Teaching Experience:

I have been in the field of teaching languages (Italian being my special subject) for 21 years and have taught for all these years at all levels: children, GCSE, Highers level, University level, and adult classes both vocational and leasure/tourist.
My qualifications include a ESOL-Celta (Univ. of Cambridge) in teaching English as a Foreign Language to children and adults; a degree in English language and literature, as well as French language and literature; a PhD in Italian Studies. I have had mostly experience of teaching at University level in both language and culture (literature and cinema) in the last 10 years where my teaching ranges from beginners through to advanced level of Italian Language; and all levels of culture tutoring; translation studies.

Tutoring Approach:

Approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective.
Language in my opinion should be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

Personal Description:
I am currently a freelance writer and researcher working from home on a variety of subjects, including English Literature, Theatre/Film/Media Studies, Sociology, Psychology, as well as other Humanities. I am flexible about when I can tutor, to work round the schedule of others.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been English Literature and Psychology, and, increasingly, Sociology. At Cambridge I spent a few weeks working in a primary school, as I did when I was younger, and I used to teach primary school children at home as my mum was a childminder. I have run drama clubs and workshops, and worked with a host of young people, including those with learning difficulties. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with University students.

My students generally gain their desired grades at A-Level, if they apply themselves and take my advice on tips and tricks to help with revision - little and often is the key, as well as putting random words or theorists where you can see them everyday - like your mirror! - so they can become familiar and memorable.

Tutoring Approach:

I have access to previous papers and model exam answers, and ensure that I am clued up on exam specifications and changes. For English, I will of course always read the set texts that my tutees are studying prior to the first session. I like to mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, and always make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

For Psychology and Sociology, a more systematic approach is required; I generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations, and generally helping the student grasp what is required of them in the exam.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed my forth full time year in teaching mainstream secondary school Design and Technology. I also have 3 years experience teaching A-level Design and Technology at a large sixth form college and GCSE Design and Technology in a Pupil Referral Unit for boys with behaviour difficulties and SEN (including Aspergers, Autism and Dyslexia.) At the Pupil Referral Unit I also began a morning literacy programme to improve the reading skills of students with primary school level abilities to great success. I am a pupil focused tutor who believes that a variety of short, varied activities keeps students focused, productive and able to learn more effectively. Went over past paper questions, the best ways to answer the questions and useful techniques and tips to follow. Set timed tasks and past papers to be completed in the class, which were marked for the next lesson.
Gave Extended Essay support: proof reading and improvement advice. Drew on my own my own extensive research skills.
Ensured tasks were varied for each lesson in order to engage the students and keep lessons interesting, upbeat and refreshing. Created a friendly, stress-free environment, focusing on trust and having some fun while learning.
Maintained open communication with the parents so that they were kept up to date with their children's progress.
All tutees boosted their marks in the subject areas taught. One student improved her mark in IB Higher Level History and English A1 from a predicted level 5 to a level 7. Another of the tutees boosted his mark in IB Standard Level Biology from a predicted level 4 to a level 6 and in Standard Level Geography from a predicted level 5 to 6. My other tutee received all A*s in his History, English and Biology A-levels.
Received great feedback from my coordinator about parents being pleased with their children's renewed interest in the subjects they were being tutored.

Tutoring with Team Up (previously the Young Educational Learning Programme - YELP) Nov-Spring 2011 - 5 tutees
Taught GCSE-level History and English Language and Literature.
Provided a straightforward, interesting study technique, particularly for English literature and poem/prose analysis, which seemed to be the most challenging area.
The aim of the programme was to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds, achieving mostly Cs or Ds but also Bs, to reach their full academic potential. I provided plenty of mentoring and focused on fostering a positive attitude towards learning and further education.
Helped students boost their final marks. One student jumped from a B to an A* in English Language and Literature, two from C to an A in History, and one from a D to a C in English.
Received very positive feedback from organisers of the programme, both for the improved results attained, but also for the friendly and fun environment created while teaching.

Tutoring IGCSE - 2008/2009 - 4 tutees
As part of the International Baccalaureate Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) programme, I tutored IGCSE English Language and Literature, History, Drama, Geography and Biology while in my last two years of school.
I mostly covered problem areas, focusing on past paper practice tasks during the hour-long lessons.
The results were positive, with all students achieving Bs and above in the tutored subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that what makes me a good tutor is the understanding that teaching is not just about laying down the facts. It is a process of developing a relationship of trust and engaging the student so that he or she genuinely enjoys learning about the subject. I find that once a student enjoys learning, it is much easier to encourage him or her to absorb the material, performing better in exams. I always try to establish this enthusiasm by varying my techniques, understanding my student's academic needs and keeping the atmosphere friendly yet focused. Every student is capable of boosting his or her marks with the right guidance and with practice. The right guidance involves looking at each student as an individual with specific academic requirements and needs and so I never use a sweeping approach to teaching, rather assessing each student's needs on a case by case basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I achieve a good balance between bringing out the fun and interesting side of the curriculum while also keeping focused on the precise requirements for achieving high grades in exams.

I am very good at explaining exactly how to write an essay which picks up as many marks as possible. A level essay writing is a skill in itself which can be broken down into succinct elements.

Too often, teachers merely teach the content of the curriculum without showing students exactly how to work that content into a successful essay. I find the best way to inspire confidence is to first teach something and then explain exactly how a student might then write about it in an essay. By the time I finish teaching a topic, my students have a clear idea of how to write an essay on it.

I have a keen interest in the political and cultural issues that surrounded religion & philosophy in the world today. I find that drawing out the connections between academic ideas and the real world is invaluable for inspiring engagement and interest.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified high school teacher with 18 years' experience of teaching English, Media Communication, Drama and Study Skills to 11-19 year olds. I have held the posts of Head of Drama, Director of Creative Arts and I have led teaching and learning across a range of senior leadership roles, including Principal. I previously worked for the BBC and was awarded a BAFTA for my role in a TV documentary series. I am educated to Masters degree level and hold a 2:1 Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media, Politics and Performing Arts. Prior to entering the teaching profession, I gained industry experience in marketing with Lego UK Ltd. I live in Wrexham, North Wales with my young family and I count playing guitar, filmmaking, photography, cricket and graphic design as my main interests.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is characterised by the following commitments I make to every learner I have the privilege of working with:

- I will place all learners firmly at the centre of the learning experience
- I will lead all learners towards understanding how they learn best and be mindful that academic success is underpinned by aspiration, healthy levels of self-belief, stress management, courage, organisational ability, resilience, creativity and motivation. And that's to name but a few!

- I understand that behind every set of examination results, irrespective of the scores, must stand a person who is equipped, personally, socially and culturally, to prosper in the 21st Century. The Study Skills coaching I offer can help resolve a wide range of common issues that can be barriers to effective learning.If you answer 'yes' to one or more of the following questions, study skills coaching could well be an investment that brings real value to your child and their future:

- Is your child frequently getting detentions for forgetting homework or being late?

- Would your child benefit from improved social skills?
- Does your child become anxious around examination periods?

Flexible, personalised programmes can commence at any point during the year.

The first session is essential for the success of the programme going forward. In this session, we evaluate current learning strengths and weaknesses in the individual student. In order to get a full picture of the student's learning priorities, we undertake the following activities to determine areas for improvement and the best conditions for success:

- reflections from the student on how they feel about their learning experience
- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection
- analysis of recent written reports which contain teacher comments and grades recording attainment, effort, attitude to learning, punctuality, etc. School reports can vary in format so it may be that not all this detail is available
- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child
- completion of a personalised learning contract whereby the child/student, parent/teacher and coach agree on the required conditions needed for the child/student to be successful during the programme.

Personal Description:
Thank you for reading my profile. I am a member of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since the year 2000.
I have 20 years experience of working as a clinician most of it was in the Republic Of Ireland . I have also 10 years experience of a research officer in the first clinical audit team in Ireland. I am currently retired . I love teaching and have an immense passion for it .

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a tutor for 2 years at the National University of Galway (NUIG) inObstetrics and Gynaecology in my career as a doctor for 20 years I provided professional training to undergraduate students, nurses , midwives . I have also paved the way for my 4 children in their education one of them is currently a Researcher in DC the other is an Architect in Dubai while my third is a film -making trainee in London. My youngest is currently midway through his GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

As a mother , I am able to relate to young people who need a little extra help and support I would like to understand student needs in advance to plan and set realistic goals for each session . I would prefer to give my lessons in the central library if this doesn't suit you and you like the lesson to be in another place you would have to pay the transport fees .

I try to evoke and capture a mood within my pictures, a feeling a unique moment, creating images that have impact. I love to work with people, and I like to be able to build up a close rapport with all the clients that I work with.

Teaching Experience:

I hold a Further and Adult Education teaching certificate, I taught on the Access to Photography, at Newcastle College. There I identified individual learning needs, facilitated learning through presentations, activities, instruction and demonstrations. I designed and developed training sessions, assessed student performance, and evaluated training and development for students of all ages.

I have continued to develop my teaching and training working with primary level children in Photography, web design, animation and multimedia. I also teach photography workshops to all levels and am currently teaching on a individual basis , one to one.

Tutoring Approach:

I really value being able to pass on the knowledge that I have gained and thoroughly enjoy the challenges of teaching and the pleasure and joy that someone has when they have understood that knowledge and are able to then put that into practice. Personal Description:
Hi my name is Sheena and I have over 5 years' experience working with children. I am currently a Primary School Teacher in Harrow and teach my class the whole curriculum therefore have a good understanding of the national curriculum. I am extremely passionate about Reading, Writing and Mathematics and believe this is the core to a child's education.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching and working with children because it gives me great satisfaction when children progress and achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching a year 4 class at a Primary school in Harrow. I am thoroughly enjoying the class and helping them achieve their potential is at the heart of what I do. I have also taught a year 5 class and a year 4 class in a primary school in Leicester.

I have completed tutoring before and helped a young boy reach his goal of getting into a private school. I have also helped other young learners to improve their reading strategies, maths concepts and boost their confidence. I have delivered tutoring sessions in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and 11+ exams. I can also help children to prepare for their SATS examinations and being a current primary teacher enables me to know the national curriculum well.
