Personal Description:
I am a very experienced teacher, head of faculty, head of sixth form, examiner and writer. I have recently worked for one of the major examination boards on the new specifications for both G.C.S. E and A2 Level.

During my career as a teacher I have taught philosophy and religious studies to Advanced level and English, history, religious studies, geography and citizenship to G.C.S.E. I also specialise in developing study skills and examination techniques in a range of subjects. I have prepared VI form students for university and UCAS application, including Oxbridge, and acted as a mentor to new entrants to the teaching profession.

I am a freelance writer specialising in education, social, religious and moral issues and I also create e-learning resources for an international educational e-learning-platform provider.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience at both G.C.S.E. and Advanced level has been extensive. I am an examiner for two major exam boards and have diverse experience of creating original teaching resources tailored to the needs of pupils.

I have spent most of my career teaching across the ability and age range in 11-18 comprehensive schools although I have also taught in the independent sector.

I am also a part-time on-line tutor for one of the Oxford colleges.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the key to success for most pupils is to develop their skills and self-confidence to enhance their ability to successfully complete their examination by developing study skills and examination techniques.

My first session with a tutee and their parents is to establish their needs and goals. Together we draw up a plan of the work which we will pursue. This plan will be reviewed regularly and a progress report compiled.

Each of the subsequent sessions comprises of:
review of any homework set
review of any problems which have occurred that week
lesson on a topic previously decided upon
My primary aim is to help my tutees overcome any difficulties which they are having with their work and to help them to achieve their goals both in the short-term and the long term. Secondly, I aim to give my tutees confidence in their own abilities and to help them develop their skills necessary to succeed in their examinations.
Relevant homework is set as a means of reinforcing the development of skills since assessment and feedback procedures largely rely on this.

While I have never tutored for money, I have an extensive tutoring experience. I volunteered to teach illiterate students English as a part of a volunteering program from my high school in India and have been a part of that program for the past two years. I also used to tutor my two siblings in History, Geography and English.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that children learn best in a stress free environment. If they feel it is fun and challenging, they will be more willing to learn than if they feel it to be an obligation. English is an easy subject and children enjoy learning it, once they realize the joys that English has to offer. History can be challenging due to the vast amounts one has to learn by heart but steady habit of writing down answers to questions helps more than reading the material ten times. Other than that, History is a vastly interesting subject which helps us understand the workings of the present society and of course, knowledge about our ancestors. Geography is relatively straightforward subject. A lot of practice and a dedicated perusal of it should be enough to get good scores. While it can be relatively dry, it can be made interesting with pictures and videos.I focus on exam technique, past papers as well as text work (English Lit.)

I am both an experienced teacher and performer, having performed at various festivals throughout the country. I am comfortable playing in a variety of musical styles and I am happy to tailor lessons to the interests of each individual pupil.

Teaching Experience:

During the past five years I have taught a range of age groups from young school pupils to adults in both one to one lessons and group settings. I have also had a great deal of experience teaching beginners, most recently the Bellingham Middle School Ceilidh Band. During my later years of school I assisted with a young children's string orchestra and also an intermediate traditional music group. As part of my degree I have studied different techniques of teaching traditional music within the community.

Tutoring Approach:

The initial lesson provides an opportunity for both myself and the pupil to discuss any past musical experiences and also understand what they wish to gain from future lessons. I plan my lessons around the interests of the pupil which in return allows them to get the most out of their lessons. Whilst I strongly believe that there are benefits to reading notation, I also teach by ear and am happy to focus on this if a pupil so wishes. I encourage my pupils to bring along any music they wish to learn in addition to their set pieces.

I offer hour long lessons, suggesting a starting point of half an hour for beginners. Groups lessons are possible.

Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University last June, followed by a MA in medieval and early-modern history , and then a MA in Translation at Queen's University Belfast, I am currently undertaking a PhD in Translation, also at QUB.

Teaching Experience:

During the last two years of secondary school I gave frequent tuition sessions in French and German to younger students. At Oxford I gained two years' experience with Jacari, a charity that teaches English to local children of a different mother tongue. I have also given additional tuition to students of GCSE history in an Oxford school.

I spent my year abroad teaching English to pupils aged 10 to 19 at a German grammar school, and have since instructed a number of tutees of ages 8 to 65 in English Language, French, German and Italian.

Tutoring Approach:

This variety of experience has taught me the importance of varying my teaching approach according to the needs and interests of the pupil. Obviously I keep a keen eye on the intended curriculum or goals at all times, but I am used and open to changing from more formal to more informal (i.e. games-based) tutoring methods as appropriate.

I am a 23 year-old postgraduate student in Durham University, with a masters in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

In 2010-2012 I was the initiator of a volunteer project called 'Fairy tales in Pictures'. The project involved working, communicating and interacting with children with learning difficulties, playing games with them and teaching them to tackle different tasks. This was an opportunity to develop my communication and listening skills regarding various kinds of people, becoming extremely aware of the difficulties children can have with learning and understanding new things, and how these difficulties can be tackled.
I have helped my 11-year-old sister with her maths and English language-related lessons over the years. This has helped me understand children better and sense when they are in need for more training and explanation in particular areas. I have also helped friends' children with their problems, offering help, guidance and advice.

Tutoring Approach:

The key method to learning mathematics is by solving problems and dealing with examples. My approach is to give a clear explanation on the theory and then focus on different types of examples to help children understand things through practice. After several examples, I encourage children to attempt problems themselves at first, then ask questions and give small hints, guiding the child to obtain the correct answer as independently as possible. I give homework for children to practice their newly acquired knowledge, and I check if they've done the homework correctly on the next lesson.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am 23 years old. I am currently undertaking my clinical training as a third year medical student via the Graduate Entry Programme at Imperial College London. Prior to this I read Natural Sciences at University of Cambridge with an interest in a range of biological topics including biology of cells, physiology, pathology and history & ethics of medicine.

I have always been a hardworking and conscientious student but more importantly I have made an effort to adapt and improve my approach to learning to meet the increasing demands that school and university brings. I would love to use my experiences to help other students work towards and achieve their goals, and pass on the studying skills I have found so helpful.

During my time at Cambridge I found the small-group-based supervisions to be the best way to test my own understanding of a topic and a great opportunity to seek answers to questions that had not been raised during class. This is why I believe tutoring is one of the most effective ways for a student to enhance their own education. Furthermore having been a supervisee myself I understand the qualities that are sought in a tutor. The supervisors I most admired were those that were approachable, patient and knowledgeable; qualities I strive to embody in my own tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have many years of experience providing guidance, support and advice to students over a wide age range both in academic and extra-curricular settings.

During sixth form I was a senior student for the mathematics department tutoring students in year 7-9 at lunchtimes, in particular guiding them through assignments they had been unable to complete in class and taking the time to revisit topics they had found more challenging. I was also elected to be a prefect responsible for overseeing the welfare of a year 9 form throughout the academic year.

Whilst at Cambridge I took part in an e-monitoring scheme where I provided advice and guidance to a sixth form student applying to university from an access-targeted school. I also became a 'college parent' to three students in the year below whom I provided support to in their studies and general advice about university life.

More recently at Imperial I have volunteered with the 'Teddy Bear Hospital Scheme' helping to run interactive and fun workshops at local primary schools to educate children about the importance of health and challenge their fear of doctors. I also continue to help my five younger siblings with their homework and exam preparation, feeling a great sense of pride as I have watched each of them progress from primary to secondary school.

I am very excited to tutor students in the areas of mathematics and science, as well as help with university applications and entrance exams (UKCAT average = 790).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the best approach to tutoring is to work in partnership with the tutee in an environment that we both feel comfortable, ensuring an interactive and engaging session.

The teaching methods used will be adapted to every tutee, catering to the individual differences in learning approaches and pace. These could range from working through practice questions to test a tutee's knowledge, using diagrams to explain difficult concepts, to having an open and two-way discussion about a topic of interest. I would explore these specifics prior to and during the first session so that I could appreciate the needs of the tutee. In later sessions we can review the approach used and make changes if both the tutee and I feel this would be beneficial.

Whether a tutee is looking to understand the basics of topic they are struggling with or wanting to push themselves to excel in areas they are interested in I believe everyone can reach their potential and that is what I set out to do through my tutoring.

I have a BA in 'Textile Design for Fashion' from Manchester School of Art, for my final project I both designed and made four fashion collections. After leaving university I did styling and visual merchandising for Urban Outfitters. I undertook a three month internship with Vivienne Westwood where I learned to trace and develop patterns, as well as work on the show at Paris Fashion Week. I then went on to start my own freelance business in bridal wear design, creating a collection for a niche bridal shop called 'The Case of the Curious Bride'.

I am able to create fashion designs and translate them three dimensionally onto the stand, I can create illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, can re-touch photographs in Adobe Photoshop, as well as create publications in Adobe InDesign, and edit film using iMovie.

Personal Description:
Friendly and enthusiastic tutor and facilitator teaching Drama at all levels (GCSE, A Level, Degree, Auditioning for drama schools, coaching for professionals). Teaching English and Media Studies to GCSE and Film at all levels.

I am a very experienced tutor (and professional practitioner). I really enjoy working with individuals and getting them inspired about their subjects, because what examiner's really want is enthusiastic, intelligent thinkers who have their own opinion.

I have written, directed and produced many plays and films and worked extensively teaching and directing professional actors. I have had work in the Brighton and Lewes Festivals and I founded a number of theatre companies. I currently run a nationally recognised drama company that produces plays and films about social injustice and human rights issues.

Teaching Experience:

Experienced tutor and facilitator. Taught in both mainstream and special needs schools and colleges in London (Wandsworth College and the City Lit.) and for East and West Sussex Education authorities. I have run special projects for Gifted and Talented pupils for East Sussex and have run youth theatres and produced numerous theatre, film and writing projects. I taught Drama, English and creative writing to seriously ill children at St Bartholomew`s Hospital school for over five years. My work has been featured in The Times Educational Supplement.

Qualification in teaching from the City Lit., Diploma in drama from an accredited British Drama School. Trained in film at the Kensington Film Project and Brighton Film School as well as training with film director Mike Hodges (Get Carter, The Croupier).

Experienced writer and happy also to teach writing and play/screenplay writing.

Tutoring Approach:

A member of AQA and Edexcel, I work with past papers to make sure students are thoroughly prepared for examinations. I work in a person centred way so that the teaching session is focused on each student's particular needs. I create learning plans for each student. I am empathetic to learners and able to empower students, get them enthusiastic about the work and able to think for themselves.
Extensive practical experience of writing, drama; acting and directing, means I can be of particular assistance to students studying plays and novels. I have developed special resources for A Doll`s House, An Inspector Calls, Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet etc. (all GCSE and A level texts), These resources enable students to gain a deep understanding of the text and to know how to approach exam questions.

"Dear Will, I just wanted to let you know how brilliantly he did in his exams! He got the well deserved A in drama, an A* in English and a C in Biology. Warwick required AAB but A*AC is the equivalent and they have confirmed his place for September 2016.
