I also tutor for primary maths. I have always found working one to one, means I can identify your child's areas of weakness and we can work together to ensure they have appropriate strategies to ensure success in the future. I use both online games and pen and paper exercises to ensure your child is interested and having fun whilst learning.

I have also worked with adults, helping them improve their level of written language, specifically working on producing letters of application, handwriting and up to date c.vs.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 16 years and am Head of English at a large, well respected private school. I teach in both Key stage 2 and key stage 3. Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Mathematical Economics from the University of Birmingham and a Chartered Management Accountant. I worked in finance for about twenty years and have been a governor in primary and secondary schools for many years before deciding to enter the teaching profession. I have been on the GTP training course for Secondary Mathematics at London South Bank University. I am the Instructor of the Kumon Study Centre in Eltham and do one-to-one tutoring in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 students on the Kumon maths programme at my study centre in Eltham. I individually tutor maths students from key stage 2 at primary school right through to A level. I also tutor statistics at GCSE, AS and A2 level. References are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

There are many reasons why parents decide to appoint a tutor for their child. I will discuss your requirements in detail with you to ensure your child's tuition is tailored to them. Some pupils find the transfer from primary to secondary schooling problematic. I can explain the underlying mathematical concepts and to show them how to tackle questions so that they can get into the higher maths set for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. For older pupils I will build their confidence by presenting topics in a variety of ways and improving their exam techniques.
If one hour is too long for your child, I can arrange 30 or 45 minute slots. I will travel up to 5 miles from Sidcup.

Personal Description:
I began tutoring during my chemistry study, which I finished with a Master's of Science in Chemistry (first class degree) and a PhD in Biochemistry (first class degree). I have successfully tutored over seventy A-level students in twelve years and have helped graduate and undergraduate students at university. One of my pupils was a medicine student, who said after my lesson: "I did not know chemistry is so easy".
I am familiar with the special requirements of the GAMSAT exam and have expert knowledge in biochemistry, microbiology and molecular biology.
As a fifty year old German citizen, I have lived in England for thirteen years. Tutoring is my main profession now.

Teaching Experience:

Twelve years of experience as a Chemistry Tutor enable me to help students to accelerate their understanding of Chemistry and to archive their full potential. Based on a thorough assessment a tutoring plan is developed to fill in gaps and to build up a solid foundation of knowledge.

I have successfully tutored students for their A-level, university and GAMSAT exams and I am happy to provide references. I have been with a well known tutor agency for several years and I am fully CRB checked.

I have worked for 18 years in high profile labs in scientific research all over the world including Tόbingen (Germany), Hamburg (Germany), Paris (France), Atlanta (USA), Vancouver (Canada), Cambridge (UK) and Leicester (UK).
During this time I have taught undergraduate university students and have supervised Masters and PhD students. My scientific expertise includes Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Protein chemistry, Chemical Analytic and Genetic Engineering.

Testimonials:

"Thank you so much for your help this year. My understanding has improved immensely and my confidence has also greatly benefited. I can now enjoy chemistry without the confusion and stress, even the exams have become enjoyable!"
Gabrielle Christie

"You are a really good teacher and explain things very well." Rakhi Bharadia

"I like the way you teach. You do not spoon fed, but help me to find the solution on my own." Joe F.

"I can't thank you enough for the tuition you gave to me - it was invaluable." Lydia Dewis

"You have helped me a lot when it was really needed." Suhrud Banhatti.

"I wanted to thank you for your help and let you know that I got into my
first choice university" Amandeep Kang.

"I wouldn't have been able to get the A* without your help." Sanjeev Braich

"I got my GAMSAT results the other day and scored an average of 63 (which is in the top 15% of the country)!! Thanks so much for your help" Roshan Sing Rupra

Tutoring Approach:

Whenever I get a new client I begin with a thorough assessment: What kind of person is he or she, what basic knowledge is present and what are the main problem areas? Then a tutoring plan is suggested to reach the goal in a reasonable time frame.

My tutoring lessons are individually tailored to the needs of the student and designed to be entertaining but also challenging. The interview style of the session keeps the tutee focused and engaged. I incorporate examples of daily life and draw comparisons with situations from sports and hobbies. In my last assignment, we even did some small chemistry experiments (no worries parents - only harmless ones - the kitchen did not blow up!).

Besides improving their learning strategies, I ensure my students are well prepared for exams by practicing past papers and using official mark schemes. However my emphasis lies on building up a solid foundation of knowledge and the skills of applying it. I am familiar with the four main exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and B), but might add additional information, if this helps with the understanding. Homework of around 30 min is given between sessions to practice and deepen the new knowledge.

I give my best to make the teaching interesting and enjoyable, which motivates him or her to learn. I understand that at the beginning there might be resentment towards the subject. However there has to be a basic willingness to learn. If I do not feel the openness at least to try, I reserve myself the right to decline the assignment.

Nevertheless I have a lot of patience and enthusiasm, which let me usually get along very well with my students. I hope at the end of my tuition I can quote you saying "I did not know chemistry is so easy".

Additional information: travel costs up to 5 miles distance are included in my fess. For distances of 5 - 10 miles add £4, for 10 - 20 miles add £8 to the hourly charges. I do not tutor at my home, but also offer online tuition.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about helping young people to learn and develop themselves. I have over 10 years experience working with children in a variety of roles, ranging from Deputy Director of Youth Camps to private tutor for academic studies and violin.

I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for learning in order to nurture their curiosity. Although I am very organised and task-focused, my methods are based on making learning fun, positive and engaging, as this has shown to work best in my previous roles.

In my free time, I have a passion for music and I play first violin in an amateur orchestra based in London. I also love travelling, learning new languages and experiencing new cultures whenever possible.

As far as my aspirations, I am currently working on setting up an organisation aimed at helping young women get into the technology sector.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience tutoring young people in France. Between 2007 and 2011 I worked with a number of students on a variety of subjects, ranging from year 5 to year 13. This ranged from general support for younger pupils and subject-focused tuition for A-Level students. I also currently give private French tuition to adults in London.

I worked with all of my students for at least one year, helping them to get a better grasp and understanding of the disciplines they were having difficulties with. I have always succeeded in my task of helping them to improve and reach a new level of achievement by setting challenging yet achievable targets. With one student, I helped her to discover the beauty of Spanish (a subject she had little interest in) and to get top marks for her A-level. Another I worked with across all disciplines and helped her to successfully pass her GCSE equivalents when she was predicted to perform poorly.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about tutoring and able to adapt to any challenges and find a solution that works for the individual student. I like to explore new ways of learning and find a way that helps the student to understand and appreciate concepts and ideas that they previously found complicated and to build on existing capacities.

I have worked both through agencies and directly with families and have received consistent praise for my work and dedication with my students. I am used to working with families with high expectations and understand the importance of a good communication with the parents as well as the student to keep them in the loop of the progress made and the steps implemented to reach the target set.

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

March - April 2008 - Point Blank Theatre Company - Drama Facilitator

• Lesson Planning
• Team Teaching
• Behaviour Management
• PR

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, fun and experienced tutor. I believe a healthy dose of humour and kindness is important when teaching and I am a very professional and hard working person.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Zoe. I am a PhD, experienced teacher, tutor and youth worker. During my career, I have seen how young people can easily be the victim of missed opportunities through various reasons. It was my desire to leave teaching in order to pursue that which inspired my long journey: to make a difference in a young person`s life, who truly needs it.

I now run my private tutoring business to provide a personal scheme of learning carefully tailored to each individual.

Also, I provide a free half an hour "Meet and Greet" session where we can discuss in detail expectations, prices and curriculum.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a teacher at Secondary School and College level. I have been with the Youth Offending Team for a few years now and have specialist training in various types of "difficult" behaviour.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a tailored approach. Each person is an individual. Through a Meet and Greet, we have the opportunity to get to know each other and so I can get to know the student's needs and curriculum. From there, we can work together to create a tailored scheme of work and activities.
