Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

Personal Description:
I am a retired R&D Scientist, formerly with H.M. Government, where I was involved in a number of projects in the field of electronics and communications.
I am married to a teacher (who is qualified to B.A and PGSE, and is also a private tutor) and now successfully tutor maths and physics to GCSE and A-Level from home.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London where I obtained B.Sc (first class) and Ph.D. After getting my Ph.D. I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where, in addition to my research, I had a number of teaching duties, including lecturing to an M.Sc. course on digital processing.

I have been tutoring GCSE and A-level since 2006 and have achieved notable successes including A and A* grades.
I will be pleased to pass on names of referees to potential students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best results are obtained by kind, confidence-building one-to-one tuition so that lessons and homework can be tailored to the student's individual needs and speed.
I like to keep the lessons reasonably informal so that the student does not feel under undue pressure, but has time to acquire a deeper understanding of the subject. I reinforce the student's knowledge by working through examples, both from textbooks and from past papers.
I work very much as part of a team with my wife Sue, who tutors the younger students, while I concentrate on the GCSE and A level students. So while this listing is in my name, she will probably take over those in school year 4 to year 7. We do not tutor students below year 4.
Sorry, but we do not travel to students because we find it far more efficient for students to visit us at home, where we have all our reference material and teaching resources to hand.

Personal Description:
I am a Spanish native speaker from the south of Spain and have been living in the UK for eight years now. I studied for a degree in Translation and Interpretation and for a couple of postgraduate masters, one relating to education.
I have always been interested in learning languages and the culture of the countries where they are spoken. Therefore you will have the chance to learn about Spanish daily habits, gastronomy, hobbies and important events that happen around the year.
It is key for me to know why you want to learn the language and which Spanish speaking country you are visiting, as the contents and language of the lessons will be oriented to these requirements. Your learning style and preferences are important to me as well. Some learners prefer to base their lessons around conversations only and others are happy to have a few grammar based lessons, then conversation, then enjoying reading a book passage or a poem. My extensive library of resources will always have something that interests you.

Teaching Experience:

10 years teaching experience in the UK. This includes over 4 year secondary school work (first as a language assistant, then as a qualified MFL teacher).
Set up as self-employed in 2011 as a freelance adult educator and translator in the Spanish and French languages. During this time I have delivered adult education for local education authorities as well as private courses, primary school education and one-to-one tuition. As part of my Professional Development Plan I completed a Teacher Training Course at the Instituto Cervantes in Leeds, a key reference institution for Spanish teachers around the world.
Testimonials of happy customers are available upon request.

Tutoring Approach:

Fun but professional!
Learning programme is tailored to your needs and additional materials for independent learning can be provided after lessons. Doing a bit of work at home helps making progress.
You can choose to either follow a text book or allow me to cherry pick materials designed to help you achieve your course aims.
Flexible lesson times, you can have your lessons at a different time or day as we all have work and family commitments happening throughout the year. Just let me know well in advance please.
(Note: since you'll be charged a fee to obtain my tutoring details, the first lesson will be half price, it involves an initial meeting and teaching, totalling 1hr).
Note: the tariffs shown are for one-to-one tuition only. I can only travel 4-5 miles from my postcode.
If you live further afield, you can come to my local area or have your lessons via Skype.
Also, and as you may understand, I have to make a living and people have messed me up in the past, therefore cancellations made within 24 hours before the lesson will be charged at 10 GBP unfortunately.
Please note I do not teach GCSE nor young children as I specialise in adult education and A-level at present.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name's Ezra. I have just completed a Philosophy Masters at Oxford, where I also studied Maths and Philosophy as an undergraduate. I live in London and mainly tutor Maths and English. Having won a scholarship to Westminster School, where I attained 12 A*s at GCSE and 5 As at A-level, I know what it takes to achieve academic success.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working around my studies as a private tutor for 4 years now, accumulating around 200 hours of tutoring experience.

I have had experience across a wide range of ages, helping to prepare students across a range of subjects for entrance to secondary school, as well as tutoring Maths A-level.

I have also worked as a voluntary tutor for the Oxford-based charity Jacari, teaching Key Stage 2 and 3 Maths and English, developing a struggling student's numeracy and literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every student is different and a key part of being a good tutor is being able to work out how your student learns most effectively.

I think the most valuable aspect of tutoring is getting your student engaged and motivated - I try to achieve this by bringing my own enthusiasm and energy to the process, making learning as active as possible and covering topics in depth rather than simply spoon-feeding shortcuts.

Teaching is a two-way process and it's vital that there is a friendly and relaxed environment in which the tutee feels comfortable to ask questions and to highlight the methods that they find helpful as well as the areas they need most help with.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. I currently work in a successful 'outstanding' school, therefore, I have a very strong English department where I am able to gain resources and skills I can bring to my tutees.

I am passionate about inspiring confidence and belief, and love exploring my subject with others; opening their minds to alternative approaches and guiding the way. I use a lot of humour in my lessons and like to create a calm, relaxed and enjoyable environment and get to know my students as individuals. Having spent much time with a personal tutor at GCSE to overcome my fear of Mathematics as a teenager, I have a personal understanding of the empathy and patience required by a tutor, as well as a passion to enable my tutees to reach their goals and develop confidence in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating from Roehampton University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Theatre Studies, I went on to work as a Teaching Assistant in SEN working with students with a range of needs, but focused on teaching students with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, which then became my research focus for one of my assignments during my PGCE teacher training.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.

Personal Description:
I am a first year medical student at Glasgow university with experience in tutoring children and young adults. Due to the fact I have just finished my high school exams, achieving very good grades, the course content and exam structures are still fresh in my mind which is what makes me a good choice of tutor for anyone studying the new Curriculum for Excellence Scottish courses. I am a very friendly and approachable person and genuinely enjoy tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have au paired for the last two summers in Spain, giving daily language, maths and science tutoring lessons to children from the ages of four to sixteen. In addition to this last year I self taught my self two SQA advanced highers - Spanish and chemistry - and achieved the necessary grades to study medicine.

Currently I have four pupils that I am tutoring each week in a range of subjects from S2 maths and english to higher biology and chemistry. I am however always looking for more people to tutor and am willing to offer a group discount if your child is interested in sharing the lessons and time with a friend.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is the same method I use everyday when studying for my degree. I find that fully grasping concepts and ideas by discussing them and looking at relevant examples, instead of just monotonously writing down notes is the most successful way to learn which also prepares you well for exams and sets you up nicely for a higher level of study in the future. This is followed up by then applying this knowledge by practicing exam questions which helps build confidence in one's ability.

Personal Description:
Highly experienced tutor, currently completing my PhD in chemistry at Imperial College London.

With an enthusiastic approach to learning and a real passion for my subject I develop students into inquisitive, capable learners and consider mentoring students in a love of science to be an important goal.

I achieved the highest grade possible in all science and maths subjects during my school education and having completed my Masters in Chemistry at Oxford in 2011 I have also worked in various roles in industry and academia, allowing me to convey the real significance of science to the students who study with me.

A & A/S-Levels : 4As (2007)
GCSEs : 9A*s, 2As (2005)

Teaching Experience:

Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

I have over three years experience, teaching over 100 students from secondary up to undergraduate level. I am a professionally trained undergraduate tutor and laboratory demonstrator, recently awarded an Associate Fellowship of the HEA in recognition of my contribution to undergraduate learning and my continuing development as an educational practitioner.

As a result of my teaching programme at Imperial College, I was awarded a Student Academic Choice Award - chosen by the students - for excellence in chemistry tutoring and communication.

Alongside my direct tutoring experience I have also taken part in the assessment and development of teaching material in chemistry and in the interview process at Imperial College, allowing me to offer targeted advice for students who wish to excel. Having attended both Oxford and Imperial College I can offer highly relevant admissions advice for university entrance interviews at Oxbridge and London-based institutions.

Working with students from across the world, I have experience of tutoring students whose first language is not English and am familiar with dealing with any issues that arise from this.

Some reviews of my work:

"My teaching experience with Peter has been really positive, he really challenges me to achieve my best and I have particularly developed my critical thinking skills with him" (A-level student)

"Peter is really friendly and helpful, as an international student who has studied in several countries I can say his methods are very strong and he explains complicated topics very well" (A-level student)

"I struggled with several areas of my course before studying with Peter, but now things are so much easier! He can explain things in so many ways when I'm stuck, highly recommended" (GCSE student)

"Peter is one of the best tutors we have had and is always on time and prepared, he is obviously very knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches" (Parent of GCSE student)

"My daughter had lessons with Peter for several months and her confidence in the subject increased hugely over this time, I would strongly recommend his services, the improved exam results speak for themselves" (Parent of A-level student)

Tutoring Approach:

Having taught scientific subjects up to undergraduate level I have a keen understanding of the different learning styles of students and am able to adapt my teaching to suit the student.

Using various teaching methodologies to deepen understanding, wherever possible I like to employ additional techniques such as scientific software and interactive elements alongside theory in order to bring the subject to life.

Students who study with me are encouraged and supported in developing critical thinking skills, by analysing information more deeply, allowing them to become more efficient, resourceful learners in the future.

I have two main approaches for the students I teach:
For students struggling in a subject I aim to build up confidence in the area by ensuring lessons are relaxed and engaging rather than focused on specific topics. Once a student has become more comfortable in the subject, more targeted study can take place based on the syllabus.
For students who are competent in their subject but need additional support to excel, I take a more focused approach and work with the student on any weak points and advanced topics, supported by exam technique and practice questions.
In both cases I aim to broaden the knowledge of the student beyond specific subject guidelines, with the goal of developing a passion for their subject.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I LOVE teaching - any ability from GCSE, AS/A level, undergrad to adult learners. I don't stop learning myself and want to pass that love of learning onto the students that I help. I have industry experience working in various sectors. I use case studies to enhance learning. I have LOTS of patience and teach to the student's individual needs and learning style.

Teaching Experience:

What do you need? From some exam prep help, help to edit dissertations, GCSE coursework, to weekly lessons, I'm here to help! I have over 20 years experience teaching a range of subjects: English Literature and Language, Marketing & PR, Business Studies and Computer Skills. I am also a practising artist working with textiles and glass. I can work with you on a 1:1 basis or in a group setting. I currently work in a local college, university and adult education. I am qualified up to Masters level and with academic and teaching qualifications. I am DBS registered and have worked with students that are home educated or have anxiety. Let me know how I can help you!

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed, productive, calm, fun and usually with the help of chocolate for motivation!

Fully Qualified Teacher offering Private Tuition for Primary Education in Maths, English and 11 plus.

I have knowledge of the national curriculum and different learning styles. I will plan lessons according to your child`s needs, as I do not believe in the `one brush fits all` approach.
