Tutoring Approach:

I believe one to one private tuition requires a tutor who can adapt to the needs of the pupil.

I would wish to meet the pupil initially to establish how they may best be assisted and what the pupil's key areas of concern are.

In short, each mind, young or old, needs different approaches and I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs and requirements of every student.

My approach, in most cases would be to follow a curriculum, finding out where their difficulties lie within this curriculum and how it would be best to resolve them.

I tend to use past papers when it comes to exam based tuition as this is ultimately what they will be faced with come exam time! However, when I have a pupil for longer there is more scope for more imaginative teaching or simply assistance with difficult homework.

With each of my previous pupils I have needed and been able to assist them in a way that is individually appealing to them and I have never had a pupil who has not achieved their desired results.

About Me

I grew up in South Wales as part of a large musical family.

I started playing piano and studying singing at the age
of 8, where I first studied Piano with Joyce Powell and the very talented Rowena Oakey, and 's Newport. I am also a skilled marching band percussionist,
having played all the instruments in this family.

From Head Chorister at St. John's Church, Maindee, and Bandmaster of the Borough of Newport Pipes & Drums, I conducted the Massed Male Choirs at the National Eisteddfod in Newport in 1987 at the age of only 21.

I am a former trombonist of the Band of the 3 BattalionRoyal Regiment of Wales, and former conductor of other male choirs including Newport (Gwent) and Snowdown (Kent).

I also studied singing at many RSCM courses. I have performed in a variety of venues including Bath Abbey, the Royal Albert Hall, Westminster Cathedral, Cardiff Castle, Dover Castle, Plymouth Hoe, the NEC and Wembley.

I really enjoy performing, conducting and teaching - all three skills I use to the pupil's advantage.

In 2001, I formed what is now the very successful Wessex Male Choir, whom have since won many competitions on the International stage, and which is still growing in size (now 60 choristers strong!), musical ability and popularity. See our website

In 2005, TV & Radio Presenter and singing star Aled Jones, became the choir's patron.

I have arranged lots of music for Male Choirs and some solely for Wessex.
I feel humble that my passion for choral music has enabled me to be entrusted not only with continuing the fine tradition of Male choirs, but preserving and developing it for generations to come.About Me

I look forward to hearing from you.

Rob.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience started back in 2008 when I was giving private lessons in English, Russian language and Russian Literature to school children (middle school) and adults. References (from Moscow&London clients) may be provided if requested.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate (2012) of the University of Bristol where I studied Biology and obtained a high 2.1. In addition to my degree, I have studied a wide range of subjects during my time in education, within the humanities and the sciences. The inspirational teaching that I have received is one the mains reasons for my achievement of high grades, as well as enthusiasm for my subjects. I believe I can share this enthusiasm and my knowledge and offer your child the help they require.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at school I was part of a reading scheme where a group of 10 students visited a nearby primary school. We read to individuals on a 1 on 1 basis and helped them to develop their own reading skills. I have been recently accepted onto the TeachFirst scheme, a two-year teaching placement, which will commence in 2013. To gain the experience I will need for this and the present tutoring I am doing, I have spent a lot of time in my old secondary school shadowing teachers and siting in on classes. I have also been coaching hockey at my local club since I was 16, which has allowed me to develop my communication skills.

Tutoring Approach:

In my opinion, a great tutor is not only one that can engage and animate their pupils, but can also adapt their teaching style to meet the needs of the individual. I hope that not only will I give your child the support they require, but he/she will also enjoy the teaching process.

Personal Description:
In the ten years I've studied bass I've gained a B-Tec National Diploma in music and music tech from Tauntons College and a Higher Diploma in music performance from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford where I am also studying for a Degree in music performance. This education fuels my passion for my instrument, and with such a huge variety of influences to choose from I couldn't see myself doing anything else.

Teaching Experience:

As a new tutor i have limited teaching experience however; during the course of my studies for my degree i have on many occasions had the opportunity to take on the role of the musical director of a performance. As a musical director i have had to think of different ways of explaining a task to my peers and have gained relevant teaching experience in the process.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found the best way to tech someone a new subject is to try and relate the subject to something the student has an understanding of or an interest in.

Personal Description:
I see myself as a passionate musician, always looking to expand my skills and knowledge and share them with other musicians both live, in studio and through lessons.
As you will note, I finished my BMus (Hons) back in 2012, specialized in electric guitar and I have also acquired three years of Music Production/Technology at Linköping University, Sweden. I hold a CRB check as well as a Child Protection and Health and Safety Certificate.

As a versatile individual, I have been taking part in different professional situations where I have applied my skills as a musician, live, in studio and through private teaching. These experiences have solidified my confidence and have given me the opportunity to express myself musically as well as instructing my students to pursue their musical journeys.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching privately students of ages 8 - 45, for the last 20 months. For my lessons I have created my own material combined with information gathered from other sources (books, dvd's, masterclasses) and I also have used different guitar syllabuses in some cases.

Tutoring Approach:

My goal as a teacher is to share my appreciation for music with students and fellow musicians, by teaching a range of topics including Techniques, Sight Reading, Ensemble Performance, Style Studies, Composition and Music Production. Besides introducing new concepts to the students, I am positive about creating a fun and relaxed environment but challenging at the same time.
I usually choose songs that from my point of view are suitable for the students and combine that with other topics like the ones mentioned above. I find it very important to create fun and captivating lessons with the emphasis on the student's growth in the most efficient way. For every lesson taught, I keep track of the student's progress making sure that the information is learned and applied in context before moving on to new material.

Personal Description:
Deborah is a trained working actress with a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree in Drama & Theatre Studies. Also trained by Amanda Redman at her Artists Theatre School at the famous Ealing Film Studios, Deborah attended masterclasses by industry professionals including Ray Winstone, Beth Cordingly, Julianne White, Sylvia Sims etc. Deborah is also trained in singing, voice, accents and characterisation and movement.

Acting since the age of 9, Deborah has been employed across the acting spectrum from Film, TV, Radio and Theatre. She has appeared alongside Placido Domingo at The Royal Opera House, in an opera directed by veteran movie director Franco Zeffirelli, featured in CBBC's award-winning Horrible Histories and is the voice over presenter/narrator for Discovery Channel's 'I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant!'

Deborah is signed to the very prestigious Noel Gay agency, who also represent Stephen Fry, Sir David Frost, Danny Baker, Steve Punt, Jeremy Vine, Krishnan Guru-Murphy and Horrible Histories Laurence Rickard.

For more information regarding Deborah's performance credits, please view her website or IMDB.com.

Teaching Experience:

Deborah has taught a multitude of classes and taken many workshops over the years, including at primary and secondary schools, and also spent a year in Thailand teaching English and Spanish to children at a private secondary school and took private tuition for university students and adults, as well as the Thai Military.

Deborah has worked for Perform (similar to Stagecoach) and The Cat's Grin Theatre Company, and coaches and provides tuition to adults and kids alike. A whole host of specific, targeted tuition is available, be they preparing audition pieces, running through scripts for shows, dissecting Shakespeare to find meaning and understanding or simply development techniques for voice, movement, delivery, confidence and so on. She has also prepared Best Men for their wedding speeches as well as Business Managers for important presenting events and assisted in the development of their delivery and re-work presentations for maximum impact.

Deborah has also worked extensively in the corporate environment in the City (Canary Wharf, Cannon Street et al), in the main working as an HR Recruitment Manager for banking and finance industries (HSBC, Lloyds etc), and so utilises these experiences - client meetings, board-level presentations, business development/sales and interviewing, to assist the more commercial, business-minded student to achieve their goals - be it brushing up on their interview technique and how to sell oneself or making speeches at VIP business events.

Deborah is also a mum to a 3.5 year old boy, who conveys no shyness whatsoever!

Tutoring Approach:

Deborah is warm, approachable and at ease, and whilst maintains a professional outlook, has a strategy that is fun and enjoyable, working with the personality and character of each student. Deborah adapts to the needs and requirements of the pupil and often pin points and weeds out bad habits or hidden talents, gets the student to think about nuances and anomalies they may not have been aware of about themselves to bring out the best potential for the task at hand. She has a knack of finding other skills and abilities in her students that offers more light and marketability to their approach to drama, acting, presenting and so on.

Deborah also leads group classes should you seek a more workshop feel. Fees can be negotiated depending on size of group, age and objective.

Personal Description:
Having successfully completed a PhD in History in 2011 following a BA in History (2005) and MA in Medieval History (2006), I have recently authored a book on Cultural Trends in Medieval Poetry, set to be published by E.J. Brill in 2016. I have tutored English for many years, specialising in language analysis and literary interpretation. My work has involved assisting with Controlled Assessments, prose and poetry analysis and exam preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students preparing for SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels, and have taught all major texts at GCSE and A-Level including poetry anthologies. I have also taught at Royal Holloway, University of London, where I recently completed a post-doctorate tenure in Politics and International Relations (2012-2015). I am currently an Honorary Research Associate at the University. I have further tutored, most recently, child genius Jasamrit Rahala, Slough.

Tutoring Approach:

I have learnt that what many students often find difficult is language analysis in their prose and poetry texts. It is also what usually deprives them of the higher marks. My tutoring is tailored to ensure that students gain a thorough understanding of texts, and are able to effectively interpret and comment on them. I prepare students for outstanding pieces of controlled assessment work and also help with general English work and exam practice.

Personal Description:
I obtained my degree in physics and doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Nottingham. I then spent ten years working as a physicist in various universities in Italy, New Zealand and the UK. My specialty was low temperature physics. I am fascinated by science and try to pass on my enthusiasm.

In my spare time I enjoy white-water kayaking.

Teaching Experience:

One of my responsibilities as a postdoctoral researcher was to mentor physics students. I am used to explaining difficult concepts and techniques in a clear, simple and concise way. I have been working as a maths and physics tutor since January 2016. I currently teach students from 13 to adult, up to advanced higher.

I have recently become involved in school outreach, doing talks on the Big bang.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage the student to think for himself/herself rather than spoon-feeding the material. I ensure that the student understands the fundamental concepts behind each topic, and does not simple regurgitate methods by rote. I aim to instill a fundamental understanding of the subject, but as exams approach I go through past papers and hone exam technique.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and energetic teacher with five years of experience teaching children. I recently graduated from SOAS with BA Southeast Asian Studies. I completed a CELTA when I was 18 years old and I have continued to teach throughout university. I enjoy learning languages myself and I am competent in Burmese and Indonesian. Having spent time in various foreign countries, I understand the joys and challenges of learning a language first hand.

Teaching Experience:

Most of my teaching experience is with young and very young learners, from as young as three years old up to 17 year olds. I have taught in Slovakia, Indonesia and London. Throughout university I continued to teach at St. Giles Juniors London family program every summer, as well as tutoring through an EFL school for Japanese families in London.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching involves many fun activities, games and songs to make lessons enjoyable and memorable. Often my students don't even notice that they are learning! My lessons are always student-focused, and I can happily adapt the lesson in order to focus on the student´s needs.

Personal Description:
Hello! If you're looking for intensive revision before an important exam, or long-term assistance throughout the academic year, then look no further. I graduated with first class honours in 2014 having studied Business Economics for 3 years at Nottingham Trent University. Since leaving University I have pursued a career in financial services, which has given me the perfect opportunity to apply many of the skills I developed throughout education to real-world situations. I have had a keen interest in maths and statistics since a young age, demonstrating my ability by achieving an A at GCSE in Maths and an A in Statistics. This was a contributing factor towards my study of economics given how the two subjects interlink, achieving a B at Economics at A level. All of these skills were brought together at University, with my degree heavily reliant on the use of statistics as well as algebra and other important maths concepts. I am keen to help you/your child achieve their maths goals, and I hope that I can use my use of maths in my every day work to show how important maths and economics skills are both academically and for the real world.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my time at school, sixth form and university I was always keen to teach peers both as part of large groups in class and on an individual basis, something I enjoyed because it helped me to develop my own skills and also because of the reward of seeing someone else do well as a result of my help. This has included me teaching a fellow GCSE student at the time of my own studying, as well as more recently helping a colleague with her entrance exams for her PGCE teaching exams. I also completed a week of work experience at my local primary school, which was an opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills in the best environment.

Tutoring Approach:

Having personally varied my own learning techniques throughout education dependent on the subject and the learning environment, I understand that every individual learns in a different way; I will use the early stages of tutoring to gauge the needs and learning styles of the tutee, and alter my teaching to these needs. Whilst I am keen believer that each individual has their own learning style, I also believe it is important that everyone tries new styles to work out which is most effective for them. Personally I like the use of extensive notes when first learning to understand a concept or theory, and then more concise notes that can I can use to prompt myself later on. Finally, I think that encouraging someone to regularly sit previous exam papers can develop the skills in a more applied environment whilst also helping a student to be more relaxed when it comes to the real exam situation.

Personal Description:
I am 25 years old and have worked and travelled extensively in both France and Japan for lengthy periods of time. I am a university graduate of foreign languages, having studied French and Japanese at Hull University. Having just returned from two years working in Japan and the Philippines as a Scuba Diving Instructor, I am looking to move back to teaching languages whilst I am at home in the UK again with my family. I am a very easy going, bubbly and personable individual who is very enthusiastic about languages, and firmly enjoys passing on language skills to other people. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to expand your language skills, I am happy to undertake teaching at all levels to accommodate your needs. If you are a parent whose child is looking to improve their language skills at either GCSE or A Level grade, then I am confident I can help them to achieve that, having done so many times in the past. I have an extensive knowledge of GCSE and A Level grade boundaries and requirements, and can assist your child to earn the grade that they desire to achieve.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language in the Philippines at an international primary school, and I have worked as an assistant French teacher for one year at a Yorkshire secondary school, teaching students aged 11-18, including GCSE and A level candidates. During my time as an assistant French teacher, I also offered after school French and Japanese tutoring to interested pupils who wanted to join our little languages club. Finally, I have experience in teaching English as a foreign language to children living in the UK, in addition to teaching English to Japanese people whilst I was living in Japan.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very varied approach to tutoring. Depending on the student's capabilities, personality and confidence, I am very flexible and adapt lessons and activities to suit the individuals learning style. Usually within the first lesson I am able to gauge the capacity for learning and the preferred way of soaking up the information.

My favourite tutoring style with languages is to use the language during the lesson as much as possible as this makes the student much more used to hearing the language and thus improves fluency much quicker. Furthermore I prefer to build grammar up along with vocabulary slowly, or quickly, depending on the student's learning preferences, like building blocks, while enforcing language use and practice as much as possible. Repetition is key, which I incorporate into lesson plans time after time, without boring the student or exhausting the language.

It entirely depends upon what the student also wants to get out of my lessons. If it is for enjoyment, then my teaching style will vary greatly differently to a school pupil whose aim is to improve their GCSE or A Level grade. Once I know the goals and aims of the student, my tutoring approach will be set in stone to ensure that those goals and aims are achieved, all while having as much fun as possible. After all, languages are a form of art and should be enjoyed as well!
