student through e.g. unit assessments, Talking exam preparation etc.
On the other hand, we learn languages to use them independently, free from the constraints of selected exam topics. This is where vocabulary, language structure and grammar come together and enables the learner to use their learning in different contexts. I teach all areas effectively using tried and tested techniques and resources that will help my learners improve their knowledge of the language.

Personal Description:
I have a very broad based scientific knowledge that I have developed throughout a lifetime devoted to academic and applied research. I hold a BSc degree in chemistry and zoology and a PhD in endocrine physiology. I have worked abroad in a medical research laboratory, at the Max plank Institute for Biochemistry, where I investigated the genetic basis for hereditary diseases of connective tissue. During that time I became a fluent German speaker. Subsequently I worked for over 25 years as a senior scientist at Rothamsted Research, which is a world renowned Plant Research Institute. At Rothamsted I acquired specialised knowledge in soil science, plant nutrient acquisition, molecular biology, metabolite chemistry, plant biotic stress and chemical ecology. Consequently, I can offer an in depth and up to date knowledge of a number of different areas relevant to the A level biology and chemistry curricula and to the three GCSE science subjects. Also, I have a unique perspective that I bring to my tutoring that emanates from my professional scientific experience. I believe that I can introduce a fresh angle to the learning experience that builds upon that acquired in the class room.

Teaching Experience:

Through out my career as a scientist, teaching and mentoring has been an integral part of my activities. I have taught a number of graduate and undergraduate students, visiting workers, other colleagues and junior members of staff to acquire theoretical, practical and communication (both written and oral) skills. I have undertaken in house training as a PhD supervisor and I have played a major role in the supervision of at least six PhD students and three bursary students. All have successfully completed their experimental tasks, written their theses and gone on to progress their careers.
I am an experienced speaker at International and National conferences and I have delivered seminars and lectures to both specialist and non specialist audiences.
I have organised practical projects for groups of students from local secondary schools as part of the requirement for the CREST award. One of the projects involved measuring vitamin C levels in different foods and the students were surprised to discover that cabbage was the best source. In another project different varieties of barley were tested for their tolerance to high levels of salt and the students were able to establish that the most tolerant varieties accumulated salt in their leaves.
Since leaving full time science (due to funding cuts) I have initiated a career in private tutoring to A level and GCSE students. I have been teaching up to thirty pupils concurrently, either in my home or in their own homes. I have been employed at Kings College London to teach an A level Chemistry access course, which involves delivering 4 hours of lectures per week to a group of students from overseas. I have also taken a course to qualify as a teacher of English as a foreign language (CELTA/PTLLS). During the course I gained experience in teaching both elementary and advanced intermediate adult students from a range of different nationalities.
I was a school governor for many years and partly as a result of this I was often called upon to prepare students for university interviews, particularly for science, medicine and dentistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a student centred approach to teaching, trying to understand the needs of the individual pupil and tailoring the lesson content accordingly. By limiting the amount of "teacher talk" at the outset I try to provide the student with the opportunity to convey what their interests and aptitudes are and what areas of the subject they may be struggling with, so that they can benefit maximally from my tutoring. I consider it essential that I build their confidence and create an atmosphere where they are happy to participate actively in the lessons and test out their ideas. I attribute great importance to positive rapport with the student and try to develop a trusting relationship, both with the pupil and, if apropriate, with the parents.
I plan the lessons carefully, always starting with targeted questions before moving on to detailed explanations of problem areas. I have a large collection of past papers which I use to re enforce the learning and check understanding. For particularly difficult topics, photosynthesis, respiration and oxidative phosphorylation for example, I find it helpful to recap in the subsequent lesson to ensure that the student has grasped the important concepts inorder to enable them to answer the questions confidently in an exam situation.
Obviously, I enjoy teaching keen students who have an ambition to pursue science further but I also find it rewarding to make lessons interesting and enjoable for those who are less engaged with the subject.

Personal Description:
Graduate with BA in English Language and Communication from Kings College London. Studied English Language, Media Studies and Sociology at GCSE and A-Level achieved grade A for each. Since university, I have been working in media / communications for well respected agencies and across several brands for the past four years.

I have been offering a tutoring service in English (Literature & Language), Media Studies and Sociology at all ages / levels for over four years and have built up a successful student base.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching English across all ages from primary school to helping adults at degree level. This includes previous tutoring experience, teaching English as a second or foreign language and teaching children in South Africa through a voluntary scheme. Along with English I can also provide tutoring in Media Studies and Sociology as these were subjects I achieved grade A in a A-level and were also a large part of my degree covering everything from grammar, linguistics to advertising. I also have experience in supporting children with language difficulties such as autism.

In addition to this, I can also support with any editorial requirements such as personal statements, CVs, proof-reading etc.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a calm, patient approach to teaching, treating each and every student as an individual with their own approach to learning which I believe is extremely important for any one-on-one tutoring. I will ensure that each session is maximised and that the progress of the student is measured on this in way that they feel comfortable with. Tutoring is about tailoring skills to suit the needs and work towards a goal, I will not place unnecessary pressure on the student or make them feel uneasy, I have 5 years experience in doing this and have built a great tutoring base so far. This is something I do because I have a passion for helping others and enjoy seeing the student make great progression with a little extra support.

I already have great experience in the areas mentioned above and this can extend to proofreading, checking grammar and other editorial requests for coursework, CV's, essays and dissertations.

Personal Description:
I graduated from UCL with a First in Classics in 2008, and have since worked for Marks and Spencer as a Commercial Manager. I have maintained my interest in the ancient world and languages and have continued to study at Birkbeck. I am now returning to University to complete a PGCE in Classics (2013/2014).

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately since 2012, and have had a range of pupils aged from 11 through to A Level. Although I am just starting my teacher training, I have been observing in a variety of schools for the last six months. I have a detailed understanding of the curriculum for each school year and the GCSE, AS and A Level set texts and the language level required.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiasm for Classics which I have been told is infectious, and I am a firm believer that learning should be enjoyable. I have studied Latin since the age of 11, and Greek since 16, and have a very thorough knowledge of grammar and syntax in both languages. I am particularly skilled at Unseen Translation and Prose Composition.

I tailor my tuition to my pupil by informally assessing their language ability during our first session. I offer language tuition at any level and have experience of preparing students for University Entrance Exams. I am also well practiced in tutoring Greek to A Level students intending to study Classics at degree level.

I am working in the NHS as a research unit co-ordinator. I have studied B.Sc in Biochemistry and have Masters degree in Biomedical science with management studies from Kingston university London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught science in a secondary school as a science teacher. At present I tutor up to A-levels. I have 5 years of experience of tutoring within the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

Proper communication and interaction is the key to understanding and learning. I make sure that my student understands the topic before proceeding, this includes giving relevant examples, testing the student's ability and correcting at every step.
I would prefer students to have the right textbooks, so that we follow the syllabus all the time, and prepare for the exam following the right modules and topics. It also enables the students to have a guidance when studying independently.
