I have a 1st Class Hons degree in Biology from Imperial College London and a PGCE from Kings College London.
I have extensive assessment experience including as an examiner for OCR, giving me an excellent insight into what students actually get the marks for at GCSE and how to answer questions successfully.

I have wide experience in teaching Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 (ages 11-18) and have been consistently graded either Good or Outstanding in my lessons.

Additionally, I have tutored a number of primary students to raise confidence or prepare them for secondary school.

I am passionate about my subject and am keen to pass this on to my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to tutor according to individuals needs. I am happy to work through homework, coursework and projects and to help students revise, depending on their requirements for that session, although I will not simply give out the answers but will help them work them out.
I am flexible with my tutoring and am happy to do it weekly or more or less regularly depending on what is is desired, as I only accept a few students at a time, in order to fully cater for my students.

I aim to build a relationship with my students where they are happy to ask any and all questions and lead their own learning in this way. I find that the range of methods and resources I have acquired as a qualified teacher help me to tutor to the individual needs of the student. I am more than happy to adapt methods of learning to assist students learning.

I am usually able to bring a good range of resources but request that pupils provide their school work and books so I can make sure I am teaching the right things.

I have just returned from a year as a Graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School, New Zealand. Before this, I graduated from the University of Oxford in June 2010, having studied Music at Oriel College under the tutorship of Dr. David Maw. I was educated as a music scholar at Eton College, Windsor before moving to the Perse School, Cambridge for sixth form study. Aside of a huge passion and enthusiasm for music study and tuition, I am an avid sportsman having represented both my university and county youth level in cricket. I also played a number of sports for my college during my time at Oriel. Currently, I am studying for a Masters in Musicology at Durham University with a specialism in the orchestral music of Gerald Finzi. In addition, I am also the Senior Organ Scholar at St. John's College. I have recently accepted a teaching post at Brighton College to begin in September 2012.

Teaching Experience:

Having just returned from a year as a graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, I feel that I am in touch with both school teaching and more specifically, more private music tuition. During my year experience in New Zealand, I engaged very actively in the life of the music department. Teaching Experience:

I have over 21 years experience as a private tutor preparing children for the grammar school entrance exams (11+) and 11 years as a year 5 class teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carry out an initial assessment test which provides me with an accurate guide as to whether the child is a suitable candidate.

My aim is to familiarise my pupils with the different types of verbal reasoning questions they will encounter in the exam and teach them methods to tackle them most effectively.

As we approach the exam we concentrate on 'fine-tuning' i.e. concentrating specifically on any areas that need further attention and ensuring that the child is used to working at the required speed. Appropriate practice tests are done on a regular basis.

GRADE 1 OUTSTANDING - OFSTED
I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 39 years old, married with 2 children, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. I gained my degree in Economics and Finance in 1998 from Leicester University. I began teaching in 2002 so have many years of experience teaching Accounting.

I offer tutition at my home, either at the weekend, or weekday evenings. However, I am usually able to offer tuition during the school/college holidays.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at Manchester University in 2002. I only teach Accounting AS and A2 Level, and this is therefore my main specialism. I can also help students in need of tutoring on the Finance elements of the Business Studies A Level, or on Accouning/Finance elements of Business/Accounting/Finance degree courses.

I teach the AQA specification. However, I can also tutor students who are following the OCR specification.

Many tutors are not willing to advertise the results they have achieved with students. I recommend you read the section below on the results i have achieved with my A Level Accounting students.

Also, many tutors seem to offer tuition in a wide variety of subjects. Are they really specialists in so many different subjects? I am an Accounting specialist, and only offer tuition in Accounting or the Finance elements of a Business course. If you need a Maths tutor, then hire a Maths specialist. If you need an Accounting tutor, then hire me!

Tutoring Approach:

Many other tutors seem to describe their strategies/relationships etc, without mentioning anything concrete like exam results! Surely the one thing a prospective student wants to know about is exam results!?!? Read on.

I have an incredibly strong track record of results at A Level Accounting. Compare the results of my students against the national benchmarks below. Please compare the difference between my students, and the benchmarks. We are WAY ahead!


My A2 Accounting students in 2016:

Grade A*-B = 51%

Benchmark A2 Accounting 2016:

Grade A*-B = 35%



Each department within the college is graded according to the college's own internal validation procedure. I have been graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' for 10 years on the row, since I became head of the department!!!

The Accounting department was also graded as 1 'OUTSTANDING' in the last OFSTED report in Jan 2010. Key Findings from Ofsted:

"A high proportion of students achieve grades A and B. In A-Level Accounting more than two thirds of students gained a high grade (A-B). In AS Accounting, almost four times the national average achieved a high grade (A-B)."


I have been awarded grade 1 on the ALPS measure for value added on 3 seperate occasions in recent years. This means i add more value to my students than any other college in the country. Value added measures the difference between what the Government predicts a student should achieve at A Level based on their GCSE performance and what they actually achieve.

I have a first class BSc (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh in Developmental and Cell Biology, and I have worked teaching science and tutoring individuals since I was an undergraduate student. I have experience tutoring individuals aged 14 to 30 of all levels and abilities in both group and 1-to-1 settings, and I cover material ranging from National 3-5/GCSE level up to undergraduate senior honours. I am fully up-to-date on the SQA Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), and have experience tutoring CfE biology, human biology and mathematics at all levels, and chemistry and physics to National 5/GCSE.

In addition to these traditional tutoring services, I also run UKCAT tutoring over the summer months (June - August) for prospective UK medical and dental students. As of April 2017 I have tutored 23 students through the UKCAT and medical or dental admissions process, and of those 100% gained at least 1 interview for medicine or dentistry and 96% were able to secure an offer. Personal Description:
I am a second year university Student in Southampton, I study Journalism and achieved a first in the first year of university. I want to pass on knowledge I have learnt in a number of work places, including Reuters in Canary Warf. I specialise in Journalism, History, Politics and in particular English Language.

Teaching Experience:

Have taught for a brief time in Primary Schools, however the main part of my teaching is now peer to peer making it less intimidating for a student to ask questions they may have on a topic.

In my secondary school I was a mentor for 11-17 year olds providing help and support for any school related needs they may have had.

I find nothing more fulfilling that helping a fellow student and watching them learn and understand the problem they once had trouble with.

Tutoring Approach:

Students will be able to voice questions they may have, and not feel embarrassed as I am a student myself. There will be homework involved, and I will target the area of the subject that the student is struggling with.

The fact I am still a student is important as I can bridge the gap between teacher and student. The most common problem students come to me with is that they feel embarrassed to ask questions to their school teacher.

I do not try and recite words from a textbook, but ask the students to learn from my experiences and ultimately do the best they can do.

Personal Description:
I have two main passions: my passion for teaching and my keen interest in Classics. I am currently at the final stage of a joint PhD program in History of Ancient Philosophy between KU Leuven (University of Leuven) and the University of Milan. At both universities, I have had the opportunity to teach Latin Language and Ancient Philosophy. My history made me knowledgeable about Classical Languages and Civilization and an enthusiastic communicator of it to students of different ages.
I attended the 'Liceo Classico', which provides a specific high-school program that strongly focuses on Greek and Latin Languages, Literatures, and Culture, and, more generally, on Humanities. There, I studied the whole history of Greek and Latin literature and I learned to deal with Classical authors in original and to translate even difficult texts.
The desire to deepen into my knowledge of Classical languages and to become a teacher led me to further pursue Classical studies at university. I attended the University of Milan, which is one of the most important universities in Italy and has the biggest Department of Classics. There I developed a solid knowledge in Classical Languages, Literature, Philosophy, and Art. There, I read in original and translated a great amount of texts of the Classical tradition, and learned the methodology for philological research. I gained both my BA's and MA's degrees in Classics scoring 110/110 summa cum laude both times. For my MA thesis, I applied as a Visiting Scholar to the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA) where I could perform my research in an eminent Classics Department, taking, amongst others, Professor Martin Bloomer's class on Latin authors.

Teaching Experience:

Alongside my academic career, I continued to pursue my passion for teaching, tutoring high-school and middle-school students in Greek and Latin and in Italian Grammar. Those experiences strengthened my teaching skills and the satisfaction they gave me kept encouraging me in pursuing a teaching career. More specifically, I started to deal with students of different ages and to learn different methodologies of teaching, always in dialogue with older professional teachers. At KU Leuven, I had the chance to teach a seminar on the History of Philosophy for BA Students in the English program. This experience was very challenging and fruitful for deepening my teaching and linguistic skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is not only to provide tutees with knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages and the classical world, but also, and primarily, to support the development of a curious, open and critical mentality, through an actual experience of encounter with the great authors of our tradition. In tutoring, I take the presence of two elements to be essential: on the one hand, a rigorous teaching method, especially if the scope is to learn Latin or Greek grammar, offering a precise and articulate content to students; on the other hand, a constant interaction between the tutor and tutee, calling for the active participation of the tutee and facilitating dialogue and exchanges.
