Personal Description:
I am South American; I came to UK back in 2000 and made Sheffield my home city. Nowadays I enjoy my family life as much as tutoring diverse disciplines such as the ones named in this site as well as Nutrition, Running and Football.

Definitely to have the opportunity to offer guidance, support and encouragement to those willing to learn and improve themselves is very fulfilling.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching both one-to-one and groups for a few years now in the disciplines named in this site. I prefer sessions to happen face-to-face but online is also fine with me.

Tutoring Approach:

First thing is to improve the tutee's self-confidence. Then to break down the big barriers into small knots that the tutee can undo with dedication and practice.

I encourage the can-do attitude. As someone once said - we do not know what we are capable of until we try.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Dundee and have an MA degree in Politics and Public Policy. Alongside my degree, I have several years' experience of tutoring and have achieved excellent results for all my students.

I aspire to get into classroom teaching, specialising in History and hope to begin my PGCE training course in September. As such, I am eager to build on my previous tutoring experience (see further details below) and gain further experience with students of all ages and abilities. I relish a challenge and really enjoy working with students one-on-one.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in summer 2012 by tutoring my friend's sister for her English Language, English Literature and History GCSEs; she went on to attain 'A' grades in all subjects. She then recommended my services to several of her classmates and, under my tutoring, three of her classmates who I was tutoring for the same subjects also went on to attain 'A' grades.

I am confident in teaching Politics at A Level, as it is what my undergraduate degree focused on and also having had experience of working in politics during the last general election, I feel I have a comprehensive knowledge of current affairs that is an asset in the classroom.

I also have three younger siblings, aged two, 13 and 17 and regularly assist the older two with their school work.

Tutoring Approach:

Having been tutoring for nearly four years now, I feel very confident in my ability to get the best out of any given student in my subjects and I know what each student is different and has different educational needs.

What I specialise in is exam technique; preparing the student for the type of question which they are likely to be asked in an examination and working closely with them to ensure that they can comfortably deal with anything that the exam throws at them; so there are no surprises on the day.

Having sat exactly the same exams myself (and being young enough to remember sitting the exams myself), I know exactly what is required of the student in order to get the very top grades, having been taught exam technique myself by my own teachers at school.

It is fair to say that my tutoring style is based, at least in part, on the style of the teachers who taught me all the way through my academic career, but particularly those who taught me at GCSE and A Level. I am now very keen to pass on the knowledge I was lucky enough to gain onto the next generation.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Christopher, I've taught Science and Maths for over 10 years. At present I am teaching Chemistry at a prestigious North London co-educational school having previously taught at City of London School for Girls. I began tutoring in 2005, after graduating from Oxford University (Worcester College 2001 - 2005), with a Masters in Chemistry. Additionally, I have worked as a Science and Maths teacher on the Government's Life Long Learning Scheme. Professionally I have served as a consultant within the environmental science/engineering sector for a large multinational corporation.

Teaching Experience:

I am a friendly, approachable Oxford educated tutor with over 10 years and 5000 hours tutoring experience, comprising a mix of one-to-one tuition, teaching within small groups as well as larger classroom environments. I have extensive knowledge of all the major examination boards with particular expertise in the OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and AQA syllabuses.

I am currently teaching Chemistry at a top independent North London School, having previously taught both Chemistry and Maths at City of London School for Girls. Earlier experience included working as a Mathematics and Science teacher on the government-funded 'Life Long Learning' Scheme, where certain pupils were affected with learning disabilities such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Additionally, I have passed the GAMSAT medical entrance exam required for certain medical schools within the UK, so can assist with the preparation required for this difficult test. I also provide numeracy and literacy tuition for those sitting professional or higher education exams and Armed Forces tests.

Undergraduate tuition is offered to those students studying for degrees that incorporate chemistry modules e.g. Business and Chemistry, foundation courses etc.

I cover Central London zones 1 - 2.

Rates: GCSE and A level: £40 per hour.

GAMSAT: £40 per hour.

I have an extensive list of references from previously satisfied clients for your perusal.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to get the very best out of students using a variety of teaching methods with a strong emphasis on exam technique. I have helped pupils of all ages and abilities both on a one-to-one basis as well as within small groups/large classroom environments.

Every person is different, and every person has his/her own grasping ability whether at home or in school. With this in mind I am very flexible and adaptable in my approach to teaching, and endeavour to create a learning environment where the pupil can thrive.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am Olga. I have been a professional musician since 1986 (BMus, CT ABRSM, Dip ABRSM) as well as an interpreter (completed DPSI course in 2009 - Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, Local Government). I am tri-lingual, fluent in Russian, English and Lithuanian. Over the years I have developed and honed many important skills, such as patience, reliability & diligence. These, coupled with my single minded determination to succeed in everything I attempt, have provided me with what I believe are the necessary skills to be an excellent teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching since 1986. I have always enjoyed teaching students of all ages/level and abilities.
I regularly work for local government, i.e. the NHS, schools, social services etc) as an interpreter. This experience is very useful in equipping me to be able to ensure that my language students develop an extremely rounded vocabulary.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is that it has to first and foremost be FUN! I feel that my students learn more readily when they are enjoying themselves. I employ a highly personalised approach with individual strategies for all my students, whether they be six or sixty-six, whether they be studying for an examination or merely for pleasure.

Personal Description:
I am a professional geography researcher specialised in regional geography and urban sciences. I have gained my knowledge and expertise from universities across Europe (Pécs, Wolverhampton, Maribor, Zagreb, and Ljubljana). I am currently a PhD Aspirant at the University of Pécs, Hungary.

I have been mainly researching in the field 'geography of energy', but my interests link my specification to other scientific disciplines such as sustainability, environmental sciences, and landscape geography, and I am able to perform and combine various geographical fields.

During my years as a PhD Student, I was given the chance to gain experience as a lecturer; teaching subjects which included: renewable energy resources and world regional geography. In 2015, I officially became a teacher after successfully completing my PGCE at the Birmingham City University in England.

As a teacher I have also gained experience in a prison setting teaching mathematics to a wide age range and ability of students and different learning levels, whilst I have been able to use the knowledge that I obtained from the course in practice.

Besides having published a number of articles and books, I am the founder and series editor of Frugeo's journal called Geographical Locality Studies.

I am a registered member of the Hungarian Geographical Society (MFT), and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL).

Teaching Experience:

Being a 'good' teacher is a subjective opinion that I cannot state about myself. I am experienced in a wide-range of teaching environments from primary/secondary school-aged pupils to adult/prison learning and higher education.

People who have observed me teaching in the past have had positive criticism of my work and mentioned how efficient and encouraging my lessons and teaching methods are. In my opinion, to be a good teacher it is essential to be flexible with the environment you work in and have to have comprehensive knowledge both in outdoors and in classroom settings. You have to experience and observe the outside world for you to engage and maintain properly an enthusiastic class when teaching geography.

The qualifications and the reputation I have obtained in Geography are the results of an enthusiasm I have had since my childhood for this subject area and it is still part of my daily life that comes to life through my own business and its journal.

Geography is not only my profession, but is also my hobby that is present in my life with all of its aspects, whether it be examining a piece of rock or talking about coffee beans, I can discuss both in an academic sense as well as out of personal interest. The diverse use of language therefore is important when encouraging others on geography and the key is to find a common interest between subject and receiver for them to understand and to be inspired by what they are learning. For example, when teaching in the prison, Mathematics combined with Geography suddenly becomes more interesting and therefore engaging.

Tutoring Approach:

For a researcher with a deep understanding about the Earth's mechanisms, Geography will always reserve a high number of mysteries. Research is the foundation for everything that is taught and this will always be exciting for me to do. But the implementation of this new knowledge may be challenging, that is why you have to keep thinking of new teaching methods to improve the quality of the subject that you are teaching. For this reason, it is essential to assist the younger generation for them to become capable to deal with geography related topics and issues.

As originally a researcher with a non-British educational background and with a very colourful and diverse interest in Earth Sciences, I am able to shake things up. My aim is to develop people's knowledge, foster their understandings on geography and help them achieve the required goals set by the school/exam board which I hope will motivate them into using geographical knowledge in their daily lives.

Personal Description:
I am a creative BA(Hons) Performance graduate from The University of the West of Scotland, currently working on my own theatre projects, working with the Home School Partnership in the South Lanarkshire area, as well as working a part time job. I graduated from Stow College, Glasgow, with an HND in Acting and Performance. Throughout the years, I have performed in several theatre pieces, including productions in Leipzig, Germany. During my time at university, I focused my research on learning language through drama and theatre techniques, which lead me to apply for a scholarship to study and complete my TEFL qualification. Through the Home School Partnership, I am learning British sign language, undergone Solution Focused training, and workshops with the Children's Parliament.

Teaching Experience:

I work with some first and second year high school students who have dyslexia or perhaps struggle with reading, to develop confidence and support the pupils with their reading skills through Scotland Reads. I have teach the pupils beginners sign language to encourage their learning, and they will be signing at the 'Scotland Reads' awards.
I have lead many workshops using drama skills, with such groups as; trainee teachers at The University of the West of Scotland, a student LGBT group, and gave one-to-one tutorials on confidence building for a trainee doctor, about to sit their final GP exam.
Having created, written, directed, produced, and performed my own theatre performance, which has been performed at the Arches, Glasgow, and the East Kilbride Arts Centre, I know how to develop and encourage my cast to accomplish the best outcome.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe people learn better when they're in a supported, creative, and guided environment. Different techniques work for different people, but it's about getting to know who you're working with in order to determine what is best for them.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Ana. Nice to meet you!

I am a qualified and experienced language tutor based in Edinburgh. If you or your child are having difficulties with Spanish or German, preparing for National 5 or GCSE exams, or perhaps just need some extra support with schoolwork, I can help.

I am a Spanish native speaker born and raised in Spain. I attended University both in Spain and Germany. After graduating I moved to Germany permanently, where I spent seven years working as a translator for the United Nations. I love foreign languages and I want you to love them too (or at least, not dread them). I'm fully fluent in German. Having learned it as a second language myself, I know all the tricky bits and how to explain them so you'll understand them once and for all.

Now I live in beautiful Edinburgh, where I have set up my own tutoring and translation business. My mission is to help students like you get better grades in Spanish and German.

Private tutoring can do wonders for a student's confidence. Whether you are struggling to keep up in class or just need a bit of extra support, you'll benefit greatly from one-to-one tuition. After a few sessions with me you can be sure to make tangible progress that will be reflected on your grades. If you're stressed about sitting National 5 or GCSE in May, stop worrying. I'm here to make sure you are fully prepared for exam success.

Exam time looms but it's not too late! Let me help you get the grades you long for.

Teaching Experience:

I am passionate about helping my students to improve their grades and achieve their full potential in Spanish and German. Over the years, I have:

• Gathered +1000 hours of one-to-one tutoring
• Helped students to build confidence and achieve exam success
• Raised the performance of students by at east one full letter grade
• Received positive feedback from students and parents

Tutoring Approach:

Often in school there is only a limited time to review a student's work and understanding. That may not always be enough. Having a private tutor gives students an extra chance to review the areas in which they may be struggling. We work together on the areas of the language that require improvement (grammar, spelling, essay writing) building up a solid foundation. I have a range of extra exercises & activities to reinforce what is being taught at school.

• For help with school lessons, we sit together and go through your homework or class work. In doing that, we will come across the concepts that are giving you trouble and I will fill in the gaps.

• If you need help to prepare for National 5 or GCSE, we work with past and specimen papers almost entirely, honing exam technique until it becomes second nature.

Get in touch now to find out how I can help you get better grades!

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a Master's Degree in Creative Writing at the University of Surrey, and applying for my PhD in the same subject, having completed a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing & Philosophy. I am a highly experienced writer, avid reader, and keen researcher. Above and beyond my academic pursuits, I believe strongly in being courteous, professional, and well-dressed at all times, living by the adage that a man is never properly dressed without a tie.

Teaching Experience:

I have a long history of teaching which began when I was studying for my A-levels, teaching judo to primary school children. I also led and taught a Creative Writing society at Alton College before I moved on to my undergraduate degree, a role within which I oversaw the publication of an anthology of student writing. During the latter years of my Bachelor's Degree, I taught creative writing, narration, and game design to younger students on an informal basis, and served as president of the university's PSiFA society. In that role I managed a society of over one hundred members, led meetings, gave speeches, and organised logistics. Now, I am looking to tutor privately while I work full-time on my Master's.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to learning, I believe that the most effective method is to teach through example and practice. Learning lists of facts by rote is a poor method, and all too common in education these days. I believe that students learn best when they are actively engaging in the subject, by writing their own work, assessing and identifying their own mistakes, and relying on the guidance and advice provided by a tutor rather than being lectured. Most people retain knowledge and learn best when they do things for themselves. In writing specifically, imagination should be encouraged and developed, and I specialise in three core areas; workshopping through written exercises (having the student write short pieces aimed at developing certain areas, and then assessing them through discussion), combining research with writing (learning research skills and showing how they can be applied to improving the student's writing), and planning & structure (to create effective work methods).
