Tutoring Approach:

My approach is firstly to assess closely where the gaps in my pupil's knowledge are and then build on closing them through grammar and vocabulary. I therefore give my students the building blocks to construct their own sentences in writing and speech.

I will work with them sometimes using their own text books but also I provide my own material to make the lessons more interesting. I will use games/quizzes as well as focussing on past papers and oral exams to help them gain confidence in the language.

I engage well with all my pupils and they always enjoy their lessons with me so that their time with me does not feel like just another extension of school

My conversation lessons with adults are always fast-paced and fun and my pupils widen their vocabulary and gain confidence in the new language very quickly

I'm an Italian girl from Rome who recently moved to the UK to start university at Goldsmiths College. I was raised in a bilingual home, with an Italian father, and Italo-American mother. I'm sociable and open with an interest in music, animals (I have three dogs back home) and sports, especially sailing. I love children and have experience in babysitting: this is why I'm looking to tutor younger people. I'm looking for a job which will not interfere with my studies in order to make a little money aside from what I receive from my family.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have extensive teaching experience, but in Rome I babysat and nurtured two young Italian girls (6 and 8 years old) for around 2 years. As I am bilingual, on request from the girls parents, I often adressed them in English in order to better their language skills. We played educational games, held conversations, watched films and sang songs in order to make the experience as fun and entertaining as possible. Although I realize that I dont have considerable experience I am eager to learn, and teach. Furthermore I was raised with a younger sibling, and in close contact with 3 younger cousins of which I was often left in charge.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to make it as engaging and enjoyable as possible. Youngsters are often in school for a good part of the day, and to leave school just to be privately tutored for an hour or two may result discouraging for them. In order to make these lessons a pleasure, as opposed to a chore, I hope to employ teaching tactics which will produce satisfaction and gratification. I am open to suggestions by part of the parents, but if left to my own accord I would employ the following activities: conversation, typical Italian games which will extend vocabulary, general culture, cooking typical plates, singing traditional songs, watching funny clips, reading stories aloud, and playing pretend games. If required I will be able to engage in grammatical lessons as well, helping the children memorize verbs, quizzing them, and leaving them assignments to work on at home.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is characterised by the following commitments I make to every learner I have the privilege of working with:

- I will place all learners firmly at the centre of the learning experience
- I will lead all learners towards understanding how they learn best and be mindful that academic success is underpinned by aspiration, healthy levels of self-belief, stress management, courage, organisational ability, resilience, creativity and motivation. And that's to name but a few!
- I will hold the highest expectations of all learners and craft memorable learning activities that will encourage a love of learning
- I understand that behind every set of examination results, irrespective of the scores, must stand a person who is equipped, personally, socially and culturally, to prosper in the 21st Century. For this reason, academic tutoring/coaching will always focus on personal as well as academic development.

The Study Skills coaching I offer can help resolve a wide range of common issues that can be barriers to effective learning.If you answer 'yes' to one or more of the following questions, study skills coaching could well be an investment that brings real value to your child and their future:

- Is your child's effort beginning to slip?
- Do behavioural issues exist in the school setting?
- Is your child frequently getting detentions for forgetting homework or being late?
- Do school reports show a dip in academic attainment?
- Does your child struggle to contribute to classroom activities, for example, answering questions or speaking publicly?
- Does your child give up too easily?
- Would your child benefit from improved social skills?
- Does your child become anxious around examination periods?
- Does your child require increased focus and attention prior to key examinations, e.g. entrance examinations, Year 6 standardised attainment tests and GCSE exams?

Flexible, personalised programmes can commence at any point during the year.

The first session is essential for the success of the programme going forward. In this session, we evaluate current learning strengths and weaknesses in the individual student. In order to get a full picture of the student's learning priorities, we undertake the following activities to determine areas for improvement and the best conditions for success:

- reflections from the student on how they feel about their learning experience
- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection
- analysis of recent written reports which contain teacher comments and grades recording attainment, effort, attitude to learning, punctuality, etc. School reports can vary in format so it may be that not all this detail is available
- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child
- completion of a personalised learning contract whereby the child/student, parent/teacher and coach agree on the required conditions needed for the child/student to be successful during the programme.
