Personal Description:
PhD Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering

BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering (First class honours)

Teaching Experience:

I have a formal teaching experience and worked as a Lecturer Mechanical Engineering. I have been giving the tutorial lectures at Loughborough University to engineering undergraduates during my PhD. I have also tutored (and currently tutoring) physics and mathematics to a number of GCSE and A-levels students.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which students feel more confident to raise questions. I like to listen to my students being at their level to address and identify the basic difficulties that they face in understanding the subjects. I try to involve the students in problem solving and present the subjects in an interesting manner with the help of useful hints that are often required and proved to be helpful to provoke the original thought in order to improve their analytical skills. I find myself committed and patient and I believe that such teaching skills make me ideal for tutoring. I frequently highlight the practical implications of the subjects where possible so that the students could relate the subjects to their future careers. I am be willing to concentrate on the specific areas that the student requests. The focus of my approach is to prepare the students for the exams by developing the analytical thinking in order to solve the problems. The deeper understanding of the mathematical sciences could only be achieved through the intensive practice.

Personal Description:
I am a retired R&D Scientist, formerly with H.M. Government, where I was involved in a number of projects in the field of electronics and communications.
I am married to a teacher (who is qualified to B.A and PGSE, and is also a private tutor) and now successfully tutor maths and physics to GCSE and A-Level from home.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London where I obtained B.Sc (first class) and Ph.D. After getting my Ph.D. I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where, in addition to my research, I had a number of teaching duties, including lecturing to an M.Sc. course on digital processing.

I have been tutoring GCSE and A-level since 2006 and have achieved notable successes including A and A* grades.
I will be pleased to pass on names of referees to potential students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best results are obtained by kind, confidence-building one-to-one tuition so that lessons and homework can be tailored to the student's individual needs and speed.
I like to keep the lessons reasonably informal so that the student does not feel under undue pressure, but has time to acquire a deeper understanding of the subject. I reinforce the student's knowledge by working through examples, both from textbooks and from past papers.
I work very much as part of a team with my wife Sue, who tutors the younger students, while I concentrate on the GCSE and A level students. So while this listing is in my name, she will probably take over those in school year 4 to year 7. We do not tutor students below year 4.
Sorry, but we do not travel to students because we find it far more efficient for students to visit us at home, where we have all our reference material and teaching resources to hand.

Personal Description:
I have a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, followed by an MA in Classics from King's College London, for which I received a Distinction. I started tutoring Classics part-time in September 2013 for Kaleido Tutors (can supply reference), then expanded to freelance work in Spring 2014, when I began tutoring English Language and Literature. Despite my academic credentials in Classics, my love and learning of English literature has remained strong since A-level (Grade A), and I am currently researching for a PhD which will cover both Classical and English literature (likely starting at King's College London, Jan 2015). My academic aspirations do not hamper my commitment to tutoring: not only do I thoroughly enjoy teaching, but it helps to ground and shape my interest in the subjects of Classics and English.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Greek for a year (starting immediately after finishing my MA in Classics in Sept 2013), and English Language & Literature since Spring 2014:
- All tutees (freelance/Kaleido Tutors) experienced at least a two grade increase, with most achieving >90% in end of year exams (Summer 2014).
- One Latin tutee went from near-bottom to top of his class to top (97% end of year result).

Tutoring Approach:

The great advantage of one-to-one tutoring over classroom teaching is that I can pay full attention to the uniqueness of the tutee. Everyone is different, and I am able to match my skills to the tutee's needs, iron out any particular foibles, and thus increase the tutee's confidence in the subject. Tuition in both English and Classical subjects centres around the same skill set: attention to detail, effective lesson structure, allowing the tutee the freedom to find the correct answer, as opposed to just lecturing.

My favourite aspect of Classical and English literature is the unparalleled connection between the nuts and bolts of the languages and the grand themes they explore. I believe this relationship is key to the effective tuition of language and literature: I like to find a literary theme my tutee is interested in and tie it to the intricacies of the language - grammar does not have to be learnt in a bubble.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxford graduate and current law student who is passionate about helping students of all ages master their studies and gain the confidence to succeed.

My background is a bit untraditional (I've done two BAs- one in the US and one in the UK), but between my two undergraduate degrees, I have been lucky enough to get the depth and focus of a British BA as well as the flexibility of an American BA. As a result of my background, I have a strong understanding of many subjects and the ability to adapt my thinking and teaching to different disciplines from the creative to the analytical.

I have a 2.i from my BA in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford, a First from my BA in Humanities with Pre-Med courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Calculus) at Providence College in the United States, and an IB Diploma. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Law last year and am currently in my final year of legal studies at BPP University.

In my spare time, I like to work on crossword puzzles (I even competed in a tournament last year) and a few other somewhat nerdy indulgences like board games, video games and, of course, Star Wars. I always make time for learning something new where I can, and, having recently worked out the ukulele, I am currently working (slowly) on picking up Japanese.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring different ages of students in various disciplines, from helping undergraduates improve their essay-writing skills and preparing Oxbridge applicants for interview to assisting primary-school and SEN students with reading, writing and maths. I love helping students build confidence and master topics they once thought too challenging.

One of my favourite subjects to tutor is English and writing. During my first BA, I worked as a writing tutor at my university's tutoring centre, where I helped students analyse literature, brainstorm essay topics, construct thesis statements and outlines, and revise essay drafts for clarity and grammar. Over the past year, I've helped not only GCSE and A-level students but also primary-school SEN students improve their writing skills and confidence.

I am also very excited to tutor in Philosophy. Last year, I had the great pleasure of preparing one of my tutees for a Philosophy interview at Cambridge by discussing various topics and texts and working on essays together each week. We both enjoyed our sessions together greatly, and I was absolutely delighted when she was offered a place.

Finally, I have also worked as a teaching and lab assistant for my university's chemistry department and so am used to adapting my instruction for students with different aptitudes, interests and skillets. As a chemistry lab assistant, I worked alongside a lecturer to help university chemistry students in group hands-on chemistry lab lectures improve their lab techniques and see how each experiment fit in with the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the best way to learn something challenging is to let students work through the problem at their own pace until they can see the solution for themselves and build the skills they'll need to succeed in the future on their own, so it's very important for me when I tutor to make sure that the student is in the driver's seat. I like to let the tutee's needs guide each session, so I begin each tutorial by asking the student what he or she wants to focus on and what he or she is struggling with. Whether it's reading through an essay or working through a maths problem, I like to help students break down a complicated problem and let them guide me through their thought processes, correcting and instructing where necessary and encouraging the student during their successes. Of course, there will always be complicated topics that require a more didactic style of tutoring, but I think the Socratic method is much more effective not only for ensuring students truly understand the material, but also for empowering them and giving them confidence in their work.

I believe an important goal for a tutor should be to help her tutee gain confidence, as many students only seek tutoring after having struggled to grasp a concept fully on their own and thus often tend to underestimate their ability in the subject. This is especially true for SEN students, who have often been misunderstood by their teachers and peers. A tutor shouldn't be just an instructor- she should be a coach and cheerleader, too! I honestly believe there is nothing more rewarding than watching my tutees grow in knowledge and confidence over the course of our sessions together.

I also believe that, where possible, it's important to add a dash of something interesting to tutorials, especially with younger students. I've found that when a tutee is losing interest or struggling to engage with the material (often because they're having trouble understanding it), finding new ways to approach the problem, either through games, real-life application or creative thought experiments, can help a student get reacquainted with a subject they might have dismissed as uninteresting.

Personal Description:
Having successfully completed a PhD in History in 2011 following a BA in History (2005) and MA in Medieval History (2006), I have recently authored a book on Cultural Trends in Medieval Poetry, set to be published by E.J. Brill in 2016. I have tutored English for many years, specialising in language analysis and literary interpretation. My work has involved assisting with Controlled Assessments, prose and poetry analysis and exam preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students preparing for SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels, and have taught all major texts at GCSE and A-Level including poetry anthologies. I have also taught at Royal Holloway, University of London, where I recently completed a post-doctorate tenure in Politics and International Relations (2012-2015). I am currently an Honorary Research Associate at the University. I have further tutored, most recently, child genius Jasamrit Rahala, Slough.

Tutoring Approach:

I have learnt that what many students often find difficult is language analysis in their prose and poetry texts. It is also what usually deprives them of the higher marks. My tutoring is tailored to ensure that students gain a thorough understanding of texts, and are able to effectively interpret and comment on them. I prepare students for outstanding pieces of controlled assessment work and also help with general English work and exam practice.

Personal Description:
I am a professional, conservatoire trained, theatre director, drama and LAMDA teacher based in London. My greatest strengths are my creativity on stage, ability to manage and communicate with people and to generally be an effective leader of different age groups, from Age 5 to Age 65.

My theatre voyage stydying MFA Theatre Directing at East 15 Acting School provided Jacques Lecoq puppet, clown and physical training and core modules examining Shakespeare, musical theatre, opera, comedy, contemporary British writing and actor training which has informed my practice as a teacher and director.

A huge part of my study was on theatre of the East, where I visited Bali, Indonesia for one term to study at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI Denpasar). Here I had intensive training on forms such as Topeng Masked Dance, Legong Dance, Wayang Kulit and an introduction to Balinese Hinduism and performance cultures along with the opportunity to collaborate with actors, directors and filmmakers, and world-famous industry professionals.

I believe my administrative experience, my sales and marketing capabilities, together with my teaching and theatre qualifications with a healthy dose of imagination and a playful nature have all added to my effectiveness as an director, accomplished administrator, communicator and good all rounder.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked consistently in London theatres and in schools over the last 7 years and most recently have been working as the Artistic Director of Fusion Theatre Company, a company I founded, developing shows, workshops, education packs and training programs for pupils and teachers linking with National Curriculum Topics in order to utilise drama as a tool for learning. Most recently I have set up a LAMDA training section of the company, offering group sessions, duologue and monologue sessions for primary and secondary school.

Although I do the majority of my work within Theatre in Education and drama training, I also am currently the Associate Director of Maverick Theatre, whos mandate is to create reimaginations of classic literature in unexpected places.

Prior to setting up my own company, I was an assistant director, teaching assistant and technical operator at Trent College, for a number of shows, abridging and cutting scripts, marketing the school's productions, organising the shared diary and assisting with general curriculum work, organising year 9 classes and office administration. During that time I also worked as a LAMDA teacher with 14 students of my own, all of whom successfully achieved Grades 2 and 3 at the end of the summer term. During my second year I was given the opportunity to direct my own productions, as well as a substantial pay increase. I directed a sixth form production of "Two" by Jim Cartwright, followed by The Sixth Form Review [a comedy sketch show], a production of "Shakers" by John Godber, and a production of "Equus" by Peter Shaffer, and finally an outdoor theatre production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with a year 7 group. Two years of hands-on experience in education taught me the fundamental rules of theatre, production, discipline and how to motivate others to give their best performance.

Theatre plays a vital role in education to nurture and create opportunities for young people, using the arts as a vehicle to understand the world they live in and the people they are as well as develop crucial life skills. I believe that the most effective way to learn is through theatre and performance and because of this I have an incredible love for youth theatre and working with children and find it extremely rewarding.

Since my study, I have been doing workshops and acting courses with students from University upwards. Whether it be a specific genre of theatre or audition pieces.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is completely guided by the person I am working with. My natural instincts as a teacher are to get the student to relate to the material as well as they can by giving them something to compare it with in their own life. As a student of LAMDA since age five and from my extensive experience as a tutor throughout my career I discovered that by adopting a personal approach to teaching and mentoring, identifying the individual strengths of each student, and harnessing and working with those strengths, I was able to yield some incredible results not just within primary and secondary school but utilising this practice for all ages.

Personal Description:
I am a Medical Sciences graduate from Bangor University and I'm currently studying to become a Physicians Associate. I have a passion for science which I am keen to share,

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of online tutoring and one-to-one sessions for those studying my degree who had come from different backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to use revision and learning strategies which helped me during my studies. This includes mnemonics and learning topics as stories, this works particularly well in Biology.
