Personal Description:
Hello,

I am Alfiya. I am a professional qualified and experienced tutor in individual and group Russian teaching. I have been in Edinburgh for almost 6 years and have been a tutor in Russian, freelance interpreter and translator for all this time. I like communicating and meeting new people, friendly, easy-going, open, quick-minded. Have a passion for teaching Russian. In my free time I like reading, learning about different cultures, going in for sport, socialising.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from Irkutsk State Linguistic University in Russia in 1996. Had been teaching English for Russian students and Russian for foreign students at Kazan State University for 15 years (Russia). My specialities are: Russian from Elementary to Advanced.

In 1999 I studied at the Open Society Institute-Samara where I attended Soros Intensive Teacher Training Course for University Instructors in Samara Russia. In 2000 I finished the course in 'Improvement of Professional Skills on Teaching Methodology of Foreign Languages' at Kazan State University in Russia. In 2005 I attended the Conversational Spanish course in Spanish Centre of Education and Culture at Kazan State University. Back to Russia I worked as a Lecturer in English at Kazan State Teaching University and at Kazan State University as a Lecturer in Russian and English. I participated as a tutor in English in the Presidential Programme of Russia by giving lectures on Business English for top managers, directors of companies and firms and businessmen to take part in international business as Russia opened up to worldwide and free trade. 10 of my former students went onto internships in Greece, Italy, Denmark, Germany and Japan after finishing this programme. I am the author of four scientific publications in the field of linguistic relations in Russian, English and Tatar.

While living in the UK I have worked as a freelance tutor and translator for Scottish&Newcastle, Scottish Parliament, NHS and Rudolf Steiner School. I am really proud of the fact that among my students are people of different ages, knowledge of Russian and purposes of learning it and who are professionals in different fields for example in language and science teaching, sales and marketing, medical research, social work, to name just a few.

At the present moment I am doing the HND Tourism course at Stevenson College. Last year I completed successfully the HNC Tourism course at the same college.

Tutoring Approach:

Always try to make students interested in the subject I teach. Not afraid to praise them even if they do not get immediate good results. Tend to get feedback from them. Plan carefully each lesson. Use the Internet and PC in preparing for lessons. Try to make lessons interesting, various by combining different aspects of learning a language: Grammar, Vocabulary, Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading. Each course that you will attend is tailored to your needs and depends on your level of knowing Russian and purpose of learning. I teach Russian through the Skype system as well. Each month organise Russian Converstaion Club for my students to help them learn some more about Russia apart from lessons. We discuss various topics in Russian (the topic of each session is given in advance), do different activities based on the theme of the session. The aim of Russian Conversation Club is to improve Russian conversational skills of my students and help them learn more about Russian culture and history.

Personal Description:
I live and work in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Currently I am employed by the Open University as an Associate Lecturer tutoring modules in history and the humanities. I have also worked at other local universities teaching history and politics, including a recent contract at Newcastle University.

I have research interests in history at post-doctoral level, specialising in late nineteenth and early twentieth century British electoral politics.

I am looking to teach students at a higher education level or those aspiring to it. I can work with students at levels including: A-Level or equivalent, at foundation degree level, at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

I am looking to work with students studying history, politics or those looking to build study and learning skills for higher education, especially those interested in studying the arts and humanities.

Teaching Experience:

I have fourteen years experience of working at higher education institutions. My main teaching has been in the field of British and European history, other humanities at foundation level (including literature, history of art, music, religious studies, history of science and medicine and philosophy) and contemporary politics.

At the Open University, I have also specialised in study skills teaching to aid access to further courses, working with students from a broad range of educational experiences.

Some of the work I do is one-to-one teaching, so I am used to working with individual students and responding to their needs.

I regularly provide teaching in the form of lecturers and tutorials, and marking of assignments.

I like to create teaching materials to help students with their studies.

OU lecturers receive regular feedback from their students about their teaching and I tend to gain very good feedback.

I am also involved in postgraduate teaching concerning research in local history.

Tutoring Approach:

I am familiar with a range of teaching methods and would tailor the support to students on the basis of their requirements.

At the OU, much of my work is distance learning-related which involves correspondence, online and telephone communication so I am happy to provide this sort of support to students across the country.

I can also meet up with students for face-to-face contact even some distance away if that is suitable.

I am happy to mark work and offer feedback to students, including essays and dissertations.

I can assist students with their current studies.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated from a Masters degree in drama at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama having graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in English. Teaching has always been a great passion of mine and one to one tutoring is the most rewarding, in its opportunity for directness and specificity.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for three years and have also tutored drama in schools over the last few years. I have also had teaching experience abroad, teaching English as a foreign language in Indian and African schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to make learning fun whilst also ensuring fast and effective progress. I ensure that I get to know my students' ways of learning as soon as possible in order to tailor my tutoring style to their individual needs. I hope to be able to offer a way of learning different but utterly beneficial to the current exam syllabuses which can often seem fairly daunting and rigid on first impression.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am Eve. I have been tutoring for 5 years in English, Drama, History and Film.

After graduating with a First-Class Honours BA from the University of Bristol, I went on to cofound a non-profit organisation. I then completed an MA at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, receiving a Distinction.

Whether you or your child need help with an essay, an exam or an audition, I am happy to help. I offer both academic knowledge and practical expertise.

Teaching Experience:

I have:

- Over 1000 hours of tutoring experience.
- Helped students to lift their grades by up to 4 levels.
- Worked with those of all nationalities aged 2-65

Recommendation:
'Eve tutored my son in GCSE Drama, English, History and Spanish. He found her teaching to be very clear and he required a great understanding of all the subjects taught, which was reflected in his very improved grades. Eve has a natural enthusiasm for teaching and an excellent ability to communicate with people. I would give her my highest recommendation as a tutor. Eve was very keen to get the best out of her student and her encouragement yielded great results!'

Tutoring Approach:

My goal each session is to help the student appreciate the role of art and culture in the curriculum (and the world more widely) be it by reading aloud with a small child or assisting an adult learner in analysing a film. By helping the student to discover his or her innate creativity, the student begins to enjoy the subject and move towards academic success. Together, we:

- Identify grammatical errors or creative blocks.

- Deepen knowledge.

- Learn tried-and-tested study skills.

- Set achievable goals for steady improvement.

Personal Description:
I have a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, followed by an MA in Classics from King's College London, for which I received a Distinction. I started tutoring Classics part-time in September 2013 for Kaleido Tutors (can supply reference), then expanded to freelance work in Spring 2014, when I began tutoring English Language and Literature. Despite my academic credentials in Classics, my love and learning of English literature has remained strong since A-level (Grade A), and I am currently researching for a PhD which will cover both Classical and English literature (likely starting at King's College London, Jan 2015). My academic aspirations do not hamper my commitment to tutoring: not only do I thoroughly enjoy teaching, but it helps to ground and shape my interest in the subjects of Classics and English.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Greek for a year (starting immediately after finishing my MA in Classics in Sept 2013), and English Language & Literature since Spring 2014:
- All tutees (freelance/Kaleido Tutors) experienced at least a two grade increase, with most achieving >90% in end of year exams (Summer 2014).
- One Latin tutee went from near-bottom to top of his class to top (97% end of year result).

Tutoring Approach:

The great advantage of one-to-one tutoring over classroom teaching is that I can pay full attention to the uniqueness of the tutee. Everyone is different, and I am able to match my skills to the tutee's needs, iron out any particular foibles, and thus increase the tutee's confidence in the subject. Tuition in both English and Classical subjects centres around the same skill set: attention to detail, effective lesson structure, allowing the tutee the freedom to find the correct answer, as opposed to just lecturing.

My favourite aspect of Classical and English literature is the unparalleled connection between the nuts and bolts of the languages and the grand themes they explore. I believe this relationship is key to the effective tuition of language and literature: I like to find a literary theme my tutee is interested in and tie it to the intricacies of the language - grammar does not have to be learnt in a bubble.

Personal Description:
Hey, I'm Vhinoth, currently a third year medical student at Edinburgh university. I'm 20 years old, and from London, where I took GCSEs and A-levels. I have a good academic record, with A*'s in 3 A-Levels and 11 A*'s at GCSE, with a strong background in maths and science.

I took these in England, so I would need a bit of prior notice to brush up on the syllabus here in Scotland, but I am very confident I can help you or your child with their subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved in helping younger students struggling with their subjects whilst at school for a number of years, and helped many achieve their true potential at both GCSE and A-level. I have always had great feedback, and try to engage with my tutees as much as possible.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim will be trying to help you or your child understand the concepts fully, then going through practice/past exam papers to help them test their knowledge and refine their exam technique.

I will try to to provide a friendly atmosphere, and encourage my tutees to ask questions and to work through problems methodically. I am always happy to be contacted at short notice and to provide feedback on completed work set by me, or by someone else. I enjoy the teaching and I'll be trying to be as helpful as possible. Personal Description:
I am currently training to be a doctor at the University of Manchester. Before embarking on my current endeavour, I completed a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, graduating with a 1st class (I graduated 3rd in the year group).

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of presenting information to others during my degree, which involved presenting complex scientific information in a simple and succinct manner.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in thorough preparation so I am happy to be sent material/questions that I can review before each session. I believe tuition is the foundation for better study so I aim to read around the topics that I teach in order to be ready to help the student apply their knowledge to academic problems and real-life situations. Getting the highest grade possible involves mastering topics that are difficult which is where I can help. I aim to make learning interesting while helping the tutee get to grips with challenging topics such as hydrogen NMR, redox reactions, Born-Haber cycles, organic reaction mechanisms and pH/pKa calculations, to name a few.

I continue to study chemistry informally in order to keep my knowledge up to date. Currently, I am studying the commercial applications of inorganic chemistry. I have extensive experience in studying all the major branches of chemistry: physical, organic and inorganic chemistry.

Personal Description:
I am freelance Tutor, Traner and Consultant for GCSE O & A level economics, business and maths for all exam boards. I also provider students assignment support in BA projects and dissertation for undergragrauates and postgraduate students in business and health management and social care including nursing. I also help students with data analysis using SPSS

Teaching Experience:

My background is medicine and moved to business specialising in services marketing. I have years of experience as a clinical bedside instructor for medical and nursing students then later spent years as training consultant for health care professionals. I have also worked as senior lecturer for Glyndwr university London campus teaching BA and MBA programme and project and dissertation supervision in business and health care management related subjects. I have been a private tutor since 1999.

Tutoring Approach:

I use student problem identified approach which means I encourage students to identify and communicate to me what they are experiencing as a problem and then based either on one to one or small group, I focus on these specified identified problems. The benefits of this approach is that it encourages the student to study and also provides me the basis for my own assessment to whether my tutorial has made a difference.
