In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

When I'm not acting or tutoring I can be found in the kitchen or walking in the countryside.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor since 2008.

Currently tutoring students in: 8+, 10+ & 11+ preparation (all four subjects); GCSE Maths.

Previously: English - KS1, KS2, 7+ (Successful entry to Highgate), 11+ (Successful entry to Haberdashers' Askes Boys, Trinity, City of London School for Boys, Alleyn's, St Alban's), A Level (A at A Level English and Extended English). Maths - KS1, KS2, 7+, 11+, GCSE (grade improved from D to A*). University application assistance (Successful entry to Durham and Oxford). English as a foreign language.

During my gap year I spent some time as a special needs classroom assistant, working closely with a child suffering with Asperger's Syndrome. This involved facilitating the social and academic change between primary and secondary education on a one-to-one basis.

Also at this time I ran Welsh language games sessions for primary children in non-first-language schools to improve and encourage their use of the language outside of the classroom environment.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

I particularly enjoy tutoring Maths GCSE, 11+ and 13+.

Previous Students' Comments:

'Before I met Alex, as a dyslexic, I was academically unconfident and dreaded having tutors who had never really helped me before. Alex tutored me from Year 8 to 11 and she completely changed my attitude to studying, helped me develop my organisational skills and gave me a huge amount of confidence in my abilities. As I approached GCSEs she tutored me particularly in Maths where I was struggling with a D grade. Without her expert tuition I doubt I would have been able to achieve my A* in Maths.

I think Alex is an amazing tutor because she has an extraordinary talent for making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience to the extent I would genuinely look forward to our lessons. Alex was far more than a tutor to me, helping me through such formative teenage years. I consider her a friend.'

- Tally (Now studying for her A Levels)

'Alex is a truly outstanding and gifted tutor as well as a fantastic person. I have very much enjoyed being her student for over six months, and have not only learnt a lot due to her expertise and impressive knowledge but also grew to love English Literature because of the inspirational nature of her tutoring. Previously, I used to constantly struggle with my assignments since English is not my first language, however, after a few weeks of sessions with Alex my grades and confidence significantly improved. She has an ability to keep the lessons varied and interesting; always well prepared for lessons - she was kind enough to provide me with extremely useful books and personal notes. Her incredible dedication and hard working nature also deserves mentioning as she was willing to help me even in the evenings when I was panicking about coursework and the approaching exams. With Alex's assistance and firm confidence in my ability I have achieved a high A in my A-level English Literature and even a merit award in Extended English. I would enthusiastically recommend Alex to anyone who wants to succeed in their exams and learn heaps of interesting information.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of English with many years of study, research and training in some of the world's top universities. My qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in English Literature and the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in English, including Media Studies and Drama. My Initial Teacher Training covered all aspects of English and all abilities in the 11-18 age range. My interests, of benefit to many students especially at university level, include Critical Theory, Classical Literature, and African Literature. I have guided many students doing research and proof-read their dissertations. I have also taken the official training for one-to-one tutors rolled out by the government to complement classroom teaching. I also have experience as a GCSE English examiner for Edexcel and gained the status of Senior Examiner serving as Team Leader from the June 2013 exam series.

Teaching Experience:

My first teaching appointment came in 1988 in Cameroon where I taught English and African Literature, becoming an 'A' Level examiner for the Cameroon GCE examination board in 1990. I later took the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) leading to the PGCE, finishing my last year as Education Student of the Year in my university and receiving a national commendation for the quality of my work. I have since taught in different schools in Kent and Medway, preparing students for exams such as Functional Skills, IELTS, GCSE, 'A' Level, IB and AEA. I have also given one-to-one tuition to looked-after teenagers under a government scheme as well as taught in a secure unit for which, in addition to enhanced disclosure CRBs, I was vetted over a six month period. My first long-term (over 3 months) supply position involved teaching GCSE English, 'A' Level English Literature, and the IB. Most of my teaching has been in selective (grammar) schools. I have also given English lessons in my local community as part of an outreach programme organised for speakers of other languages by my church where I teach Bible Studies also.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to establish the needs of the students and carefully review all available assessment records. If the student is preparing for a special exam such as the GCSE, I would start by ensuring that the student is aware of the full requirements of the exam and establish a clear plan to cover these. Alongside any such programme, I believe strongly in incorporating the fundamentals of English grammar which are sometimes overlooked in formal teaching settings. I like to build a good rapport with the student so that they are comfortable revealing possible areas of weakness that we could turn into strengths.

Personal Description:
After graduating from Trinity College Oxford with a first class Masters in Engineering I reflected upon the opportunities education had afforded me, the horizons it broadened and the skills it had developed. It was such a valuable gift I decided to teach. I have also had a broad range of other career experience from healthcare to investment banking, this helps me to offer practical advice and guidance to A Level students considering their career.

Teaching Experience:

I've now taught in a variety of schools from an inner-city London school to more recently completing a period as Head of Physics in the Middle East. I now work as a Physics teacher at a top independent school is West London. I have tutored for over seven years, gaining increasing satisfaction from watching young peoples' mind develop and confidence grow.

I am an exam board examiner and moderator, which is a great insight into how to prepare pupils for examinations as well as address their wider educational needs. Education is a crucial part of any persons' life and as such I approach tutoring with both rigour and passion!

In addition to helping student achieve their best grades at GCSE, IGCSE and A Level, I have also been successful in tutoring students for common entrance. I have helped students secure places at Winchester, Westminster and Eton.

Tutoring Approach:

Building self confidence and fostering a love for the subject is my overall aim. To do this I endeavour to establish a close working relationship with each tutee based on trust and their confidence in me to facilitate their exam success as well as address their wider educational needs. Thought process, rather than content, lies at the heart of my ambition to develop self sufficient learners yet I appreciate than content and technique cannot be understated when preparing for exams.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

Chris has been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry since 1994 and as an ex-Head of Chemistry who has worked in both state schools and private schools, he has helped countless students achieve the high grades they often need for university entrance. Many of my ex-students have gone on to vet school, medical school and Ox-bridge.

Chris has also been teaching Key Stage 3 since 1994 and has a good understanding of the level of written work and mathmatical ability expected of the most able Year 7 students when they begin Secondary School. He has helped countless students to achieve their potential throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and earlier in his career he was employed as Head of Lower School Science at Kelly College Independent School in Tavistock, Devon.

Chris has a boy and a girl who have both been through the 11+ process and so is well aware of the stresses and benefits that all families are likely to experience, if they are to apply to a selective school.

Chris has an up to date fully enhanced CRB check and also public liability insurance.
You can also find him on the internet listed with various other agencies.

Grammar school education is really rewarding for able students and I hope to get the
chance to show you what the schools are looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

CHEMISTRY
I use boardworks PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.

Personal Description:
A creative Qualified Languages Teacher and Proofreader, with a variegated working experience in different contexts and multicultural environments.

More than 11 years of study and work experience as a languages teacher and multilingual translator/interpreter/proofreader (Italian, Spanish, French, English and Romanian).

As a teacher I aim to enable my students to enjoy a first-hand experience of what exactly speaking, thinking and reacting in a new language means. Adopting a different mindset enriches their perspectives on life and broadens their horizons.
With excellent results, I fully exploit the potential of authentic materials (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) and drama techniques, which I had the opportunity to deeply research at the Institute of Education and subsequently put into practice in the London schools for which I worked.

My lessons are always student-centred, interactive, stimulating and related to real life, cultural situations and/or to exam requirements (GCSE, A-levels, International Baccalaureate, IELTS, TEFL), according to students' needs.

I place high value on mutual respect, cooperation and active participation, the use of humour and imagination. Since I am very ambitious, determined and have high expectations, my students and I always work arduously and achieve our objectives.

Offering tuition in Italian, Spanish, English and Romanian at any level (beginners - intermediate - advanced).

Key achievements:
1- Gained a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) from a top tier university (Institute of Education, University of London);

2- Won the National Competition of Romanesque Languages - Italian language section (in 2003 and 2004 with a 10/10 result);

3- Conceived and ran an English language Workshop project for Cranfield University's students, where all had the possibility to teach and learn, revise grammar, discuss and share opinions.

R. Williams, A-level student's parent
Subject: Spanish (GCSE) Outcome: Our daughter received A* in both oral and written exams
An excellent and conscientious tutor, Cerasala has provided excellent support for our daughter in preparation for her Spanish IGCSE. She always comes prepared with topics for her lessons and uses varied and interesting materials to build on the syllabus. She really helped develop confidence in both spoken and written language. She is always on time, reliable and charming.

Ana, Lower Sixth student, The Harrodian School:

"I have known Ms Cerasela since September this year, when she became my private tutor for Italian language.
Ms Cerasela is an extraordinary young teacher. As her pupil I have seen many examples of her talent in linguistics and her broad interests not only in the Italian culture and civilisation but also in British, French and Spanish as well. She communicates her ideas clearly, in a smooth and efficient manner. She is reliable, dynamic and intelligent person with a good sense of humour. It is a pleasure to spend some time with her every week and I benefit a lot from her knowledge.
I will always hold her in the highest esteem and I highly recommend Ms Cerasela as a talented teacher and a great person. "

Ms Agatha, MFL Teacher Elthorn Park High School, London.

"Cerasela assisted me with my IB Italian class, therefore I got to know her very well.
I was not only impressed by her total commitment and dedication to teaching but also by her great linguistic ability and multi - talent in all areas of teaching. She immediately felt at ease with pupils of all ages and quickly developed a warm, positive and trusting relationship in which students felt valued and encouraged to work hard.
Cerasela also was well liked by all members in the Language Faculty because of her ability to work well in a team and for making valuable contribution to the department.
Cerasela's punctuality and attendance record was outstanding because of the fact that she is a very reliable and conscientious person who would never want to let anyone down.
Cerasela would be an asset to anyone who is employing her. I therefore recommend her to you without any reservations."

Ms Gergana, Head of Spanish at Elthorn Park High School, London.

"During her time at Elthorn, Cerasela has demonstrated that she has high expectations of pupils and has been an excellent role model for them.
Cerasela has been a real asset to the department. She shows a clear capacity to evaluate different teaching approaches and to reflect upon her own practice. She has worked very effectively as part of the Modern Foreign Languages team and built rapport with learners.
I cannot comment highly enough her ability to independently plan and research her materials and evaluate her teaching."

Patrizia, Director at CeSPI (Centro Studi Problemi Internazionali) - NGO
" [] she has completely succeeded in organising her own lessons delineating a programme with clear objectives, which has completely brought to completion, proving a clear confidence and the right flexibility and pro-activity in dealing with a totally variegate and stimulating group of students. At the end of the course she has received the maximum of appreciation from both students and teachers for her commitment and professionalism."

4 years of Spanish, French and Romanian teacher/private tutor in Italy and UK.

Tutoring Approach:

Aiming to encourage students to develop to their full potential and enrich their linguistic and cultural heritage through the use of cutting-edge language teaching techniques.

These techniques have proved to stimulate and engage students of all ages and language levels.

My lessons are always student-centred, interactive, stimulating and related to real life, cultural situations or to exam requirements, according to students' needs. I have prepared students for: GCSE (Edexcel and AQA boards), A-levels and International Baccalaureate.

"Absolutely brilliant for Italian tuition, saved my grammar! At first, I was as apprehensive as anyone would be when I thought about tuition over skype - but if anything, it`s more effective. Instead travelling to a tutor, getting tired, getting home and thinking `I`ll just relax with a bit of TV` and then never picking up a book - The lesson was on time and intense, and I wasn`t too tired afterwards to do other revision. Also, when learning grammar, I suddenly remember something I don`t understand - but Cerasela can send me the link to resources immediately rather than having to wait to print them off. Thank you so much Cerasela for everything!"
A-level student testimonial

This is an A-level student`s testimonial who has recently contacted me for face to face tuition. Since she did not live close to my house I suggested we had a trial lesson over Skype. She has been open minded enough to try it and, from her review, the outcome is quite obvious.

Although some students are initially biased towards online tuition, all those who have tried it once have found this money, energy and time-saving way of learning be as effective as face to face tuition, if not even better.

They have all very much appreciated:

- the extremely quick way of receiving resources and taking notes through instant message exchange used to clarify spelling
- the possibility to later retrieve the information
- the possibility to record the sessions and therefore be able to listen again for correct pronunciation and natural intonation
- the opportunity to have lessons at any time, in different places, whether at home or on holiday, without incurring extra travelling costs and waste energy.

I would therefore encourage students to give it a try and do not let themselves be conditioned by unfounded fears. After all, there is nothing to lose, but everything to gain.

I was privileged enough to be afforded a very good private education and originally decided to take on tutoring as an opportunity to share my knowledge with others and allow them to realise their full potential and all the other benefits of a good education.

Five main factors have contributed to my success so far namely,
- I have high expectations of myself and my students, I believe every student can achieve the best grades with the right help

- I instil confidence and a "can do" attitude in students, regularly reminding them that nothing is "hard" if you have been shown how to do it properly

- I listen to students, this keeps lessons interactive and ensures I have constant update on their thought process and current understanding

- I am relatively young so students feel comfortable engaging with me and enjoy learning from me

- I ensure continuous support for students, I make myself available for questions via phone or e-mail throughout the day to ensure the support does not end at the end of the lesson!

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Mathematics and Economics tutor for 4 years in this time my reliability and skill has enabled me to develop a good reputation which has allowed me to have a consistent base of 12 - 16 students on a weekly basis.

Career Highlights!

- Academic Year 2011 - 2012 I helped a student who was predicted a C grade at GCSE to achieve a coveted place at Eltham College after passing a difficult 16+ exam

- Academic year 2012 - 2013 I helped a student who scored a D grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 level after 8 months of tuition. He was the only student to score an A grade in his school since 2007.

- Academic Year 2013 - 2014 I helped a student who scored a C grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 Economics with an impressive 97% in Unit 1, 99% in Unit 2 and 100% in Unit 3. He had also had three previous tutors who he was dissatisfied with before coming to me.

Further Teaching Experience

At degree level I have taught Macro and Micro Economics to students attending Russell Group Universities, this year I helped an international student from Ukraine achieve over 70% in both Macro and Micro Economics.

I have taught A-Level Economics across Edexcel, AQA and OCR syllabuses with equal success. I have never had a student score below a B grade and have had several students score over 90% in modules.

I have taught Mathematics at A-Level, GCSE, 16+ and 11+ common entrance levels and covered AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE exam boards. I have helped students gain coveted places at top independent schools such as Eltham College and Bromley High. I have also helped students improve from as low as C grades at GCSE to A grades, however my most notable success this year came when I helped an AS Maths student who scored a D grade in January achieve a B grade in May with an impressive 84% in C1.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach embodies a long term approach to learning I teach students in a way which will allow them to be successful in higher study as well as their more short term exams. I also try to make students more confident in their abilities overall not just the material I teach.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation to success in academic study. I concentrate a lot of time and energy on instilling these basic principles in students.

I am also a strong believer in understanding over 'rope learning' I ensure that pupils understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, never encouraging them to simply regurgitate what they have seen previously.

I also encourage practical understanding of concepts frequently referencing real world examples and using objects to illustrate theory as I recognise that theory on its own given no relevance is harder to remember. Supplementary to this I also relate teaching material to potential job roles and tasks which I have knowledge of (mostly Banking or Business related) in order communicate usefulness to students and keep things interesting.

Finally I believe teaching successfully is ultimately about listening to your students I constantly encourage students to question things and express anything they don't understand or are not too sure of. If a student looks unsure or hesitant about something I will ask open questions or get them to explain concepts to me in order to fully grasp their understanding. This also helps build their confidence and ability to express themselves accurately.

Personal Description:
I am a first year Physicist at Imperial College London. My clientele include students studying KS3, GCSE and A Level.

Having recently finished secondary school, I have an extensive knowledge of the education system and what is expected of students with regards to content and examination technique etc.

I feel I can relate to young students as I am not much older and have and still am going through the stresses and strains of exams! I understand how daunting Maths can be, as it certainly was for me when I was younger. However, one-to-one tuition may just be the catalyst that helps students 'click', and suddenly they understand this topic or can do this question.

I am undoubtedly competent in Maths, as shown by my results, and hope to show my students that they can improve their grades.

With the run up to those all-important exams, I can help students gain those crucial marks. I believe that to excel in Maths it is imperative that students practice, something which I can assist in.

Teaching Experience:

Have tutored students from a number of year groups and a range of exam boards including Edexcel and AQA.

Tutoring Approach:

I am open to the student's preferred style of learning and revision. I welcome specific queries and offer most help with exam questions. I can also explain whole topics if it was not picked up by the student at school or need further assistance.
Early on, lesson content will be largely dictated by the student until I uncover particular areas of weakness. Nearer to the exam period, emphasis will be on exam technique and working through past papers.

I like to make a friendship between me and the student in order to have a comfortable and successful learning environment. I will not put too much pressure on students but will push them so they can reach their goals.
