Personal Description:
I have recently returned home to Northern Ireland after completing my PGCE and 6 years teaching experience in Newcastle Upon Tyne. In my career to date I have worked as classroom teacher as well as Head of Spanish. I have had specific responsibility for teaching Spanish and French to GCSE level and Spanish to A-level. In recent years I have had 93% A*-C success at GCSE level and 100% A*-C at A-level.

I hold a joint BA Hons degree in French and Spanish from Trinity College Dublin, which I achieved in 2009. During my time at Trinity I spent a year "off-books" in order to teach English as a Foreign Language Assistant in France and I spent 3 months studying in Spain. These experiences allowed me to immerse myself in the cultures and improve my fluency in each language.
I love languages and have always had a passion for learning languages and teaching.

Teaching Experience:

Park View School, August 2012 - August 2016: Teacher of French & Spanish, Head of Spanish
All Saints College, January 2011 - August 2012: Subject Leader of Spanish
Queen Elizabeth High School, September 2010 - January 2011: Teacher of French to A-level and Spanish

I am trained to teach both French and Spanish to A-level, however in recent years I have gained more experience teaching A-level Spanish. I have taught Spanish at both AS and A2 level, with specific responsibilities for teaching grammar, topic work, speaking skills, essay writing skills, and the regional topic for which I developed and completed three successful Spanish Exchanges with a school in Ciudad Real, Castilla-La Mancha. To date I have 100% A*-C success rate at AS and A2 level.
I have also taught French and Spanish to GCSE level and I have carried out numerous speaking exams. I work hard to ensure that my pupils are fully prepared and confident before sitting a speaking exam.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe I am a friendly, approachable individual and I have been commended for my positive rapport and warm relationship with my pupils. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, however I feel that one-to-one tutoring provides the opportunity to concentrate wholly on possible weaknesses and work together to overcome and master the language.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Christopher, I've taught Science and Maths for over 10 years. At present I am teaching Chemistry at a prestigious North London co-educational school having previously taught at City of London School for Girls. I began tutoring in 2005, after graduating from Oxford University (Worcester College 2001 - 2005), with a Masters in Chemistry. Additionally, I have worked as a Science and Maths teacher on the Government's Life Long Learning Scheme. Professionally I have served as a consultant within the environmental science/engineering sector for a large multinational corporation.

Teaching Experience:

I am a friendly, approachable Oxford educated tutor with over 10 years and 5000 hours tutoring experience, comprising a mix of one-to-one tuition, teaching within small groups as well as larger classroom environments. I have extensive knowledge of all the major examination boards with particular expertise in the OCR, Edexcel, WJEC and AQA syllabuses.

I am currently teaching Chemistry at a top independent North London School, having previously taught both Chemistry and Maths at City of London School for Girls. Earlier experience included working as a Mathematics and Science teacher on the government-funded 'Life Long Learning' Scheme, where certain pupils were affected with learning disabilities such as ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Additionally, I have passed the GAMSAT medical entrance exam required for certain medical schools within the UK, so can assist with the preparation required for this difficult test. I also provide numeracy and literacy tuition for those sitting professional or higher education exams and Armed Forces tests.

Undergraduate tuition is offered to those students studying for degrees that incorporate chemistry modules e.g. Business and Chemistry, foundation courses etc.

I cover Central London zones 1 - 2.

Rates: GCSE and A level: £40 per hour.

GAMSAT: £40 per hour.

I have an extensive list of references from previously satisfied clients for your perusal.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to get the very best out of students using a variety of teaching methods with a strong emphasis on exam technique. I have helped pupils of all ages and abilities both on a one-to-one basis as well as within small groups/large classroom environments.

Every person is different, and every person has his/her own grasping ability whether at home or in school. With this in mind I am very flexible and adaptable in my approach to teaching, and endeavour to create a learning environment where the pupil can thrive.

Personal Description:
I am a native Italian speaker, confident, enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. I have attended the TT 4 in Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Sector (PTTLS) and the diploma 3 in Children and Young People's Workforce. I also graduated in Arts (Italian Modern Studies) and completed my MA in Italian Language and Literature in 2008 at Pisa University.
By teaching in different countries, environments and working with people of all ages, I have acquired a board experience, which allows me to identify and address learners' needs and plan in order to get the best outcomes for them. Through the way I teach, I hope to show and motivate the students to learn and understand the history and the culture of my country because learning a foreign language is not just imparting rules of grammar.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experiences include working as key worker in the nursery and teaching Italian language for foreign adults and children in London. In Italy, for two years, I worked for an organisation which specialized in helping migrants (aged 17 to 50) to learn the language and as a personal tutor for a secondary school girl with dyslexia. I have also taught a variety of subjects (including Italian language, literature, history and Maths) to Primary, GCSE and A-level students for about 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my studies and experiences, I acquired a widen knowledge of contemporary teaching methods and approaches which contribute to plan, organise and deliver high standard lessons according to learner's level.
At the beginning, I usually carry out an assessment (oral and written) for ascertaining student's knowledge of the language and learning style. Then, I plan each lesson in advance and according to the student's needs. I always prepare handouts, worksheets or quizzes that help student to memorise the concepts and me to check her/his progress. I like to use different kinds of resources in order to create a more interactive and motivating lesson every time.

Personal Description:
I am an actor currently completing an MA at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and an arts enthusiast with incisive critical engagement skills and 5 years private tuition experience. I'm able to draw from a wide range of critical theories and approaches when analysing arts and performance related texts. A big fan of film, theatre, visual art, music, literature and comedy.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from Royal Holloway in 2011 with the highest degree grade of the graduate year. I was approached by many of my co-students to advise them on essays and creative work and was employed by the Drama department to run workshops for prospective students. I'm now a professional theatre-maker and freelance drama practitioner having led workshops with a wide spectrum of people from ages 10 up to 75 years old. I also offer audition guidance and monologue tuition for actors and acting students.

Testimonial from Ina:

"Thank you for all your help with my Film Studies, I ended up getting an A* and also an A* in Media Studies. so I got my place at the University of Exeter to study Management with Marketing, thanks a lot, I couldn't have done it without you!"

Testimonial from Nadia:

"Dean's tuition was fantastic! He is patient but he still pushed me to do my best. I am much more confident writing about drama and theatre. Dean made sure I understood everything we talked about which meant I didn't forget it in my exam and I ended up getting an A!"

Tutoring Approach:

I like to spread a love and enthusiasm for arts and humanities subjects with an emphasis on the potential for personal as well as academic development. I am an adaptive tutor skilled at relating the work to the student's own experiences, ensuring they establish their own academically applicable opinions, ideas and approaches. I'm a meticulous problem solver and am able to pinpoint areas that need attention, particularly in essays, coursework and presentation work. I'm a natural entertainer but always maintain focus on the task at hand, offering insightful, productive and engaging tuition sessions to my students.

Personal Description:
I am a QTS qualified, native-Greek speaking teacher with BA in Primary Education and MA in Drama and Theatre Education. I have strong theoretical knowledge and confidence in my practice. During my Master's studies I examined the use of drama as a pedagogic approach in language acquisition for second language learners.
I always devote time researching extensively into specialist bibliography and seek every opportunity to undertake further training in order to achieve my teaching duties. I am currently studying for a PhD in Education at the University of Nottingham.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven years teaching experience in Primary schools in Greece, in private tuitions, as well as in Primary, Secondary and Greek Community Schools in the UK. I have been teaching Greek as a Second Language and as a Foreign Language at all levels, from primary students to adult learners with various literacy backgrounds. I am confronted with the challenge to help bilingual and English speaking students build confidence in expressing themselves in Greek and motivate them to become active learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I plan my teaching taking into account special educational needs, cultural background and emotional considerations. I always implement effective intervention plans tailored to my students' individual needs. I prepare educational material and interactive exercises based on modern communicative approaches in order to develop my students' language skills.
I organise my lesson plans in creative and inspiring ways using drama as educational tool. I believe in drama as a way of learners' language acquisition, as it helps them get engaged in communication situations with cultural and social dimensions.

I taught 2nd and 3rd Form (Yr 7 & 8) drama using existing schemes of work alongside those I created. • Management (Responsible for a team of staff)

• Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

• Solo Lesson Delivery
• Team Teaching

March - April 2008 - Point Blank Theatre Company - Drama Facilitator

• Lesson Planning
• Team Teaching
• Behaviour Management
• PR

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, permently based in Hulme, Manchester.

I am currently a Society Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities (USA) for the academic year 2016-17, and will therefore only be available for Skype appointments until the end of July 2017.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

University Undergraduate Level:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

Personal Description:
Associate Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW and first class mathematics graduate from the University of Warwick. Have enjoyed studying mathematics and finance academically and for pleasure for over a decade, including helping others to advance their understanding and enthusiasm for the subjects along the way. I'm also a proud educational volunteer as a Non-Executive Director and School Governor of a Secondary Academy. Mathematics and education aside, I'm a book lover, piano player and keen (but not quite pro) skier.

Teaching Experience:

Non-Executive Director and School Governor of a Secondary Academy, serving on the Finance and Teaching/Learning committees and as a Governor in charge of the Mathematics department. I've also helped others to advance their understanding and enthusiasm for mathematics for over a decade.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to prepare and inspire each student to want to understand the questions and to ultimately explain the answers to me. I constantly ask questions that encourage them to strip each question back to its mathematical basics, enabling them to build upon their knowledge to reach the answer, having fully understood how they arrived at it. Studying mathematics (and finance) for over a decade, and helping others to excel in the subject along the way, has taught me that confidence and enjoyment are key; and confidence and enjoyment are exactly what I instill in each of my students.

Personal Description:
Hello and welcome to my profile! It's great to have you here!

OK, so I'll tell you a little about myself… My name is Aman. I am a qualified EFL/ESL teacher and I have been working abroad for the last 16 years in different countries from Thailand to Dubai.

For the last 5 years I was working with the British Council as an academic manager in Qatar. Here I was managing educational programmes and a team of teachers, which I loved! I provided training for teachers and worked on curriculum development.

When I am not working, I love movies, music, socialising and meeting new people and learning about new cultures! I am also a big coffee drinker.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 15 years experience teaching English as a foreign language.

I have taught students of all levels from beginner to advanced and have worked with students from all over the world helping them to improve and develop their general English language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking by designing lessons to bring out their full potential.

In addition to teaching general English, my ELT specialism for my Cambridge DELTA was Exam Preparation Classes. Therefore, I have solid experience and knowledge of helping learners prepare for the IELTS exam and get the band they want by focusing on the strategies needed in each module. Moreover, I can also help you prepare for the Cambridge First (FCE) exam.

Tutoring Approach:

Although, the heading states 'Approach to Tutoring', I look at it as 'Our Approach to Learning'.

Together, we will look at YOUR English language goals, and the best way to achieve them, as every learner has different needs.

Lessons are learner-centred, that means I do not teach in a 'lecture' style, but provide opportunities for you to produce and practise language and then look at ways to further develop and improve that language. It is important for me that you feel comfortable and relaxed in these sessions. Lessons should be enjoyable and engaging for you (and me!).

There is error correction throughout lessons, but this is where you will self-correct with my guidance making you more aware of which areas need more focus.

Depending on your level, I use a range of materials from coursebooks, internet, newspapers, magazines to podcasts and videos.

I will give you regular homework, which will help to reinforce what you have learnt and give you more independence in using English. My aim is for you to feel more confident in any situation where you have to use English.

Feel free to contact me and let's talk about what you need. You can ask me any questions and I'll be happy to explain.

There is no obligation and don't worry, I don't bite!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Aman

Personal Description:
I graduated with an upper 2:1 in English Literature and Journalism in 2012. As well as receiving a scholarship and bursary to attend this university, I was awarded the subject prize for journalism upon graduation. Hopefully, this goes some way to demonstrating both my strong work ethic and my aptitude for academia.

In the years since then, I have travelled extensively. As well as living in London, Brighton and Melbourne, I have explored South-East Asia and even taught English to local children in Laos. Now I've found my feet back in my hometown, and am currently working as a freelance copywriter creating all manner of marketing materials written to various client briefs. This means my schedule is fully flexible. I would love to spend a few spare hours a week tutoring, as I think it would be both a meaningful and a rewarding way to supplement my income.

Teaching Experience:

Aside from a stint volunteering in Laos teaching English to local schoolchildren, I have experience proofreading essays at various academic levels. This stems from my five-year career as a freelance copywriter. I am confident with my writing ability, as well as in my grasp of grammar and language. I feel well-placed to aid those who are perhaps not so confident in these areas.

I am also very widely read. An appreciation for context is fundamental for pushing literature grades up to those higher tiers.

Aside from this, I have experience on a one-to-one basis teaching piano lessons. I would certainly apply similar interpersonal skills to tutoring in English. I am patient, friendly, and above all else passionate about English literature and language.

Tutoring Approach:

Certainly, when preparing for English exams, a thorough understanding of the assessment objectives (AOs) is imperative to earn a higher grade. For an English literature exam, this would mean we would analyse a range of key literary critical concepts. We would also get to grips with how to structure an argument, as well as looking at writing techniques, context, and expression. As for English language, we would have a thorough look at various linguistic methods and terminology, including clause structure, tenses, and other key parts of speech.

I also encourage homework! The pressures of writing an essay under exam conditions are tremendous, particularly if a pupil is not prepared. In preparation for an English Literature A Level exam, I would recommend one essay a week under timed conditions, which I would then grade. It's challenging, but it is worth the work.

As for my teaching style, I find enthusiasm is often highly contagious. Whether it's a seemingly dry bit of Shakespeare or an enigmatic Romanticist poem, we'll work together to find ways to demystify the language and even make it enjoyable.

Apostrophe angst? Sentence structure struggles? I can also aid you with grammar, punctuation, writing techniques and other essential writing or language skills.

Personal Description:
I am from the UK but lived in Spain and Italy for many years where I learnt how to speak and write both languages to high level. I also learnt how to do yoga and meditation, cook, coach football, do shiatsu, be more outgoing, sit at the dining table for long periods while chatting, and not lose my temper while driving in Rome. In Italian, they say that learning another language is like finding another soul, and it is true that with a new language and culture, you can explore facets of yourself that you never knew you had, meet people who would never have crossed your path and all in all experience a deeper richness to life.

Teaching Experience:

Taught English for many years in Spain having my own company for children and adult groups.
Worked with an experimental school in Italy called Lingua Viva applying yoga and meditation to language learning in English and Spanish.
Set up an English summer School called Playing to Learn where students learnt English through sports.
Worked at Oakham School in Rutland for seven years as a Spanish and Italian teacher. I taught both languages to GCSE, A Level and IB diploma. I also helped students with preparation for Oxbridge exams and interviews.
Currently lead-teacher at Hebden Bridge School working with children aged 8-13.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very skilled in inspiring children to learn, and helping them to achieve excellent exam results. More than 60% of my students receive A stars at GCSE and at A level they achieve A*, As or Bs. This is done by knowing the subject and the exam technique inside out as well as helping children find their motivation for learning. I also prepare children for Oxbridge entrance and interviews.
For adults, I make the classes fun and practical bringing a lot of cultural content into the learning.
