As a student, little came easy for me.

I learned the hard way.

Now, with over 20 years of teaching experience in a variety of institutions - from Oxbridge entrance to comprehensives on 'Special Measures' - I am young enough to remember my struggles and old enough to know better.

I know how to bridge that gap for my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

This is my sixth year as a full-time tutor, but I was a secondary school teacher for 19 years before that.

I have experienced many types of academic performance from high-performing grammar schools to comprehensives on 'special measures'. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility within schools, particularly in the pastoral system such as Head of Year. I have been a grade-A examiner for AQA GCSE Geography.

During the last six years of 11 Plus entrance, including September 2014, 15 out of my 25 students have passed. I have also successfully helped one parent and child through the appeals procedure for grammar selection. Furthermore, a 12 Plus tutee in 2011 was the only girl to pass and get a place at South Wilts. Two out of three 12+ and 13+ tutees I have taught have passed their exams.

I have taught numerous syllabi: in the last six years I have tutored AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC at A level Geography. Indeed, I taught the whole of the A2 Edexcel Geogaphy syllabus online to one a tutee in Moscow: he has now gained a place at Aston University. I have mainly tutored the AQA and Edexcel syllabi for GCSE Maths. It would be fair to say that the overwhelming majority of my A level tutees experience significant gains and regularly obtain A or B grades.

At the moment (March 2015) I have 20 tutees in total: this includes 4 home-school tutees doing a variety of subjects such as GCSE Maths and Geography as well as Key Stage 3 Maths, English, History, Geography, Citizenship and RE; three GCSE English tutees; one Key Stage 3 Maths tutee; two Key Stage 3 English tutees; three 12 Plus tutees; five Key Stage 2 Maths tutees; two GCSE Maths tutee; one KS5 numeracy tutee, one A Level Geography tutee and, finally, three GCSE Geography tutees.

I would say on average, across the year, I would have between 15 and 20 tutees each week. Nearer exam time, this can creep up to 25.

Tutoring Approach:

One size does not fit all . . .

Tutoring and learning should be natural and intuitive so that tutees can 'fly' by themselves.

To make the most of tuition, a tutee must be 'on-board'. If it's their idea - even better. A tutee that is in-charge of their own learning makes an excellent pupil.

As a tutor, I decide what is right for the tutee - not an institution. Parents often want someone who is familiar with the education system but independent enough to give an honest assessment. My main concern is the welfare of the tutee - not just their academic progress - nor the reputation of some teacher or institution. If something is not right for a tutee, no matter how forceful a parent might be or how much money I might lose, I simply will not do it. Each year there are a handful of tutees I turn away because of this.

In the first session I will try to identify what it is the tutee needs, and you may wish to quiz me in more detail. I will need access to school reports and examples of the tutee's work. Through discussion with my tutee and parental input it should become clear the reason for the tutoring.

From this 'snag' list, I will design a bespoke program to meet the educational needs of the tutee. It is flexible and, unlike a classroom situation, I can respond immediately to the needs of the tutee.

Homework will always be set, depending upon the demands placed upon the tutee by the normal school week. The tutee will be far more involved with learning than in a normal school class where they can 'hide', so prospective tutees need to expect plenty of chat and discussion, reviewing work and giving feedback.

For learning to be 'on the wing', to be natural and instinctive, tutees need to work hard without feeling the burden. This can only happen through enjoyment and a lot of laughter. That's my part: helping tutees to work really hard without realising it.

If at any point I feel unable to help, I won't just prolong tuition, or if our work has met its aims then I will call a halt. The point of tuition is not to need me anymore, so they can 'fly' all by themselves.

I offer two types of 'remote' tuition options at the moment:

i/ ONLINE FACE-TO-FACE TUITION: face-to-face on Skype is very good in dealing with syllabus issues and reinforcing and filling in the holes the class teachers leave behind. Face-to-face tuition lends itself well to visual resources such as diagrams, maps and pictures. It is primarily discussion-based and the tutee needs to take notes as we go along. I regularly send tutees files to prepare them for the lesson and to discuss in the lesson. If a tutee comes to face-to-face tuition and expects to be spoon-fed or entertained, it just won't work. Extra work can be set to test their written understanding. Usually, it is enough to go through topics the student struggles with. Once they 'click' with the topic/issue, we move onto other areas. Payment for this type of tuition is a flat fee each week to cover lesson preparation and the lesson itself. The marking of substantial pieces of work outside of lesson time such as essays will incur a modest marking fee.

ii/ CORRESPONDENCE-STYLE WITH UNLIMITED EMAIL SUPPORT: work is set through powerpoints, pdf files and word documents for the student to do on their own in their own time. This should keep the tutee occupied for between 1-3 hours each week, unless more is required. It is then returned to me within the week. I mark it and provide feedback in the form of an audio file (up to 30 mins), talking them through the various issues. Any amounts of email conversations to help the student with this particular piece of work are allowed, after feedback has been given. This is very much an ongoing and open-ended commitment, once work has been set and feedback given, and the student is totally free to contact me with any issues. As a result, the payment structure is open-ended and depends on the amount of time used to prepare resources, mark and give audio feedback. This is added up at the end of each week, and the client is then billed. Follow-up emails and support are not timed but are considered as a 'free' part. Generally, this time will be from about 45-90 mins per week. I keep a track of the time minute to minute and endeavour to keep the time used as short as possible while setting about 1-3 hours of work. This is very much a trust system of working. I tailor the work individually to suit the student as opposed to an ordinary correspondence course that just covers syllabus content.

I teach students from the ages of 6 to 16 and pride myself on getting to know each student well and taking the time and effort to tailor each session to their learning needs.

I feel its important to motivate students and help increase their confidence. I specialise in preparing for the 11+ Medway and Kent test and am able to provide tutoring for Maths, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning for the 11+ . I have a a high success rate and am happy to provide references on request. My approach is relaxed (but with a focus on exam technique) and I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching children from ages 6 to GCSE level Maths Age 16. I also specialise in preparing children for the 11+ test in kent and medway, teaching subject verbal reasoning and non verbal reasoning.

Ben is a social person and loves to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact on his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work, he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years, his creative flare became more apparent when he took A-levels in Fine Art, Sculpture, and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009, he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr. Simon Standing. During this course, he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specializing in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture, and figurative representation and critically analyzes the standardized figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition, Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D-New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographers say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and won't be disappointed. In this digital age, many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. I also work in a apple shop in Guildford so can teach about apple products and how to use them both in conjunction with software like photoshop or one there own.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring photography from many years to all different ages and abilities from young kid's to University and Mature Learners, I started my teaching with teaching english in Thailand and working as a assistant youth worker and having to teach different subject and activities. I have furthered my experience with children running children Holiday camps over the school Holidays.

Hi, my name's Chris and I provide a guitar tuition service in and around Worcester. I offer both acoustic and electric guitar lessons for beginner and intermediate students of all ages. I teach a variety of styles and can tailor lessons to your own musical interests so that you're not only learning the music you love, but developing other essential skills in a relevant musical context.

Teaching Experience:

I have 12 years experience playing guitar and hold a joint-honours degree in music.

Tutoring Approach:

In addition to teaching you how to play the guitar, I can offer expertise in other areas of music. Having spent three years studying music at university, and being a writer myself, I can assist you with your own compositions, arrangements and songs. Likewise I can help with the sometimes precarious art of accompanying yourself as a singer! The focus of lessons is up to you, though equally if you're unsure of exactly what you'd like to learn I can offer plenty of options. As a patient and considerate individual my lessons tend to be relaxed but highly productive.

Guitar lessons can be arranged at times to suit. I'm generally available on weekday afternoons and evenings but feel free to contact me to check my current availability. I teach at my family home in the Barbourne area of central Worcester but I am also willing to travel within Worcester and to nearby surrounding areas of Worcestershire. For this service I charge an additional fee to cover the cost of transport and travel time, this is £5 within Worcester and £10 for Droitwich and Malvern.

I am a current student at the University of Bath and I am studying German and International Management. I tutor photographer to university students and work freelance as a portrait and product photographer. I studied maths, further maths, German and chemistry at A Level.

At GCSE I studied maths, statistics, German, chemistry, biology, physics, philosophy and ethics, English language, English literature, history and ICT. I gained 9 A* grades and 3 A grades in the summer of 2011.

Teaching Experience:

I tutored 6th grade maths (year 9) in Honduras and have taught German to casual learners. I teach photography at my university for the Photographic Society. During my GCSE years I tutored German and maths to fellow students and at university I tutored statistics for the management course.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that often it is simply a case of providing more individual attention that can really help a student. Through my previous tutoring experience I have found that one-on-ones where I walk the student through the way to solve a problem and find where they are having the most difficulty. Often it is a lack of confidence in their ability that is holding them back, and once a student gets past that they can find it a lot easier to understand new (and old) material!
