Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking a funded History PhD at King's College London.

I hold a Masters in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies for which I was awarded a distinction and full funding as well as a BA Hons (First Class) in history and politics from the University of York. Given this, and my A Level subjects, I can offer private tuition in history, politics, geography and law, in preparation for GCSE, AS and A level exams. I am an organised, committed, reliable and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with children and young adults, helping them to develop their understanding and interest in a variety of subjects.

I have tutored for a number of years, and have helped those I tutor to significantly improve their exam results and grades, often taking them from C and D level grades up to high As and Bs. My most recent tutee, who I tutored in GCSE Geography and History, acheived an A* in both subjects and came top of his year at school for his GCSE grades.

I am also happy to offer any help I can with university applications.

In the lead up to the exam period I can provide intensive revision sessions and/ or revision guides for any of the subjects listed below.

References can be provided upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored since 2007, and have helped those I tutor to significantly improve their exam results and grades, often taking them from C and D level grades up to high As and Bs.

For several years I have undertaken a variety of volunteer projects, working within schools/ educational environments and with children :- this has included working at the University of York, Barley Hall (York), Westminster Palace and the Tower of London. Whilst working in these environments, I conducted a range of independent historical research projects. I then planned educational sessions based on these materials, which I then delivered to school children of various ages and abilities. It was necessary to ensure that the material collected was not only historically accurate but also easy to understand and enjoyable to learn about, helping the children to develop an interest in different periods of history.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst tutoring I would pay particular attention to the needs of each student, and tailor their study courses to best meet their needs and wishes. My approach to tutoring emphasises clarity, flexibility, and an enthusiasm for learning, within an informal and relaxed yet structured and interactive environment. I would encourage students to think imaginatively and challenge themselves academically, encouraging debate and broadening their horizons. This would not only help to improve a child's examination technique but also their academic development.

In the lead up to the exam period I can provide intensive revision sessions and/ or revision guides for any of the subjects listed below.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching privately for over 14 years and I have been teaching on-line for over 3 years and I am passionate about teaching Modern Foreign Languages. I graduated from Reading University in 1980 having also studied at Grenoble University in France followed later by a TEFL course at Swansea University. After teaching French and German in a secondary school I moved into Exporting. Since 2000 I have been running my French and German Tuition and Translation company. I make regular visits to France and Germany and have many contacts in both of these countries. I regularly work also as a Translator of French and German into English. Italian is another language which I teach having studied this fantastic language at Reading University. English as a Foreign Language is another subject with which I have great experience and I often work for SILC which is a French company that sends French teenagers to the U.K. to improve their English. I have organised educational visits for French teenagers also in the U.K. on behalf of SILC.

TUITION ALSO VIA SKYPE.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught privately for over 14 years and previously worked as a French and German teacher in a secondary school and have taught French and German to adults at Leisure Centres for over six years. For the past 14 years I have taught French and German to all levels including University level with some excellent results at GCSE and A Level. I also teach English as a Foreign Language and regularly organise study visits for French teenagers in my area. I have also taught Italian online to Beginners and also supply Tuition via a Skype connection to students for all of my subject areas. Teaching via Skype is an extremely effective means of teaching a language providing both visual, oral and written back-up with the student interacting with the Tutor. I have worked for Apricot Online Learning which provides Tuition via Skype for students who are unable to attend school on a regular basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very sympathetic approach to Tutoring and always get the best from my students. I have many years of Teaching experience and always check at every stage that the student can use the concepts which he or she has been taught. Teaching is done in a relaxed manner which puts the student at ease and this helps them to achieve their full potential. As stated above all of my students have passed all of their examinations in either French or German while studying with me at GCSE and A Level. I am passionate about my vocation as a Tutor and always go the extra mile to achieve the very best results for all of my students. Tutoring requires commitment and a total dedication to the role of mentor and educator.
My job is not only to educate but also to inspire and lead by example through proven methods which maximise a student's potential.

Personal Description:
I am a very well-qualified, experienced, friendly and successful teacher of English as a Foreign Language, and I teach individuals or small groups of students in my home. I have always loved learning languages and am very much a 'people person', which is why I decided to become an English teacher after leaving university. Even now, after over 20 years' experience, I am delighted that I am still learning new things about English language and teaching.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience has mostly been of adults and young adults (16 - 55) in small groups or one to one classes. For many years I taught English as a Foreign Language at Bell International London, and before that for the British Council in Italy (Milan and Rome) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). I have also taught on pre-sessional and in-sessional courses at Queen Mary, University of London. My students have been at all levels and from a wide variety of cultures.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very student-centred. We first discuss which language aspects my students want to improve and their previous language learning experience. We then agree on a programme, and regularly review it. Each lesson builds on the previous one and the materials and teaching approach are tailored to each individual's needs, interests and learning style.

Personal Description:
Currently studying full-time Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University of Aberdeen.

I am a friendly, conscientious individual who cares deeply about young people's personal and academic development.

When not working or studying, I enjoy taking care of my health through the gym and a variety of sports.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 5 years of tutoring experience. I have personally tutored 40+ pupils of varying mathematical ability, which has allowed me to refine and become very confident in my approach.

A large number of my tutees were found through word-of-mouth from former tutees pleased with their results.

I now have quite a few reviews, I have been registered on other websites for years and would be more than happy to supply references from other past tutees for your peace of mind.

Tutoring Approach:

I passionately believe that everyone deserves the best chance at school. However, more and more of my tutees are complaining that their schools are failing to provide that. It seems that due to funding cutbacks/lack of qualified teachers, only the most naturally gifted pupils are given the right attention and everyone else is left at the bottom of the pack.

I have no such prejudice. It does not matter to me if you are a straight A student looking for some insurance, or if you are a bottom set student who has always struggled with maths. All I expect from my tutees is their attention and a willingness to learn. If you care about your education and future prospects, then so do I.

I am available for tutoring throughout the year, even during the summer holidays for 1st/2nd year university resits.

I am available weekday evenings and at the weekend, just let me know which times would suit you. I reply very quickly.

I have a car so travelling to your home is not an issue, however I may require additional fuel money depending on your location.

Personal Description:
As a child, I learned by being told, by beatings, shaming and a strict examination system. As you can imagine I didn't learn much that I could later apply to my academic life. As a result, I became an inveterate learner, always interested in learning the next thing. At one point, the drive to learn was because I didn't see myself as being good enough. Later on, that drive became an interest in discovering my own abilities as well as about helping others. I have now learned so much about how not to teach that I have gained good insight into how learning happens. I am keen to ensure all my learners learn how to learn and understand how to apply what they discover.

Teaching Experience:

My background is in teaching, training and facilitation. I have over 25 years experience of teaching in different forms having worked within primary, secondary and further education settings. I am an NVQ / TAQA assessor and trained and assessed Parenting Practitioners and other candidates up to Level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have specialist skills in Personal Effectiveness subjects such as Report Writing, Speed Reading, Presentation Skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a private tutor used to be the preserve of only those with the highest qualifications and the greatest experience. Now all that's changed.

However good a tutor is, the learner needs to be astute in order know if the tutor is a good match for her / him. Importantly, making the right choice can be complex.
Here are three tips to help you decide if I am or someone else is right for you. The following tips describe how I teach and how I will enable you to be an independent learner.

1. Look for a tutor who can teach you how to learn
Here's a funny thing… learners study a subject, sometimes for months and years and can come away with no long-term memory of the underpinning principles of the subject. As disturbing, they have no ongoing understanding of the subject. They are unable to apply what they tried to learn. This is easily resolved by clearing up past issues with learning. In Applied Scholastics it is now well known that if as a learner, you are helped to do so, you can learn any subject. This is central to how I teach.

2. Look for tutors who understand the main barriers to learning and can help you overcome them
There are three main barriers to study. They relate to confusion over an idea, missing out critical steps and having unclear ideas about the subject under study. Gaining a day to day facility with overcoming those barriers is key to effective and efficient study. I use these methods to help my own reading and study. I will introduce them to you so that you can use them too.

3. Look for tutors who can help you find the information you need so that you keep expanding your own understanding of the subject

Sometimes, a learner during a course of study will find that s/he wants to give up. Have you ever experienced this? Whenever that happens it is because there is something - an idea, a symbol, a form of punctuation, the use of a word, or something else - that you did not understand. Without the proper factual information on this and without the correct knowledge of why and how this happens, the learner will struggle. Without knowing what remedies to apply, the learner will give up.

When you study, you are investing time and energy. In this case, money too. If you want to discover more about how you learn, what your barriers to study are and how to understand more, you will benefit from being an independent learner. That will repay your investment.

Those three critical points should help you decide if I could be right for you. They briefly describe the way in which I would work with you and enable you to be an independent learner.

Personal Description:
I am a recent Cambridge graduate and a current teacher in a private school. I am now accepting private students for the year 2017-18 in politics.

Over 2016-17, I taught the Edexcel board for Government & Politics at AS and A2 level to six private students and GCSE English to four. I also helped several students undertake their history coursework. All achieved A*s in their final grade.

PLEASE NOTE: I no longer teach history but am more than happy to assist with coursework.

I have been accepted to Cambridge twice and can therefore assist with personal statements and interview technique. Furthermore, I have been sitting exams for the last fourteen years and am therefore well equipped to help students learn and master exam technique. I also specialize in editing and improving coursework.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach A-Level Politics and History at a private school in Ashtead two days during the week. This leaves me the rest of the week to pursue my private tutoring/teaching. I am fully trained on the latest syllabus and have been DBS (formally CRB) checked.

I have tutored for the last few years in the Surrey area, bringing several students grades' up from B/C to A and A* at A-Level. I also specialize in editing and improving coursework and dissertations and have coached several students through the Oxbridge interview process. Moreover, I have three younger siblings, and regularly help them with their work at both GCSE and A-Level standard.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to tailor teaching methods to each individual student. I am hands-on however and like to create guides/notes for students to take with them. I prefer to teach rather than get paid to watch students work - although I will set useful exercises to do during our sessions. I am all about exam technique and strategy!

I am also used to working with students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Personal Description:
I am an English teacher of thirteen years' experience who holds degrees from the universities of Sussex, London and Kent, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Education. In addition to teaching, I am an active researcher and academic writer, with specialisms in modernist literature, 19th-century realism, and existentialist philosophy. I write regular online articles on George Orwell, the subject of my thesis, and am currently seeking publication of my first book, which explores existentialist motifs in his writing. As well as English, I offer tuition in essay writing, and all branches of philosophy. Although I conduct the majority of lessons from my home or over Skype, I do travel to tutees in the Horsham and Dorking areas. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you wish to discess the options available.

Teaching Experience:

I have thirteen years' experience as an educator, having taught English in an outstanding secondary school since 2003. During that time, I have helped thousands of pupils spanning the full range of abilities, and have consistently achieved exceptional 'value-added' results for my classes. In addition to working with larger groups, I have also offered regular one-to-one tuition sessions, and I take pride in never having had a pupil achieve lower than a C for GCSE English or English Literature. Indeed, the vast majority of my students achieve As and A*s, irrespective of their level of attainment when they first arrive under my supervision. My teaching has been repeatedly graded as 'outstanding', and the bespoke resources I produce in order to support students are of a professional quality.

Tutoring Approach:

As a doctoral tutor, I offer a premium service, drawing upon my own extensive academic skills and experience to give help that is tailored to the student's specific needs. I make a point of adapting not only the content, but also my teaching method to fit the learning style and personality of the individual, avoiding a 'one-size-fits-all' approach. The tutorials I offer are friendly and supportive, with a real emphasis placed upon aspiration: I want my students to aim for - and achieve - the highest possible grades. I have many years' experience setting and marking English coursework, particularly for AQA, and draw upon this to quickly identify areas for improvement in a student's work. My tutorials are designed to not only convey information clearly and in an easily-digestible form, but to provide structured opportunities for the learner to incrementally improve their skills. In addition to the lesson, I provide free email support to parents of my tutees, drawing upon my experience as a teacher to answer any queries relating to schoolwork or examinations. I offer a 50 percent discount on the first lesson, and reduced rates for groups of two or more students. Please email me to book a slot, or for a friendly discussion of your requirements.

Personal Description:
My work history is unwaveringly intertwined with education, teaching a range of subjects, in a range of different settings, with students of all ages and abilities. I have over 15 years experience, the majority of my work has been at secondary level, where my specialisms are English and English Literature, Film studies and Drama. However, I also have extensive experience in primary education where I have taught across the breadth of the curriculum.

My preoccupation with academia was nurtured at a competitive Grammar School, RGS Worcester, a top school with high expectations. I excelled in this environment, always achieving the best academic results. I went on to acquire a first class degree. I remain now, as I have always been, a high achiever.

I also work in the creative arts, as actor, tutor and director, inspired by performance art in all its forms. My current artistic interests include revising classics, puppetry, theatre in non-traditional spaces, and working as a freelance drama consultant to help smaller scale theatre companies realise their artistic aims and consolidate their working practices.

Recreationally I enjoy martial arts, exercise and the outdoors. As an avid reader I am particularly drawn to epic literature and sprawling worlds, beguiling first person narratives, comparative religious and spiritual studies, psychology, philosophy and history.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes:

Secondary Level Education:
- I worked for 6 years as a secondary school teacher, delivering Drama and English lessons, including GCSE and 'A' level, from year 7- year 13.
-I devised and delivered a formal curriculum to teach Year 9 Drama (in line with Key Stage Guidelines).
-Extensive experience in coursework, marking, moderation and exam preparation.
-On 2 separate occasions, following Ofsted observations, I was given an 'Outstanding' classification (the highest classification).
-Quantitative end of term reports always placed my classes amongst the highest in terms of achievement and student retention.
-I also assumed responsibility for cross-curricular teaching, for instance, devising lessons about The Industrial Revolution which spanned History, English, Art and Psychology.

'A' level Education:
-I taught for 6 years at 2 different Further Education Colleges. I taught English Literature, Drama and Film Studies 'A' level.
-Students were offered extra-curricular tutorials to help them achieve their desired results according to their own set of educational needs.
-I emboldened students for university entrance with interview techniques, UCAS procedures and university level preparation.
-The coursework I devised with students for their final A2 Drama and Theatre Studies was picked up as an exemplar of excellent practice, and is still used to this day by Edexcel examination board as a standard to which other schools should aim.

Primary:
-Following my successes at Secondary Education the Local Education Authority sought my services to teach in 'special-measures' primary schools across the West Midlands region.
-I devised a range of workshops, and delivered these to selected primary schools. These workshops raised literacy levels, written and oral communication. They were delivered to year 4, year 5 and year 6 students.
-My work with Redditch Borough Council as Literacy and Outreach Officer earned me an 'Outstanding personal Achievement Award'.
- I have worked as a Supply Teacher in numerous London Primary Schools, teaching all subjects, cross-curricular.

Adult Education:
-I've worked with young people trying to get back into education following exclusion, this involved working with charities like CentrePoint.
-I often work with adult learners re-taking their GCSE English.
-Postgraduate students have sought my help in the past, particularly International Students looking to improve the precision of their essays.

Complex Educational Needs:
-I am trained in Advanced Behaviour Management.
-I have experience working with SEN and PMLD students.

University Level:
-Delivering Theatre and Drama lectures, seminars and workshops to students at university level, including The University of Birmingham, University of Worcester, University of Bristol, and University of Warwick.

Other Achievements:
- Community arts and education provision. Following successful Arts Council grants I set up 2 new community arts and education groups in the West Midlands. The aim here was to build permanent organisations to provide access to education, through the arts, for all, regardless of prior educational achievement. These 2 organisations, both of which are still running to this day, are now self-sustaining businesses, now staffed by people who were once students of the organisation.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring involves the mutual balance of 2 equally important intentions: a sensitive awareness of what a student needs, and establishing a conducive rapport.

I have a flexible communication style, informed by exposure to hosts of different students, I am adaptable and responsive, a necessity built on the recognition that effective learning can only happen when tutor and student understand each other, and are mutually inspired.

At first, my focus with a new student is to provide gentle provocations on different aspects of the subject matter- a process which allows me to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, also allowing the student to start seeing the subject matter from varying perspectives, and to extend their range of problem-solving and communication strategies.

My approach always depends on the specific needs of the student, most commonly students ask for:
-Information building and comprehension
-Essay writing technique
-Filling in historical/ social/ political or cultural context to areas of study (particularly at 'A' level)
-Response to examination questions
-Improving literacy level, reading and comprehension, grammar (particularly at primary level)
-Extending and developing powers of expression
-Drawing links and developing argument
-Understanding what a question is asking
-The application of knowledge to argument

I pride myself, above all else, on my ability to engage my students. The subjects I teach I find instantly inspiring, and this love of the raw material is compounded by the fact that I genuinely care about the targets my students set for themselves. Each student is a project, and watching them improve over a programme of study is exceptionally gratifying.

You will find me a generous tutor, I am not a clock watcher, it doesn't matter, for instance, if a class runs over. I will work hard for you between lessons, marking, researching, and developing new lessons and academic exercises. I am always well prepared, focused upon specific needs of student, and always an authority on what I'm teaching.

My tutoring style is tempered by profound understanding and experience of examination board and national curriculum requirements. Moreover, my many years working as an educator entailed the need to develop a flexible range of teaching strategies correspondent to the varying learning preferences of my students.

Some recent feedback:
'I wish you had been my tutor before, I feel a lot more confident'
(Chitra, GCSE English, Adult Learner)
'Great attitude and rapport with my son very engaging'
(Sarah, mother of 'A' level; Film and Studies student)
'We are delighted to have Chris helping my daughter and her friend with the written exam In the last few weeks of their Drama and Theatre `A ` level. Inspiring, flexible, fun -knowledgable about the plays, their history and context- he is a fantastic tutor.'
(Felicity, mother of 'A' level Drama and Theatre Studies student)

Personal Description:
I am a calm and collected person and this is reflected in my approach towards tutoring. I aim to build rapport and tailor my service to the specific needs of the tutee. I primarily focus on breaking down the curriculum and assessing through mock scenarios and written assessments built upon topics studied as well as experiences the tutee has had.

As the needs of each student are different, i structure my tutoring in a way which provides realistic expectations of both exam and coursework environments and where possible, i supplement this with the use of past examination material to truly replicate the educational environment the tutee is likely to be in.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience has largely been developed by assisting students in the years below me as well as my younger siblings and my cousins with their education. I have developed this further in a professional setting where i have trained colleagues on new and unfamiliar processes. My strengths lie in breaking down complex information and making it readily accessible to tutees.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by engaging the tutee/parent/both in conversation to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the tutee, once this has been established, i draw up a comprehensive plan of action to address those needs and where possible, further enhance their existing skillsets. I am to review material with the tutee on a regular basis and ensure they have absorbed the information and more importantly, that they are able to apply it.

Where the tutee requires support via other means such as audio/visual representations of the material - i will endeavour to match this in a suitable manner.
